Steve Vai Reschedules Massive 2022 U.S. Tour

TOUR UPDATE: Steve Vai has pushed back his 2022 tour plans into the latter half of the year. Posting on his socials, his statement read : "Steve Vai has postponed his planned tour of North America until the Fall. The first U.S. leg of dates will now begin on Wednesday, September 28 in El Cajon, CA and wrap the first week of December. The itinerary will now feature performances in 52 markets as opposed to the initial plan of staging 54 shows. All ticket and VIP purchases will be honored for the rescheduled date. Vai’s performance in Atlanta, GA will now take place at the Variety Playhouse instead of The Eastern and due to scheduling conflicts, the Milwaukee, WI and Billings, MT shows will no longer be a part of the tour."

"Approximately one year ago, Vai underwent shoulder surgery to repair an injury. That procedure was successful, enabling him to record the upcoming studio album release of Inviolate (Favored Nations / Mascot Label Group). In preparing for the tour, it became clear that a new injury emerged that requires another surgery prohibiting the tour to be staged as announced. Vai shares, “I’m gutted that we have to move this tour, but I also know it’s in the best interests for us and the fans that we do.”

Guitar great Steve Vai  has postponed his 2022 U.S. tour so he can undergo yet another surgery.

The "Inviolate World Tour" was scheduled to kick off Jan. 27 at the House of Blues in Las Vegas with Vai covering the U.S. before circling back home to an April 2 finale at The Theatre at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles. He will now begin the tour Sept. 28 in El Cajon, California and loop the country until finishing up Dec. 3 in Los Angeles. Vai’s performance in Atlanta, Georgia will now take place at the Variety Playhouse instead of The Eastern and due to scheduling conflicts, the Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Billings, Montana shows will no longer be a part of the tour.

“I’m gutted that we have to move this tour, but I also know it’s in the best interests for us and the fans that we do," says Vai.

The tour comes as Vai has been using the pandemic downtime to work on a new studio album. At present, the record release has not been announced, but those details will be coming soon. The run will also feature Vai playing alongside his ensemble members of Dave Weiner (guitar / keys), Philip Bynoe (bass) and Jeremy Colson (drums).

Speaking about the lengthy run, Vai shares, “A performer thrives on performing. It’s been my life for the past 49 years, with the exception of the last two years, so we are chomping at the bit to get out there and play for people. A music concert has the ability to dissolve the many challenges we face, and celebrate one of the good things in life, live music.”

In addition to a new album, Vai has been using the downtime to take care of several other things as well. He underwent shoulder and hand surgery last year, but showed he was still quite capable of playing delivering a one-handed performance of a new song called "Knappsack" that made the rounds online. He also launched a Patreon page where he's been providing viewers with a one-hour Q&A session and shared his "Alien Guitar Secrets Live" series breaking down songs from his catalog and showing viewers playing techniques. He's also taken part in the frank "Under It All: Hard Questions" series, addressing a variety of topics posed by viewers. For a $5 monthly commitment, you can catch the bonus content at his Patreon account .

For ticketing info visit Vai's website , while there are also VIP bundle options at this location . Check out all of the tour dates for the U.S. run listed below.

ADRIAN BELEW

“The 1981 through 1984 King Crimson created a music all its own. Timeless. Beautiful. Complex. Fierce. For the fans who lived through it then, and the ones who never got to witness it, our aim is to bring it to life again. A monumental task but we’re going for it!  There are not enough exclamation points to express my excitement!”

“Being a part of this ensemble is an extraordinary privilege and opportunity to perform some of the most beloved, timeless, and monumental music of the 80’s (and beyond) with truly inspired musicians. This music resonates deeply with me. Adrian, Tony and Danny are unique musicians with an otherworldly insight into presenting rich musical complexities in a very accessible way, and I am looking forward to searching each other’s musical minds in real time on stage. I’m sure sparks will fly.” He continues, “Father Robert Fripp is one of our historical geniuses. His highly specific and exceptionally brilliant guitar technique is studied and revered. His contribution to the quality of my musical life, and so many others is supreme. I can assure the fans of KC that I will be putting my best foot forward to respect this great music with the care and intensity it deserves. Did I say ‘sparks will fly?’”

“This is going to be quite a tour. Revisiting some of my favorite music is a treat in itself, but in company of this stellar lineup, I expect to have my musical butt kicked! And it’s also great that we’re not just playing a few shows, we’re hitting it hard. So, Road Dogs are coming to your area soon.”

DANNY CAREY

“I am very excited to share the stage with three of my favorite musicians on the planet. Tony, Steve and Adrian have always been a source of inspiration for me since the beginning of my career, and now to be able to share a bit of my musical journey with them is a dream come true. There’s nothing better to make some sparks fly and light a fire under your ass than getting out of your musical comfort zone, and I can’t think of any other three guys I’d rather do this with.  I think I can speak for all of us when I say I hope all of our fans are as excited as we are about this tour.”

The general on-sale will go live on September 17, 2021, with a VIP pre-sale available on September 15, 2021. For tickets visit  https://www.vai.com .  A variety of EVO Experience VIP bundles are available here:  https://www.stevevaivip.com/ . EVO Experience offerings, dependent upon tier purchased, include signed JEM Jr. guitars; an invitation to a pre-show group Q&A, meet-and-greet and photo with Steve; soundcheck viewing access; a guided tour of Steve’s instruments and gear; exclusive merchandise; commemorative VIP laminates and access to premium tickets.  This run is the first excursion of many planned which together are a multi-faceted World Tour that will bring the guitarist and composer to most continents across the globe touching down in dozens of countries. Vai has been working on a new studio album and those details will be shared imminently. These appearances will present an all-new show featuring a lot of new music, with plans for performances to be staged for the next several years.

Vai will be joined by his long-tenured ensemble members Dave Weiner (guitar / keys), Philip Bynoe (bass), and Jeremy Colson (drums).  Vai shares, “A performer thrives on performing.  It’s been my life for the past 49 years, with the exception of the last two years, so we are chomping at the bit to get out there and play for people. A music concert has the ability to dissolve the many challenges we face, and celebrate one of the good things in life, live music.”

This past April, Vai launched a Patreon page ( https://www.patreon.com/stevevai ) where he has regularly conducted exclusive one-hour question & answer sessions and more for a $5.00 monthly commitment. His on-going series “Alien Guitar Secrets Live” now premieres on Patreon, with a focus on the guitar, music, his career and the business aiming to offer insights that enlighten perspectives for their own worlds. He breaks down various songs from his catalog to show techniques, and discusses anything from writing, recording, publishing, promoting, and touring.  Additionally, the series “Under It All: Hard Questions,” enables Vai to engage in more esoteric life principles and topics where no question is off limits.  Many of his filmed interviews include his perspective on deeper subjects, and comment boards frequently allude to a broad interest in further exploration of his personal thoughts. Whether sharing detail on his observations surrounding life, the creative process, spirituality or the human condition, “UIA” delves into opinion that’s led by the free form forum.

In March, 2021, he also presented a never-before-seen performance video on his Ibanez Onyx Black PIA guitar of a new composition titled “Knappsack.”  The clip capturing him playing with one hand while recuperating from shoulder and hand surgery can be viewed here:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMjmjXHJoPg .  When launching the page, Vai shared, “The pandemic changed much of the way many of us conduct our business, especially musicians. Although live performances have been down, there have been many other ways in which communicating with the fans has exploded. With this in mind I’m excited to give more attention to online formats such as Patreon where I can communicate with those interested and offer unique items and experiences that keep us connected.”
