You don’t have to travel far to experience hundreds of exotic animals from around the world. Just 50 miles south of Atlanta creatures roam freely throughout this 500 acre park.

Description

Just north of Pine Mountain, GA off Hwy 27 you will encounter one of the most unique experiences of your life. Animals! Exotic animals! LOTS of exotic animals!

An up close and personal adventure!

Wild Animal Safari features two different ways of seeing these exotic animals. The Serengeti Adventure is a 3-mile drive through section where you will have a chance not only to see, but also to feed and touch animals from around the world. Designed to embrace a natural open setting, the drive will bring you face to face with animals such as giraffes, zebras, buffalo, camels, a rhino and many more. You have the choice of touring through in your own vehicle, a rental van, or the guided tour bus (seasonal).

What’s a liger?

Once you have finished the Serengeti Adventure, take a casual stroll through The Walk-About, our walk-through section featuring bears, hyenas, alligators, monkeys, and even ligers. What’s a liger? You’ll have to come and see for yourself.

Your ticket is good for the whole day, so take advantage of the opportunity to see different animals on each trip. Take a break in between trips and visit the Safari Café for a bite to eat and load up on themed and animal related gifts in our gift shop, The Outpost.

Yes. You may experience the Drive-Thru Safari as many times as you would like during your visit! Many guests enjoy the Drive-Thru first, then visit the Walkabout Adventure Zoo™, eat lunch while enjoying the nature and amenities of the park, and then return to the Drive-Thru Safari again before leaving for the day.

Animals are typically most active in the morning hours of 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, then again in the late afternoon from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.  Animals are typically less hungry in the afternoon.  Every visit is a different experience.

  • We recommend throwing the park-provided animal feed to the ground in front of the animal in the Drive-Thru Safari. This will entice the animals to come close to your vehicle.  DO NOT hand feed the zebras, EMUs, or the ostrich.  These species may accidentally bite thinking your fingers are food.
  • Feeding animals is optional and at your own risk.

No, these animals are not pets. For the safety of our guests, direct contact is prohibited.

No. As stated above, we cannot guarantee that all the animals will be on the road at all times of the day.  You can return to the Drive-Thru Safari as many times as you would like (before one hour prior to park closing) to finish your feed!

Walkabout Adventure Zoo TM

Our park has a large and diverse variety of animals on exhibit for you to enjoy. We also have various off-exhibit animals that may make brief appearances when appropriate. To promote exceptional animal husbandry and welfare, there may be times when certain animals are not on display.

The Walkabout Adventure Zoo ™  takes a minimum of one hour to complete. However, it often takes longer depending on your interests, feeding experience participation, and time spent reading the provided information about the individual animals. It all depends on the preferences of your party and where they would like to go.

Guests may enter the Walkabout Adventure Zoo ™  any time from park opening to park closing. However, all guests must exit the park by park closing. Refunds will not be provided for failure to allocate enough time to complete both sections of the park.

  • Participating in Animal Feeding Experiences is elective and at your own risk.
  • You may feed park-provided lettuce to the giraffes and Sulcata tortoises. Lettuce fed to the tortoises should be placed on the ground in front of them in lieu of feeding them by hand.  Tortoises may accidentally snap little fingers if you get too close.  Lettuce is available for purchase in the Gift Shop or at the ticket counter.
  • You may feed the barnyard/farmyard animals small feed pellets from your hand provided that your hand is flat. Feed is available for purchase in the Gift Shop, at the ticket counter, or at coin-operated feeders in the Walkabout Adventure Zoo ™ .
  • Feeding animals is at your own risk.
  • No other animals in the park may be fed under any circumstances. The Walkabout Adventure Zoo ™  animals are not to be fed any feed from the Drive-Thru Safari.

Is there dog kennels available in the Safari?

Hi Candice. Yes, we do have dog kennels at the Pine Mountain Safari, Wild Animal Safari. Check in at the ticket building. Hope you have a great visit. www.animalsafari.com.

How ethical is this place? Meaning were the animals healthy, treated well, in nice living conditions, etc.

Seems like it. In the walkabout, each animal had a shaded area so they can hide from the sun. Some even had air conditioned room for them to go inside. They all had little play areas in their cages as well. As far as the actual safari, the animals… more

If you live in Georgia and haven't visited the Wild Animal Safari in Pine Mountain, GA. This is your sign to go. We had an unforgettable time here. I purchased my tickets in advance and choose to rent one of their vehicles. We arrived and hour early and walked around the walk-about. We checked in and feed the kids and waited for our car to be ready. As we drove through the park, we encountered bisons, emus, zebras, and many more. The highlight of the trip was watching my kids face light up when one of the animals walked over to be feed. Some things I recommend: - use the restroom before your drive - bring water - Rent their vehicles *** - wear gloves to avoid slobber *** - bring clorox wipes to wipe down the chairs and inside of the rental cars before getting inside *** - a camera to capture all the memories

A Family Hit! We had a blast exploring the wide variety of animals. The price was totally reasonable, and driving through the safari with my family was a highlight. Letting the kids feed the animals was a super cool experience - they absolutely loved it. We're definitely planning a return trip!

Wildly entertaining! I'm glad we did it. The kids had a blast and so did my husband and I! They had a nice assortment of animals and loved that they had lions. The giraffe looked so sad though, lol.

Overall, it was a nice outing. I took my kids there a few weeks ago. I was SOOOOO happy I could drive my own car, because those busses and vans looked dirty and HOTTTT (since they didn't have windows)! Lots of deer and bison; limited giraffes. My kids were scared to death of the ostrich that came to our window! I wish we'd bought more good though. Whatever you do.....don't buy the tshirts! I bought a L for me. After 2 washes, its now a S! $24 wasted! And such a cute design! Can't say I'll go back...but, one less thing off my Atlanta-to-do list!

wild animal safari park pine mountain ga

Saw this safari on TikTok and decided to take my little cousins here and it was so much fun !! It was fun interacting with these animals, very unique experience.

Animals

We have been to wild animal safari twice now. Both times have been so much fun. First visit was a few years back. This year we decided it would probably be a good idea to buy a season pass since we hope to visit more often. After this second visit we know for sure we will be back. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Even if they didn't know the answer to something they would reach out to someone for an answer for us. The animals were so pleasing to watch and look at. We didn't have enough time to walk around with a little one so we will make sure to give ourself enough time next time and to buy plenty of food for our animal friends I would recommend to anyone.

My Honda Civic Sedan became the Honda Civic Safari when we spent the first half of the day at Wild Animal Safari in Pine Mountain, GA. A unique experience where you drive through and feed the animals through your car window. So a couple pointers to remember if you go: 1. Keep calm. You will get slobbered on. 2. Car windows all the up or all the way down. You gotta commit. 3. Don't feed the ostriches by hand. Trust me, just don't.

7 Best Destinations For Wildlife Spotting in Georgia

Georgia is a delightful state to go to for wildlife. Because of its varied landscapes, from swamps to beaches and lofty forest-covered hills, and its generally temperate climate, a huge variety of animals and plant species also call the Peach Tree State home. Salamanders , armadillos , raptors such as Bald Eagles and Red-Tailed Hawks , and black bears , you name it. Today, we will take a deeper dive into some of Georgia's prime destinations for wildlife spotting. Wherever you are in this vast southern state, we can almost guarantee you that there is a notable location nearby. Break out the binoculars, get your camera set up, and let's embark on an adventure of discovery down south.

Stone Mountain

Stone Mountain Park.

Stone Mountain Park in Georgia is a unique geological wonder with a vast terrain compromising lush forests, granite outcrops, and lakes, all providing habitats for a variety of animal species. Explore the huge granite mountain that gives the park its name or the surrounding woods on the trails that spiderweb throughout it.

Visitors can spot native wildlife such as white-tailed deer , eastern gray squirrels , and wild turkeys roaming freely throughout this park in north-central Georgia, a short drive east of Atlanta . Birdwatchers also flock here to observe numerous species of birds, including red-tailed hawks, woodpeckers, and Carolina chickadees. As far as reptiles go, you may encounter eastern box turtles and various snake species, while amphibian sightings include American bullfrogs in and around the lakes and streams found here. The park's water bodies also host other forms of aquatic life, from fish like Bluegill and Largemouth bass (Georgia's official state fish) to amphibious creatures like turtles and frogs.

Okefenokee Swamp

White Egrets in Swamp Habitat at Okefenokee Swamp Area.

This expansive wetland ecosystem of Okefenokee Swamp Park is home to many animal species. Observe iconic creatures such as American alligators and black bears in their natural habitat from various trails and viewpoints. Next, turn your eyes to the sky and be thrilled by the opportunity to spot some of the beautiful bird species that live here, including herons, egrets, and ibises, soaring through the air or wading in the marshes.

The park's warm, fresh waters are full of life, from turtles and fish to amphibians like frogs and salamanders. Exploring the park's trails and waterways gives you the chance to encounter a variety of reptiles, mammals, and birds, providing a broad glimpse into Georgia's biodiversity.

Whether by guided boat tours or self-guided hikes, there are many ways to discover Okefenokee Swamp Park throughout the year. The town of Waycross is nearby to provide amenities either before or after your trip here.

Grand Bay Wildlife Management Area

Grand Bay Wildlife Management Area.

Grand Bay Wildlife Management Area, situated just north of the city of Valdosta, is an exceptional place for wildlife spotting on the far southern edge of Georgia. This is largely true due to the lofty observation tower at the center of this park. This expansive tract of protected land encompasses a variety of habitats, including pine forests, wetlands, and open grasslands, providing a haven for a wide range of animal species.

Find native animals such as white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and cottontail rabbits, which thrive off of the various plants that grow here. Raptors like red-tailed hawks and Barred owls, as well as songbirds like eastern bluebirds and northern cardinals, can also be spotted throughout. The wetland areas within the management area support the diversity of aquatic life here, from turtles and frogs to various fish species.

Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area

Great blue heron found when hiking near the Chattahoochee River.

Spanning a diverse range of habitats along the Chattahoochee River , the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is known for both outdoor recreational activities and viewing native species in their natural environment in this area a little north of Atlanta.

The animals that call this park home include white-tailed deer, gray foxes, and eastern cottontail rabbits. Walk the park's wooded trails and riverbanks and you are bound to encounter something. A huge amount of waterfowl, herons, and songbirds such as cardinals and warblers, are also common sights. The Chattahoochee River itself supports many species of aquatic life, including bass and catfish, as well as turtles and even river otters !

On top of boat rentals available within this park, there is a selection of campgrounds in which you can stay the night for an extended stay.

Fort Frederica National Monument

Remnants of Fort Frederica which the British used to defend against the Spanish.

Fort Frederica National Monument has more than just historical intrigue—it's also an important natural environment for wildlife in Georgia. This fort, which once protected British colonies from attacks by the Spanish Empire , is located on the southeastern coastline of the state, near Florida.

Amidst preserved colonial structures, keep your eyes open for native species thriving in the surrounding landscape. Deer, raccoons, and even armadillos are among the mammals that call this area home, often seen darting among the trees or grazing in the open spaces. Bald eagles to the lively Carolina wren can also be spotted soaring above, perhaps adding a bit of a patriotic feel to this already historically important American landmark.

Fort Frederica's coastal location is also a prime habitat for marine life, including fish, crabs, and shrimp. If you're hungry after a long day of exploring, be sure to grab some fresh and delicious seafood in the nearby town of St Simons Island .

Cumberland Island National Seashore

Wildlife on Cumberland Island National Seashore.

Cumberland Island National Seashore, located off the coast of Georgia, is an idyllic place to escape to for a weekend by the water. The plethora of ecosystems within the park's borders, ranging from maritime forests to marshlands, supports many species that can be seen.

Visitors to the island may encounter iconic creatures such as wild horses, wild turkeys, and armadillos traversing the wooded trails. Ospreys, wood storks, and painted buntings can be spotted in the coastal vegetation along the beaches here. Speaking of beaches, the island's expansive beaches provide nesting grounds for loggerhead sea turtles, while its marshes and estuaries are homes for fish, crabs, and wading birds.

Stafford Beach is a popular place to lounge and have a picnic by the ocean, while manmade attractions such as the Little Cumberland Island Lighthouse to the northern tip of the island and the Ice House Museum to the south will help fill your day with activity.

Blairsville

A spicebush swallowtail butterfly on the Helton Creek Falls trail, near Blairsville, Georgia.

Sitting in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains , Blairsville is a gateway to not only the famed Appalachian Trail but also the nature-filled lakes and parklands surrounding it.

Start by taking a short drive outside of town to Lake Nottely, a large reservoir where fish, turtles, and a huge assortment of amphibians like salamanders and frogs can be spotted. To the other side of town is the Brasstown Bald, a forested hill with a clearing on the top that is the highest point of the Appalachian Trail in the state of Georgia and an amazing viewpoint from which to go birding. Look out for avian species such as Red-Tailed hawks, owls, and Eastern Bluebirds. On your way to the top, whether you embark on the tough hike up or drive there, you may be able to see black bears, a variety of grouse, woodcocks, turkeys, and other forest-dwelling animals.

Experience Georgia's Wildside

As you can see, every corner of Georgia is ripe for wildlife viewing as long as you know where to look. We hope that this list can be the start of an epic nature-based road trip throughout the Peach Tree State. Regardless of where you head, remember that many of these destinations are delicate to human activity and that you should be following the best practices of nature conservation, namely staying on marked trails, not littering, and not disturbing the wildlife when you visit.
