Because if they are an unknown brand, untested, or rated poorly as a company, you should steer well clear of them.  Both American Journey and Purina have excellent brand histories . Both brands are well thought of in the dog food industry, with Purina having started their journey a long time ago.

American Journey

Following a recent and big online promotion for their products recently, their products are proving to be a big hit. They are quickly becoming known as a quality product but at a budget price . American Journey as a brand is definitely one to watch out for, and they are giving well-known and premium brands a run for their money (and yours for that matter!). They are now being compared to bigger brands like Blue Buffalo, and versus Wellness .

Purina began their journey in 1894 in the farm animal feeding business. Their business grew from strength to strength, and by 1956 they created the first-ever dog kibble. In 2001 Purina was acquired by the global industry Nestle, and they are now known across the world as one of the leading dog food brands.

Purina has 7 dry kibble lines and an additional line for their wet foods. Purina Pro is one of their lines that uses real meat as the first ingredient. It was created in 1986 and was the first brand to use real meat , and has been a big hit ever since.

Looking at a brand’s history of recalled products is helpful in understanding how seriously they take the safety of their food. Let’s take a look at how many recalls each brand has had. Websites such as the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) are excellent sources of recall information.

There has been no recorded product recalls for American Journey . This is encouraging for a new brand, especially one who does not charge a premium for their products.

After our research using the above websites, it appears that Purina Pro has only had one recall:

March 2016 – Purina Pro voluntarily recalled a batch of their wet Savory Meal foods (along with products from a few other lines). After an investigation, they were found not to contain the recommended amount of vitamins and minerals stated. Although this didn’t cause any issues for dogs, it was not up to the standard Purina promised.

Research shows that Purina as a whole brand has had one other recall, which was in their One line. For a brand that has been around since 1894 and produces the sheer amount of food that they do, we say that their one recall is very impressive when compared to other brands.

Food Ingredients

It is also essential to consider the ingredients that each brand uses. Some brands go down the all-natural route. And some brands prefer to use a mixture of natural and scientifically beneficial ingredients that are not all natural.

Some brands use premium products such as real meats, whereas some brands use questionable meat sources and fillers. Ultimately this is down to owner preference and your pooch’s own nutritional needs, so let’s take a closer look.

American Journey promises to use deboned meat as the first listed ingredient in every product. Other similarly priced budget brands don’t always guarantee this. Chicken and Salmon are their primary flavors, with a few Lamb, Beef and Turkey offerings. They also never use meat by-products, which is a much lower quality meat source.

American Journey also uses a mixture of grains and non-grain ingredients for differing nutritional needs. With their grain inclusive recipes, they promise never to use any corn, wheat, or soy. They favor gentle and wholesome grains such as brown rice and oatmeal. Budget brands tend to stick to cheaper grains and fillers.

On the downside, American Journey is guilty of ingredient splitting , commonly using pea ingredients. By splitting pea into four types of pea, they can list these ingredients further down the list after meat. But in reality, if the 4 pea ingredients (pea protein, pea fiber, pea starch, and whole peas) were combined, pea would probably be the first ingredient. This makes it difficult for consumers to determine the real meat protein content. 

Purina’s Pro range is marketed as one of their premium product lines . They claim that this line provides “outstanding nutrition for those that want the absolute best for their dog”. Their formulas always start with real meat as the first ingredient.

They provide some grain-free options, but many of their recipes are grain inclusive . Purina also uses gentle grain ingredients such as brown rice and oatmeal as the primary grains. They also sometimes use wheat, corn, and soy ingredients in their formulas unless otherwise stated. These ingredients are common food allergens in sensitive dogs. Still, they have a handful of recipes that are free of these ingredients for those that are allergic to them, which is helpful.

Purina Pro also uses meat by-product meals . Purina claim that their meat by-product meals are organ-based and do not include animal parts such as feathers, beaks, and teeth. Although we do not usually like or promote meat by-products, if they are just the organs as Purina claims, these are full of amino acids and nutrients that are beneficial. What we do not like, however, is that Purina sometimes states ‘meat’ or ‘poultry’ by-products. This generic labeling is not helpful for those pups with specific intolerances and need to know what they are eating.

Range of Formulas

Not every dog is the same, which is why brands need to offer a variety of different formulas for their wide range of canine customers. Both brands have a wide variety of food formulas, as well as meats, vegetables and other ingredients. Let’s take a closer look at the product lines that each brand offers. 

American Journey has a total of 3 product lines. They are their standard kibble, a limited ingredient line, and their Landmark line. American Journey’s standard product line offers both grain-free and grain inclusive options. There are 3 healthy weight options too. Unfortunately, the Limited Ingredient line and Landmark are limited to grain-free options only. 

Purina Pro has 4 product options. Savor, which is designed for picky eaters and has optimal flavor. Focus for dogs with sensitive digestive systems. Sport for energetic or working dogs. And Bright Minds for seniors that are aged 7 and up. There are grain inclusive and grain-free options across each range. As well as options for porkier pooches who need to lose a few pounds.

Puppy Formulas

Ensuring that your puppy gets the right nutrition during puppyhood is so important because it sets the foundations for a healthy body . Let’s take a look at what each brand offers during the puppy stage.

There are 6 puppy formulas available. There are grain inclusive and grain-free options in their standard kibble range that also come in a variety of flavors. Two of the puppy formulas are specifically designed for large breed puppies and their different nutritional needs. There is also a protein-rich option too. Unfortunately, there are no options for small breed puppies.

Purina Pro offers 10 puppy formulas across their different ranges, but with only 1 grain-free option for puppies. There are a few large breed options, one puppy formula for small breeds , and one option for toy breeds. There are also 2 options for puppies with sensitive skin.

Overall, Purina Pro caters to all breed sizes, which is something that American Journey fails to do. They also have options for those with sensitive skin, which many brands don’t offer at the puppy stage. Overall, Purina Pro win the puppy round.

Adult Formulas

Adulthood is all about a well-balanced diet . As well as ensuring that his own specific needs are catered to.

In total, there are 22 adult kibbles available. There are 8 grain-free recipes and 7 grain inclusive recipes that use brown rice as their primary grain. American Journey offers 2 high-protein options and 5 limited ingredients recipes for those with sensitive digestive systems.

There are 4 formulas specifically designed for large breeds as well as 3 diet management kibbles. 

Purina Pro offers 35 options for adults . 5 of these are grain-free options, with the rest using grains such as brown rice and oatmeal. Some of them do contain corn, wheat, and soy, so always be sure to read the ingredients list for yourself if your pooch is intolerant. There are also kibbles for those with sensitive skin and digestive tracts. As well as pea-free recipes and weight management kibbles.

There are 4 large breed options and one for giant breeds, which again is another option that many brands do not offer. There are 6 small breed options and 1 option for toy breeds. So, every breed size adult is covered.

There are also 3 kibbles that are designed with sporting or working breeds in mind.

Although American Journey has much more variety in the adult stage, they have still forgotten about small breed dogs. Purina Pro beat them again, covering dogs of all sizes and dietary needs. With that being said, American Journey is cheaper and has great user reviews. We’d call this one a tie , giving the slight edge to American Journey based on consumer feedback.

Senior Formulas

American Journey Senior Dog Food

Senior dogs need a well-balanced diet, with extra vitamins and minerals for his immunity and glucosamine for his joints. Seniors require less energy as they are less active, as well as easy-to-digest dog food formulas for their slowing digestive systems.

There are 3 American Journey options for senior dogs. 2 options are grain-free, and the other is grain inclusive. The glucosamine content is very high in one of their recipes, which is their Salmon and sweet potato recipe, at 800 mg/kg. The grain inclusive formula offers a much lower content.

Purina Pro offers 4 senior options . 1 option is for small breeds, 1 option is for large breeds, and the other is for seniors with a sensitive stomach.

The glucosamine content is 500 mg/kg for each of their senior kibbles, which is an average content across similar brands. Unfortunately, they list poultry by-product in every senior recipe , and being an unnamed meat source is problematic for those with a sensitive digestive system. 

American Journey offers 1 recipe less than Purina Pro, and they also miss out small and large breeds again. But their quality is much more superior compared to Purina Pro’s senior options. Their meat sources are always named using real meat, and the glucosamine content is much higher. So, American Journey wins this round.

If your pooch is struggling to eat his dry kibbles, or he is a fussy pooch who wants juicer food, wet foods are a great way to mix things up . So, what do each brand offer here? Let’s take a look.

American Journey offers a total of 7 wet foods . There are a variety of different flavors and limited ingredient formulas too. Unfortunately, there aren’t any grain inclusive options. There aren’t any small breeds, puppies, or seniors options either.

There are 41 wet food options across the bright mind, focus, and savor lines. They cover a variety of dietary needs, such as a sensitive digestive system, weight control, grain-free, and pea-free needs. There are also options for small and large breeds, as well as puppies and seniors.

Overall, American Journey’s wet formulas are limited, and Purina Pro caters to a much wider audience. Therefore we crown Purina Pro as the winner in the senior round.

Final Thoughts & Winner

We like both brands, and they are clearly popular with dog owners across America and the rest of the world. Although Purina Pro is the more premium brand of the two, we do not like the fact that they use unnamed meat sources. For a superior brand, there is no reason not to be more transparent about what ingredients they are using.

However, Purina Pro does offer much more variety for dogs out there. American Journey does not cater at all for small breeds, which is a large portion of the market. They also do not have options for those with sensitive skin or digestive systems.

Overall, if your dog has a specific dietary requirement, or he is a small or toy breed, then Purina Pro is your only option. But if your dog falls into the categories that American Journey caters to, then we would pick American Journey products. Not only do they match Purina’s quality (sometimes better it), they are also much better value for money too.

Hill’s Science Diet received the highest overall score of all the dog food brands in our survey, and it got particularly high marks in terms of ingredient quality. Many respondents said this brand was recommended to them by their dog’s veterinarian, and it’s a particularly good choice for dogs with health problems. Hill’s Science Diet has formulas to help with conditions like weight management, digestive issues, and allergies, and the brand also has a line of prescription dog foods for medical conditions like urinary and kidney problems. 

Among its over-the-counter food options, Hill’s Science Diet has options for dogs of different sizes — for instance, the Small Bite formulas have a smaller kibble size that’s easy for small breeds to chew. There are also options for puppies and senior dogs that come in both wet and dry forms. However, the major downside to this brand is that it’s quite expensive, and survey respondents said the price has only gone up in recent years. Respondents also noted that some of the containers require a can opener to open, which can be inconvenient.

This brand is a more affordable option from Purina, and many owners think it’s a good value.

Many of the formulas help dogs maintain a healthy weight.

Owners say that food from this brand works well for dogs with sensitive stomachs.

There are limited flavors available — generally just chicken or lamb.

Among the 407 dog owners we surveyed, 11 percent feed their pets Purina One, and in particular, this brand was a top choice for pups with stomach issues. Several people mentioned that the food suits their dogs' sensitive stomachs, even after prolonged usage, and while it’s still made with high-quality ingredients, it’s a more affordable choice than Purina Pro Plan. 

Purina One offers both wet and dry dog food, and if you have a small dog, there are special small breed formulas that will be easy for them to eat. Survey respondents say that this food helps their dogs maintain a healthy weight, and there are also specific formulas for health issues like weight management, joint health , and skin and coat health. However, Purina One is often only available in chicken or lamb flavors, which may be limiting for picky eaters or dogs with food sensitivities.

The fresh food is made with human-grade ingredients, earning it top scores for ingredient quality.

According to owners, dogs love the taste of this food, as it has real chunks of meat in it.

This brand isn’t widely available and can be hard to find in stores.

Fresh dog food is an increasingly popular category, and several of the dog owners in our survey feed their dogs Freshpet. This brand sells fresh dog food made with human-grade ingredients, including both meat and vegetables, and the food comes in small tubes that must be refrigerated until serving. Among our survey respondents, Freshpet received top scores for both ingredient quality and engagement, with owners saying their pups love the taste. Plus, many feel good knowing their pet is getting healthy, nutritious food without any unhealthy ingredients.

Freshpet currently offers several different food options, including multiple flavors and grain-free options as well. The downside of Freshpet is that it isn’t as widely available as many other brands, and of course, it’s more challenging to store, as it has a shorter shelf life and must be kept cold.

Blue Buffalo

Dog owners note that this food is good for sensitive stomachs and promotes coat health.

Dog owners would like to see more formulas for specific health concerns.

Blue Buffalo is another brand that uses high-quality ingredients — a top consideration for pet owners  — and our survey respondents said the food helps keep their pups healthy and happy. Several people said that this dog food helped them manage digestive problems, and it also keeps their pet’s fur shiny and soft. Plus, Blue Buffalo is widely available and often a bit more affordable than other high-quality food brands. 

If you decide to go with this brand, you’ll have your choice between wet and dry food varieties, and many are available in several protein options, which can be useful if your dog has allergies or flavor preferences. In our survey, dog owners also noted that the brand offers dry food for smaller dogs, and the smaller kibble size is easy for their pets to chew. However, Blue Buffalo doesn’t have the largest variety when it comes to formulas for specific health conditions.

Dog owners say the quality of Iams food has been consistent over the years.

This food helps promote skin and coat health, making hair soft and shiny.

Owners said that the price is reasonable for the quality of the food.

Some formulas do have more filler content than owners would like.

It’s always frustrating when the quality of dog food is inconsistent, but our surveyed dog owners say that isn’t a problem with Iams. People who have used this food for years say the quality is reliably high, and many also note that the brand uses good ingredients in its formulas. Other comments we frequently heard about Iams are that it helps with coat health and that the price is reasonable for the quality of food. 

Iams offers a moderate selection of dry dog food, but its wet food options are fairly limited. There are formulas for different life stages and breed sizes, but you won’t find many options for health problems. The Iams Proactive Health Healthy Weight dog food can help manage weight problems, but the brand doesn’t have formulas for other conditions. Some of the formulas do have more fillers than owners would like.

Royal Canin

They offer breed-specific formulas that can help address potential health concerns.

The food is made from high-quality ingredients that owners say keep their dogs healthy.

They have kibble tailored to the different snout sizes of various breeds.

The consistency of kibble size can vary between bags.

This brand is often more expensive than other options.

If you have a dog breed that’s prone to certain health problems, Royal Canin is one of the only food brands that offers breed-specific formulas. For instance, the Royal Canin Breed Health Nutrition French Bulldog Dry Dog Food has a unique kibble shape that’s easier for short snouts to chew, and it also helps reduce gas and stool odor with highly digestible proteins. There are also options to address specific health concerns, whether it’s allergies or digestive woes, and the brand has kibble tailored to different dog sizes, as well. 

Overall, the dog owners in our survey give Royal Canin top marks when it comes to ingredient quality, noting that the food has helped to keep their dogs healthy. However, one common complaint is that the kibble size sometimes varies between bags, and the food is notably more expensive than other brands.

Kirkland Signature

Buy at Costco.com

This brand rated the highest in terms of value satisfaction in our survey.

The food comes in big bags, making it easy to buy in large quantities.

Dog owners are happy with the ingredient quality, especially for the price.

Because it’s mostly sold at Costco, this brand isn’t the most accessible.

The brand doesn’t sell many wet food varieties.

If you regularly shop at Costco, Kirkland dog food is the wholesale club’s in-house brand, and it’s known for being both high-quality and easy on your wallet. This dog food comes in large 40-pound bags (ideal if you have a big dog or multiple pets), and dog owners love that it uses healthy ingredients like sweet potato, lentils, and salmon. Among our survey respondents, the consensus is that dogs like the taste of this food, and the price is great for the quality — in fact, it was the highest-rated brand in terms of value satisfaction. 

There isn't a huge amount of variety of food options available from this brand, but you will find formulas for different life stages, including puppies, small breeds, and older dogs. However, keep in mind that Kirkland mostly makes dry kibble and only offers two basic wet food options. 

Purina Beneful

The dry food contains a mix of kibble shapes and textures to keep dogs interested.

This brand is reasonably priced and easy to find in stores.

Owners wish the food contained more meaty pieces.

Does your dog get bored with their dry food easily? Then you may want to try a brand like Beneful, which is made by Purina. The brand’s dry foods contain a mixture of kibble shapes and textures, and survey respondents say this helps to keep their dogs interested and slow down the pace of eating. Plus, the brand is quite affordable and easy to find. 

Whether your pup prefers wet or dry food, Beneful has plenty of options for you to choose from, including several flavors that may help entice picky eaters. There are small-breed-specific products, such as the Beneful IncrediBites Small Dog , as well as multiple wet food flavors and consistencies. 

This dog food has clean, high-quality ingredients without fillers.

The brand is family-run, and its products are made in the USA.

This brand can be hard to find, and it’s generally quite expensive.

While somewhat of a specialty brand, Fromm is worth considering if you want a convenient dry food that offers only the best quality ingredients. This brand is known for its clean, high-quality formulas, which contain minimal fillers. According to our survey, people also love that Fromm has been family-owned for five generations and manufactures all its dog food domestically. The main drawbacks, however, are that the brand isn’t carried by many retailers and is pricey, but that’s often the case with high-quality foods. 

The brand’s dry food is inexpensive, earning it a top score in terms of value.

Dog owners say their pets like the taste of this food and don’t waste any of it.

This brand doesn’t use the highest quality ingredients.

Pedigree offers budget-friendly food that’s a hit with dogs, according to our survey. It was a top-scoring brand in terms of value, as you can buy bigger quantities (like this 30-pound bag ) for half the price of many other brands. People also like that this brand is widely available and can often be found in retail stores. 

This brand sells both wet and dry food, with formulas for different breed sizes and common issues like weight management, and it also offers a variety of dog treats. Dog owners report that their pets enjoy the taste of this food, as evidenced by the empty bowls left behind. However, Pedigree isn’t the best in terms of ingredient quality, in part due to its lower price point — many of its foods have corn as the first ingredient, followed by unnamed protein sources. 

Things to Consider Before Buying Dog Food

Nutritional adequacy .

The first thing you’ll want to consider when selecting dog food is whether it’s a complete source of nutrition for your pet. “It’s important to ensure that you are feeding a complete and balanced diet — this information should be readily available on the label,” says Dr. Ostermeier. 

You’ll want to look for the product’s Nutritional Adequacy Statement, which indicates that the food meets the standards set by the AAFCO. This statement should say it’s a “complete and balanced” source of nutrition, which means it contains all the appropriate nutrients for your pet in the right ratios. It will also indicate what life stage the food is intended for, as puppies and older dogs have different needs than adult animals. 

There are several types of dog food available today, including dry food (kibble), wet food, and even some fresh food options. There are benefits to each type, so you’ll need to decide what will work best for you and your pet.

• Dry Food: This is often the most affordable and easiest to store, but it’s highly processed and may contain a lot of fillers, depending on the brand you choose.
• Wet Food: Cans of wet food can be more appetizing to picky eaters, as it’s more flavorful. “The benefit of wet foods is that they are high in moisture and in general, less processed than dry foods,” explains Dr. Ostermeier. “The increased moisture is hydrating and helps to keep their kidneys happy.” Several of the dog food brands that made our list, including Blue Buffalo , have wet and dry options.
• Fresh Foods: Fresh foods often have similar benefits, as the ingredients are just lightly cooked, but these foods are harder to store, as they must be kept refrigerated. If you're looking for fresh food for your dog, Freshpet was a favorite among our survey respondents.
• Raw and Homemade Diets: These are also rising in popularity, but it’s important to work with your veterinarian to ensure these types of food are nutritionally adequate for your pet. “If you are interested in feeding alternative diets such as raw, gently cooked, or home-prepared, I recommend consulting with an integrative veterinarian or veterinary nutritionist,” says Dr. Ostermeier.

Dog food can vary substantially in price, so it’s important to find a dog food that fits into your budget. Consider how much food you’ll need to feed your dog each day, as this will determine how long each container of food will last — in general, larger dogs will go through food faster than smaller pups. You may also want to look at whether the food comes in different package sizes, as it’s often more budget-friendly to buy larger bags (assuming you have space to store them).

How We Tested

To find the best dog food brands available today, we surveyed 407 dog owners about the diets they feed their furry friends.

• Survey Categories: Each respondent noted what they like and don’t like about their dog’s food, and we asked them to score the product on its ease of use, engagement (a.k.a., whether their dog likes it), quality of ingredients, and overall value. We compiled all the scores and selected the top dog food brands based on their input.
• Results: Based on the survey, the top-scoring dog food brands were Hill’s Science Diet and Freshpet, both of which earned an average score of 4.3 out of 5. The next highest-scoring brands were Fromm and Blue Buffalo, both with a score of 4.2.

If all goes well, as you increase the new food, decrease the amount of the old food until you are feeding 100 percent the new diet.”

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
