To get you started, here’s a simple women’s cruise packing list for a 7 day warm weather cruise, to use as a guide. You may prefer to pack less or more, so adjust quantities of your favorite items accordingly.

I like to have 2 colors, one black and one in a champagne or other color to change up the look.

Here are some favorite accessories to pack for a cruise . Having a wide brim sunhat and/or a cap is important for any sunny and hot weather cruise. Sunglasses are a must as well.

I like to bring a pair or two or inexpensive sunglasses ever since my husband lost his Ray-bans in a taxi cab while in Cozumel cruise port .

My cruise is in October and we will be going to Western Europe, we start in London and go to Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, and back to London. I only found the list for Warm weather. How I does the list differ for Cooler weather? Thanks!

I have a packing list for Alaska, but your cruise will be different than that. Consider that on this cooler cruise in Europe that long sleeve clothing, long pants and/or skirts, as well as a light jacket will be useful. At this time I don’t have a full clothing packing list for your itinerary, but it’s something I can create for the future.

Plus Size Cruise Wear Ideas

Cruise dresses plus size.

For a seven day cruise, bring along two sundresses and two maxi dresses. In the graphics below we’ve only included one of each kind in each outfit but you can mix & match the dresses and accessories if you stick to a color scheme for your cruise capsule wardrobe.

Orange Sleeveless Sundress (Up to 3XL, lots of colors)

Printed Maxi Sleeveless (Up to 2XL, several colors)

Plus Size Formal Cruise Dresses

There are lots of options for plus size formal cruise dresses for curvy women! Pick two that you like to wear on formal night and use the same accessories for both dresses to minimize packing bulky items like heels. It’s worth noting that you don’t have to dress up for formal night on many cruise lines these days. You might be comfortable enough dressing up a maxi dress with wedge sandals and jewelry. Totally up to you ladies!

Plus Size Swimsuits & Coverups

It’s worth bringing at least two swim suits and cover ups on a week long Caribbean cruise. There’s nothing worse than having to put on a soggy swimsuit! You can also use the print kimono above as a cover up or wear shorts over your swim suit bottoms when getting on and off the ship.

Accessories:

Pick colors that match all your outfits when choosing your accessories. A lightweight scarf is perfect for cruising. It keeps the sun off your shoulders and can cover up the tops of your arms if you feel self conscious in sleeveless vests or dresses. Likewise a pashmina is great for covering your arms in the evening.

Black clutch (optional)

We like these Croc sandals instead of flip flops. They are more supportive and comfortable. They’re great for the beach or pool and very lightweight and packable. Lightweight sneakers like these Sketchers Go Walk shoes are perfect for travel as they’re lightweight and packable. They’re great at the airport and port before your cruise and on excursions. If you don’t plan on getting really dressed up on formal night, you can leave out the heels and just wear wedge sandals and a maxi dress.

(Aerosoles are very comfortable and available in a wide fit)

If black heels don’t go with your formal night outfits, choose nude and switch to a gold purse.

20 Cruise Outfits Plus Size Ladies Will Love!

Striped T-Shirt

With two striped t-shirts, a pair of shorts and a skirt in co-ordinating colors you can create four easy plus size cruise outfits. These four outfits are ideal for embarkation day, sea days and excursions.

• Striped t-shirts with shorts and sneakers are ideal for embarkation day or excursions and tours where you’ve got a lot of walking to do
• Striped t-shirts with a midi length skirt and flip flops for relaxed sea days or excursions

Cotton Sundress

With two sundresses in your suitcase you can create four outfits. Just pick two dresses with colors that co-ordinate nicely with all your accessories. The lightweight scarf is ideal for shore excursions when you want to keep the sun off your shoulders. Kimonos are a wonderful way to dress up and outfit and we love that it covers the tops of our arms.

• Casual day wear with sun hat, lightweight scarf and flip flops
• Casual dining in the evening with kimono, wedges and necklace

Packing Tip:

Use anti-chafing balm  like this on your legs to prevent your thighs rubbing together and chafing when wearing dresses in hot weather.

Maxi dresses are ideal ladies plus size cruise wear. Pack two and you can create these four outfits that are good for day or evening.

• Casual but stylish day wear with sandals and a sunhat around the ship
• Casual but classy evening wear with wedge sandals and a pashmina for dining on non-formal nights

Palazzo pants

Give these Palazzo pants a go! They are lightweight and comfortable. Great for cruising!

• Wear during the day with white tee, sun hat and flip flops for excursions or around the ship
• Wear in the evening on non-formal nights with a nice top, necklace and wedge sandals

Linen shorts

Linen shorts are great for cruising in hot weather. Linen is lightweight and breathable. If you’re not comfortable in knee length shorts like these then you could opt for a capri length pant instead for the same outfits.

• Wear them around the ship during the day or on excursions with a vest top, lightweight scarf and sandals
• Use them over your swimsuit on beach or sailing excursions and throw a kimono over top for more coverage

White Jeans or Linen Pants

Linen pants are lovely lightweight cruising attire. They look smart but are cool and comfortable. If you don’t like the look of linen pants then you could opt for a stretchy white jean or capri pant. Chiffon tunics like this are fantastic for travel as they take up minimal space and don’t crease.

• Casual day wear with a vest top or striped t-shirt and sandals
• Evening casual with a chiffon tunic top (you’ll need a camisole underneath this one as it’s sheer)

Cocktail Dresses

Pack two cocktail dresses for a week-long cruise. Use the same accessories with both dresses to avoid overpacking. See our section above for different options on plus size cruise formal wear. There are lots of different styles of dresses available for plus sized ladies that are great for cruise formal nights!

Remember if you don’t want to get really dressed up on formal night you don’t have to! You can get away with a maxi dress and wedges with some jewelry and hair and make up done. Or if you prefer not to dress up at all, go to the buffet for dinner instead. It’s your choice!

Every plus-size woman’s dream is to get a short that offers comfort and flexibility. You can easily move and walk across the entire cruise with these ripped, folded jeans. For casual daytime activities, these shorts are the perfect option. You can wear tank tops, crop tops, or simple off-shoulder tops with these shorts. 

2- Colorful Cotton Linen Shirt and Drawstring Shorts

I love cotton shirts with shorts, and it’s even better when they rock the same color. Matching vibes make the combo pop, you know? This outfit looks super cool with plus-size women; the collared shirt makes you look sophisticated. Unlike the other shorts, this one has an adjustable waist rope so you can adjust it according to your tummy’s comfort. 

3- Wide Leg Pants

If you want to feel more comfortable and confident, just go for these wide-leg pants. These pants look so cute with any casual half-sleeve top. Two pockets on either side let you hold your essentials. It’s available in many colors, but I love the sea green. 

4- Loose Capri Pants 

I’ve been wearing capris for a long time. They feel incredibly cozy. This loose capri pants offers a chic and versatile look for women. Further, the cropped length showcases ankles, providing a flattering silhouette. This capri is a great option for warm and tropical regions.

5- Flared Capri Pants 

This flared capri pant is perfect for cruising, offering a breeze and a stylish look. The wide-leg design provides comfort and a relaxed vibe, ideal for strolls or lounging on deck. 

6- Printed Palazzo Pants

As a plus size option, these printed palazzo pants combine style and comfort seamlessly. Start your day with these versatile pants, perfect for morning yoga on the balcony, ensuring a chic and relaxed cruise experience. 

Choosing The Perfect Plus Size Cruise Outfits 

I always wonder how to rock plus-size outfits. Here’s a hack—go for matching vibes! Got a light blue maxi dress? Grab white sandals, a black shade, a hat, and a cute white clutch! 

Similarly, matching accessories can even elevate your look. Don’t forget to add statement jewelry, scarves, and a nice hat to personalize your look. 

If you’re a plus size lady, the elegant floral printed dresses seem ideal attire. Darker shades can be slimming, but don’t shy away from bold patterns that express your personality. But still, you’re the master of your own destiny, so you have the freedom to choose the best color. 

Next, comfort is the main key. Always go for breathable, loose outfits that let you stroll comfortably on the cruise. Tight clothes seem wired with curvy ladies as it would highlight your curves. 

Always choose an outfit that boosts your confidence. I always wear a dress that makes me happy, so whenever I wear it on a cruise, I feel pleasure, giving me more confidence. 

Versatility is another factor I have mentioned; always go for dresses that can be mixed and matched easily. In this way, you can change the style every time with fewer pieces. 

Choose Cruise Outfits According To Weather Conditions

Before packing for my cruise voyage, I often check the weather for the next 14 days on my phone and pack outfits accordingly. 

Packing is tedious for me; to make it simple, I always pack necessary items. You don’t need to pack heavy, so first check the weather conditions of your destination and then pack some light stuff accordingly.

Packing For Alaskan Cruise

Packing for the Alaskan cruise is a bit heavy as you have to pack extra layers and a jacket. The climate usually remains cold throughout the year, but if you’re sailing to Alaska in the months of June and August, the temperature is around 19 °C to 22°C. 

So here are some essential plus-size outfits that you must pack for the Alaskan cruise. 

• Layers to protect your body from cold temperatures. 
• Warm jackets for a cozy experience. 
• Warm shoes for comfortable walking. 
• Instead of half sleeves, go for full-sleeved shirts. 
• Don’t forget to pack raincoats. 

Packing For Caribbean Cruise

I love Caribbean adventures because you must pack very little for a cruise. Due to the warm climate, you need to pack lightweight, breezy, and breathable clothes.

Mediterranean cruises are a little longer than Caribbean cruises, so I always pack some extra outfits; this also helps you avoid laundry charges. Here are some necessary outfits that you can pack for the Mediterranean cruise.

• Most 7-night cruises will have a dress code that requests guests dress “smart casual” 5 nights of the cruise and “formal” or “elegant” for two nights.
• For those “smart casual nights”, dresses of all types are a great choice for evenings on the ship. But, there are so many choices! If dresses aren’t your jam, don’t be afraid to wear pants, capri’s, slacks, jumpsuits, or even dressy shorts or jeans (on most ships this is fine).
• Flowing maxi dresses are a must-have for any cruise. They’re comfortable, and versatile, and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Look for styles with empire waists, ruching, or wrap silhouettes to flatter your curves.
• Sundresses can be worn day or night, and in some cases, re-worn for both casual dinners and days around the ship.

A cruise pulls you out of your usual routine - which is part of the appeal. Once you're on the ship, you don't have to worry about anything except showing up to dinner on time. It's so relaxing. But do you have anything to wear?  

There's more pressure to dress just so on a cruise than on other vacations. You're going to be seeing the same people for the whole trip, so you want to make a good impression. Plus size women are used to being judged every time we're in public, but we're also used to ignoring the opinions of strangers. It's a bit harder to do that when you keep running into them on the way to breakfast.

Casual? Dressy?

When you start planning your cruise wardrobe, you'll need to find out exactly which tone you want to strike. You're going to be a lot dressier on the Queen Mary than on other ships. Also keep your destination in mind - obviously Alaska requires different clothes than the Caribbean.

Your itinerary may indicate when and where you'll need to be Smart Casual or Formal or whatever.   Google your cruise line and destination to get an idea of how casual or formal your clothes should be. There are blogs and message boards where cruise veterans share this sort of info.

If everyone else will be wearing t-shirts or sundresses over bathing suits, that doesn't mean you have to. If you want to, go right ahead. But you shouldn't feel obligated to be that exposed and unsupported.

Let's Get Specific

If you're going to be swimming (either on the ship or at your destination), bring two bathing suits so you won't have to pull on a wet one. Rash guards (swimsuits that resemble long sleeve or short sleeve tees) may not be glamorous, but they can help you avoid sunburn which can ruin any vacation.

Most of our Dresses can be Casual, Smart Casual or Formal depending on what you wear with them. Take the Jewel Neckline Maxi Dress for example. With simple costume jewelry and sandals it's dressy casual. With bolder costume jewelry and nicer sandals, it's smart casual. With the real stuff (or fabulous fakes), it's Formal.

You'll probably change your clothes several times a day, so you can wear them more than once even without washing them in the tiny bathroom sink. If you don't want to repeat an entire outfit, play around with different combinations. You don't need to plan out every single outfit you'll wear in advance. Leave room for spontaneity. Bring pieces in colors that work together, add some great toppers and a few neutrals and you'll be fine. 

You don't have to be dressed exactly like everyone else to enjoy yourself. Most people will be too self absorbed to pay attention to anyone else. The few who do walk around judging everyone are miserable jerks and you should just feel sorry for them.
