Nicki Minaj performing at Madison Square Garden, wearing a sequin body suit.

There’s no place like home.

Nicki Minaj gave her native New York crowd a night to remember for her Madison Square Garden stop of the Pink Friday 2 tour .

The evening was electric before she even touched the stage, as DJ Boof played a slew of the Queens rapper’s hits, Pop Smoke’s “Dior,” Rihanna’s “Take A Bow,” and A$AP Ferg’s “Plain Jane.” He even catered to the diversity of the sold-out audience and played records like Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me” and Justin Bieber’s “Baby.” Neither race, religion nor creed mattered to the sea of people wearing pink as they turnt up to every single song Boof played.

The energy hit another level when Onika finally hit the stage. Of course, she performed songs like “Press Play,” “FTCU,” and “Needle” from her latest album Pink Friday 2 , but it was the early tracks in her catalog that really set the people off. There wasn’t a single dry eye in the arena when Minaj belted “Save Me.” You could not find a single silent person when she claimed her destiny on “Moment 4 Life.”

Nicki Minaj Apologizes for Postponed Show After Video Appears to Show Arrest

In a video posted live by Minaj to Instagram, the rapper appeared to step into a law enforcement vehicle after being accused of “carrying drugs.”

The rapper Nicki Minaj apologized to fans in Manchester, England, for postponing a show scheduled in the city for Saturday night after footage posted to one of her social media accounts appeared to show her being arrested by Dutch authorities for drug possession.

The live Instagram video , captured by CNN and shared more broadly, is no longer available on Minaj’s account. It appears to show Minaj, who had performed Thursday in Amsterdam, being directed toward a van by law enforcement officers.

“You’re under arrest,” one of the officers says in the video, informing Minaj that she will be taken to the police station. When Minaj asks why, he responds, “because you’re carrying drugs.”

The video then shows Minaj denying the accusation and repeatedly requesting a lawyer before eventually stepping into the van. Another video posted to her Instagram account appears to show a man telling Minaj that her luggage will need to be searched.

Neither the Dutch Police nor the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, a branch of the Dutch military, would respond to questions about potential charges against Minaj when reached by phone late on Sunday evening.

Minaj has since been released and is continuing the Pink Friday 2 World Tour, according to posts and videos shared by the tour account .

On Saturday, the Co-op Live arena in Manchester said in a statement that Minaj’s show scheduled for that evening had been postponed. “Despite Nicki’s best efforts to explore every possible avenue to make tonight’s show happen, the events of today have made it impossible,” the venue said. “We are deeply disappointed by the inconvenience this has caused.”

Minaj also apologized to fans in statement , saying that she had sat in a jail cell for five to six hours.

“Please please please accept my deepest & most sincere apologies. They sure did know exactly how to hurt me today but this too, shall pass,” Minaj said, noting that she would make up the date for the performance in either June or July.

On Sunday, another video posted to X showed Minaj meeting with screaming fans outside her hotel in Manchester. The footage shows two men repeatedly trying to hush the crowd, warning that if they did not calm down then she would go inside.

“I can honestly tell you that I love you,” she said.

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Nicki Minaj’s concert in Manchester scheduled for Saturday night was postponed after police in the Netherlands discovered marijuana in her bags as she was preparing to leave the country.

Promoter Live Nation said the performance will be rescheduled and tickets will be honored.

“Despite Nicki’s best efforts to explore every possible avenue to make tonight’s show happen, the events of today have made it impossible,” the promoter said in a statement. “We are deeply disappointed by the inconvenience this has caused.”

Minaj tweeted earlier Saturday that she was stopped at the Amsterdam airport as she was about to board a plane for the concert in Manchester. Police told her they found marijuana in her bags, and it would have to be weighed, she tweeted. Cannabis is illegal in the Netherlands, but it is tolerated for recreational use.

Robert Van Kapel, a spokesperson for the Netherlands military police, said a 41-year-old American woman had been arrested for exporting “soft drugs.” He did not identify the woman or elaborate on the type of drugs in question. Police later tweeted that they fined the woman and released her.

Minaj, who is 41 years old, tweeted that she believes police just wanted to make her late for her concert in Manchester.

“Told you, it’s to try to make me late so that they can write negative stories. Jealousy is a disease. You know the rest,” Minaj tweeted.

Her representatives didn’t immediately respond to messages Saturday.

The Trinidadian-born rapper is best known for her hits “Super Freaky Girl,” “Anaconda” and “Starships.” She has been nominated for 12 Grammy awards over the course of her career. The Manchester concert is part of her “Pink Friday 2” tour, which includes stops in Paris, Poland, Germany, Romania and Switzerland.

Associated Press journalists Michael Corder in The Hague, Netherlands, and Sian Watson in Cannes, France, contributed to this report.

Nicki Minaj’s Amsterdam concert canceled after her reported arrest: Her tour drama explained

Nicki Minaj canceled an Amsterdam tour date days after being arrested there for marijuana possession. The “Super Bass” singer said she felt “subhuman” during her encounter with Dutch police.

🚨What just happened?

Less than one week after the performer’s May 25 detainment at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport — for which she was fined and released — she called off a second tour stop there, at the Ziggo Dome, scheduled for June 2.

“Due to the events of last week, the Nicki Minaj show … will no longer be taking place,” concert promoter Mojo announced on its website . “Tickets will be refunded at the point of sale.”

This is Minaj’s second show that was affected by the detainment, which the Trinidadian-born rapper streamed on social media. She had been flying from Amsterdam to Manchester, England, for a show scheduled for the night of her arrest, which had to be postponed. It’s rescheduled for June 3.

Minaj said on Stationhead this week that she felt “subhuman” during her interaction with police, who claimed to find marijuana in her luggage. She felt there was racial discrimination behind the stop, saying it felt worse “knowing that something is being done to you on purpose simply because you are a confident other race. The treatment was just disgusting and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.”

While Minaj canceled the Amsterdam show, she announced this week she’s adding 22 more U.S. dates to her Pink Friday 2 World Tour .

↩️ How we got here

Minaj kicked off the European leg of her tour in Amsterdam on May 23. At the airport en route to the next stop two days later, authorities claimed to have found “soft drugs” in her luggage.

Minaj, recording the interaction, was told by officers she was under arrest for carrying drugs. She was heard demanding an attorney. She said on social media her bags were taken without consent and claimed the “pre-rolls” of “weed” belonged to a member of her security.

Minaj was placed in a police vehicle holding cell before being taken to a local precinct. The BBC reported that she was ultimately fined 350 euros ($380) and sent on her way. (Police posted a statement about the detainment, not naming Minaj .) Minaj said the detainment lasted five to six hours, resulting in her missing her next show. When she made it to Manchester that night, she invited fans via social media to meet her outside her hotel so she could apologize.

Minaj alleged that there was a conspiracy to sabotage her tour , writing on social media that unnamed “[people] are mad that it’s this successful” and “got caught stealing money from my travel/jets. Got fired.”

Minaj’s tour runs through October, as of now. It’s her largest tour to date supporting her album Pink Friday 2 , which was released in December. It debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart, making her the female rapper with the most No. 1 albums, and has been well-received by critics .

Nicki Minaj released after arrest in the Netherlands on suspicion of exporting soft drugs

Nicki Minaj was released from custody Saturday hours after she was arrested by police in the Netherlands on suspicion of exporting soft drugs, authorities said.

The rapper was fined and allowed to “continue her journey,” police said in a translated post on X just before 4 p.m. ET.

Minaj, 41, was traveling to Manchester, England, from Amsterdam for a concert on her “Pink Friday 2 World Tour” when she was arrested. Minaj, whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, was scheduled to perform at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester on Saturday night but it was postponed, Live Nation UK said in an update.

Nicki Minaj.

“Despite Nicki’s best efforts to explore every possible avenue to make tonight’s show happen, the events of today have made it impossible,” the company said. “We are deeply disappointed by the inconvenience this has caused.”

Tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled concert, the company said.

Police have not identified the name of the person arrested, but when asked if it was Minaj, a spokesperson said officers had “arrested a 41-year-old American woman at Schiphol Airport because of possession of soft drugs.”

In a social media post early Sunday local time , Minaj said she arrived at her hotel in Manchester a little more than an hour ago. “After sitting in a jail cell for 5-6 hours, my plane still didn’t take off for another 20 mins once I boarded” the 50-minute flight from Amsterdam, she wrote.

“Please please please accept my deepest & most sincere apologies,” Minaj wrote. “They sure did know exactly how to hurt me today but this too, shall pass.”

The rapper said she hopes to be able to share the rescheduled date for Saturday’s show on Sunday, and that she and her team are considering one option in June and another in July.

She confirmed she’d still be performing the second show in Manchester on Thursday, and that she will still go on in Birmingham on Sunday.

“I’ll find a way to not only make up the date with the performance but I’m going to create an added bonus for everyone that had a tkt for this show. Promise,” Minaj said.

Earlier on Saturday, Minaj had shared numerous posts on social media detailing the incident.

In one video she shared on X, the rapper is seen being told that her luggage needs to be searched.

“I’m so sorry to say that,” a man at the airport tells her.

“But isn’t that what you planned on doing from the get-go? Why didn’t you guys search it before it went on the plane,” she responds.

The man says they did a “random quick check” but need to open the luggage.

In subsequent posts, Minaj said she believed people were trying to “stop this tour” and were lying to her.

“They took my luggage & when I asked where it is they said it’s on the plane. It couldn’t have been, I just pulled up,” she said. “I never gave them my bags. They’re refusing to let me see my own bags.”

In another post, she wrote: “They’re being paid big money to try to sabotage my tour b/c soooooo many ppl are mad that it’s this successful & they can’t eat off me. They got caught stealing money from my travel/jets. Got fired. Got mad. Etc.”

“This is how they plant things in your luggage,” another read.

Minaj said in the Sunday social media post she has video evidence of the encounter and she’ll “have the lawyers & GOD take it from here tho.”

During an Instagram Live, Minaj filmed police as they told her to get inside a van so she could be taken to the police station. In a post on X, the rapper said she was being told she had to “go 5 mins away to make a statement about my security to the police precinct.”

Nicki Minaj was seemingly arrested in Amsterdam on Saturday (May 25) while on her way to perform a concert in the United Kingdom.

The “Super Bass” rapper captured the incident in an Instagram Live video that was later reposted by her fans on social media. In the clip, an Amsterdam official is heard saying he wants to take Minaj into custody for “carrying drugs,” despite her claim that she was not holding any contraband.

“Oh, so I’m under arrest?” she asks as an official responds, “Yes.” He didn’t offer any further explanation.

The clip ends with Minaj voluntarily getting into the police van.

It was not clear at press time if Minaj had been booked at a police station. A spokesperson for Royal Netherlands Marechaussee military police told TMZ that an American woman had been arrested for possessing “soft drugs,” but declined to identify the individual by name or the specific type of alleged drugs.

Promoter Live Nation said Minaj’s Manchester performance will be rescheduled and original tickets will be honored, according to a statement given to The Associated Press , who also reported that the police had found marijuana in her bags.

“Despite Nicki’s best efforts to explore every possible avenue to make tonight’s show happen, the events of today have made it impossible,” said Live Nation. “We are deeply disappointed by the inconvenience this has caused.”

After “sitting in a jail cell for 5-6 hours” before arriving in Manchester, Minaj gave an update in a post on X (formerly Twitter) Saturday night: “we will have another date for tonight’s show shortly & I’ll probably be able to share it tmrw. One July option & one June option is currently being discussed. I’ll find a way to not only make up the date with the performance but I’m going to create an added bonus for everyone that had a tkt for this show. Promise.”

Billboard has reached out to Minaj’s representatives for further comment.

The “Super Freaky Girl” rapper shared another video on Saturday that appears to be an airport official telling her that authorities need to search her bags.

“Now they said they found weed & that another group of ppl have to come here to weigh the pre-rolls,” Minaj wrote on X (formerly Twitter), later noting that her plane was being delayed a couple hours.

“Keep in mind they took my bags without consent,” she added, pointing out that marijuana is legal in Amsterdam. “My security has already advised them those pre-rolls belong to him. Oh yea & the pilot wants me to take my ig post down.”

On Instagram, the rapper suggested that her Pink Friday 2 tour was being “sabotaged.” “They’ve been trying to stop me from coming to every show,” she wrote . “They took my bags before I could see them. Put it on the plane. Now saying they’re waiting on customs. This is what it looks like when ppl are paid big money to try to sabotage a tour after all else failed. Everything they’ve done is illegal.”

The incident prompted the Barbz to share their displeasure on social media, resulting in the hashtag “#FREENICKI” trending on X.

Nicki Minaj reportedly arrested for drug possession in the Netherlands

The 41-year-old singer documented the incident on social media.

nicki minaj tour news

Rapper and pop star Nicki Minaj was reportedly arrested in the Netherlands on Saturday after police said they found drugs in her luggage when she tried to board a plane for a concert in England, which was subsequently postponed.

Minaj apologized for her concert’s postponement in a speech before fans and concertgoers early Sunday morning.

“I love you and I’m so sorry this happened tonight,” she told her fans, according to a recorded video posted on X.

“Please please please accept my deepest & most sincere apologies,” she added in a written post on X . “They sure did know exactly how to hurt me today but this too, shall pass.”

Minaj said that she planned to make up the concert date in the future and provide “an added bonus” to any fans who had a ticket to the show. She also said she still plans to perform at her scheduled tour date in Birmingham, England, on Sunday, and at her second Manchester show, scheduled for Thursday.

Minaj first documented the incident on social media, including in footage she appears to have shot at an airport near Amsterdam. In one video, a man in a gray suit, whom Minaj later identified as her pilot, apologetically informed her that police needed to search all her luggage.

“He doesn’t believe you, that you have more with you than you say,” the man says.

The Style section

“He asked me if I had any more in my purses and I said no!” Minaj replies.

In another video, an officer tells Minaj to go to a police station. The footage shows Minaj, 41, refusing to do so and demanding a lawyer. She wrote on the social media platform X that authorities had found “weed” — or marijuana — in her baggage, which she said belonged to one of her security guards.

Robert Van Kapel, a spokesperson for the Netherlands military police, told the Associated Press that the agency had arrested a 41-year-old American woman on suspicion of “exporting soft drugs.” Police later said the woman arrested at Schiphol Airport had been fined and allowed to continue on her journey.

Dutch authorities did not immediately respond to questions from The Washington Post.

Minaj is in the middle of a world tour for her latest studio album, “Pink Friday 2.” She was due to perform Saturday evening at a Manchester concert hall, which delayed its opening by half an hour after reports of the arrest .

Minaj went dark on social media shortly after reporting that she had been asked to go to the police station, leaving fans uncertain whether she would make the concert. The venue, Co-Op Live, still opened its doors, and the BBC reported that thousands of people were waiting for her — some chanting “Free Nicki Minaj!”

The arena later announced that the show would be postponed to another date.

“Despite Nicki’s best efforts to explore every possible avenue to make tonight’s show happen, the events of today have made it impossible,” Co-Op Live wrote on X. “We are deeply disappointed by the inconvenience this has caused.”

Throughout the day, Minaj had repeatedly accused Dutch authorities of trying to prevent her from making it to the show.

“They’re being paid big money to try to sabotage my tour b/c soooooo many ppl are mad that it’s this successful & they can’t eat off me,” she wrote in one X post.

“This is Amsterdam btw, where weed is legal,” she wrote in another, inaccurately. Marijuana is technically illegal in the Netherlands but tolerated for recreational use. It cannot be taken on a plane .

Minaj’s representative could not immediately be contacted for comment.

Samantha Chery and Herb Scribner contributed to this report, which has been updated.
