Hello, dear travelers. Having the opportunity to update this tier list is a pleasure. Many of you will get new characters thanks to all the free pulls we got from the 2nd anniversary. Also, many of you will be visiting Orsterra for the first time. With this work + our Reroll Guide , I hope we can bring some light to everyone; from the ones who will have new travelers in their group and want to know how good they can be, to you, who just finished your first guidance.
Reroll Guide
This work will have updates so that the most recent travelers added to the banners are always present. In addition to that, we will be able to revalue travelers according to their usefulness in new content.
First, I would like to clarify that this list is based on my opinion and analysis regarding the strengths and weaknesses of each of these characters. Also, I added the information I gathered by researching what other veterans who have had many adventures in Orsterra think about 5* travelers.
The general idea of this work will be to give a guideline that allows you to assess which travelers are a priority to obtain, to train first, and to consider when facing your greatest challenges.
The available travelers vary from server to server, however, taking into account this work based on the Global server, for newer servers like SEA it will be useful to know the value of travelers at a specific moment to plan efficient use of resources.

Each of the travelers has obtained a rank of 1 to 5 stars in 8 particular areas:
- Physical Damage: This category includes the Physical ATK, active and passive skills relative to physical damage (self), and all damage from a weapon. Critical damage is taken into consideration.
- Elemental Damage: Consider Elemental ATK, active and passive skills relative to elemental damage (self), and all damage from elemental ATK.
- Tanking: This category takes into account HP, Physical and Elemental DEF, passive and active skills that increase survivability, as well as those that allow you to attract aggro from enemies.
- Healing: Considers healing ability to allies, including removing debuffs, and reviving travelers fallen in battle.
- Buffing and Supporting: How good the traveler is applying buffs to allies thus improving their abilities as well as the ability to support during battle. This includes giving SP and BP to allies.
- Debuffing: The traveler can apply debuffs to enemies, weakening them by any means, or otherwise impairing their abilities in battle.
- Shield Breaking: The grade in this section falls on how good the traveler's skills are allowing breaking shield points, either by multiple hits, burning, direct reduction, etc.
- Damage Coverage: Consider different damage types the character can deal to enemies.
The sum of these ranks places the travelers in the tier list rankings. Travelers are not divided by job, which implies that regardless of their role, the sum of ranks represents their ability and versatility in general and non-specific terms.
Travelers are in alphabetical order in their respective tiers.
All units are considered as A4, Lv 100 .
Tier S+ : Travelers in this tier are above the rest in their respective fields. No other traveler can perform the work of any of these characters better than they would. They are travelers that even though more characters appear in new banners they will be relevant for a long period. Having them in your party in almost any battle is a good idea.
Tier S : The characters in this tier are currently very relevant for the most difficult battles. Also, their skill kit makes them very versatile and unique. You can have them in your group for almost any content including endgame, their participation in your party will make a noticeable difference.
Tier A : Travelers who perform their work solidly. However, unlike the higher tier, they are somewhat less versatile and usually required for more specific occasions or when we do not have any travelers from the S+/S tiers and we need a replacement.
Tier B : Travelers in this tier can excel in a particular area, even with a 5* rating, making them very useful at specific times. It will be rare for them to have more than one area in which they excel.
Tier C : They are usually useful at the beginning of our adventures. As we gather a larger group of travelers they begin to fall into the shadow of travelers from the higher tiers. Like those in tier B, they can be remarkable in one area, but in this case, they have at least one area in which they are weak.
Tier D : The abilities of these travelers are often below average. While they may have some niche function, almost any role they perform can be done better by travelers from the higher tier.
Few are the characters that can cover 3 or more types of damage. A2 has skills that allow her to deal with an absurd amount of Axe, Dagger, and Sword damage.
She certainly doesn't have any elemental property attacks. Nevertheless, a PATK of 439 (+50), the highest among thieves more than makes up for it until we get Kainé, who can reach 573 on level 120.
The main reason she's in the highest tier is a characteristic it shares with Therion. Both can use their skills twice. 3* Passive "Animus Might": In Berserk Mode, damaging abilities are used again in a row (the follow-up attack will not consume SP). This lets A2 hit like a truck.
If that were not enough, having skills that hit 3 times without the need to boost them, combined with her passive, makes A2 able to hit 6 times with any of these three weapon types, making her an excellent shield breaker. Finally, her ultimate, in addition to a large amount of damage, inflicts 15% Def Down for 2 turns, which means one of the most powerful debuffs to this stat.
Infinite BP regen. Alaune EX is one of those must-have travelers in any group.
Invigorating Prayers (3★) makes Alaune EX the best BP backpack battery in the game. This skill raises the BP recovery of all allies by 1. This effect persists as long as Alaune can keep this skill active. Certainly, this sucks high amounts of SP, however, an SP Fan is more than enough to maintain Invigorating Prayers running.
Her E.Atk is high enough to let her fulfill an Ice DPS role when needed and Tomorrow's Hope is a great ultimate in any battle letting us auto revive all our allies.
Even nowadays in Japan, no other traveler can do what Alaune EX does.
Where do I start? Bargello is an amazing traveler with many good skills while having one of the best if not the best A4 accessory in the game.
Perseverante is his main damage skill. It consumes tons of SP, even from other travelers. However, in break rotations, it hits hard. Otherwise, other skills like Astuto can do the job.
Give the Signal buffs P.Atk and M.Atk of the entire front row + dagger and wind damage. However, the best part of this skill is how it raises 30,000 to the damage cap. If we combine this with Cuff of the Family , his A4 accessory that also raises 100,000, any of our damage dealers can hit harder than ever.
Debilitate reduces one enemy Def. and M.Def by 20% , and his ultimate For the Family let us use all our allies' ultimate one more time. Both skills make Bargello useful in any team.
Right now Bargello is the best dagger DPS in Global. However, 3 travelers compete for the top spot in JP beside Bargello. Also, Castti's EX Skill power-creep Bargello. Despite this, Bargello is still good in JP and has a granted place in dagger comps.
Canary is one of the most buffed travelers when translated from Japan to Global.
Her passive, Thief Wrath unleashes Pursuit that hits with dagger damage as many times as her Thief's Evasion count. With its buff, this skill has a cap of six times lowering shield points even when not striking weak points.
This makes Canary the best shield-breaking traveler in the game breaking 7 shields minimum every time she attacks.
Thief's Heist is a great ultimate letting Canary act first, hit six times, impart her with Thief's Evasion, and raise the potency of all allies by 50%. This makes her one of the two travelers who can increase the potency of other group members besides Solon. Her ult is a priority if you don't have Solon.
Beautiful Thief's Earring is an amazing accessory. This is the only accessory that can reduce P.Def when breaking an enemy besides Yang Long's Monk's Gaiters. Earring gives -15% and Gaiter -10%. Pairing both would be an amazing -25% P.Def; an amazing passive for any attacker.
Hitting six times with Light and Dark makes Diatrania the best elemental attacker for those elements in the game
Her passive, Infinite Wisdom is what makes this possible. When using an elemental skill, she gains effects based on the element; Infinite Light if we hit with light, and Infinite Dark if we hit with Dark. This would make her AoE attacks Dimming Shine and Fallen Baleful Star hit six times instead of three.
Her nukes also hit hard. However, comparing Ditrania with Elrica, another Light and Dark attacker is hard. We know that warriors and P.Atk are favored in CotC, however, some other elemental attackers would arrive, and Ditrania would be part of any Light and Dark team even if you can build a full Light/Dark P.Atk team.
Since her release in Japan on Jan 1, 2023, Elrica has been one of the most anticipated characters in Global history.
We got her banner on Apr 23, 2024, and I'm sure every player broke their piggy bank to pull for Elrica. We question when pulling for a traveler because many can be outclassed over time. However, this is not Elrica's case. Even nowadays she is a top 3 warrior still being used in Japan.
Royal Tenacity lets Elrica gain tenacity points when using battle skills which enhance the effects of some skills. Thanks to this, she can potentially hit 10 times making her a great nuker and a breaker and the first traveler capable of hitting 10 times in Global.
She has two stances, Warrior and Monarch. One is more aggressive and the other more defensive. This gives Elrica flexibility letting her function as an off-support unit. Building tenacity is hard, nevertheless, Elrica arrived to stay at the top for a long time.
It looks like when a traveler gets an EX-dancer job they become top tier. Hannit EX is an amazing evasion tank and a debuffer.
Phoenix Prance makes her the only traveler capable of AoE debuffing all stats. This makes her extremely good in battles with multiple enemies.
Hannit EX can taunt all foes with Enticing Elegy lowering their P.Atk and E.Atk by 15%. She doesn't have a high defense, however, her passive Evasive Form grants her a 50% chance of dodging. That's a lot.
If we combine these skills with her fan DPS capabilities, Hannit EX will have a place in many groups and battles for a long time. She is still a great traveler in JP. Also, she is a general pull unit; this makes Hannit EX accessible, which lets new travelers upgrade their teams easily.
One of the last two travelers to arrive is also one of the best inclusions your group could have. Well, the reality is that Primrose is already an old acquaintance, but the way its EX version provides utility makes it enter the highest tier without question.
She can debuff the attack and elemental attack of enemies and increase it to our front row. Likewise, you can apply debuffs to defense and elemental defense buffing these stats. This makes it the most complete buffer and debuffer currently with the ability to be useful in any group and encounter.
If that were not enough, she can also increase the speed of our front row. Thanks to Shower of Roses, granting Entire Front Row automatic HP regeneration, and filling the Ultimate gauge by 20% at the same time. (Reaches All Allies at Max Boost).
This speed increase is enough for the fastest travelers to outspeed the fastest enemies. Her ultimate, Shower of Primroses is also amazing, making the entire front row stronger by raising physical and elemental attacks, applying HP Regen (which stacks) enabling a large amount of passive healing at the end of the turn, and filling the front row's Ultimate bar by 50 %, which is incredibly helpful.
Primrose EX Detailed Guide
Richard is a great character when dealing sword damage to enemies. Nevertheless, Richard's amazing buffing and debuffing capabilities make him a formidable traveler.
Thanks to Torrent Formation he can impart the entire front row with Phys. Atk. Up 20% and rise Sword and Spear damage by 20% (2-5 turns). This is one of the more powerful buffs in the game for boosting our damage.
His A King's Pride passive will increase an additional 15% to the front row's Physical attack, sword, and spear damage while he is at full HP. And that's not all, his ultimate deals a lot of damage while applying the same buff as A King's Pride . This means buffs in his active skills, passive, and ultimate, which makes him an incredible ally when setting up nukes against strong enemies.
If we add to this that he also can apply speed and ATK debuffs, Richard is undoubtedly one of the best travelers in CotC.
The best support cleric. Period. The global server waited for this traveler for a long time. Let's hope SEA doesn't have to wait that long. Available globally since October, Rinyuu is here to stay.
We can define it as one of the best backpack travelers in the game. Thanks to his two passive abilities, Rinyuu grants SP recovery to his paired ally and reduces the SP consumption of the entire front row by 10% simply by being in the back row.
Gracious Prayer and Crusader's Prayer are fantastic skills. Both make Rinyuu go into "praying mode". This means that if Rinyuu performs any action, runs out of SP, or is knocked out of combat, the skill will stop having an effect, but as long as this does not happen she can give all allies HP regen, Phys. Def, Elem. Def., Phys. Atk., and Elem. Atk buffs (+ some status immunities).
Rinyuu is the ultimate support unit for travelers like EX Fiore, she fits any party well and can deliver when needed.
Sazantos is one of the top three warriors and the best Fire warrior in Orsterra. It's hard to compete on a Warrior meta. However, even with great warriors such as Elrica or O. Odio, Sazantos stands firm as the best choice when we want to exploit fire weaknesses; this is even true in Japan.
Most of his attacks hit with a sword but also cover Fire and Light weaknesses, which makes him a must against enemies weak to these elements. Against multiple enemies, he can use Mass Sacred Blaze Slash for a 6-hit AoE that hits Sword, Fire, and Light weaknesses at once. This makes Sazantos better than Elrica in certain situations. Elrica can hit 10 times against a single target.
His support skills are amazing for a DPS. Sacred Blaze Shield is the more notorious one, letting us raise the P.Def and E.Def of our front row by 15% + Granting a complete block of some elemental attacks countering with Light damage for each traveler.
Sacred Blade Legacy is a great ultimate skill. You can use Sacred Blaze Might buffing all our team, and debuffing all our enemies while fully charging the ultimate. Then if you use the ultimate you will charge 5 BP to all our group including Sazantos. You can do a lot with this. For short battles, this would make Sazantos a BP battery enough not to need a dedicated traveler for the role.
Debuffers such as Signa are not that common. When speaking about warriors, we have many choices to cover our needs. Having a traveler like Signa in our group gives us some advantages that are impossible to get otherwise.
Her passives Diminishing Guard and Diminishing Might lowers P.Def and E.Def of all foes by 5% while Signa is in the front or back row respectively. 5% is not that much, however, this helps us get more status-effect icons which helps us maximize other Signa's skills.
Thanks to this, Sacred Blaze Ode: Flurry can hit with Fan six times, and Sacred Blade Ode: Round can hit with Light and Fire six times, making Signa a good breaker for these weaknesses.
Her Ultimate, Debilitating Oratorio makes Signa the best debuffer in the game. A 20% debuff to P.Atk, P.Def, E.Atk, and E.Def AoE for 3 turns is huge. Even now, there's no replacement for this ultimate in JP.
Sonia is an AoE breaker specialist. With her passive Swift Stance, she gains an effect that activates skills twice. This enables her to potentially AoE break enemies' shields six times regardless of the weakness.
Blustering Break is the skill for doing this. It deals elemental Wind damage to all foes 2 times lowering shield points even when not striking weak points. The attack count becomes 3 at Max Boost.
Most of her dagger attacks also exploit Wind's weaknesses and hit hard. However, her E.Atk is quite high for a Thief, which helps us when we want to use Blustering Break .
Against single-enemy fights, Storm Spike is amazing for breaking shields. This skill hits with a dagger 4 times at max boost exploiting Wind weakness, which transforms to 8 thanks to Swift Stance.
She is also useful when switching to the back row. With SP Restoration on Switch to Back she restores the SP of the entire front row. Finally, she is a centerpiece on dagger comps; she can debuff not only P.Atk and E.Atk but also Dagger Res.
We already discussed how good A2 is because she can hit with Axe, Dagger, and Sword skills. Tatloch has many good Fan and Wind attacks, but also can Summon Maa'fa ; this attack deals Sword damage to all foes also exploiting Polearm and Axe weaknesses, which is fantastic for a single skill. With all these, Tatloch can cover five different damage types.
Her passive Lifesnatcher lets her absorb 5% of damage dealt as HP and receive 1 Life Point when attacking. The Lady of Grace's Delight is Tatloch's ultimate and aside from dealing Fan damage 8 times to random enemies + inflicting poison, she receives 3 Life points. With these life points, she boosts the Empress' Elation , her other passive, letting Tatloch buff the front row P. Atk and E. Atk + granting HP and SP recovery making her a fantastic support.
Tatloch also introduces Enchant, a new status that gives the target a chance of being unable to act. Combining Tatloch with a traveler that can Charm gives you a high chance of nullifying targets.
With high HP and P. Atk for a Dancer, she is a physical DPS character but her kit makes her very versatile. Having Tatloch in almost any fight is a good idea.
Speaking of A2, I also explained why Therion and A2 share honors in the highest tier. His 3* passive is tremendously powerful. Divine Feat: When using Boost MAX on an ability, that ability is used a second time in a row .
This transforms Therion into a battering ram capable of maxing out the damage cap without much trouble. If we add to this that he has the highest speed stat in CotC, we undoubtedly have a character that hits like a truck at the speed of a racing car.
It's a great option for daily farming. He's able to sustain himself by recovering HP and SP on his own, and he's also excellent at breaking shields, even if the enemies are not weak to its cover. Therion is a traveler who's useful in our group today and in the long term.
One of my favorite travelers. The pomegranate boy.
His most important skill is Pomegranate Panacea: Restore BP of Entire Front Row (amount: 1-4 based on Boost Lv.), but delay actions during turn. *Can be used 2 times per battle.
Thanks to this snack Alfyn abilitates many other travelers letting us set up many of the most powerful turns against difficult enemies. He also works as an off-healer by having the ability to give HP regeneration to the front row. All this without forgetting that his capabilities as a breaker for Axe and Ice coverage, and his durability in battle are above average.
A traveler who undoubtedly enables many of the most valuable strategies for hard content in CotC. "The strongest attackers in this game reach their maximum potential thanks to a pomegranate."
His very peculiar kit of skills is what makes Auguste stand out. He has good coverage and can deal dagger, tome, and dark damage. Also, Auguste can self-sustain his BP when attacking with a dagger or tome thanks to his passive Unbridled Passion that changes and improves some of his skills.
Auguste also can lower dagger resist, which makes him great with A2, Therion, and dagger teams. While we haven't mentioned the accessories we get from Awakening IV a traveler, the Playwright's Quill is certainly formidable allowing a traveler to start the battle with a full ultimate bar.
In the long term, Auguste can be substituted for newer travelers in his role, he is still useful doing a good job when needed. A solid character overall.
Cyrus is in some way a traveler that presents certain parallels with A2. Just as A2 has ample coverage in terms of physical damage, Cyrus is currently the character with the highest coverage for elemental damage in CotC. This is thanks to how he's capable of dealing Fire, Ice, and Lightning damage (+Tome).
Cyrus isn't higher in the tier because he doesn't contribute much outside damage, but what more can we ask for an elemental nuker? Some travelers are considered "The best Ice attacker", "The best Wind attacker", etc., but Cyrus is "The best scholar", period.
His EATK is the highest in CotC, making him the best traveler when speaking of raw damage from Ice and Lightning (and even Tome). His multi-hit skills allow him to bypass the hit damage cap with ease. In addition, he is a great farmer thanks to his powerful AoE skills.
Although in the long run in JP, certain travelers who have not yet reached our lands can replace Cyrus when a lot of specialization is required, Cyrus will remain in force for a long time.
Eltrix is my commander! ⚓ Another one of my favorite characters in CotC.
When Eltrix has full HP her capabilities are formidable thanks to his skills: Prestige of the Stormy Seas, Summon Gakko, Summon Wappa , and Darkmoon . This allows Eltrix to increase Phys. Atk and Elem. Atk of the entire front row, in addition to reducing the SP cost of their skills, being self-sustaining in terms of BPs.
She can also serve as a breaker without the need to hit enemy weaknesses, which is very valuable coming from a warrior traveler. All this added to having a sword nuke that exploits Dark weakness.
The barrier provided by his second passive, Summon Ivri , is HUGE. Certainly, the requirement requires a playstyle taking this passive into account every turn, but the effort is worth it. This helps you get the most out of the skills mentioned in the previous point during complicated battles. Take Command allows Eltrix in times when maintaining the barrier is difficult.
Being able to hit enemies weak to the dark element with sword attacks Shadowy Seaslash , and Darkmoon is valuable. This is something that makes her unique. She requires some support for the damage to be relevant, but it makes a difference in crucial moments.
Eltrix Detailed Guide
Roland and Frederica from the Triangle Strategy collaboration received buffs when they reached the global server due to their low popularity and efficiency on the Japanese server.
This is notable since Frederica is the most powerful fire attacker in Orsterra. The damage dealt by Eruption or Sunfall is tremendous. Also, she is the only traveler capable of directly increasing the fire damage of other allies thanks to her skill Enchanting Spice .
If we add to this the effect of his passive Magic Ablaze , which increases the E.Atk of the entire front row, if a burning enemy is present, we have in Frederica an erupting volcano that also empowers many group builds that undoubtedly appreciate having her for company.
This EX variant is undoubtedly here to stay. The proof is that even in the JP version of CotC where the content is ahead, Fiore EX is still one of the best tanks.
The reason is that she can redirect all attacks with a single target back to herself, which makes our healers' job much easier. This complements it very well with her ability to negate attacks directed towards her, counterattacking with fan damage and inflicting burning on the enemy (which translates to zero damage).
Having Fiore EX in your party in any endgame battle increases your chances of survival exponentially. Also, her fan physical damage is quite high, and while she competes with Herminia, we will prefer Fiore EX on certain occasions.
Probably the best of the 3 characters in the "Champions" banner. Auguste certainly has an attractive kit, but in Herminia's case, her role is somewhat more specific as a breaker, she does this job excellently and with ample coverage.
She features three 4 hit attacks for her three damage types: Bow, Fan, and Light. Her ATK stat is high, 2nd highest among hunters, only behind Kersjes.
She maintains a longevity similar to that of Auguste. That is to say, in the long run, she can be replaced at certain specific moments, a traveler with such wide coverage and multi-hit skills for each damage type will always be useful and good to have in almost every fight.
Lars is a physical damage nuker capable of dealing tremendous damage with his single target, random target, and AoE sword skills.
He has one of the highest ATK stats in CotC, including all jobs (he's second only to Olberic and Kersjes). Additionally, he shares with Z'aanta the characteristic of having a 5-hit non-boosted attack, making him an excellent breaker.
His participation in various cups such as Yan Long, Glossom, Varkyn, and Yuunie (all weak to swords) makes him incredibly useful for these matchups where we can get new travelers and thus increase our roster.
An added plus is that he is a good addition to wind-focused teams thanks to his skill Gleaming Gale reduces the resistance of all enemies to that element by 10%.
It's hard to place warriors in the highest tiers unless they're extraordinarily versatile or relevant as there are so many. Nevertheless, reaching Tier S means they are solid enough to stay the least in the current meta for a moderate time.
Leon is always compared to Roland. I get why, however, Leon has many upsides when we think about him as a support DPS.
With Snake Fangs, Leon can lower enemies' Polearm and Staff resistances, Ramming Thrust he reduces P.Def and E.Def, and Fierce Thrust lets Leon reduce P. Atk and E. Atk. Sea Serpent's Spear , Leon's ultimate can raise the BP recovery of our front row by 1 for two turns besides doing great damage. If that's not enough, Vanguard Elem. Res. Boost raises the elemental resistance of the entire front row by 20% passively. This increases the survivability of our group by a big margin moving forward.
Also, don't forget Leon is one of the best if not the best Staff DPS in the game. His breaking skills and nuke are great, and they also exploit staff weaknesses and have multihit, reactivating the skill without SP consumption.
With this information, we could separate Leon from Roland and other polearm users labeling him as Support Polearm + Staff DPS Traveler, which let us decide easily when we can make Leon shine.
I think I had been very harsh with a traveler who had chosen me as a companion since my first days in Orsterra. Lynette is the 5* traveler who has appeared in my pulls the most times and I value her highly.
Lynette was Tier A in some versions of this Tier List. However, I have decided to raise it during the December 2023 update one tier due to its popularity as a target when rerolling.
Her buffer qualities make her a highly sought-after traveler at the beginning of Orsterra's journeys, which allows her to fit into practically any team comp in the end game without a problem. She can easily be the first to act on your team letting her buff, debuff, or shave shields with Fire AOE skills.
Her 3* skill Masterful Cheer III and its ultimate Child of the Dance make her shine. The first skill increases the Phys. Atk, and the Elem. Atk at 20% (the highest amount possible in a skill that affects the entire front row in both characteristics). The ultimate increases these same stats + the speed, and this stacks with buffs from regular skills, making Lynette an extremely versatile dancer who will accompany many from their first days and for a long time in their battles.
Nepthi's Global buff was what made her a unit to pull for.
She gains 1 Cheer On point whenever she switches. With these points, she boosts all her kit heavily. Thanks to this Nepthi can hit 5 times with Cheerful Bash, an AoE Axe attack that also exploits Staff and Tome weaknesses, and 6 times with Cheerful Tamping , a single-target attack.
Is that not enough, she got Cheerful Scrapping a nuke attack that exploits the same weaknesses. Nepthi doesn't have a high P. Atk or Speed, however, she excels as a breaker and a buffer. She can give barriers, restore HP, give HP Regen, raise P. Atk, E. Atk, and crit, or even lower our enemies' Axe, Staff, and Tome resistances.
Nephi is not a must-have unit, nevertheless, she is a great nice-to-have traveler whenever you need to break Axe, Staff, and Tome shields letting her a Breaker-Buffer role for those fights.
Nivelle introduced Shock, a new status alignment that lowers Shield Points by 1 when taking Elem. Lightning damage.
This status will not break enemies as Combust does, however, if we use Bolts of Defiance, we could strike 5 times AoE with Lightning damage, also exploiting Fire weakness breaking 10 shields in the process if the enemy has a weakness for these elements.
Many seasoned travelers in Orsterra think Nivelle is replaceable in most situations. However, even if this is somewhat true, Nivelle is also why Lightning teams are viable. Thanks to Charged Blast we could inflict Shock for 3 turns, which makes it easy to keep Shock up the entire battle dealing high damage in the process because this skill got buffed for Global release .
His TP Skill has not yet been released in Global and buff 30% Lightning damage up to the front row. This is a game changer, nevertheless, his passive, Electric Booster that buffs the Front Row with E. Atk up by 30% when a shocked enemy is present which is good.
Nivelle is the best Lightning scholar. Lightning teams are not meta, but Nivelle makes them good. Other travelers may replace Nivelle's role, still, in the same manner, if you do have those, Nivelle is good enough to act as a shield shaver, Lightning DPS, and E. Atk buffer.
I value Lynette highly because it's amazing for newer players; Oersted's situation is similar. It's not easy to stand in this game as a warrior. However, for many players without top-tier warriors, getting Oersted for free when we got Live-A-Live collab was a game changer.
Oersted is strong enough to carry you through the main story for quite a while. Heroic Nature makes him gain 1 Valor Point when attacking using a skill. This raises Oersted's potency by 5% per Valor Point. With a 45% max buff of this passive, Oersted hit like a truck.
Crushing Blow deals Sword damage but also exploits Staff weakness, and Thousand Cuts, and Flourish deal Sword damage and exploit Wind Weakness. Heavenly Strike is his Sword nuke that exploits Polearm's weakness, and Dragonsoul , Oersted's ultimate exploits Fire's weakness. These attacks make Oersted versatile and great for covering gaps in your group.
He can also lower enemies' P. Def, P. Atk, and Speed and have Blade Rain , an AoE 4-Hit Sword attack that makes him a good shield breaker. Overall, Oersted is an F2P great-to-have traveler if you catch Live-A-Live collabs.
O. Odio would be the best Dark Warrior for a while.
Most of Odio's skills deal damage to himself and our team in exchange for greater damage and buffs. If we can maintain our group HP up, we can use Absolute Hatred without fear. This skill consumes 60% of the max HP of each ally with more than 60% HP but makes an 8-Hit nuke Sword attack that exploits Dark Weakness.
Odio is also a great buffer. Widespread Hatred deals 50% damage of max HP to the Entire Front Row; that's a lot, however, we get in return a 20% damage buff + Dead Aim guaranteed critical hit for 2-5 turns + 1BP recovery to every affected traveler.
Sublime Dark Lord is an amazing passive. This skill lets Odio restore his own SP, recover 5BP, restore Ultimate count by 1, full Ult gauge to 100%, and raise P. Atk and damage by 15% whenever an ally is incapacitated. That's a heavy requirement, but the buff we get in return is massive letting Odio deal big damage.
You will need a traveler who can keep all your team HP up for having O. Odio in your group like Ogen, Primrose Ex, or Rinyuu. However, even if Odio requires a dedicated healer with him, he hit hard enough to justify the effort.
Some other characters in the S+ and S tiers can heal our allies despite not being clerics. They do the job when we need versatility. However, when the occasion demands a dedicated healer 100% to this task, Ophilia is undoubtedly the best option.
Even in the JP version, Ophilia is still considered one of the best-dedicate healers in the game. She has a large amount of SP making the task of supporting and healing our group an easy task.
She can heal with great power, grant HP regeneration, increase physical and magical defenses, and remove debuffs. Without a doubt, Ophilia has everything necessary to take care of the group. And she could not miss the ability to revive fallen allies, individually, or all the fallen if we use her ultimate Aelfric's Affection.
The icing on the cake is that thanks to one of her passives, he can automatically revive when she falls for the first time in battle. If I open up an extra slot in the S+ Tier, Ophilia would probably be the one to fill it.
As part of the collaboration with Triangle Strategy, another incredible RPG from Square Enix, Roland fills a niche role. However, in this role, no one surpasses him.
His job is to reduce the Polearm Res. of the enemies. He can do this in multiple ways thanks to his passive Master Cavalryman , Defortifying Spice and Rush , + his ultimate Four Dragons . This makes Roland incredibly effective when needed. He also has multiple debuffs to the Phys. Def. and damage increases to polearm users.
It certainly won't do the damage of Krauser or W'Ludai, but it's not far off. In addition, it is the fastest of all merchants. Roland is a fundamental piece that will make a difference when the time calls for him.
Rondo made a lot of noise when he arrived thanks to his ultimate. Aelfric's Judgement is amazing. The sword and light damage is super powerful, but the fact that he gains a buff called Secred Flame Blessing which allows Rondo to recover 3 BP per turn for 4 turns makes him contend for the best ultimate skill in CotC.
If we add to this that he can recover HP and SP with his other skills, we can say that Rondo is an auto-sustainable warrior, capable of spamming sword and light damage, making him deserve this place in Tier S. However, we have to treat warriors carefully. Many good warriors will be arriving soon, and Rondo may start becoming replaceable in a not-so-long period.
Don't get me wrong. Rondo can deal considerable amounts of hybrid damage, and he also has a 5-hit AoE attack which undoubtedly makes him a good breaker. He is also valuable in certain compositions. His moment as one of the best warriors in CotC will depend on how quickly the travelers who compete with him for the role he plays in our group arrive.
Sarisa is undoubtedly one of those travelers who have surprised many by being much more useful and efficient than they might initially seem.
Flameblade Scheme is a debuff that stacks with other debuffs, reducing sword, dagger, and fire resistances. Additionally, Sarisa moves to the back row after this, allowing her three passives to come into play.
Similarly to Rinyuu it provides backpack support, granting automatic SP recovery and increased Phys Atk. to the ally in front of her. This makes Sarisa a great nuker partner.
Her Ultimate Heavenly Gift reduces five shields even if the enemy has no weakness to daggers and makes Sarisa immediately move to the back row. All this together makes Sarisa the best support thief our group can have.
Using a term I mentioned earlier in this article, Sofia EX is the best wind attacker in CotC. Odette certainly comes into play and in terms of offensive capabilities both are similar.
However, Sofia EX stands out because she is very flexible and versatile. She can increase allies' stats, such as Ice and Wind resistances by 20%, and heal HP and SP thanks to her Marine Wisdom passive.
All this is in addition to being able to grant HP regeneration if necessary. Odette is an amazing traveler thanks to her dual coverage of Light and Wind. Nevertheless, if we need to focus on a wind nuker without losing versatility, Sofia EX would be my choice (and without a doubt, both travelers work wonderfully together on wind teams!)
Solon Ultimate Master Strategist is what makes him great. This ult lets Solon act first and raise the potency of an ally by 100% and grants the target a Damage Limit Up of 10,000-50,000. This makes Solon a must in many battles where the goal is to finish the encounter as fast as possible.
Primrose EX is an amazing partner for Solon. With Shower of Primroses, you can fill the Ult gauge of the front row by 50%, excluding Prim EX. This lets Solon use his ult twice which makes any DPS hits like a convoy of trucks.
If this is not enough, Flamelance Formation buffs Entire Front Row E. Atk, Polearm, and Fire Damage by 20%.
Solon has skills that can reduce P. Atk, E. Def, Polearm, and Fire Res, and cause all foes to combust + Flying Flamelance, an AoE 3-Hit Fire attack that exploits Polearm weakness and Piercing Flamelance, a Fire nuke that also hits Polearm with a potency of 260.
Some U10 are a priority in Orsterra, however, having Solon's U10 is one of the biggest impacts you can feel in your group when you get it.
Although Tithi competes strongly with Eleonora and Lynette for a position in Tier S, certainly her role in the group, which is quite particular, made me choose her over Eleonora for this spot.
This dancer is an amazing support, one of the best in CotC. TT can reach the 30% cap of physical and magical attack debuff for all enemies alone. She can also hit this cap for physical and magical attack buffs for our front row. This is thanks to the fact that her skills stack.
Undoubtedly a characteristic that makes it unique and that, just like the most powerful dancers, enables very particular strategies capable of finishing off the most powerful enemies in a way that would be impossible without her.
Another reason why I put her in this position above Eleonora (for a close margin), is that it seems to me that the passage of time suits her better. In other words, despite the arrival of new travelers, TT remains more relevant for the content that will gradually arrive.
Her ultimate Thunder God's Cessation and her skill General's March give 1 BP to our front row (plus dealing damage / and buffing our party), and even if she doesn't stand out for doing a lot of damage, she is an amazing breaker thanks to her 4 and 3 multi-hit fan and lightning attacks. All this makes her seem like a great dancer and with significant longevity.
It might be slightly controversial to place W'ludai above Krauser. However, while Krauser has higher damage potential than W'ludai, she excels in more areas than Krauser.
Both are good breakers, and W'ludai's damage capacity with the spear is not negligible she was the most powerful user of this weapon until the arrival of Krauser. But if we talk about survivability, W'ludai is undoubtedly much better.
Travelers who can self-sustain in battle are much more valuable in my opinion. W'ludai can heal herself by using his highest damage-dealing skill. If we combine this with any source of HP regeneration W'ludai will stay on her feet dealing damage almost indefinitely. If we add this ultimate Hydra Pierce , the only ability in the game capable of hitting up to 8 times, which combines amazingly well with Javaline Rush (which deals spear damage at the start of each turn) we can do 9 spear hits in a single turn!
This girl is a little SP thirsty, but having an SP battery or her A4 accessory W'ludai's Satchel helps with this. It was a close decision for the spot in the top tiers, but without a doubt, W'ludai deserves it. Over time, swords became the meta, but when spears are necessary, having W'ludai will always come in handy.
The best attacker specializing in the dark element arrived in October 2023. We can say it is the dark version of Hayes with certain improvements.
Black Heart Inhibitor is a powerful skill. It is a priority attack that hits four times for dark damage while also reducing E. Def of the enemy.
Speaking of A4 accessories again, Poysenbalm , Zenia's accessory is certainly one you shouldn't pass up as it lowers Elem Def. and inflicts poison when breaking an enemy. This activates Zenia's passive Knowledge of Toxicology , which buffs paired allies with Elem. Atk. Up 30% and raise Dark damage dealt by 30% when a poisoned enemy is present, making the wielder and her column ally incredibly powerful.
Zenia can efficiently reduce the shields of multiple enemies weak to darkness while empowering teams focused on Elemental Damage. This makes Zenia a great traveler for closing our Tier S.
Princess Alaune could easily be in the top tier. I placed Alaune higher before, but I've decided to keep the S+ and S slots for the best of the best and lower Alaune to Tier A in this update.
Without a doubt, Alaune is one of the most versatile characters in CotC. Her kit includes offensive, defensive, and support skills. And this does not imply that one of the areas is significantly worse than another. 4.5* in Elemental Damage, 4.5* in healing, and double 4* in Tanking and Shield Breaking.
3 hit Fire and Light AoE attacks, healing, and regeneration for the front row. A single revive that can be used three times. And finally, an ultimate that in addition to healing allies, increases their maximum HP by 25%. Certainly, a princess who will rescue the group on more than one occasion dealing considerable elemental damage simultaneously.
It's been hard work, but I hope this tier list is helpful to the entire community. Presenting this list can certainly enlighten new travelers (and some not-so-new ones) about which characters will last over time or are extremely good in the present.
This added to knowing the rankings that I have given to these travelers, Let us have a better overview of who we should take in our group when facing our great challenges.
However, this does not mean lower-tier travelers cannot cast extraordinary roles at opportune moments. Gilderoy for example is a great tank, and Scarecrow works amazing as a breaker. Alaune was on Tier S before, but even if I move her to Tier A, she is versatile and can help you face great challenges. Originally the comprehensive part of the tier list would be just about Tier S+ and Tier S; however, if we continue moving some travelers down, I will expand this to all Tier A.
This is just one example of how this work of opinion + statistics can be useful, but in the end, what matters the most is traveling in the company characters that make our adventures much more memorable.
See you soon. Thank you for leaving any opinion about this Tier List in the comment section below, or on my Twitter , surely everything will help me to make the next edition of the Tier List much better.
Remember to stop at the gate often. And till then, my friend, farewell; May your travels through Orsterra be marvelous!

Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent
"Wealth—— Power—— Fame—— Even should one lay claim to all three… The covetous heart will never know contentment… For man's desire is a bottomless abyss…" — Master of All Chapter 1 Intro
Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent is a mobile game Spin-Off of the highly-successful Octopath Traveler released for iOS and Android on the Japanese App Store on October 28th, 2020 by Square Enix . A worldwide English version was released on July 27, 2022.
The game's events starts three years before the events of Octopath Traveler and revolve around a single-player Gacha RPG experience concerning three main influences: wealth, power, and fame. Each summonable character (and major plotline) is associated with one of the main influences and one of the starting eight classes from the original game. While the original " break and boost " mechanics return, battles now allow for eight playable characters to fight at once, with half of them resting in the back row. "Path Actions" also return and can be used similarly on NPCs as in the base game. Likewise, the land of Orsterra is available to travel and new settlements have been added in addition to the previous settlements explored in the original game.
Differing from the original game, Champions of the Continent follows the adventure of The Chosen One ; a random traveler who is exploring the land of Orsterra for personal reasons. As they continue along on their journey, they eventually come across an enigmatic entity who bequeaths them the Cleric God Ring and tasks the Chosen One with locating and retrieving the other God Rings across the land which have been stolen by mysterious forces. As it happens, three of the rings have landed themselves in the presence of three evil entities said to be the Champions of the Continent. Each conqueror being a master over one of their respective influences, the Chosen One sets out on their new quest to retrieve the remaining rings and put a stop to the Champions' ambitions before the power of the rings are forever lost to evil.
The game also draws inspiration from Another Eden , borrowing that game's gacha mechanics , minimap design, Skill Scores and Perks system and focus on a single-player J/RPG experience for mobile devices.
Provides examples of:
- Actually Four Mooks : Some NPCs , when you use a Power path action on them, will have your battle be against multiple people even though you only ever Contend/Impress one person at a time.
- Orsa was established as the creator of world and the thirteen gods, as well as the namesake of Orsterra. This game reveals the existence of another god Finis who was her husband, as well as her ultimate fate.
- The war that orphaned Ophilia was the one waged between the kingdoms of Edoras and Riven 12 years before the start of this game that ended in the non aggression pact being signed. This game establishes the war was started from Pardis's ambitions, making him responsible for her village's destruction.
- Erhardt's village Grynd was destroyed by the invading southern clans, the same ones that Tytos would beat back as his claim to fame.
- The imperial conference to settle international disputes and arbitrated by the Church of the Sacred Flame makes its first appearance in the "Master of All" arc.
- Antagonist Title : The titular Champions of the Continent are the 8 evil Ringbearers who each bear a Divine Ring and serve as the Arc Villain for a chapter.
- Rolling the 4 or 5 star version of a 3.5 or 4.5 character automatically upgrades any already obtained versions to that rarity. So if the player gets Sofia as a 4.5, then a 5 star, her 4.5 automatically becomes a 5 star, helping save the player any resources they may have been needing.
- On a related note, any time a character is upgraded via this process, any invested Guidestones are simply added on top of the existing level increase. So if you increase a 4.5's level by 3, they won't lose any investment.
- Anti-Grinding : Zig-zagged. Most enemies give minimal amounts of EXP, so leveling up your characters by fighting them isn't practical. However, Caits give larger amounts of EXP, provided they don't run away, but the rate at which a player can encounter them is low (thankfully, Caits from advertisements or in Hunts will never flee). Additionally, the game doesn't do much to stop a player from grinding for materials to make weapons and armor.
- Anti Poop-Socking : Elite enemies, refreshing Path Actions, daily tasks, and daily advertisements take a long time to refresh (i.e. 10 or 20 hours), and are designed to encourage the player to only invest a few minutes a day in playing the game unless they're really serious about grinding materials and levels.
- Appeal to Inherent Nature : Before Auguste was a Serial Killer sociopath, he was a failed playwright whose plays never sold. This all changed when he began sleeping with his boss's wife and was found out soon after. During this time, he witnessed his master stab his wife to death before committing suicide and felt the urges for his "stimulation" for the first time. Afterward, he began to sell plays by murdering and torturing others to appeal to this newfound urge.
- Arbitrary Headcount Limit : Regardless of how many travelers the player collects, they may only use eight in battle at a time (not including any NPC allies brought into combat). Furthermore, only four travelers at maximum can be dishing out attacks on any given turn.
- In the first version of the game, there were sixty-four summonable party members with each of the eight regions being home to eight independent travelers. Additionally, each traveler would have a random job from the original eight jobs (Warrior, Cleric, Thief, etc.).
- There are eight known ringbearers that each have a ring housing the power from one of the gods of Orsterra in them. These rings also correspond to the base eight jobs.
- Like in the original Octopath Traveler , there are eight regions to explore around Orsterra.
- The villains of each arc have their first initials almost spell out "Octopath"; The first "O" ends up being Or-Sazantos .
- Arc Words : "Man's desire/greed is a bottomless abyss."
- Artifact of Power : The God Rings are a collection of rings that house a portion of the thirteen gods' powers inside of them. Each ring's power gives the wearer of said ring immense strength and slight magical capabilities to the point of being able to easily outmatch skilled warriors. The main plot revolves around recovering said rings after they were stolen from the Conquerors. The Chosen One also has one of these rings and is able to fight against the other ringbearers. The rings also have the power to transform the wearer into their "true form" (typically that of a grotesque monster) as shown by the ring-forms of the ringbearers. While in these forms, the wearer of the ring becomes significantly more powerful and deadly. Such a wearer can even give up their soul to the ring in order to gain even more power at the cost of their free will.
- In the Bestower of All storyline, eight characters from all storylines join together after receiving a letter to come seal away the God Rings. These characters are the Chosen One, Bargello, Alaune, Solon, Richard, Eltrix, Sazantos, and Rinyuu.
- After the Bestower of All is revealed, Sazantos is then replaced by Rondo as a part of the eight central characters.
- During the events of Bestower Of All, Tatloch joins the heroes in stopping Sazantos, with her abilities proving useful in navigating the realm of the dead.
- Background Music Override : The battles you get into as part of the Bravely Default collaboration event play the battle themes from those games instead of the regular battle music.
- Bag of Sharing : The materials you sell are accessible from smithies in every town, including from Kota in the Nameless Town the moment he moves in.
- Battle Butler : In the first fight against Herminia, her personal maid is a combatant with a custom battle sprite. In addition to her master, she is able to hold her own against a full party of eight player characters (despite being significantly weaker than Herminia).
- Big Bad Ensemble : The titular Champions of the Continent, who can be further split into two groups; the Masters and the Bestowers. The Ringbearer Chosen is tasked with taking back the Divine Rings possessed by the Champions.
- Big Fancy Castle : The Chosen One infiltrates Edoras' castle during the siege on Edoras to take back the God Rings from Pardis. This castle is one of the biggest dungeons in the game and is swarmed with enemies in addition to optional mini-bosses .
- Big Fancy House : Herminia lives in one which overlooks the rest of Valore. The Chosen One is first "invited" note In actuality, Tiziano stole the invitation off of gang members the Chosen One fought. into it along with the rest of Bargello's gang, but then must infiltrate the manse later on in the Master of Wealth story.
- Bittersweet Ending : Most of the main story chapters end on a somewhat bittersweet note. In most cases, the Arc Villain is defeated before they can achieve their plans, but it comes at the cost of a lot of people dying, with the heroes having to find a way to restore things when the fighting ends. The "Master of All" story for example ends with Pardis defeated, and war between the major nations stopped, but many people have died, and the land is recovering from the damage brought by Pardis' ambitions. Once the True Final Boss is defeated, the seven corrupted rings are finally destroyed, the world regains their memories of the Ringbearer chosen, and the World of Silence never comes to fruition, but not everyone makes it out alive from the trauma and bloodshed the eight Masters and Bestowers have caused.
- Blue Is Heroic : Aelfric's Ring, which the Ringbearer wields, glows blue as Finis and the maidens gather the rings together. The rest of the God Rings glow red.
- Sonia ends up murdering Lord Taviani and several of his other bodyguards under orders from Herminia. She even attempts to assassinate Bargello and the rest of his gang before being killed by the Chosen One and Bargello.
- Inverted Trope . Pardis ends up stabbing General Mahrez and blames the murder on the Chosen One. In fact, Mahrez was loyal to a fault for Pardis and Princess Elrica and would gladly give up his life for either of them. It just so happened that he would do so in a way he didn't expect...
- Bookends : Richard's Traveler Story starts and ends with him offering people river beans.
- Boss Remix : Each ringbearer's boss theme is a remix of their main theme. note Their "Against..." themes also remix the ringbearer's main themes, but serve as short transitional songs into their main boss theme.
- Bragging Rights Reward : The arena champion units the player gets for defeating them are essentially this, since if the player is capable of beating them to begin with, chances are the player already has a solid enough collection of units that they don't outright need the character in question. The units in question also range in quality, with some being fairly unique for their class, and others being weaker than options the player may already have.
- But Thou Must! : Dialogue windows with Yes or No options occasionally pop up in story chapters, but the game will not continue until the correct answer is selected.
- Several characters from the original game make cameo appearances in this game. In no particular order: Primrose, Simeon, Zeph, Yvon, Lucia, Archbishop Josef, Miles, Heathcote, Ashlan, Noelle, Therese and Helgenish appear canonically within the game's story.
- When Auguste poisons his own son and himself , he secretly has another antidote on his person that he uses so that he won't succumb to the very same poison.
- Inverted in that the heroes do this to Tytos. While the Scarlet Elixir is dispersed over Emberglow, Velnorte distributes the antidote to the Chosen One and the rest of their party. He even taunts Tytos over his absence of an antidote when they square off.
- Cash Gate : During "Bestower of Wealth" Chapter 3, the Ringbearer has to stuff 1,000,000 Leaves in a statue to open the way to the Golden Palace. The Family are bewildered that you were willing to offload that amount of money to help them and all promise to pay you back. Thankfully, the Golden Palace is almost literally made of gold and money, so there's plenty of Leaves and treasures to loot so you can recoup your losses.
- Category Traitor : El is a swordsman from Edoras who actively takes a stand against Edoras by fighting its military. He even is one of the primary combatants in defending Altinia from Edoras' invasion. Despite this, he still believes that what he's doing is right since it weakens Pardis III's strength. In reality, El is really Princess Elrica of Edoras who's been fighting her own soldiers to stop her father from ruling Orsterra.
- Auguste is a Manipulative Bastard who toys with many of his victims in order to gain inspiration to write his plays. He's so good at this that he often acts several steps ahead of his intended victims and predicts their next likely move. This is shown in great detail when he's able to deceive the Chosen One under the persona of Schwartz and guide them along his concocted plot of drama to emotionally debilitate them. While gaslighting them for several days, Auguste also planned out several murders and scapegoats to take the fall over the Chosen One's adventures in Theatropolis. At the same time, he foresaw the Chosen One's every action and planned to eventually kill them in a final act of betrayal. Even further, Auguste is possibly out-manipulated by his repressed personality who wanted The Chosen One to kill him and set up the opportunity to do so.
- Empress Tatloch planted several of her own agents to monitor and supervise the actions of politicians across Orsterra and manipulate them into creating war and unrest across the land so that her army could easily infiltrate and conquer it. She also played a role in stealing the original God Rings and made plans to invade Orsterra ever since her spy Gonska convinced Pardis to go through his plans of world domination . She also treats her soldiers largely as pawns or sacrifices and cares very little for any of their well-being.
- Central Theme : The desires of humanity, and how they can bring fortune and misfortune to the world. The heroes desire a better world while the villains trample over everything for the sake of their selfish desires.
- Clueless Mystery : In the Bestower of Fame storyline, the Chosen One is forced to "solve" one of these to find out who in the Church of the Sacred Flame has a connection to the Black Scarlet. While it is theoretically able to solve upon first playthrough, the Chosen One is given a wide pool of suspects to choose from and few (if any) major clues or motives to deduce who is the true culprit. It turns out that multiple people are associated with the Black Scarlet, so there is more than one possible suspect that is correct to choose from .
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience : The three paths — Wealth is yellow, Power is red, and Fame is blue. This applies to player characters and NPCs alike.
- Combat Hand Fan : The dancer's job can only equip fans as a weapon. How such travelers survive using them against monsters is anybody's question. note One character quest explains that they are used to distract enemies.
- Companion-Specific Sidequest : Each traveler has their own traveler story which is an optional Side Quest they task to the Chosen One. In order to access such stories, you must first have summoned the associated traveler. Each story unearths more of the related character's backstory or furthers their personality.
- The Computer Is a Cheating Bastard : The player is unable to use healing items in battle, but there are several times where enemies can use healing items from the original game to restore themselves.
- Conspicuous Consumption : Herminia's manse is decked out with random objects signifying her abundance of wealth. She even has an entire room filled with a random assortment of things made out of gold and shiny metals.
- Continuity Snarl : In the original Octopath , minor NPC Joshua Frostblade mentions his love Angela when interacting with him. When added as a playable character here, he mentions Angela as well, but Angela is now stated to be his sister, conflicting with what was established in the original game.
- Couldn't Find a Pen : The Have-not leaves a message on the wall in blood after killing Delcado and his men. He later does the same after killing Leopardi .
- Creation Myth : In the beginning, there was only the primordial goddess Orsa who created the world. This is why the world is called Orsterra, as in Orsa's terra. However, she was terribly lonely so she created another god, Finis, and together they begot 13 children, the gods of Orsterra. However, Orsa suffered Death by Childbirth after giving birth to their 13th child and Finis disappeared to parts unknown, forever mourning her death. As told in the main game, the 13 gods finished the creation of the world, Galdera rebelled against his siblings, and the rest is history.
- Creepy Cathedral : The Tytos Cathedral is this. It's even more creepy given the current inhabitants of the cathedral when you explore it.
- The Sunshade theme is reused for Valore, another Wretched Hive settlement.
- Oskha's theme is this. For added effect, the first time this theme is played is done when in a darkened mansion littered with corpses.
- The eight launch 5 stars are generally really good units for when they came out, but tend to fall behind as newer units come out with either more unique abilities, marginally better stats, or have better skills by comparison. For example: Scarecrow is a really strong Hunter, but later Hunters tend to be more outright powerful due to better skills, or unique gameplay quirks.
- The .5 versions of 4 and 5 star units are this compared to their normal, full rarity version. They get access to most of their skill line, and at worst are stronger than the lower rarity units due to having their base level cap be the maximum level cap for the lower rarity. The downside is that they don't get access to their final skill tree, and their level is capped, meaning they Can't Catch Up . Unless the player rolls a full version of the unit, or gets the Sacred Seals needed to upgrade them, they'll eventually fall off due to being unable to get their full skills and stats.
- Cyanide Pill : In the first encounter the Chosen One has with the Black Scarlet, the assassin that was captured by Sazantos for questioning commits suicide by biting his tongue off.
- Damsel in Distress : When Princess Elrica is imprisoned by Pardis III and scheduled for execution, The Chosen One rushes to their aid to save them. Unfortunately, The Chosen One is unable to save her in time and she gets executed as planned.
- Darker and Edgier : Despite Octopath Traveler 's take on tone and mood, this game has quite a bit more dark and complex themes. From Herminia torturing Tiziano by drugging him to the point where he can't even speak out of trauma, to Auguste poisoning his child to mentally manipulate his ex-lover into going insane , this game has its share of dark moments.
- Darkest Hour : The final part of Bestower of All has Sazantos obtain both the Sacred and Accurst Flames to revive Orsa and use her power to erase the world's memory of the Chosen One, leaving them with near-to-none allies.
- Dark Reprise : The Bestower of Fame Ceraphina reveals herself to an imposing organ and choir, but its melody had been used frequently in a gentle violin piece during scenes featuring 'Phina'.
- Deadly Hug : Pardis gives one to Mahrez and ends it by blaming the Chosen One for stabbing the general.
- Dead Person Impersonation : Gonska impersonates both Prime Minister Raum and King Riven . The former is done to dupe the real King Riven into believing he had enough military power to conquer Orsterra (which proves to be his undoing as he's unable to defend his castle from an Edoras siege) . The latter is done to deceive the Sovereign Assembly into both believing King Riven is alive and tipping the balance of their votes in favor of Pardis III's innocence of invading Riven and Altinia.
- Death by Origin Story : A lot of travelers' backstories contain dead parents, lovers, friends, or children.
- Defeated and Trophified : Herminia casts her sisters in gold after she kills them.
- Anytime during the main story or a Travelers Story the player interacts with a character from the original Octopath Traveler , if your first unit happens to one of the playable units from said game, and they are interacting with someone they know but otherwise shouldn't be meeting due to the story events of the first game, the game will instead select your second unit to maintain continuity. For example: If you have Primrose as your first unit during the "Master of Fame" story section where you run into Simeon, it will swap her out because she mentions having not seen him in years in the original game, and similarly if you do Lars' Traveler Story with Olberic as your first unit, it swaps him out, because a big part of Olberic's story is searching for Erhardt, who is Lars' true identity.
- During certain story events where your party is expected to be obliterated in a Hopeless Boss Fight , making the fight drag on longer than expected by bringing an overleveled party member for example will eventually force the fight to close in a loss regardless on the state of your party at the time.
- Disposable Woman : At the beginning of the Master of Fame plotline, a woman asks the Chosen One to deliver her love letter to Auguste. Before the letter is given away, Auguste kills an unnamed actress who failed to properly execute her lines. He then proceeds to murder this besotted woman under the guise of going on a date with her. Even later in the plotline, Auguste poisons his unnamed maid to death before meeting with the Chosen One.
- Velnorte attempts to stop Tytos twice while working for him. First, he gives the Chosen One a letter to give to the Knights Ardante only for that plan to go up in flames. The second time, Velnorte successfully tricks Tytos and the Scarlet Wings into ingesting the impure Scarlet Elixir. This causes Tytos to go around murdering the Scarlet Wings as they transform under its effects alongside weakening Tytos enough into falling at the hands of the Chosen One.
- Jurgen also attempts to betray Tytos in a suicidal fit of rage, though he's unable to even get a hit in against him before being slain.
- Domino Mask : Herminia wears one, although it's worn as a status of wealth.
- The Don : While Lord Taviani is referred to as a don, he's actually second-in-command to Herminia. Although, before Herminia rose to prominence, Lord Taviani was the leader of the Valore mafia and was bequeathed such a title.
- Dramatic Irony : The Unruly Hornburgian Knight NPC in Hell: Hornburg Castle expresses hopes that his master is doing well when you inquire further with him, and his description updates to say that he trained under the blademaster Gundahar. Those who have played Sigrid's Traveler Story will know that Gundahar was killed several years ago .
- Driven by Envy : Pardis' entire reason for wanting to Take Over the World take over the world is because he's envious of not having the most wealth, power, and fame all at once. He even has to justify to himself that his cause is a good one because it'll put aside his doubts of envy.
- Dub-Induced Plot Hole : The localization refers to the afterlife as Hell like in the original game. However, the Japanese version called it Limbo, which explains why deceased characters appeared in the Bestower of All story to be used by Sazantos, as they were implied to have not yet moved on from their death yet . Changing it to Hell ends up opening up a plothole about why heroic characters like Elrica were sent to Hell alongside villains like Tytos .
- Duel Boss : In the Master of All plotline, the player controls Elrica as she fights her father, Pardis. This is the only battle in the game where a one-on-one fight is mandatory.
- Dump Stat : P. Def and E. Def are the usual negative attributes given to Fortune Weapons, due to how badly defensive stats scale in this game.
- Evil Laugh : Almost all of the ringbearers have one.
- Evolving Title Screen : The blue flame in the title screen drastically shrinks after the completion of the Master of All arc. After the start of Bestower of All , the title screen turns black and the sacred flame is replaced with purple accurst flame . During ''Bestower of All'' Chapter VII , the title screen goes completely white, and the flame is absent .
- Experience Booster : You can obtain equipment that can boost EXP earned. Some units can also boost EXP gain for themself and their row partner.
- Eyepatch of Power : Incidentally, Krauser wears an eyepatch and became the second-in-command of Edoras' army through his own merits.
- Famed in Story : Tytos is regularly referred to as a hero by the people of Emberglow and is cherished by its townspeople for his past deeds to an almost fanatical extent. Of course, such legends of him are actually being enforced by the Scarlet Wings, although a great amount of these legends are being told out of the townspeople's volitions. Even more, after Tytos dies, the Church of the Sacred Flame concocts and spreads the story that Tytos sacrificed his life in his final moments in order to kill the evil Velnorte , even though he was killed by the Chosen One and their party. Of course, the Church's reputation would be ruined had the truth been spread, so history had been intentionally rewritten to prevent such an occurrence.
- Fate Worse than Death : After dying tragic deaths, Mahrez, Sonia, and Elrica's spirits are revived and each become forced to fight their closest friends and family in writhing pain. What's worse is that each of their battle sprites has the animated corpses screaming in agony. Even when felled, their spirits are banished by Galdera's flame indicating where they've been sent .
- After finding Rinyuu in the mountains and stopping Jurgen from killing her, Jurgen rushes at Velnorte in a fit of rage in an attempt to shove him off of the nearby cliff face. While Velnorte is able to stand ground, the resulting struggle incidentally pushes Rinyuu off of the cliff. While in the struggle, Velnorte is forced to watch as the love of his life plummets to her death. In actuality, Rinyuu managed to survive the fall and was nursed back to health by a passing hunter, although Velnorte wouldn't come to know this for quite some time.
- Almost immediately after the above event, Jurgen reports back to Tytos and notices that his mother had been called into Tytos' manse. Jurgen begins to question why she's there and shouts in confusion at Tytos. Ignoring the questioning, Tytos asks whether Rinyuu's death had been confirmed to which Jurgen is unable to answer due to assuming she couldn't have survived the fall and not verifying her death. As a result, Tytos is displeased and asks whether Jurgen would like another chance to please him. Jurgen then responds that he would like another chance out of fear. In turn, Tytos declares that Jurgen's mistake to confirm a death shall be substituted. Of course, Tytos then issues the command to execute Jurgen's mother with Jurgen being Title Drop forced to watch in order to confirm her death.
- When you visit Auguste's villa, you learn about the Jennish Gallows, used by a cruel king who would set up two of a criminal's loved ones to hang and force them to choose which one to save. This foreshadows what Auguste will put Francesca through at the end of the chapter, with himself and their son Mikhail as the loved ones.
- In one of his letters, Isla mentions that he once stacked so many books that they fell over and almost crushed him, noting that he needs to organize the archives. In another letter two months later, Isla does end up getting crushed by fallen books, necessitating Feintz and Kilns to save him .
- Former Regime Personnel : The majority of the Black Scarlet is made up from the remnants of Tytos' Scarlet Wings who have sworn allegiance to Ceraphina .
- Pierro is Sanguine .
- Tiziano is Choleric.
- Bargello is Melancholic .
- Fra is Phlegmatic.
- Full-Body Disguise : Auguste disguises himself as Schwartz by completely masquerading his appearance. This disguise is so effective that it is able to fool every single person Schwartz encounters, including Francesca, Mikhail, the Chosen One, and every theater-goer in attendance for the fight between the Auguste imposter and the Chosen One.
- O - O rsazantos
- C - C eraphina
- T - T atloch
- P - P ardis III
- A - A uguste
- H - H erminia
- Gameplay and Story Segregation : Despite the fact that Herminia's Manse burns down at the end of the Master of Wealth arc, it still remains an explorable location afterwards. Finally averted as of "Bestower of Wealth" Chapter II, which retools the location as Herminia's Former Manse.
- Gladiator Games : The slaves born or brought into Leopardi's arena are forced to fight each other to the death as rich patrons watch over them and bet which ones will survive.
- As Fame is one of the main three influences of the game, a plethora of travelers set out on their quests in order to further their own fame.
- The Chosen One also can choose to set out on a quest of pursuing fame (and thereby also pursuing Auguste for his ring). Of course, Auguste himself is also the main antagonist of the Fame storyline and is thus also actively searching for glory.
- Pardis similarly searches for fame and glory among his subjects and subordinates. This is echoed by him being the antagonist of the Master of All storyline which revolves around Pardis being a master over all three main influences (including Fame).
- Gold Digger : Herminia is a prostitute who feigns interest in her clients to drain them of their finances. She also gives drugs to such clients in the form of "Powder" to debilitate their senses so they get addicted to her services. As they continue to come back for her services, she continues to drain them of their money. She even tries to be overtly seductive to any she encounters to maximize her possible wealth.
- Groin Attack : Levina threatens to do this to Delvecchio if he doesn't tell Bargello's gang who employed him. Subverted in that she's able to extract the information from him without attacking him note Even though Bargello and his gang presumably watch the "extraction of information" while it's happening. .
- Completing story chapters can cause some NPCs to have more items via Path Actions that the player can get by doing Inquire Further. However, the game never indicates this is a thing, or what NPCs have new stuff from a look at the town on the map. If you've talked and interacted with every single person in a town, the game will still mark them as done even if they have items, so the new Path Actions can potentially go unnoticed because of that. A player would need to talk to every single NPC to check if they have anything new to even guess that something was changed.
- Related to the above, the Notice This items the player can find in towns will sometimes change to reflect the story progress, so the player can get a few gear materials from the newest dungeon over the previous one. The issue is that the game doesn't tell the player that at all, or which cities do so. For instance: The items found in Sufrataljah are for the dungeon located in the city, but after beating the "Bestower of Wealth" story, the items update to items from the Golden Palace instead, something not told to the player.
- Some monsters from the Bravely series, notably the Chomper line and Rusalka, are fought as part of that event story.
- The second Bravely Default collab made Ringabel, Gloria, and Magnolia into playable units as well.
- Additionally, 2B, A2, and 9S from NieR: Automata can be summoned as travelers.
- Serenoa, Frederica, and Roland from Triangle Strategy appeared as summonable characters during a collaboration event.
- Oersted and Streibough from Live A Live are also present and can be summoned as travelers.
- Nier, Kainé, and Emil from Nier can be summoned as travelers, and Grimoire Weiss was added as a keeper.
- The Final Fantasy IV crossover adds Cecil as a traveler, and a Chocobo as a keeper.
- Galdera's Accurst Flame, which glows a dark purple in contrast to the bright blue Sacred Flames .
- Ceraphina steals Aelfric's Lanthorn and captures the First Flame in it, intending to smother the flame and replace it with Galdera's Accurst Flame .
- Later, Sazantos and Signa use Accurst Flames to prevent the other Guardians of Light from interfering with the murders of the other Divine Maidens and Finis .
- Heroic Sacrifice : Multiple side characters end up pulling this at various points in the story, including Mendoza, King Dudek, Lebrandt, and Gimel .
- Here We Go Again! : The OCT A LIVE events end with Oersted waking up at the Lucrece tournament just before fighting Streibough and both proceed to duel, with the heavy implications in The Stinger at the Archon's Roost that the tragedy of the Middle Ages chapter will still happen, but the possibility of Oersted remembering the events in Orsterra including Streibough's hidden treachery and penchant for illusions potentially altering events this time is left open.
- Elrica's Duel Boss against King Pardis , despite her best efforts, is unable to be won. After breaking Pardis' Shield, he restores it to an unbreakable amount, and then promptly defeats Elrica .
- The battle against the horde of Edoras soldiers at Elrica's execution is unwinnable. While the player can win the first round, they are forced into fight after fight until getting enemies likely way higher than your party's current level, which usually results in the soldiers wiping your party out. If that doesn't happen, the battle automatically ends after a set number of turns.
- The battles against Empress Tatloch and the G'rohan soldiers in the prologue of Bestower of Power are unwinnable due to her constantly sacrificing her own soldiers to heal herself .
- The Black Scarlet also has an enhanced version of the Scarlet Elixir that turns an ingester into a stronger version of a version they would turn into with the normal drug, although the improved version allows the consumer to regain much more of their consciousness. A person's proportions change much more drastically when under the effects of this drug in contrast to the normal version. Such transformed beings are regularly used in the Black Scarlet's military.
- Some ringbearers' ring-forms cause them to turn into this.
- The Hyena : Gonska is this through and through. Regardless of what seems to be happening, he always finds a way to fit in a laugh.
- This is also implied to be the case for Sazantos's mother, Farame, as the Church wanted her to bear a child capable of wielding the Sacred Flame.
- Infinity -1 Sword : The Battle-Tested weapons (which were the most powerful weapons in the original game) are very strong, but they can be outperformed by various reforged weapons. In fact, to upgrade said weapons to their strongest state, one must sacrifice a Battle-Tested weapon to reforge it.
- In the Hood : The Bestower of Fame is primarily depicted wearing a purple full-bodied cloak that hides their identity until it's revealed.
- Item Crafting : Most of the weapons and armor can be crafted via blacksmiths instead of purchased from stores like in the base game.
- Jury and Witness Tampering : In the Sovereign Assembly for determining Pardis III's guilt, both King Solon and Pardis III are witnesses and jurors to the vote. Considering how both are kings with diplomatic ties to the rest of the jurying monarchs, clear bias is established before the vote even begins. On top of that, Pardis III threatens Lord Governor Kanshas into voting for his innocence. To make things even worse, Gonska shows up disguised as King Riven and offers his own form of falsified testimony to sway the jurors' opinions. At the end of the judgment, Pardis III's tampering secures his state of innocence even though the actual vote (without any tampering) would have been four vs two in favor of Pardis III's guilt.
- Kill and Replace : Gonska presumably kills Prime Minister Raum and disguises himself as the dead man to manipulate King Riven on Pardis III's behalf. Then he does the same with King Riven himself .
- Killed Offscreen : Leopardi in the Bestower of Wealth storyline. In the time it takes the party to defeat Mandarino and Remone and follow Leopardi to his mansion, Oskha breaks into the mansion and kills him.
- What Sazantos does to a Black Scarlet assassin.
- Herminia stays in her mansion while it's on fire and burns to death in her room full of gold since she can't leave it behind to get destroyed.
- Pardis III murdered his brother who was supposed to be the new king of Edoras after their father (the previous king) died.
- The Chosen One also brings about Pardis III's death at the end of the Master of All storyline.
- Gonska killed King Riven to help manipulate Riven and the Council of Kings.
- It's implied that Tatloch killed Lord Governor Kanshas and King Dudek and sent their body parts to the other rulers of Orsterra to threaten them.
- La Résistance : One forms in the town of Sufrataljah to overthrow the monarchy forcing them into slave-like conditions. Spearheading its charge is Oskha , who employs some violent methods to overthrow the leadership of the town. Tired of being treated like slaves in the middle of a desert, the people of the town seem all too eager to join.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia : Sazantos combines the power of the Accurst Flame with Rondo's Sacred Flame to burn away everyone's memories of the Chosen One.
- Late-Arrival Spoiler : The collaborations with Bravely Default and Live A Live assume the player is familiar with the plots of both games and massively spoils them.
- Lazy Backup : Even if you have more than 8 travelers, if your active party dies, it's game over.
- Level-Locked Loot : Characters can only equip weapons and armor if they are at or above that equipment's level.
- Level-Up Fill-Up : Leveling up completely restores a character's HP and SP.
- Herminia is purported as the richest person in all of Orsterra and is practically the ruler of the town of Valore. She also happens to be the leader of her own mafia empire and commands great fear and respect among her subordinates. On top of that, she is heavily lusted after by many of the richest and most influential people across the land adding to her layers of fame.
- Tytos was once a legendary soldier in the Knights Ardante whose battle prowess made him renowned as a hero across the land of Orsterra. In particular, his efforts in rebuking the invading Southern Tribesmen were so effective that the Church of the Sacred Flame awarded Tytos with the leadership position over the fledgling town of Emberglow. His remarkable methods in converting convicted criminals into soldiers under his command was also viewed as revolutionary. Furthermore, his legend only continued to grow under his leadership of Emberglow as the townspeople "praised" Tytos for his every action. Even the Church of the Sacred Flame aided in spreading these legends as they used Tytos as a prime example for other members in the Knights Ardante to emulate.
- Auguste is a playwright whose scripts are adored and used around Orsterra. In addition to that, he's also a beloved actor that many women fall for. As he is also referred to as the " Master of Fame ", it stands to reason that he is one of, if not the most popular person in all of Orsterra. Many conversations have Auguste as the center topic, especially in his hometown of Theatropolis.
- Loves Only Gold : Herminia has a particular affinity towards collecting anything made of gold no matter how impractical it is . She even has an entire room filled with her collection of various gold objects that don't happen to be displayed in her manse.
- In addition to Herminia being called the Godmother by her family and surrounding ones, the Chosen One joins the Bargello family (headed by the titular Bargello), who is, in turn, a subordinate group of Lord Taviani. Fittingly, Lord Taviani is directly under the command of Herminia.
- After Tytos is killed, the people of Emberglow treat Tytos as the mighty hero who slew the villainous Velnorte and sacrificed his life so that everyone could live. Velnorte is then noted as the person who created the Scarlet Elixir and spread it over the town in an attempt to kill everyone. Because of this, Velnorte is misremembered as the sole villain of the events in Emberglow.
- When Pardis kills Mahrez, he blames the crime on The Chosen One and labels them as a criminal. The people of Edoras are quick to believe this and demand for their execution even though the two were quick friends.
- While Tytos is a formidable combatant in his own regards, he was being closely monitored on by Ceraphina the entire time since obtaining the Warrior God Ring. This is because the Bestower of Fame gave Tytos the ring and was secretly using him to further their goal of reducing the Church of Sacred Flames' power to become a new god.
- Empress Tatloch was secretly using Pardis III and his empire to weaken the continent of Orsterra so that she could easily invade and conquer it for her own people.
- Oskha is the one who gave Herminia her God Ring as part of his plan to have her accumulate wealth then steal it afterwards to fund his revolution.
- Master of Illusion : Gonska and Pelagia both are experts in this field of illusionary magic. Fitting how they're also siblings.
- Meaningful Funeral : When Sonia is killed, the New Mafia throws a funeral for her atop the cliff where she and Bargello planned out their grape heists when they were children. The New Mafia also throws a funeral for Tiziano in the same location to an even bigger crowd of people when he passes away.
- Metal Slime : The cait species are rare enemies that can be fought to give much better rewards than their enemy companions. That said, they are quick to flee combat, are incredibly bulky , and rarely stay around long enough to be killed. On top of that, there are several different rarities within the Cait species with rareness being proportionate to how good the rewards are for defeating them. Fortunately, the Caits that are fought after watching advertisements or are found as Elite enemies never flee, ensuring the player can always defeat at least some that they encounter.
- Mirror Character : In the Conviction Gameboard of the Triangle Strategy collab, each of the Triangle Strategy characters (sans Serenoa) has a counterpart in the Master of All cast: Benedict notes that he'd like to receive a few tactical pointers from Solon, Frederica admires Elrica for being a princess who fought for what she believed in, and Roland relates to Richard's newfound responsibilities as king.
- The Master of Fame storyline begins with this. At first, the Chosen One happens to go to Theatropolis' theater and meets a lovestruck woman who's too nervous to deliver a love letter to Auguste. After agreeing to deliver it on her behalf, the Chosen One accidentally witnesses Auguste choking an actress to death in front of his Cult of Personality .
- Some of the endings in the Conviction's Gameboard are tragic and depressing, but they are always followed by the fireworks and victory jingle you get from completing a board.
- Multiple Endings : The Conviction's Gameboard has six different endings, with completing the first five necessary to get the last "true" ending.
- The first part starts with the Lucrece tournament between Oersted and Streibough for Alethea's hand in marriage, only for a dark power to crash the event and send the three to Orsterra.
- Memoirs of Oersted - Part 1 takes place before the tournament, with Oersted and Streibough mentioning Hasshe and Uranus; the previous heroes who slew the Lord of Dark and Oersted holds them as his inspirations.
- Several items from the game appear as accessories, such as the "Geta-Load-Of-These-Geta" from the Twilight of Edo Japan chapter.
- When starting a major boss battle in the Skew areas part of the event, the battle intro is the iris-in triangle from the game, complete with "Megalomania" as the theme.
- At the end of Part 1, Streibough tries the same ploy he would've later used to trick Oersted into killing the King of Lucrece by disguising him as the Lord of Dark and expecting Oersted to slay him in a mad panic, this time disguising Alethea as a giant monster. This time however, Oersted sees through the deception. The chapter also concludes with the " To Be Continued " screen from the end of the Middle Ages chapter.
- In Part 2, a ghost named Wa'tanabe appears, who died in a freak accident and his son is orphaned as a result, continuing the Running Gag of children named Watanabe (or something similar) losing their fathers in major incidents. You can Entreat a "Trifle" from him, which is just as nigh-useless as it was in the Middle Ages chapter.
- O. Odio takes the form of Oersted wearing armour themed after Sin of Odio from the remake.
- No Name Given : The king of Riven is never given a name and is simply referred to as King Riven (granted, "Riven" is at least his last name ).
- No-Nonsense Nemesis : As soon as Tytos realizes he's dealing with a fellow ringbearer he immediately invokes his transformation, as opposed to the other bearers who either ignore or attempt to manipulate the Chosen One.
- Off with His Head! : When Elrica is executed by her father, this is how she dies.
- Ominous Latin Chanting : Several ringbearer themes have this in them.
- Ominous Opera Cape : As a playwright and actor, Auguste wears one everywhere he goes.
- One-Word Vocabulary : Fra is extremely quiet and rarely ever utters anything. The few times he does speak, he really only says one thing: Fra : It's go time.
- Opening the Sandbox : Before the player can explore the rest of Orsterra, they must complete the first chapter of their selected Master of... storyline.
- Painful Transformation : When under the effects of the Scarlet Elixir, the ingester's body contorts into a Humanoid Abomination . Said transformation is incredibly painful and induces great agony on the transformer. This is made even worse by the fact that such a person also becomes insane when under the effects of the Scarlet Elixir and attacks anything while being semi-conscious of what they're doing.
- Parental Abandonment : Both Auguste and Francesca leave Mikhail to die of poison and effectively state that they've never truly loved him. Mikhail is partially conscious when all of this happens, so he experienced the abandonment in full force.
- Castle Edoras is only explorable during the finale of Master of All . Should the player miss clearing out the enemies and getting all the chests/items, it is impossible to get them again. At the very least, later events allow the player to complete the quests relating to killing enemies.
- Some NPCs can only be interacted with after Master of All but before the Bestower arcs.
- Pimped-Out Dress : Herminia purposely wears one to symbolize her presence of wealthiness.
- Posthumous Character : Helga's old master, the founder of the Rock Firm whose death and legacy play an important role in her Traveler Story, appears as an interactable NPC in Hell: Cragspear, where he is given a name and more backstory .
- Pre-Asskicking One-Liner : Eltrix gives a pretty good one before fighting the Souls Sazantos summoned in the Bestower of All prologue . Eltrix : They seem to be lost. Shall we show them the exit?
- Previous Player-Character Cameo : Despite this being a prequel, Primrose suddenly appears for a brief cameo in Master of All when the Chosen One and company head to Sunshade's tavern for the secret meeting.
- Psycho Serum : The Scarlet Elixir and its improved strain are this.
- Public Execution : Pardis III executes his own daughter, Princess Elrica, in front of the people of Edoras, the Chosen One, his other daughter (Princess Alaune), and a grand portion of his army, just to try and break the Chosen One and corrupt Aelfric's Ring.
- Punny Name : Marta Morrow note more tomorrow , who has items that can be purchased every 20 hours. This is also the case with his dead twin brother, Morta Morrow .
- The Queenpin : Herminia is dubbed the Godmother and is the sole leader of her underworld syndicate. She also is so rich that she became the leader of Valore on top of her family.
- Bargello is the leader of the New Mafia, a gang (later family) concerned with dismantling Herminia's reign over Valore and her network of drug selling.
- Oskha is the de facto leader of the Sufrataljah rebellion and has great contempt for the monarchy, much like the other townspeople.
- Retraux : Like the base game, this game's graphics are heavily based on the graphics of older generations of video games (in glorified 2D-HD).
- In the Master of Fame storyline, Schwartz reveals that he's actually Auguste and has been manipulating the Chosen One from the very beginning as an elaborate plot to kill them. While posing as Schwartz, Auguste had his most devout follower pose as himself in order to not arouse suspicion for his would-be disappearance. This works so well that the Chosen One ends up killing the follower before Schwartz even reveals himself as the real Auguste and transforms into his ring form. However, at the end, it's revealed that Auguste actually wanted The Chosen One to kill him .
- In the Master of All plotline, three separate King Incognito moments happen in varying succession from one another. Trompeur turns out to be King Solon in disguise, El is secretly Princess Elrica, and Charles is actually Prince (later King) Richard.
- In the Bestower of Fame plotline, the leader of the Black Scarlet is none other than Phina, whose real name is Ceraphina. Furthermore, she is a cult leader who worships Galdera and has been trying to dismantle the Church of Sacred Flame from the inside out.
- Ring of Power : Quite literally, the God Rings exemplify this trope.
- Rousing Speech : King Solon delivers one to his troops as they prepare to advance upon the invading Edoras soldiers.
- The Church of the Sacred Flame has many ties to sacred fires and holy flames. Even their primary deity of worship, Aelfric the Flamebringer , is represented by a bright, blue flame. Things of worship such as Aelfric's Lanthorn and the First Flame also point towards the presence of divine fire.
- Sazantos can cause the Sacred Flame to materialize from him or around his weapons as a testament to his faith in Aelfric and as his position of Flameguard of the God Rings. As demonstrated on a Black Scarlet assassin, this flame is deadly.
- The God Ring the Chosen One wears glints with a strong blue flame whenever a fellow God Ring is nearby or whenever summoning another traveler.
- Sadist : Auguste regularly tortures and kills in order to gain "stimulation" for writing his plays. As a result, he's obtained a violent attraction to other's sufferings to the point where begins to critique them on how to better show their suffering.
- Save the Princess : In the Master of All storyline, The Chosen One rushes to Princess Elrica's aid when she is captured by her father and sentenced to execution. Unfortunately, the Chosen One is unable to save her and she ends up a victim of execution.
- Say My Name : Right before blowing up the G'rohan ship , Gimel screams Richard's name.
- Secret Police : The Scarlet Wings function as the primary military force of Emberglow but also have a tendency to enforce espionage tactics in order to disguise themselves among the populace. By doing so, they are able to report on anybody who seems to be discontent or resistant with how Tytos is ruling the land. These people tend to disappear or wind up dead due to the Scarlet Wings, although the populace of Emberglow seems none the wiser.
- Delan Poe, the poet you first meet in Theatropolis, is named in reference to Edgar Allan Poe .
- King Solon rallies the combined force of the Altinian army and Edoran citizens by saying "Countrymen! Trusted friends! Lend me your ears!" referring to the opening lines of Mark Antony's famous speech in Julius Caesar .
- The twin archers competing in the Ri'tu Cup are given the epithet "Fujin and Raijin," referencing the brother gods of wind and thunder from Japanese Mythology . Appropriately, they attack with wind and lightning skills.
- Siamese Twin Songs : Each of the ringbearers has an "Against..." theme and a battle theme. The "Against..." song is relatively short and perfectly loops into the ringbearer's battle theme.
- Sprite/Polygon Mix : As per the HD-2D series, this game features a variety of sprites interacting within a 3D environment.
- State Sec : The Scarlet Wings function as the military force of Emberglow, the personal guard of Tytos, and Tytos' agents to send after those who dissent against him. After Tytos is killed alongside most of the Scarlet Wings, the remnants of those remaining in the Scarlet Wings rebrand themselves as the Black Scarlet and serve a mysterious entity much to similar regard as they did to Tytos. As the Black Scarlet, they begin a string of murders against the clergy of the Church of the Sacred Flame in order to enforce the religious doctrine of their master. They also attempt to murder the Chosen One due to their knowledge of who Tytos really was, but are unable to do so.
- Storming the Castle : The final chapter of the Master of All storyline involves the Chosen One and their allies doing this to the castle of Edoras.
- Jurgen attempts to carry one out against Tytos, although he's unable to take down his target.
- Pelagia attempts one to take out Alaune and the Chosen One, only to be stopped by Lebrandt .
- Gimel blows up one of the ships in Tatloch's fleet while he's on it to help turn the battle in favor of Orsterra .
- The Syndicate : Herminia's criminal underworld expands across the continent and is helmed in Valore where she resides. Due to her vast riches, she is able to assume control over the entire city of Valore and becomes its leader. While in charge of Valore, Herminia continues to grow her sphere of influence as she and her family become the richest people on Orsterra. Once she is killed, several key members of the family vie to be in charge of the entire syndicate by claiming how they're the new kingpins. This in turn causes the richest family members to assassinate one another to end up as the sole leader. It turns out that most of these assassinations were actually carried out by Oskha in an attempt to end Herminia's syndicate once and for all.
- Take Over the World : Both Pardis III and Empress Tatloch's end goals are this.
- When Cerro reveals he's been sent to kill King Solon, the king requests that they take the fighting outside the tavern they're currently in. Bizarrely, Cerro accepts this proposal and travels into the deserts of the Sunlands to fight with the king's entourage. Even more strangely, King Solon & his appointed guards don't make any attempts to run away or call out for help while they exit the tavern and march into the desert, but instead follow alongside the assassin sent to kill them. Albeit, this is somewhat justified in that King Solon was attempting a Scheherezade Gambit to get the Chosen One an opportunity to fight Cerro whilst distracting Cerro from his attention on the king. This ends up working as the Chosen One kills Cerro before he's able to even attack the king as he planned to.
- Implied; When Bargello's gang fights Rosso, the background for the fight is that of the Woodlands even though the fight is taking place indoors. When the fight is over, everyone's still indoors and no mention of ever going outside is brought up. As such, it's presumed that they went outside for the fight and somehow made their way back indoors before it finished.
- Tampering with Food and Drink : Aschim reveals in his defeat dialogue that he had the food in the Arena waiting room poisoned in an attempt to hinder his competitors.
- Theme Song Reveal : Ceraphina's battle theme actually has the same drum line and other minor similarities to Tytos' theme while being heavily distorted by the vocals of the song . Fitting considering Ceraphina gave Tytos the Warrior God Ring, monitored Tytos' works in undermining the Church of Sacred Flames, assumed leadership regarding the Scarlet Wings after Tytos died, and was a member of the Church of Sacred Flames despite pursuing ulterior motives (much like Tytos was).
- Timeskip : One year passes between the Master and Bestower storylines.
- Trading Bars for Stripes : Tytos prefers to use this method for recruiting his soldiers and subordinates. In addition to the Scarlet Wings (the personal military unit of Emberglow composed entirely of reformed criminals) Velnorte also is initially recruited onto Tytos' side through this method.
- Trauma Inn : The various inns around Orsterra can completely heal a character's HP and SP regardless of what previous crises they've faced.
- Throne Room Throwdown : Pardis III's final battle takes place in the throne room of Edoras Castle.
- Throw the Book at Them : Scholars hit enemies with tomes in combat, unlike how the class used Staves in the original game.
- Twin Banter : Interestingly averted. Mandalino and Ramone are twin slaves who had survived the longest in Leopardi's slave arena. As a result of being enslaved and fighting others to the death for so long, they are incapable of speaking or reading. Thus, no twin banter is possible between the two.
- The ringbearers each have multiple themes that transition into one another before battling them. The general pattern for the occurrence of these themes go: ringbearer's main theme, against ringbearer theme, and ringbearer's battle theme note However, only the against ringbearer theme and their battle theme have a direct transition into one another while their main theme is played before both.
- The ringbearer's main themes on occasion also change depending on the cutscene they're used in. If used in such a way, the audio will repeat the beginning of their song until a certain line of dialogue is displayed. Once the dialogue is displayed, the melody will progress further into the song and become more complex. In turn, the song then repeats in different sections depending on the current line of dialogue in the cutscenes.
- Video Game Cruelty Potential : You can use Path Actions to take NPCs valuables, but one instance stands out. Mikhail (after the Memorial Pendant is Entreated) : Everything that's important to me... gets taken away.
- Villain with Good Publicity : Almost all of the ringbearers have glorious publicities due to their large amount of influence. For example, Tytos is considered a hero by the people of Emberglow, Auguste is a beloved playwright whose tales are feats of storytelling, and Oskha is the leader of the Sufrataljah rebellion whose subordinates are willing to die for their superior.
- Tytos the Thunderblade drains the BP of those in the front row and he can inflict Terror on your party, significantly reducing your ability to use Boosts. Breaking him will remove his BP drain from the front row, but he'll still inflict Terror with some of his attacks.
- Auguste the Prince of Thieves inflicts a death timer on characters in the front row, which will instantly kill them if it reaches zero and can only be slowed down by swapping rows. He also has a load of Status Effects he can hit your party with, and some of these effects prevent you from swapping rows (i.e. Sleep). He'll also shift his weaknesses every time he recovers from a Break. Breaking him will remove the death timer.
- Herminia the Huntress drains the SP of those in the front row. This is particularly nasty because SP recovery is slow and, at such an early point in the game, some abilities may cost up to a third of a character's maximum SP. Breaking her will remove the SP drain from the front row, but some of her attacks will still drain SP.
- Weaponized Ball : Gonzales wields a singular iron ball attached to a chain note More accurately, an iron wrecking ball. in combat. Somehow, he's risen up in the Edoras army to be considered as General Krauser's right-hand man despite his interesting choice of weaponry.
- Clerics use staves .
- Scholars use tomes .
- Merchants use lances.
- Warriors use swords .
- Dancers use fans .
- Thieves use daggers .
- Apothecaries use axes.
- Hunters use bows.
- We Hardly Knew Ye : Pathos and Apatheia are introduced as being a part of the tribe that protected the God Rings for centuries. They also are some of the only humans capable of sealing away the God Rings and their powers. As such, one would think they would have amazing combat abilities. Of course, you'd be wrong since they die almost immediately after you meet them by being murdered by Gonska. Though they are later revealed to be alive and are eventually joined by three other members of their tribe.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist : While Tytos pursues overwhelming power and not only uses drugs that make people monsters, his ultimate goal is to amass enough power to eliminate the Southern Tribes once and for all to protect Orsterra, who had previously attacked and caused a lot of chaos in the land.
- Wistful Amnesia : The Guardians of Light have the vague sense that they're forgetting someone important after Sazantos wipes their memories of the Chosen One .
- A partygoer in Herminia's manse outright says that Herminia would do this to further her wealth.
- Francesca also applies to this due to her choice of giving the antidote to said poison to Auguste instead of her child, Mikhail. This is made even worse when Mikhail begins crying out for his mother to help him and she chooses not to listen. Not even Schwartz pointing out the Logical Fallacies of her actions convince her to aid her child. Moreover, the poison inflicted on Mikhail is described as incredibly painful and can kill within minutes. Francesca does nothing upon learning this.
- Yank the Dog's Chain : After everything they went through in Master of All , Alaune, Richard, and Solon are right about to sign the long-awaited peace treaty between their nations in Bestower of Power —and then Tatloch's emissaries interrupt them with a declaration of war.
- You Have Outlived Your Usefulness : When Tytos' butler accidentally spills his master's dinner on the floor, Tytos eventually says this as he spreads the Scarlet Elixir in his butler's face. In fact, Tytos leads the conversation by reassuring the butler that everything's fine before Tytos says that the butler was never useful in the first place.

Helldivers 2 Buffs 30 Weapons And 11 Stratagems In Latest Update
No man's sky player manages to cast line to a whole different planet, the elder scrolls online: gold road review - disappointingly tone deaf, quick links, a well-rounded team, break and boost, increasing influence, path action priority, caits every day, starting strong, take your time.
Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent is a single-player gacha-based RPG set years before the original game. Similar to Octopath Traveler, you will gather a band of heroes of eight different classes, and adventure through the world of Orsterra.

The world of Orsterra is constantly changing with new updates to the game, and new content, characters, and story quests are added consistently, leading to tons of information to process when you're first starting. Let's take a look at a few tips to help you get started in Champions of the Continent.
Updated September 28, 2022: We've updated this guide to include a video that shows you our best tips for getting started in Champions of the Continent.
There are eight different classes in Champions of the Continent, each with their own weapon and unique skills. The best way to do well in combat is to be able to exploit the enemy's weak point , which is best done by having a wide range of weapon and element types .
Because of this, for general exploration and story quests, you should aim to have one of each class in your party , giving you access to at least all eight weapon types, and even a few different elements as well. This will let you hit enemy weak points, leading to more victories in battle.
All enemies in Champions of the Continent have weaknesses. Usually, enemies are weak to a combination of elements and weapon types . When striking an enemy's weakness enough times, they will enter a broken state , in which they will take more damage from all attacks .
On the other hand, characters will gain one Boost point each turn . Then, they can spend up to three Boost points at once to empower their next attack , increasing its damage and causing normal attacks to hit the enemy more times.
The break and boost system dictates the main flow of combat, where you hit enemy weak points until they are in the broken state , then boost your attacks and unleash powerful skills while the enemy is vulnerable .
Wealth, Power, and Fame are the driving forces behind the characters and story of Champions of the Continent. As you progress, you'll increase your Influence over Wealth, Power, and Fame . Increasing their levels will grant you small bonuses to your party's stats and Rubies .
You can increase your Influence by Guiding new characters, finishing story quests, and upgrading the skill board of your characters . As you increase your Influence, you will also be able to interact with new NPCs using Path Actions . Increasing Influence will make you slightly more powerful over time , and will reward you with precious Rubies for Guiding new characters.
With the Influence System, there are also three types of path actions related to Wealth, Power, and Fame: Purchase, Contend, and Entreat , respectively. Using these Path Actions, you can acquire materials that you can sell, exclusive equipment , and other useful items like Experience Nuts .
As mentioned above, certain NPCs will require a higher rank of Influence to use Path Actions on, so be sure to increase your Influence to gain access to a wider selection of NPCs . Additionally, when you reach a new town, try using your Path Actions on all the NPCs in the area to gain useful items.
Caits are rare enemies that have a chance to appear in battle, and will grant high amounts of experience and Leaves if you are able to defeat them. Additionally, you can find several stationary Caits around the world that can be battled once a day . While random Caits you find have a chance to escape, stationary Caits won't escape you , allowing you to defeat them for their rewards.
In addition, you can watch three ads each day to summon a Cait , which you can fight for experience and Leaves. Defeating Caits is one of the best ways to level up your party, so be sure to take advantage of these features each day to grow stronger.
When you start your journey in Champions of the Continent, you will start with one of eight five-star characters . Then, shortly after completing the tutorial, you will be able to use Rubies to summon new characters . While you could take the character you get and begin your adventure, you may also wish to reroll your account for the chance at a better start .
Lynette, Viola, and Fiore are popular 5-star targets for rerolling, and will give you a strong start in the early game . Rerolling can be a tedious process, so we only recommend doing it if you want the absolute best start possible, and are willing to repeatedly do the tutorial of the game for a while.
Champions of the Continent is a single-player RPG , with no time-limited events like other mobile games in the genre. This means that most of the content added to the game is permanent , save for rare crossover events. The entire game can be played at your own pace , allowing you to complete story chapters and boss fights when you want to.
While there are daily quests and other things to do each day like hunts and developing the Nameless Town , these can be completed at your own pace, and will never disappear from the game altogether.

Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent Beginner’s Guide + Tips
Octopath Traveler: COTC is a single-player RPG that features story-driven gameplay and a gacha system for characters.
This guide will show you all of the information you need to know as a complete beginner, along with some useful tips to help you play the game more efficiently.
Starting Out (Rerolling & Choosing a Path)
The influence system, #1: main story quests, #2: side story quests, #3: traveler story quests, all jobs & what they do, turn order meter, method #1: level up, method #2: learn skills (job boards), method #3: equipment, method #4: limit break, method #5: awaken, method #6: rarity/grade up, tip #1: hunt down caits, tip #2: hunt down elite monsters, tip #3: use “find” for random caits and rewards, tip #4: always talk to npcs, tip #5: always complete your dailies and weeklies, octopath traveler: cotc do’s & don’ts.
Upon starting the game, you will be given a free random 5★ Traveler.
Any of the 5★ Travelers that you can potentially get from the starting rolls can carry you to the endgame.
Though if you only want the best 5★ Travelers and are willing to reroll for them, then here are my suggestions:
- Lynette (Healer)
- Viola (Debuffer & Breaker)
- Fiore (Balanced DPS Unit)
After choosing your starting 5★ Traveler, you will be presented with three paths to take: Wealth, Power, or Fame.
Each path will let you start off in different zones with different NPCs, enemies, story quests, and bosses.
But since you can change which quests you want to prioritize later anyway, feel free to choose whatever path you want to try out first .
This game has an Influence System for the three paths — Wealth, Power, and Fame.
Improving your Influence allows you to get Rubies and even account buffs such as Gold/EXP acquisition boosts.
You can improve your Influence levels by farming Influence through the following methods:
- Pulling Travelers in the gacha
- Upgrading a Traveler’s Job Board
- Clearing story quests
Three Kinds of Story Quests
Clearing Story Quests is one of the best ways to farm Influence. It also allows you to farm tons of free rewards like Rubies and Leaves.
Here are the three kinds of Story Quests in the game:
- Main Story Quests
- Side Story Quests
- Traveler Story Quests
Out of all three Story Quest types, Main Story Quests will give you the most Influence and rewards.
Each path has its own Main Story Quests, and the type of Influence you earn depends on which path that MSQ belongs to.
TIP: When it comes to Main Story Quests, it is advisable to clear the chapters of each path one at a time.
If you do this, you’ll have time to strengthen your party before each chapter.
Side Story Quests allow you to explore storylines that are mostly unrelated to the main storyline.
While they’re just optional, I still recommend accepting these quests whenever you come across them.
You can farm Rubies here — not to mention that Side Story Quests in this game are actually good. They’re not just throwaway filler quests unlike in other RPGs!
Traveler Story Quests are unlocked as soon as the Travelers required for them are obtained by you — in the gacha or otherwise.
You can find these TSQs in random places on the world map, but mostly in cities where there are a lot of NPCs.
Make sure to actively seek them out. While they’re optional like Side Story Quests, they also allow you to farm much-needed Rubies and Influence.
Each Traveler has a Job, and every Job type has a specific role to fulfill in a party.
Here’s a brief guide on each Job type and what they can do for your party.
Warriors are balanced units with decent DPS and relatively high Hit Points. They use Swords and they excel at soaking up damage for your party whilst also providing some damage output.
Apothecaries are tank-healer hybrids who use Axes . They excel at healing their party and whittling down enemy HP with their decent offensive abilities.
Merchants are high Defense units with Provoke skills that attract enemy aggro. They use polearms (spears) and they’re the best at tanking damage from the enemy.
Dancers are MDPS-buffer hybrids who use Fans . They excel at giving your party all kinds of buffs and attacking enemies with element-based skills.
Thieves are high-speed attackers who use Daggers . They excel at debuffing enemy units and tearing apart their shields regardless of weaknesses — allowing you to Break them easier.
Hunters are one of the best DPS-oriented Jobs in the game. They use Bows and they excel at dealing high damage through single-target and multi-target attacks.
Scholars are the best MDPS units in the game. They use Tomes and they excel at single-target and multi-target attacks using element-based skills.
Clerics are the main healers of any party. They use Staves and they excel at healing party members. They can also provide decent DPS with offensive element-based skills when they’re not healing.
TIP: If you’re a beginner, I recommend that you create a party that covers at least half of these Jobs — preferably even all of them.
A multi-Job setup will help you Break enemies more often since their Shield Count is still relatively low in the early game.
Combat Guide
Combat in Octopath Traveler: COTC follows the traditional turn-based strategy gameplay we see in most conventional JRPGs, but not quite so.
Here’s a brief guide on how to navigate the Combat menu and how to use the features in it.
Clicking the “Attack” button will execute all of the actions you’ve chosen for each Traveler in that Turn.
If you click the “Attack” button without choosing a specific action for each Traveler, they will automatically do normal attacks in that turn instead.
Skills are learned through the Job Boards and cost SP to cast. The higher the impact of the skill, the higher the SP cost will be.
They are further categorized into elements and target types, so make sure to read skill descriptions first by holding the Skill Icons to bring them out.
The Turn Order Meter is decided by one stat that all of your units and enemy units have — Speed.
The higher their Speed, the faster they’ll be able to get their turn as soon as you click the “Attack” button.
You can Boost your unit’s actions by swiping a specific skill/attack icon you want to boost — as shown in the image above.
Your Boost Gauge (orange orbs) increases by one orb every turn and is consumed every time you boost your units’ actions.
Boosting your attacks and skills allow you to either increase their damage, effects, and duration (for buffs & debuffs).
TIP: If you want to Break an enemy faster, boosting the normal attack of an ally whose weapon they’re weak against is recommended.
This is because the Shield Count of an enemy is decreased not by total damage, but rather by hit counts.
To Switch, simply click on the icon highlighted in the lower-right part of the image above. Switching allows you to swap front row and back row units.
There are two rows in a team’s formation:
- Front row (can attack & can be attacked)
- Back row (can’t attack, can’t be attacked, & recovers HP and SP every turn)
The main reason why you should Switch often is to keep low-health units out of harm’s way and to let them recover HP and SP in the back row.
TIP: You can also pull off great combos by switching.
Try switching to your back row units whenever the enemy is in a Break phase and Boost their attacks. They’ll deal significantly more damage regardless of the enemy’s weakness.
Breaking enemies involves decreasing their Shield Count (the blue shield icon under their names) to 0.
You can do this by attacking them with weapons or element-based skills they’re weak against.
After being broken, enemies won’t be able to do anything for 2 turns and your units’ damage will also be significantly increased.
TIP: You can make the most out of a Break phase by applying DEF and MDEF Down debuffs to an enemy right before you Break them.
Doing this requires some degree of understanding of the Turn Order Meter and the Speed of your units, so make sure to review them properly!
Powering Up Units
There are several methods that you can use to beef up your Travelers to make them more effective in combat:
- Learn Skills (Job Boards)
- Limit Break
- Rarity/Grade Up
Leveling up your units increases their stats across the board.
You can do this by either feeding your units Experience Nuts or by taking them into battle.
TIP: If you have a lot of Experience Nuts in your Inventory, make sure to distribute them equally among the Travelers in your party.
Do this in the early game at least, since you’ll benefit more from having multiple level 15s than a single Level 25 whose low-level teammates keep dying on them.
You can earn Job Points by leveling up.
These Job Points can be used on your Job Boards (or your Learn Skills page) where you can unlock nodes containing stat boosts and skills.
TIP: Some nodes may not be worth unlocking — especially in the early game.
What’s worth it and what’s not is up to you, but make sure to check each node before unlocking them to save your Job Points.
Most equipment can either be bought from NPCs or crafted in the Smithy. Some you can get as mail or quest rewards.
Equipment pieces can be categorized according to their level. The higher the level, the more effective they’ll be against enemies.
TIP: While it isn’t necessary, I still recommend that you equip your Travelers with equipment pieces that are at least the same level as your current enemies.
Equipping level-appropriate gear will help you conserve your HP and SP when going up against enemies of the same or higher level.
Limit Breaking increases a unit’s level limit — allowing them to reach higher stats through leveling up.
You can do this by using either of these materials:
- Traveler Guidestones
- Bronze Guidestones
- Silver Guidestones
- Gold Guidestones
Traveler Guidestones are obtained by pulling duplicate Travelers in the gacha.
Bronze, Silver, and Gold Guidestones can be farmed from Daily and Weekly Tasks, Exchange Shops, or Events.
TIP: You can use Traveler Guidestones together with the other Guidestones for Limit Breaking depending on the rarity of the Traveler.
Each Awakening Stage gives your units various stat boosts along with additional skill slots (only at certain stages).
Like Limit Breaking, this method also requires Guidestones — except for 5★ Travelers who need Awakening Stones instead .
The main method of obtaining these Awakening Stones is pulling duplicate 5★ units from the gacha.
TIP: Awakening all Travelers up to Stage 2 is recommended for that extra skill slot. Though as a beginner, you’ll be fine without it regardless.
If your Traveler is either at 3.5★ or 4.5★ rarity, then you can unleash their full potential by using Seals and Sacred Seals .
You can farm Seals and Sacred Seals from Hunt Dungeons which you’ll unlock later in the game.
So if you’re a beginner, then you don’t have to worry about this method at all.
Both 3.5★ and 4.5★ Travelers are nearly identical to their full-starred versions. You’ll do just fine with them up to the middle to late stages of the game.
Octopath Traveler: COTC General Tips
While Octopath Traveler: COTC is more of a laid-back casual RPG that you should play at your own pace, there are still some things you can do to improve your quality of gameplay.
Caits are rare monsters that appear in random places all over the World Map. They drop lots of EXP and Leaves when killed.
There are many different kinds of Caits — each of them as harmless as the other (they only deal 1 damage per hit). The rarer the kind, the more EXP and Leaves they drop.
Make sure to kill them as soon as you find one. Show no mercy!
Even though they don’t drop as much EXP or Leaves as Caits, I still recommend hunting Elite Monsters every day.
They spawn in random places on the map — mostly in hidden locations. They also respawn a while later after they’re killed, so you can come back to kill them again whenever you want.
They drop expensive items which, when sold to the Smithy, will give you tons of Leaves in addition to crafting materials.
The “Find” feature gives you 3 random Cait battles and 3 random items. Pretty cool, huh?
The only catch is that you need to watch some good ‘ol advertisements first before you can claim them.
Regardless of whether you hate ads or not, I highly recommend using the “Find” feature — especially if you’re a beginner.
The average runtime of each ad is 30 seconds, and that comes out to about 3 minutes on average per day of watching ads. Not a bad tradeoff for potentially huge rewards!
NPCs are the lifeblood of every story-based video game. That much is also true for Octopath Traveler: COTC.
This is why you should always talk to NPCs and use the “Inquire” feature on them. This feature allows you to obtain items from them or even recruit them as temporary allies!
The chances of you succeeding in taking items from them or recruiting them as allies depends on which path they acknowledge and how high your Influence is on that path.
Your Daily and Weekly Tasks are one of the best sources of Memory Shards and Guidestones in the game.
You can also consider them as consistent sources of Rubies — allowing you to farm over 300 Rubies per month.
If you want to earn a free multi-pull at the end of every month, then don’t forget to complete these tasks regularly!
Here’s a brief list of things that you absolutely should and should not do as a beginner in Octopath Traveler: COTC.
- Do your Daily and Weekly tasks
- Do talk to NPCs regularly
- Do hunt down Caits every day
- Do hunt down Elite Monsters every day
- Do use the “Find” function in the Menu every day
- Do go to the Smithy regularly to sell materials and craft equipment
- Do go to the Inn to completely restore all of your Travelers’ HP and SP
Don’ts
- Don’t be satisfied with underleveled equipment
- Don’t spend Rubies on anything but the regular banner if you’re F2P
- Don’t spend too many EXP Nuts on one Traveler
- Don’t solely focus on clearing Main Story Quests only
- Don’t waste Sacred Flames (you can only use them one time to fully heal your team)
- Don’t fail more than five times when battling or haggling with NPCs
- Don’t be a hero – it’s smart to flee as soon as you encounter an enemy you can’t beat
An average enjoyer of memes, movies, anime, manga, light novels, and video games. He also LOVES gambling — er, playing all sorts of gacha games mostly F2P in his free time.

Square Enix's Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent is Android's first entry in the series. The beloved IP originated on the Nintendo Switch in 2016, considered a love letter to the old-school RPG style with a few shakeups. Nonetheless, newcomers can experience Champions of the Content without prior knowledge of the series. The game is a prequel with plenty of character-collecting gameplay to explore on your favorite Android gaming phone .
Our starter's guide will teach you the basic mechanics of Champions of the Continent to help you breeze through the first chapters of the game while getting the most bang for your Rubies with the upgrades and gacha pulls.
Getting started on Octopath Travelers: Champions of the Continent
Moving your character is limited to a 'point and click' style on a touch screen, though you can move faster by swiping your finger. Your character automatically stops once a corner in your path is reached. You can tap on the arrows to move in the desired direction or swipe.
Battle basics
While in combat, characters can use skills based on their equipped weapon and the magic tied to their class, along with regular attacks. Each character includes a stat for HP (your life points), while your SP (your spell power) determines how much magic and skills are used over a battle's duration. You win battles by reducing your opponent's HP to 0 before they reduce all of your character's HP to 0.
How to start battle engagements in Champions of the Continent
Battles are random encounters, but some unique enemies, more challenging enemies, referred to as Elite Enemies, appear on the field. Otherwise, you'll be sent to another combat screen as you walk around the area.
Combat is turn-based, paying homage to the old classic JRPG days. To spice things up, players can control the tides of the battle using the familiar boost and break mechanic found in the mainline Nintendo Switch game.
Exploiting enemy weaknesses and break mechanic
You can repeatedly exploit an enemy's weak point by using weapons and skills the enemy is weak against. Eventually, the enemy's guard breaks after tanking so many attacks, leaving your party open to unleash a devastating blow.
How to see the enemy's guard
Progress for breaking the enemy's guard is visually indicated through the display of cracks on the shield icon with a number next to the enemy's HP bar. The more cracks on the shield icon mean you're getting closer to breaking the enemy's guard. Succeeding the break mechanic renders enemies incapable of action for a short period, which could very well turn the tides of a fight in your favor.
How boosting works in Champions of the Continent
Adding the ability to boost invites a more frugal playstyle in a fight. Boosting your attacks/skills can dish out multiplicative damage in a single instance, but you have to wait patiently for your window. You can control who to boost and how many to delegate at a time. Your number of boosts refresh as you perform actions that are unboosted.
Choose your story
You can choose between three tales: Power, Wealth, or Fame. Each tale focuses on a corrupted villain wreaking havoc on the lives of the locals.
Tip : After completing the tutorials and deciding your story's destination, auto-saving is enabled once you gain control over your character.
Mastering the art of battling
Controlling up to eight party members can be a handful, but it is vital. The game punishes you for playing with less than eight in your team as you start approaching Elite Enemies/bosses. Essentially, you're required to use the game's character switch system while enduring grueling battles.
Navigating the switch system in Champions of the Continent
The most consistent way to heal HP and SP is by using the switch system. This system allows the four inactive back-row characters to heal HP and SP on every turn. After swapping to the front row, your back row characters can still use skills/attacks on that same turn. You'll need to coordinate when your characters swap in and out during vulnerable moments in battle.
Tips and tricks
- Enemies have multiple weaknesses, so attack with different weapon types and magic to identify what they are.
- Save your character boosts until you break the enemy to maximize damage.
- When an enemy is ready to unleash a strong boosted attack, chain all your magic and skills to force the enemy to break and interrupt that attack.
- Recuperate characters that have taken a big hit, use healing magic, and switch them to the back row.
- Visit the weapon shop periodically and sell materials. Remember to buy and upgrade your equipment.
- Form your team with at least one healer, one tank, one warrior, and one DPS; your healer is the glue, while the tank and warrior hold the frontline together.
- Spend your resources on a good healer; the healer is the lifeline.
- Go Cait farming if you need to acquire more experience points for your units; one nets you at least 100k experience.
Enlisting more travelers
A massive part of Champions of the Continent is recruiting new companions to join your quest to experience each epic tale with you. You are provided free pre-determined characters at the start, so you're not left empty-handed. However, be aware that the starting characters only offer 3-star ratings, which means they cap out at level 40. You'll have to learn quickly not to get too attached to your travelers; the game incentivizes you to upgrade to higher rarities or put the work in to upgrade your levels, pressuring you to dabble into the Guide system to seek upgrades either way.
Rarities and Guidestones
When you acquire a new character, it's important to find the rarity. Each character offers a star rating that reflects their rarity. So the higher stars your character holds, the rarer they are, which means they have a higher starting level cap. For example, 3-star characters cap at level 40, 4-star at level 60, and 5-star at level 80.
An exception to the rule
You may encounter characters at 3-star and 4-star that hold unfilled stars; these characters are treated one grade higher for their Awakening potential but will offer the same level cap as their respective star rating. So if you see an unfilled star for a 4-star character, you can classify the character as a 4.5 star. The unit is nearly 5-star level in power but requires a class up material to truly shine.
How to use the Guide system (Guide 10)
- Tap on Menu > Guide .
- Tap on Guide (300 Rubies) > Guide (300 Rubies) to confirm. Pulling for ten characters guarantees a bonus for a higher rarity character.
How to re-roll in Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent
Thankfully re-rolling is simple and stress-free. You can re-roll the starting 5-star unit or simply aim for better gacha results after collecting your free Rubies. We've outlined the steps below:
- Install and launch the Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent app.
- Sign in as a guest account.
- Follow the in-game introduction and claim the 5-star character.
- After finishing the series of tutorials, collect all the free Rubies in your mail, then perform a Guide 10 (a ten pull).
If you don't like the results from the gacha and want to re-roll, tap Options > Delete Account . Don't forget to register the account once you're happy with the results to avoid losing your data.
Limit breaking in Champions of the Continent
Raising the character's level cap is known as Limit Breaking. Limit Breaking requires character-specific Guidestones or regular Guidestones (Bronze, Silver, or Gold). Depending on the star rating of your character, it will require a specific grade for limit breaking. These generally are:
- Bronze Guidestones for 3-stars
- Silver Guidestones for 4-stars
- Gold Guidestones for 5-stars
How to Limit Break a traveler
- Tap on Party > Travelers .
Another guaranteed character upgrade is Awakening. Like Limit Breaks, Awakening also consumes your Guidestones. Your character can awaken up to four times. Awakening increases your stat attributes and adds another battle skill slot.
How Influence and Feats work
Feats are your daily, weekly, and achievements list. You're rewarded once you've completed the set tasks or achievements. Rewards can range from Guidestones to Rubies and Influence points. Tip : always check and claim your rewards.
Influence has three categories, each having a separate rank: power, wealth, and fame. Improving the rank earns precious Rubies and rewards passive skills/bonuses. We advise you to level up influence as these skills/bonuses are helpful additions to your adventures, such as shop discounts, more allies (extra limited skills), and extra party damage.
