London Travel Blogs And Travel Guides (Trip Planning)

Exploring King's Cross, London

These London travel blogs will help you create the perfect itinerary for your trip to one of the world’s most exciting cities!

One of my favourite parts of being a travel blogger is showcasing my home city via my blog. I mean, I adore travelling the world, but where do I know better than the city I live in?

I’ve built up lots of London travel guides on my blog, sharing my favourite quirky things to do in the city, where to eat , and some weird and wonderful places to stay too.

Secret Adventures - Kayak London

First time visitors should tick off the obvious sights like Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Tower Bridge, Hyde Park, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament. You’ll probably go on a free walking tour to see a few other sights too. But… after you’ve seen the obvious ‘in every movie about London’ landmarks, where’s next?

Well that’s where I come in! Once you’ve seen the top sights in Central London, it’s time to go local. Why not catch the tube north to beautiful, leafy Hampstead and mooch around Hampstead Heath or grab a bite to eat in one of the area’s characterful pubs?

How about heading west to Shepherd’s Bush , one of London’s vibrant areas, and enjoying neon crazy golf, tasty local food and some unique entertainment?

Puttshack, Westfield, Shepherd's Bush

You’ve probably heard about Camden and its famous market, but would you know the best places to eat once you get there? My London travel blogs will guide you to the most delicious treats in the area.

In fact, if you travel with your stomach, I’ve got guides to the best food markets in London , some great ramen joints dotted around the city, a list of bizarre themed restaurants , as well as a few hot tickets if you’re travelling on a tight budget .

Where to go for the best ramen in London

Find out about an amazing food tour of Borough Market, where Londoners go for cocktails in Covent Garden, and a few events at the Natural History Museum that are guaranteed to surprise you!

These London travel blogs are packed full of personal tips – things you’ll only learn from years of living in the city. Follow them and you’re guaranteed to plan a memorable, action-packed itinerary!

When Is The Best Time To Visit London?

England is a country obsessed with weather. Don’t know what to say? Comment on the weather! Us Brits talk about it a lot, but contrary to what you may have heard, we don’t have awful weather in London. It’s just a little unpredictable and varies from region to region.

You can expect average lows of around 5 °C in London in January / February, and highs around 25°C in July / August.

If you’re wondering when is the best time to visit England, I’d suggest planning a trip in May or June. The weather tends to be warm and sunny, rain is at a minimum and it’s out of peak season, so you shouldn’t be battling any big crowds either. The longest day is around 20th June every year, so it’s a time you can enjoy maximum daylight hours exploring!

I’ve never been a fan of November in London. It’s the wettest month of the year, and while December can be pretty cold, there’s a Christmas magic in London which always puts a smile on my face!

Planning your trip to London? Here are a few quick highlights:

Borrowing your dad’s camera for your yearly railroad vacay is one thing. Filming yourself hitting the road to seek offbeat adventures in a remote corner of the world, and then documenting it all for a binge-watching audience is something entirely apart. This is of course the reality for travel vloggers.

Unlike any other media, travel vlogs provide a captivating insight into the world of travel. Hearing about your cruise ship tour is not nearly as interesting as watching you discover hidden rooms, exclusive rooftop parties and underwater cults.

As a result, the list of travel vloggers grows as the storytelling techniques of its creators evolve. And we, the viewers, get to follow all their travel adventures.

To help you explore the best travel content out there, we've compiled a list of some of the best travel vloggers out there to keep your travel abstinences in check.

Fly from vietnam to london.

Currently, there are many airlines operating direct flights from Hanoi / Ho Chi Minh City to London. These include Qatar Airways , Emirates , or Vietnam Airlines , most of which do not fly directly, but you have to transit at least once. Ticket prices fluctuate around $ 1.000/round trip.

london travel vlogs

If you go to London from other cities in Europe, the popular way is fly because London does not have borders adjacent to the rest of the old continent of Europe. However, if you go from Paris to London , you can take a train because there is a tunnel through the Manche strait (English Channel, Channel Tunnel) that connects England and France. The cheapest train fares to London or other cities in the UK from € 45, can be booked through www.eurostar.com or www.loco2.com .

london travel vlogs

The bus departs from around midnight at 11:30pm, the fare is only £ 1.50 / way but cannot be paid with cash, you must use a contactless card or an Oyster card.

London travel guide blog: Getting around the city

Like most other big cities in Europe, London has a developed and diverse public transport system. London’s Metro network – London Underground, also known as “the Tube”, is spread across the city so you can traveling around the city as quickly and conveniently as possible.

london travel vlogs

The whole city is connected by 11 Tube lines, and divided into 9 zones. The central area is zone 1 and zones 6-9 are located at the edge of the city. The useful tip when traveling in London is that you should buy an Oyster Card which like a credit card and use the money in that account to buy tickets, quite similar to the MRT card in Singapore or Seoul. Oyster Card can be used when taking bus, tram and railways in the city.

london travel vlogs

The fare for each route depends on the zone and the distance you want to go. The longer the journey, the more expensive. Buying Oyster card is always cheaper than buying single ticket, unless you only go one or two trips during the time you stay in London.

london travel vlogs

Note that not every Metro station has an elevator, so if you bring a lot of luggage, you need to consider, pretty heavy when have to carry it. In addition, if you planning to travel a lot, you can refer to the London Pass , you can get on any hop-on hop-off bus to reach the location you want when using this pass.

My trip to London blog: Where to stay?

In fact, London that people often known only occupies a very small part of The Greater London, an extremely large territory of England. Greater London is divided into 33 region, large and small areas, and the city of London only is one of them. The districts in London are also not named by the number as in Paris but they have separate names.

To experience the hotels / hostels in London we probably have to visit this city many times, and each time stay in a different neighborhood. Each neighborhood has a unique feature that you can refer to as below:

Cheap hostels but good quality in London

In fact, hostels in London are not cheap, with average room rates ranging £ 25 – £ 40/night/dorm bed. You can find some hostels for less than £ 15/night but the quality will be quite low. Hostel prices often go up on weekends, so you should avoid these dates and book early for more options.

The 20 Best YouTube Travel Channels and Vlogs

Explore the world via YouTube travel channels and vlogs

Editorial Manager

The art of travel has changed beyond all recognition in the past few years. What once cost a fortune and took weeks of planning can now be documented on a phone and by booking a flight on the way to the airport. Here’s a selection of YouTube’s finest travel channels and vlogs that showcase the creativity the new medium opens up to all of us.

Travel stories have been shared orally from the earliest days of humanity. Yarns of great adventure may have been embellished with the occasional sea monster and one-eyed giant, but even these fanciful accounts had some basis in reality. Journals by explorers were hugely popular with the general public soon after the introduction of mass transit, revealing treasures such as Ancient Egypt and other global wonders.

Travel books, high-quality photography and newspaper accounts soon followed, before TV took over and brought incredible sights into living rooms around the world. People who never thought they would experience the magic of travel for themselves were now given the urge to explore, and so a boom in the tourism industry followed.

Today, thanks to the proliferation of online travel, you can see the world with the simple click of a button.

Sorelle Amore

It’s not always easy to watch other people live out fantasy lifestyles while we can only look on enviously, planning our annual vacations from home. Sorelle Amore has benefited more than most, but her graciousness and warm approach to viewers make her journey all the more pleasurable to watch.

Mountain Trekker

One of India’s best-known travel vloggers, Varhun Vagish initially began his channel as a domestic series. Having explored the country extensively, Varhun is now taking on the surrounding region and is keen to get other Indians to do the same. We really like the way affordability is at the top of the list of considerations when it comes to this vlog – a rare but welcome consideration.

George Benson Travel

Likeable Geroge Benson has wisely decided to separate his passion for travel from his love of football. The travel channel follows George as he explores various locations in his unique style, whereas the vlogger’s other channel focuses on his beloved Chelsea FC. You’ll be pleased to know George’s terrible life choices seem to be limited to his sporting preferences.

Migrationology with Mark Wiens

If any two things work better together on YouTube than food and travel, we have yet to discover them. Mark Wiens has cultivated a huge following online, and it’s easy to see why. His love of food and willingness to hurl himself into every challenge is infectious. While perhaps not for travel purists, Migrationology is still one of the most informative channels to follow on the platform.

Eva zu Beck

Once of this parish, Eva zu Beck is now among the most popular personalities on the travel circuit. Her videos often feature the places we rarely see covered by mainstream media, making her insightful look at the world particularly welcome. Eva’s rise to fame began with a couple of early videos going viral in Pakistan, and she hasn’t looked back since.

The Budgeteers

A trio of friends from different parts of the world make up The Budgeteers, and they have stumbled across a winning formula – fun, enlightening and easy-to-follow trips that appeal to everyone with limited funds. The only problem these vloggers face is that they are prone to becoming victims of their own success. Every step away from the “budget” concept seems to be a massive misstep, thrusting them back into the clutches of sponsors and brands eager to capitalise on their unique skills. This is one team that we want to see less of as their format works best in periodical doses.

Fearless and Far

Marine biology graduate Mike Corey prides himself on taking on the more extreme side of travel through his online adventures. Not all of his choices are worth recommending, as some border on unethical. However, when he gets it right, he really gets it right. The slick production values on his videos are incredibly planned out, making Mike an easy watch.

Drew Binsky

Boasting over 1 billion video views and 5 million followers on social media, Drew Binksy has been championed by several brands in the relatively short time he has been a professional travel blogger. His ultimate aim is to visit every country in the world – something he was so close to doing before the coronavirus outbreak. We’re sure his adventures will continue again soon, and in the meantime, he can keep perfecting his golf swing, a sport he regularly partakes in when travelling.

Shizuka’s Food Adventures in Japan

Part of the wider byfood.com network, this series serves as a treat for lovers of everything Japanese. The main focus is the country’s culinary delights, but host Shizuka Anderson clearly has a flair for travel blogging, too. Describing herself as a Tokyoite, the presenter ends up discovering places that would light up any Instagram feed. It’s one to check out if you’re in need of improving your social media game.

Chas Bruns fully embraces the thrifty lifestyle he espouses in this vlog all about the virtues of penny-pinching. Chas hunts out the cheapest experiences and holidays he can, sharing his tips with viewers. This series might not be the most polished one on this list, but it’s arguably the most useful.

FunForLouis

Thankfully, FunForLouis is also fun for the rest of us. This adventurous travel expert might initially appear like the stereotypical travel dude we all want to avoid on holiday, but he’s actually developed a keen eye for the unexpected. Louis is a great host who is at his best when taking off on his own with only a small camera for company.

100 Countries with Kara and Nate

Travel couples are probably the most annoying people across social media. There’s a delicate balancing act between being overly smug and privileged and genuinely engaging and informative, but Kara and Nate just about get it right. Their goal of visiting 100 countries by 2020 has now been achieved, so we do wonder if the pair will be slowing down, especially given how difficult it is to travel at the moment.

Vagabrothers

The high levels of production employed by Marko and Alex, two wanderlust-fuelled brothers, help elevate their channel to another level. Each destination they visit gets the documentary-style treatment, and their videos are all the better for it.

Tourist 2 Townie

If you’re interested in what it’s like to live in a country, then Gareth Leonard’s deeper approach to travel is for you. The flashy, short-form videos that other vloggers aim for really aren’t worth your time if you want to explore a new place with someone keen on expanding cultural horizons. Gareth takes his time with each piece of content and delivers a series that will make you want to learn more before you travel.

Another great vlog with a strong emphasis on food is Miss Mina, hosted by the eponymous Mina Oh. This particular channel is about global travel, whereas a more popular incarnation – Sweet and Tasty TV – hones in on Korean culture. Both are riveting in their own way, although food videos are definitely the strong point throughout.

Wolters World

This honest travel vlog is packed full of practical tips and helpful information. Making viral content doesn’t appear to be at the forefront of Mark Wolters’ thinking, as he and his family explore the world. It all started from one travel let-down and has now blossomed into a wonderfully helpful resource.

PsychoTraveller

Don’t be put off by the rather disturbing name of the vlog – Aly (who is a psychology graduate from England) is actually a great host and guide. Aly is so good that she’s self-published a book to help others looking to travel to some of the many places she has visited.

Phil Good Travel

We’ve previously lamented the lack of diversity when it comes to travel shows on TV , and sadly, the same is also true for vlogging. One man making a real change is Phil of Philwaukee fame, who has teamed up with the Matador Network for this series. It’s fun, full of positive vibes and something we really want to see more of.

Jumping into a vintage Volkswagen (VW) van and driving off into the sunset is the stuff teenage dreams are made of. It’s also the reality that this vlog follows, as two intrepid travellers aim to go off the grid and find their own adventures around the world. VW vans apparently have different nicknames depending on where you are – for Brits, they are known as camper vans, while Americans call them buses. Kombi is the most popular term with the rest of the world.

Jenny J Zhou

Originally from Australia and now settling into the Los Angeles lifestyle by way of a significant stay in Shanghai, Jenny Zhou’s career is just as fascinating as her travel content. There are some great on-location videos on her channel, but as Jenny attempts to make it in the acting world, we wonder how many more travel videos we’ll get. There’s still plenty to explore in the vlogger’s back catalogue though, and her Shanghai films, in particular, make for fun viewing.

There are so many brilliant UK travel bloggers…

I feel like we don’t get the recognition or klout of our American friends who shout their successes from the rooftops.

So, I’m here to highlight some of the best UK travel blogs for you to plan your trip by. Let’s look at the best travel blogs, UK style. Think of this as my travel blog awards, to the best UK travel bloggers (IMO).

There are a few other lists out there, featuring the best UK travel influencers , but I’ve met almost each and every one of these British travel bloggers personally. I can totally vouch for their skills, their personalities and their outlook, AND their dedication.

This article will introduce you to some of the top UK travel blogs. Whether you’re looking for UK travel bloggers to follow, work with or keep an eye on – these are the best.

List of the best UK travel influencers

All the top UK travel bloggers are based in the UK, not necessarily from here.

So, in no particular order of best UK travel blogs, here goes…

The Top UK Travel Bloggers

Read on for the best UK travel blogs in the WORLD. Some of these UK travel bloggers would call themselves ‘influencers’, others, ‘writers’, but I like to say ‘UK travel content creators’.

1. Victoria Philpott from Vicky Flip Flop Travels

Coffee in London

That’s me!

It might look like I’m here there and everywhere but I am actually based in the UK. You know me, I blog about festivals, holidays and making the most of your time off.

I’ve recently set up a new England travel blog at Day Out in England . I hope it will become the best UK blog out there!

“Travel and festival blogger | Holidays make me happy | Love life; especially exploring, music, London + breakfast.”

top uk bloggers

“Whether it’s travelling on a shoestring or splashing the cash to see the world, travel writer Victoria Philpott reports back on her adventures in the hope of giving her readers the confidence and knowledge to embark on their own. She’s a full time traveller now, visiting some of the world’s most interesting destinations and coolest festivals to inspire you to make the most of your annual leave.””

2. Helen Davies from Helen in Wonderlust

Best UK based bloggers

I first met Helen at a travel blogging conference in Dublin and by the end of our first drink together we had a mutual appreciation for one another. That shouldn’t sound weird if it does.

Helen used to work at Kelloggs but wasn’t responsible for the Choco Krispies / Coco Pops renaming debacle, which was my first question.

Now she runs tours in Africa with her company Rock My Adventure Tours , and lives there half of the year. Her travel blog Helen in Wonderlust , is the leading course of info on backpacking Africa. You can find out more about Helen in the podcast chat I had with her. I’ve also travelled to Malawi, Zimbabwe and Zambia with Helen, and most recently, went camping in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland with her.

One of the most fun travel bloggers in the UK!

“Liverpool based Travel Blogger, Mischief Maker. Loves Africa, Live Music and Adventure. Proud Auntie.”

UK travel bloggers

“Helen Davies is a an adventurer, part-time traveller and full-time Africa lover. Not one to do things by halves, Helen can usually be found on or planning an epic trip. Having spent a year in Africa, she’s keen to encourage others to explore her favourite continent. She writes about her travels (in Africa and elsewhere), and about the people she meets along the way on her blog.”

3. Paul & Karen from Global Help Swap

UK travel bloggers

Karen and Paul are brilliant.

Together with me, Jen and Alicia we form the originally Midlands consortium of UK travel bloggers. They’ve recently set up house down London way though they’re well-known for their worldwide house sitting skills.

If you want a laugh, and a good story, get some Global Help Swap in your life. I’ve been to Costa Rica with Paul on a press trip, and had an amazing time at two years of Glastonbury with them too.

“Responsible, Local and Authentic Travel. Real Travel, Real Experiences. Tips for memorable and meaningful travel.”

Uk travel bloggers

“Paul and Karen have visited over 50 countries and are certainly not tired of travelling yet. A recent trip to Mexico was a pleasant encounter with fun loving, generous Mexicans and a few cervezas. When they are not on the move, you can find them deep in a good book with a bottle of red wine close at hand.”

4. Emily Luxton from EmilyLuxton.co.uk

london travel vlogs

Emily is great fun and one of my favourite travel bloggers to travel with. She’s an excellent photographer and writer, and loves to get the most out of every trip she goes on. She’s so passionate about travel and often goes off on multi-month adventures, most recently to Central America.

Emily Luxton Travels claims she’s a shy girl who found herself travelling, but usually when I see her she’ll be making friends with a glass of wine in her hand. And I see her quite a lot as we’ve lived together for three years now. We’ve had a lot of adventures together – including paddle boarding in Hampshire , in Trentino and in Chang Mai in Thailand too.

“Award winning full-time travel blogger and solo traveller championing deeper travel. Blogging about adventure, food, and personal development through travel.”

london travel vlogs

“In a nutshell, my travel style is  Deep Travel . That means travelling slower when possible, and travelling intelligently. My mission is to  get to know the world;  not just travel it all or see it all, but to try to understand it as much as possible – and have some fun doing it!  I blog mainly about culture, food, art, people, and landscapes … always focusing on connecting with a new place as deeply and honestly as I can.”

5. Dan from DanFlyingSolo

top uk travel bloggers

Dan is absolutely one of my favourite travel buddies and UK bloggers. His photography is incredible and I love the videos he makes too.

Dan lives in Portugal and the UK, in between jetting off around the world. He loves a goat, an adventure, and an opportunity to try something new.

Last year we went skiing for the first time , for him, and although it didn’t go to plan, he stayed positive and did what he does best instead – took photos and made a video.

“Happiest lost with a camera | Travel photographer, writer + blogger | Flag of Portugal Immigrant | Flag of United Kingdom Born | @lonelyplanet ambassador”

best uk travel bloggers

“I’m obsessed with exploring the world, meeting amazing people (and goats) and getting as lost as possible with my camera. I was on the road for 1467 days between 2014 – 2018, taking a chance on changing my career from restaurants to capturing the world and somehow it all worked out…”

6. Jen Lowthrop from She Gets Around

Top UK travel bloggers

Me and Jen go way back, in travel blogger terms. Now she’s one of my favourite people in the UK travel blogger world – we’ve had some great times in London, Porto and Brighton at various conferences.

She’s all about the volunteering, and the dating, and is a great person to talk to to chew the fat with too.

We had a great summer trip sailing in Croatia one year, and she’s another one in the Glastonbury crew .

“Travel blogger on a journey to find my element, through  #travel , adventure, writing, drama, food, love and community.”

UK travel bloggers

“For Jenny, there is nowhere too typical, too outrageous, too hot or too cold to travel to. From a tranquil walk around the Taj Mahal to a nine-month trek across Asia to a hectic but momentous 48-hour bus ride in Northern India, she travels for the people and the stories. The unparalleled experiences, rare moments and genuine human connections feed her passion for exploration, which is hinged on learning cultures, eating exotic delicacies like sugar-fried crickets and living like a local wherever she goes. Jenny says she loves the world too much to let time go by without her next adventure planned.”

7. Monica Stott from The Travel Hack

Best UK Bloggers

Monica is brilliant, and one of the UK’s top travel bloggers. She’s got three beautiful children and life up in Chester somewhere and one of those French bulldog dogs that people like too.

Her top UK blog all about the stylish travel and I don’t know anyone who enjoys Twitter chats more than her. We used to work together in social media what seems like an age ago, but now we just talk a lot on Facebook Messenger instead.

She has one of the best blogs UK has to offer.

We’ve been to the Florida Keys together , to Levi in Finland and many, many UK travel blogger conferences too.

“Travel blogger with a love for adventure. Top 10 UK travel blog.”

UK top travel bloggers

“”Monica is a full time blogger and one of the UK’s top 10 travel bloggers. She runs  The Travel Hack , a blog about stylish adventure travel and will soon be blogging about travelling with a baby as she’s expecting her first child. Monica began blogging in 2009 when she travelled around Asia and Australia for 2 years. She studied to become a journalist but got swept up in the big, bad world of blogging and never left.”

8. Emily Ray from The Cosy Traveller

Top UK travel blogs

Isn’t she lovely hey?

Emily is a sweetheart and is enjoying her lovely life with the help of a good brew and with the presence of an animal now and then. I just went on her blog to find her social media details and for her latest post she’s photoshopped her face onto someone holding a koala. That’s just the way she rolls over on The Cosy Traveller.

Emily is definitely one of my favourite UK travel bloggers.

“Travel blogger and content writer. I blog about comfort, tea and animals all over the world.”

uk top travel bloggers

“Emily Ray is a London-based copywriter who seeks to make the most of weekends and her annual leave to explore everything the world has to offer. After completing her journalism studies, Emily re-launched her blog The Cosy Traveller in June 2014, which focuses on everything that makes her happy, including animals, tea and luxury. She’s also a published travel writer, with work appearing in TNT, Time Out and Flight Centre’s online blog.”

9. Chloe Gunning from Wanderlust Chloe

Best UK travel bloggers

Chloe is great. We’ve been skiing in France together, and lived it up on St Kitts where we drank so many rum cocktails I’m pretty sure we were sick of them by the end of the week.

Anyway, her blog is awesome and she’s an ambassador for Lonely Planet and Visit England, and probably other stuff I don’t know about too. She used to work as a producer with Emma Bunton – Baby Spice!

“Travel blogger, creative producer, foodie and adventurer showing you the world. Happiest when holding a mojito! Regular Lonely Planet + Metro contributor.” wanderlustchloe.com

Based: London

10. Macca Sherifi from An Adventurous World

Best UK travel bloggers

Macca and I used to work together too, with Monica. Oh the FUN we had. He’s a good friend, and I especially enjoy his company after we’ve both had a little drinky drinky.

Last time I went out with him he was singing McFly songs at full volume at the bar. As for being a blogger, he’s super passionate about his work, and seeing the world. His photography and video skills are amazing. He’s one of the top UK travel vloggers.

We haven’t ever actually travelled together – need to rectify that.

“Travel blogger | Photographer | Presenter. Capturing the world one destination at a time. Warning: Will do anything for adventure!” anadventurousworld.com

11. Lloyd and Yaya from Hand Luggage Only

Top UK travel bloggers

Lloyd and Yaya were crowned Vuelio’s Travel Bloggers of the Year in 2017 & 18 . Meaning, they’ve actually got the highest views of any travel blogger in the UK. Their blog is AMAZING. It’s the fun and the photography that makes it so good.

They’re two of the best people I know and after our awesome weekend in Hamburg together, I just think they’re both brilliant. They deserve every success they have. Think they should probably sit down and take a rest though – travel much?

Theirs is the most popular travel blog in the UK!

“Travel & photography blog by Yaya & Lloyd | Lovers of travel | Dance ninjas extraordinaire | Will travel for cake.” handluggageonly.co.uk

12. Jess Gibson from The Travelista

Best UK Travel Bloggers

Jess looks incredible wherever she goes and whatever she does. I love seeing what she’s wearing around the world – pretty sure her Canada trip was some of her best outfits.

Her UK blog isn’t just all about fashion though, her travel tips for England, Europe, the US and her Asian adventures will help you travel in style. Jess has just welcomed her son Theo into the world and I’m so excited to see her embrace their journeys together.

We had a great time on a Princess Cruise press trip together.

13. Shu Lin from DejaShu

top uk vloggers

I love Shu. She’s a ball of energy and fun, yet really knows her stuff when it comes to travel and food too. I’ve learned a lot from her, especially about air fryers.

Shu doesn’t actually have a blog, as she’s a YouTuber and Instagrammer but I couldn’t write a list of the best UK travel influencers without her. She’s also a BBC star with a documentary about Chinese food in England that you need to check out.

“British-Born Chinese 📷: sharing meals and life stories 🍜: London based food + travel vlogger and presenter 💌: [email protected] 👇🏽: youtube.com/dejashu 📍: #london

top uk vloggers

“Dejashu is a visual diary of each chapter of my life and celebrates all the things that I love in life: food, travel and those seemingly little moments that end up leaving the deepest memories.” YouTube |  Instagram |  Twitter | Facebook Email: hello(@)dejashu.com

14.  Abi King from Inside the Travel Lab

Best travel blogs in the UK

As one of the most well known and experienced on this list of UK based travel bloggers Abi has been featured in the likes of Grazia, Conde Nast, the BBC and Stylist Magazine. Ooo, the blogger did good. And once upon a time she was a doctor, which explains all the ‘lab’ influence. Just realised she’d be a great person to go on a press trip with, what with all that medical knowledge.

“ Travel writer and photographer who swapped a career as a doctor for a life on the road…Exploring unusual journeys…”

Top UK travel bloggers

“Abigail King is an experienced journalist and photographer who works with both print and online media. She has circled the globe twice, camped in the snows of Kilimanjaro and Patagonia and tracked down tigers, turtles and panda bears. She’s then had a hot shower and embraced the city life of New York, Rio, Paris and Tokyo. Her work has appeared in Lonely Planet, the BBC, CNN, National Geographic’s Intelligent Travel, France Today, easyJet Traveller, The Huffington Post and more. She’s also written countless city and regional guides.”

15. Eulanda & Omo from Hey! Dip Your Toes In

uk travel bloggers

Eulanda and Omo like to describe themselves as your ‘everyday kind of couple’ but I’ve met them and they’re way cooler than that.

They enjoy discovering the stories behind the stories of the people they meet and the places they visit. They say that thanks to their travels they’re always building on their identity and they want to inspire their readers to explore themselves through travel too.

Eulanda & Omo Osagiede are London-based freelance writers and award-winning social influencers who run the popular travel, food, and lifestyle blog HDYTI (Hey! Dip your toes in).

Arianwen is an original member of The Travel Chicks but left to go and explore South America for a year. Then she came back, lasted a few months, and went travelling round New Zealand. She’s now in London but the last time we went for a few glasses of red wine, I could tell her feet were definitely getting itchy. I’ll give her a few months before she’s off again on another #scaredbritless adventure (her #, can’t take the credit!).

“Adventure travel blogger, marathon runner and professional editor. Enjoys photography, travel literature and high-adrenaline activities.”

Top UK Travel bloggers

23. Alicia Drewnicki from Alicia Explores

UK Travel bloggers best of

I’d say Alicia would be the number one call if you’re looking for someone to present something – a TV show, awards, podcast – anything. I first met Alicia when she had to interview me for a Jack Wills Adventure Travel night in store. We hit it off right away and always have a good laugh together when we hang out. Love her.

24. Char Taylor from Taylor Hearts Travel

Top UK travel blogger

If you don’t follow Char’s weekly competition update you’re missing out. I’m pretty sure I won my upcoming September Cuba trip by entering one of the competitions on her page, although I can’t be sure. I love the design of Char’s blog, and the content too. If you’re looking for a UK travel blog with a realistic idea of what it’s like to travel with children, you need Char.

“Stylish, unique & exciting travel for you, your home & wardrobe. Travel lifestyle blogger. Shortlisted for ‘Best Female’ Blogger Awards 2014.”

25. Victoria & Steve from Bridges and Balloons

Top UK travel blogger

Victoria and Steve are a dream team. They run their blog alongside their passions, for Victoria that’s her charity work and for Steve it’s his Planetary Collective film, shown at SXSW.

It’s thanks to them that I visited one of my favourite places, San Pancho in Mexico, last year.

They’re such lovely people on their blog and off, I hope I get to be like them one day. Two of the loveliest UK travel bloggers you’ll find!

“Semi-nomadic couple with a fondness for cake, indie bookshops and cosmic wonder. Can be found writing and making films in beautiful places. Home is #Peckham ”

UK travel bloggers

“Sometimes we go for a weekend, other times for six months, and once for three years. We seek out all things special – the unique, the cosy and the creative – the kinds of places and experiences you want to tell people about. And that’s what this blog is for – a place to share our finds and our stories from along the way. It’s yours for inspiration. Things we love, and that you can expect to read about on here, include: special places to stay; whiskey cocktails; mountains; glamping; hipster coffee shops; vegetarian brunch; yoga; street food markets; cakes; festivals; beaches; independent bookshops and cosmic wonder. I also tend to share a lot of my personal journey – the ups and downs from along the way. I try to write things I’d like to read.”

26. Tanaka from Tanaka Travels

Tanaka is a super stylish UK travel blogger. She describes herself as “your visual travel mood board” and has some amazing photos around the world.

She lives in London but travels all over, and runs female only trips too. She’s been publishing some great UK travel content just lately, and has totally made me want to go to Southend!

Tanaka also some great advice on checking out Iceland for cheap – go check it out!

27. Amar Hussein from Gap Year Escape

Best UK travel bloggers

Amar’s a great guy. He’s probably one of the people I’ve known the longest on the list. His blog is filled with practical advice for newbie travellers to make the most out of their adventures.

“Editor-in-Chief of  GapYearEscape.com , 7 continent world traveller since ’09, author, digital nomad, pug lover and peanut M&M connoisseur.”

Top 5 British Travel Bloggers

Of course,  this list of top UK travel bloggers is my opinion , based on who I’ve met, worked with and heard about. If you want a scientific calculation of the best travel blogs in the UK, check out this blog directory from Gary Arndt .

He’s one of the world’s top travel bloggers and looks at many different stats to come up with his list from all around the world. When I last checked, in April 2020 these were the top 5 UK travel blogs …

1. A Luxury Travel Blog (he has 100s of writers, so I don’t consider it a blog for this list of best UK blogs, but Gary does).

2. Hand Luggage Only

3. The Travel Hack

4. ME – Vicky FlipFlop Travels

5. Abi, Inside the Travel Lab

29. Kat Burrington from Travel with Kat

Travels with Kat

Kat and I went to Gambia together back in December 2012 on a press trip. She’s part of the Travelator Media group, a group of mature UK travel bloggers aged 40+ ready to create content. Kat writes about sustainable travel and human rights, among other topics, and has won the AITO Responsible Tourism Award for her work in Gambia.

“Travel photographer, writer & blogger. Co-founder @TravelatorMedia. @ PlanUK Digital Ambassador.

Travel with Kat began in 2011 but Kat has always been a travel writer and beauty lover. She received her first camera at the age of 10 and, since that moment, she’s never abandoned it. Through her blog she’d like to share with readers the joy of discovering new lands, cultures and friends whether exploring Britain (her homeland) or on her travels many miles away.

30. Jodie Young from The Little Backpacker

Top Uk travel bloggers

I went to the Gold Coast with Jodie as she won a competition with my old work gapyear.com. I was responsible for chauffeuring her and the other two winners around, except the hilly route was so windy and scary I decided it would be much better left to Jodie. She saved my bacon.

Really like Jodie, she’s got a great life attitude and her blog is both informative and fun, love your work. And yeah, she’s actually really little.

“Small and Adventurous Travel Blogger. Student in London. Lover of photography, travel, roadtrips, ice cream & the ocean.”

UKs top travel bloggers

“The Little Backpacker is a travel blog about adventurous and budget travel. Follow along for advice on travelling on a budget, tips for taking a gap year/working abroad and lots of pretty pictures to inspire you.” Website | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Pinterest |  YouTube Email

31. Paul Dow from Trav Monkey

UK top travel bloggers

Paul is a straight talking Manc who knows how to make a beautiful video. His site is a platform for all bloggers to submit content with him looking over it all. It was actually on here that I wrote my first guest post, under the ‘VickyFlipFlop’ guise.

Paul is also responsible for the awesome Traverse events, along with Micheal Ball too.

Interesting fact for you; I once threw a caipirinha in his face after a misunderstanding. He’s never let me forget it (definitely deserved it).

“Pro Travel Blogger, YouTube creator. Have a wallet full of strange currency.”

UK travel bloggers

“TravMonkey has been going for around 8 years and first started when Paul was half way through a 2 year stint of travel around the world. These days he covers his travels and London life with a focus on the quirky and adventurous.”

32. Simon Heyes from Simon’s Jam Jar

 UK travel bloggers

Simon Heyes, what a guy. Even though he pipped me to the post to go to Papua New Guinea and be their blog ambassador, I still like him.

We’ve had some great nights out at travel events in London together and he’s very entertaining. He recently, actually I think it was a while ago now, did the 24 Peaks Challenge in 24 hours to raise money for a charity close to his heart. He’s one of my absolute favourite English travel bloggers, although I feel like I’m saying that about everyone now.

“Digital Marketer / World Traveller / Storyteller / Foodie / Winner ‘Best Male’ Travel Blogger Awards 2014 / Co-Founder at 8MS.com .”

top UK travel bloggers

“Up to 2012, Simon had an international role as a digital marketer. He took over 100 flights a year. After 9 hard working years, he chucked in the towel and decided to travel on his own time. Simon recently completed a six month trip to South America, Australia, New Zealand and China, and plans to explore Indonesia, Bali, Central America and Antarctica at some point in the next few years.”

I know Ed from the London blogger meet ups. He lived in London, then he didn’t, then he did, didn’t, and now he’s back again. We travel bloggers just can’t make our minds up – so much world to explore. Visit his blog and expect to see lots of photos of him in tiny shorts on beaches.

34. Sarah Toyin

Top Uk travel bloggers

I loved reading Sarah’s articles about Korea, having had a flying visit there for a week. She spent two years there and so has that great insider knowledge that can only come from actually living in a place.

As well as South Korea, Sarah is a fountain of knowledge on Ghana. If you’re planning in travelling there then check it out. Here videos are great too!

“ British Nigerian | Jesus💕 I’ve lived abroad twice (Korea and Ghana) and travel solo often | I enjoy kdramas, nollywood + docs 📧 “

35. Sophie Collard

UK travel blogger

Sophie has a few different projects in the pipeline (don’t we all) but she’s best known for her trainspotting and her love of death tourism. Yes. Known across all the social media as ‘SophonTrack’ Sophie will do all she can to avoid taking a plane anywhere – very eco, well done.

She also runs the TravelDarkly site with a friend which focuses on this strange obsession people seem to have with visiting devastation sites. From haunted pubs to old operating theatre museums, she’ll have covered it.

“Travel writer and copywriter. Social media type. Ride trains and blog about them. Write about macabre destinations over at traveldarkly.com “

37. Flora Baker from Flora the Explorer

Great UK travel bloggers

Flora is one of life’s good people. She’s so lovely and travels in a way that reflects what’s important to her. I was gripped as she travelled South America, learning Spanish and meeting people as she explored. She’s now based in London and is planning on walking the Camino de Santiago this year.

As well as being one of the top British travel bloggers Flora is also an author – I’ve read the Adult Orphan Club , and although it’s super sad and I dread the day I’ll actually need to read it again, it’s a super useful resource for anyone who’s lost their parents.

“British traveller, blogger & freelance writer. Left handed Latinophile. Perpetual story searcher.”

UK top travel bloggers

“‘Flora the Explorer’ is a place for aspiring travellers, avid volunteers and those who want to explore the world through meaningful interaction with local people and their cultures. Over the last six years the site’s founder and writer, Flora Baker, has lived in Florence and San Francisco, worked in India and Iceland, volunteered in Nepal and Lithuania, and more recently, spent eighteen months attempting to become fluent in Spanish while journeying around South America. Through the site’s stories and photographs about her long-term, slow travel experiences, Flora evokes the sense of adventure and curiosity we all have – both for the world itself, and our place within it.”

Bit jealous that she’s been travelling ever since she finished university – good on her. She’s well into her YouTube channel and I’ve spent the last 30 minutes catching up with the last few weeks. I enjoy the comments about her accent – love a northerner.

She has one of the best UK travel sites on the internet.

“Award-winning travel blogger  & YouTuber. Entrepreneur, dreamer and major foodie. See the world, I dare you!”

Top UK travel bloggers

“Victoria is originally from Manchester in the UK but has visited 32 countries on 5 different continents since 2008. 44. Kirsty Leanne from KirstyLeanne.com

Kirsty Leanne UK travel blogger

Kirsty Leanne is on a quest to change the way travel looks. Quite rightly she’s sick of just seeing the same old looking slim white girls as the face of travel, and is determined to get the travel industry to have more of a realistic representation. I wholeheartedly support this. She works hard as a plus size travel blogger, to get others who might normally be put off to travel more. She’s also one of the most fashionable on this list!

If you’re thinking about a family vacation in London, it can feel a little overwhelming which is why we’ve put together a London itinerary for a visit with kids.

London is brilliant and yes, we’re biased.

Most of The London Mother staff were born and raised here and we wouldn’t want to do what we do or raise our families anywhere else.

Consider us your friendly virtual tour guides and just the right people to show you around.

We’ll show you the best things to do in London with kids (of all ages) and what to do if you’re only in town for three or five days.

If you’re researching family vacations to London , this guide will show you the best things to do in the capital with kids (of all ages) even if you’re only in town for three or five days.

Where to stay in London with kids

Where to stay really comes down to personal choice and budget.

Staying in Zone 1 is the most expensive but means you’re close to all the tourist attractions and traveling back to your hotel will be easy.

St James Hotel and Club family hotel London

The further away from Zone 1 you go, the cheaper things will be.

Our favourite family hotels in London include:

  • Park Plaza County Hall
  • Europa House
  • CitySpace Leicester Square
  • The Zetter Hotel
  • Corinthia London

Itinerary for 3 days in London with family

pin - 3 Day London Itinerary With Kids

If you’ve only got three days in London with kids, we suggest:

The Changing of the Guards takes place from 10.45 am daily, which you can view from outside the Palace forecourt.

BuckinghamPalace

There is a playground on the southwest corner of St James Park that you can take the kids to whilst you’re waiting for the Changing of The Guard.

Arguably the most iconic symbol of London, its official name is actually the Elizabeth Tower. Big Ben is actually the largest of the tower’s five bells and weighs 13.7 tonnes!

Big-ben-Clock-London

The London Eye

A must-do whilst you’re in London, a ride on this giant Ferris wheel offers unrestricted views across London and beyond.

London Eye

Every ticket comes with The London Eye 4D Experience, a multi-sensory show that captures the history of The London Eye through to incredible special effects.

Queues can be long, so make sure you purchase fast-track tickets or try going towards the end of the day.

SEA Life Aquarium

SEA Life has 350 species of sharks, octopuses, piranhas and more for the family to discover.

sealife-london-aquarium

For an extra special visit, book one of their VIP experiences, which can include a behind-the-scenes tour with the experts or even a chance to feed the penguins.

The Natural History Museum is an excellent place for everyone to learn and discover – whatever the weather.

Investigate for families at the natural history museum

Free family activities include the famous Dinosaurs gallery, an investigation centre where kids and adults can hold fossils, talk with scientists and more.

There is an outdoor gallery is open all year round, with more than 3,000 species of creatures and plants to explore throughout the seasons.

The Science Museum always offers interactive and educational activities for families.

‘The Garden’ is an excellent multi-sensory play space for kids to discover all things scientific.

Science Museum Chemistry Bar

Constructed in memory of the late Princess Diana, the playground has a huge wooden pirate ship that kids will love climbing.

There are also different sculptures to climb and a water play area.

Diana, Princess of Wales, Memorial Garden, London

As London’s largest Royal Park, it covers more than 350 acres and its fine scenery will be a welcome change to the hustle and bustle of the city.

The Tower is a renowned historical castle and fortress famous for being home to the Crown Jewels.

Another legendary part of visiting the Tower of London is the Beefeaters, so make sure you book the Yeoman Warder tour, where the Beefeaters will enlighten you on the history of the Tower.

They also have plenty of anecdotes to keep the kids entertained.

Another iconic symbol of London that has much to offer families.

The bridge has a dedicated rota for young visitors full of fun activities, and their interactive Family Trail app and booklet will keep them entertained as they learn.

London bus crosses river thames over tower bridge

See if the kids (or the adults) have the nerves of steel needed to walk across the glass floor!

Borough Market

One of London’s most popular food markets, you can try pretty much any food from around the world.

Perfect for both foodies and fussy kids.

5 Day London Itinerary With Kids

pin - 5 Day London Itinerary With Kids

Days 1 – 3 as above

Covent Garden is one of London’s most popular tourist spots, and for good reason.

Covent Garden

You can watch the street performers, browse the interesting shops and markets or dine at one of the restaurants (Cafe Murano is great for kids).

The London Transport Museum is a great place for families to visit, full of interesting exhibitions and displays, and it has a play zone for kids aged 7 and under.

Have Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea has become a vital part of a visit to London.

When you’ve got kids in tow, you don’t need to miss out on this regal tradition.

The Original Sweetshop Afternoon Tea - The Chesterfield Mayfair

Many of London’s top hotels and restaurants offer afternoon tea for children, with fun themes like ‘Mad Hatters’ and ‘The Tiger Who Came to Afternoon Tea’.

We’ve got a guide to the best afternoon teas for children here.

Catch a show in London’s West End

Seeing a show is one of the most exciting ways to spend time together as a family while you’re in the city.

Classics like The Lion King will please kids and adults alike.

Mary Poppins London theatre

Or why not try newer productions like Mary Poppins and Back to the Future?

Try and book in advance so you can get your theatre tickets at a cheaper price.

Whatever your personal taste, London offers many f amily-friendly stage productions.

Hamleys Toy Store

Hamley’s at Regent Street is the world’s largest toy store, with seven sprawling floors of toys to explore.

hamleys-london

There are many activities for kids to do here, including joining Hamley’s and Hattie (the shop’s famous bears) to help them open the shop, and then take a selfie with them afterwards.

Madame Tussauds

We know that many capital cities now have one, but the very first Madame Tussauds opened in London over 180 years ago.

Since then it’s charmed many with its realistic collection of waxwork A-List celebs, superheroes, sports stars and more.

Beyonce statue at Madame Tussauds

Kids (and adults!) will love posing next to their favourite film characters like Beyonce, Yoda and Spiderman.

Kitschy but worth the trip.

Battersea Children’s Zoo

It’s hard to find a more family-friendly attraction in London than Battersea Zoo as it was created with younger ones in mind, aiming to offer a more personal experience at the zoo for families.

Battersea-Park-Zoo

Check their website for animal feeding times, as kids can experience feeding otters, meerkats or even monkeys!

We recommend taking the River Bus to Battersea Park to visit the Children’s Zoo

It’s a great way to see some of the sites on an alternative mode of transport.

If the weather is against you (always carry an umbrella; London’s reputation for rain, rain and more rain is deserved!) try one of London’s indoor playgrounds .

London’s Best Parks

If the weather is on your side, London has some fabulous, free parks with lots of family-friendly activities on offer.

Our favourites are:

  • Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
  • Victoria Park
  • The Green Park
  • Clissold Park
  • Greenwich Park
  • Hampstead Heath
  • Kensington Gardens
  • The Regent’s Park + Primrose Hill
  • Richmond Park
  • St James Park

Regents Park

These parks are great for a general walk around, a picnic (food is important to Londoners so there are supermarkets, cafes, coffee shops and takeaway spots on most streets).

Some offer rowing on their lakes, which is harder work than it sounds!

If you’re visiting in summer, pack some swimwear as London is home to some great outdoor swimming and water play areas .

Southbank fountains

London’s Best Markets

If you want to pick up something a little different, try one of London’s many markets:

Brick Lane – East London

You never know quite what you’re going to find here but that’s part of its charm.

We love the saris and genuine Indian food.

Portobello Road, Notting Hill – West London

Nothing like the film (sorry) but great for vintage finds in music, vintage, art and fruit and vegetables.

london travel vlogs

Greenwich Market – South East London

Small business owners sell a curated selection of food, clothing, beauty, art and homewares.

greenwich-market

The market owners are very fussy about who they allow to sell here so you can buy with confidence knowing you aren’t being ripped off or buying rubbish (South East London).

Always overflowing with tourists and locals, it’s an odd mixture of everything.

Maybe not the best advert for London but worth a visit nonetheless.

11 best things to do in London

Immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of England's capital—from a coveted cabaret bar to one of the city's best curry restaurants.

Night scene with passers-by in front of City Hall with a view of the City of London skyline.

Beyond the London Eye, Tower of London, and Buckingham Palace, London has a long list of bygone treasures certain to pique the interest of every type of traveler. Deciding the best things to do and see can be a daunting task, but we’re making it a little easier for you. Here’s are the top things to do in London, specifically not-to-be-missed experiences that make the city so enticing

Explore history and drama at the Sir John Soane’s Museum

Visitor Assistant Jonty Stern poses in The Picture Room of The Sir John Soanes Museum in London.

Before the streaming TV series “Bridgerton”, there was   Sir John Soane’s Museum , a Regency townhouse preserved much how the namesake architect left it in 1837. A classics nut and passionate collector, Soane furnished every square inch with art,   antiquités   and his own remarkable drawings. Visitors shouldn’t leave without seeing the portrait of   Nora Brickenden   hanging in his dressing room. “Soane, always susceptible to flattery and attention from women, was superficially ensnared by the impressionable vicar's daughter from Hereford,” says Gillian Darley, historian and author of the biography, “John Soane: An Accidental Romantic”. The famous architect and Brickenden were spotted together in 1813, while Soane’s wife Eliza was away in the country. To learn how it panned out, take the   Highlights tour , offered daily at noon.

Find your tribe in Hampstead Heath

Few wanderers would consider jumping in a beech-shaded pond in a wild, secluded corner of   Hampstead Heath . And yet for a century, artists, poets, musicians and LGBTQ+ Londoners have bonded in the chilly depths of the   Kenwood Ladies’   Bathing Pond   –   Europe’s only natural swimming pond for women.   “Swimming here through the year provides an extraordinary connection with the changing seasons,” says Nicky Mayhew, a longtime wild swimmer from Hampstead.   “For many of us, it’s a form of meditation.” Its purity and body-positivity have even inspired some regulars to wax lyrical for the essay collection   At the Pond .

Embark on a sailing adventure to Little Venice

People relax on one of the houseboats on the Grand Union Canal at Little Venice, London.

A willow-shaded sanctuary for waterfowl and hobby fishermen, the Regent’s Canal was a major thoroughfare when it opened 200 years ago as a shortcut to the Thames. And the leafy pedestrian towpath was trod by ponies hauling merchant narrowboats.   “You can still spot evidence of a 1874 explosion under Macclesfield Bridge, caused by a boat carrying gunpowder and leaking petrol fumes,” says Martin Sach, chair of the   London Canal Museum . His bucolic narrowboat cruises depart Fridays from the museum’s charming location in a former icehouse and sail to the residential enclave of Little Venice, passing the bridge en route.

Flex your cycling skills on this Olympic track

To Londoners, it’s known as “The Pringle” because of its potato-chip shape. However, the   Lee Valley VeloPark , built for the 2012 Olympic Games, is a serious landmark, designed with input from   gold-medal Olympian Chris Hoy   to be efficient and lightweight, like a racing bike. Since then, welcoming cyclists of all levels has been part of the neighborhood mandate, building on what’s become a major cultural quarter. Newcomers can learn BMX or mountain bike skills, or race on the undulating course with high-end rental bikes. Entry fees are subsidized, so you may be able to stretch your budget to include a swim at the   Aquatics Centre .

Satiate your hunger for authentic curry

In London, some curry houses serve only English-invented dishes such as tikka masala. Others are suitable only after the pub, and a few greats have earned lifelong fans. “I’ve been going to   Rasa   since I was a kid – and, more importantly, when I used to be vegetarian,” says Leonie Cooper, food and drink editor of “Time Out London”. The hot pink-painted shoebox on Stoke Newington Church Street serves dishes from India’s Kerala region –   creamy, meatless, and refreshingly light, according to Cooper. “For the   b agar   baingan , aubergines are made into a paste before being mixed with yogurt and a cashew sauce. Deeply savory.” Those who try it will never eat tikka again.

Explore a secret tropical garden

People lounge in chairs at the Barbican Centre Conservatory surrounded by plants.

Most people wouldn’t expect to see a Victorian greenhouse in Brutalist landmark like the Barbican Centre. In fact you won’t see it at all unless you bypass the concert hall, theatres, art galleries and Champagne bar for the massive top-floor   Conservatory   with its 1,500 tropical plants. A new mission to “activate” the space for contemporary art has spurred artists to experiment. “Installations across the greenhouse encourage people to spend time, slow down, observe,” says Shanay Jhaveri, Barbican’s head of visual arts. Open Friday evenings and Sundays only, it’s still something of a secret –   and a weather-proof alternative to Kew Gardens.

Uncover a classic pub’s hidden history

While lesser pubs close their doors,   Ye Olde Mitre   thrives, serving cozy Elizabethan lore alongside Kent Golding Bitter, a local malt drawn from ancient wood casks. If you’re lucky enough to find its narrow passage marked 1546, you’ll pass the fossilized cherry tree a certain Virgin Queen danced around. “There’s a sense of magic in its concealed location,” says John Warland, a pub maven who gave it star billing in his book “Hidden Pubs of London”. “People love being in on the secret.” The landlady lives above the shop and makes certain all feel welcome… for the price of a pint. But plan well because the Mitre closes on weekends.

Let them entertain you at Cockatoo cabaret

East End celebs popped in regularly for garlic-caramel roast chicken after the ‘industrial chic’ Bistrotheque opened in 2004. But   the Cockatoo   piano bar downstairs might be its most dazzling legacy, making stars of cabaret queens like   Robyn Herfellow , who insists, “It’s chic, but the place doesn’t forget its roots – the crockery is clean but the cabaret can still get pretty filthy.”

According to new headliner   Don One , “You always get a few people who are new to seeing drag kings, and it feels like a great opportunity to introduce them to something new. As a singer who incorporates comedy into my performance, I move around the space interacting with the crowd, and everyone loves me.”

Climb the sacred dome of a famous cathedra l

If anything can top the view of St. Paul’s enchanting dome, it’s the so-called BBC view from the third-floor triforium, where the press filmed Charles and Di’s wedding. The   Triforium Tour   leads up a floating spiral staircase into the depths of the dome. “There’s a door you can pop your head out, step out onto the balcony, and look up – and you’re right underneath the mosaics, glittering in the light,” says Sandra Lynes Timbrel, director of visitor engagement. It continues into a library that features the first English-language bible, then to the nave: “That’s the money shot,” says Lynes Timbrel. From this unique vantage point, visitors get a sweeping view of the cathedral high above the people below. Architect Christopher Wren’s original scale model is located here, too. “It’s a bit of a squeeze to walk inside, but it draws an audible gasp when people walk in the room. David Bowie came in the last year of his life just to see it.”

Walk down to Electric Avenue

Shoppers at Brixton Market on Electric Avenue, Lambeth, London.

Brixton commuters get an eyeful of art as soon as they reach the train platform, where bronze statues, created in 1986, immortalize eight   local   residents. “They were the earliest identifiably Black portraits in England,” says   Kelly Foster , a longtime guide and fifth-generation resident of this Afro-Caribbean community. While her walks cover heritage highlights, like oral histories and activist art from the   Black Cultural Archives , she’s also an authority on Jamaican delights. Through Electric Avenue –   yes,   that   Electric Avenue – you’ll find   Etta’s Seafood , “where you can choose what fish Etta cooks for you.” Carry on to   The   Effra   Hall   Tavern   – it has a great jazz session on Thursdays,   a cross between Jamaican and be-bop that originated in 1960s London.

Catch a free show on the South Bank

From afar, the   Brutalist landmarks   known collectively as the   South Bank   might seem foreboding. Only when you stroll past them on the promenade do you understand what the hype is really all about. Street jazz, performance art, madcap skateboarders, an interactive water feature designed   by artist Jeppe Hein, and   the year-long calendar of free events guarantee no dull moments are had on this bend in the Thames. High points are the toddy-fueled   Winter Festival   and June’s   Meltdown , when a chosen artist (Chaka Khan, Grace Jones, David Byrne) curates a 10-day live music spectacle.
