Fit/Comfort

Traction/stability.

17 years ago adidas introduced the world of golf to the now iconic Tour360 golf shoe. With the combination of achievements in the professional and amateur ranks, as well as big commercial success, adidas has now unveiled the Tour360 22 version ($210/£160).

Finding ways to update a flagship franchise and bringing it into the modern game can be difficult, but adidas sought to do this by going back to the original designs, analysing what made them work, and implementing those ideas into the new model. adidas looked to focus on two areas that would effect all golfers - fit and traction. So how did the shoe perform? We tested a pair out on the course to find out.

adidas tour360 22 golf shoe

I have often struggled to get proper fitting golf shoes because my feet seem to be between a 9.5 and a 10, and sizing differs across brands. However this was not the case here as in a 10 my feet felt comfortable, snug and cocooned.

This partly comes down to the Feet You Wear last. First introduced in 1996, it mimics the natural shape of the foot and accommodates the movement of the foot in all directions, even throughout the golf swing. I definitely felt the shoe wrapped itself around my foot rather than having a set shoe shape my foot had to adhere to.

adidas tour360 22 golf shoe

Additionally, adidas has a new Tour360 FIT, which has several design elements -

  • Dualstack Midsole – Combination of Boost cushioning with EVA stability frame. This technology is difficult to see but I felt it around the forefoot and the arch of my foot as well. The support here really felt good.
  • Geofit Collar Pad – Located on the top of the foot, this piece gently conforms to the individual to provide a more personalized and comfortable fit.
  • Insite Sockliner - The sockliner also conforms to each individual foot and its contours, especially in the heel.

I am always slightly apprehensive with wearing new shoes straight out of the box, but these just felt good and I was not concerned about blisters, rubbing or anything of the sort. The only minor complaint was the heel can feel quite stiff but this is part of the point of the design, so the heel feels locked in. This is a tiny negative for me but on that note, and because of the other technology in the shoe, I think these golf shoes would help those players who suffer from plantar fasciitis pain.

adidas tour360 22 golf shoe

Next up is traction and stability. I tried this golf shoe out in dry, damp and wet conditions and overall there was a good amount of grip in all conditions. A model that will no doubt find itself going into our guide on the best spiked golf shoes , the Tour360 22 has cleats directly injected into the base of the shoe which means you won't ever have to worry about losing them.

This design touch, combined with a variety of spikes and traction elements, really gripped into the ground. During my golf swing I occasionally stand up on my toes which has often meant I slip in wet conditions, but I never felt a lack of trust with these shoes. I also really liked the fact they weren't creating any large marks of indentations on the greens, something that can be a problem during winter golf.

adidas tour360 22 golf shoe

Of course for any model to be considered as one of the best golf shoes on the market, durability is also vitally important. Despite noticing how light the shoes were when I picked them up and tried them on, they still felt sturdy and really well made. I have used golf shoes in the past that have occasionally had the odd bit of questionable stitching or a piece of material is slightly coming away from another, but none of that was true here. Despite my best efforts to be heavy-handed with the shoes, every element was locked in and properly constructed.

The upper features a premium rich leather which is 100 percent waterproof and you also get a one-year waterproof warranty as well which gives good peace of mind. adidas has also incorporated recycled materials into the design to continue the brand's goal of ending plastic waste.

adidas tour360 22 golf shoe sole

The leather upper is easy to clean, as is the outsole, but the Boost technology can be difficult to get spotless which is common on many of the best adidas golf shoes . Additionally because the stripes come away from the core upper part of the shoe, dirt can get behind there so that is something to be aware of.

adidas tour360 22 golf shoe stripes

A common negative comment I see online about the Tour360 is people asking whether the design has changed enough. I don't really understand that mindset - I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But this new shoe should keep everyone happy because it looks like the traditional Tour360, with design touches that make it look different to past models.

I was a big fan older Tour360s because of the classic look and three-stripe design, but the new model has found a way of incorporating some modern flourishes that really stand out. I tested the white, blue and orange model and the small splashes of color give a totally unique style. But adidas has not gone too far and the restraint the designers have shown makes these the best looking golf shoes I have ever used.

The new shoe will be offered in five models: both laced and BOA models for men and women, and a simplified lace model for junior golfers.

Download media, fit for all – tour360 22 introduces new era of fit and traction.

  • 24-JAN-2022

tour 360 22 golf

17 years ago, we introduced the TOUR360 to the world. At the time, we purposefully took a lot of risks when it came to design because we wanted to challenge conventional thinking on what a premium performance shoe could represent. That first model ushered-in an era for what has now become our flagship footwear franchise worn by major champions and amateurs all around the world. Today we’re introducing the next chapter: TOUR360 22.

After nearly two decades of building upon and improving that original model of the TOUR360, we went back to the beginning; adopting that same mindset of taking risks that ultimately drove the creation for that first model. With the TOUR360 22, our primary focus was to re-examine how we addressed two critical areas that are important for golfers of all skill levels: fit and traction.

To get there, we looked at historical models of the TOUR360 as well as our own brand archives from other categories for inspiration. We landed on a recipe of key features that makes this our best-performing TOUR360 to date. From the ground up, the TOUR360 22 sits on our Feet You Wear™ last, serving as the foundation for our NEW TOUR360 FIT , while our new direct-injected SPIKEMORE traction system will help golfers stay locked-in and increase confidence with every swing. It’s the first time in golf that we’ve included these features.

“The TOUR360 is synonymous with pinnacle technology and premium materials, and we remained true to that throughout the design process of this new model,” said Masun Denison, global footwear director, adidas Golf. “Golfers will instantly notice a more natural fit that offers better stability, better traction and amazing comfort. I’ve been a part of the creation of every model of the TOUR360, so I can confidently say that this is our best-performing model we have ever introduced.”

With so much lateral movement and weight transfer in the golf swing, we were intrigued with the use-cases that our brand’s Feet You Wear last had to offer. We first introduced Feet You Wear in 1996. The design mimics the natural shape of the foot, ultimately helping to create a better connection with the ground and accommodate the natural movements of the foot in all directions. Knowing how important the ground is in the golf swing, an added benefit of using the Feet You Wear last helps golfers utilize this connection with the ground to generate power more easily in the swing. The design truly hugs and cradles the natural contours of the foot to optimize performance.

The Feet You Wear last is just one component of our NEW TOUR360 FIT that we’re introducing with TOUR360 22. The NEW TOUR360 FIT includes:

  • DUALSTACK Midsole – We combined the comfort of our full-length BOOST cushioning with an EVA stability frame. This EVA stability frame is a horseshoe-shaped piece that surrounds our full-length BOOST with EVA chassis, strategically placed on the perimeter of the forefoot to provide golfers with lightweight stability, comfort and performance. It’s our most technical and advanced midsole that we have ever offered. The benefits are not easily seen, but certainly felt.
  • GEOFIT Collar Pad – Designed to enhance the fit and feel on the top of the foot, this piece gently conforms to the individual to provide a more personalized and comfortable fit.
  • 3D TORSION™ SYSTEM – Targeted stability in the midfoot, this mold plate enhances the connection with the ground while also helping to stabilize footwork throughout the swing.
  • INSITE Sockliner - Working in tandem with the Feet You Wear last, this sockliner cradles the contours of the foot, especially in the heel, to provide enhanced cushioning, comfort, and support.

We didn’t stop there. We’re introducing our latest iteration of SPIKEMORE with the TOUR360 22 that features cleats directly injected onto the TPU base. We found that by injecting the cleats, we could provide more precise locations that would allow us to adjust density, make the inside and outside arm shapes unique and adjust the size depending on where the cleat sits on the outsole. Each cleat also includes a center cone, which helps to improve overall grip. While larger than our spikes of the past, this new configuration and variance in size helps to disperse weight and promote increased green friendliness.

As part of our effort to improve fit, we collaborated with the team at BOA® Technology to elevate both the fit and performance for the BOA models of the TOUR360 22. We worked with their team at the BOA Fit Performance Lab to find a way to optimize both fit and function. The PerformFit Wrap™ system we created consists of two overlapping panels that pull down over the top of the instep. The BOA Fit System, featuring the micro-adjustable Li2 dial wraps around the heel, locking the foot into place while providing customized fit. The BOA model also features a sockfit construction, designed to give golfers ultimate support, stability, and confidence.

From adidas athlete Xander Schauffele:

“I got to see first-hand how much detail went into bringing this shoe to life and that was a really unique learning experience. Footwear is so important in the golf swing, but it can also help boost confidence. After spending quite a bit of time testing the TOUR360 22, I know golfers will feel a higher level of stability, traction and comfort, which are things we all need from our footwear out on the course so that we can perform our best.”

From adidas athlete Dustin Johnson:

“I’ve worn almost every model of TOUR360 since I started my career and I’m always amazed at how the footwear team continues to raise the bar year after year. I really like the design and style with this new model, but the traction, feel and comfort I get definitely make this the best version of the TOUR360 that I’ve ever worn.”

From adidas athlete Danielle Kang:

“The TOUR360 22 is packed with so much innovation and technology that I could feel the difference the minute I put them on. What impressed me the most was how meticulous the team was throughout the design process, and I think the final product is a testament to adidas’ commitment to never stop striving for better. I’m really excited to perform in it this season.”

The TOUR360 22 continues to include the best materials for enhanced durability, but now with even more purpose. The upper features premium rich leather (one-year waterproof warranty), microfiber, and textiles that incorporate recycled materials, all part of our mission as a brand to help END PLASTIC WASTE.

TOUR360 is our most iconic franchise and we’ve taken it to new heights for all athletes. The TOUR360 22 will be offered in five models: both laced and BOA models for men and women, and a simplified lace model for junior golfers.

The laced models of the TOUR360 22 will be available at adidas.com , the adidas app, and at select retailers worldwide beginning January 28. The BOA models will be available shortly thereafter, beginning March 1.

50 Words or Less

The Adidas Tour360 22 BOA golf shoe is an athletic shoe that tunes your fit perfectly.  The outer BOA Fit System is comfortable and adds stability all while incorporating recycled waterproof materials to keep feet dry.

tour 360 22 golf

Introduction

The Adidas Tour360 has been Adidas’s marquee golf shoe for years.  The BOA version eliminates laces and adds a feature to perfect the fit.  Highlights for the 2022 model include an outer wrap that helps with  stability, interior padding that molds to your foot over time, and recycled materials for those looking to better the environment.  Is the new Adidas Tour360 22 BOA system beneficial for the weekend golfer?  I took these to the course to find out.

tour 360 22 golf

First thing that popped out when I opened the box was the BOA closure dial that replaces traditional laces.  This wire closure attaches to an outer canopy of sorts that tightens the shoe.   When suited up, the BOA wrap gives the shoe an athletic look .  It reminds me of something I’d see on a football field, which is a refreshing break from the traditional golf shoe style.

Although the shoe is mostly white, the orange sole really pops and adds a touch of flare.   The Adidas Tour360 22 BOA also comes in an all black version as well if white isn’t your thing.  Colors aside, the entire outer layer of the shoe is made of leather and other waterproof materials that can be easily cleaned to keep them looking new for an extended period of time.

New for 2022, the  spikes on the bottom are noticeably wider but not replaceable.  The heel and sole are comprised of the foam material which we have seen before.

tour 360 22 golf

The Adidas Tour360 22 BOA golf shoes were  more comfortable than I had anticipated .  The foam insert and sock liner padded my foot well and became more comfortable with time.  The BOA Fit System made it easy to adjust the tightness, but it is limited to the top of the foot and ankle.  It doesn’t affect the toe box area at all, but it helped solidify my foot inside the shoe .  I would’ve liked to see the BOA closure produce a wider spectrum of tightness.  The difference between the tightest setting and the loosest setting was not as much as other BOA closure systems I have used.

The back of the shoe has an extra high ankle tab that acts as a shoe horn.  This is particularly useful since the shoe opening is not adjustable.  The tab is also flared away from the ankle which prevents blisters from developing.    Sizing is spot on so I would recommend going with your typical golf shoe size.

tour 360 22 golf

Performance

When I put these on, I immediately noticed the wide base and extra interior padding.  The foam sole and larger spikes made me stand taller and yet still well connected to the ground.    I had plenty of confidence to make an aggressive swing in any condition.  I also enjoyed the ease of pulling the BOA knob out and releasing some tension throughout my round.  This was a feature I didn’t know I needed.

The BOOST foam insert was comfortable and reliable in keeping my foot from aching after 18 holes.  I had no issues walking in these for an entire round.  The sock liner and padded collar made a big difference.  I’ve tested a lot of shoes and these are among the most comfortable golf spikes I have ever owned.

As mentioned earlier, the leather recycled materials are totally waterproof and kept my feet completely dry even in the wettest conditions.  Considering this is an almost all white shoe, I appreciated the absence of cloth materials for cleaning sake.  I was able to wipe dirt and debris off with a damp cloth to get them looking brand new again.

The Adidas Tour360 BOA golf shoes are listed at $250 a pair and come with a 2 year manufacturer’s warranty against any defects.  The laced version costs $210 and can be seen HERE .

tour 360 22 golf

The Adidas Tour360 22 BOA shoe has the looks of an athletic shoe but it carries a ton of performance tricks up its sleeve.  The wide spikes allow for traction while the BOA Fit System helps fine tune your fit.  If you crave more stability and support in your shoe and hate tying laces, try the 2022 Adidas Tour 360 22 BOA golf shoe.

Professional golfer Grayson Murray has died. He was 30 years old. Murray's death comes after he withdrew Friday during the second round of the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge, citing an illness.

A day after Murray's death rocked the larger sporting world, his parents announced in a statement through the PGA Tour that he died by suicide.

"We would like to thank the PGA Tour and the entire world of golf for the outpouring of support," Eric and Terry Murray said. "Life wasn't always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now."

An undeniable talent, Murray was the second-youngest golfer in history to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour before turning eventually pro in 2015. He bounced up and down between the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour over the course of his career, becoming a polarizing figure at times because of frequent outbursts on the course.

Still, his potential consistently flashed as he won twice on the PGA Tour -- capturing the 2017 Barbasol Championship and 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii -- and three times on the Korn Ferry Tour.

When he won the Sony Open, it seemed as if Murray had turned a corner after battling anxiety, depression and alcohol abuse throughout his young career. He said in January that he had been sober since early 2023. He also shared that he was unprepared for life as a pro when he first got out of college and began traveling.

"Yes, I would drink during tournament weeks," Murray said after his Sony Open win. "It was my outlet. I thought I was invincible coming out here as a 22-year-old, winning as a rookie, played three days hungover when I won. Best thing and worst thing that ever happened to me was winning my rookie year -- but also feeling like I was invincible."

Murray cited his faith and his fiancee as helping ground him, and he spoke about his road to recovery.

"It took me a long time to get to this point," he said. "… I'm a different man now. I would not be in this position right now today if I didn't put that drink down eight months ago."

Murray added: "People who don't know me, I'll have to show it through my actions, and they'll get back on Grayson's side. My demeanor is so much better. It's really a lot of fun now. I really don't live and die by a golf shot anymore. I'm not going to sit here and say it's going to be all glory and roses, but it's going to be a lot better."

The PGA Tour considered postponing play at the Charles Schwab Challenge as the golf world was rocked by Murray's death . However, his parents insisted the tournament continue as scheduled as it was what their son would have wanted.

"We were devastated to learn -- and are heartbroken to share -- that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words," said PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan in a Saturday statement. "The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.

"I reached out to Grayson's parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play. They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes."

A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Murray attended Wake Forest, East Carolina and Arizona State where he played golf before turning pro. In 141 career PGA Tour starts, Murray had 10 top-10 finishes, including those two victories.

The PGA Tour has sent grief counselors to both tournament sites this week and made others available virtually for its members.

PGA Tour, LIV Golf merger creates even bigger 'monopoly,' but at what price?

Liv golf had sued the pga tour and accused it of being a monopoly. now that they're merging, isn't that an even bigger monopoly.

tour 360 22 golf

Editor's note: For the latest on the LIV Golf and PGA Tour merger,  follow USA TODAY Sports' live updates here.

Something seems awfully ironic about this big new merger between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.

When LIV Golf and several pro golfers sued the PGA Tour last year for alleged antitrust violations, their attorneys used the word “monopoly” in their complaint against the PGA Tour 44 times in 118 pages.

“Elite Professional Golf Has Stagnated Under the PGA Tour’s Monopoly,” said the amended complaint on Page 22.

The lawsuit describes alleged abuses by the Tour as a “monopoly power,” saying the tour engaged in the “unlawful monopolization of the market for the promotion of elite professional golf events.”

“The Tour’s actions are transparently anticompetitive, as they are aimed purely at kneecapping competition from LIV Golf before it can get off the ground and threaten the Tour’s monopoly,” the complaint states.

But now that litigation is being resolved by merging the two leagues into an even bigger possible “monopolization of the market for the promotion of elite professional golf events.”

Can they do that? And what does that mean for the game?

In some ways, pro sports fans in America have seen this movie before, such as when the American Football League and the NFL merged after an expensive bidding war for players and then permission from the government amid antitrust concerns.

This is different, said Marc Edelman, law professor and antitrust expert at Baruch College. The NFL needed an act of Congress before it merged.

“It’s going to be very hard after LIV Golf has spent a year litigating and claiming the PGA Tour is a monopoly to then turn around and claim their merger with the PGA Tour would not substantially lessen competition in a relevant market,” Edelman said by phone Tuesday.

Much of it could depend on the details of the deal, which haven’t been revealed. In the meantime, USA TODAY Sports consulted with legal experts about how the Saudi Arabia-backed LIV Golf league resolved its complaints of a U.S. monopoly by creating an even bigger global combination with more power and money than ever.

Isn’t this just another monopoly?

It depends. And it’s really up to the U.S. government to decide if it’s legal. The U.S. Department of Justice already had been looking into possible anticompetitive practices of the PGA Tour after it tried to fend off LIV Golf as a rival league and punish players for joining it.

“The PGA-LIV merger is another in a long line of successful efforts by entrenched monopoly organizers of sporting competitions to maintain their dominance through predatory behavior directed toward rivals, followed by swallowing them up,” said Steve Ross, a law professor at Penn State and former attorney with the DOJ and Federal Trade Commission. “From the point of view of law and economics, (PGA Tour commissioner) Jay Monahan is no different than John D. Rockefeller, putting independent gas stations out of business and then folding them into Standard Oil.”

The DOJ declined comment Tuesday. Ross said in an e-mail to USA TODAY Sports that he hoped the DOJ’s antitrust division would review the merger agreement to determine if consumers would be better or worse off because of the arrangement.

“Certainly, allowing all the best golfers to participate at major events is responsive to consumer preference, which the Supreme Court has stated is the 'hallmark' of antitrust,” Ross said. “We can fully assess the overall competitive effect of the merger only after examining the details of the agreement.”

How will it affect the product?

Without viable competition, monopolies theoretically can raise prices for consumers, underpay their labor and not care about customer complaints.

In this case, the new golf entity would “dominate the market for men's professional golf,” said Mark Conrad, director of the sports business concentration and associate professor of law and ethics at Fordham. “No doubt.”

How that domination is exercised is the question. Not surprisingly, Monahan described it as a positive for the PGA Tour “to take the competitor off of the board” after being driven into an expensive competition and legal battle by LIV Golf.

“The concept here is one entity controlling what’s there – fees, sponsorships, admission tickets,” said Martin Edel, co-chair of the Sports Law Practice of Goulston & Storrs in New York. “That’s more controllable (with the merger) and less subject to competition.”

On one hand, a new gusher of money for golf arguably will lift the sport and its players. Elite pro golf will benefit from a massive influx of resources, courtesy of the oil-rich Saudis, whose record on human rights still will continue to taint the relationship . That investment could enhance the game with more innovation, bigger purses and promotion of the game around the world.

What about players?

On the other hand, LIV no longer needs to throw seemingly unlimited money at top golfers to get them to defect from the PGA Tour. Phil Mickelson got his $200 million from LIV just in time .

“The brief period of free agency that golfers had is now gone,” longtime athlete agent Leigh Steinberg told USA TODAY Sports Tuesday. “From the standpoint of representing a golfer on the PGA Tour, that golfer has had options and choices, and that golfer had the competitive bidding between two different tours, one which had very deep pockets. That was a brief period of freedom.”

But nobody’s going to go broke in his merger. By pouring money into the sport, the Saudis could enhance the visibility of golfers globally, further boosting their potential earning power from endorsements.

“A rising tide is going to help all of golfers,” Steinberg said. “On the other hand, the chance to break the monopoly power of the PGA is gone.”

What about that antitrust litigation?

The PGA Tour said the announcement of the merger Tuesday would be followed by a “mutually agreed end to all pending litigation between the participating parties.”

That’s disappointing to Ross at Penn State as an antitrust professor.

“The settlement of litigation precludes a clear holding that dominant competition organizers cannot harm their fans in the short run by degrading their own product in order to exclude others, as the PGA sought to do,” Ross said in his e-mail. “If not for Saudi wealth, the innovative LIV concept likely would have folded.  Consumers and sponsors of top-rated PGA events were deprived of top stars like Dustin Johnson and Cameron Smith, it seems to me, primarily to quash LIV.”

This kind of anticompetitive behavior is bad for fans, he said, because the fear of predatory behavior by the monopoly power can suppress innovation by smaller competitors.

“For years, industry leaders like Tiger Woods have complained that the PGA was not deploying its commercial assets in an optimal manner,” Ross said. “Only after LIV’s entry did the PGA respond in a significant way.”

Will it become the NFL of golf?

Other pro sports leagues have merged with upstart competitors and survived antitrust issues. The NFL did with the AFL. The NBA did with the American Basketball Association.

Both leagues are now corporate giants with huge followings, highly paid players and regular complaints from customers about the high price of tickets and cable viewership .

“It’s very rare for a governmental entity to go after a league or a tour claiming it has violated antitrust laws, principally because sports involves a degree of cooperation (between franchises), in order to create a better competitive environment,” Edel said.

Major League Baseball still enjoys an antitrust exemption, for example.

At the same time, Edel notes the Biden Administration is taking a “much more aggressive approach” with antitrust laws. The involvement of the Saudis adds political considerations to the mix, too.

The merger faces a “very uphill battle” to gain approval from the government, Edelman of Baruch College said. “The statements that have been made by LIV Golf for an extended period of time contending that the PGA Tour operated as a monopoly will prove to be very possibly a statement against interests.”

We added two more integrated spikes in the forefoot, bringing the total to six for great grip. We placed the spikes under the Air Zoom unit to provide better energy return and added comfort throughout your round.

Low and Stable

The Air Zoom unit is lower to the ground, offering you better stability without sacrificing responsiveness when marching from hole to hole.

Stability for Swings

The updated midsole foam offers a different level of stability for a more consistent underfoot feel, helping keep you level when swinging for the green or walking down the middle of the fairway.

The upper is made of Nike Flyweave construction, which gives you lightweight strength and containment. The lightweight stretch skin in the upper helps keep water out and makes the shoe easier to clean.

Memorial Tournament 2024 Betting Card From A Gambler Who Just Nailed The RBC Canadian Open Winner

We head to Jack’s Place for the Memorial Tournament 2024 this week. This is one of three "signature events" with a cut on the PGA TOUR in 2024. The other two are the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Genesis Invitational. All the PGA TOUR’s best tee up at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio in a 71-golfer field. At stake is a $4 million paycheck and a handshake from the man himself, Jack Nicklaus.

Muirfield is Nicklaus’s ode to Augusta National, host of The Masters. A Par-72 at 7,571 yards, Jack’s Place is the fifth-toughest course on TOUR. It is the second-hardest course to gain strokes around-the-green (ARG) on TOUR behind Augusta. Both have firm, fast and undulating Bentgrass greens. There are 12 holes with water danger at Jack’s Place . Golfweek reported Muirfield had the 3rd-most balls hit into the water from 2003-21.

That said, I've buried the lede , which is ya boy hit his second outright of the 2024 PGA TOUR season with Robert MacIntyre at last week's RBC Canadian Open . At +8000 odds, MacIntyre added 21 units (u) to my bankroll. Unfortunately, my other RBC Canadian Open bets lost, so I only won 16u last week. I'm still stuck -38.86u heading into the Memorial, but I'm a couple of tough beats away from a winning season and I predict I'll get above $0 by year's end.

Memorial Tournament 2024 Betting Card

Stats courtesy of Bet The Number from the Tour Junkies and the PGA Tour.

‘Horses for the Course’

The odds chosen are the best available at legal U.S. sportsbooks as of 11 a.m. ET Tuesday, June 4th.

Collin Morikawa (+1400)

Morikawa is third in total strokes gained (SG) over the last 20 rounds, per Bet The Number . He is fourth in my Memorial Tournament Eyeball Test behind Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Viktor Hovland. The two-time major champion plays well at difficult golf courses, including Muirfield and Augusta, again, the biggest comp to Jack’s Place .

Collin finished fifth in the 2022 Masters, T10 last year, and T3 in April. Last year, Morikawa was two shots back of the lead entering Round 4 before withdrawing with back spasms. He lost to Patrick Cantlay in a playoff at the Memorial in 2021 and won the 2020 Workday Charity Open at Muirfield.

As a result of his short-game being on point, Morikawa has contended in recent starts. Collin followed up his T3 at the 2024 Masters with a ninth at the RBC Heritage ("signature event"), T16 at the Wells Fargo Championship ("signature event" and host of the 2025 PGA Championship), T4 at the 2024 PGA Championship, and fourth at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

He has gained strokes ARG in his last five starts with PGA TOUR’s shot-link data and four of the previous five on the greens, per DataGolf.com. Morikawa had respectable finishes at the RBC and Wells Fargo despite losing strokes with his irons. Aside from Scheffler, Collin is the best iron player on TOUR and is second in driving accuracy this season. If Morikawa is chipping and putting well, he’s a threat to win any tournament.

BET 1.6 units (u) on Collin Morikawa (+1400) at FanDuel to profit 22.5u.

Viktor Hovland (+1800)

For whatever reason, Hovland stopped working with swing coach Joe Mayo this offseason after winning the 2023 BMW and TOUR Championships and Ryder Cup at the end of last season. It was stupid. He "went down rabbit holes", per PGATOUR.com, and it messed his game up. Hovland is having a terrible season. Before placing third at the 2024 PGA Championship, his best finish this year was a T19 at The Genesis Invitational.

The six-time PGA TOUR champion had the second-best odds, at 10-1, behind Scheffler to win the first event of the season, The Sentry. In his last start, the PGA Championship, Hovland was 40-1. That should be his low point because Hovland looked like his old self at Valhalla Golf Club for the PGA.

Per Bet The Number , Viktor gained strokes in the four key golf stats: Off-the-Tee (OTT), Approach (APP), Around-the-Green (ARG), and Putting at the PGA. This begs the question: What changed? Answer: He came to his senses and re-hired Mayo, the swing coach Viktor was working with last year when he had his best season on TOUR.

Hovland won the first "big boy" tournament of his career, the Memorial, then the second round of the 2023 FedExCup Playoffs (BMW) and TOUR Championship. Now that Mayo is back, Viktor will contend at the remaining majors and "signature events".

BET 1.25u on Viktor Hovland (+1800) at Caesars to profit 22.5u.

Hideki matsuyama (+4500).

‘Deki won a green jacket in 2022 and the 2014 Memorial was his first win on the PGA TOUR. Matsuyama cashed a top-20 bet for me in the 2023 Memorial, and it looked like he might win the thing. His 65 (-7) Friday was the best round in last year’s Memorial. Hideki was -9 through 38 holes before melting down and shooting a third-round 75 (+3). But, Hovland won the 2024 Memorial with a -7, so Matsuyama’s -9 would’ve been good enough.

And the nine-time PGA TOUR champion is playing better this year. Last season, Hideki was plagued with back and neck injuries. He’s still dealing with injuries. But, he won The Genesis Invitational, a "signature event", in February. Matsuyama has three more T12 or better finishes in 2024: T12 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational ("signature event"), T6 at THE PLAYERS Championship ("signature event"), and T7 at the Valero Texas Open.

Matsuyama is sixth in my 32-round model at Bet The Number . He’s been fantastic ARG and with his long irons lately. In fact, Hideki leads the field in both SG: ARG and SG on APP shots from 175+ yards out over the last 32 rounds. Matsuyama knows his way around Muirfield and comes into the Memorial in good form. Ultimately, Hideki is fifth in my 2024 Memorial Tournament Eyeball Test and is +3500 by the odds.

BET 0.5u on Hideki Matsuyama (+4500) at FanDuel to profit 22.5u.

  • I'm also putting a 0.5u bet on Hideki Matsuyama Top-10 (+275) to profit 1.5u at BetMGM.

Will Zalatoris (+7000)

I’m "buying low" on Zalatoris. He’s performed worse than his odds in five of his last six starts: Missed cut at THE PLAYERS, T74 at the Houston Open, T44 at the RBC Heritage, missed cut at the Zurich Classic, T60 at the Wells Fargo, and T43 at the PGA. However, Muirfield is a better course for Zalatoris than those other places.

Willy Z finished T5 in his first Memorial as a full-time TOUR pro in 2022. He plays well at Augusta, which, like Muirfield, has Bentgrass greens. Zalatoris is a notoriously bad putter. But, he was second in his Masters debut in 2021, T6 in 2022, and T9 in April, and gained strokes putting in all three career starts at Augusta.

Given how tough Muirfield can play in certain years, the winning score could be -15 or less. That’s a score he can make a tough course. Zalatoris shot a -15 in his only career win on TOUR, the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind, another comp course to Muirfield, because both have a lot of water danger.

tour 360 22 golf

Golfweek reported that from 2003-22, Muirfield had the third-most balls hit in the water of any course on TOUR, ahead of PGA National (fourth), and behind TPC Sawgrass (second) and Southwind (first). Muirfield and PGA National are both Nicklaus designs and TPC Sawgrass was designed by Nicklaus’s course architect mentor, Pete Dye.

Regardless of the golf course designer, the bottom line is that Zalatoris plays well in difficult conditions. Will has gained strokes on APP and OTT in his last 10 majors, according to DataGolf.com. Before the 2024 Memorial odds came out, I wrote "My ‘buy price’ on Zalatoris at Muirfield is +7000 or better".

BET 0.3u on Will Zalatoris (+7500) at FanDuel to profit 22.5u.

  • I'm also putting a 0.7u bet on Will Zalatoris Top-20 (+170 with ties) to profit 1.19u at DraftKings.

Additional Finishing Position Bets

Make placement bets at BetMGM or DraftKings Sportsbooks. BetMGM doesn't apply "dead heat" rules and DraftKings now has top-5, -10, and -20 bets that "include ties".

Scottie Scheffler Top-5 (-130): 1.3u to profit 1u

Do you realize what needs to happen for Scheffler to finish outside the top-five? He was T8 at the PGA Championship last month despite becoming a father for the first time the weekend prior, getting arrested Friday, May 17th outside the golf course hours before his second-round tee time, and his caddie, Ted Scott, missing the third round to celebrate his daughter’s high school graduation.

That’s insane.

Otherwise, Scheffler is having a hall-of-fame-caliber season. He has eight top-five finishes in 12 starts, including a T2 at the Charles Schwab two weeks ago. Scottie won four tournaments over five starts in March and April: The Arnold Palmer, THE PLAYERS, The Masters, and the RBC Heritage. Scheffler was T2 in the other, the Texas Children’s Houston Open, and missed a 5-foot putt on the final hole to force a playoff.

READ: Scottie Scheffler In The Clear After Jefferson County Attorney Drops All Charges Against PGA Tour Star

Scottie ranks first on my 32-round model at Bet The Number and my 2024 Memorial Tournament Eyeball Test . Scheffler is the best ball striker on the planet, has great touch ARG, and has gained strokes with his putter in seven straight starts. This will be a jinx, but Scheffler finishing inside the top five of a golf tournament is a LOCK .

Keegan Bradley Top-20 (+150): 0.75u to profit 1.13u

He is so close to putting it all together. Bradley finished T2 at the Charles Schwab two weeks ago while losing strokes with his irons. That’s usually his specialty; Keegan is 20th in SG: APP on TOUR this season. Entering the Charles Schwab, Bradley gained strokes with his irons in six straight starts, including three "signature events" and two majors.

Besides back-to-back T8 finishes at the Memorial in 2015-16, Keegan’s results at Muirfield have been meh. But, he won the Travelers Championship last year ("signature event") and he’s second on TOUR this season in "Apex Height", which could help him land softly on Muirfield’s firm and fast greens.

Bradley has gained strokes with his driver in 12 of his 13 career Memorials, according to Fantasy National . Finally, Bradley struggles putting, but Bentgrass is his best putting surface. Keegan has gained strokes on the greens in three visits to Muirfield.

Si Woo Kim Top-20 (+130): 0.8u to profit 1.04u.

Muirfield rewards precision and Kim is one of the PGA TOUR's most accurate ball strikers. This season, Kim is eighth in SG: APP and fifth in driving accuracy. Si Woo has finished T18 or better in four consecutive Memorials: T18 in 2020, T9 in 2021, T13 in 2022, and fourth last year.

Another reason Kim plays well at Muirfield is because he can save par when missing greens. Over the last 32 rounds, Si Woo is 11th in this field in SG: ARG, per Bet The Number . Muirfield is one of the toughest courses on TOUR for ARG play. In his last three Memorials, Kim was +2.2, +3.7, and +3.8 SG: ARG.

Finally, Si Woo has seven top-20 finishes on TOUR this season. This includes a T14 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am ("signature event"), T12 at the WM Phoenix Open, T6 at THE PLAYERS, T17 at the Houston Open, T18 at the RBC Heritage, T13 at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, and T16 at the Wells Fargo.

Memorial Tournament 2024 One-And-Done Pick: Viktor Hovland

After 20 PGA TOUR events in the 2024 Mayo Cup, I'm 705th of 4,400 entries with $10,154,877 collected. My one-and-done choice for the 2024 RBC Canadian Open, Shane Lowry , added only $54,755 to my season-long balance. But, hey, that's an improvement over my previous two selections, which both missed the cut. Yet, Lowry's T33 in Canada took me out of the money in the Mayo Cup.

Jack Nicklaus gives a thumbs up to Viktor Hovland following his win at the 2024 Memorial Tournament. (Adam Cairns/Columbus Dispatch/USA TODAY Network)

I hate that I'm picking Hovland because I know he'll be chalk this week. Nonetheless, it's make-or-break time for me in this contest and I need to add at least $1 million to my balance. Plus, I've used Scheffler, Morikawa, Xander, and Rory already. Finally, Valhalla is another Nicklaus design similar to Muirfield. Well, Hovland won at Muirfield last year, lit up Valhalla two weeks ago, and will contend in the Memorial again this week.

Analysis: A year after PGA Tour's surprise deal with Saudis, still no clarity on where golf is going

One year after the PGA Tour announced a proposed deal with the backers of LIV Golf, there still aren’t many answers about where golf is headed and how to repair the fractured landscape with great players on two tours

DUBLIN, Ohio — PGA champion Xander Schauffele was on the 10th tee at Muirfield Village for a late Monday afternoon practice round to start the week of the Memorial. Just the sight of him was enough to bring back memories of golf then and now.

So much has changed. So little is known. And there’s still no clarity where golf is headed and how to repair such a splintered sport created by Saudi money and a secret deal .

It was a year ago at the Memorial that Schauffele was playing nine holes of the Wednesday pro-am, starting on the 10th tee. Two of his amateur partners that day were PGA Tour board members — Ed Herlihy, the board chairman, and Jimmy Dunne.

Unbeknownst to Schauffele — unbeknownst to every PGA Tour player — was that Dunne and Herlihy, along with PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan, had been secretly meeting with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia , the financial backers of the rival LIV Golf circuit that already had lured away some of golf’s biggest names with guaranteed riches.

The pro-am was on May 31. The famous “framework agreement” for a commercial deal among the PGA Tour, PIF and the European tour had been signed on May 30.

Most curious was when Herlihy saw a familiar face and suggested a phone call in the near future because “we have a lot of good things coming.”

It wasn’t until six days later that Monahan and Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the PIF governor, appeared on CNBC to announce that former enemies were now in business together . It remains one of the most stunning developments in golf — not just making the deal with the Saudis, but keeping the entire membership (and the majority of the PGA Tour board) in the dark.

That was June 6, 2023. It’s rare in golf for anything to be identified by a date.

Monahan flew from New York to the Canadian Open for a player meeting later that day and was blistered by players who wanted answers.

A year later, does anyone have them?

For all the moving parts — and there have been plenty — what often gets overlooked is one important aspect to the framework agreement. While it was never finalized by the end of 2023, the stated deadline, it did away with the antitrust lawsuit by PIF-funded LIV and the countersuit by the PGA Tour. The tour already was said to have spent close to $50 million in legal fees.

The rest of the road forward has trudged uphill (still no commercial deal with PIF).

And it has moved quickly and quirkily.

Tiger Woods was appointed to the board with no term limits. Rory McIlroy resigned from the board and then was put back into play as a non-voting member of a negotiating committee , but only after a failed attempt for him to replace Webb Simpson .

From the business side, Randall Stephenson of AT&T resigned from the board abruptly last summer over the proposed deal with the Saudis. In the last month alone, Dunne and board member Mark Flaherty resigned.

It’s a lot easier to keep track of birdies and bogeys.

There were two Senate hearings. The agreement got the attention of the Justice Department, which led to both sides in July doing away with an anti-poaching clause in the agreement. Four months later, Jon Rahm was on his way to LIV .

The new for-profit company known as PGA Tour Enterprises received interest from private equity, and the tour narrowed its list of suitors to Strategic Sports Group by the end of the year. SSG, a group of North American pro sports owners led by Fenway Sports Group, announced a $1.5 billion investment that could be twice that much.

The tour is still negotiating for PIF to become a minority investor, but it took until March before players on the PGA Tour Enterprises board even met with Al-Rumayyan .

Jordan Spieth is on the board. He replaced McIlroy, who resigned in November. Spieth said two weeks ago that any suggestions that negotiations are “in a bad place and are moving slowly” are not true.

“I think ultimately we’ll end up in a place where professional golf is maybe the best that it’s ever been. I think both sides believe that,” he said at Colonial.

Still no details. No clear road map.

It was Spieth who said in late January that with SSG as an investor, he didn’t think a deal was needed with PIF except for unification in the sport. That put him at odds with McIlroy, who wants desperately for golf’s best players to be brought back together more than four times a year at the majors.

There even is friction inside the PGA Tour — lingering bad feelings toward Monahan for going behind the players’ backs, and even which players were worth how much under a first-of-its-kind program that distributed $930 million in equity shares .

Perhaps the biggest change from a year ago is players now have a majority voice on the board. The argument has always been that while it’s their tour, the players are more skilled with a 4-iron than running a business valued to be worth upward of $10 billion.

But the bigger question is what exactly do they want? Where is golf headed, and how does it get put back together?

Schauffele made the biggest putt of his life to win the PGA Championship by one shot over Bryson DeChambeau, who reminded golf fans what they’ve been missing. He’s an entertainer. Brooks Koepka won the PGA Championship last year and was put on the Ryder Cup team with 11 players who stayed loyal to the PGA Tour.

Koepka, DeChambeau, Rahm, Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson are still only available to watch on CW, the app or the network.

They are in Houston this week if anyone was wondering.
