WrestleMania 39 is set to go down this weekend out in Hollywood, but next year it’s going to be closer to home for folks in Pennsylvania.

Well folks, WrestleMania 40 is set to take place in Philadelphia April 6-8, 2024. And, as we begin the countdown to that, Mountain Dew and the WWE are already thinking ahead. In fact, there’s already a sweepstakes out there, thanks to Mountain Dew and the WWE, that has a grand prize of a trip to WrestleMania 40 for the winner and three guests.

Do the Dew, Do the Work. It's not too early to start planning for the next #WrestleMania ! Grab a 20oz  @MountainDew  & enter for your chance to win a trip to WrestleMania40. https://t.co/Do6SMiZ7KA NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. US RESIDENTS 18+. ENDS 5/20/23 RULES: https://t.co/znEltaSwnc pic.twitter.com/nWPiLRA0wb — Cody Rhodes (@CodyRhodes) March 26, 2023

According to Mountain Dew’s site, the package includes four tickets to the event, around-trip coach airfare and two nights with up to two hotel rooms each night. You will be responsible for the rest — such as feeding yourself and ground transportation once you get there — but all said, it’s a pretty sweet deal for any wrestling fan or just someone who wants to check out the spectacle.

The site says fans can enter once per day with the drawing slated for May 22, 2023.

The grand prize isn’t all that folks can get by entering to win though. According to the site, there will be instant winners, too. Some of those prizes will includes:

  • 3,500 $10 WWEShop.com e-Gift cards
  • 1,000 $25 WWEShop.com e-Gift cards
  • 360 $50 WWEShop.com e-Gift cards
  • 113 $75 WWEShop.com e-Gift cards

So, if you don’t have tickets for this weekend’s event, you can always sign up for Peacock here for a pretty nifty price and check out the action on the tube . And, while you are at it, you can drop a couple of entries into the contest and maybe you’ll be able to catch WrestleMania 40 in person in Philly.

To enter, visit Mountain Dew’s contest page, here.

Finally … WrestleMania has come back to Philadelphia.

The biggest event in sports entertainment touches down in Philadelphia for the first time in 25 years when WrestleMania 40 brings two nights of high-flying, in-ring action to Lincoln Financial Field.

It all goes down April 6 and 7, 2024 — and tickets are on sale now.

The superstars of WWE are ready for their WrestleMania moment in the City of Brotherly Love. Are you?

What to Expect

The Main Event

WrestleMania is the biggest event on the sports entertainment calendar each year. WWE fans and superstars have these dates circled on their calendars months in advance — and for good reason.

The lights seem to shine a little brighter at WrestleMania as WWE superstars perform in front of massive crowds filled with fans from around the globe. The stadium shows attract more than 100,000 fans from every state in the U.S. and more than 60 countries over two nights of action. This year, the WWE Universe descends on Lincoln Financial Field on April 6 and 7, 2024.

In recent years, WrestleMania has transcended the WWE Universe and sports entertainment fandom, becoming a pop culture phenomenon in its own right.

The event regularly sees Hollywood entertainers, major recording artists and some of the world’s biggest sports personalities gather for two nights of can’t-miss moments inside the ring and out.

With WrestleMania returning to Philadelphia for the first time in 25 years, you can count on a number of instant-classic matches and plenty of did-that-really-just-happen moments.

More Events During WrestleMania Week

WrestleMania Week also sees a number of other live WWE events at venues throughout the host city.

This year, the Pennsylvania Convention Center and the Wells Fargo Center welcome the WWE Universe for the following happenings:

Wrestling fans, legends and legends-in-the-making meet for this interactive experience at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The schedule includes main stage roundtable discussions and meet-and-greets with the WWE Superstars, a WWE 2K24 gaming tournament, exhibits commemorating 40 years of WrestleMania history and more ( April 4 to April 8, 2024 ).

Friday Night SmackDown /2024 WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

See your current favorites compete ahead of the main event and cheer on some wrestling icons as they claim their place in WWE history at the Wells Fargo Center ( April 5, 2024 ).

Watch future WrestleMania champions compete at the Wells Fargo Center. When they make it to the “Grandest Stage of Them All,” you’ll be able to say, “I remember when …” ( April 6, 2024 ).

Monday Night Raw

Return to the Wells Fargo Center to wrap up a whirlwind week and witness WrestleMania winners and losers meet in the ring for the first time since the “Show of All Shows” ( April 8, 2024 ).

WrestleMania descends on Philadelphia: Five days of title fights, star showdowns, and fan festivities

It’s not just a WWE Championship at the Linc. It’s three WWE events at the Wells Fargo Center and the WWE World at the Convention Center.

Roman Reigns wrestles Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title Match during WrestleMania 39 at SoFi Stadium on April 2, 2023. The two will face off again in Philly.

For the first time in 25 years, Philadelphia is about to become the epicenter of wrestling’s most important event in the country: WrestleMania .

World Wrestling Entertainment tours the country each year, pitting professional wrestling’s biggest names against each other, culminating in a final showdown in one lucky city. Philadelphia is about to enter the ring for WrestleMania 40, but there’s more to it than world title championship events. There are also fan-awaited marquee matchups, rivalry showdowns, and hall of fame inductions. Plus a weeklong WWE World expo at the Convention Center.

Don’t be alarmed to see pedestrians dressed as Hulk Hogan, John Cena, or Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson strolling down Market Street. And for local businesses, there may be a slice of the pie for you. The event is a significant economic boon, reportedly generating over $200 million for host cities.

WWE’s annual event is professional wrestling’s Super Bowl, drawing in more than 50,000 fans from across the globe each night for the championships alone, with last year’s WrestleMania attracting more than 120,000 attendees to SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. With multiple events and a weeklong Comic Con-like convention, there will be so much to do and see that it can be hard to keep track of.

Here’s everything you need to know about WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia.

WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia

April 6 and April 7 at Lincoln Financial Field

This is the main stage for the four championship matches to see who claims the WWE world titles.

Universal Championship: Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes

World Heavyweight Championship: Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre

Women’s World Championship: Rhea Ripley vs. Becky Lynch

WWE Women’s Championship: Iyo Sky vs. Bayley

But as is wrestling tradition, there are rumored bouts, like Randy Orton vs. Logan Paul and AJ Styles vs. LA Knight.

Buy tickets online at ticketmaster.com . Tickets are available for Saturday, April 6, and Sunday, April 7, plus a two-day ticket option for both. Current prices start at $200 for one-day and $975 for two-day tickets.

If you’re looking to max out WrestleMania Week in Philadelphia, exclusive packages are available starting at $1,250 via onlocationexp.com .

WWE World Fan Expo

April 4 through April 8 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center

The fan expo includes roundtable discussions with legends, live podcast recordings, and exhibitions filled with memorabilia from the last 40 years.

Highlights include:

WrestleMania Superstore

Autograph Row with WWE superstars and legends

Memorabilia museum, superstar sets, and photo opportunities

WWE 2K24 gaming tournament

Buy tickets online at fanaticsevents.com . A one-day ticket is $60 for fans 13 and older, $25 for ages 2-12; in the evening, prices drop to $30 for fans 13 and under and $10 for ages 2-12. A five-day ticket gets you into the expo every day starting at $240. Children under 2 get in for free.

WWE Smackdown, NXT, and RAW in Philadelphia

April 5, April 6, and April 8 at Wells Fargo Center

These three wrestling exhibitions are WWE’s weekly televised showcases with Friday Night Smackdown, Saturday’s NXT, and Monday Night RAW, where WWE’s story lines and feuds hash out in the ring. Some of the same s uperstars contending for WWE World Champion titles will be fighting in these showcases, so if you can’t make the big match, these will give you your fill.

If you want to catch the 2024 WWE Hall of Fame induction, you’ll need a ticket to Friday Night Smackdown.

Smackdown, NXT, and RAW all have different tickets to attend with varying prices (at the time of publishing).

Smackdown : Buy tickets online at ticketmaster.com . Starting at $99.

RAW : Buy tickets online at ticketmaster.com . Starting at $90.

NXT : Buy tickets online at ticketmaster.com . Starting at $20.

The biggest show on the wrestling calendar returns for the 40th time. WrestleMania , an event that debuted all the way back in 1985 and has taken place live every single year since for 40 years in a row. Quite the achievement, and even a pandemic hitting weeks before the show couldn't even break that streak in 2020. The tenth-anniversary WrestleManias tend to be some of the biggest, and WWE will want WrestleMania 40 to live up to that hype. Below is your definitive guide to the two-night show, from every match announced to how you can watch along live once the weekend is finally upon us. It'll be here sooner than you think.

All betting odds listed below come from Betonline.ag

Even though its date has shifted slightly over the years, the general time of year at which WrestleMania takes place has always remained the same. Right there at the end of March/beginning of April. Booking up the first full weekend of April this year, the two-night WrestleMania will begin on April 6 and conclude 24 hours later on April 7, the main card starting at 7 pm EST on each night. The festivities that go with it will continue before and after, of course, including the Hall of Fame ceremony and the Raw After WrestleMania.

CM Punk Says He'll Miss WrestleMania With Torn Triceps

CM Punk opened Monday Night Raw and noted that his torn triceps injury will keep him off of the WrestleMania 40 card.

No longer a part of the PPV structure it once relied on, WWE pivoted to its Network years ago, airing all of its major shows on its own platform instead. That remains the case in most parts of the world and will be where you can watch WrestleMania 40 live, or on-demand once it's over. In the US, WWE programming resides on Peacock, so that's the service you'll need if you want to watch WrestleMania 40 live or on-demand after the fact.

Most of the time, unless it's coming to your hometown, where a WWE PLE is going down doesn't really matter. WrestleMania is the exception to that. Which city gets to host WrestleMania is a big deal each year, and Philadelphia has been picked to showcase WrestleMania 40. Taking place at the Eagles' Lincoln Field, if the show is a sell-out, we could see as many as 70,000 fans packed into the stadium each night.

Betting Odds: Roman Reigns And The Rock -500, Cody Rhodes And Seth Rollins +300

24 hours before Reigns and Rhodes have their rematch, the two will team with The Rock and Seth Rollins to compete in a tag match that will likely main event night one of WrestleMania 40. You wait months for a Tribal Chief match and then two come along at once, just like buses. Typical.

If Rhodes and Rollins win this, The Bloodline will be banned from ringside in the Undisputed Title match on night two. That might make it seem as if that's the direction WWE is going, but I'm not so sure. My guess is Reigns and Rock win this one, stacking the odds against The American Nightmare for his match the following night.

Betting Odds: Rhea Ripley -400, Becky Lynch +250

With the women's Rumble winner opting for Iyo Sky, Rhea Ripley needed a WrestleMania challenger. WWE has decided the best way to determine that is via an Elimination Chamber match, and emerging victorious Down Under was Becky Lynch.

There were a couple of breakout performances in that Chamber courtesy of Liv Morgan and, most notably, Tiffany Stratton. Had either of them won, I'd pick them to win this match. However, since it'll be Lynch facing Ripley, I'm predicting the champ to retain and begin year two of her title reign.

Betting Odds: Gunther -500, Sami Zayn +300

Gunther has already eclipsed the longest Intercontinental Title reign in WWE history behind his, and the next Superstar with the chance to put a stop to that run will be Sami Zayn. Going through five others in a gauntlet match to earn this opportunity, Zayn will try to avenge a prior loss to Gunther, the one time the two have faced off before.

There were people potentially lined up for this match that would have made me believe it could be where Gunther meets his demise. No offense to Zayn, but I don't think he's going to be the one. Gunther will go through him at WrestleMania and march on with his title reign intact.

Betting Odds: Jey Uso -300, Jimmy Uso +200

It's really happening. With Reigns and Rock handling outside threats to The Bloodline, Jimmy Uso's focus will be on his very own brother. A new addition to a historic collection of matches that have pitted siblings against one another, this one might have more bad blood fueling it than any that have come before.

I'm comfortable in my belief that this will be the best brother vs. brother match we've seen in WWE since Bret vs. Owen. As for a winner, it has to be Jey, and perhaps losing to his brother will be enough to make Jimmy see the light and leave The Bloodline to revive The Usos.

There's usually something online in a crazy ladder match at WrestleMania, and this year's offering promises to be twice as wild as most other years. That's because there are twice as many competitors competing for two sets of titles as six teams compete for both sets of WWE Tag Team Championships.

The wording in the build to this one makes it sound like the match won't end until all four titles have been captured. That makes me think the titles will be split, and my picks to win this match are Awesome Truth for Raw, and A-Town Down Under laying claim to the SmackDown championships.

Betting Odds: Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill, And Naomi -2,000, Damage CTRL +700

Jade Cargill is finally ready to wrestle. Since signing for WWE in 2023, the former AEW star hasn't only competed in one match for WWE - the women's Royal Rumble. Cargill will compete in her second match at WrestleMania, teaming with Bianca Belair and Naomi to take on the Damage CTRL members not tied up in a title match.

This match might be the easiest one to call across both nights. Barring some big twist where someone costs Team Cargill the match and Cargill reacts by beating them down after the bell, this one will be an easy win for Belair and co. and a chance for WWE to show how much Cargill has improved since they signed her.

Betting Odds: Dominik Mysterio And Santos Escobar -250, Rey Mysterio And Dragon Lee +170

Judgment Day are well represented across WrestleMania weekend, their four members split between three matches. In this one, Dominik Mysterio finds himself clashing with his own dad on The Grandest Stage Of Them All again, this time with two others involved in tag team action.

It's tricky to find spots to slip in heel wins without ruining the WrestleMania atmosphere, but I think this will be one of those spots. A win for Dominik and Escobar that not only elevates them, but gets a heel win in the books at WrestleMania without causing too much fuss.

Betting Odds: Cody Rhodes -700, Roman Reigns +400

Just when you thought this match wasn't going to happen, apparently it actually is going to happen, and we may never know if that was due to fan reaction or if this was the plan all along. Cody Rhodes will face Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania for the second year in a row, The Tribal Chief's Undisputed WWE Title on the line.

If this match goes ahead as planned, Rhodes has to win. WWE can't have him lose again and convince everyone it'll be fine, he can try again next year. Barring a change to who will be in this match, Rhodes absolutely must win it as it stands.

Betting Odds: Bayley -1250, Iyo Sky +550

If only Iyo Sky had been able to keep her disdain for Bayley under wraps, the former Damage CTRL leader would have won the Royal Rumble and gone on to face Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania. Instead, Bayley was wound up to the point that she turned on the rest of the group and cashed in her WrestleMania opportunity on Sky.

Bayley deserves a big, bright spotlight for the work she has been doing in WWE over the last few years. No doubt this match will be fantastic, but it feels like the culmination of something. Hopefully it ends with Bayley finishing her own story and dethroning Sky as Women's Champion.

Betting Odds: Drew McIntyre -300, Seth Rollins +200

This match has likely changed a lot behind the scenes thanks to various injuries and plan changes. Drew McIntyre can thank his lucky stars for that. A dominant display from the Scot at Elimination Chamber, and one more chance to finally become World Champion again.

This absolutely has to be where Rollins loses the title. Not only because if McIntyre loses one more title match I think he might snap, but the current champ has admitted he needs to get his back fixed. Lose the title and take some much-needed time off, for goodness sake.

Betting Odds: Logan Paul -500, Randy Orton +350, Kevin Owens +900

Logan Paul gets under people's skin. That's kind of what he does. Well, he may have bitten off more than he can chew getting under the skin of Randy Orton and Kevin Owens at the same time. Now both of them have the chance to take Paul's US Title from him at WrestleMania.

Unfortunately, I don't think that's how it will go down. This match will be a spectacle, potentially the match of the weekend, but at the end of it, it'll be Paul capitalizing on a move the other has done to pick up the win. An RKO on Owens and Paul dropping The Viper right after so he can get the cover.

Betting Odds: LA Knight -1,000, AJ Styles +500

Two personalities as big as these trying to exist on the same show. It was never going to work, and not only have they been warring ever since realizing that, but LA Knight and AJ Styles have been trying to outdo each other when it comes to effort. Styles flew to Australia just to cost Knight a win, and Knight repaid the favor by attacking Styles in his own home.

The winner of this one may well dictate what WWE thinks of Knight now fan support for him is died down a little. I think there's still enough love there for Knight to pick up what would be a huge win here.

Betting Odds: Bobby Lashley And The Street Profits -200, The Final Testament +150

Two newer groups in WWE, and it's great to see them on the WrestleMania card, especially when you consider the name power in both teams' individual members. Competing in a street fight gives them the chance to do something special an hopefully everyone in the match and seize the opportunity to make a match not many will have singled out ahead of this weekend one to remember.

As for who wins, like the Dominik match on night one, this could be a chance for WWE to chalk up another win for the heels. Karrion Kross and AOP seriously need a win that will get them some momentum, and where better to pick up that win than WrestleMania?

Read the news of the day in less than 10 minutes — not that we’re counting.

It’s been almost three decades since WrestleMania came to the home of the Tastykake and Lil Uzi Vert.

Whether you’re a lifelong devotee pining for the golden years of ECW or a lapsed follower getting up to speed on the Bloodline family drama, Philly will be the city for all wrestling fans to live out their WrestleMania dreams come April 2024, when the WWE is in town for the big premium live event.

Tickets for WrestleMania 40 at Lincoln Financial Field are officially on sale Aug. 18.

With eight months before the big show, it doesn’t hurt to make a game plan of places to see and where to be seen before and after the matches at the Linc.

Here’s a cheat sheet to keep handy ahead of the main event.

Where to eat, drink, and watch wrestling

Venues with plans lined up well in advance include the 2300 Arena (aka the ECW Arena), which will host Battleground Championship Wrestling’s “ A Tribute to the Extreme 2 ” show on Friday, Apr. 5, 2024.

This tribute event is the first independent show announced for Wrestlemania 40 weekend, but it certainly won’t be the last. Danny Cage, head coach and owner of the Apple TV+-famous Monster Factory Pro Wrestling training facility in Paulsboro, NJ, told Billy Penn of his plans to host “conventions, podcasts, press’ ‘ along with running shows, open workouts, tryouts and tours. “We doing that thing!” Cage exclaimed, with typical excitement.

Of course, you can also just decide to watch Night 1 or Night 2 of Wrestlemania 40 in a spot where you’ll feel right at home with others thrilling to the WWE Superstars themselves taking bump after bump on the mat.

One of them is Lorraine Bar in Philly’s Francisville neighborhood, which is known for airing content (Stardom, New Japan, AEW Dynamite, DDT, or Tokyo Joshi Pro) on its TV screens every Wednesday.

Lorraine operator and “lifelong pro-wrestling fan” Jimmy Lardani, who was born and raised in the city, told Billy Penn he unfortunately doesn’t air WWE programming any longer “since the WWE Network folded into Peacock.” However, Lardani hopes this changes next year for not only WrestleMania, but also Royal Rumble in January.

Lorraine will also host a Pro Wrestling Quizzo on Wednesday, Apr. 3, “with prizes fished from the dark depths of the WWE Shop clearance rack,” the bar’s Ring Rust Radio podcast confidantes plan to have a Saturday “Pre-Mania party.”

“More stuff to announce when we get closer,” said Lardani, who can’t wait for the “giant gathering of our very weird, sometimes super niche, fanbase all together in the best city in the USA.”

Information on locations of independent wrestling shows are to be determined, but in the meantime, here’s a list of other local bars, pubs, breweries and restaurants where you might kick back and chat with fellow wrestling fans (and perhaps wrestlers in between shows!) during ‘Mania week:

  • Lorraine Bar (1502 Brown St., Francisville)
  • Xfinity Live! (1100 Pattison Ave., Sports Complex)
  • Broad Street Bullies Pub (100 Pattison Ave., Sports Complex)
  • Chickie’s & Pete’s (1526 Packer Ave., Sports Complex)
  • Lucha Cartel (207 Chestnut St., Old City)
  • Reading Terminal (51 N. 12th St., Center City)
  • Human Robot (1710 N. 5th St., Kensington)
  • Craft Hall (901 N Delaware Ave., Northern Liberties)
  • Bar-Ly (101 N. 11th St., Chinatown)
  • Garage (1231 E. Passyunk Ave., Italian Market/100 E. Girard Ave., Fishtown)
  • McGillin’s Olde Ale House (1310 Drury St., Gayborhood)
  • Cavanaugh’s (1921 Sansom St., Rittenhouse)

Tourist-y spots to visit with fellow fans

Philly first hosted Wrestlemania back in 1999 at the Wells Fargo Center, and while some things have changed, many of the same Instagrammable locations — Rocky steps and statue, Liberty Bell, South Street — are still here and popular for meetups and sightseeing.

Lo, founder and host of the female-founded Wrestling Winedown podcast, said monuments such as the Liberty Bell, Rocky steps and Independence Hall and the 2300 Arena, which she dubbed as “iconic,” are also on her must-visit list.

“I also plan to keep an eye out to see if there’s any wrestling-related stores with some treasures to take back to the West Coast,” Lo added.

For anyone looking to venture off the tourist-centric path, Cage suggested checking out the Zagar Mosaic Warehouse (1006 Watkins St.) for a few special reasons.

“It’s unbelievable art [from] the father of Jeremiah Zagar. Jeremiah is the director of “Hustle” & producer of our show, “Monster Factory” on Apple TV,” he noted. Cage also recommended literally touching grass with some disc golf action at various Sedgley Park and other spots in the area.

But just in case youse are waiting to dive into some of Philly’s most popular attractions…

  • Boat House Row (1 Boathouse Row)
  • Italian Market (919 S. 9th St.)
  • Philadelphia Museum of Art (2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway)
  • National Constitution Center (525 Arch St.)
  • African American Museum (701 Arch St.)
  • The Mutter Museum (19 S. 22nd St.)
  • Eastern State Penitentiary (2027 Fairmount Ave.)
  • The Franklin Fountain (116 Market St.)
  • Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens (1020 South St.)
  • Betsy Ross House (239 Arch St.)
  • Chinatown, Philadelphia (Arch to Vine Sts.; 11th St. to 8th St.)

Do the cheesesteak thing

And finally… cheesesteaks . Really, they’re better here than anywhere else that tries to copy cat.

For Brooklyn teacher Victor Perry, who is set to have his second Wrestlemania experience next year, eating a cheesesteak is priority No. 1. “I’ve been to Philly before when I was younger but didn’t get a chance to try,” Perry said, “so I must make up for that. I also would like to visit the Rocky steps!”

Lo, of Wrestling Winedown is “looking forward to checking out the food and drink options in Philly,” including wine — and cheesesteaks with it!

Everyone has a favorite spot, but here are some popular stomping grounds:

  • Pat’s (1237 E. Passyunk Ave.)
  • Geno’s (1219 S. 9th St.)
  • Ishkabibble’s (337 South St.)
  • Sonny’s Famous Steaks (228 Market St.)
  • Dalessandro’s Steaks and Hoagies (600 Wendover St. and Henry Ave.)
  • Tony & Nick’s (39 E. Oregon Ave.)
  • Max’s Steaks (3653 Germantown Ave.)

The Rock ends Night 1 with a People's Elbow on Cody Rhodes

The main event of Night 1 of WrestleMania delivered on the spectacle.

The Rock's involvement in his first match since 2016, and his insanely elaborate entrance, certainly brought a big-match feel to the final bout of the opening night.

And incorporating the company's two biggest stars, Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes, only raised the stakes.

But it still felt cluttered.

The face-off between Rhodes and The Rock, whose rivalry incorporated the Rhodes family and included bloody confrontations on Monday Night Raw, didn't have quite the definitive resolution it deserved.

The night's ending had a similar feel to the main event of WrestleMania 2000, which was another ensemble performance that lacked a singular focus.

Rhodes and The Rock in a singles match would have probably been better, but given the circumstances, the foursome put on a good show. Rollins and Rock waded into the crowd, and Reigns and Rhodes fought up and down the stage. Later, Rhodes and The Rock left the ring again and were soon joined by Rollins and Reigns.

And while the sequences toward the end between the four stars were exciting and entertaining, it still felt like a bit scattered.

It did, however, deliver on the most important outcome: neither Reigns, nor Rhodes, who meet again in Sunday's main event, got seriously injured.

Night 2 beckons.

WrestleMania can't top Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran is still the heavyweight champion of Lincoln Financial Field.

The WWE sold-out the Linc on Saturday night’s first night of WrestleMania but could not knock-off Sheeran for the stadium’s attendance record. WWE said 72,543 fans were in attendance on Saturday while Sheeran played in front of 77,900 in South Philly in June of 2023.

The Eagles averaged 69,878 fans at their home games last season as their playing field becomes seats for the concerts and wrestling events.

Sami Zayn unseats Gunther as intercontinental champ

Call him Sami Balboa.

Sami Zayn completed his Rocky-like underdog story with a victory over the vaunted WWE intercontinental champion, Gunther.

The very Philly storyline centered on Zayn overcoming his shortcomings to defeat the long-running champion with his family at ringside to cheer him on.

Suffice it to say, the crowd ate it up, much like Gunther ate a brain buster and two big boots in the corner before the decisive three count.

Gunther, who become the longest-reigning intercontinental champion in WWE history, is a terrific grappler who looks to be moving on to challenge for either of the top titles in the company.

And Zayn looks ready for a long run as champion.

Jade Cargill steals the show in six-woman tag-team match

Jade Cargill had her coming out party at WrestleMania 40.

Cargill, who teamed with Bianca Belair and Naomi in a terrific six-woman tag team match, helped lead her team over Damage CTRL, which includes Dakota Kai, Asuka, and Kairi Sane.

The beginning of the match was mostly Bianca Belair "kicking wholesale [butt]," as commenter Pat McAfee so eloquently put it, but the end of the match belonged to Cargill, who hit her "Jaded" face-plant finisher over Dakota Kai for the win.

Cargill, who made her WWE debut at the Royal Rumble after a run in AEW, is a rising star.

The Usos show no brotherly love in family affair

One of the most anticipated matches of the evening was Jey Uso facing his twin brother, Jimmy Uso. Family, and former tag team champions, turned enemies.

The storyline centered on Jey leaving The Bloodline stable, which is led by undisputed universal Champion Roman Reigns and will be featured in the night's main event, while Jimmy stayed under the thumb of the Tribal Chief.

Babyface Jey came out to an enormous pop, played to the ring by rapper Lil' Wayne, and Jimmy soaked in the Philly boos.

Unsurprisingly, the two are fantastic dancing partners.

Emotional weight of the contest came when Jimmy suckered Jey into a mid-match embrace, which devolved into splash and false finish.

Jey followed the turnabout with a spear and splash for the victory in an excellent contest that delivered on emotions.

Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson make surprise appearance at WrestleMania

Jason Kelce is retired but that didn’t stop him from returning to his old stomping grounds on Saturday night.

The Eagles’ icon joined former teammate Lane Johnson at WrestleMania 40 at Lincoln Financial Field as they helped Rey Mysterio, who was wearing Eagles-themed gear. Kelce and Johnson jumped out of the crowd wearing midnight-green luchador masks and roughed up Mysterio’s son, Dominik, who was his dad’s opponent in the tag-team match.

Kelce and Johnson are both wrestling fans, so it was not much of a surprise to see them mix it up when WrestleMania came to the stadium where they played together for 11 seasons. The professional wrestling company loves involving celebrities and professional athletes in their signature event. Bringing in Kelce was a no-brainer.

// Timestamp 04/06/24 8:41pm

Rey Mysterio and Andrade get some brotherly love in tag-team match

Rey Mysterio and Andrade faced Santos Escobar and Dominik Mysterio in the third encounter of the evening, but the middling match will most be remembered by the appearance of two Philadelphia Eagles: retired center Jason Kelce, and left tackle Lane Johnson.

Despite an ongoing feud between Rey, who was adorned in Eagles-themed tights, and hIs real-life son, Dominik, the match lacked any significant heat. And it didn't help that one of its key competitors, Dragon Lee, was a late scratch, replaced by Andrade after Lee was taken out in a backstage attack on Friday Night's Smackdown and replaced with Andrade.

Escobar and Andrade both had strong showings in their his first WrestleMania appearances, and Rey had a typically aerobatic effort, most notably with a double stacked cross-body off the top rope and onto the floor, but it won't win match of the night.

// Timestamp 04/06/24 8:33pm

Rey Mysterio wears Eagles-themed outfit at WrestleMania in Philly

Fly, Mysterio, Fly.

Rey Mysterio wore green tights with Eagles logos on the legs and a Birds-themed mask as the WWE Hall of Famer paid tribute to the party hosts with his ring wear at WrestleMania. Maybe Mysterio is on the season-ticket waiting list.

Finn Balor and Damian Priest lose their tag-team titles

The WWE team championships are no longer undisputed.

The Judgment Day, a team including Finn Balor and Damian Priest, walked into the the "Six-Pack Tag Team Ladder Match" as the undisputed champions, carrying both the Raw and Smackdown tag-team titles. And they were riding high, having beaten nearly every other team in their second reign as champions.

And they left the match without either set of belts that began the match suspended in the air over the ring.

Smackdown's Grayson Waller and Austin Theory — also known as A-Town Down Under — took the first set of titles, pulling down the blue-colored straps.

And the quirky tandem of The Miz and R-Truth — known as The Awesome Truth — took down the Raw titles, to a huge pop from the Philly crowd.

WrestleMania has a history of putting on exciting and memorable ladder matches, including the classic tag-ladder match in 2000 and the "Tables, Ladders, and Chairs" match the following year.

This match doesn't measure up to those contests, but it still had its moments, including JD McDonagh getting pushed off the ladder and sent flying through outside-the-ring tables when he tried to intervene on behalf of his Judgement Day allies.

And, of course, when tables were pulled out, fans chanted "E-C-W" — always a welcomed sound in Philadelphia.

// Timestamp 04/06/24 8:01pm

The New Day pays tribute to Rocky

The New Day paid tribute to Philadelphia’s most famous fictional boxer in the second match of WrestleMania.

Kofi Kingston’s ring wear was inspired by Rocky Balboa as he wore black trunks with the yellow trim like Sylvester Stallone did as a nod to Lincoln High. Big E, Kingston’s teammate in the “6-Pack Ladder Match” wore star-spangled trunks like Apollo Creed.

Rhea Ripley survives scare from Becky Lynch to retain title

In the opening match of Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, Rhea Ripley retained her WWE women's world championship title with a victory over Becky Lynch.

Ripley, who was played to the ring by Scranton's own Motionless in White singing a live version of her entrance song "Demon in Your Dreams," pinned Lynch after executing her finishing move, the Riptide Slam.

The two competitors popped the crowd with a few false finishes and an incredible offensive performance from the champion in an exceptionally athletic WrestleMania opener.

The two have an extensive history and long-standing rivalry, which dates back to their days competing in NXT.

And while Becky has had the upper hand in their last few encounters, Ripley got a decisive victory on the biggest stage.

Suplex Vintage Wrestling held matches in the middle of South Street

Samir McCloud, with a replica of the now-defunct WWE European championship belt over his shoulder, watched his first-ever live wrestling match in a ring set up in the middle of a closed-off block of South Street.

“I was jaw-dropped,” said McCloud, 32. “The sound of the ring. The sound of the crowd. I’m used to what I see on WWE on TV. But this is a different story.”

McCloud, an Army veteran from North Philly, said he’s been a wrestling fan since the late ‘90s, staying up late on Sunday nights during “The Attitude Era” to watch the pay per views with his brother. But he never got out to a live show.

McCloud was one of hundreds passing through the 600 block of South Street, which was closed off between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. for a wrestling block party on Saturday hours before the kickoff of Night 1 of WrestleMania 40 at Lincoln Financial Field in South Philly.

The block party, which was put on by the owners of the Suplex Vintage Wrestling store on South Street, included nine live matches, food, drink, and music.

McCloud was thrilled to see so many like-minded people — and even though he isn’t going to see live matches at WrestleMania this evening, the crowd made him feel part of the larger assembly of wrestling fans descending on his hometown.

“Tickets were a little expensive,” he said. “[But] it’s in my city so I might as well be out with the people.”

Fans came out in full wrestling regalia, and many dressed in cosplay of their favorite super stars.

For many fans, wrestling is all about the nostalgia

Death, taxes, and wrestling. At the lots of the Linc, fans of all ages described WWE as a constant on weekends and schoolyards where they practiced putting classmates in a friendly chokehold.

People like Teddy Smith, 37, traveled hours — in his case three from Washington, D.C.

Smith said he actually fell out of the loop until one of his best friends got him hyped for WrestleMania 40. For all the new characters introduced, Smith said the world of WWE remained familiar.

“It's always going to be there,” he said. “It's like riding a bicycle.”

Jeffrey Payuyo, 42, made the trip from North Jersey to meet up with four friends he met through WWE about 20 years ago, a time of developing internet wrestling forums and when communicating with his friends cost however many cents per text message.

Three of the friends made the trip from Canada. They carried two championship replica belts between them as they reminisced on WrestleManias past.

Matthew Pilquist's days of keeping up with wrestling are long gone, but his twin brother remains an avid fan, so he and some high school friends rallied to support his WrestleMania dreams in full costume. Pilquist wore a Diamond Dallas Page costume, complete with a shaggy blond wig.

Pilquist, 36, said one of his fondest childhood memories is performing the DDT — Page’s signature move— on his brother.

“He did it back on me and my heel went through the wall,” Pilquist remembered. “We had to explain to my parents why there was a hole in the wall.”

Effy’s Big Gay Brunch, an inclusive tradition at WrestleMania week, comes to Philly

Just a few miles north of Lincoln Financial Field, where WrestleMania will take place this weekend, was a colorful celebration of LGBTQ wrestlers at the sold-out EFFY’s Big Gay Brunch.

The event first began in 2020 as a way of elevating LGBTQ wrestlers while providing a safe space for them, and has since expanded to multiple events each year across the country. The brunch sold out before the talent lineup was announced, an indication that people are starting to pay attention, according Taylor Gibson, better known by the ring name Effy.

“We have some of the best talent in the world,” he told the crowd before the start of the event.

Among the talent on hand was Edith Surreal, a Philly native who the Inquirer profiled in 2021 .

“I love wrestling — to me it’s the ultimate art from,” Surreal said, noting that her performance Saturday was a blend of choreography as well as improvisation.

While Surreal said there is nothing like the live art of wrestling, she also said there is still work to be done.

Surreal, who is a trans woman, said she struggles to get bookings against other women, even though wrestling is more performance art than sport, mainly because of the recent politicization of the issue of trans athletes competing in women’s sports. Overall, she believes wrestling is poised to have another wave of popularity like it did in the late 1990s, but feels that the sport needs to gain new fans in order to do so.

“LGBTQ wrestling and women’s wrestling is a part of that,” she said. “Focusing on those two groups is the key to making wrestling a phenomenon again.”

The hundreds of people in the crowd who packed the hall of Penns Landing Caterers seemingly agreed, as they cheered boisterously for their favorite performers throughout the morning and early afternoon.

“That’s just the magic of professional wrestling,” Surreal said about the event.

Wrestling fans tailgate at the Linc: 'This is like a once in a lifetime kind of thing'

Can you smell what the Linc is cooking? It's nostalgia and a bit of frenetic energy shared by fans of various generations.

Wrestlemania 40 hit South Philadelphia with the force of a Manhandle Slam with parking lots open for tailgating at 8:30 a.m., though Saturday's marquee event isn't slated to begin until 7 p.m..

Grilled meat scents wafted through the parking lots as people set up television rigs so they could watch the earlier WWE NXT Stand & Deliver matches.

Ava Pomante, 12, showed off her Christmas present: a black t-shirt with Jade (as in Cargill) in large blue letters, the wrestler’s figure resembling X-men’s storm smack in the middle.

The second half of Pomante’s gift was a ticket to Wrestlemania 40.

“This is like a once in a lifetime kind of thing,” she said. “So I'm very excited because there are very good matches coming.”

Pomante said it was hard to explain what and who she loved most in the WWE world, but she admitted the fact her father Scott, 46, passed the love of the sport to her likely had something to do with it.

Scott Pomante said he and his cousin, who was part of the tailgate, used to watch wrestling in the late 1980s. They remember watching Wrestlemania 6 after dinner and can quickly lay out the beats of the night before Pomante's wife jokingly tells him that's too much detail for an interview.

He beamed when talking about how his two young daughters loved wrestling as much as he did and touted the progress women made in the arena.

“I was okay with them watching with me whatever because they had people they could root for and have role models,” he said. “And it wasn't as misogynistic and all that. Like, that's kind of gone away.”

Jade Cargill, formerly part of the All Elite Wrestling family, became part of the WWE Family last year and the Pomante girls looked forward to her match.

Ava Pomante was excited by Jade Cargill's Wrestlemania debut, which coincidentally happened to be her first Wrestlemania, though she's been to WWE Raw events and house shows.

Is Jason Kelce appearing at WrestleMania 40? It sure looks that way.

WrestleMania 40 is coming to Philadelphia, and Jason Kelce might be making a grand return to Lincoln Financial Field for the festivities.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com first reported that WWE was in talks with Kelce to make an appearance at wrestling’s biggest event, and all signs point to the recently retired Eagles center showing up at some point during the weekend.

The Kelce brothers are longtime wrestling fans , and Jason even celebrated in a luchador mask after Travis’ Super Bowl win with the Kansas City Chiefs in February.

“I got power-bombed through my living room floor as a kid,” Travis said before the Super Bowl. “We broke the wooden floor, and then we just slid the couch over it so our parents wouldn’t know. My mom was vacuuming like two weeks later and figured it out. Sure enough, we got in trouble for it.

“Growing up in the ‘90s, as a boy, I feel like you had no choice but to emulate wrestlers on the playground, at recess, and in the living room.”

Soon, at least one of the Kelce brothers could be living out that dream in real life.

Kelce has yet to officially confirm whether he will appear at the event. if he does make an appearance, the 36-year-old has “all the tools” to get in the ring and mix it up with the pros, according to Mike Mizanin, better known as WWE superstar The Miz.

“He could be very dangerous in a WWE ring — not only with just the athleticism and the part of the wrestling, which I think he can absolutely do,” The Miz told TMZ. “I watched him jump up at a Bills game from, like, down [in the crowd] and jump up into a window , and I was like, ‘Oh my God, this guy is 300 pounds, how did he do that? That’s incredible.’”

AJ Styles isn't from Philly, but he is a fan of several Eagles players

Wrestler AJ Styles isn’t from Philly, but he is a Georgia Bulldog fan, and that’s basically the same as being an Eagles fan nowadays.

With Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Nolan Smith, Nakobe Dean, Kelee Ringo, and D’Andre Swift all on last year’s Eagles team, there’s a lot for Bulldog fans to cheer for at Lincoln Financial Field.

“I love it,” Styles said of the connection. “I’ve got a hat with the Eagles, I guess it would be flames or wings on it, with the Georgia Bulldog face that I wear constantly.”

Davis, Carter, Smith, Ringo, and Dean helped lead Georgia to become one of the most dominant defenses in college football history, and to multiple national championships. Styles thinks they can bring that same luck to the Eagles.

“You’re getting quality players who get after it, and it’s going to pay off in the long run,” Styles said.

Fued between AJ Styles and LA Knight escalates ahead of WrestleMania

The WrestleMania feud between AJ Styles and LA Knight took yet another turn at WrestleMania media day on Friday.

Knight confronted Styles, who was in the next chair over, and the two started an all-out brawl, knocking over the media day setups.Styles left with a bloody nose, but not before registering an MMA-style takedown of Knight right there on the hotel floor.

Their storyline has been heating up in the leadup to WrestleMania. Knight donned a disguise at SmackDown on March 29 to get the up on Styles, who eliminated him from World Heavyweight Championship consideration at WrestleMania with a steel chair in the Elimination Chamber .

The two shared some heated words as they were separated by security, promising to see each other Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Rock’s Lehigh Valley roots

Before he was a beloved action hero or a WWE favorite, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was a college football player. And before that, he was some “punk kid” at Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pa.

Johnson will return to the ring as a headliner for WrestleMania at the Linc this Saturday. It’s his first scheduled match in 11 years, and he’ll be just 75 miles from where he met Jody Cwik, the football coach Johnson credits for setting his life on the trajectory toward success.

It all started with an apology, and a handshake, after a bathroom run-in.

But Cwik, a longtime coach and Bethlehem Area School District educator who died in 2006, didn’t just impact Johnson’s life. Matt Breen has the full story on mentorship and the power of second chances .

P.S. While you’re smelling what The Rock is cooking, be sure to check out The Inquirer’s recreation of wrestling’s big finishing moves, explained with stop-motion figurines — including Johnson’s signature elbow drop .

WrestleMania is back in Philly, and The Rock has gone full heel

It took 25 years, but WrestleMania has finally returned to Philadelphia.

WrestleMania 40 kicks off Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field, featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who is making his return to the ring for his first full wrestling match in 11 years.

Johnson’s return to wrestling began in January, after he joined the board of TKO, the parent company of WWE and UFC. But he’s not the same Rock wrestling fans got to know in the 1990s and early 2000s. This time, the “People’s Champion” has gone full heel, becoming the “Final Boss” in a rivalry with Cody Rhodes that included a bloody beatdown in the rain last month.

The 51-year-old movie star enjoyed chewing the Philly scenery Thursday night, when his explanation for being two hours late to WWE World included some trash talking aimed at angering Eagles fans.

“[The Rock] was watching YouTube, watching Jalen Hurts lose in the playoffs again,” Johnson said. “You boo because it’s the truth. Now, The Rock has shown up, you got greatness in front of you, you stand there, shut your mouth and enjoy the ride that The Rock is cooking.”

The two-night event kicks off Saturday night with The Rock teaming up with Roman Reigns in a battle against Rhodes and Seth “Freakin’” Rollins. There’s also bound to be a surprise guest or two, with a not-so-subtle hint on WWE Raw last month that fans could see the return of retired WWE stars “Stone Cold” Stone Austin and John Cena.

Sunday night’s marquee event will featuring Reigns once again defending the undisputed WWE universal title against Rhodes. Meanwhile, Rollins will take on Drew McIntyre, with the world heavyweight title on the line.

Recently retired Eagles center Jason Kelce also could make an appearance at WrestleMania this weekend alongside other celebrities, including Lil Wayne and Meek Mill.

Wrestlemania 40 night 2 results, grades, analysis: cody rhodes defeats roman reigns to win the undisputed wwe universal title, championships changed hands four times on sunday night, including in an all-time main event.

WrestleMania 40 wrapped on Sunday night in truly spectacular fashion, delivering an action-packed card from start to finish, including a main event that will perhaps go down as the greatest in professional wrestling history.

Four championships were on the line during Night 2's six-match card at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, and there were four total title changes.

After Roman Reigns and The Rock defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1, the main event between Rhodes and Reigns was contested under "Bloodline Rules" with the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at stake.

Night 2 — Full results and grades

Drew McIntyre defeats Seth Rollins in 10:38 to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Damian Priest defeats Drew McIntyre in ~10 seconds to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Best spot: Priest's cash-in on McIntyre

It's CASH-IN TIME!!!!!!! #WrestleMania pic.twitter.com/WuB9CKDDHC — WWE (@WWE) April 7, 2024

Analysis: The match between Rollins and McIntyre was an excellent opening match and would have earned high marks on its own. The champion and challenger told an excellent story and Rollins showed clear emotion after he lost the match. If the tone for the night wasn't set during the match, the events that unfolded after certainly did the job. CM Punk costing McIntyre his title and Priest cashing in to fully jump to the main event level opens up a series of new possibilities moving forward, especially as Rollins potentially deals with reported injuries.

Bobby Lashley and the Street Profits defeated The Final Testament in 8:35.

Best spot: "Get the tables!"

WAZZUPPPPPPP!!! 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪 #WrestleMania pic.twitter.com/J48CGhuxDB — WWE (@WWE) April 7, 2024

Analysis: Not every WrestleMania match needs to be a marathon or feature a dozen false finishes to be entertaining. The shortest "planned" match on either night, the Philadelphia Street Fight hit every note it needed to. Snoop Dogg was fun on commentary and Bubba Ray Dudley was a surprise as the special guest referee. Montez Ford shined — as usual — and we're likely done with the feud between these two stables.

LA Knight defeated AJ Styles in 12:31.

Best spot: Knight's avalanche German suplex

He's FLIPPING OUT at #WrestleMania ! pic.twitter.com/ZPWJugCh0T — WWE (@WWE) April 8, 2024

Analysis: Knight and Styles put on a solid, mid-card match that showcased the immense abilities of both stars without ever truly going over the top. Knight's avalanche German suplex was easily the best spot, but with so many other great moments and contests on the card, it's easy for this one to get overlooked.

Logan Paul defeats Kevin Owens and Randy Orton in 17:38 to retain the United States Championship.

Best spot: Orton counters pop-up powerbomb to hit RKO

Analysis: Eventually, we'll stop praising Logan Paul for his ability in the ring because it will stop being surprising, but we're not there yet. Paul held his own and put on a great triple threat match with respected veterans like Owens and Orton. The action flowed great, every man had their chance to shine and, despite the Prime mascot gimmick growing tired, this belongs among the best U.S. Championship WrestleMania matches ever.

Bayley defeats Iyo Sky in 14:26 to win the WWE Women's Championship.

Best spot: Sky's moonsault to the floor

IYO SKY. That's the tweet. #Wrestlemania pic.twitter.com/Hvca9u9ifm — Wrestling Pics & Clips (@WrestleClips) April 2, 2023

Analysis: More than anything, Bayley deserved to get her moment in a one-on-one match at WrestleMania for the first time in her career. Even after a loss, Sky remains among the most talented female stars on the WWE roster — evidenced by her nearly perfect moonsault, among other things. The payoff for the feud between the former Damage CTRL friends was told excellency, particularly the fact that there was no interference, keeping both women looking strong moving forward. Bayley's shift back to being a babyface is a welcome change for her character and it's cemented with this major win.

Cody Rhodes defeats Roman Reigns in 33:23 to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

Best spot: Rhodes winning, finishing his story

FINISHED. THE. STORY. ❤️ #CodyRhodes earned that #WrestleMania moment. pic.twitter.com/U5IAnBimgv — WWE (@WWE) April 8, 2024

Analysis: As mentioned in the intro — recency bias aside — there's a very good chance Rhodes-Reigns II goes down as the best main event in WrestleMania history. Shenanigans were expected (it is WrestleMania, after all), but we got more than 20 minutes of one-on-one action between Rhodes and Reigns before anyone interfered. This match was like a walk down WrestleMania/WWE memory lane. There were significant callbacks to the match between Rhodes and Reigns last year. John Cena and Rock shared the ring as an 11-year-old reference to WrestleMania 29. The Undertaker — arguably the greatest WrestleMania performer of all time — getting involved was a major surprise. Even the match's closing segment, with Reigns getting payback on Rollins for his betrayal a decade ago, was a remarkable throwback. This match is a perfect illustration of why people love professional wrestling, and Rhodes winning creates an unforgettable WrestleMania moment.

For full match breakdown and analysis, check out the recaps from our live coverage below.

Cody rhodes vs. roman reigns (c.) for the undisputed wwe universal championship in a "bloodline rules" match.

Rhodes and Reigns headline WrestleMania for the second night — and second year in a row. After Rhodes and Seth Rollins lost to The Rock and Reigns on Night 1, the main event match would be held under "Bloodline Rules," seeming putting the challenger at a severe disadvantage.

Rhodes entered first, with a fiery, almost war-like video package. As he rose from beneath the stage, he was wearing a crown and skull mask in what appeared to be an homage to Triple H — how far these two have come, right? Rhodes was accompanied by his wife Brandi for the first time since he came back to WWE.

Can #CodyRhodes finish the story TONIGHT at #WrestleMania XL? pic.twitter.com/wVIZyhVyVS — WWE (@WWE) April 8, 2024

Reigns' entrance included the School District of Philadelphia All-City Orchestra, but the champion was only accompanied to the ring by Paul Heyman despite the "Bloodline Rules" stipulation. Reigns has now been in the main event of WrestleMania a record nine times, surpassing Hulk Hogan. Reigns' run as champion is the 4th-longest in WWE history, behind Bruno Sammartino, Bob Backlund and Hogan.

Much like the Night 1 match, both men engaged in staring contest in the very beginning. The Philadelphia crowd was far more engaged in the early stages on Sunday compared to Saturday. Reigns used his power advantage, while Rhodes relied on his speed, avoiding a Reigns spear to have the champion crash into a ring post.

Rhodes was actually the first to bring weapons into the equation, pulling a table out from under the ring. Reigns hit Rhodes with a "drive-by" dropkick and the champion put the table back under the ring, disappointing the Philadelphia crowd. Rhodes continued to lean into the violence, sending Reigns into the ring steps.

Moments later, Reigns regained the upper hand by pummeling Rhodes with a kendo stick. Rhodes dodged a blow and eventually locked Reigns in the "figure-four." The WWE announcers suggested that the "Bloodline Rules" essentially amounted to a no-disqualification match, but pinfall or submission needed to happen in the ring.

Action spilled into the crowd shortly after, loosely following the structure of the Night 1 main event. Reigns teased a massive suplex off among the crowd, but Rhodes countered into a suplex of his own and guiding the action back to the ring area.

Rhodes, with a bit of momentum, went for a "disaster kick" but was caught in mid-air and powerbombed, snuffing out the brief swing in the challenger's favor. Reigns then taunted Rhodes, saying he would send him to Hollywood with the "rest of them," referencing John Cena and his cousin The Rock.

Reigns stayed in control, using a submission hold and a fisherman's suplex for a near-fall. After the referee counted to two and Rhodes kicked out, Reigns began to show visible signs of frustration despite maintaining control.

The pace briefly picked up as Rhodes and Reigns exchanged superkicks and big boots before taking each other out with a double clothesline. Rhodes finally regained the advantage with a scoop slam and "disaster kick," leading to a near-fall on the champion.

As Rhodes went for a "Cody cutter," Reigns caught the challenger and — in a sign of ultimate disrespect in wrestling — tried to end the match using Rhodes' own finisher. Reigns' taunts allowed Rhodes to recover enough to dodge a "superman" punch and hit the champion with his father's patented "bionic elbow" combination.

THAT'S CODY'S MOVE! #RomanReigns just used the Cross Rhodes at #WrestleMania !!! pic.twitter.com/cmMiHMk0vt — WWE (@WWE) April 8, 2024

Reigns would leverage the "Bloodline Rules" to land a low blow on Rhodes and powerbomb him through an announce table. Reigns quickly threw Rhodes back into the ring and hit a "superman" punch for another dramatic near-fall. Rhodes followed up by countering a spear from Reigns and hitting the "Cody cutter" for a near-fall of his own. Rhodes would get another near-fall after countering a "Rock bottom" attempt and hitting a spear on Reigns.

Finally, nearly 22 minutes into the match, there was much-expected outside interference. Jimmy Uso hit Rhodes with a superkick as he attempted to hit Reigns with a finisher. Jey Uso, who beat Jimmy on Night 1, followed shortly after and took out his twin with a spear off the WrestleMania stage and through a table.

It's BLOODLINE RULES at #WrestleMania ! pic.twitter.com/7a427h3xsI — WWE (@WWE) April 8, 2024

Back in the ring, Reigns landed a spear on Rhodes for yet another near-fall, but the challenger kicked out. Action spilled outside shortly after, allowing Rhodes to spear the champion through a barricade.

As Rhodes again went for a trio of "crossRhodes" finishers, Solo Sikoa interfered, delivering a Samoan spike to the challenger — a callback to how last year's main event ended. Sikoa dragged Reigns onto Rhodes for the cover but the challenger kicked out, stunning Sikoa and his cousin. The Bloodline duo hit a combo spear and spike, but Rhodes kicked out again.

Much like Jey Uso did, John Cena came to the rescue to get revenge on Sikoa. Cena hit Reigns with an "attitude adjustment" and then put Sikoa through an announce table with another "AA."

ROCK. CENA. WRESTLEMANIA. pic.twitter.com/3OHIA3wRWS — WWE (@WWE) April 8, 2024

That flurry from Cena brought out The Rock. Cena and Rock faced each other at WrestleMania 28 and 29, with each winning one match. The two megastars stared each other down before The Rock landed a "Rock bottom." As Rock took off his weight belt, The Shield's music hit and Rollins was about to take out The Rock with a chair — a callback to his betrayal of Reigns a decade earlier.

SIERRA HOTEL INDIA ECHO LIMA DELTA WRESTLEMANIA pic.twitter.com/1lFRUqKbFA — WWE (@WWE) April 8, 2024

Chaos continued as The Undertaker's music hit, the lights went down and the legendary superstar appeared in the ring to chokeslam The Rock. The lights dimmed again and just Rhodes, Rollins and Reigns were left in the ring with a steel chair.

UNDERTAKER!!!!!! #WrestleMania pic.twitter.com/zUlo3bItZu — WWE (@WWE) April 8, 2024

Reigns, rather than hitting Rhodes, turned his attention to Rollins, payback for his aforementioned betrayal. This allowed Rhodes to recover, hit a knee on Reigns and finally, land three "crossRhodes" and finish his story.

After the match, LA Knight, CM Punk, Randy Orton, Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, John Cena, Kevin Owens, Brandi Rhodes and Cody's family celebrated in the ring with the new champion.

Rhodes addressed the celebrating crowd, saying he is surrounded by greatness in the ring and stadium. He called out Bruce Pritchard and Triple H out, saying he would never have returned to WWE without those two men.

WrestleMania Night 2 celebrity row and Snoop Dogg announces attendance

With just one match remaining on the card, WWE showed off the big names in the crowd, including a couple of multi-night guests.

Among the celebrities shown in attendance were:

George Kittle (both nights)

Vanessa Hudgens (both nights)

Lilly Singh

Michael Che

The Eagles cheerleaders and mascot then introduced Snoop Dogg for his second appearance of the night. The WWE Hall of Famer announced the Night 2 attendance number as 72,755 — bringing the two-night total to 145,298.

Bayley vs. Iyo Sky (c.) for the WWE Women's Championship

A wing-clad Bayley entered WrestleMania on the shoulders of men dressed in Anubis masks as part of an overall Egyptian theme. It was the first time the star has had a one-on-one match at WrestleMania, a right she earned by winning the women's Royal Rumble match in January.

What a #WrestleMania entrance for @itsBayleyWWE ! pic.twitter.com/27GUATkU30 — WWE (@WWE) April 8, 2024

Iyo Sky, who was formerly aligned with Bayley as part of Damage CTRL, came onto the stage accompanied by Dakota Kai, Asuka and Kairi Sane, but they did not follow the champion down the ramp to the ring, suggesting the match would take place without outside interference.

The early stages of the match saw both Bayley and Sky briefly gain momentum before the challenger grabbed a significant advantage with a dive through the ropes and a baseball slide. Bayley would sell a knee injury and Sky would capitalize, focusing on her rival's right knee. Iyo would take firm control with a "dragon screw" and continue her offense outside the ring.

Bayley sent Sky over a barricade into the timekeeper's area and countered a high-risk maneuver into a body slam. Bayley picked up a near-fall before unleashing a modified sidewalk slam. Bayley climbed to the top turnbuckle, but Sky shoved her down to the floor and hit a massive moonsault and springboard dropkick herself.

The back-and-forth nature of the match continued as action returned to the ring. Bayley sent Sky into the turnbuckle with a sunset flip for a near-fall, then Sky landed two German suplexes — the second ending with a bridge pin for a near-fall of her own.

After the two near-falls, Sky and Bayley traded counters on each others' top-rope attempts and Sky locked in multiple submission moves — a "crossface" and "STF." Once Bayley broke free, she landed a "Bayley-to-belly" finisher, but Sky kicked out.

Sky and Bayley would tee off on each other in the middle of the ring before Sky landed a backbreaker and moonsault, appearing to end the match. Frustrated, Sky went for multiple moonsaults, but Bayley countered the last one and began to rebuild her momentum. Bayley landed a belly-to-back suplex, big elbow and "roseplant" to finally put away Sky and win the WWE Women's Championship.

Logan Paul (c.) vs. Kevin Owens vs. Randy Orton for the United States Championship

Logan Paul entered WrestleMania on a massive, blue monster truck adorned with the logo of his hydration/energy drink brand Prime. Paul's Prime is also the first sponsor WWE has allowed on the ring mat, an announcement that was made earlier this year. Paul was also accompanied to the ring by a Prime mascot, who in the past was revealed to be Paul's friend and fellow social media influencer KSI.

In a moment that mirrored Owens sending Sami Zayn through Gorilla on Night 1, the new Intercontinental Champion was there to offer encouragement to his best friend. Owens continued the vehicle theme by driving a golf cart to the ring. As Orton's music hit, Owens backed up to pick up The Viper.

Once the bell rang, Paul left the ring, attempting to bait Owens and Orton into fighting each other. Instead, the two veterans set their sights on Paul, using tandem offense on the champion outside. Orton and Owens took turns slamming Paul onto the Spanish announce table before moving things back inside the ropes.

Another attempt from Paul to turn his rivals against each other failed, and the beatdown of Paul continued. The first rift between Owens and Orton came as both went to pin Paul. Orton went for an "RKO," and the brawl was officially on. With Orton and Owens battling, Paul pulled out a slingshot double clothesline to finally gain the upper hand.

Owens would take out both Paul and Orton with a double cannonball and then went for a follow-up swanton bomb on Paul. The champion, who got his knees up to counter Owens, hit a swanton and frog splash combination of his own.

Recovered, Orton forced Paul out of the ring and hit his scoop slam on Owens and Paul before landing a double DDT to both men. Orton tried to capitalize with an "RKO" on Paul, who countered, forcing Orton into an Owens superkick.

A chaotic segment came as a "tower of doom" was teased, Paul attempted to go for a superplex on Owens, Owens countered to hit an avalanche powerslam and moonsault on Paul, Orton landed an "RKO" on Owens, and Paul took out Orton with brass knuckles. There were three dramatic near-falls involving all three competitors.

As Paul went for another brass knuckles punch, Orton countered with an "RKO" and took the brass knuckles and handed them over to the referee. Instead of using the brass knuckles, Orton lined Paul up for a "punt" before the Prime mascot saved Paul and revealed himself to be streamer IShowSpeed.

You won't believe who is in the PRIME Bottle costume!!! #WrestleMania pic.twitter.com/YcNkRvQfet — WWE (@WWE) April 8, 2024

Orton wouldn't have any more interference as he hit IShowSpeed with an "RKO" onto the announce table.

Paul tried to capitalize on the distraction, but Owens hit him with a pop-up powerbomb and then followed that with a stunner to Orton.

The final segment had Owens try and build momentum and land another pop-up powerbomb, this time on Orton. Orton countered with an "RKO," but Paul shoved Orton outside the ring and hit a frog splash on Owens for the win.

LA Knight vs. AJ Styles

Styles wasted no time, running down the ramp and starting the brawl with Knight right away — easily the shortest entrance of any at WrestleMania 40.

NEW MUSIC for @AJStylesOrg at #WrestleMania XL! pic.twitter.com/HPoDvv0pde — WWE (@WWE) April 8, 2024

Knight used the announce table to his advantage, slamming Styles' head against it repeatedly. As the action returned to the ring, Styles began to focus on Knight's left knee. Knight would counter a knee drop from Styles to get a quick near-fall and build momentum of his own — capping the series off with a tornado DDT.

The action picked up after Knight went for a superplex, but Styles countered. Knight would rebound fairly quickly to land an avalanche German suplex from the top rope and go for a pin. After kicking out, Styles locked Knight into his "calf crusher" submission, continuing to home in on Knight's knee. Styles used the ring post to do more damage to Knight's knee, but the tactic backfired when Knight pulled Styles' head into the structure.

He's FLIPPING OUT at #WrestleMania ! pic.twitter.com/ZPWJugCh0T — WWE (@WWE) April 8, 2024

Knight ripped up the padding outside the ring, going for a powerbomb that Styles would reverse into a back-body drop. Knight barely made it back into the ring before the 10 count, allowing the match to continue.

As things returned to the ring, Styles went for a springboard 450 splash before Knight was able to get his knees up for the counter. Knight and Styles would pick up the pace, with each man countering the others' finisher attempts. The closing sequence ended with Knight hitting a "BFT" on Styles and picking up the win in his first WrestleMania appearance.

Philadelphia Street Fight between Street Profits and Bobby Lashley against The Final Testament

After the thrilling opener, WWE brought in Snoop Dogg as a special guest commentator and WWE Hall of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley as the special guest referee. Dudley's ties to Philadelphia as one of ECW's biggest stars made him a perfect fit for this match.

WWE Hall of Famer @SnoopDogg has arrived at #WrestleMania XL with the #WWEGoldenTitle ! pic.twitter.com/eTdqHTg3KQ — WWE (@WWE) April 7, 2024
Get the SPECIAL GUEST REFEREE!!! #WrestleMania pic.twitter.com/EdmgjChbIw — WWE (@WWE) April 7, 2024

Profits and Lashley quickly cleared the ring and went to get weapons. After the Profits set up a table, Authors of Pain took out Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford, allowing The Final Testament to turn their attention to Lashley, beating him down with kendo sticks and a chair.

The Street Profits broke up a pin and tried to turn the tides but found themselves falling victim to the numbers game. B-Fab and Scarlett Bordeaux got involved for their respective teams and Lashley and the Street Profits were able to gain the upper hand.

Ford took out both members of the Authors of Pain with a massive leap over the ring post to the outside while Lashley focused his attention on Karrion Kross. With Kross locked in Lashley's submission finisher, Scarlett broke the hold. B-Fab performed a Russian leg sweep on Scarlett through the table that was set up outside the ring earlier.

THIS. IS EXTREME. #WrestleMania pic.twitter.com/h2BvvVtKfb — WWE (@WWE) April 7, 2024

Kross DDT'd Lashley onto a steel chair, but Lashley kicked out at two. Kross then got angry with the special guest referee, Bubba Ray Dudley, allowing Lashley to land a spear. Lashley and the Profits paid homage to the Dudley Boyz, hitting a "wazzzup" drop and then demanding that they "get the tables," earning a huge pop and "E-C-Dub" chants from the Philadelphia crowd.

With a table set up in the middle of the ring, Ford landed a frog splash on Kross and Lashley pinned him for the win.

McIntyre confronts CM Punk, Damian Priest cashes in the "Money in the Bank" contract

McIntyre taunted CM Punk on commentary and before long, the "Best in the World" had enough. Punk took out McIntyre on the announce table and beat him down with his arm brace.

As Punk assaulted McIntyre, Judgment Day member Damian Priest rushed to the ring to cash in his "Money in the Bank" contract, guaranteeing him a championship match at any time. Priest hit a chokeslam on McIntyre and pinned him for the win.

It's CASH-IN TIME!!!!!!! #WrestleMania pic.twitter.com/WuB9CKDDHC — WWE (@WWE) April 7, 2024

Priest's win marks the second time in WrestleMania history that the "Money in the Bank" contract has been cashed in. The last time was at WrestleMania 31 when Seth Rollins used his briefcase to insert himself into the main event against Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns. Rollins would win his first WWE Championship that night.

Stephanie McMahon kicks off Night 2, Drew McIntyre vs Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship is first match

CM Punk was the first out before Night 2 of WrestleMania officially got underway. This spot was believed to be his — a championship match against Rollins — before an injury forced him out of action.

It's #WrestleMania time! We're kicking the night off with the World Heavyweight Championship Match! pic.twitter.com/bxbfthYUwX — WWE (@WWE) April 7, 2024

Punk will be commentating — as if he didn't make enough news with his commentary in the week leading up to WrestleMania — but look for him to potentially factor into the match itself.

As for Rollins, he's technically performing in back-to-back WrestleMania matches, having closed out Night 1 alongside Cody Rhodes against The Rock and Roman Reigns. Expect an emphasis to be placed on how much a battle he went through roughly 20 hours before Night 2 kicked off.

McIntyre is no stranger to the WrestleMania stage, but this will be the biggest match he's he's been in at the "Showcase of the Immortals." McIntyre won the WWE Championship in a match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36 — which was held in the WWE Performance Center with no fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before the in-ring action, Stephanie McMahon did a brief intro and gave her husband, Paul "Triple H" Levesque his flowers for leading WWE's creative efforts.

Kicking off #WrestleMania XL Sunday is none other than @StephMcMahon ! pic.twitter.com/9C1bfZpDUU — WWE (@WWE) April 7, 2024

McIntyre was introduced with a series of bagpipe players from Philadelphia's Ulster Scottish Pipe Band and extras holding swords to create an archway on the way to the ring.

DM Hunk has arrived! @DMcIntyreWWE is #WrestleMania ready with a special entrance! pic.twitter.com/TAZwrLKHgb — WWE (@WWE) April 7, 2024

Rollins, who had a fairly standard entrance on Night 1, had a series of musicians from the Philadelphia Mummers String Band Association play him onto and follow him down the stage. This looked like a fever dream more than a WrestleMania match.

PHILA-FREAKIN-DELPHIA! @WWERollins arrives on #WrestleMania XL Sunday with the Mummers of Philadelphia! pic.twitter.com/mOsgCNJX2G — WWE (@WWE) April 7, 2024

As soon as the bell rang, McIntyre hit Rollins with his finisher, the "claymore kick," and scored a near-fall. As action shifted outside the ring, McIntyre hit Rollins with a chop block to his injured knee and executed two belly-to-belly suplexes.

CLAYMORE as soon as the bell rings! #WrestleMania pic.twitter.com/Wf1ebHuikZ — WWE (@WWE) April 7, 2024

With McIntyre's attention shifted to CM Punk, Rollins was able to hit a pedigree on the floor and a stomp back in the ring, evening up the score. Rollins continued to sell his knee injury as the two men exchanged blows in the center of the ring.

McIntyre went for another "claymore," but Rollins countered to hit a flurry of big moves — powerbomb, pedigree, stomp — and get a near-fall to draw "this is awesome" chants from the Philadelphia crowd.

Rollins went for a top-rope stomp, but missed and again played up the knee injury. McIntyre capitalized to land a "future shock" DDT. McIntyre, again taunting CM Punk, attempted to land Punk's finisher on Rollins. Rollins reversed it into a quick rollup pin for yet another near-fall.

A @DMcIntyreWWE GTS?! #WrestleMania pic.twitter.com/EX7M5F2FVa — WWE (@WWE) April 7, 2024

McIntyre, clearly frustrated, moved things outside the ring and nearly powerbombed Rollins through an announce table. Rollins countered and then used both the English and Spanish announce tables to land a stomp on McIntyre.

As things moved back into the ring for the closing stages, McIntyre quickly hit two "claymore" kicks to score the pin and become a 3-time WWE world champion.

WrestleMania Night 1 recap

In case you missed any of the action from Night 1 of Wrestlemania, here's our results, grades, analysis and live blog recap.

Some of the highlights/takeaways

WWE created a true WrestleMania moment during the tag team ladder match as R-Truth and The Miz — known as the Awesome Truth — won their first championship as a team. It was also the first time R-Truth has won at WrestleMania

Speaking of the ladder match — DIY's tributes to DX and Triple H and Shawn Michaels were spot-on. Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano also had two of the more jaw-dropping moments of the night during the match.

Bianca Belair steals the show every time she steps into the ring, especially at WrestleMania. Hers, Naomi's and Jade Cargill's entrance was the coolest of the night.

There were plenty of "Rocky" references — the movie, not Dwayne Johnson — but my favorite was Chad Gable saying Sami Zayn owed him a favor a la Apollo Creed in "Rocky III"

Sami Zayn ending Gunther's record Intercontinental Championship reign was the night's biggest surprise, by far.

The main event, while having a relatively predictable outcome, still delivered. The Rock showed that even in his 50s, he's still a main-event level star.

In case you missed Night 1 or any of our coverage leading up to WrestleMania, here's where you can catch up:

Damian Priest Spotted At Yankee Stadium Following WrestleMania 40 Title Win

By Ella Jay

Damian Priest makes a trip to Yankee Stadium.

Two days after successfully cashing in his Money in the Bank contract on Drew McIntyre at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, the newly-minted WWE World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest returned to his hometown of The Bronx to hang out with the stars of the New York Yankees. Priest’s visit to Yankee Stadium came ahead of the April 9 ballgame between the Yankees and the Maimi Marlins.

“I’m a big fan of yours,” Priest told the current Yankees captain, Aaron Judge (via a WWE Instagram reel ). “I was just talking about you, the way you carry yourself, and the way you represent this team, is beautiful.”

In response, Judge told Priest that he felt blessed to be in a position to not only present New York City, but also don the prestigious pinstripes of the New York Yankees. Judge also gifted Priest a baseball bat.

While conversing, Priest later mentioned that his “All Rise” catchphrase was inspired by Judge’s MLB slogan.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by WWE (@wwe)

Priest was also seen mingling with the likes of outfielder Juan Soto, catcher Jose Trevino, and YES Network analyst (and former Yankees right-fielder) Nick Swisher.

Following his trip to the baseball field, Damian Priest will now pivot his attention to “Main Event” Jey Uso, who is set to challenge him for the World Heavyweight Championship in the near future.
