Payday in Dubai

Here's the prize money payout for each golfer at the 2021 DP World Tour Championship

1290018310

Ross Kinnaird

Collin Morikawa had a good grip on the Race to Dubai title coming into the DP World Tour Championship, regardless of his play over the weekend in Dubai. And yet, the 24-year-old American didn’t want to hear anything of it, instead focusing on winning the tournament proper, which as he said would take care of everything else.

Come Sunday at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, Morikawa did just that, posting a bogey-free six-under 66—propelled by five birdies on the back nine—to win the title in the European Tour season finale by three shots. In the process, he made history by becoming the first U.S. player ever to win the tour’s season-long points title.

To the winner goes the spoils. The RtD title comes with a $1 million bonus for Morikawa. But the tournament win was even more lucrative. The overall purse for this Rolex Series event in Dubai was $9 million with the winner claiming a $3 million prize money payout.

Below are the prize money payouts (in Euros) for each player in the field as they conclude the 2020-21 European Tour season.

Rory McIlroy tops all-time European Tour money list after Carnoustie performance

Joint-second place in The Open takes McIlroy past Lee Westwood

Tuesday 24 July 2018 12:04, UK

Rory McIlroy during the final round of The Open at Carnoustie

Rory McIlroy may have missed out on his fifth major victory in The 147th Open on Sunday, but his performance at Carnoustie did help him achieve one notable career landmark.

The 29-year-old Northern Irishman finished in a four-way tie for second place behind Francesco Molinari, but the €597,050 prize money he picked up took him to the top of the all-time career money list on the European Tour.

McIlroy has now earned a total of €35,110,780 on the European Tour, moving ahead of Lee Westwood, who has amassed €34,777,910.

Westwood could only finish in a tie for 61st at The Open, which secured him a prize of €21,772.

during the third round of the 147th Open Championship at Carnoustie Golf Club on July 21, 2018 in Carnoustie, Scotland.

McIlroy, who is now seventh in the world rankings, has won 13 times on the European Tour and triumphed in the Race to Dubai in 2012, 2014 and 2015.

Englishman Westwood, 45, has won 23 times on the European Tour during his career and has 137 top-10 finishes to his name - McIlroy has 82. He first topped the career money list in 2011 when he reached the €25m mark to overtake Ernie Els.

Lee Westwood during the third round of the 147th Open Championship at Carnoustie Golf Club on July 21, 2018 in Carnoustie, Scotland.

McIlroy first joined the European Tour as a professional in 2007 when he earned €277,255 from eight starts, and he increased his prize money to €696,335 the following year when he featured in 28 events.

He claimed his first professional victory when he won the Dubai Desert Classic in 2009 which helped lift his prize money to €3,610,020.

McIlroy failed to win in Europe in 2010, although he did triumph in the Quail Hollow Championship on the PGA Tour, but he claimed his first major victory the following year when he won the US Open at Congressional which took him past the €4m mark on the European Tour as he amassed €4,002,168.

during the final round of the 111th U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club on June 19, 2011 in Bethesda, Maryland.

Victories in the PGA Championship and DP World Tour Championship in 2012 elevated his earnings to €5,519,118, but a loss of form meant he drew a blank in 2013 as he made just €862,177.

He quickly put 2013 behind him, though, as he reached new heights in 2014 with two major successes - in The Open at Royal Liverpool and PGA Championship at Valhalla - as well as valuable wins in the BMW PGA Championship and WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

during day four of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth on May 25, 2014 in Virginia Water, England.

That gave McIlroy his best year to date with a massive €5,883,304 in prize money on the European Tour as he won the Race to Dubai for a second time, and victories in the Omega Desert Classic, WGC-Cadillac Match Play and DP World Tour Championship saw him retain that title in 2015 with €4,540,007 earned.

McIlroy has only won the 2016 Irish Open on the European Tour since then, but has still managed to pick up €2,971,984 and €1,832,086 in the last two years and he has already trousered €2,494,458 this season following his efforts at Carnoustie.

Tom McKibbin defends his title as the DP World Tour heads to Hamburg in Germany

Tom McKibbin with the trophy after his victory in the Porsche European Open

After a visit to Belgium for the Soudal Open , the DP World Tour’s next stop is Germany for the European Open at Green Eagle, one of the longest golf courses in the continent, which includes the monster 705-yard 16th.

In last week’s event, Nacho Elvira held off the challenge of LIV Golf’s Thomas Pieters to win , and that makes him the early pacesetter in the race to claim a bonus $200,000 which will go to the winner of the European Swing phase of the season.

That doesn’t conclude until after the Tour’s next visit to Germany for July’s BMW International Open, so there are plenty of opportunities for others to stake a claim for the money over the coming weeks.

Like last week’s event, there is also an eye-catching figure available this week, with a prize-money fund of $2.5m, an increase of half a million on last year’s $2m.

Back then, Tom McKibbin claimed his maiden DP World Tour win by two shots to bank the first prize of $340,000. The reward for this week’s winner will be $425,000, while the runner-up will earn $275,000.

As well as the substantial financial rewards available, there are also 3,000 Race To Dubai points on the line, as well as world ranking points.

Below is the prize money payout for the European Open.

Tom McKibbin defends his title at the event as he aims for this second DP World Tour win.

He is likely to face strong competition, though, not least from Nacho Elvira, who plays on the back of victory at the Soudal Open. Danny Willett, who won The Masters in 2016, is also in the field, along with LIV Golf stand-in Laurie Canter .

Keito Nakajima, who claimed his first DP World Tour title at the Hero Indian Open, is also playing, along with Porsche Singapore Classic champion Jesper Svensson.

Other big names participating include four-time DP World Tour winner Rasmus Hojgaard and Adrian Otaegui, who won the Volvo China Open earlier in the month.

Aside from McKibbin, former champions in the field include Marcus Armitage, Jordan Smith and Richard McEvoy, while the likes of Marcel Siem, Yannik Paul and Maximilian Kieffer will be hoping to become the first German player since Bernhard Langer 29 years ago to lift the trophy.

Who Is Playing In The European Open?

There are some big names in the field for the European Open, including defending champion Tom McKibbin, Laurie Canter, four-time DP World Tour winner Rasmus Hojgaard, and 2016 winner of The Masters, Danny Willett.

European tour offers boost in prize money, new minimum pay

  • Associated Press

The European tour will offer $150,000 against players' earnings and pay $1,500 to other players if they miss the cut as part of a new schedule announced Thursday that boosts prize money and returns to Australia and parts of Asia.

The tour said prize money would be $144.2 million, not including the four majors and the World Golf Championship in Texas.

The four Rolex Series events -- Abu Dhabi, Dubai, the Scottish Open and BMW PGA Championship -- get $1 million increases to $9 million, with the season-ending DP World Tour Championship having a $10 million purse.

The tour also said $6 million from a bonus pool would be distributed among the leading eight players in the DP World Tour rankings at the end of the year.

The changes reflect alliances Europe has established with the PGA Tour and tours in South Africa and Australia amid new competition from Saudi-funded LIV Golf.

Most significant is an "Earnings Assurance Program" that provides $150,000 to full members that count against tournament earnings. It is similar to what the PGA Tour announced for this season, with a few changes.

The U.S. tour is offering $500,000 up front for rookies and players who earned their card back from the Korn Ferry Tour. Everyone else will be paid the difference if they don't earn $500,000 in the season.

The European tour is offering $20,000 at the start of the season for rookies, Challenge Tour graduates and those who make it through qualifying school. Everyone else will get paid the difference if the don't earn $150,000 at the end of the season.

"For us to be able to offer our members record prize funds and enhanced earning opportunities is massive, particularly when global economies are still feeling the effects of the pandemic and with the new challenge of rising inflation significantly putting pressure on costs in all facets of our business," said Keith Pelley, the chief executive of the European tour.

He said the overall prize fund is some $50 million more than two years ago.

The new season begins Nov. 24-27 -- one week after the current season ends -- with consecutive weeks of co-sanctioned events in South Africa and Australia. The Australian PGA Championship is the same week as the Joburg Open, while the Australian Open is the same week as the South African Open.

It will be the first time the Australian Open is co-sanctioned by Europe, while the Australian PGA was on the European schedule from 2015 through 2019. Neither event has been held since 2019 because of the pandemic.

Also new to the European tour -- officially the DP World Tour because of its umbrella sponsorship -- are tournaments in Singapore, Japan, Thailand and Korea.

That puts the 39 tournaments in 26 countries on five continents.

The new year starts with the Hero Cup, patterned after the former Seve Trophy to give European tour members a taste of the Ryder Cup format.

The Italian Open will be May 4-7, significant because it is at Marco Simone outside Rome, which hosts the Ryder Cup at the end of September. It's the same week as the Wells Fargo Championship on the PGA Tour, an elevated event worth $20 million, which would make it difficult for Americans -- along with American-based Europeans -- to play.

Missing from the schedule is a Spanish stop at Valderrama, which is likely to be used by LIV Golf next year.

The European tour also has a three-week break after the British Open, a break Pelley said was sought by players.

Ryder Cup qualifying ends Sept. 3 at the Omega European Masters in Switzerland. After that, players have the Irish Open, BMW PGA Championship, the French Open and then the Ryder Cup.
