Discover CERN

Discover CERN

Accelerate: explore CERN’s particle accelerators

Scientists from all over the world join forces at CERN to answer profound questions about the Universe. Let them guide you through the laboratory!

An immersive scenography will transport you to the underground tunnels where the smallest building blocks of matter accelerate and collide. Discover machines of a remarkable scale and complexity.

The exhibitions are full of hands-on experiments for ages 8 and upwards. Play the control room game, pilot a robot and dig a tunnel. Explore the extraordinary technologies inside the Large Hadron Collider and, let’s see…will you score in a game of proton football?

Collide: find out how CERN studies particles

Beams of particles travel at almost the speed of light around the Large Hadron Collider, with billions colliding every second. Discover how the giant experiments record these particle collisions and how a global network of computers processes the data. Hear scientists’ stories about their work and find out how their technology can be used in hospitals. Use our headsets to take a virtual tour. Collaborate with other visitors to lower a piece of experiment underground. Design your own experiment to detect particles.

Science Gateway exhibitions are designed to be self-visited. Nevertheless CERN guides will be present to answer questions you may have. Do not hesitate to ask them.

Families and individual visitors

Families and individual visitors

Admission to CERN Science Gateway is free for everyone.

Families, individual visitors and small groups (fewer than 12 people) can freely access our three interactive exhibitions, as well as science shows and films (subject to availability). In addition, you can sign up for guided tours and lab workshops on a first-come, first-served basis. On Sundays, guided tours and lab workshops are exclusively reserved for families, individual visitors and small groups.

There is no online booking for families, individual visitors and small groups (less than 12 visitors). Groups (12 visitors and more) can and must book here .

Please note that visitors under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

How do you get access to CERN Science Gateway ?

When you arrive, open our exclusive web application (accessible only on CERN-Visitors Wi-Fi) and tell us a bit about yourself to get access to CERN Science Gateway's activities.

Which activities do you have access to?

Which activities require an additional booking.

The activities below can be booked on the day of your visit and on site only (1 hour in advance for labs and 2 hours in advance for guided tours, on our exclusive web application, available only on CERN-Visitors Wi-Fi).

Given very high demand and limited capacity, about only 10% of Science Gateway visitors will get a place in a guided tour or lab workshop. Bookings are available on a first-come, first-served basis, upon availability. It is advised to come early in the morning to increase your chances to get a booking. More guided tours for families and individual visitors are available during the Summer and on Sundays.
