Yamaha Rhino +6.5" XTR Suspension Kit

The Lone Star Racing XTR Suspension Kit for the Yamaha Rhino is 6.5" wider per side and extends the wheel base 2" forward and 2" rearward. The arms are made from 4130 chromoly for superior strength and feature quick caster adjustments on the front arms. The kit will use long travel shocks and will achieve 15.5" of wheel travel in the rear with 14.25" in the front.

• Comes with delron bushings and inner pivot tubes

homemade long travel

Sorry if this has already been asked, but has anyone made their own long travel a-arms? i have been looking at pictures and just dont see it as something hard to do. now granted, i havent designed suspensions before, but have design many automated assembly machines. So what do you think? also, anyone know how much the long travel moves out the shock position?  

honestly... i would rather thrash a kit with a warranty IMO  

They probably arent all that hard to build.......but you will have to build 4 jig's. And the arms are the cheap part of the LT kit  

its not just building the arms, that does suck though, but getting all of the geometry to work properly and finding a shock to work with it. i have had too many problems with a lesser kit, would buy quality next time  

Ya i really think it is easier said than done.  

LIke said above... welding up some arms is easy... its getting it right so that nothing binds and all works well.  

i'll talk it over with my inlaws the next time i am down. Call it ignorance or call it cocky, but i really think i can design it and then get the fabrication help to build it. I can do it all in 3D and the cad for the caster angles and travel or even run simulation in 3d and get it. not to mention being able to put a load on it in the model. I will read some more threads and do more research. anybody with constructive ideas and/or pictures, links , etc, please feel free to help a guy out.  

My brother is a mechanical engineer... He can work Auto Cad but even better he is an expert with Solid Works. He can cycle the suspension and test it out on the computer. He tells me that he can do it..... but we have not done it yet.  

yep solid works is the shit and if your crafty you can download it for free.  

I will bet that I could have my brother do the drawings for free.... then send them to my fabricator and have a LT Kit made for less than $500.00. If we were better welders we could do it for less than that. That doesnt include the shocks of course......  

And if it was a mid-travel kit that used the stock shock mounting location you would still need what? Axle extensions, tie rods is that about it? Seems like this would be the affordable MTS system people have been wanting!!!!  

me personally, i realize it might not end up being that cheap. however, i am will to price it out and see. i have a guy with killer prices on specific parts. I have come across many sources for varius items with my work experience. So i am not saying i am a pro and could do it better, but I am saying I can do it cheaper. If nothing else, i should be atleast 20% cheaper than buying a kit assuming you use a standard markup. so if not using tube construction, how thick are the suspension ares normally?  

shoot, somebody give me a hook up and i will start designing....(as soon as i measure my inlaws so i know all my mounting dimensions and sizes.  

I've looked into this from several difrent approaches. it seams the axles are the big expence. unless someone knows of a killer source, I havn't found them for les than $900. Where I work I am a fabricator and my Son is a machinest he runs manual and CNC machines. getting parts made isn't the issue it's coming up with a plan and working out the unforseen coupled with the cost of axles ,that makes just buying a kit seam like a pretty good option. sombody make some mid travel plans and change my mind.

The Reckless 40 V4.0 offers a stiffer, more durable, and lighter-weight design featuring CURV® composite harness material. The stiffness of the CURV® material significantly reduces movement of the bag, adding more stability for technical off-road riding. CURV® has a unique high-impact strength that will not fatigue or crack, even when riding on very hot days or in freezing temperatures. The new design of the harness is 0.5lb / 0.25kg lighter than our previous V3.0 harness.

Additional updates include multi-directional Molle on the beavertail and leg holsters, two settings for leg strap mounting, low-profile non-slip cam buckles, and optimized integration for the optional  Gnoblin  rear mounting accessory. The R40 is also now built with 100% recycled 1680D Ballistic nylon, eco-friendly PVC backing, and UV treatment.

The Reckless 40 includes three 100% waterproof roll-top dry bags that can be easily accessed throughout the day. The side dry bags have clear panels on the front, so you can tell which bag has what you need. They also have webbing handles at the bottom so that they can be pulled into the holster from the bottom.

The Stinger 8L tail bag includes stashable backpack straps in case you want to go for a day hike or run into town for errands. It also has four sewn-on connection straps, making it easily rigged as a standalone tail bag. To increase the capacity of your Reckless 40, you can replace the Stinger 8L Tail Bag with a Stinger 22L Tail Bag .

The Reckless 40's removable beavertail is a great spot to tuck a motorcycle jacket when it’s not in use or to store wet or dirty things - like a tent fly, towel, or campsite garbage. The beavertail is removable and can be rotated to run either parallel or perpendicular to the bike. On the top of the beavertail and front of the leg holsters, there is two-directional MOLLE panels so you can customize the harness with various MOLLE accessories.

The Reckless 40 includes one  Cleat Kit , which can be bolted to the bike's rear fender, providing a convenient lash point for the rear connection straps. We recommend adding the optional Gnoblin rear mounting accessory for rock-solid attachment and easy on-off functionality.

• On dual-exhaust bikes or bikes with especially high/exposed pipes, you will need a second heat shield, available for purchase in our website's Hardware & Parts section.
• Contact between soft luggage (no matter how soft) and your bike's plastics or painted surfaces will cause cosmetic wear to the bike over time because accumulated dirt is abrasive. If that is important, try applying a clear protective film (like  Allstar Performance Tape or  3M Polymask Protective Tape ) to your bike.
• Different bikes and installation approaches present different wear points to the Reckless 40 harness. After installation, go for a short test ride, then check for wear points. Adjust the harness position, file down sharp rack edges, or apply a sacrificial wear patch as needed. Continue to check for high-wear points over time, but remember that the harness is made to take a lot of abuse. Some visible wear is normal, and in no way does it affect the strength or waterproofness of the luggage.

Impressive engineering that actually works as intended. I’m very happy with the way it fits my 24 KTM EXC-F.

I got Mosko Reckless 40L，Woodsman enduro pant，GNOME TANK BAG,WILDCAT 8L BACKPACK and the SURVEYOR SOFT SHELL JACKET, I love them so much. This is the way I want to ride,I really enjoy it, feel so good!

I sold an earlier generation to a moto buddy and got these. He’s happy, and so am I. The new plastic base and aux pods seal the deal for me.

Gear is of great construction- and this is probably just me but damn there are a lot of straps and widgets. Personally I don't run the beaver tail for that reason, just slap a dry duffel beck there with two simple rok straps. Who knows I may warm up to it. But it is worth repeating: the build quality is excellent.

Mounted easily. Only loaded for test rides on my bike. Very stable mount with the nobbler. Appears very we'll crafted in materials, construction and design. To be tested in real time soon...

+6 Long travel axle length

I have a +6 long travel set up and need to know the common axle shaft length. I am not sure of the brand I bought it used. The front end keeps popping out and I am wondering if I have the right axles. I may need +6.5 axles. The shaft length I have is 22" just wondering if someone can tell me how long the shafts are for a +6 and +6.5. It acts like I need about another inch. I have not adjusted the camber/caster since I purchased the kit. I am going to run the adjustments in and see if I can get enough to make the axles work but would like to make it correct if possible. Thanks for your help.  

Our +6 front axles are 22-7/16  

THanks Jim. It seemed to work moving them in. I might have to give you a call if this doesn't work for some reason. Worked out today but the camber is off so I need to set it up and if they pop out then I will try yours.  

gorilla axels I was reading this post because i broke a driver side rear gorilla axel on my rhino. Researching on the internet it seems there are several different lengths of axels. I beleive I have a +6 kit on my rhino, bought the rhino used with the kit on it. I'm not sure who made the kit, the guy i bought it from said it may be a so cal fab kit, the axel length is 22 5/8". Is there someplace in Orange County where i might be able to get a new axel and other parts?

Mosko moto Reckless 80 v3 on Yamaha Tenere 700

We designed our product line-up for   Yamaha Tenere 700   with rack-less soft luggage in mind. Perun moto  Yamaha Tenere 700 Top luggage rack   provides smooth and perfectly positioned slots for upper straps,  Yamaha Tenere 700 Side carriers   offers support for the sides of the bags and   Yamaha Tenere 700 Tie-down brackets  are perfect as a lower tie-down point. 

This works great for several most popular rack-less systems.  Here are a few photos of Mosko moto Reckless 80  Revolver (V3.0)  on this setup.  Other systems are shown in the blog posts too, look it up. All posts are written in the same manner, so it should be easy to compare the fitment of different systems. 

One of the main features of   Perun moto Yamaha Tenere 700 Top luggage rack   and   Side carriers   combo is a low profile. 

In this case, bags are positioned as far forward as possible, without interfering with a rider, sitting or standing. This greatly contributes to mass centralization and improves the handling of the bike. 

"Legs" of the bags are position in setting 3 (steepest).

Also, set up like this and with the help of Side carriers , bags are not touching the silencer. Heat shield is there just in case. 

It is hard to take a decent photo, but Side carriers   are supporting the rear end of the bags. 

At the same time,   Tie-down brackets   provide perfectly placed tie-down points for lower straps. 

And   Top luggage rack   offers smooth slots, which are angled, so upper straps can be strapped properly. We used generic tie-down straps for upper points. 

One of the benefits of this setup is that it is (relatively) narrow. Much more narrow than the handlebars. 

These Mosko moto bags are bomb-proof. IMO, there is no better protection for the rear of the bike - bags act as a cushion pillow and absorb most hits without transferring it to the bike.

Used like this, without "beavertail assembly" (middle bag), there is approx. of 50 liters of storage plus 2 x 4 liters in Aux Pox pockets. And there are two very useful bottle holders at the front. 

Of course, middle bag can be added for even more capacity. Or extra fuel or water in   Giant loop Armadillo bag .

Very convenient feature is that haul loop can be attached to the side rails of the  Perun moto Top luggage rack  and it can be reached through the cut-out on the base of the bag. I use Kriega Haul loop - rear , but almost any haul loop will do.
