One of my favourite parts of being a travel blogger is showcasing my home city via my blog. I mean, I adore travelling the world, but where do I know better than the city I live in?

I’ve built up lots of London travel guides on my blog, sharing my favourite quirky things to do in the city, where to eat , and some weird and wonderful places to stay too.

First time visitors should tick off the obvious sights like Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Tower Bridge, Hyde Park, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament. You’ll probably go on a free walking tour to see a few other sights too. But… after you’ve seen the obvious ‘in every movie about London’ landmarks, where’s next?

Well that’s where I come in! Once you’ve seen the top sights in Central London, it’s time to go local. Why not catch the tube north to beautiful, leafy Hampstead and mooch around Hampstead Heath or grab a bite to eat in one of the area’s characterful pubs?

How about heading west to Shepherd’s Bush , one of London’s vibrant areas, and enjoying neon crazy golf, tasty local food and some unique entertainment?

When Is The Best Time To Visit London?

England is a country obsessed with weather. Don’t know what to say? Comment on the weather! Us Brits talk about it a lot, but contrary to what you may have heard, we don’t have awful weather in London. It’s just a little unpredictable and varies from region to region.

You can expect average lows of around 5 °C in London in January / February, and highs around 25°C in July / August.

If you’re wondering when is the best time to visit England, I’d suggest planning a trip in May or June. The weather tends to be warm and sunny, rain is at a minimum and it’s out of peak season, so you shouldn’t be battling any big crowds either. The longest day is around 20th June every year, so it’s a time you can enjoy maximum daylight hours exploring!

I’ve never been a fan of November in London. It’s the wettest month of the year, and while December can be pretty cold, there’s a Christmas magic in London which always puts a smile on my face!

If you’ve ever heard of Big Ben Clock Tower at Palace of Westminster, have been fascinated by the romantic works of the great writer William Shakespeare. The capital of England is a so famous city already. Located in the southeast and quite close to France, London is quite large and known for its cultural and historical values. You should spend at least 3-4 days to explore this wonderful city, of course the longer the better.

UK in general and London in particular, to get here you have to apply for a separate visa because the UK is not in the Schengen Area. The UK visa application is similar to the Schengen visa application, but it seems to be more paperwork and procedures.

London travel blog: How to get to London?

Fly from vietnam to london.

Currently, there are many airlines operating direct flights from Hanoi / Ho Chi Minh City to London. These include Qatar Airways , Emirates , or Vietnam Airlines , most of which do not fly directly, but you have to transit at least once. Ticket prices fluctuate around $ 1.000/round trip.

If you go to London from other cities in Europe, the popular way is fly because London does not have borders adjacent to the rest of the old continent of Europe. However, if you go from Paris to London , you can take a train because there is a tunnel through the Manche strait (English Channel, Channel Tunnel) that connects England and France. The cheapest train fares to London or other cities in the UK from € 45, can be booked through www.eurostar.com or www.loco2.com .

How to travel from Heathrow Airport to central London?

By london underground (london tube).

This is the easiest and cheapest way to get from Heathrow airport to London city center. The train operates 24/24 on Friday, Saturday from Terminals 1, 2, 3 & Terminal 5. On weekdays the train operating hours from 5:10am and the last train at 11:45pm.

Ticket price of £ 5.10/trip during peak hours and £ 3.10/trip for the remaining hours. You should buy an London Oyster Visitor Card with the price of $25 at the airport, the traveling time to get to London center about 50 minutes and from here you can change trains to get to where you want.

If you arrive late at night on weekdays, then London Tube does not work, you may consider another option is to go to the city by night bus. Bus N9 departs from Terminal 5 and Central Bus Station (Terminals 2 & 3).

The bus departs from around midnight at 11:30pm, the fare is only £ 1.50 / way but cannot be paid with cash, you must use a contactless card or an Oyster card.

By Airport Express Train

There are two main types of trains going to central London: Heathrow Express and TfL Rail. The Heathrow Express run faster and takes only 15 minutes to get to London Paddington station, the TfL train takes 25 minutes because it will stops at some stations along the way.

Heathrow Express Ticket

Tickets cost only £ 5.50/trip if you book in advance, and if you buy on the day of travel, the price is up to £ 22/trip. You can use Trainline.com to reserve tickets in advance.

Prices range from £ 45 – £ 70, and take about 45-90 minutes because the traffic is quite crowded in London.

London travel guide blog: Getting around the city

Like most other big cities in Europe, London has a developed and diverse public transport system. London’s Metro network – London Underground, also known as “the Tube”, is spread across the city so you can traveling around the city as quickly and conveniently as possible.

The whole city is connected by 11 Tube lines, and divided into 9 zones. The central area is zone 1 and zones 6-9 are located at the edge of the city. The useful tip when traveling in London is that you should buy an Oyster Card which like a credit card and use the money in that account to buy tickets, quite similar to the MRT card in Singapore or Seoul. Oyster Card can be used when taking bus, tram and railways in the city.

The fare for each route depends on the zone and the distance you want to go. The longer the journey, the more expensive. Buying Oyster card is always cheaper than buying single ticket, unless you only go one or two trips during the time you stay in London.

Note that not every Metro station has an elevator, so if you bring a lot of luggage, you need to consider, pretty heavy when have to carry it. My trip to London blog: Where to stay?

The art of travel has changed beyond all recognition in the past few years. What once cost a fortune and took weeks of planning can now be documented on a phone and by booking a flight on the way to the airport. Here’s a selection of YouTube’s finest travel channels and vlogs that showcase the creativity the new medium opens up to all of us.

Travel stories have been shared orally from the earliest days of humanity. Yarns of great adventure may have been embellished with the occasional sea monster and one-eyed giant, but even these fanciful accounts had some basis in reality. Journals by explorers were hugely popular with the general public soon after the introduction of mass transit, revealing treasures such as Ancient Egypt and other global wonders.

Travel books, high-quality photography and newspaper accounts soon followed, before TV took over and brought incredible sights into living rooms around the world. People who never thought they would experience the magic of travel for themselves were now given the urge to explore, and so a boom in the tourism industry followed.

Today, thanks to the proliferation of online travel, you can see the world with the simple click of a button.

Migrationology with Mark Wiens

If any two things work better together on YouTube than food and travel, we have yet to discover them. Mark Wiens has cultivated a huge following online, and it’s easy to see why. His love of food and willingness to hurl himself into every challenge is infectious. While perhaps not for travel purists, Migrationology is still one of the most informative channels to follow on the platform.

Eva zu Beck

Once of this parish, Eva zu Beck is now among the most popular personalities on the travel circuit. Her videos often feature the places we rarely see covered by mainstream media, making her insightful look at the world particularly welcome. Eva’s rise to fame began with a couple of early videos going viral in Pakistan, and she hasn’t looked back since.

The Budgeteers

A trio of friends from different parts of the world make up The Budgeteers, and they have stumbled across a winning formula – fun, enlightening and easy-to-follow trips that appeal to everyone with limited funds. The only problem these vloggers face is that they are prone to becoming victims of their own success. Every step away from the “budget” concept seems to be a massive misstep, thrusting them back into the clutches of sponsors and brands eager to capitalise on their unique skills. This is one team that we want to see less of as their format works best in periodical doses.

Fearless and Far

Marine biology graduate Mike Corey prides himself on taking on the more extreme side of travel through his online adventures. Not all of his choices are worth recommending, as some border on unethical. However, when he gets it right, he really gets it right. The slick production values on his videos are incredibly planned out, making Mike an easy watch.

Drew Binsky

Boasting over 1 billion video views and 5 million followers on social media, Drew Binksy has been championed by several brands in the relatively short time he has been a professional travel blogger. His ultimate aim is to visit every country in the world – something he was so close to doing before the coronavirus outbreak. We’re sure his adventures will continue again soon, and in the meantime, he can keep perfecting his golf swing, a sport he regularly partakes in when travelling.

Shizuka’s Food Adventures in Japan

Part of the wider byfood.com network, this series serves as a treat for lovers of everything Japanese. The main focus is the country’s culinary delights, but host Shizuka Anderson clearly has a flair for travel blogging, too. Describing herself as a Tokyoite, the presenter ends up discovering places that would light up any Instagram feed. It’s one to check out if you’re in need of improving your social media game.

Chas Bruns fully embraces the thrifty lifestyle he espouses in this vlog all about the virtues of penny-pinching. Chas hunts out the cheapest experiences and holidays he can, sharing his tips with viewers. This series might not be the most polished one on this list, but it’s arguably the most useful.

FunForLouis

Thankfully, FunForLouis is also fun for the rest of us. This adventurous travel expert might initially appear like the stereotypical travel dude we all want to avoid on holiday, but he’s actually developed a keen eye for the unexpected. Louis is a great host who is at his best when taking off on his own with only a small camera for company.

100 Countries with Kara and Nate

Travel couples are probably the most annoying people across social media. There’s a delicate balancing act between being overly smug and privileged and genuinely engaging and informative, but Kara and Nate just about get it right. Their goal of visiting 100 countries by 2020 has now been achieved, so we do wonder if the pair will be slowing down, especially given how difficult it is to travel at the moment.

Vagabrothers

The high levels of production employed by Marko and Alex, two wanderlust-fuelled brothers, help elevate their channel to another level. Each destination they visit gets the documentary-style treatment, and their videos are all the better for it.

Tourist 2 Townie

If you’re interested in what it’s like to live in a country, then Gareth Leonard’s deeper approach to travel is for you. The flashy, short-form videos that other vloggers aim for really aren’t worth your time if you want to explore a new place with someone keen on expanding cultural horizons. Gareth takes his time with each piece of content and delivers a series that will make you want to learn more before you travel.

Another great vlog with a strong emphasis on food is Miss Mina, hosted by the eponymous Mina Oh. This particular channel is about global travel, whereas a more popular incarnation – Sweet and Tasty TV – hones in on Korean culture. Both are riveting in their own way, although food videos are definitely the strong point throughout.

Wolters World

This honest travel vlog is packed full of practical tips and helpful information. Making viral content doesn’t appear to be at the forefront of Mark Wolters’ thinking, as he and his family explore the world. It all started from one travel let-down and has now blossomed into a wonderfully helpful resource.

PsychoTraveller

Don’t be put off by the rather disturbing name of the vlog – Aly (who is a psychology graduate from England) is actually a great host and guide. Aly is so good that she’s self-published a book to help others looking to travel to some of the many places she has visited.

Phil Good Travel

We’ve previously lamented the lack of diversity when it comes to travel shows on TV , and sadly, the same is also true for vlogging. One man making a real change is Phil of Philwaukee fame, who has teamed up with the Matador Network for this series. It’s fun, full of positive vibes and something we really want to see more of.

Jumping into a vintage Volkswagen (VW) van and driving off into the sunset is the stuff teenage dreams are made of. It’s also the reality that this vlog follows, as two intrepid travellers aim to go off the grid and find their own adventures around the world. VW vans apparently have different nicknames depending on where you are – for Brits, they are known as camper vans, while Americans call them buses. Kombi is the most popular term with the rest of the world.

Jenny J Zhou

Originally from Australia and now settling into the Los Angeles lifestyle by way of a significant stay in Shanghai, Jenny Zhou’s career is just as fascinating as her travel content. There are some great on-location videos on her channel, but as Jenny attempts to make it in the acting world, we wonder how many more travel videos we’ll get. There’s still plenty to explore in the vlogger’s back catalogue though, and her Shanghai films, in particular, make for fun viewing.

I feel like we don’t get the recognition or klout of our American friends who shout their successes from the rooftops.

So, I’m here to highlight some of the best UK travel blogs for you to plan your trip by. Let’s look at the best travel blogs, UK style. Think of this as my travel blog awards, to the best UK travel bloggers (IMO).

There are a few other lists out there, featuring the best UK travel influencers , but I’ve met almost each and every one of these British travel bloggers personally. I can totally vouch for their skills, their personalities and their outlook, AND their dedication.

This article will introduce you to some of the top UK travel blogs. Whether you’re looking for UK travel bloggers to follow, work with or keep an eye on – these are the best.

I first met Helen at a travel blogging conference in Dublin and by the end of our first drink together we had a mutual appreciation for one another. That shouldn’t sound weird if it does.

Helen used to work at Kelloggs but wasn’t responsible for the Choco Krispies / Coco Pops renaming debacle, which was my first question.

Now she runs tours in Africa with her company Rock My Adventure Tours , and lives there half of the year. Her travel blog Helen in Wonderlust , is the leading course of info on backpacking Africa. I’ve also travelled to Malawi, Zimbabwe and Zambia with Helen, and most recently, went camping in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland with her.

Emily is great fun and one of my favourite travel bloggers to travel with. She’s an excellent photographer and writer, and loves to get the most out of every trip she goes on. She’s so passionate about travel and often goes off on multi-month adventures, most recently to Central America.

Emily Luxton Travels claims she’s a shy girl who found herself travelling, but usually when I see her she’ll be making friends with a glass of wine in her hand. And I see her quite a lot as we’ve lived together for three years now. We’ve had a lot of adventures together – including paddle boarding in Hampshire , in Trentino and in Chang Mai in Thailand too.

Dan is absolutely one of my favourite travel buddies and UK bloggers. His photography is incredible and I love the videos he makes too.

Dan lives in Portugal and the UK, in between jetting off around the world. He loves a goat, an adventure, and an opportunity to try something new.

Last year we went skiing for the first time , for him, and although it didn’t go to plan, he stayed positive and did what he does best instead – took photos and made a video.

Me and Jen go way back, in travel blogger terms. Now she’s one of my favourite people in the UK travel blogger world – we’ve had some great times in London, Porto and Brighton at various conferences.

She’s all about the volunteering, and the dating, and is a great person to talk to to chew the fat with too.

We had a great summer trip sailing in Croatia one year, and she’s another one in the Glastonbury crew .

Monica is brilliant, and one of the UK’s top travel bloggers. She’s got three beautiful children and life up in Chester somewhere and one of those French bulldog dogs that people like too.

Her top UK blog all about the stylish travel and I don’t know anyone who enjoys Twitter chats more than her. We used to work together in social media what seems like an age ago, but now we just talk a lot on Facebook Messenger instead.

She has one of the best blogs UK has to offer.

We’ve been to the Florida Keys together , to Levi in Finland and many, many UK travel blogger conferences too.

I just went on her blog to find her social media details and for her latest post she’s photoshopped her face onto someone holding a koala. That’s just the way she rolls over on The Cosy Traveller.

Emily is definitely one of my favourite UK travel bloggers.

Anyway, her blog is awesome and she’s an ambassador for Lonely Planet and Visit England, and probably other stuff I don’t know about too. She used to work as a producer with Emma Bunton – Baby Spice!

10. Macca Sherifi from An Adventurous World

Macca and I used to work together too, with Monica. Oh the FUN we had. He’s a good friend, and I especially enjoy his company after we’ve both had a little drinky drinky.

Last time I went out with him he was singing McFly songs at full volume at the bar. As for being a blogger, he’s super passionate about his work, and seeing the world. His photography and video skills are amazing. He’s one of the top UK travel vloggers.

We haven’t ever actually travelled together – need to rectify that.

Lloyd and Yaya were crowned Vuelio’s Travel Bloggers of the Year in 2017 & 18 . Meaning, they’ve actually got the highest views of any travel blogger in the UK. Their blog is AMAZING. It’s the fun and the photography that makes it so good.

They’re two of the best people I know and after our awesome weekend in Hamburg together, I just think they’re both brilliant. They deserve every success they have. Think they should probably sit down and take a rest though – travel much?

Jess looks incredible wherever she goes and whatever she does. I love seeing what she’s wearing around the world – pretty sure her Canada trip was some of her best outfits.

Her UK blog isn’t just all about fashion though, her travel tips for England, Europe, the US and her Asian adventures will help you travel in style. Jess has just welcomed her son Theo into the world and I’m so excited to see her embrace their journeys together.

I love Shu. She’s a ball of energy and fun, yet really knows her stuff when it comes to travel and food too. I’ve learned a lot from her, especially about air fryers.

Shu doesn’t actually have a blog, as she’s a YouTuber and Instagrammer but I couldn’t write a list of the best UK travel influencers without her. She’s also a BBC star with a documentary about Chinese food in England that you need to check out.

As one of the most well known and experienced on this list of UK based travel bloggers Abi has been featured in the likes of Grazia, Conde Nast, the BBC and Stylist Magazine. Ooo, the blogger did good. And once upon a time she was a doctor, which explains all the ‘lab’ influence. Just realised she’d be a great person to go on a press trip with, what with all that medical knowledge.

Lavina has so much passion for travel and energy for life, she’s a total joy to be around. Love seeing her at a travel conference or meet up!

She works full time as a business analyst but has still worked out a way to visit 46 countries, including camping in the Sahara and haggling in the Marrakesh souks. Paul is a straight talking Manc who knows how to make a beautiful video. His site is a platform for all bloggers to submit content with him looking over it all. It was actually on here that I wrote my first guest post, under the ‘VickyFlipFlop’ guise.

Paul is also responsible for the awesome Traverse events, along with Micheal Ball too.

Interesting fact for you; I once threw a caipirinha in his face after a misunderstanding. He’s never let me forget it (definitely deserved it).

He recently, actually I think it was a while ago now, did the 24 Peaks Challenge in 24 hours to raise money for a charity close to his heart. He’s one of my absolute favourite English travel bloggers, although I feel like I’m saying that about everyone now.

Sophie has a few different projects in the pipeline (don’t we all) but she’s best known for her trainspotting and her love of death tourism. Yes. Known across all the social media as ‘SophonTrack’ Sophie will do all she can to avoid taking a plane anywhere – very eco, well done.

She also runs the TravelDarkly site with a friend which focuses on this strange obsession people seem to have with visiting devastation sites. From haunted pubs to old operating theatre museums, she’ll have covered it.

Flora is one of life’s good people. She’s so lovely and travels in a way that reflects what’s important to her. I was gripped as she travelled South America, learning Spanish and meeting people as she explored. She’s now based in London and is planning on walking the Camino de Santiago this year.

As well as being one of the top British travel bloggers Flora is also an author – I’ve read the Adult Orphan Club , and although it’s super sad and I dread the day I’ll actually need to read it again, it’s a super useful resource for anyone who’s lost their parents.

Victoria has been travelling and blogging since 2008, making her one of the more veteran UK travel bloggers on the list.

Bit jealous that she’s been travelling ever since she finished university – good on her. She’s well into her YouTube channel and I’ve spent the last 30 minutes catching up with the last few weeks. I enjoy the comments about her accent – love a northerner.

She has one of the best UK travel sites on the internet.

The Changing of the Guards takes place from 10.45 am daily, which you can view from outside the Palace forecourt.

There is a playground on the southwest corner of St James Park that you can take the kids to whilst you’re waiting for the Changing of The Guard.

Greenwich Market – South East London

Small business owners sell a curated selection of food, clothing, beauty, art and homewares.

The market owners are very fussy about who they allow to sell here so you can buy with confidence knowing you aren’t being ripped off or buying rubbish (South East London).

You’re also close to the delights of Greenwich .

Spitalfields Market – East London

A short walk from Shoreditch station, you can find everything here – food, fashion, art, vintage, beauty.

It’s not the cheapest market but it’s one of the most unique.

Camden Market – North London

Always overflowing with tourists and locals, it’s an odd mixture of everything.

Maybe not the best advert for London but worth a visit nonetheless.

Broadway Market – East London

Fabulous food, fashion and furniture.

Expect the weird and wonderful.

Before the streaming TV series “Bridgerton”, there was Sir John Soane’s Museum , a Regency townhouse preserved much how the namesake architect left it in 1837. A classics nut and passionate collector, Soane furnished every square inch with art, antiquités and his own remarkable drawings. Visitors shouldn’t leave without seeing the portrait of Nora Brickenden hanging in his dressing room. “Soane, always susceptible to flattery and attention from women, was superficially ensnared by the impressionable vicar's daughter from Hereford,” says Gillian Darley, historian and author of the biography, “John Soane: An Accidental Romantic”. The famous architect and Brickenden were spotted together in 1813, while Soane’s wife Eliza was away in the country. To learn how it panned out, take the Highlights tour , offered daily at noon.

Most people wouldn’t expect to see a Victorian greenhouse in Brutalist landmark like the Barbican Centre. In fact you won’t see it at all unless you bypass the concert hall, theatres, art galleries and Champagne bar for the massive top-floor Conservatory with its 1,500 tropical plants. A new mission to “activate” the space for contemporary art has spurred artists to experiment. “Installations across the greenhouse encourage people to spend time, slow down, observe,” says Shanay Jhaveri, Barbican’s head of visual arts. Open Friday evenings and Sundays only, it’s still something of a secret – and a weather-proof alternative to Kew Gardens.

Uncover a classic pub’s hidden history

While lesser pubs close their doors, Ye Olde Mitre thrives, serving cozy Elizabethan lore alongside Kent Golding Bitter, a local malt drawn from ancient wood casks. If you’re lucky enough to find its narrow passage marked 1546, you’ll pass the fossilized cherry tree a certain Virgin Queen danced around. “There’s a sense of magic in its concealed location,” says John Warland, a pub maven who gave it star billing in his book “Hidden Pubs of London”. “People love being in on the secret.” The landlady lives above the shop and makes certain all feel welcome… for the price of a pint. But plan well because the Mitre closes on weekends.

Let them entertain you at Cockatoo cabaret

East End celebs popped in regularly for garlic-caramel roast chicken after the ‘industrial chic’ Bistrotheque opened in 2004. But the Cockatoo piano bar downstairs might be its most dazzling legacy, making stars of cabaret queens like Robyn Herfellow , who insists, “It’s chic, but the place doesn’t forget its roots – the crockery is clean but the cabaret can still get pretty filthy.”

According to new headliner Don One , “You always get a few people who are new to seeing drag kings, and it feels like a great opportunity to introduce them to something new. As a singer who incorporates comedy into my performance, I move around the space interacting with the crowd, and everyone loves me.”

Climb the sacred dome of a famous cathedra l

If anything can top the view of St. Paul’s enchanting dome, it’s the so-called BBC view from the third-floor triforium, where the press filmed Charles and Di’s wedding. The Triforium Tour leads up a floating spiral staircase into the depths of the dome. “There’s a door you can pop your head out, step out onto the balcony, and look up – and you’re right underneath the mosaics, glittering in the light,” says Sandra Lynes Timbrel, director of visitor engagement. It continues into a library that features the first English-language bible, then to the nave: “That’s the money shot,” says Lynes Timbrel. From this unique vantage point, visitors get a sweeping view of the cathedral high above the people below. Architect Christopher Wren’s original scale model is located here, too. “It’s a bit of a squeeze to walk inside, but it draws an audible gasp when people walk in the room. David Bowie came in the last year of his life just to see it.”

Walk down to Electric Avenue

Brixton commuters get an eyeful of art as soon as they reach the train platform, where bronze statues, created in 1986, immortalize eight local residents. “They were the earliest identifiably Black portraits in England,” says Kelly Foster , a longtime guide and fifth-generation resident of this Afro-Caribbean community. While her walks cover heritage highlights, like oral histories and activist art from the Black Cultural Archives , she’s also an authority on Jamaican delights. Through Electric Avenue – yes, that Electric Avenue – you’ll find Etta’s Seafood , “where you can choose what fish Etta cooks for you.” Carry on to The Effra Hall Tavern – it has a great jazz session on Thursdays, a cross between Jamaican and be-bop that originated in 1960s London.

Catch a free show on the South Bank

From afar, the Brutalist landmarks known collectively as the South Bank might seem foreboding. Only when you stroll past them on the promenade do you understand what the hype is really all about. Street jazz, performance art, madcap skateboarders, an interactive water feature designed by artist Jeppe Hein, and the year-long calendar of free events guarantee no dull moments are had on this bend in the Thames. High points are the toddy-fueled Winter Festival and June’s Meltdown , when a chosen artist (Chaka Khan, Grace Jones, David Byrne) curates a 10-day live music spectacle.
