The band will embark on the Tour of the Setting Sum across the globe for much of 2024

Sum 41 is officially saying farewell.

After the pop-punk icons revealed via social media in May 2023 that they were going their separate ways following the release of their upcoming album Heaven :x: Hell , the band has officially announced their final tour dates — including their last-ever performance.

The Canadian group featuring Deryck Whibley , Dave Baksh, Jason McCaslin, Tom Thacker and Frank Zummo shared they’ll be setting out on the Tour of the Setting Sum for much of 2024, and will play their last show in Toronto on Jan. 30, 2025, on Tuesday. Throughout the tour, they'll be saying goodbye to fans across the globe, as they're performing stints across Asia, North America and Europe.

After the “In Too Deep” band sets out on the Asian leg of their tour in March and plays a festival in Mexico at the end of the month, they’ll embark on the first portion of their U.S. tour starting on April 19 with a concert in Omaha, Nebraska. During the first U.S. leg, the group will hit major cities like Boston, New York City, Atlanta, Nashville and Philadelphia, before eventually wrapping up in Norfolk, Virginia on May 19.

The Grammy-nominated group will take their show across Europe through much of the summer, then complete their North American dates starting Aug. 1. From then until early October, the hitmakers will play in cities like San Francisco, Miami and Los Angeles, among others, concluding on Oct. 5 in Los Angeles.

They'll be bringing along L.A.-based ska band The Interrupters as support.

While Sum 41 was originally supposed to play their last gig on Nov. 23 in Nanterre, France, since the concert at the 35,000-capacity Paris La Défense Arena sold out, they’ve since announced another performance. On Jan. 30, 2025, the punk rockers will take to the stage together for the last time at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena.

To announce the Tour of the Setting Sum, the “Fat Lip” band shared a nostalgic teaser featuring fun clips from throughout their career that spans nearly three decades to Instagram .

Fans can expect Sum 41 to play both their classic pop-punk tunes, as well as new music, on their final tour, as it comes off the heels of the release of their last record. Heaven :x: Hell , their eighth studio album and final effort together, is due out March 29 (via Rise Records).

"Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments in our lives. We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in any way," the band wrote in a statement upon the announcement of their separation. "It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear this from us first.”

"Sum 41 will be disbanding," the note continued, with the group going on to tease their last album and their 2023 tour dates.

"For now, we look forward to seeing all of you skumf---ers on the road and are excited for what the future will bring for each of us," added the band. "Thank you for the last 27 years of Sum 41."

This year, the All Killer No Filler musicians prepared for their separation and began saying farewell to fans by setting out on the road with The Offspring and Simple Plan .

Their frontman, 43, also experienced health complications in fall 2023 when he was hospitalized with pneumonia in September. Whibley’s wife, model Ariana Cooper Whibley, revealed the news on social media at the time, then confirmed days later that the singer — who previously experienced kidney and liver failure in 2014 due to alcohol intoxication — was discharged after “responding well to treatments.”

Tickets for the U.S. dates for the Tour of the Setting Sum go on sale this week. They kick off with a series of presales, including the artist and Citi presales, which are available now, the BandsInTown, Spotify, Live Nation and Ticketmaster presales on Thursday at 10 a.m. ET and venue presales on Thursday at 10 a.m. local time. All remaining tickets will go on sale on Friday at 10 a.m. local time on www.sum41.com/tour .

Sum 41, Pop-Punk Band of Early 2000s Fame, Says It Will Disband

With catchy songs like “Fat Lip” and “In Too Deep,” the Canadian band was part of a pop-punk wave that included Blink-182, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte and others.

Deryck Whibley, the lead singer of Sum 41, in black skinny jeans with chains and a loose black tank top with red lettering, and a black wrist sweatband with red stripes, performs onstage, leaning forward with the microphone. The stage features fire effects and equipment.

By Michael Levenson

The band Sum 41 announced on Monday that it was breaking up after 27 years, unleashing a well of nostalgia for the early 2000s, when pop punk seemed ubiquitous on MTV’s “Total Request Live” and in memorable scenes in blockbuster movies.

The Canadian group, fronted by the spiky-haired singer Deryck Whibley, was part of a pop-punk wave that included Blink-182, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte and Avril Lavigne. Their hits included “Fat Lip” and “In Too Deep,” which fans loved to belt out in their car or jump up and down to at shows.

The band’s music was also featured in popular movies from the early 2000s, among them “Spider-Man,” “Dude, Where’s My Car?” and “Bring It On.”

In a statement on Twitter , Sum 41 did not explain why it was disbanding. It said it planned to finish its tour this year and that it would release a final album, “Heaven :x: Hell,” and announce a final tour to celebrate the end of its run.

“Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives,” the band members wrote. “We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in every way. It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear this from us first.”

News of the band’s decision led fans to mourn the end of an era. While many punk fans scorned Sum 41 and other groups like it as safe and conventional, pop-punk fans said the music was part of the soundtrack of their youth.

“Fat Lip” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart after Sum 41’s breakthrough album, “All Killer No Filler,” was released in 2001. And decades later, fans still packed Sum 41’s shows clad in fishnet stockings or dark skinny jeans and heavy eyeliner, accented with tricolor wrist sweatbands.

“Sum 41 is most definitely on the Mount Rushmore of early 2000s pop punk,” said Finn McKenty, the creator of the YouTube series “The Punk Rock MBA,” which features an episode on “ The Strange History of Sum 41 .”

“To be able to ride the wave of the MTV-type hype that they had and turn that into a career with real longevity and respect is a rare thing that they were able to pull off,” Mr. McKenty said.

The band’s music seemed to capture the spirit of suburban teenage high jinks.

In an interview with Billboard in 2021 , Mr. Whibley said that when the band, which formed in suburban Toronto in 1996, was trying to gain notice, its members filmed themselves “doing stupid stuff like drive-by water gunning people, egging houses, and cut it with some film of our shows.”

The band’s manager then sent a three-minute version of the video to record companies.

“And then, it was a matter of weeks,” Mr. Whibley said. “Every label in the U.S. was trying to sign us, and it turned into a big bidding war.”

Mike Damante, the author of “Hey Suburbia: A Guide to the Emo/Pop-Punk Rise,” said that Sum 41 was one of the first popular pop-punk bands to fuse metal and hip-hop and that it was disbanding during “a really nostalgic time period for this time in music.”

In recent years, Sum 41 had toured with Simple Plan and The Offspring.

Mr. McKenty said the band had recently been producing music that was “as good or better” than its music from the early 2000s.

“I always like to see people go out on top, rather than go out sad,” he said.

Sum 41 announces split, final album and tour: 'We are forever grateful'

Portrait of Morgan Hines

Sum 41 is dividing.

The band took to social media Monday to share the news that "Sum 41 will be disbanding."

"Being in Sum 41 since 1996 has brought us some of the best moments of our lives. We are forever grateful for our fans old and new, who have supported us in every way. It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear this from us first," they said in the post.

The group won't disband before releasing their promised upcoming album and doing a global farewell tour.

"We will still be finishing all of our current upcoming tour dates this year, and we're looking forward to releasing our final album 'Heaven :x: Hell,' along with a final worldwide headlining tour to celebrate. Details will be announced as soon as we have them."

Lead singer (and Avril Lavigne 's ex-husband) Deryck Whibley , 43, also shared the announcement on his own Instagram. Jason "Cone" McCaslin, Dave Baksh, Thomas Thacker and Frank Zummo are listed as current members of the group on Instagram.

The early aughts rock band, known for hit tracks including "In Too Deep" and "Fat Lip," was in good company among the slew of late-1990s and early 2000s bands such as Good Charlotte and Yellowcard that followed Blink-182 and The Offspring.

They were a regular presence on the Warped Tour, the popular alt-rock outing that gave many bands of that ilk their first major platform. Sum 41 played the festival numerous times since 2000 and most recently in 2019.

In addition to their ongoing and upcoming tour, the group is scheduled to perform as part of the lineup of the When We Were Young fest in Las Vegas in October.

Recently, Sum 41 announced their upcoming double album, Heaven :x: Hell , expected for release on March 29 via Rise Records . Heaven :x: Hell is the most ambitious album from Sum 41 yet – Heaven is 10 tracks of snarling high energy pop punk, while Hell consists of ten heavy metal anthems spiked with fret-burning solos, thrashing riffs, and fist-pumping hooks.  The band has been straddling the line of pop-punk and metal for their entire career, and Heaven :x: Hell is a testament to their innovative sound and unmatched skill, proving them as pioneers 27 years after the bands inception.

Heaven :x: Hell is available to pre-save and pre-order now at https://sum41.lnk.to/HeavenHell

Sum 41 shared previously “ Rise Up ” and “ Landmines ”, from Heaven :x: Hell ’s metal Hell side and pop-punk Heaven portion, respectively. The tracks have gained the attention of notable outlets such as Entertainment Tonight, Revolver, Consequence, NME, Exclaim!, BrooklynVegan, Alternative Press, KNOTFEST, and countless others.

Earlier this year, Sum 41 announced their breakup after 27 years of making music together – the news was reported on by The New York Times, NPR, Rolling Stone, CNN, Bloomberg, Pitchfork, TODAY, CBS, Billboard, and countless other major news outlets globally. Heaven :x: Hell is aiming for nothing short of greatness, a perfect parting gift from the band to the fans that have supported them endlessly.

Looking back at the band’s storied 27 year career, Sum 41 has firmly cemented their place in rock history with over 15 million records sold worldwide, multiple Billboard Charting releases, a Grammy Award nomination, 2 Juno Awards (7 nominations), a Kerrang! Award in 2002, multiple Alternative Press Music Awards, and countless other accolades.

Sum 41 Confirm Split After 27 Years, Announce Farewell Tour and Final Album: ‘We Are Forever Grateful’

Sum 41 Is Splitting Up After 27 Years

No longer in too deep! Sum 41 announced they are breaking up after nearly 30 years of performing.

“Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives,” the band wrote in a statement via Instagram on Monday, May 8 . “We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in every way. It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear this from us first.”

The Canadian rock band — which consists of Deryck Whibley , Dave Baksh , Jason “Cone” McCaslin , Tom Thacker and Frank Zummo — continued to say they will be “disbanding” but not before they play a farewell tour and release one more record as a group.

‘We will still be finishing all of our current upcoming tour dates this year, and we’re looking forward to releasing our final album, Heaven and Hell , along with a final worldwide headlining tour to celebrate,” the rockers explained. “Details will be announced as soon as we have them.”

The punk group concluded: “For now, we look forward to seeing all of you skumfuks on the road and are excited for what the future will bring for each of us. Thank you for the last 27 years of Sum 41.”

Sum 41 was originally called Kaspir when it formed in Ajax, Ontario, in 1996 . Three years later, the band signed an international record deal with Island Records. In 2000, they dropped their first EP, Half Hour of Power , and have been making hit punk rock records ever since.

With the group’s 2001 debut album, All Killer No Filler , their rise to mainstream success continued to grow. In fact, Sum 41’s first single off the record, “Fat Lop,” became a No. 1 song on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chat.

The album ultimately reached certified platinum level in both the U.S. and the U.K. In Canada, All Killer No Filler was a triple platinum album.

Throughout their more than two decades in the industry, the band has released seven studio records. Heaven and Hell will make it an even eight — and is set to be a double album.

Sum 41 is currently on tour through Sunday, October 22, when they will cap off the When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas. They will then go on a farewell tour with dates and countries to be announced.

Sum 41 Announce Final Tour, Including Last-Ever Show

The post Sum 41 Announce Final Tour, Including Last-Ever Show appeared first on Consequence .

Sum 41 have announced their final tour, including the Canadian punk vets’ last North American concerts.

The worldwide outing, dubbed “The Tour of the Setting Sum,” will see the band on the road for much of 2024. The itinerary includes separate spring/fall US legs, with The Interrupters supporting both.

The spring outing kicks off April 19th in Omaha, Nebraska, and runs through May 19th in Norfolk, Virginia. From there, Sum 41 will embark on a European tour before returning to the States on September 4th for a gig in San Francisco. The final fall US leg wraps up on October 5th in Las Vegas. The band’s last-ever show is set to follow the tour on January 30th, 2025, in Toronto.

A Live Nation ticket pre-sale starts Wednesday (January 17th) at 10 a.m. local time using the code SPOTLIGHT . General ticket sales begin Friday (January 19th) at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster . Fans can also look for deals or get tickets to sold-out dates via StubHub , where your purchase is 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s Fan Protect program.

Sum 41  announced their impending breakup back in 2023. In addition to the farewell tour, the band will drop their final album, the 20-track double LP Heaven :x: Hell , on March 29th. The release pairs a pop-punk “Heaven” disc with the more heavy metal “Hell” flip-side.

“Once I heard the music, I was confident enough to say, ‘This is the record I’d like to go out on,’” frontman Deryck Whibley said upon the album’s announcement. “We’ve made a double album of pop punk and metal, and it makes sense. It took a long time for us to pave this lane for ourselves, but we did, and it’s unique to us.”

Sum 41 have begun their final tour as band, kicking things off with a performance at the YES24 Live Hall in Seoul, South Korea on Tuesday (Feb. 27).

The group, who will release a double album titled Heaven :x: Hell , on March 29 as their final studio offering, got their farewell tour underway with a 25-song performance playing many of their hits, while also digging up the live debut of a new song and dropping a Queen cover as well.

Heaven :x: Hell kicks off with the new song "Waiting on a Twist of Fate" leading the Heaven side, and the high energy rocker got its live debut as the fifth song of the evening. Fan shot footage of the track can be viewed below.

Other new album songs popping up during the set included "Landmines" and "Rise Up."

Sum 41 announce split; confirm final album and farewell tour

Sum 41 are set to call it a day – but they’re going to be giving fans the chance to say goodbye properly.

The Canadian pop-punk legends – who headlined the Kerrang! Tour in 2016 – announced today (May 8) that they’re going to be disbanding, following the release of final album Heaven :x: Hell and a farewell tour.

“Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives,” reads a statement from the band. “We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in every way. It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear this from us first.

“Sum 41 will be disbanding. We will still be finishing all of our current tour dates this year, and we’re looking forward to releasing our final album Heaven :x: Hell, along with a final worldwide headlining tour to celebrate. Details will be announced as soon as we have them.

“For now, we look forward to seeing all of you skumfuks on the road and are excited for what the future will bring for each of us.”

Farewell, you legends!

Sum 41 have announced a handful of 2024 UK and European shows for their final arena tour. Check out more details below.

The Canadian rock band – comprised of Deryck Whibley, Dave Baksh, Jason “Cone” McCaslin, Tom Thacker and Frank Zummo – have added a string of UK and EU shows to their farewell ‘Tour Of The Setting Sum’, which will kick off in the Netherlands on October 21.

They’ll also make stops in Paris, Budapest and Vienna. The UK leg will take them to Leeds, Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester and Nottingham, before wrapping up at London’s OVO Wembley Arena on October 31.

Tickets for the UK & EU leg of the tour go on sale at 10am this Friday (June 28) and are available to purchase here .

The tour began this year on March 1 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and will end in their home province of Ontario, Canada with the band’s final performance taking place in Toronto on January, 30 2025. For the UK leg, Sum 41 will be supported by The Bronx , and Neck Deep will join for the EU shows.

“We are really excited to announce shows in the UK and Europe later this year,” said frontman Deryck Whibley. “This forms another leg of our last-ever shows and our fans overseas have been incredible to us over the years, so we can’t wait to put on on the best show of our lives and go out on a high.”

Earlier this year, the band announced they would be breaking up after the release of their eighth studio album ‘ Heaven :x: Hell ‘, and the subsequent world tour that included a final appearance at Download Festival last week, and a performance at Mad Cool Festival in Madrid next month.

“Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives,” they wrote in an X post announcing their disbanding. “We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in every way. It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear it from us first.”

In December 2023, Whibley spoke to NME  about the band’s decision to stop making music . “I feel really good about this album, which is why I felt it should be the last one. We didn’t know we’d be splitting up when we were making it, but I’ve been making records and touring with this band since I was 15,” he said. “I’ve had this feeling for a long time now that I want to do something different and it just feels like the right time. This album feels like the perfect way to go out.”

He added: “Over the past few years, the touring has constantly been getting bigger and the band is at our best. My fear is that if I start to lose the excitement, we’ll just fade away. I care too much about the fans and what we’ve built as a band to let that happen, just because it’s a good paycheque.”

This month, Whibley shared his desire to reunite with Sum 41’s former frontman Jon Marshall who left the group after only a year in 1997. In an interview with the Daily Star , he revealed that ‘Johnny Libertine’, a track from their latest album, ‘Heaven :x: Hell’, was written about Marshall, who he referred to as “the most punk-rock guy I have ever known”.

In a three-star review for ‘Heaven :x: Hell’ , NME ‘s Rishi Shah wrote: “Truly a melting pot of soundscapes cherry-picked from their career, ‘Heaven :x: Hell’ is a fitting last hurrah for a band who sealed their place in history long ago.”
