BAGUIO CITY TRAVEL GUIDE | Itinerary + Budget + Map [Updated 2022]

Baguio Travel Guide Itinerary Budget Map Blog

Baguio City has been called a lot of things—the City of Pines, the Summer Capital of the Philippines—but what it is, really, is my favorite city in the Philippines. It is arguably the hub of tourism in Luzon, especially during the month-long festivities of the Panagbenga Festival every February. It has the best thrift shopping places with its ukay-ukay stores. A food trip paradise with its numerous restaurants lining Session Road. And a weekend-getaway haven with its numerous tourist spots and general accessibility from Metro Manila. Its year-round cool and temperate weather only adds to its charm as a tourist destination. I know I’m not alone in nominating Baguio City as their favorite city, but if you’re still unconvinced, here’s a travel guide to convert you to become a certified Baguio Junkie.

UNDERSTAND BAGUIO

Baguio City is located in the Cordillera Administrative Region in the Philippines. Geographically, it is located within the province of Benguet, but it has since separated from the province when it became a chartered city. It is classified as a highly urbanized city with a total of 129 barangays. It is bordered on the north by the town of La Trinidad, west by Itogon, and south and east by Tuba. Elevated 1,470 meters above the sea, it was established by the Americans in 1900 as the Summer Capital and a Hill Station--the only one of its kind in the whole of Asia.

WHAT'S THE BEST TIME TO GO TO BAGUIO

It's generally okay to visit Baguio the whole year round, but the best time to go to Baguio depends on what you're looking for out of your trip. If you want to experience the coldest weather in the Philippines, go during the months of November to February. The cold peaks during January where temperature can go down to 6.3 degrees Celsius. If you want to avoid a massive rush of tourists, avoid the Panagbenga Festival dates which usually happen on February. The summer months of March to May can also be a good time to go to Baguio to get a little bit of respite from the heat. Note, however, that the weather can only go down to 25 to 16 degrees, the latter being during the dawn hours. These are the peak months of Baguio, be sure to book your hotels ahead of time and be prepared for the tourist crowd. The rainy months of June to October can be also a romantically beautiful time to go up to Baguio. It does get really cold during these months plus you get to experience a foggy Baguio. I would suggest these for tourists who have visited before—those who need not go to the usual Baguio tourist spots and can trade these for simple strolls around the city with umbrella on hand and long visits to cafes and restaurants. This is also the best time to avoid the crowd.

BAGUIO TRAVELER ESSENTIAL INFO

● Currency is in Philippine Peso. USD 1.00 is about PHP 58.00. ● ATM machines, banks, and money exchange kiosks are readily available and are spread throughout the city. The main hub is around Session Road. ● Type A (two flat vertical pins) is the electrical outlet used in Baguio City ● Always bring a jacket when traveling to Baguio City—it does get cold, even during the summer months. ● Baguio has a score of low when it comes to crime rates. The city is quite safe during the day, and even at night time. During my numerous visits to Baguio, I have never once felt unsafe or have fell victim to any type of crime. ● In cases of emergency and hospitalization, Baguio has a lot of hospitals plus a couple of General Hospitals and Medical Centers.

HOW TO GET TO BAGUIO CITY

Baguio City is located some 250 kilometers from Metro Manila and is elevated 1,450 meters above sea level. Buses are the usual transportation of choice when going to the city and travel time usually clocks in at six hours (from Manila). There used to be flights in and out of the city in years past, but it has been discontinued indefinitely . Flights will resume to Baguio (Loakan Airport) from Cebu starting December 2022. The city can also be accessed through the Ilocos Region and other parts of Luzon through various provincial bus lines and vans.

GETTING AROUND BAGUIO CITY

Jeepneys and taxis are the main modes of transportation in Baguio. Although it can be said that taxi cabs are more prevalent in the city than jeeps. This is probably due to the fact that taking a taxi in Baguio City is very cheap since most don’t need to use their air-conditioning—saving a lot on gas. Cab drivers are also very honest, giving back your change up to the last centavo. Flag down rate is ₱35.00. It’s still, however, cheaper to ride jeeps whether you’re going back to your hotel or some tourist spot in the city. Most tourist destinations in Baguio is, more often than not, accessible via jeepneys. Most of the terminals are located at the Igorot Park, beside Burnham Park, and the streets along the Baguio Public Market. If you’re not familiar with these places, don’t be shy to ask locals where the terminals are for any given destination. Minimum fare is ₱11.00.

TOURS IN BAGUIO CITY

SPEAK BAGUIO

Filipino and English are widely spoken in Baguio City but their main language is, surprisingly, Ilocano.  I was under the impression that Ibaloi, which is closely related to Pangasinense (another popular language in the city), or Kankana-ey, which is prevalent in the northern parts of Benguet Province would be more dominant. Here are a few phrases in Ilocano then to help endear yourselves to the locals (especially when haggling at ukay-ukay , lol).

WHERE TO STAY IN BAGUIO CITY

There are uncountable number of lodgings and accommodations in Baguio City. They range from cheap backpacker types to really posh hotels. It would take a dedicated website to list each and every inns, hostels, motels, dorms, homestays and hotels in Baguio City, so I’ll simply list down those where I’ve stayed in. The best area to stay in at Baguio is near Burnham Park since this is where most of good restaurants are in Baguio are. It is also convenient since the jeepney terminals are also just within the area. Granted that most of the big hotels around this area are expensive, you can find cheaper options along the side streets that are still within proximity to the park. And although it’s usually very easy to get a lodging as you arrive in Baguio City, I advise that you book ahead, especially during the busy Panagbenga and Christmas season.

WHERE TO EAT IN BAGUIO CITY

Baguio City is a food-lovers paradise. The city has every cuisine you can think of in every style of restaurants possible. You can dine cheaply on Chinese dishes on one day and splurge on the same dish on a different restaurant the next day. But since you’re in Baguio, might as well chow down on greens more—fresh veggies are quite abundant in the area, making them really affordable. Most restaurants crowd around the Session Road area, but be adventurous and try some out of the way places too. Also, check out curious art cafés that makes dining almost secondary.

BAGUIO ESSENTIAL EATS

When in Baguio, these are some of the essential and unique food and delicacies you need to try at least once. These are the food Baguio is famous for.

• Baguio Garlic Longganisa • Strawberry Taho • Fresh Strawberries • Peanut Brittle, Choco Flakes, & Sundot Kulangot from the Baguio Public Market • Hot Choco from Choco-late De Batirol • Ube Halaya from Good Shepherd • Strawberry Cake from Vizco's

WHAT TO SEE & DO IN BAGUIO CITY

Baguio City is one of the most visited regions in Luzon. With its slew of tourist spots that keep visitors going back, year after year, it really isn’t hard to reckon why. From pine-laden parks, to native villages. Horse-riding to boat-paddling. Trail hiking and strawberry pickings. Art museums and haunted houses. One can say that tourism is Baguio City’s middle name.

WHERE TO SHOP & WHAT TO BUY IN BAGUIO CITY

Shopping for pasalubong and keepsakes is part and parcel of visiting Baguio City. One simply cannot go back home without bringing jars of strawberry jams, choco flakes, kinky barrel-man carvings, tacky shirts, keychains, and ref magnets with you. Add the fresh veggies and strawberries that can be bought very cheaply almost everywhere and you’ve got more than you can probably lift back home. You’d definitely run out of space for those walis tambo and giant kutsara at tinidor carvings very quickly if you don’t watch it.

INTERACTIVE BAGUIO MAP

Baguio city sample itinerary with travel budget.

A two-day weekend tour is usually not enough to cover most of the tourist attractions in Baguio City. A three-day itinerary can do it, but for a more relaxed pace, I advise that you extend your vacation to at least five days. Spend those two extra days to visit the PMA grounds and the Balatoc Mines (now closed), or simply walk around the city—try out various restaurants, have coffee at the numerous cafes, and simply enjoy being in Baguio City. The Baguio itinerary I made can be for a day trip, an overnight stay, or a two-night stay. Traveling to Baguio City is not expensive. There are wide range of lodgings to choose from which can suit everyone’s budget. Food is also no problem since restaurants and eateries abound. Getting around is cheap, you can either ride a jeepney or take a cab, which is also surprisingly affordable, or better yet, walk. The city is both good for both budget backpackers and luxury travelers. Along with this Baguio itinerary is a budget guide. It details jeepney fares (most of the jeepney terminals are near Burnham Park or the public market, ask the locals), minimum food cost, and the cheapest room rental cost. Note that I purposely didn’t include the transportation fare of actually going to and from Baguio since that can differ greatly, depending on where you’re coming from. And as always, this budget guide is intended for the absolute minimum one can spend for a three-day Baguio trip based on the itinerary I listed below (not including the restaurants, shopping, and pasalubong).

Baguio was my dream destination when I was growing up to almost adulthood. I didn't get a chance to go there until I was already in college. Loved the place....I still do even, after I have been to many places in the world. Nothing beats first love.

I have to agree Bert, even with its haphazard development, I still love Baguio :)

Detailed and thorough. Ang galing naman idol! Ü

Salamat Kath, will add some more Baguio tourist spots and restaurants in time. Andami ko pa rin gustong bisitahin dun at mga blog backlogs :P

Thank you sa info! I am looking for a hotel in baguio.

No problem Marco! The ones I posted above range from very cheap to very expensive :P

No problem Maya! I'm always envious of people who have Baguio City as their hometown :)

Astig nito, kumpleto :) Nakakamiss tuloy ang Baguio, kaso parang ang dami nang tao ngayon dun, crowded na lalo kapag Panagbenga o Mahal na Araw...

Anjo, January is actually the perfect time to visit since this is the coldest months in Baguio. Just time your visit before or after the Panagbenga to avoid the tourist crowd :)

Thanks for the map!!! Ang dami kong nahanap na itinerary pero yung map talaga yung pinaka-helpful :) now i'll be able to manage efficiently yung pagkakasunod-sunod ng trip :)

No problem Jhenpot, glad you find my Baguio itinerary helpful :)

This blog serves as our guide during our visit in Baguio last weekend. We really enjoyed our trip although we missed some attractions listed like the PMA and Laperal house due to time constraint. One thing I've noticed missing is Rito's. Taob ang bulalo ng Batangas sa kanila! Thanks to the author of this site. Very helpful!

Haven't tried Rito's yet, actually this is the first time I've heard of them. Care to share their location? :)

It is located at Engineer's Hill, i guess a kilometer away from Victory Liner terminal. Just a small eatery though but serves great bulalo. :)

Thanks a lot! Will try that bulaluhan when I return to Baguio City. :)

can't wait to go there this coming november :)

magkano kaya ang budget. ? dlwa kame eh. susunduin namen ung itinerary mo.. salmat ng marmi

Hi Arthur, that would depend on where you would choose to stay. For the food, 200 per meal per person should be more than enough. For transportation, it's about 50 to 100 pesos per transfer to the tourist spots. :)

This is so informative. Kudos!

Thank you Wyatt, hope you get to use it on your Baguio trip :)

Great Guide, Balak namin pumunta ng wife ko sa December 25 , hehe. Ayaw namin gumastos ng malaki kasi may mas malayong trip kaming sa feb. Dahil sa guide mo sir mejo nagka-Idea para makapagplano. galing!

No problem Jerome! Let me know if you find something new in Baguio so I can update this guide. Enjoy your trip! :)

maraming salamat sa blog na 'to may idea na din ako kung pa'no ko ba-budgetin yung budget ko pag pumunta kami dyan. hehehe very very very helpful. thank you, Sir. :)

No problem sir! Hope you have a fun Baguio getaway! :)

It has been a long time since I last visited Baguio. Thanks to your site I now have an idea how to maximize our vacation and where to go for 3 days. Thank you!

No problem Adrian, enjoy Baguio's cold weather!

I am planning to go next month. any suggestion where can we stay (5 travelers) that closer to the main attraction and syempre mo good price din... I still contemplating kung mag co commute kami or mag re rent ng car with driver.... all suggestion is greatly appreciated.. Salamat po

Hi Lea, I think Baguio Holiday Villas is the perfect place for you. It's walking distance from Burnham Park and price is competitive specially for big groups. They also have a kitchen, so you can cook your own meals and save a bit. For me, commuting to Baguio is always better, more economical. Once in Baguio, you can always take a taxi, which is very cheap compared to the ones in Manila. :)

I'm planning to surprise my boyfriend to a Baguio getaway this end of the month. thanks for this blog. Now I know where to start. Specially the map, it's really a big help.

Glad the Baguio tourist spot map helps! I was initially hesitant on putting it up as it was such a task, but now I'm glad I did :)

The cover photos you make are hypnotically beautiful! The images, typography, the little details. Everything! You're one of the best, no-shit, no-nonsense bloggers out there. Galing na magpicture, galing pa magsulat. Idol!

Thank you Patrick for the kind words, means quite a lot to me to get these kinds of compliment from readers :)

Kuya Max, wala ng PNKY cafe. It was replaced by another resto but I forgot to take note of the name.

Aww talaga? How's the new restaurant? Same ba nung old PNKY, rebranded as new one or totally new talaga?

Guys on my next vacation i have a plan to bring my family in baguio, and we will stay for 3 days this is our first time to visiti the summer capital of the philippines. I am just curious how much do i need for our travel total of 7-8 persons. and renting a lodging house is more advisable rather than to check-in on a hotel? Bcoz we want to buy our own foods in the market and cook. Please help me guys.... Thanks :)

Hi Win, renting a lodging house is definitely much more affordable than a hotel since you're a big group. If you have a bit of a budget, I suggest you stay at the Baguio Holiday Villas (listed above). They have a kitchen so you can save up a bit on food, plus it's near Burnham Park and the public market. :)

Hi just wanna ask if there is any 24hours trip via van in cabanatuan termina going to baguio or what is the last trip ?

Hi, I'm really not familiar with the Baguio van schedule from Cabanatuan City, but I don't think it operates 24 hours

I have been there too. Ilocos and Baguio in a 5 day trip. visit my blog for tips http://sowhatright.blogspot.com/2015/01/going-north-ilocos-baguio.html

Yung Itenerery po ba is base sa pagkaka sunod sunod ng distansya ng mga Tourist Spots? Thanks! :)

Yes, the trip itinerary is set in conjunction with the distances of Baguio tourist spots from each other :)

You are heaven-sent! This is truly legit :)

No problem, enjoy Baguio's sights! :)

ilove this site:) complete info:):):)

Thank you Lei! I will post an update for Baguio's tourist spots and hotels soon :)

Hello po. Thank you sa very complete na guide na ito. May sample itinerary pa. Ask ko lng po, what hotel best to stay base sa Day 1 ng itinerary sa taas? Salamat po.

Hi Anonymous, when it comes to location, I'll have to choose Hotel Veniz :)

hi, updated paba itong article na to???

Yes, I updated it February this year :)

Good day I'd just like to inquire if is it ok to relocate in Baguio?

I'm not really sure as I haven't really tried living in Baguio :)

Detailed informative and helpful guide. :)

One thing though, estimated budget trip to baguio? For two person. :)

Hi NinjaLiit, it's quite hard to estimate a budget for a trip because everything would depend on where you're gonna stay, where (and how many times) you're gonna eat, and what mode of transportation you're gonna take.

Thank you very much for this Sir! This will serve as my guide this weekend (Nov 19-21)! I hope I can maximize this time away from Manila. :)

Hi Mich, glad to help! Enjoy your Baguio trip! :)

hi christian... thanks for the info... tanong ko lang... mas ok bang mag commute kysa sa mga tour package? for 2days? wala kc akong idea 1stime ko lang sana ppunta sa Baguio since its my bday this dec17 hehe ano kaya mas bet? thanks

Hi, if you have the budget, I'd say go for the Baguio tour package. It is more convenient and will lessen the chances of you wasting time by transferring from one place to the next. The downside is, it would be more expensive. If you're more adventurous, go for the DIY commute to and in Baguio. It is quite easy and relatively cheap to get a taxi in Baguio. Plus you get to stay on each tourist spot in Baguio on your own time. :)

hai Christian, have u heard about cafe in the sky (la presa) ? do you have any info about that place? how to get there commute or taxi? cos i researched it some of them said taxi fare go there 150-300 1 way, some said 800++ round trip. please advice me if u have any info. thx.

Hi Bobby, I haven't been to that place yet. Will try it out next time I go up to Baguio again :)

Hi Christian, Sadly the LGU already restricted access to Sto Tomas. There was a directed recently disallowing tourist to go there. Café in the Sky is not operating anymore but they still have the hotel. You can go to that if Café in the Sky will confirm your reservation ahead in the checkpoint after the Green Valley area. It is sad as this is my favorite area in Baguio, Im sure with your masterful hand with the camera, pictures of this place would entice more and more tourist but again sadly, no one can go there anymore except those who live there

That's too bad as I really haven't been to that area yet. Hopefully they reopen it in the future. :)

Hi Christian! I am planning to go to Baguio for a 4-day vacation alone. :) :) I am pretty much on a very tight budget so this is very helpful. :) I'm hoping to get a cheap room. Thanks!

Hi there, good luck on your Baguio trip! Did you get a cheap accommodation? :)

I love your blog!!!! Thank you so much!!! mag isa kasi akong magtatravel sa baguio at vigan, and I'm from Cebu! kaya salamat kasi sobrang detailed ng blog mo. :D

No problem Cherry! Are you gonna go straight by bus from Baguio to Vigan? :)

No, sir. Limited days lang kasi at mas gusto ko i feel yung lugar so baguio muna then babalikan ko nalang ulit and vigan. :)

My Partner and I will be in Baguio this coming April 10-12, 2016 and this Blog made it so much easier for me to plan our vacation. I was even searching for a Map that would easily tell me where to go, and this Blog has it! Whew! I hope that our Vacation will be awesome!

Hi RC, I'm glad you were able to utilize my Baguio tourist attractions map :)

Hi, I love your blog. These is helpful I'm planning to go to Baguio with my family for 3 days. Can you suggest a cheap transient house? a clean & a safe one? Near at Camp John Hay or Sm Bagiou hopefully. Thank you so much

I haven't really tried staying at a transient house before, so I can't recommend any. If you're considering a dorm, I've tried AKAP Dormitel, the cheapest I've stayed in so far while in Baguio, but it's one jeepney ride away from Burnham Park

Can you send me a sample itinerary for one day tour in baguio only.thanks and more powers

Hi Jessa, you can use the Day 1 of the itinerary I posted, just squeeze in Mines View, Botanical Garden, Wright Park and The Mansion in there :)

Hi Christian, can you suggest a 1 day itenerary in Baguio, we were from Manila, approx we will arrive in Baguio by 5 or 6am and we will stay in Azalea Residences. Thank you & God bless!

Hi, sorry for the delayed response. You can probably squeeze in the Day 1 and Day 2 Baguio itinerary I posted above. :)

Hi Sir! ask ko lang kung naexperience mo ng mag early check in sa mga hotels or lodges sa Baguio? How much do they charge sa early check ins?? thanks!!

Hi, hotels in Baguio usually allow early check in if the room is not being used. Better call them a day before if they would allow such. :)

We are heading to Baguio nextweek for our 10th year anniv with the kids and I found this blog with detailed itinerary. Will use this as our guide, thanks for this. Hopefully the weather will be good! We are booked at Hotel Elizabeth:-)

Hi Sweet Haven! Glad you find my Baguio guide to be helpful! Enjoy Baguio!

good day! punta sana kami this weekend. from nueva ecija kami, suspended padin kaya ang bus until now? tsaka alam mo kaya sir ang timing ng van nila? maraming salamat po. btw, great post.. sobrang helpful! keep it up sir :)

Hi Erian, better contact the bus services from Nueva Ecija to Baguio for their schedule. Enjoy Baguio! :)

maulan ba jan kpag october?

With the weather today, it's really kinda hard to predict

Hello. My partner and I are planning to have a 2days and 2nights vacation in Baguio. How much do you think is our budget sa tours and food?

Hi Kathreen, budget for tours, less than a thousand pesos for each if you're gonna do it on your own and just take cabs or die jeepneys. For food, depends really where you're eating. A meal can range from PHP60.00 (carinderia) to about PHP250.00 (famous restaurants) per person.

Baguio din ang fave kong city! :) I fell in love simula nung nkapunta ako dito. Planning to go back this Nov. Season po ba ng strawberry? thanks

Same here, Baguio remains one of my favorite cities in the Philippines! Strawberry season in Baguio starts from November to May. :)

Wow, isn't this blog the best? I mean, you've covered EVERYTHING! I've been to Baguio 3x already but I'm planning to celebrate my birthday weekend there so I'm just looking for new places and itinerary. I almost forgot about Stobosa. Maybe you can also add Cafe in the Sky, "La Presa" and Dinosaur Island as an update for others. Kudos! :) Elaine

Hi Elaine, thank you so much for appreciating this guide. Will try and include those on the next update after I visit them myself. :)

heya mccoy onkyo606 here.you finally had the chance to get back after more than a year. last time i was in baguio was in feb 2016 traffic was hellish that weekend but we still enjoyed our stay. we will miss another visit this december aswe decided to go further north this time. i will try to do a quick visit though balikan lang. i have been frequenting the place the past 5 years but will neverget tired of it. have you tried eating at tono tono yet? i bet you will keep going back too. i just forgot the exact location but that bulaluhan on your way to mines view is also worth a try.

Hello sir Onkyo606! I know how you feel, bad traffic jams but still, we still head over to Baguio! Will keep those restaurants on my list, too many good places to eat out in Baguio. :)

Hi po! Pwede na ba mag-strawberry picking ng October? Planning to visit Baguio next week. Thanks! :)

Hi Catherine, I guess there's already strawberries by October, although strawberry season usually starts on November :)

Greata BLog out here ! Baguio City is one of the best attraction and historical places here in the Philippines

Thanks Jaycee :)

Hi! Punta kami ng boyfriend ko sa Baguio this october 18 and will follow your itinerary dahil 3 days naman kami. :) Pwede bang kung kailan nandun na kami saka lang kami maghanap ng hotel? Saka saan ba magandang magstay na swak lang sa budget and for two? Thank you.

Yes, it is possible to find an accommodation right there and then, but you might not get the lowest available price. I recommend Hotel 45 for budget walk-ins.

Need po nmin tour guide tom couple po..alis po kmi tonight dito manila

Hi Irene, sorry for the late reply. Were you able to find a tour guide in Baguio?

ganda po ng Blog mo :) Very informative :) Thank you for posting.

Thank you Eyna! Enjoy the tourist spots in Baguio!

Meron pa bang AKAP Dormitel? :)

As far as I know, AKAP Dormitel is still open for lodgings. Better contact them first, just to be sure.

Thank you sa mga ideas! God Bless

No problem Bernadette, enjoy your Baguio itinerary :)

nice blog po! so excited to visit baguio!

When are you going? Ber months are the best time to go to Baguio, super cold!

the Cheapest to stay in Baguio is at Bab's Transient house for only 250 per night per person where you can cook your own food and free use of utensils and LPG and rice cooker and for your convenience when touring in baguio just negotiate a jeepney driver for the whole day tour for about 2000 -2500 a day.

God bless.

Hi Anne, you need not worry about security in Baguio, if you somehow get lost, just ask around, lots of friendly people in the city. :)

Ok. Thanks Christian. God Bless. :)

Ay Sir may follow up Q po ako hehe.. Kahit po ba hindi ka mamitas ng strawberry sa strawberry farm may entrance fee prin? Thanks.

No entrance fee at Strawberry Farm if you're not gonna pick :)

Thanks again! God Bless. :)

Wow this will be really helpful for me once I visit Baguio this year! I'll make sure that this coming 2017 will be my "Travel/ Adventure Year" and Baguio is definitely a part of it It's time to save at least P2k/ head hehe since I wanna bring my family as well. Thanks for your effort! Keep up the good work

Wow, Baguio's a good place to start travelling. It's very easy to get around to! :)

Hi Christian, were going to visit baguio. Tatlo sasakyan kami from Nueva ecija. Pare pareho kami Walang alam s baguio. May alam kaba tourist guide n marerefer s amin to follow your two days tour. Bka kc masayang Oras nmin pag wala kmi guide

Hi, I really don't know any tour guide in Baguio. What you can do is load up for an unlimited internet on your phone and use the gps coordinates I posted above so you won't get lost going to Baguio's tourist spots. And, you can also ask people, they're pretty friendly. :)

WOW ANG GALING MO SIR :) Bukod sa AKAP DORMITEL ano pa ang mas cheapest? Im planning to go there kasi on FEB 25-26. Panagbenga grand festival. San kaya pinaka maganda mag stay? yung dadaanan ng float and street dance? thanks sir :)

So far, that's the cheapest Baguio lodging I know of. You may also try Hotel 45, it's a bit more pricey, but they have better rooms and location.

Will follow this itinerary sa bday ko this january 20! Nag leave ako ng jan.20-21, then off ng 22-23. Thanks for this blog! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Four days in Baguio! Enjoy sir! :)

Ohmooo! Thankyou sa Blog na to. Sa totoo lang gusto ko lang magtravel ng hindi nagpapabook. Gusto ko ako lang para hawak ko time ko lalo na pag pagod ako sa kakalakad :) Napakaimpormative nito. See you soon Baguio. After 17years makikita ko ulit ang Baguio :) <3

Hi Sharmayne, glad to hear that you're coming back to Baguio! Hope you have a hassle-free DIY Baguio tour! :)

yung 3k per head keri na ba yun sa 3days & 2 nights?

Hi Regine, if you're staying on a really affordable accommodation, 3,000 pesos for a 3 days, 2 nights tour of Baguio is okay. :)

I Love this site complete info Thanks Christian

Hi Diana, thanks for appreciating! Hope you have a fun time in Baguio! :)

pag may sariling car po ba. lahat po ba ng pupuntahan na tourist spots may parking lot po ba? at kung free o may bayad po? Thanks po

Hi, some tourist spots in Baguio have parking lots for private cars. A few, you just have to park on the street :)

My husband and I with our 7 years old son will go to Baguio this February 4 to 5, what will be the best itenarary for almost one and a half day? If we leave from Manila at Saturday 6am, we will most likely arrive there at Saturday noon. Makakapaggala kami from that time to 6pm. Then Sunday 7am to 4pm. Ano ano magandang unahing puntahan on that so limited amount of time? Thanks a lot!

Hi Lara, the best thing to do is to check the Baguio tourist spots map I posted above for places that are within each other, then you can formulate your customized Baguio one and a half day itinerary

Hi! We'll be at baguio in two weeks from now.. We choose your itinerary and got some ideas.. But my bf hard to find cheap accommodation like what you had.. Any suggestions for accommodation?? specially this season is really too hard to find better but cheap rooms to stay in at baguio.. Any suggestion? Like Bed and breakfast that you know? Most of transient we found got some issues on bathrooms and cr😞 hope you can help us

Hi, I suggest that you check the link I posted above for more Baguio accommodations :)

Hi., balak namin mag walk in if ever maghanap ng accommodation, hindi ba mahirap mag hanap ng cheap na tuluyan dun if ever? 2 adults and 1 toddler(2yrs old)

It would be a bit hard to find accommodations on Baguio for walk ins on weekends, for weekdays, I guess it wouldn't be that hard

Hi, Christian! You're a genius! I loved reading through your blog (note that I am NOT a reader and how hard I try not to read through articles and just skim through them) and learning a lot on how to get to places and just know what to do once you're there. It will be my first time to travel alone on a DIY IT trip and I have spent days, literally daaaayyyyss just trying to figure out how to plan this trip properly and without hassle. I'm very meticulous, especially to the detail regarding the value and quality that I get out of my money now more-so for I'll be shouldering my expenses alone for this trip. NEWBIE here! haha and with your blog, It's like I know the ins and outs of Baguio already. This blog of yours is without a doubt helpful and informative. THANK YOU!! p.s.: It is only in your blog that I got the number of the hotel that I've been trying to reach for days and I just booked a room for 3 nights! YEY!

Hi Eeia! Thank you so much for appreciating my blog! Always glad to help out a fellow traveler, especially when it comes to Baguio. I love this city!

I'm actually preparing for a trip sometime in October. This would really help me a lot.

Hi Cromwell! Happy this Baguio travel blog helps! :)

Hi Sir! Katapos ko lang po basahin ung guide nyo, maraming salamat dito... we'll be in Baguio sa Friday kaya i-bookmark ko itong blog mo. Thanks!

Hi Edgardo! Glad my blog helped! How was your trip? :)

Thanks to this ... I find it really helpful. If we opt for car rental, do you have any recommendation for the most reliable, safe and affordable provider? Great thanks

Hi Cecile, I'm not that familiar with car rentals in Baguio. What you can do is simply flag a taxi and request if they would be okay in renting their cab for the day. Most taxi drivers in Baguio are quite honest, so I don't think you'd have any problem with them. :)

Hi Chienthy, the early check outs are for those wanting a shorter stay in Baguio and won't be finishing the whole itinerary :)

Hi, thanks for blogging this, super helpful siya for me who doesnt know how to set a getaway. Any recommendation sa hotel? I have 1,500 to 2000 per night budget, for 2 person, yung accessible sana sa public transportation. Thank you

Hi John, for cheap Baguio accommodations, I suggest that you search on Agoda, they have lots of affordable places there :) https://www.agoda.com/city/baguio-ph.html?cid=1649989

I am now going to follow your itinerary. You're such a blessing! Thank you!

No problem! Enjoy Baguio!

hi thank you for the information it really helps a lot.. may i copy your sample itinerary?

hello.. this blog is so helpful. :) we are planning for DIY with my husband :) its our first time to go in baguio :) :) thankyou :D

Happy Baguio trip! :)

You can switch the itineraries, of course. The Baguio Cathedral is at the center so, it's up to you where to go next after that. I dedicated the second day to the Laperal area and the first day to visit Tam-awan, which is quite isolated. :)

Such a helpful blog! Thanks a lot for this gonna bookmark this so i can celebrate my birthday in Baguio City.. PS Is the price of the foods in your blog is updated this 2017?

Enjoy your Baguio trip Rommel! Prices for the food are updated up to 2016 :)

So thankful i found this blog =) We're on our way to Baguio right now and im with my partner, well truth to be told im really hesitant to do a DIY travel. But i have no worries at all now =D Im so amazed with the wide range of choices and very detailed itinerary that you have.. KUDOS to you sir!

Wow, a romantic Baguio getaway! Enjoy your trip, sir! Delete

Whats is the best time to arrive in Baguio if its a 3 days 2 nights tour? Any suggestions? Thank you.

To maximize your Baguio trip, I suggest that you take the midnight bus ride from Manila. You'll arrive in Baguio very early the next day. If your accommodation doesn't allow early check in, just leave your bags at the lobby first :)

Hi, fees and fares ganyan pa din hanggang ngayon? thanks :) your blog is so helpful

Hi, yes, more or less the fees are still updated :)

SALAMAT POH SA BLOG NATO.. MAY IT NA KAMI NG PARTNER KO THIS SEPT.15-18 TRIP TO BAGUIO... SALAMAT SIR... VERY WELL PUBLISH OF DETAILS.. HULOG KAH NG LANGIT POHHH .. ANYWAYS, IM FROM THE LAND OF DURIAN...DAVAO CITY

Wow, to Baguio all the way from Davao! Enjoy the City of Pines sir! :)

Your blog is very detailed and informative! I think, everything I should know were all written. I've always wanted to go to Baguio alone. Would it be possible for me to go on holidays? e.g Oct.31-Nov.2 Thanks!

Hi Chii, I think going to Baguio during All Saints Day and All Souls Day would be a good idea since most people usually head over to the cemeteries on those times. And that can only mean one thing, less people in Baguio! :)

Detailed Baguio travel guide with DIY Baguio itinerary with budget including places to see in Baguio.

Baguio, the summer capital of the Philippines, has a timeless appeal. This bustling city on the foot of the Cordillera is geographically part of Benguet province, but now operates separately since its conversion to a chartered city. Baguio is largely known as a Tourist Town , attracting hordes of tourists due to its cool weather, pine trees,  artsy-man-made attractions, museums, street arts, and neighboring flower farms and misty mountains. Baguio is also a popular University Town due to the presence of major universities and community colleges in the city. Even Koreans flock to Baguio  to study because of its good reputation as the education capital of Northern Philippines, and cool climate. Koreans even participate in the annual Panagbenga Festival, the largest flower festival in the Philippines.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT BAGUIO

Baguio is a year-round destination. But if you want to visit during the coldest months, try December to January. Baguio historical tour: reserve here, baguio cultural tour with easter weaving: book here, baguio instagram walking tour: reserve here, northern blossoms flower farm tour: book here.

Here’s a sample Baguio Itinerary for 2 days. I included the entrance fees on the expenses. I will write a more detailed Baguio Itinerary blog soon.

BAGUIO DRONE

Be careful when flying your drone in Baguio as it is strictly prohibited in some areas, permission might be required from CEPMO. Avoid flying near Loakan Airport, PMA and other military areas, the central business district (avoid residentials buildings), avoid flying in Camp John Hay, the Mansion, and Wright Park.

BAGUIO SAFETY

Baguio is generally tourist friendly and safe even for solo travelers. I have traveled here lone many times in the past, and I’ve always felt safe even when riding taxis alone. Taxi drivers will really give you the exact change, they’re honest, unlike many taxi drivers in Manila.  But as in any other areas, be vigilant in dark places and crowded streets. There are cases of pickpocketing and robberies in Baguio already.

Baguio is a smoke-free city and is pretty strict in prohibiting smoking and vaping in all public places, including parks and other outdoor areas. Smoking is only allowed in establishments with permits to operate smoking area.

WHERE TO STAY IN BAGUIO

Baguio is oozing with accomodations for all types of budget, so you won’t really run out of places to stay, even during the Panagbenga Festival season. I recommend staying near Burnham Park or Session Road as it is near many establishments.

However, most of the newer hotels in Baguio are located outside the downtown area. And they’re usually your best option for mid-range hotels. Anyway, you can easily reach downtown Baguio via taxi or Grab. Expect to pay roughly ₱65 ($1.15) for a taxi to the city center.

Here are some of the top-rated hotels in Baguio.

  • Sotogrande Hotel Baguio
  • Location: Baguio City Proper
  • CHECK RATES HERE OR RESERVE HERE

Stayed in Sotogrande Hotel last time. This is a new hotel. Room has enough space to move around. Their breakfast buffet is pretty generous. They have an in-house restaurant, and I like their crispy pata, pizza and pasta. For dessert, try their sansrival cake.

  • The Forest Lodge at Camp John Hay
  • Location: Camp John Hay

Stayed here before and I really like the cozy lobby of this hotel as well as the restaurant. Rooms are spacious too. Food at the restaurant is just okay.

  • G1 Lodge Design Hotel
  • Paladin Hotel
  • Location: Baguio City Proper (near Burnham Park)
  • The Orchard Hotel Baguio

 HOW TO GET TO BAGUIO

VICTORY LINER BUS TO BAGUIO

1.From Manila, take a bus bound for Baguio. Victory Liner has buses to Baguio from Cubao and Pasay. Alternatively, you may also take Genesis Bus or Joy Bus to Baguio. Regular Aircon Express bus fare from Baguio to Cubao is roughly ₱626 ($11.14), while from Pasay to Baguio bus fare is around ₱640 ($11.39). See Victory Liner Bus fare below.

MANILA TO BAGUIO BUS (PITX & Cubao): BOOK HERE

Manila to baguio bus (pasay, cubao, pitx): reserve here.

VICTORY LINER BUS FARE  (Cubao to Baguio)

*If you are traveling on a Friday night or over the weekend via Victory Liner, make sure you buy your ticket in advance as the line can get pretty long.  It took us 2.5 hours as chance passenger to ride the bus to Baguio. Otherwise, go to the other bus companies like Genesis and Joy Bus, they also have terminals in Cubao and Pasay.

If you are traveling in group, you may want to consider renting a van to Baguio from Manila, Tagaytay, La Union, Baguio, and more.

PRIVATE VAN TRANSFER (MANILA TO BAGUIO): BOOK HERE

Getting around baguio, baguio by tour package.

If you want a hassle-free tour of Baguio, there are several  DOT-accredited tour operators in Baguio. It is best to book a tour with them. If your time is limited,  you can also book a day tour from Manila to Baguio. SEE THE TOURS ABOVE THIS BLOG UNDER BAGUIO TRIP ESSENTIALS.

BAGUIO BY TAXI

Touring by taxi in Baguio is also a good option,  that’s because taxi drivers in Baguio are generally honest, they would use the meter and give you the exact exchange.  The current flag down rate is roughly ₱40 ($0.72) for the first 500 meters, with ₱2 ($0.040) per 100 meter increments thereafter.  Baguio taxi tour rate depends on how many hours you plan to tour Baguio.  Usual rate per day now for hiring a taxi in Baguio for 1 day is ₱3,500 ($62.94) to ₱4,000 ($71.93)  that’s good for 3-4 people and tour is from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

BAGUIO BY JEEPNEY

It is possible to get around in Baguio by jeepney. The starting rate for the classic jeepney is ₱13 ($0.23).  This is good if you want to do a DIY Baguio Travel, but make sure you know the Baguio jeepney routes (which is quite confusing) to avoid getting lost.  There’s also the airconditioned jeep now in Baguio but I haven’t tries riding it yet.

You can also hire a jeepney in Baguio to see some of the new Baguio tourist spots, as well as the classic destinations if you are a large group, say group of 10 or more. There’s a jeepney terminal just outside Victory Liner, you may ask the drivers for per day rate.

BAGUIO CITY TRAVEL GUIDE with Budget Itinerary

BAGUIO CITY TRAVEL GUIDE with Budget Itinerary

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double-check with the concerned establishments for the latest updates.

There were shooting stars.

I was a High School sophomore when I set foot in Baguio for the very first time. The details of the event are fuzzy now, but it was a Boy Scout-related trip. I was just a few steps to becoming an Eagle Scout then, which was something my friends and I had been working hard to achieve. To ensure I would be joining the trip, I had to work a little bit harder. My classmates didn’t know it then — they thought every penny I had for that trip was given — but I had to earn it by selling fishballs.

After over 10 hours of bus ride from Batangas, we finally reached Baguio at around midnight. In the middle of unloading our bags, my friends and I sat and rested on the base of flagpole. As we were having a conversation about the cold, shooting stars streaked across the night sky.

That was my earliest memory of Baguio City. Even now that the city has undergone a lot of changes and more cool, rustic towns have become accessible, I still find myself in a bus bound for Baguio again and again. It’s hard to forget something that left such a magical first impression. I mean, there were shooting stars.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

UNDERSTANDING BAGUIO

Baguio was built as a hill station in 1900, at the start of the American Colonial Period. That’s why the names of many of the key landmarks sound western or American. Burnham Park was named after Architect Daniel Burnham, who planned the city; Wright Park after Governor-General Luke Edward Wright; Camp John Hay after John Milton Hay, who was President Roosevelt’s Secretary of State; and Bell House after General J. Franklin Bell. The Mansion, one of the city’s most recognizable buildings, was constructed to serve as the official residence of the Governor General.

baguio map with tourist spots pdf

Today, Baguio is the biggest city and the economic center of the Cordillera region. Despite being a resort city, it is highly urbanized, home to almost 350,000 residents, many of which are from surrounding towns and provinces who moved to the city for work or studies. It is this cooler attitude that makes Baguio a magnet for tourists trying to escape the searing heat of the lowlands, especially in the summer.

Long before Sagada and Kalinga entered the collective consciousness of tourists, Baguio City was the go-to destination in the Cordillera region. It is known by a number of nicknames including City of Pines and Summer Capital of the Philippines , bestowed upon it because it is perched in the middle of tropical pine forests around 1500 meters above sea level, ensuring cool, pleasant temperatures year-round.

Here are more things you need to know about Baguio City.

  • Language: The four most spoken Philippine languages in Baguio are Ibaloi, Kankana-ey, Ilocano, and Tagalog. But English is widely understood and spoken too.
  • Currency: Philippine peso (PHP, ₱). PHP100 is around USD 1.90, EUR 1.69, SGD 2.57 (as of April 2019).
  • Modes of payment: Credit cards are accepted by many establishments but CASH is still king (and queen) in Baguio.

WHERE TO STAY IN BAGUIO

Baguio looks easy and simple on the map, but it is a lot more complicated in reality. But picture it this way: At the very center of the city is Burnham Park. Many of the key places of interest are located somewhere around it. Most key roads is somehow directly connected to it. Even jeepney terminals are easily accessible from the park.

Hence, if it’s your first time and you want to see the key attractions in the city, pick a place that is located near Burnham Park. It doesn’t have to be directly across the park. Even hotels that are just a short walk away will do. This area will be most convenient for you.

But if you’re after some peace of mind and you’re not here to go sightseeing, choose a hotel that is located away from Burnham Park and a little bit isolated from all the busyness. Baguio, after all, is still a bona fide urban hub, with lots of buildings and vehicles and people.

HOW TO GET TO BAGUIO FROM MANILA

Several bus companies ply the Manila-Baguio route. You can catch a bus at the following terminals:

  • Genesis Transport: Cubao
  • Dagupan Bus Lines: Cubao
  • PARTAS: Cubao and Pasay
  • Joy Bus (Genesis): Pasay and Avenida
  • Victory Liner: Cubao and Pasay

Baguio is only 4-6 hours away from Manila, depending on which part of Manila you’re coming from, which route the bus takes, and whether or not it makes a stop along the way. Regular buses usually take Dau Exit (NLEX) or Concepcion Exit (SCTEX) and make at least one stop.

baguio map with tourist spots pdf

But higher end buses like Joy Bus and Victory Liner’s first-class service use NLEX, SCTEX, and TPLEX non-stop, cutting down the travel time to 4-5 hours. First class buses also have wider legrooms and free snacks.

When I go to Baguio, I usually book with Victory Liner. No particular reason, really. It’s just out of habit. Haha. So I’m most familiar with their fares.

CUBAO TO BAGUIO – VICTORY LINER Regular aircon: P485 First class: P800

CUBAO TO BAGUIO – JOYBUS Deluxe: P720 Premier: P740

PASAY TO BAGUIO – JOYBUS Deluxe: P730 Premier: P760

PASAY TO BAGUIO – VICTORY LINER Regular aircon: P496 First class: P800

For the schedule, check this website: VICTORY LINER & JOY BUS SCHEDULE .

From the new Victory Liner terminal, you can take a cab to your hotel. If your hotel is near Burnham Park, the fare should be around P70.

HOW TO GET AROUND BAGUIO

One thing that you as a tourist needs to know about Baguio is that attractions are scattered around the city in clusters. The problem is that these clusters are far from each other. Hence, it’s best to explore by cluster. There are two main modes of transportation:

  • Jeepney. The cheaper way to get around. If your hotel is near Burnham, you can easily find a jeepney. There are terminals just outside the park. Minimum fare is P8.50.
  • Taxi. The more convenient way. If you’re a group, it’s affordable too. Cabs in Baguio are much cheaper than in Manila, and taxi drivers are known to be honest and give exact change (unlike in Manila). Of course, there are also bad drivers, but they are more the exception than the rule. Flagdown rate is P35.

GrabTaxi works in Baguio, but the number of available cabs is very limited, so expect to wait a long time to book.

You can also travel on foot. Within the city proper, I usually just walk. But I have to warn you that it can be exhausting. Visitors usually forget that Baguio’s terrain is largely uneven, something that isn’t obvious if you rely on flat maps. But once you’re there, you’ll realize that walking around Baguio involves uphill climbs. If you’re not familiar with some short cuts, you’ll also find yourself walking long distances.

THINGS TO DO IN BAGUIO & LA TRINIDAD

Camp john hay.

baguio map with tourist spots pdf

This is my favorite place in the city. When I was young and I conjured up images of Baguio in my head, they looked like Camp John Hay and its thick blanket of pine trees. It was established on October 25, 1903 as an R&R (rest and recreation) station exclusively for the US Armed Forces in the Philippines. At the height of World War II, it was bombed by the Japanese but fell back in the hands of the Americans in 1945. Almost 50 years later, it was turned over to the Philippine government, which transformed the site into a tourist site.

There’s a lot to enjoy here including the following:

  • Treetop Adventures, where you can enjoy thrilling rides like the Superman Ride (zipline), Canopy Ride, and Tree Drop (harnessed free fall).
  • Bell House, formerly the official vacation residence of the Commanding General of the Philippines. It now houses a museum featuring American colonial architecture.
  • Butterfly Garden, good to see if you’ve never been to any butterfly garden before or if you’re with kids. Otherwise, skippable.
  • Cemetery of Negativism, a symbolic site for the burying of negativities — thoughts, emotions, attitude.
  • Yellow Trail, aka Forest Bathing Trail, a 1.5km easy hiking path that will lead you through and around the pine forest. The trek takes around 2 hours. You can do it in 2 ways. The usual route is generally uphill, starting at Le Monet Hotel and ending at Scout Hill. If you don’t think you have the stamina, you can do it the other way around instead. (That’s what we did, LOL!) We thoroughly enjoyed it!

For more information about the places to visit here, read: THINGS TO DO AT CAMP JOHN HAY .

La Trinidad Strawberry Farm

Baguio is almost synonymous with strawberries, but the most visited strawberry farm is actually in La Trinidad, 30 minutes away. Here, you’ll find plots of strawberries alongside vegetables and flowers. You can buy strawberries here for P250-P300 per kilo. If you want to pick the berries yourselves, prepare to shell out additional P200.

baguio map with tourist spots pdf

Lying along the farm is a pasalubong center made up of several souvenir stores. If you get hungry, try the strawberry ice cream (which is really good) and strawberry taho!

Colors of Stobosa (Mural Houses)

baguio map with tourist spots pdf

Not too far away from the strawberry field are the colorful houses of Stobosa. This community project is one of the newest attractions in La Trinidad. More formally referred to as Stobosa Hillside Homes Artwork, it is basically a cluster of hillside houses painted in various colors by the designers of Tam-awan Village. “Stobosa” stands for Stonehill, Botiwtiw, and Sadjap, the three sitios that make up the giant artwork.

Bell Church

baguio map with tourist spots pdf

Just within walking distance of Stobosa Artwork is Bell Church, one of the most popular tourist sites in the Baguio-La Trinidad area. The Bell Church is a Chinese temple run and managed by a Filipino-Chinese religious organization, established by immigrants from Canton (Guangzhou) in 1960.

BenCab Museum

baguio map with tourist spots pdf

BenCab Museum is actually located in the town of Tuba, but it’s just a short drive from the Baguio city center. The museum houses the works of Benedicto Reyes Cabrera, a National Artist for Visual Arts, and other Filipino contemporary art masters. Set amid relaxing greenery, the BenCan Museum is not just a place to appreciate art but also reflect.

Hours open: Tuesdays-Sundays 9am-6pm Last entry: 5:30pm Closed: Mondays, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Entrance Fee: P120

How to get there: From the public market, ride a jeepney bound for Asin. Fare is less than P20.

Tam-awan Village

Nicknamed “Garden in the Sky,” Tam-awan Village is a reconstruction of a traditional Cordilleran village set in a forest. Established by the Chanum Foundation in 1988, it aims to showcase the craftsmanship and aesthetics of the Cordillera and bring the region’s culture closer to more people while also promoting local artists. Currently, the village has Ifugao and Kalinga model houses, built using only traditional materials.

Entrance fee: P60

Burnham Park

baguio map with tourist spots pdf

Most probably, Burnham Park is Baguio’s most well-known attraction. When you see it on the map, it doesn’t look much, but in reality, it is huge. Within its expanse are several smaller places of interest. The Melvin Jones Grandstand is the most visible, but if you walk around, you’ll also see the Children’s Playground and the Orchidarium, among others.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When is the best time to visit baguio.

November to April , if you’re sightseeing.

Baguio enjoys cool temperature year-round, but of course, some months are better than others. November to April is the driest period, which is great if you’re planning on spending most of your time exploring. This means there is very little chance of heavy rain to put a damp on your itinerary.

baguio map with tourist spots pdf

December to February is the coldest period and it will steadily rise until May, but it’s still pretty chilly especially at night.

If you love festivals, visit in February when the Panagbenga (Baguio Flower Festival) is in full swing and see the grand parade of flowers. But expect thick crowds everywhere.

June to September is the wettest period, not ideal for touring. But if you’re visiting Baguio to reflect, be alone, or try to finish writing something (true story, lol), then you might find the damp, foggy mornings to be inspiring.

What is the tipping custom in Baguio?

Just like in other places in the Philippines, tipping is not mandatory in Baguio. Tip only if you really enjoyed the service to show your appreciation.

Taxi drivers in Baguio are also known for giving exact change, which doesn’t usually happen in Manila. But if you want to tip, you can just round up the meter. For example, if the cost of the ride is P62 and you pay P70, you can tell the driver to keep the change.

What type of power plug / socket is used in Baguio?

Electricity Info: 220V, 60Hz. Plug and socket Type A.

It’s worth noting that purchases made here support the charitable work of the nuns, particularly for educational funds for students enrolled at the Saint Louis University in Baguio.

Pro Tip : Head to Good Shepherd Convent early in the morning to avoid long lines. In normal hours, you need to get in line for around 30 minutes.

If your visit coincides with February, you’re in for a visual treat. The Panagbenga Flower Festival is Baguio’s annual flower extravaganza, featuring elaborate floats adorned with vibrant blooms, street dancing, and other cultural performances. The Panagbenga Festival , which means “ season of blooming ” in the Kankanaey language, originated as a symbol of the city’s resilience and commitment to rebuilding after a devastating earthquake in 1990. The month-long celebration is a testament to the city’s nickname as the “ Flower Festival Capital of the Philippines .”

The Penagbenga Festival is one of the most popular festivals in the Philippines. It’s a must-see tradition for both locals and foreign tourists alike.

Baguio City is the capital of Benguet Province. From Manila, it will take at least 4 hours (up to 6 hours) to get there depending on your route.

Riding a scooter - one of the best budget travel hacks

Growing up in Baguio City, nestled among the picturesque mountains of the Philippines, provided me with a unique sense of home that I’ve carried with me throughout my life. The crisp mountain air, the scent of pine trees, and the vibrant culture of the city shaped my identity in profound ways. From exploring the bustling streets of Session Road to seeking solace in the serene beauty of Burnham Park, Baguio City was not just a place where I lived; it was a part of who I am. The memories of attending the Panagbenga Festival with family and friends, or enjoying steaming cups of strawberry taho on chilly mornings, are etched into my heart. The sense of community in Baguio City, where neighbors felt like extended family and strangers greeted each other with warm smiles, fostered a deep connection to my surroundings. Although life may have taken me far from the city’s embrace, the spirit of Baguio continues to reside within me, a constant reminder of the place I will always call home.

We miss you friend hahaha 😀

I’m attaching here the ingredients and recipe of the chee cheong fun at taman esplanad that ive been eating every twice a week.

Ingredients:

For Chee Cheong Fun:

250g rice flour 2 tablespoons tapioca flour 2 1/2 cups water 1/2 teaspoon salt Vegetable oil for greasing

For Sweet Sauce:

3 tablespoons soy sauce 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce 2 tablespoons oyster sauce 2 tablespoons sesame oil 1 tablespoon sugar 1 cup water 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)

For Fish Curry:

500g fish fillets (such as snapper or mackerel), cut into chunks 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 1 onion, finely chopped 3 cloves garlic, minced 1 tablespoon ginger, minced 2 tablespoons curry powder 1 can (400ml) coconut milk 1 cup water Salt and pepper to taste Chopped cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

Prepare the Chee Cheong Fun batter: In a mixing bowl, combine rice flour, tapioca flour, water, and salt. Whisk until smooth. Let the batter rest for 30 minutes.

Grease a large, shallow heatproof dish or a plate with vegetable oil. Pour a thin layer of the batter onto the greased dish. Steam over high heat for 5-7 minutes until set. Repeat with the remaining batter.

Once cooked, carefully roll up each piece of Chee Cheong Fun and slice into bite-sized pieces. Set aside.

Prepare the sweet sauce: In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.

Stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

For the fish curry: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or pan over medium heat. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, and minced ginger. Sauté until fragrant and onions are translucent.

Stir in curry powder and cook for another minute until aromatic.

Add fish chunks to the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly browned.

Pour in coconut milk and water. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a simmer and cook for 8-10 minutes until the fish is cooked through and the curry has thickened slightly.

To serve, arrange the sliced Chee Cheong Fun on a plate. Drizzle with sweet sauce and ladle fish curry over the top. Garnish with chopped cilantro if desired. Serve hot and enjoy your homemade Chee Cheong Fun with sweet sauce and fish curry!

Miss ko na chee cheong fun. 🙁 Lang malapit na malaysian restaurant dito sa’min tsaka wala sila mga ganyang street food haha. Pati yung teh tarik iba lasa.

Facade of The Mansion in Baguio City

The Mansion is an iconic Baguio Landmark that you wouldn’t want to skip. It was built in 1908 to serve as the official summer residence of the U.S. Governors-General during the American occupation. Today, The Mansion is the President of the Philippines’ official summer palace.

The Mansion’s main building is inspired by the Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. It makes an elegant background for a photo opportunity. You can snap pictures in front of the ornate iron gate or by the beautifully manicured lawn. It’s no wonder the palace is one of the most photographed landmarks in Baguio.

Although the main gate is open to the public, visitors are only allowed in The Mansion House Museum, where travelers can view presidential memorabilia. The Mansion is an excellent stopover on your Baguio sightseeing tour , whether you’re fond of architectural attractions, a history buff, or simply want a photo of the elegant landmark.

Colorful houses in StoBoSa La Trinidad

Since you’ll be in Baguio, checking out the neighboring attractions is an excellent way to make the most of your Benguet escapade.  Go on a side trip to La Trinidad for a StoBoSa Tour.

StoBoSa stands for Stonehill, Botiw-tiw, and Sadjap−the colorful hillside communities of La Trinidad.

Inspired by the Favelas of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, the local government collaborated with local artists to transform the shanty-covered hills into a life-sized art piece called the StoBoSa Hillside Homes Artwork.

Also known as the Colors of StoBoSa, it comprises 200 houses over 18,000 square meters. The colorful murals on the houses are conceptualized by Tam-Awan Village artists and executed by the locals. Bridge inside the Botanical Garden of Baguio City

If you want to unwind during your Baguio tour, stop by the Baguio Botanical Garden.  The Botanical Garden is home to several towering pine trees and various other plants. The garden serves two purposes; as a hideaway from the crowds of Baguio and as a nursery for propagating flora that will eventually be replanted in the parks and gardens of Baguio.

With such lush vegetation, the Baguio Botanical Garden is truly a great place to relax. There are pocket gardens and pavilions dedicated to Baguio’s sister cities in South Korea, Japan, China, Canada, Thailand, and the USA. You will also find a giant bronze sculpture by Ben Hur Villanueva, a renowned Filipino sculptor, and statues depicting different Cordillera tribes.

The Baguio Botanical Garden is an excellent spot to chill. You can walk around and admire the garden, sit by the benches, or simply have a snack under the cottages.

Freshly picked strawberries from La Trinidad

Make the most of your trip to Baguio tour by doing a strawberry farm tour in nearby La Trinidad. La Trinidad is the capital of Benguet, and it is about 30 minutes from the Baguio town proper.

The weather in the Benguet is ideal for growing vegetables and fruits, but nothing is more popular and delicious than the plump strawberries of La Trinidad. Strawberries are best eaten right after they’re harvested. Thankfully, you can pick the berries here yourself. The activity is open from November to May every year, but the rates may vary.

Picking strawberries is arguably such a unique experience that it deserves a top spot on your Baguio itinerary. If you don’t want to go pick yourself, you can also choose to buy freshly picked strawberries. Aside from strawberries, you can also purchase fresh flowers and vegetables.
