If you are driving to Southampton, then you will need to find somewhere to park your car while on your cruise. In this post i’ll run though all the parking options if you are going on a cruise from Southampton. (Bookmark this post for future reference and feel free to share with anyone you know sailing from Southampton!).

Best parking in Southampton

Put simply, the best parking option for you will usually depend on a number of factors such as, cost, location, security, and whether you require accessible parking or electric vehicle charging options. My first tip is to find out which terminal your cruise ship is departing from to decide where its best to park.

A great Facebook group to follow is: Car Parking Tips where you can ask questions and find reviews.

What are the different car parking options in Southampton?

Car parking for cruisers in Southampton fall into the following categories.

Official Port Parking

  • Public Carparks
  • Park & Cruise / ‘Meet & Greet’ services
  • Hotels with cruise parking included
  • Alternative Car Parks

Official port parking is the nearest and most convenient car parks to each cruise terminal and as a result they tend to be the most expensive.

But they also very secure and popular so they will book up early and there are rarely spaces available on the day. So, it’s best to always book in advance.

Cheap cruise parking in Southampton

Your cruise fare may include complimentary parking and if so, you will be provided with a voucher code to book on the relevant provider’s site.

Technically there is only one official cruise car parking in the port of Southampton ( ABP ) but it only covers certain terminals (Horizon and City)

Best Parking - horizon terminal in Southampton

CPS are technically a meet and greet service but are the port parking partner for Carnival Plc (P&O cruises, Princess Cruises, Cunard, etc) so could be considered as the ‘default’ port parking for terminals such as Ocean Cruise, Mayflower and QEII Cruise terminals.

Official port parking providers for different cruise lines in Southampton

The process for parking with ABP and CPS is slightly different. With CPS you’ll be directed to a specific lane outside the cruise terminal and a member of staff will book in your vehicle and carry out an inspection. You’ll then hand your keys over and be issued with a bar code receipt which you need to keep safe as you’ll need this to collect your keys when you return.

last minute cruise parking in Southampton

The booking in process can sometimes slow down the parking process with CPS, so it’s always best to leave a bit more time to take account for this before you check in.

Once your vehicle is booked in, you take all your luggage from your vehicle (porters are on hand to help you with trolleys and your luggage) and proceed to the terminal to check in. Don’t forget your passport and any medication!

A fully insured driver then takes your vehicle to a secure compound within the port (usually right next to the terminal). On return you’ll be directed from the terminal to the key collection point and be shows where your car is parked.

With ABP you’ll be directed to the relevant car park, park your car yourself and keep your keys with you for the duration of the cruise. There is no ‘booking in’ process.

Public Carparks for Cruise Parking in Southampton

Centrally located in Southampton, there are a good selection of public carparks which are just a short taxi ride to the cruise terminals – some are even within walking distance.

cheapest secure cruise parking in Southampton

These barrier-controlled carparks can sometimes be reserved in advance and will have a Park Mark and CCTV and are one of the cheaper options for parking.

Some of the main barrier-controlled Car Parking in Southampton Include:

  • Triangle Parking
  • West Quay Car Park
  • Eastgate Street Multi-Storey Car Park
  • NCP Southampton Portland Terrace
  • Grosvenor Square MSCP Car Park
  • Bedford Place Multi-Storey Car Park

You may or may not be comfortable leaving your car in a public car park for two weeks while on a cruise. I have never had any problems and have been using one of the car parks above since 2021. Many of the hotels in Southampton city centre recommend some of these car parks if you stay with them.

The car parks are centrally located so you can easily drop your bags off at the terminal first and then head to the car park, park your car and either walk back to your terminal or get a taxi (usually around £6-10).

This might be a little bit more of a hassle, but even with the taxi fare the cost savings compared to official port parking are quite significant.

The cheapest place to park in Southampton is the West Quay Shopping Centre multistorey. It’s conveniently located and it’s about a 15-minute walk from the ocean cruise terminal and even less from the City and Horizon Terminals and is £6 per day to park.

Park & Cruise Services in Southampton

If you don’t want the hassle or finding a space to park or don’t want to leave it until the last day, then you might want to look at Park and Cruise as an option. This car parking option is slightly cheaper than the official port parking, but it’s not the cheapest option.

cruise parking options in Southampton penguin parking

Some of the car parks where you drop your vehicle off are usually located slightly further away from the port and include two-way coach transfers to the cruise terminals. This is a great option if you don’t want to drive into Southampton Docks – which can get busy on embarkation/ disembarkation days – especially in the high season.

Park and Cruise services usually require you to hand your car keys over to the parking provider. So, if you’re uncomfortable with this, then it might be best to choose a different option.

Some of the more reputable providers are:

  • Penguin Parking
  • Cruise Azure Parking
  • Portside Meet & Greet
  • Parking4Cruises

For these providers you book online in advance, drive to their designated car park area to drop off your car (this might be at the port or on a separate site) and then you leave your keys with them.

AirLynx parking in Southampton reviews

You are then transported with your luggage to the cruise terminal in a minibus transfer and on your return you and your luggage are picked up from the port and returned to the car park where your car keys are handed back to you.

Costs vary throughout the season but tend to range between £160 for 1 week or £260 for 2 weeks.

Meet and Greet Services for Cruise Parking in Southampton

It’s very similar to the park and cruise options; You head to the short stay carpark at the cruise terminal you’re leaving from, meet with company’s representative, hand over your keys and then your car will be driven to and parked in a secure compound and then returned to the short stay car park the day you return from your cruise. Here your keys will be handed back to you.

Some of the providers above also offer a ’Meet and Greet’ service. This is a good option If you just want to drive to port and be able to drop your car off and pick your car up at port rather than must take a minibus transfer.

Prices for meet and greet service vary but are around £100 per week.

It’s worth noting that you may still need to call the company when you embark your ship and wait for the representative to meet you to hand over your keys. There have been some recent incidents where individual have been waiting for prolonged periods of time at port before being handed over their keys, so it is best to do your research.

Alternative Cruise Parking in Southampton

Another option is alternative parking. These can range from private driveways, gated parking or valet parking services.

The cost location and security features will vary wildly from provider to provider and you may or may not need to leave your keys. You may also need to factor in a taxi to get you to and from the port.

Two of the most popular sites to book alternative parking on is your parking space and just park.

I’ve used your parking space on many occasion to book the Holiday Inn at Herbert Walker Avenue and this cost me around 90 pounds for two weeks. As I said the security at these sites varies so cheque out what you’re comfortable with for the price. But on the whole they can be much cheaper than any other option. The cheapest I’ve seen is £12 65 for a week

Stay & cruise hotel parking deals in southampton.

If you want a totally stress free option then you can go for a stay park and cruise approach. Many hotels in and around Southampton offer deals where your accommodation the night before the cruise is packaged up with breakfast transfers to and from the port And up to 15 days parking.

Cruise and hotel parking deals in Southampton

These are really convenient packages and can sometimes be comparable to or just a little bit more expensive than parking with ABP or CPS. So if you need parking and accommodation this could be a cost effective option to add into the mix and it’s worth doing a price comparison.

To save you the hassle of looking for which hotels offer this service here’s a list of the state park and cruise hotels and I’ve also split them out further in my blog post to those which are in the centre of Southampton and Those which are a little further out. As even booking links on my post to make this super easy for you to

Regardless of how you’re travelling to Southampton my firm recommendation is to arrive in Port the day before you cruise. Only reduces the stress levels of the day of your cruise but it also ensures that you don’t fall foul of last minute hassles or delays which could in the worst case make you miss your ship.

There’s a cluster of hotels quite near to the city and Horizon Cruise Terminals just off the a 33 and also convenient for the West Quay Shopping Centre, coach and railway stations but here’s a rundown of all the closest hotels to the cruise terminals and where they all are located on the map below.

The best cruise parking in Southampton

by - 21 Jan 2019

If your cruise is sailing from Southampton and you plan to travel to the port by car, you’ll need to arrange your parking in advance. There are several options when it comes to port parking at Southampton. In this article, we’ll help you to decide which is the best for you.

Let us arrange it for you

When you book your holiday with us at Cruise118.com, you’ll benefit from the services of a dedicated and experienced Cruise Concierge. They will help to plan as much of your holiday as you like, including parking.

This is the easiest and also the cheapest way to arrange parking, all of which can be done by requesting parking when you make your booking or by calling them at any point afterwards to add this on.

Our Cruise Concierge team can book parking for a number of car parks, either right by the cruise terminal in view of the ship or, if you prefer, a short transfer away with park and ride.

We can access the cheapest available prices, with parking at the terminal costing as little as £8.63* per day when you book with your Cruise Concierge.

Book parking yourself online

If you’d prefer to look over the options online and find a great deal on parking yourself, we recommend holidayextras.co.uk .

On this website, you can access all the same great deals that our Cruise Concierge team can, at the same prices. You’ll be able to choose from a range of car parks both at Southampton’s cruise terminal and offsite with park and ride included.

Other options for booking parking include abparking.co.uk , which is the official cruise parking for the port of Southampton. This can cost a little more and is only available for certain cruise lines.

Another option is cruiseparking.co.uk . They offer extra services such as topping up your fuel tanks and vital fluids, as well as secure parking right on the docks.

Book a hotel with parking

There are many hotels in Southampton which offer free parking and sometimes even free transfers to the port when you stay for one night before your cruise. The price of these can often be cheaper than a week’s parking, so essentially, you’re staying for free and even saving money in many cases!

If you’re travelling for more than two or three hours to reach Southampton, arriving the night before can mean that you start your holiday relaxed and refreshed and, importantly, there’s no chance of you getting stuck in traffic and missing your departure.

Here at Cruise118.com , our Cruise Concierge team have access to all the best deals on hotels in Southampton with free parking.

You can book your pre-cruise hotel when you book your cruise, or at any point afterwards. We can find the best hotel deal for you, or if you prefer to take control, have a look on TripAdvisor for one that you like and we’ll book it for you at the very best price.

Get free parking included in your cruise

From time to time, some cruise lines offer incentives such as free port parking when you book your cruise during their promotional period.

As not everyone needs parking, there are usually alternatives available such as free coach travel to the port or free on-board spending money.

If you’re booking one of these free parking deals, it makes sense to look into the cost of parking before deciding whether to accept the offer of free parking or to accept on-board spending money instead which can be spent on drinks, speciality dining or even in the ship’s boutiques.

Consider your luggage

When considering which type of Southampton cruise parking is best, it’s important to consider your mobility and also the amount of luggage you have.

When you park at the terminal, a member of the car parking staff will take your luggage from your car boot for you and it will be delivered all the way to your stateroom. This is ideal for anyone with limited mobility, small children or with more luggage than they can manage themselves.

If you book off-site parking which includes a taxi or minibus transfer, you will need to be able to manage your luggage yourself until you arrive at the port.

Booking your cruise parking

I Tested 6 Car Parks Used for Southampton Cruises (Comparison, Prices, REAL REVIEW)

If you have booked a cruise that sails from Southampton, you may be looking for somewhere safe to park your car whilst you are away.

There are lots of different options.

In this article, we explore some of the more popular options and talk about my, and my family’s, first-hand experiences with these car parks.

I have personally used both official car parks, third party car parks, car parks located in Southampton centre and driveway parking.

Southampton Car Parking – Options Compared

If you want the most convenient option, then “official” cruise car parks, CPS and AB parking are by far the most convenient. However, this convenience comes at a cost, and they are usually the most expensive options.

If cost is important to you, you would be sensible to research other options! I am able to walk and don’t need help with my luggage, so I tend to try and go for a cheaper option where possible.

It is also important to make sure that the car park you choose is safe. Many of the car parks listed have the” Park Mark” award, which means that the car park is regularly assessed by Police Assessors to make sure that it is secure and safe.

To work out the best option for you, you need to know the terminal your cruise ship will be sailing from. This should be on your cruise paperwork.

Cruise lines are not tied to any particular cruise terminal. If a cruise line has more than one ship in port on the same day, they will be docked at separate terminals.

Southampton Cruise Terminals:

  • City Cruise Terminal. Berth 101, Western Docks, Southampton, SO15 1BS.
  • Horizon Cruise Terminal. Horizon Cruise Terminal, Berth 102 Southampton, Southampton, SO15 1AW.
  • Mayflower Cruise Terminal. Berth 106, Dock Gate 10, Southampton, SO15 1HJ.
  • Ocean Cruise Terminal Southampton. Berth 46 Cunard Road, Southampton, SO14 3QN.
  • QEII Cruise Terminal. Berth 38/39 Dock Gate 4, Cunard Rd, Southampton SO14 3QN

Official Cruise Port Car Parks

Official Car Parks can be expensive, particularly in peak season!

These two parking companies are official car parks for Southampton. They have car parks within the port/dockside area.

What makes it a little complicated is that you have to pick the right car parking company for the cruise line you are sailing with.

AB Parking serve :

  • Celebrity Cruises
  • Disney Cruise Line
  • Marella Cruises
  • Oceania Cruises
  • Royal Caribbean
  • Saga Cruises.

I have used AB parking multiple times, sometimes I have booked it myself, and other times, it has been included as part of the cost of the cruise. I have never had a problem, and it is VERY convenient. The only downside is it can be a more expensive option – particularly in peak season. I would book again with them anytime .

Find out more about AB Parking here:

Southampton Cruise Parking Options – AB Car Parks (Real Review and Guide)

AB Parking taken from my car

CPS Carparks serve:

It would be hard to find a more convenient option than CPS Parking, it is right by the ship. I have used this company multiple times. I wouldn’t have any hesitation in booking with them again, but it has to be said, this is a more expensive option, particularly in peak season.

Find out more about CPS Parking here:

CPS Car Parks – Southampton Cruise Parking Options

Non-Offical Port Options

Triangle car park.

If you wish to save money, you may wish to look at other car parks. Triangle car park is very close to the Ocean terminal where P&O sail from.

We have used Triangle Parking three or four times when going on family cruises. It is important to check which cruise terminal you are sailing from, to see if this is a good option for you.

It is a good 20-minute walk if you are sailing from the QEII Terminal, but if you are sailing with P&O it is very close! We have never had any issues with this carpark, and it is a more affordable option than the “official” car parks, run by AB and CPS Parking.

To see if this would be a good option for you, click here :

Triangle Car Park – Southampton Cruise Parking Options

disney cruise line southampton parking

Quayside Multi-Storey Car Park

Another car park you may wish to consider is the Quayside Multi-Storey car park. This is around a twenty or thirty-minute walk from the cruise terminals – but is probably the cheapest option available, as they charge a flat rate of £5 per 24 hours!

Quayside Multi-Storey Carpark is attached to a shopping centre about a twenty-minute walk from the terminals. I have quite a small car and am perfectly able to drag my wheeled suitcase to the terminal. There is no pre-booking, which could be a problem in peak season. For me, it is a good, cheap option – but I fully appreciate that it is far too inconvenient for many others.

Find out all about Quayside Multi Storey Car Park here:

Cruise Port Parking, Southampton: West Quay Multi-Storey Car Park (Prices & Review)

west quay southampton parking

Airlynx Park and Ride

There is a park-and-ride option available with Airlynx. Again, this is a cheaper option than using the port’s official car parks – but you need to leave time to park your car and make the transfer. It’s actually only 5 minutes away from the cruise terminal.

I have used Airlynx Park and Ride only once, and it was very easy. You need to allow more time as you need to park and then be bused to your terminal – very much like you would do at an airport. I would certainly consider using them again.

Find out all about this “Park and Ride” option here:

Airlynx Parking – Southampton Cruise Parking Options (Real Review and Guide)

Rent Someone’s Driveway!

Use specially designed Apps to find a private driveway to park on – at around half the price of a conventional car park.

I have used this option multiple times, and actually have favourite driveways in Southampton I like to park on. You need to do your research to find a convenient and safe driveway for your car. Look at the distance from the driveway to your cruise terminal, and make sure you are able to walk that distance, with all your luggage. If you can walk, this is a really cost-effective way to park your car. I will definitely be booking driveway parking again.

To find out all about this cost-effective option, click below.

Southampton Cruise Parking – Parking On Someone’s Private Driveway – Via an App

Meet and Greet Parking

You are met dockside by a company representative, who takes your car and parks it elsewhere, in a secure parking lot away from the port.

I have never personally used this service, but it gets excellent reviews online. If I am travelling with my family, we tend to travel in my Dad’s larger car. He is not keen on someone else driving it away, and the car being parked somewhere he hasn’t seen. If I’m driving my car I tend to go for cheaper options. If you are happy for the company to just take your car from you and drive it away, it is a very convenient option.

Find out all about Meet and Greet parking in the post below:

Meet and Greet Parking – Southampton Cruise Parking Options

Southampton Hotels with Cruise Parking

This is one option that I, or members of my family, have never used! If you live far enough away from Southampton to consider driving down the day before and staying overnight, you may want to try a “Stay and Cruise Package.”

Many people find that this option is great for them!

If you have to drive some distance to Southampton, it makes sense to travel the day before and stay overnight. This avoids stress in case of any accidents or delays on the roads. If you are staying in a Southampton hotel, and it offers a cruise parking deal, it would be worth looking into as it could be very convenient to just leave your car there.

Cruise parking and long stay parking

Southampton welcomes many visitors who need cruise parking or long stay parking for other purposes like travelling to the Isle of Wight or staying with friends or relatives.

You can park for longer periods at several barrier controlled multi-storey car parks in Southampton. See below for details about our Bedford Place, Eastgate Street and Grosvenor Square car parks. These charge only £5 per day after the first 24 hour charging period as part of a single stay.

Cruise parking prices

On your return, simply insert your ticket into pay machines as normal and the charge will be calculated automatically.

Travelling onwards to your cruise terminal

Travelling onwards from your chosen car park to the cruise terminal or ferry terminal is straightforward. For example, cruise or ferry passengers who have parked in Eastgate Street, there is a taxi rank on the High Street, two minutes' walk from the car park.

Map showing the location of Eastgate car park and the taxi rank on High street. A dotted line runs West from the car park, along Eastgate Street to High Street, then heading North along High Street before the junction with East Street

Other cruise parking services

Cruise customers are urged to carefully research third-party operators before making a booking for parking on land other than the port. Cruise & Passenger Services provide a park and cruise scheme within the port.

Advice when researching providers

When researching providers, cruise customers should:

  • Carefully read the terms and conditions to ensure that the service offered provides you the safety, security, and assurances you require
  • Pay close attention to any limitations and exclusions, such as liability regarding Fixed Penalty Notices, cancellation, damage, theft, disconnection of trackers/dash cams, towing and impounding
  • Ensure the company you use holds the appropriate insurance should your vehicle be damaged, lost or stolen
  • Ensure you have the address of where your car will be parked while on your cruise. If your car will be parked on private land such as a supermarket, hotel, or residential parking, contact the landowner to ensure the company has their permission to store your car on their land

The 5 best destinations you can visit on a Disney Cruise Line ship

I s a voyage on a Disney Cruise Line ship on your bucket list? You'll find a growing number of options when it comes time to pick an itinerary.

While the cruising arm of Disney has long focused mostly on voyages to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, with year-round sailings to those destinations out of Florida, it also now offers a relatively wide range of seasonal sailings to Alaska, the Mexican Riviera, Bermuda, Europe and Canada.

The family-friendly cruise brand, notably, is expanding its footprint worldwide as it adds four new vessels in quick succession.

For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Already, the first of those ships, the 2,508-passenger Disney Wish , has arrived, boosting the size of the Disney fleet from four ships to five and allowing for more departures to the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe.

Two more sister vessels to Disney Wish are due to begin sailing in 2024 and 2025, respectively, allowing for further expansion in Disney cruise itineraries. In addition, the line has yet another new vessel coming in 2025 that isn't related to the other three. Called Disney Adventure, it's a one-off vessel originally designed for an Asian line , and it'll sail in Asia (perhaps catering mostly to Asian travelers; Disney has been mum so far on the target audience for it).

All these new ships arriving in quick succession will likely mean not just more departures to destinations where Disney Cruise Line is established but also sailings in new regions. For example, Disney has never before offered Asia sailings.

Here are our picks for the five best Disney cruise destinations you can visit with your family.

Caribbean and Bahamas

Disney Cruise Line's top destination has always been the Caribbean and the Bahamas. Since its founding more than two decades ago, the brand has based the bulk of its fleet in Florida to offer sailings to the islands. Port Canaveral, which is just an hour away from Disney's Orlando-area theme parks, has always been its biggest hub.

The line is particularly known for three- and four-night cruises out of Port Canaveral to Castaway Cay and Nassau in the Bahamas. These short getaways let families get a taste of Disney cruising that some Disney fans pair with a stay at Disney World.

The cruise line also regularly offers seven-night sailings out of Port Canaveral that visit Caribbean islands like St. Thomas and Tortola.

In recent years, Disney has also built up its Caribbean and Bahamas cruise offerings from other ports in Florida — initially Miami and, more recently, Fort Lauderdale. The ships the line has based in these ports typically offer four- and five-night sailings to Castaway Cay and one other port, such as Cozumel or Grand Cayman.

In addition, Disney is offering a growing number of Caribbean sailings out of Galveston, Texas, and New Orleans.

For 2024, the line will have four of its five ships — Disney Wish, Disney Dream, Disney Magic and Disney Fantasy — sailing to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of one of the above ports, with their home bases often shifting between them.

Disney Wish, which is Disney's newest ship, will be based in Port Canaveral year-round to operate the line's classic three- and four-night sailings to the Bahamas. These voyages are designed to be paired with a visit to nearby Disney World for a longer Disney vacation.

Disney Fantasy will also sail out of Port Canaveral to the Bahamas and Caribbean year-round, offering longer voyages.

Disney Dream will spend the start and the end of the year sailing short trips to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of Fort Lauderdale, with a stint in the middle of the year (from May to October) sailing in Europe.

Disney Magic will take Disney Dream's place sailing short trips to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of Fort Lauderdale from May to October. During the early and late months of the year, it'll sail out of Galveston.

Come 2025, Disney will have four ships — Disney Fantasy, Disney Wish, Disney Dream and Disney Magic — sailing three- to five-night getaways from Florida to the line's Bahamian destinations, including its new private beach destination Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point and its long-open private island Disney Castaway Cay. Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish will operate the trips from Port Canaveral, while Disney Dream and Disney Magic will sail from Fort Lauderdale.

Before taking up residence in Florida in April 2025, Disney Magic will also offer three months' worth of sailings out of Galveston, Texas, to Progreso and Cozumel in Mexico and Grand Cayman.

All of the 2025 sailings are already open for bookings.

Disney has cut back on voyages out of San Diego for 2024, after increasing its San Diego departures sharply in 2023. But it still offers several trips to Mexico out of the city on Disney Wonder.

For 2024, the 1,754-passenger vessel will offer a mix of three- to seven-night sailings to Mexico during March and April. Shorter three- and four-night sailings typically feature calls at Ensenada, Mexico, and California's Catalina Island. Seven-night sailings include calls at Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico.

Related: 11 ways to save money on a Disney cruise

The big factor driving Disney's cutbacks on sailings out of San Diego in 2024 is its new focus on voyages out of Australian ports. Disney Wonder will spend much of January and February sailing out of Australian ports and then return to the region in October for another season of Australia trips.

Disney offers a wide variety of itineraries in Europe every summer, from Mediterranean voyages out of Barcelona and Civitavecchia, Italy (the port for Rome), to Northern Europe sailings out of Southampton, England.

Ranging from seven to 11 nights, Disney's Europe voyages each year typically take place on a single ship that sails from multiple home ports throughout the season. For 2024, that ship will be the 2,500-passenger Disney Dream. The line has yet to announce which of its ships will go to Europe in 2025.

Typical for the shorter itineraries the line offers in Europe are seven-night sailings out of Civitavecchia to the Greek Islands. These sailings stop in Mykonos, Santorini and Crete in Greece, as well as Naples, Italy.

Related: 17 tips for sailing on Disney Cruise Line

A longer, 11-night itinerary starting in Civitavecchia and ending in Barcelona includes calls at Piraeus (the port for Athens), Santorini and Mykonos in Greece; Messina (on the island of Sicily), Naples and Livorno in Italy; and Toulon, France.

Among Northern Europe itineraries, Disney offers focused, weeklong sailings to Norway with calls at the Norwegian ports of Alesund, Nordfjordeid, Eidfjord and Stavanger.

Disney does not have a large presence in Alaska. The line sends just one ship to Alaska each year. Family-friendly cruise rivals Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line, by contrast, each send three ships to Alaska each year, and Norwegian Cruise Line sends five vessels to the destination.

Still, Disney fans won't feel like they're missing out. The one vessel Disney sends to Alaska each year, the 1,754-passenger Disney Wonder, stays for nearly the entire summer season, from late June to mid-September and offers a distinctly Disney take on The Last Frontier.

Always beginning and ending in Vancouver, British Columbia, and lasting seven nights, Disney's Alaska sailings typically include stops at three of these four Alaska ports: Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan and Icy Strait Point (which three vary by departure date). Itineraries also include a visit to Stikine Icecap, which is south of Juneau.

Related: 5 reasons Disney cruises aren't just for kids

These are fairly typical ports for an Alaska cruise. But the (extra-charge) activities that Disney has organized for the ports aren't always the same as what other lines offer.

As one might expect for Disney, the line has crafted some of its shore excursions in Alaska ports with special Disney touches, such as Disney character appearances at the Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp & Salmon Bake tour in Ketchikan. (Having done this one myself, I will say, for the record, that it's a little hokey; but it does get you a Disney character fix if that's your aim.)

Another shore excursion with a Disney touch is the outdoor Family Scavenger Hunt at Icy Strait Point, where participants join a local guide on a hunt for items such as clam shells and native plants, as well as a "special surprise" with a Disney theme.

Unlike many lines, Disney does not offer one-way sailings to Alaska from Vancouver or Seattle that can be paired with add-on land tours to create an extended sea-and-land Alaska vacation — something known as a "cruisetour." If that's what you're looking for, and you want to stick with a family-friendly line, you might want to consider the one-way cruisetour offerings from Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line.

Related: The ultimate Alaska cruise guide

Disney typically offers at least one and sometimes several cruises to Bermuda each fall, ranging from quick, five-night trips to longer, eight-night sailings.

For the year just ending (2023), the line offered four such sailings, and it's offered even more than that in certain years. Alas, for the coming year (2024), Disney currently does not have a single Bermuda sailing scheduled — a bit of an anomaly.

That said, we would expect Disney to bring back its Bermuda sailings for 2025 or 2026. It's been such a mainstay of the brand.

So ... stay tuned.

Bottom line

Family-friend Disney Cruise Line is a relatively small cruise brand, with just five ships (one of its biggest rivals in the family cruise market, Royal Caribbean, has 26 vessels). But that doesn't mean its itinerary choices are limited. The line offers regular sailings to the Caribbean and Bahamas, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Bermuda and Europe.

European cruise line Marella not coming back for second year at Port Canaveral

disney cruise line southampton parking

Marella Cruises , a European cruise line that sailed out of Port Canaveral during 2023, is not coming back this year, port officials say.

The cruise line was unique for the port. It sailed the Marella Discovery out of Port Canaveral for six months in 2023. But U.S. residents could not book a sailing on the ship. The sailings were just for people who booked a flight from Europe to Melbourne Orlando International Airport on an affiliated airline, TUI Airways. Both Marella and TUI Airways are part of the TUI Group, a major international travel company.

Port Canaveral CEO John Murray said the Marella Discovery was scheduled to sail only during 2023 out of Port Canaveral before switching to other itineraries. He said there were no issues between the port and the cruise line that triggered Marella to not sail from Port Canaveral this year.

More on Marella Discovery: 5 things to know about new Port Canaveral cruise ship, including why locals can't sail

The Marella Discovery had a total of 28 sailings out of Port Canaveral from May to November 2023, with a total of 85,533 passengers getting on or off the ship. Most of the sailings were seven nights in duration.

There were various itineraries from Port Canaveral. A typical one was called "American Dream," with stops in Charleston, South Carolina; New York City; and Freeport, Bahamas.

TUI's business model is to sell full-scale travel packages. So the cruise was part of a package that includes a flight from a United Kingdom airport to Melbourne Orlando International Airport. Some packages had an option to add a hotel stay in Florida.

The Marella Discovery currently is sailing seven-night "Ottoman Odyssey" cruises in the Eastern Mediterranean, sailing out of Marmaris, Turkey.

Marella Cruises is a relatively small cruise line, with five ships in operation.

The Marella Discovery also is relatively small, compared with some of the megaships based at Port Canaveral. The Discovery has 915 cabins; a double-occupancy capacity of 1,830 passengers; and a full capacity of 2,076 passengers. It is 866 feet long and has a gross tonnage of 69,130 tons.

It has sailed under various names over the years. It initially sailed for Royal Caribbean International as the Splendour of the Seas, starting in 1996. The ship was refurbished in 2016, after being acquired by TUI.

Port's cruise business booming

Despite not having a Marella ship in port this year, Port Canaveral's cruise business is going gangbusters.

For the first seven months of the current budget year (October 2023 through April 2024), the port's total cruise revenue, including from cruise passenger parking, is $92.43 million, which is $2.12 million above budget. During that time, there have been 553 cruise ship calls and 4.52 million multiday passengers getting on or off those ships.

Port Canaveral is the world's second-busiest cruise port. Five cruise lines base ships at Port Canaveral — Carnival, Disney, MSC, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean. Celebrity and Princess will add ships to the Port Canaveral lineup later this year.

A total of 21 multiday cruise ships will be based at Port Canaveral during at least part of this year.

TUI continues to fly to Melbourne

Despite not having a Marella ship at Port Canaveral, TUI is continuing its flights into and out of Melbourne Orlando International Airport for a third straight year in 2024.

The airport reported that a total of 242,542 passengers got on or off international flights in Melbourne in 2022, and 231,472 did so in 2023. The airport does not report passenger totals by airline, but airport officials said the vast majority of those were TUI passengers.

TUI's Melbourne service originates from English cities of Birmingham, London (London-Gatwick airport), Manchester and Newcastle, along with Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Glasgow, Scotland. This year's TUI flights started March 18, and will run through Oct. 26.

In 2025, TUI will add a new departure city for its flights to Melbourne — Dublin, Ireland.

The international travel giant flies U.K. travelers to U.S. destinations aboard Boeing 787 Dreamliners via vacation packages. The airline does not offer tickets for Melbourne passengers to fly to Europe.
