Majestic Princess Itineraries

Majestic princess review, review of majestic princess.

The 2017-built Majestic Princess cruise ship is the 3rd Royal-class vessel in the Princess Cruises fleet, together with the fleet mates Royal Princess (2013), Regal Princess (2014), Sky Princess (2019), Enchanted Princess (2021) and Discovery Princess (2022). From the same class is also the P&O UK ship Britannia (2015).

The vessel (IMO number 9614141) is currently UK- flagged (MMSI 232002990) and registered in Southampton .

History - construction and ownership

Princess Cruises is a USA-based passenger shipping company headquartered in Beverly Hills CA. A former subsidiary of P&O Princess Cruises (1977-founded), in 2003, the company merged with Carnival Corporation - the world's largest cruise shipowner. Among Princess Cruise Lines Ltd's assets is the Caribbean private island resort Princess Cays (on Bahamas Eleuthera Island's southern end), located approx 80 km (50 mi) from Nassau .

Majestic Princess cruise ship

The 3560-passenger ship Majestic Princess is among the largest liners. The liner carries the Chinese name - Sheng Shigrave; Gong Zhu Hao on its hull, chosen by Carnival Corporation's Chinese employees. It is translated as “Grand World” (or “Grand Spirit”).

Signature features of sister-ships Regal and Royal include multiple dining venues; cantilevered SkyWalk; multi-story atrium; outdoor cinema Movies Under the Stars; adults-only Sanctuary complex. Tai Chi at sea, ballroom dancing, Chinese satellite TV channels and subtitled Hollywood movies are among the Chinese experiences of “Princess Class”, rolled out to the local cruise market.

Princess Cruises announced on February 8, 2016, on Chinese New Year, that its first cruise ship designed and built specifically for the China market, Majestic Princess (盛世公主号), is also the fleet's first vessel with the company's new livery design.

Also on February 8, 2016, the new ship reached a significant construction milestone when Majestic Princess “floated out” in its building dock at Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. The ship met the ocean for the first time and the occasion was marked by a traditional ceremony.

Majestic Princess was scheduled for delivery on April 4, 2017, in Civitavecchia-Rome . The ship (homeported in Shanghai China ) offers many of the same special features as Regal Princess and Royal Princess . Among those are a multistory atrium serving as a social hub; a top-deck glass-bottomed over-the-ocean SeaWalk (extending 28ft beyond the ship's edge), Princess Live! (interactive studio), Chef’s Table Lumiere (private dining room).

Majestic Princess has new venues created specifically for China's cruising market.

Decks and Cabins

Majestic Princess staterooms (1780 total, in 38 categories) include 350 Suites, 1088 Balcony and 342 Inside cabins, in 38 categories. The ship has no Oceanview cabins. Most outside accommodations (1438) have private step-out balconies. The ship also has 36 wheelchair-accessible cabins. The largest are the Balcony Suites (470 ft2 / 44 m2 plus 210 ft2 / 20 m2 terrace).

The boat has 18 decks , of which 15 are passenger-accessible and 8 with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

There are many for-fee dining options onboard Majestic Princess, but guests who would rather not pay are offered enough quality and variety to satisfy. Those who prefer tradition can choose between the three main dining rooms.

Princess Cruises new ship design (Lido restaurant)

World Fresh Marketplace is the buffet option, providing a more casual vibe. Passengers who want to have lunch in their swimsuits can take a burger from Trident Grill or a slice at Prego Pizzeria. Indoors, Alfredo's features delicious calzones, salads and thin-crust pizza.

Majestic Princess boasts two new restaurant concepts - "Harmony" and "La Mer" (Bistro Sur La Mer/in 2023 replaced with "The Catch by Rudi").

Harmony is a modern specialty restaurant with a sophisticated Chinese dinner menu by Michelin-star chef Richard Chen.

La Mer (cover charge US$35 per person) was an authentic Parisian bistro with a fine dining dinner menu featuring French cuisine by Michelin-star chef Emmanuel Renaut. Itineraries

Majestic Princess itinerary program was initially based on year-round Asian cruises - from China to Japan and South Korea, with roundtrip departures from homeport Shanghai China .

Following the Coronavirus crisis in 2020, for season 2021-2022 Majestic Princess cruises along the US West Coast (California) and Mexico Riviera with 7-day roundtrip itineraries from homeport Los Angeles .

In 2018, the ship had scheduled two 14-day Grand Asia cruises between Shanghai and Singapore . Available to both Chinese and international cruise tourists, these 2018 itineraries visit South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand and Japan, including a late-night visit to Hong Kong . The first cruise departs Shanghai on February 25, the second departs Singapore on March 11.

During season 2018-2019 (September 2018 through March 2019), the ship was homeported in Sydney NSW Australia . This made it the ever-largest Princess vessel to operate on the Australia-New Zealand market. After the Australian deployment, the ship returned to China. During the inaugural Australian season, Majestic Princess had scheduled a total of 16 itineraries to South Pacific Island destinations (Fiji, NZ, Tasmania), plus 2 repositioning cruises - southbound (Shanghai to Sydney) and northbound (Sydney to Hong Kong).

In 2018 (April through July) the ship was homeported in Keelung Taiwan for 3-4-night roundtrips (short breaks and longer itineraries) to ports in Japan and China. Following the Taiwan-based program, the liner returned to Shanghai, and then was deployed in Australia (September 2018 through March 2019).

For winter season 2024-2025, the ship was slated to debut in the Caribbean (14-day roundtrips from Fort Lauderdale Florida USA /Jan-Feb 2025). Prior to the Caribbean deployment (Dec 2024-Jan 2025) were scheduled several voyages around South America - leaving from Los Angeles, visiting ports in Mexico, Panama, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, and ending in Port Everglades/Fort Lauderdale.

Majestic Princess Wiki

The vessel's powerplant includes four Wartsila marine diesel engines (model 46F, 2x 12V and 2x 14V) with combined power output 62,4 MW (83,700 hp). The propulsion system is based on two azipods with combined power output 18 MW (24,000 hp).

The ship has Fincantieri Monfalcone yard/hull number 6232, volume 144216 GT-tons, DWT-deadweight tonnage 11277 tons, LOA length 330 m, beam 38 m (max width 47 m/including the Navigation Bridge's wings), max draught 8,6 m.

Fun facts: It takes 3 million man-hours to build a Royal-class liner. For its construction are used 37,000 tons of steel. For instance, about 12,000 tons of steel were used for constructing the Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles . The paint used for the vessel is 95,000 gallons (360,000 L), which is two times more than the quantity consumed for Golden Gate Bridge (re-painted annually). The electrical cables wiring the whole vessel are long 2484 ml (4000 km) which is enough to link NYC with LA .

After Ovation of the Seas ( Royal Caribbean ), Majestic is the world's second cruise vessel specifically designed for Chinese passengers. It even has an alternative name in Mandarin - "Sheng Shigrave; Gong Zhu Hao" (meaning "Grand Spirit").

On July 10, 2015, was held vessel's keel-laying ceremony at Fincantieri's Monfalcone shipyard . With the first keel block laid officially started the construction. The liner was delivered on March 29, 2017. The ceremony was attended by Micky Arison ( Carnival Corporation 's Chairman), Arnold Donald (Carnival Corporation's CEO), Stein Kruse ( Holland America 's CEO), Jan Swartz (Princess Cruises and Carnival Australia's President). Giampiero Massolo (Fincantieri's Chairman) and Giuseppe Bono (Fincantieri's CEO). It was mentioned at the delivery ceremony that between 1990-2017, Fincantieri has built 77 cruise ships (of which 54 between 2002-2017), plus other 30 vessels under construction .

On November 3, 2016, the sistership's construction officially started with the steel cutting ceremony at Fincantieri's shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia . Fun fact is that in the period 1990-2016, Fincantieri constructed a total of 101 cruise ships.

On May 25, 2017, started the 37-day long relocation cruise from Europe to China (Civitavecchia-Rome to Shanghai via Suez Canal ). The voyage featured the cultural exchange program "Telling the Chinese Story along the Silk Road Sea Route". The repositioning cruise featured numerous themed onboard events and live performances, among which were the "Ansai Youth Waist Drum" and "Luochuan Youth Yangge Dance" teams, "China National Orchestra", "China National Opera And Dance Drama Theater". This absolutely unique onboard enrichment program was enjoyed all the way to China by the ship's lucky 6500+ passengers. Along the reposition itinerary, the ship called at a total of 22 "Silk Road" ports in Greece, Egypt, UAE, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, China (Xiamen was the ever first Chinese cruise port visited), Taiwan, Japan, South Korea. For the list of ports of call see in the "inaugural cruise itineraries" tables that follow.

On July 9, 2017, in Shanghai China was held the vessel's christening ceremony lead by the Chinese godparents Yao Ming (Houston Rockets' basketball legend) and his wife - Ye Li. Yao Ming is an 8-time NBA All-Star with Houston Rockets and inductee into NBA Hall of Fame. The godfather-godmother couple established "The Yao Foundation" following the 2008 earthquake that devastated China's Sichuan Province. The organization built a total of 23 primary schools in the region and also extends sports education to the region's youth through basketball-related projects. The ship's naming ceremony was attended by Wang Hong (Baoshan District's party secretary and Shanghai International Cruise Business Institute's general director), Arnold Donald; (Carnival Corporation's President and CEO), Jan Swartz (Princess Cruises' and Carnival Australia's group president), as well as Chinese travel agent partners and Chinese media representatives.

Princess Cruises Royal-Class ship design

Majestic Princess' Asian itinerary program (from homeport Shanghai) started on July 11, 2017. In 2018, the liner had scheduled two 14-day "Grand Asia" itineraries between Shanghai and Singapore . Both cruises visit ports in Korea, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam, with longer port times. The first "Grand Asia" cruise departs from Shanghai on February 25, 2018. The 2nd "Grand Asia" voyage leaves from Singapore on March 11, 2018.

Managed by Costa Asia, Majestic Princess passengers of Chinese origin were able to use their Alipay accounts to pay for onboard services and products. The 2017-signed partnership between Carnival Corporation and Ant Financial Services Group (subsidiary of Alibaba/China's biggest online trading company) enables Chinese cruise passengers on all Carnival Corp ships in Asia to use the Alipay mobile payment platform for onboard services and products (shopping, tours/excursions, food, drinks, etc). These expenditures are added to the passenger's cabin folio, then cleared via his/her Alipay account on a nightly basis.

"Love Boat" cruise 2022

On November 4, 2021, was announced "The Love Boat"-themed cruise on Majestic Princess scheduled for 2022-Q1.

The 7-day roundtrip from Los Angeles/San Pedro (February 26 thru March 5) visits three Mexican Riviera ports - Puerto Vallarta , Mazatlan , Cabo San Lucas .

Hosted by Jill Whelan (1968-born American actress who played "Vicki Stubing"/Captain's daughter in the TV series), the voyage will also feature as special guests The Love Boat actors Cynthia Lauren Tewes ("Julie McCoy"/Cruise Director), Bernie Kopell ("Adam Bricker"/aka "Doc"/Cruise Ship Doctor), Fred Grandy ("Burl Smith"/aka "Gopher"/Reception Purser) and Ted Lange ("Isaac Washington"/aka "Isaac"/Bartender).

The voyage will be a tribute to Gavin MacLeod (1931-2021) who played "Captain Merrill Stubing" (in the series) and served as Princess Cruises' brand ambassador in the period 1986-2021.

Onboard special activities include:

  • Sailaway party, 1970s-themed Disco Party (on pool deck), vows renewal /group ceremony (on top-deck)
  • Q&A sessions, cast photos, trivia games, themed merchandise
  • Birthday celebration honoring Gavin MacLeod
  • "Love Boat" themed dining menus and cocktails
  • "The Love Boat" episodes (at the outdoor theater and on all cabin TVs)

In October 2015 was officially announced, that the Princess Majestic ship would be deployed in Asia. After its launch in 2017, the ship operated a series of Spring 2017 Mediterranean cruises, then was repositioned from Europe to Asia via Suez Canal . The cruise ship was based in China for year-round roundtrip itineraries from homeport Shanghai, China . During summer the ship operates on roundtrip Australia-New Zealand and South Pacific Islands cruises from homeport Sydney AU , with Australia-Asia relocation cruises.

Majestic Princess cruise itineraries include ports in Japan (Yokohama, Nagasaki, Kobe) and South Korea (Busan) and Hong Kong (China). In January 2017, the vessel successfully completed sea trials off Italy's coast.

The "Inaugural Cruise" (maiden voyage) started on April 4, 2017. The 5-night Adriatic Sea itinerary left out of Venice to Civitavecchia-Rome. The ship operates on 7-, 14-, 21- and 28-night long Mediterranean Sea itineraries departing from the ports of Barcelona Spain, Piraeus (Athens) Greece and Rome Italy, before the relocation to Asia through Suez Canal.

  • April 4 ("Inaugural Cruise") - the 5-day Maiden Voyage is a round-trip out of Rome (port Civitavecchia) visiting Kotor (Montenegro) and Corfu (Greece).

  • The other two largest Princess ships Royal and Regal were also deployed in Europe in 2017, respectively, in the Mediterranean Sea (Royal) and Baltic Sea (Regal).

Fun fact is that this Princess ship has a namesake - the 2013-launched "Majestic MAERSK". The vessel is among the world's largest container ships (capacity 18,340 containers) and operated by MAERSK Line.

The following tables show the ship's Inaugural cruise itineraries with call ports, port times and USD prices per person (based on double occupancy inside cabin).

Majestic Princess Review (2024): A Royal-Class Cruise Experience

My blog posts likely contain affiliate links, including for the Amazon Associates program. If you click, book, or buy from one of these links, I may earn a commission. Read more in my Privacy Policy .

From a distance, the ship blends into the landscape, almost like a large apartment block in any of the coast communities where she made port. But as we approached each time – first to embark, then to return from shore excursions in places like Cabo San Lucas , Mazatlán, and Puerto Vallarta – the Majestic Princess showed her true size. Rising over 200 feet from the water level, this Princess Cruises ship is a city and community unto itself… and we called her home for a week on an escape from wintery Cleveland weather.

The Majestic Princess is one of six ships of her type, the latest ship style operated by Princess Cruises. These behemoth boats sail popular itineraries around the world, from Asia to Australia to America, and are wildly popular with cruisers for the many amenities you can enjoy onboard.

Majestic Princess Review Hero

If you’ve read this site before, you know that I’ve been generally skeptical about mega-ship cruising and how much you can really experience a destination – versus spending all your time on the boat. However cruising is a huge part of the travel industry, and it’s a unique time to consider booking a cruise.

For that reason, I jumped at the opportunity to set sail with Princess Cruises in February 2022, and to share my own Majestic Princess review following the trip. As this ship is headed on to Alaska next, it seemed like the perfect time to share a review that would get you excited about the ship and inspire you to finally book that cruise.

So whether you’ve booked your cruise already or are comparing ships and itineraries, read on; my Majestic Princess review covers it all, from the cabins to the plethora of dining options to other special touches that help the Majestic Princess live up to her royal class status.

Before launching into my review, I want to give a few shout-outs to crew who made our trip spectacular: Jefferson, our room steward; Jorge, assistant restaurant manager at Concerto and one the best servers on the ship; and Neville, the maître d’ who helped us have so many incredible dining experiences. I hope you’re lucky enough to meet and be served by them aboard the Majestic Princess !

While aboard the Majestic Princess , I traveled to destinations that are the traditional lands of the Pericú and Totorames peoples. With respect, I make a formal land acknowledgment, extending my appreciation and respect to the past and present people of these lands. To learn more about the peoples who call these lands home, I invite you to explore  Native Land .

Overall Ship Details

Majestic Princess Review

Before jumping into the specifics of my cruise aboard the Majestic Princess , I thought it might help to start with an introduction to the ship herself. This is especially helpful if you’re planning an Alaska cruise in Summer 2024 or 2025 and might end up aboard this ship!

The Majestic Princess is a “Royal-class cruise ship” that began sailing in April 2017. She was originally built to focus on the Asian market; you’ll see almost all signs aboard the ship in both English and Chinese, and some of maps are actually incorrect, showing restaurants and shops aboard the ship from its time cruising around in Asia rather than North America.

She can hold 3,560 passengers at full capacity in her 1,780 and has 18 decks. 80% of cabins have balconies, meaning almost everyone gets to enjoy a view and fresh air whenever cruising aboard the ship. In addition, there’s a Piazza and atrium, standard for this class of ship, as well as both an indoor and outdoor pool area. There are three dining rooms, three specialty dining options, and a number of casual spots too.

All this to say, the Majestic Princess is a big ship, fully equipped to entertain you and carry you wherever you might want to go. We cruise Princess Cruises Mexican Riviera itinerary in February 2022; I’ve researched and shared her other upcoming destinations at the end of this post in case you decide you specifically want to take a cruise on this ship.

Cabin Options & Peek into Our Room

Majestic Princess Review - Cabin

During our stay aboard the Majestic Princess , we spent each evening resting and relaxing in the ‘Mini-Suite’ cabin class. These cabins usually range from 299-329 square feet with a 36-105 square-foot balcony. My best estimate is that our room was quite standard for square footage, but we had one of the smaller balcony sizes.

The room itself was large and comfortable though – perfect for a good night’s sleep, working at the desk, relaxing on the couch (we had a few movie nights during our week calling cabin B319 home!), and enjoying morning coffee on the balcony.

As I mentioned, perhaps the best part of our cabin was our steward, Jefferson, who did an amazing job keeping my chaos in the room under control, replacing and organizing items in the room (he began straightening all my shoes left around the room into a single place near one wall!), and greeting us by name with a smile each time we passed him.

While I obviously can’t speak to comparing different cabins, I personally can’t imagine booking an interior cabin – I need that fresh air and view. If you have the budget to upgrade from the Balcony class, you’ll get a lot more room to enjoy if you opt for the Mini-Suite instead – plus welcome champagne and a starter stocked mini-bar.

Other Delightful Details

Majestic Princess Review - Cabin Extras

In addition to the normal cabin experience, we were treated to a few extras on our cruise; this was undoubtedly due to my being a journalist on board, but I want to mention them anyway, as it shows how Princess goes above and beyond for special occasions (like birthdays, anniversaries, and honeymoons). In particular, we had fresh flowers in our room, received a few complimentary bottles of champagne and Prosecco, noshed on canapés delivered each afternoon, and enjoyed room service (which we used only to order coffee each morning).

Be sure to mention when booking if you’re celebrating a special occasion or have a reason for your cruise; you too may discover some of these extra delightful details in your cabin during your cruise.

Standard Dining Aboard the Majestic Princess

Majestic Princess Review - Concerto Dining Room

Most people eat all of their dinners in the main dining halls, of which there are three on the Majestic Princess : Allegro, Concerto, and Symphony. These meals are included in the standard rate for your cruise, and cost nothing extra (which is why most people only eat there).

While we tried to sample each of the dining rooms on the Majestic Princess , I was more focused on ensuring we ate at the specialty dining options since those are truly unique. However, I wanted to cover these “basic” options so you’d have a sense of what to expect if you don’t want to spend any extra on your cruise.

Allegro is one of the main dining rooms aboard Majestic Princess ; it’s a beautiful large room with different dining areas. While we didn’t have a standard meal in this space, we did enjoy the Chef’s Table in this dining room (more on that below). Broadly speaking, you’ll have a standard three-course meal if you choose dinner in Allegro, attended by a server and other members of the restaurant team.

Another of the three main dining rooms, Mr. V and I accidentally ate dinner at Concerto on a formal night – however, we weren’t aware of this as we didn’t read the Princess Patter correctly. 🤦🏻‍♀️ In any event, the dining room is lovely and large, but still feels like a nice dining experience. Our meal was enjoyable, though a bit simpler than the specialty dining experiences and special dinners we had on other nights of the ship.

During our Mexican Riviera cruise in February 2022, the Symphony dining room actually wasn’t open; I think this may have been the result of the low occupancy on our ship and the (wise) decision not to have all that extra staff expense when there aren’t that many guests.

As such, I can’t comment on this dining room exactly, but I’ve heard that it is a very similar setup and style to Concerto dining room.

World Fresh Marketplace

Majestic Princess Review - World Fresh Marketplace

Everyone wants to know about the buffet, right? It’s a staple of the cruising experience: a variety of food available any time you want it! Aboard the Majestic Princess , the “buffet” dining option is called World Fresh Marketplace and usually has an array of options depending on the time of day you’re trying to eat.

Mr. V and I ate breakfast here daily, and occasionally popped in to check out lunch options. To be honest, lunch was generally underwhelming, so I’d opt for the other casual dining options (below) for lunch on days at sea and when your excursions don’t include lunch (and you’re not out in port having lunch there!).

Other Casual Dining Options

Majestic Princess Review - Alfredos

In addition to the standard dining rooms which are included in your fare, there are also some casual

  • Alfredos – I personally think this Neapolitan-style pizzeria should be considered specialty dining; the pizzas were awesome and the service was substantially better than the other casual options (and even the main dining rooms!). I consider Alfredo’s a must-eat spot on the Majestic Princess .
  • Chopsticks – We enjoyed lunch from Chopsticks, a simple noodle bar on the Pool deck, one day at sea. They offer two standard noodle bowls every day, plus a different daily special. We had the braised pork noodle bowl and it was delicious plus a perfect portion size for lunch.
  • Burger & Lobster Grill – The name of this casual spot says it all: they primarily sell burgers but also have a lobster roll and hot dogs for other options. This is another great easy lunch option, though certainly not fancy.
  • Swirls at Sea – Everyone loves the all-day soft-serve ice cream bar!
  • International Cafe – If you want fancier coffee than what’s available by room service or the breakfast/lunch buffet, the International Cafe has good made-to-order coffee and an awesome selection of pastries.

There are also a number of bars all over the ship that you can order from; most people opt for the “Premier Drink Package” which includes all drinks (coffee, soda, cocktails, wine, beer, etc.) for $59.99 per person per day. We didn’t purchase this package, instead choosing to order wine each evening with dinner and foregoing the other drinks on the boat. (Trust me, I ate more than enough calories – I didn’t need to drink them too! 😂)

Specialty Dining Aboard the Majestic Princess

My favorite part of cruising – and perhaps the most under-utilized – is specialty dining. I know that part of the appeal of cruises is the all-inclusive nature with a good price, but I don’t know of any other place in the world where you can enjoy a fantastic three- or four-course meal for just $29 at the caliber you’ll find aboard a Princess cruise. There are three specialty dining options aboard the Majestic Princess : Bistro Sur La Mer, Crown Grill, and – my favorite – Harmony.

Similar to my photos/descriptions of the dining rooms and casual dining options above, I keep my focus on the food at each of the specialty dining options aboard the Majestic Princess . I’ll describe each place but trust me that the food is what really matters!

Bistro Sur La Mer

Bistro Sur La Mer is the French option aboard the Majestic Princess . As you might expect from specialty dining plus French bistro style, the restaurant has elements of Paris: cafe tables, chic but décontracté (casual) elements, and lots of “steel” elements to evoke the Eiffel Tower.

Majestic Princess Review - Bistro Sur La Mer

The menu is appropriately French or French-inspired; Mr. V and I enjoyed escargot, baked lobster bisque, and jumbo scallops; I also went a bit English and ordered fish and chips plus a merengue with custard.

Majestic Princess Review - Bistro Sur La Mer

Our server, Kadek from Indonesia, was a delight – he regaled us with stories from his four years working aboard the Majestic Princess and how nice it was to have guests – but not a full ship (as apparently, it can get very busy when the ship used to run cruises in Asia catered toward Chinese guests).

I had originally not intended on eating at Bistro Sur La Mer since, ya know, I know what French food is and all, but I’m glad we added this to our schedule of dinner plans (which was a serious jigsaw puzzle!). The service alone made the evening enjoyable, and the food and wine added an extra layer that makes specialty dining “special.”

Crown Grill

Majestic Princess Review - Crown Grill

Crown Grill is the steakhouse option that caters to those who want a really indulgent meal with ingredients that remind you of home (i.e. America). The menu features starters, soup and salad (go for the Black and Blue Onion Soup), then a choice of mains from either Seafood, Chops, and Steaks, followed by dessert. I enjoyed a flavorful bowl of mussels and smoked sausage, while Mr. V tried the Beef Chop – something we had heard other guests rave about.

Be prepared though – this is not a light dinner, despite your best efforts. If you’re craving a salad, save Crown Grill for another night (though the spinach, goat cheese, and beet salad was fantastic!). If you’re celebrating a special occasion, this is a great place to do it.

If I had to make a bold assertion about dining on the Majestic Princess , I would say that Harmony is the best restaurant on the whole boat. This Asian-inspired restaurant is awesome and set the bar very high for Mr. V and I at our first night’s dinner.

Majestic Princess Review - Harmony Restaurant

As with all standard and specialty dining options, you’ll enjoy a multi-course meal at Harmony; one highlight was the salt and pepper chicken – it reminded me of the delicious chicken we had at 8 Fat Fat 8 in Honolulu. We also tried the crab rangoon, hot and sour soup (delish! could have eaten just this for the meal), Sichuan chicken, General Tso chicken, and a fantastic dessert of sake-soaked melon gelato.

Majestic Princess Review - Harmony Restaurant

Like Alfredo’s among the casual dining options, Harmony is another spot you must eat aboard the Majestic Princess . As dining experiences go, it’s worth far more than the $29 charge for the multi-course meal, and I wish we’d had an extra dinner time available to go back!

Chef’s Table

Majestic Princess Review - Chef's Table

I had the pleasure to experience my first Chef’s Table dinner aboard the Coral Princess back in 2017; when I heard that they were still offering this (though modified to skip the galley tour, due to health precautions), I know I had to introduce Mr. V to this incredible add-on dining experience too.

For $90 per person (including wine), you’ll join a small group of guests at a private table for the “Chef’s Lumiere” in the Allegro dining room. There, you’ll be treated to a ~10-course meal, including several desserts, and multiple main courses. It’s a wonderful way to try the best food that the galley has to offer, and is personally guided by the head chef and maître d’. Chef Nilo and our “Director of Restaurant Operations” (formerly the maître d’ title) Neville made this a truly incredible experience – on top of the great food.

To request a seat at the Chef’s Table, you need to express your interest to guest services or introduce yourself to the maître d’/”DROp” when you see them in the various restaurants or dining rooms early during your cruise (they make the rounds each evening).

Winemaker’s Dinner

Majestic Princess Review - Winemakers Dinner

On this cruise, I also learned about another specialty dining experience offered on Princess Cruises: the winemaker’s dinners. Princess works in partnership with various winemakers and vineyards to create a menu of wines and food pairings; tickets are $40 per person including wine.

Majestic Princess Review - Winemakers Dinner

Our winemaker’s dinner was the final night of our cruise, and was a four-course meal paired with wines from Silverado Vineyards in Napa. We enjoyed four courses paired with two Silverado wines (a red and a white), followed by a dessert wine; this dinner was served in the Concerto ‘wine cellar,’ another semi-private dining area within the main dining hall.

To request a seat at a winemaker’s dinner aboard Majestic Princess , you need to express your interest to guest services or introduce yourself to the maître d’/”DROp” when you see them in the various restaurants or dining rooms early during your cruise (they make the rounds each evening).

Other Shipboard Amenities

Of course, there’s more to shipboard life than just meals and hanging out in your cabin. In addition to all kinds of short events, trivia nights, gameshows, live music in various parts of the ship, and a casino, there are a few other amenities worth mentioning.

Entertainment

Majestic Princess Review - Naathan Pham

I’ll admit that I don’t remember seeing a single show aboard my first big ship cruise; when Mr. V and I cruised on the Norwegian Encore in 2019, we rectified this with a few live shows. That meant I paid special attention to the Princess Patter on this cruise to see what shows and other entertainment were available. From live music performances (like a tribute to Whitney Houston) to Princess’ popular “Movies Under the Stars,” there was plenty to choose from.

We decided to attend a show the first night, put on by illusionist Naathan Phan. His combination of magic, mystery, impressions, and singing were delightful; we also attended his second show a few nights later.

All this to say, be sure to check the Princess Patter daily to see what entertainment options are available – Princess does a nice job of choosing an interesting variety to keep your evenings occupied.

Majestic Princess Review - Lotus Spa

Vacation is relaxing, but I love to level-up my unwind with a spa treatment early during each trip, if my itinerary allows it. Aboard the Majestic Princess , that need was met at the Lotus Spa where I enjoyed a luxurious salt scrub on our first day at sea. They offer a number of other treatments like massages, facials, and other esthetic treatments too.

There’s also the Enclave, a private pool and sauna section within the Lotus Spa; you can buy a day pass to escape the energy on the rest of the boat and relax here for a few hours if you need even more relax and unwind downtime on your cruise.

Majestic Princess Review - SeaWalk

Cruise ships nowadays – they all have something funky that goes out over the water and gives you a thrill, don’t they? On the Majestic Princess , that’s the SeaWalk, a pair of glass-bottomed walkways that swing out from the sides of the ship and give you a dizzying view of the decks and water swirling down below.

While this might not be as fancy as some of the adrenaline-inducing experiences you’ll find on other ships, the nice thing is that it’s literally always open and available to all guests; no tickets or timed entry is required.

Hollywood Conservatory & Pool

Majestic Princess Review - Hollywood Conservatory

While our Princess Cruise was basically kid-free (I don’t think I saw or heard a single kid!), you might end up aboard the Majestic Princess with families depending on your destination and cruise season. As such, it’s nice to have an adults-only place to escape the delightful excess of energy younger humans bring to the cruising experience.

That’s where the Hollywood Conservatory, pool, and bar come in. Located on the 17th Deck forward, this is a haven of general peace and quiet – until later each night when a DJ spins tunes to inspire the nightlife to come alive. We worked here a few times and greatly enjoyed the atmosphere, which has a very different vibe than the outdoor Pool Deck (16th Deck).

Medallions, Medallions, Everywhere!

Majestic Princess Review - Medallion

Hands down the coolest innovation in cruising, Princess Cruises’ “Medallion” system was my favorite discovery of the cruise. When you board, you receive a “medallion” which is tied to your room (the door unlocks itself as you walk up) and serves as both your ID and payment onboard the ship – and at some offshore vendors through “Medallion Pay” agreements with local businesses.

Additionally, your Medallion is used when heading on/off the ship, lets your steward and other team members know when you’re in your cabin (for champagne deliveries) or not (for room cleaning), and allows Princess to easily do contact tracing in the event your cruise experiences a health concern.

Additionally, the MedallionApp is a handy tool for getting acquainted with the ship, browsing shore excursions, booking dinner reservations, and more – I feel like I barely scratched the surface of what the app includes, but I used it daily on board.

Finally, there’s MedallionNet, the wifi service offered by Princess Cruises. Gone are the days of “minutes of access” – now you can purchase a package for the number of devices you want to connect, and leave them connected for the entire cruise whenever you’re on board. Best of all, the wifi connection is fast enough to handle things like uploading Instagram stories (including videos), sharing Reels, and even working on this photo-heavy blog post!

Upcoming Majestic Princess Itineraries

Majestic Princess Review

Now that you know all about the Majestic Princess and what makes her special, you might be keen to book a cruise on this ship. Within the Princess fleet, she’s a Pacific boat, so all of her itineraries for the next few years focus on destinations around the Pacific rim. Here’s the next few years and the various destinations the Majestic Princess will visit; if these change I’ll try to update it ASAP – or if you notice an error, please let me know in the comments below this post.

Oceania (Winter 2024)

After ending 2023 by sailing in Alaska and the Pacific Coast, the Majestic Princess made a trans-Pacific repositioning. She’ll spend her “winters” there – don’t forget that means it’s summer in these Southern Hemisphere destinations! After repositioning, she’ll spend the rest of the season doing runs around New Zealand, Australia, Tasmania, and Fiji.

Alaska (Summer)

majestic princess cruises november 2023

Per usual for this ship, the Majestic Princess will cross the Pacific to sail her summer away in Alaska. She’ll spend the entire season running 7-night Inside Passage cruises from Seattle with port stops in spots like Ketchikan , Juneau , and Skagway .

Mexican Riviera (Autumn 2024)

The next itinerary currently scheduled for the Majestic Princess is down in the Mexican Riviera (the Pacific coast of Mexico) for the autumn (and likely winter) of 2024-2025. This is the same itinerary I enjoyed aboard the ship, and a great way to experience the ship and some new destinations.

South America/Atlantic Repositioning (Winter 2025)

From Mexico, the Majestic Princess heads out on a series of really cool itineraries: down the Pacific coast of South America, around Cape Horn, up the Brazilian coast, and into the Caribbean before crossing the Atlantic to begin sailing the Mediterranean. I just want to do all of these routes!

Mediterranean (Spring 2025)

The rest of the current schedule has the Majestic Princess floating serenely in the Med; itineraries include a grand tour of Spain, a sampler of Italy and Greece, and one route that is currently scheduled to visit Israel (TBC based on current events, of course).

While I don’t expect we’ll see the Majestic Princess back in Alaskan waters in 2025, there are still some incredible destinations you can visit aboard this ship in the next 18 months. The casino is not 24/7 as you indicate. It is only open when at sea and even then not open 24 hours. I am on the Majestic now.

Ah, thanks for confirming, Ken. I’ll correct that now.

I do regular cruises with Princess cruises. have been on many .Diamond. Emerald . Sea Princess and Majestic.THE MAJESTIC IS OF POOR DESIGN . There is no Bar at the back of ship unless you go up to the top . Deck 5 or 6 has a bar but no view only l lifeboats . There is no excercisec you can walk around unless you go to the top deck. .Most Princess ships have access at the back on level 5 or 6 not Majestic the ship has cabins at the back ..Geoff Santer

Thanks for chiming in, Geoffrey!

Covid has not gone away. My sister in law has spent the last week quarantined in an inside cabin on majestic Princess and is still there!! She’s not seen much of Australia!

Indeed it has not – and that’s a real risk of these big cruise ships with so many people in one small-ish space! I’m sorry to hear your sister-in-law hasn’t had a good cruise though…

Wow super thorough review!! I’ll admit I’m suffering from paraplsis by analysis……Ive read so many reviews that the Majestic food experience was poor. Is this simply not catagorically true?

The specialty restaurants on Majestic were fantastic – I don’t have a ton of other big ship experience to compare, but my guess is the main dining rooms and buffets are pretty standard.

' src=

Valerie My wife & I are signed up for the 51 day South America tripWill you be aboard?

Unfortunately not – we’re expecting our first little one in February so are land-bound for a bit!

' src=

Hi Valerie,

Is Hollywood Pool Club open to the public?

Yes, but it is adults only.

We will be on the Majestic in August 2024 with a family group of 15. We are all pretty introverted so would like a quiet place to play cards, visit, knit/crochet. We have 2 kids- age 14 and 11 – well mannered and avid card players. Where would you suggest we try to “set up shop”?

Good question! It’s been a few years since I sailed on the Majestic (2022!) but I would take a look at these deck plans: https://www.princess.com/deckPlans.do?shipCode=MJ That’ll give you some ideas!

Customer reviews for Majestic Princess

The cruise was excellent with good food, entertainment, helpful staff and good accommodation. The stops for visits were good and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Sydney and the visit to Vietnam. My wife and I have to say a BIG THANKYOU to Iglu for organising the excellent hotels in Sydney and Hong Kong and the brilliant pick ups by the various taxi companies. They were on time and excellent vehicles. It certainly helped to enjoy the holiday. Many thanks, Martyn and Marjorie Hadley

majestic princess cruises november 2023

Had a fantastic holiday on board the majestic Princess, what an excellent ship but the drinks package is to expensive and the entertainment was a bit of a let down, some nights ok but others not so.

Cruised from Sydney to Hong Kong with one day ports of call in Brisbane,Darwin,Singapore,Vietnam and Taiwan.Scenic cruising on many of the sea days and ports of call interesting. Beautiful big clean ship.Officers onboard seen frequently.Plenty of activities if you wanted to partake. We always managed to find a shady area to sit on deck when we wanted, but not always in the main deck area where all the action was. We had a mini suite on Lido deck.Thankyou for recommending it Tina.Really convenient deck to be on.Stateroom was excellent, lots of storage space, comfortable bed and comfortable sofa to relax on. Found food to be good on the whole. We had anytime dining and got seated in a restaurant straight away most evenings. The self service restaurant was often crowded and difficult to find food and a seat. Drinks prices onboard in Australian dollars and expensive. We bought a premier drinks package in pounds before departure. It cost us £1896 for the 2 of us for 19 nights.Very expensive, not sure if we got our money's worth. The theatre is not big enough for the number of passengers. If you want to see a popular show you have to arrive very early. Crew very hard working, friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful holiday. The hotels in Sydney(Rydges World Square) and Hong Kong (Madera)were both very good.Transfers excellent.

We stayed at the Ultimo Hotel in Sydney situated in China Town. The hotel in my opinion is not worthy of 4 star rating and not suitable for the older generation, it is more like a backpacker hostel. Coloured our view of Iglu cruises organisation. The Ship however was good we had a balcony cabin on the 15th deck which was ideally situated. We have cruise with Princess since 1997 and we feel that standards are not the same. The crew as a whole were excellent, as we expected. However the standard of food has deteriorated and this was echoed by all we spoke to. Also on board expenses have rocketed especially the excursions. For this reason we booked through Iglu cruises and were not disappointed. We stayed at the Waldorf Stadium Appartments Hotel in Auckland and were really pleased with the accommodation and location. Apart from the hotel at Sydney we had a memorable trip.

Barely a wobble so far. Not sure of the current speed, but it feels like we are making-up a bit of lost time.

I will make sure to send a toast to the Shady Oaks on the way past. Are you still home Leas, or have you moved in already?

Back in Sydney again. I could have used another day.

It was a nice sail in this morning

Quick & easy self disembark.  Already back at work.  Ready to plan the next cruise to Eden…

Not moved yet Geoff, house on the market this week. Put deposit on apartment

We are just leaving Central on the train home after a relaxed breakfast and final pack. We had a great few days, have booked another on Diamond and are looking at finding another shortie. I think that could be our last Majestic cruise though.

Our first Princess suite in a long time, so plenty of surprises in the Concierge Lounge. Surprise is the operative word, so we didn't get the max benefit. No trip review coming up, but I will put together a bit of info on the suite life.

Better if you had money on it,

I said it will win and it still had 60m to go.

Haha

I never bet, but the thrill is picking a winner.

And for those wondering, it was obvious soon after boarding, that Majestic arrived in a much healthier state than last season.

Masks were worn by a small % of passengers, and I applaud those taking extra precaution if they need to. Very little coughing/wheezing/sneezing/sniffling was apparent. Much like olden times.

Random question.  Can the sensor lights in the cabin be turned off?

Where  can I leave a review of the Princess Shore tour that I did in Eden? -  Light to Light Walk.

I have filled out the post survey review that was emailed out &  the tour company is not listed on the Princess blurb so no use putting a review on Trip Advisor.

I would like to leave a review for future Princess cruisers who are considering booking this tour.

51 minutes ago, aussielozzie18 said: Random question.  Can the sensor lights in the cabin be turned off?

We place one of those cushions in front of them and that usually does the trick. That is till Barb opens the bathroom door and turns the light on.

I thought it would be possible to leave a review at  Princess Cruises - Excursion - Light to Light Walk

but there is no link there. maybe Princess chat can help?

I am not getting email from Princess it seems, as no review link for us. I did do an unsubscribe from P&O when their PVPs started emailing direct, apparently oblivious to us booking through an agent. I am thinking the unsubscribe might have also work on the shared brands working out of North Sydney.

Ok.  Noted.  The sensor  light In wardrobe “room” next to the bathroom is the one that keeps me awake - I am used to going to the bathroom in the middle of the night in darkness, so I can fall straight back to sleep but that sensor light is so bright - I end up being wide wake.  I guess that one is needed for access to the life jackets?

We just got WiFi for 24 hours, so just reading this now.

Ask your cabin steward to organise for the sensor to be taped over.  It won't come on during the night, but when you turn the switch on it'll come on for 30 seconds or so before going off.

Read my reply re taping it over

Another random question - dancing fountains?  Did we have them on our short cruise and if so. - what time would they have been on?  Watched a couple of after dinner movies and never noticed anything special happening in the main pool…

When it comes to enjoying a drink, Majestic Princess offers cruisers a variety of bars and lounges. Not sure where to start? Our Majestic Princess Bar Guide includes all of the details and bar menus to help you make the difficult decisions.

CRUISE DEALS: BOOK NOW AND SAVE ON YOUR NEXT PRINCESS CRUISES VOYAGE !

International Café – Deck 5

The International Café is your go-to spot 24 hours a day. This venue serves up breakfast sandwiches and pastries in the morning as well as sandwiches, cookies, and other snacks throughout the day.

The International Café is also the coffee bar on Princess Cruises. This is the spot to get your favorite lattes, cappuccinos, and other espresso based drinks.

Majestic Princess Bar Guide With Menus

A visit to the International Café for some lattes or espressos was part of our daily routine. Luckily, these coffees are covered in the Princess Cruises beverage packages .

International Café Menu

Bar Piazza – Deck 5

Bar Piazza is located in the Piazza right around the corner from the International Café. This venue serves up all your favorite drink selections from the standard bar menu. The categories include frozen drinks, tropical drinks, margaritas, martinis, and other classic cocktails, along with beers, wines, and even mocktails.

We enjoyed sipping some espresso martinis here while people watching or listening to the live music in the Atrium. This bar also has a good-sized seating area, so it was an easy choice for lounging between ports of call.

Majestic Princess Standard Bar Menu

Vines Wine Bar- Deck 5

Vines is the signature wine bar on Majestic Princess. This menu offers several options for wine by the glass and bottles of wine. While we are not wine connoisseurs, the menu seemed to offer a pretty extensive list.

Majestic Princess Bar Guide With Menus

With a large seating area also located off the Atrium, you could easily sip a glass of wine here while still enjoying some live music.

Vines Wine Bar Menu

Good Spirits at Sea – Deck 6

Good Spirits at Sea is one of the venues on Majestic Princess that offers a signature bar menu. Based on the TV series Good Spirits , the menu features original cocktails with local ingredients.

The small menu includes a selection of craft cocktails like the Key Lime Pie Martini, Barbados Swizzler, and the Bangkok Mule. These drinks are still included in the Princess beverage packages as well.

Good Spirits at Sea Menu

Double Down Bar – Deck 6

The Double Down Bar is the casino bar on Majestic Princess. The casino itself actually does not feature a bar. However, the so-called Casino VIP area, from the ship’s former days in China, houses this bar.

The area is really just a large space with plenty of seating and large television screens to watch your favorite game. In fact, it would make a great sports bar or pub perhaps with some live music.

Get EXCLUSIVE Deals on Princess Cruises to Alaska!

Vista Lounge – Deck 7

The Vista Lounge offers plenty of entertainment throughout the cruise. From live music, to late night comedy, to various other trivia and activities during the day, this is a popular spot on Majestic Princess.

There are plenty of servers in this venue waiting to take your drink order. Again, there are full bar offerings or you can pick an option off the standard drink menu like the popular 24K Gold Margarita.

Crown Grill Bar – Deck 7

The Crown Grill Bar is located next to the ship’s upscale steakhouse. This venue is the perfect spot for a pre-dinner or post-dinner cocktail, alongside some live piano music.

Martinis from the Crown Grill Bar on Majestic Princess

This venue was perhaps our favorite bar given its extensive cocktail menu which included DB’s go-to Sidecar. You can also find other classic drinks on the menu like a Manhattan, Cosmo, and the newly popular espresso martini.

Crown Grill Bar Menu

Princess Live Café – Deck 7

Princess Live is a unique entertainment space on Princess Cruises. This venue resembles a production studio and hosts daily events like trivia and game shows.

Our routine each evening consisted of attending the daily game show here before heading to the theater for the nightly entertainment. Some of our favorites included Yes or No, the Liar’s Club, and Hollywood Hiccups.

Right outside the venue is the Princess Live Café serving up bar drinks for those wanting to grab a drink before the show. We recommend doing so, as bar service within the venue is limited once the show starts. It is also a great alternative to the International Café in the morning or afternoon as a back-up coffee shop.

Ocean Terrace Bar – Deck 7

In the same central location as the Good Spirits Bar, just one deck above, this is another prime spot to grab a drink while overlooking the action in the Atrium.

You can order up just about anything you like including drinks off the OceanNow menu. Let’s just say that the Milky Way martinis on this menu are quite tasty!

Majestic Princess Bar Guide With Menus

Fountain Pool Bar – Deck 16

The Fountain Pool Bar is just one of the outdoor bars on Majestic Princess. This large bar located right near the pool is a great spot to grab some drinks during scenic cruising or if it is warm enough to lounge poolside.

Given its location, cruisers can also sit here to watch the big screen positioned on the opposite side of the pool deck.

Majestic Princess bars

With classic cruise drinks like the pina colada, mai tai, and various other tropical concoctions, this is where you want to be, especially if your Alaskan cruise is graced with nice weather!

During scenic cruising through Glacier Bay, there is even a Bloody Mary bar set-up on the sun deck overlooking the pool.

Pool Bar Menu

SeaView Bar – Deck 16

Another outdoor, but somewhat more sheltered, bar is the Sea View Bar. The Sea View Bar is located off the pool deck on the portside of the ship.

The Sea View Bar offers a glass floor and windows for scenic gazing in all directions. Whether it’s at your port of call or while sailing the open ocean, be sure to pull up a seat to enjoy a drink and the views.

Wake View Bar – Deck 16

The Wake View Bar is another fantastic outdoor spot to enjoy some cocktails while admiring the view.

Aptly named, the Wake View Bar is located all the way aft on Deck 16. This bar offers a large seating area to admire the wake views and surrounding vistas. You can also grab some food from the World Fresh Marketplace and head outside here.

majestic princess cruises november 2023

Additionally, Princess Cruises has introduced a Juice Bar, located here on Majestic Princess. For those with the Princess Plus or Princess Premier package , these new fruit and vegetable offerings are included in the package. Or, other cruisers can purchase them a la carte. The Juice Bar was open select hours in the morning and afternoons on sea days.

Juice Bar Menu

Hollywood Pool Club Bar – Deck 17

Last but not least, there’s the Hollywood Pool Club Bar. While we did have fantastic weather on our Alaskan cruise , that might not always be the case. If the weather does not provide much opportunity to be outdoors, you can still enjoy some pool time and drinks at this indoor location.

The Hollywood Pool Club is the solarium on Majestic Princess. This is the perfect space to spend a sea day with an indoor pool, plenty of lounge furniture, and a bar. The adjacent Conservatory is also a great forward-facing indoor observation area.

Vines…quiet, very nice place to enjoy a glass of fine wine and just relax. Right near a lot of the happenings on the main part of the Majestic. Great service and our choice….when we are not enjoying the other bar venues on the Majestic.
