Discover the Napali Coast by kayak. This 17-mile Ocean Kayak Adventure begins on Kauai’s north shore and ends at Polihale Beach Park on the west side of Kauai. The day consists of a  12-hour day of coastal paddling, sea caves, plunging waterfalls, hanging valleys, secluded beaches, and caving. The Napali Kayak tour is an epic ocean journey. You will paddle beyond the valley of Kalalau , past the famous arch of Honopu, and into the turquoise waters of volcanic sea caves. While you go along the coast, you will paddle next to playful dolphins, sea turtles, and possibly a rare glimpse of the Hawaiian monk seal.

Kayak through an ice-cold waterfall that makes its way to the ocean from the mountains of Waialeale and paddle into a magical open-ceiling cave. Sit on top kayaks with self-bailing scuppers and comfortable backrests. Your kayak has a rudder, improving steering and forward paddling efficiency.

The tour is a one-way paddle downwind. At about the halfway mark on the coast, you can make a beach landing and spend a few hours discovering Milolii, have lunch, and rest for the remaining part of the tour. While at Milolii, you can beach comb, hike up the valley, and visit an ancient Hawaiian fishing village. The final destination is Polihale Beach Park. The dramatic cliffs of the Napali Coast meet the longest white sand beach of the Hawaiian Islands. Here, a shuttle van will pick you and your kayaks up, and you’ll be transported back to Hanalei with an arrival around 7:30 pm.

Restrictions: This tour is offered only in the Summer. Age Requirements: 16 years old. This is a strenuous journey.  Physical Requirements: Participants should be comfortable in the water, in good physical condition, and not prone to sea sickness—about five to six hours of intermittent paddling.

Cancellation Policy: Because of the popularity of this tour and the fact that we can only guide 12 clients per day, our cancellation is 72 hours. Cancellations of tours within the 72 hours (before the activity date) will be charged at 100% of the activity cost.

Amazing amazing kayak tour with a great guide company! We were the first boat tour out on the water this year and our guides Annie, Mitch and Mason made sure we had the best time! Super engaging. We felt safe and cared for the entire time, even though it was a windy day — rain, sun, rainbows, wind — we had it all. Long but super fun day of paddling in one of the most gorgeous places on earth. We got to go in a cave, the guides explained Hawaiian history and animal facts to us. Annie risked her phone and took some wonderful photos of us. Definitely worth doing!

Trip Overview

A one-day guided sea kayak adventure along Kauai’s Na Pali Coast — the “Mount Everest” of sea kayaking. This will be a long, impressive day of warm coastal paddling and caving along the monumental Na Pali Coast with your island guide(s). Marvel at sea caves, plunging waterfalls, hanging valleys and secluded beaches. Paddle beyond the verdant valley of Kalalau, past the arches of Honopu, and into the azure waters of a volcanic sea cave. Encounter Dolphins, tropical birds and upon occasion, the elusive Monk Seal.

Later, pulling ashore, you’ll spend a few hours stopping to rest and have lunch on the quiet beach of Milolii. At Milolii you can swim, beach comb, and visit an old Hawaiian fishing heiau (fishing shrine). Polihale State Park, where the cliffs meet the sand dunes, is your final destination. After a refreshing shower, a van awaits, ready to whisk you back to the Wailua River Marina around 7:30 p.m., with your memories of the cliffs and warm sea.

Safety Notes

Before you sign up, please be aware: This is the roughest and longest sea kayak trip offered on the planet. It is NOT for everyone. After pioneering and doing this tour for well over 30 years, Kayak Kauai has learned a few things - most of all that this tour is not for everyone. It is a not a tour to talk someone into. For good reason this trip is called "The Everest of Sea Kayaking"! Remember not only is it a 17 mile paddle, but surf launching and landings are often the norm. You'll usually have surf to negotiate at our take out at Polihale. The wind is a double-edged sword. When the winds don’t cooperate it is a long… long… and for some, a very strenuous day. When the winds are up you will “sail,” down the Coast for a price. These same wind that help, can also agitate the ocean and when accompanied by a ground swell,can make your kayak harder to manage with consequent “flip overs” the norm. Another companion of rough seas is sea sickness. Sea sickness is a real concern. There is no refund if you are pulled out. A seasick person does not paddle very well and can hamper an expedition. For many experienced sea kayakers, they find the water off the Na Pali Coast to be generally some of the biggest waters that they have paddled. Many paddlers bail out because the seas were intimidating. As with sea sickness, there is no refund.

• Renting your own kayaks and exploring on your own is certainly possible in Kauai. Our rentals include two-person and single person kayaks as well as paddleboards for your enjoyment. Kauai has several rivers and bays that are not accessible via a tour company so renting watercrafts can really open up access to some cool places.

"The 35’ Deluxe Catamaran “Cadillac of the Caves” was AMAZING! Do not miss this when you’re in Kauai. Brian and Capt. Nate were fun, kind, knowledgeable, patient…all the things. They personally made sure every single person was comfortable and having fun the whole time. They shared tons of knowledge about Kauai and the Napali coast, played music, made us laugh, and were obviously capable and at ease on the ocean. The deluxe catamaran was big enough to be comfortable, but small enough to fit in caves and be an exciting ride. My husband and 7 year old sat in bench seats in the middle of the boat, while my 10 year old and I rode up front for a more exciting ride. We stopped to snorkel and they provided good equipment. They also put out snacks and drinks while we were in the water. They made sure everyone had enough time in the water and didn’t feel rushed back. Our family all took Dramamine the night before and again about an hour before we got on the boat, and we all felt fine the whole time. Do take similar precautions if you’re at all worried about sea sickness. I cannot recommend this company and experience highly enough. It was one of my favorite days ever! It was the experience of a lifetime to take in the gorgeous scenery in such a fun and exciting way. The experience and memories are worth the price. Book it!

It all started while two brothers were paddling the Alaskan Inside Passage.

In 1980, Micco and Chino Godinez paddled Seattle to Skagway Alaska. During that 5 month expedition, they logged more than 1,000 miles. They paddled, talked, and yes, even argued about starting Kayak Kauai which after a few more big adventures, they founded four years later.

Micco and Chino never tire of turning visitors on to the technicolor splendor of Kauai’s majesty, where giant green sea turtles drift amid darting neon streaks of tangs and wrasses. Off the beaten track, afoot or afloat; they love these latitudes and it shows in the relaxed attitudes of the staff.

Our brand new 35ft Deluxe Power Catamaran was custom designed for touring Na Pali Coast and was built with our guests in mind. She’s the perfect size for Na Pali; large enough to handle the seas and keep you comfortable, and small enough to fit into the various sea caves when conditions permit. She’s also the only boat in our fleet that has a marine head (a teeny tiny restroom) if a true emergency situation arises. For those seeking an adventure ride but don’t want to sacrifice comfort; this modern cutting edge vessel, won’t let you down.

Carefully select a tour below that has bullet points that agree with your priorities. In general, expect MUCH calmer seas in the morning with greater marine life encounter odds. In the afternoon, the sea state gets a lot more “exciting” with increased winds, but the pay off is seeing Na Pali Coast light up as the sun positions itself perfectly to showcase Na Pali’s beauty. Experience the Nā Pali Coast on a Boat Tour

Witness the incredible beauty of Kauai on the Nā Pali Coast. The nai’a 🐬 (dolphins and porpoises) cruise along the catamaran, so have your camera ready for amazing pictures! Captain Lani and the crew share Hawaiian culture and history along the way.

As we travel up north towards Nā Pali, you see the island of Niihau in the distance, approximately 17 miles away. It appears just a stone’s throw away.

Get up close and personal with majestic cliffs, sea caves, and a cascading waterfall. Then, we stop at a pristine, protected reef, Nu’alolo Kai, to swim and snorkel. At one time, it was an active, productive Hawaiian fishing village. You may see the honu 🐢 (sea turtles) swimming in their own environment.

Snorkel gear and instructions are provided. Foam noodles are also available.

A deli-style lunch is available ; build your own sandwich of turkey, ham, two types of cheeses, two types of bread, lettuce, and tomatoes. For dessert, there is fresh pineapple and vanilla cinnamon cake. Sodas and juices are also available.

• Make sure to bring a water bottle or a Hydro Flax with water! Only metal water bottles allowed to promote environmentalism and protect the oceans.
• Wear comfortable clothing — swimwear, cover-up, shorts, and a t-shirt. Protect yourself from the sun. Wear a long sleeve t-shirt and a hat or visor.
• Bring a bag or backpack with a towel and a camera.
• Wear comfortable footwear, slippers, or sandals. You will be barefoot on board. If you need to wear footwear, wear your own aqua shoes. However, do not walk down with the aqua shoes as they will gather the red dirt. Red dirt and seawater make for red paste — not good for Catamaran Kahanu.

Your safety is our priority. Captain Lani and the crew are experienced watermen — we guarantee your comfort, enjoyment, and satisfaction. During winter months, ocean conditions can be rough in the Nā Pali Coast. If needed, Captain Lani will go to calmer waters.

This Na Pali Coast snorkel tour will showcase the beauty of the Kauai stop and its Hawaiian marine life. The Morning Na Pali Tour starts with check-in at 6:30- 7:00 a.m. It may be a little cooler than our afternoon tour, so bring a windbreaker.

We depart Hanalei Bay around 7:30 a.m. and return approximately 4 hours later at around 11:30 a.m. Snorkel equipment, flotation devices, and a waterproof dry bag are provided.

Please note that snorkeling or entrance into sea caves is not guaranteed. Our goal is always to provide the best tour possible, given the day’s weather and ocean conditions. Safety is priority #1 always.

If a sunset sail is at the top of your Hawaii to-do list, consider this cruise. Aboard the company's 65-foot catamaran, you'll be treated to views of a sunset, rocky cliffs, sea caves and local sea life while gliding along the Napali Coast . Cruises are limited to 49 passengers. The tour also includes a hot dinner, as well as mai tais, beer and wine. Tourgoers describe the crew as exceptional and say the views are fabulous.
