How to Factory Reset an RCA Tablet? [4 Working Methods]

posted on January 11, 2022

Resetting your RCA tablet makes sense if you have been facing numerous issues with the device. Be it ruminating over a hard-to-recall password or responding to the tablet that has been acting up recently, resetting is probably the best option to get it back to the original internal state.

You can consider the Soft Reset if the issues are only limited to speed and performance. However, I would recommend a Hard Reset or rather a Factory Reset if you want to get rid of all the problems, like app freezing, slow internet, overheating, and more, once and for all.

But then, you must remember that a hard or factory reset wipes out every bit of on-device data, without giving any chance to recover the same. Therefore, it is advisable to get a backup at the earliest.

Factory Reset Methods

Before you move ahead with the reset, you need to understand a few aspects. Firstly, RCA offers an exciting range of tablets, including Android and Windows-powered devices. Therefore, resetting the device while it’s turned on, depends on the type of operating system that the tablet boots.

I’ve written two methods for Android RCA Tablets and two methods for windows-based RCA devices. You can navigate using the below options:

  • Android RCA Tablet (Powered Off)
  • Android RCA Tablet (From Settings, when powered on)
  • Windows RCA Tablet (Powered Off)
  • Windows RCA tablet (Powered on)

Method 1: Android Tablet: Powered-Off

Prerequisite : Ensure that the RCA tablet is switched off and every accessory is unplugged or taken out, including the SD card.

Step 1: Switch off the tablet

If you find it hard to switch the tablet off via the conventional, on-screen instructions, there is a reset button at the back to do exactly the same. Remember that thhis button is only meant for the Soft Reset.

Reset button on RCA tablet

Step 2: Boot into recovery mode

Once the tablet is off, wait for a few seconds and then hold the power button and the Volume Up (+) key, simultaneously.

While you can find the power key adhered to the top rim of the tablet, the Volume keys can either be at the back or on the edge, depending on the RCA tablet model.

Buttons on RCA tablet

Keep holding the mentioned buttons till the time the RCA logo is visible. Within a second or two, you would be redirected to the Android Bot interface that comes with the caution symbol and takes you to the recovery menu.

RCA logo on tablet

The recovery menu looks more like a standard BIOS interface with several options available for booting, updating, or managing cache partition.

BIOS interface

Once you get to the recovery menu, release the buttons immediately.

Step 3: Choose Wipe Data / Factory Reset in recovery mode

Once the command prompt lookalike interface is in front, you can scroll down to the wipe data/ factory reset version by scrolling up and down using the volume up and down keys.

Choose wipe data option

You can select the command by pressing the power button once, which then asks for a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ prompt. Choose ‘Yes’.

Select yes on command prompt

Once the confirmation page is taken care of, you will see a ‘Wiping data’ notification at the lower end of the screen. This process might take 5 to 8 seconds, depending on the data housed by the RCA tablet.

Step 4: Reboot your Device from Recovery Mode

Once you see an intimation that says ‘Data Wiped’, you will be automatically redirected to the recovery page again, with the ‘Reboot System Now’ command at the top. You need to select the same to restart the device, by clicking on the power button.

After a few seconds, you will see the startup screen pop-up and you will have the old device in front of you with the software as good as new.

 Method 2: Android Tablet: Powered-On

You can consider resetting the device even with the tablet turned on if you have minor technical glitches and cache build-up to take care of. Here are the steps that can help:

Step 1: Go to Settings and Find “Backup & Reset” tab

Unlock the device and access the settings tab, just like you would on any other android tablet. Once you scroll down the settings menu, you will find the ‘Backup & Reset’ tab.

Backup and reset option

Step 2: Click on “Reset Tablet” option.

Upon selecting the ‘Reset Tablet’ option, you would need to restart the RCA tablet, in case auto-restart isn’t turned on.

Method 3: Windows Tablet: Powered-Off

If you own a Windows-powered RCA tablet, you are in some elite company. While the Voyager series is basically meant for the Android ecosystem, you are most likely to own the Cambio 10.1. This means, it is expected that the tablet might be connected to an external keyboard, which then makes it easier to reset.

Step 1: Use the “Reset” rear panel to start soft reset.

You can simply press the ‘Reset’ button at the rear panel to simply initiate a Soft Reset of sorts, provided you can get hold of a pin to access the same.

Step 2: Turn it on using Power button + Function Key + F9

Now, you need to turn it on by clicking on the power on button and press the Function key and the F9 simultaneously and repeatedly, till you get a ‘Please Wait’ notification.

Step 3: Go to Troubleshoot & find “Reset your PC”

You would then see the ‘Troubleshoot’ menu where you need to select the ‘Reset your PC’ as the preferred command.

Reset RCA Windows tablet

Note: You can either clean a particular drive or simply remove certain files, depending on the preferences. Depending on the available data, the system might take 15 to even 60 minutes for getting the job done.

Also, the device might flash at times during the process but you need not worry and must not press any other key in the process.

Method 4: Windows Tablet: Powered-On

Once the tablet powers on, connect the same to the keyboard for accessing the controls better and faster.

Step 1: Go to Settings > Update & Security

Click on the Windows start menu and reach out to the settings. Then click on the ‘Update and Security’ option.

Update and security option

Step 2: Find the “Recovery” section to get the “Reset your PC” option.

Eventually, click on the ‘Recovery’ and you would be directed to the ‘Reset your PC’ option or the ‘Advanced Startup’ button for booting the software differently or restoring the Windows OS to its system image.

Reset RCA Windows tablet

Step 3: Reset your PC and choose the reset option according to your needs

Once you click on ‘Reset your PC’, you will be prompted to choose an option, with one asking you to keep the files upon removing apps and saved settings and the other option prompting you to cleanse the entire system at once.

Factory reset options

You can select as per preference and the device will then restart multiple times to finally bring you the original version of the OS, which came with the device.

Frequently Asked Questons

As RCA tablets are extremely affordable devices, you can expect the software to get obsolete pretty quickly. Plus, the new-age apps and programs are expected to add to the Bloatware, which in turn slows down the tablet, significantly, a problem that only Factory reset can solve.

Factory reset or hard reset doesn’t only delete the apps, files, and programs. Instead, it also cleanses the tablet of the wireless settings, Google accounts, saved formats, alarms, and wipes out every memory that device has of prior correspondence.

While a soft reset is a glorified version of a simple restart, especially for refreshing the cache memory and speeding up certain tasks, a hard reset refers to a factory reset, which wipes out every data set, housed by the RCA tablet.

Yes, factory reset is a completely safe technique to make your RCA tablet feel like its older self. However, you need to carefully follow the instructions and should not press any other key while the tablet is getting fixed.

As seen, resetting an RCA tablet to its factory settings isn’t difficult but detail-intensive. Also, once you restore the same to the factory format, you can also get hold of the apps and programs that originally came as a part of the tablet.

Regardless, you need to look at the steps carefully, depending on the state of the device and the concerned operating platform.

It will address concerns regarding data loss during the reset process, assuring readers that the subsequent sections will guide them on how to backup their data effectively.

By explaining the need to reset an RCA tablet, this section sets the stage for readers to understand the following steps and troubleshoot issues they might be facing with their device.

Backing Up Your Data Before Resetting The Device

Before proceeding with a factory reset on your RCA tablet, it is crucial to back up all your data to ensure that nothing important is lost during the process. Backing up your data serves as a safety net, allowing you to restore your files and settings once the reset is complete.

To back up your data, start by connecting your RCA tablet to a computer using a USB cable. Once connected, access the tablet’s storage from your computer and look for important files such as photos, videos, music, documents, and any other data you want to preserve. Copy these files to a designated folder on your computer.

For apps and app data, consider using a backup and restore app from the Google Play Store. These apps make it easy to create a backup of your installed apps, app data, and even system settings.

Additionally, take note of important settings, contacts, and accounts you have on your tablet. Make a list or take screenshots of these details, as it will be easier to set up your device after the reset.

By taking the time to back up your data, you can ensure a smooth and worry-free reset process while safeguarding your valuable information from being erased.

Step-by-step Guide To Factory Reset An RCA Tablet

Resetting an RCA tablet can be a useful solution when your device is experiencing performance issues or if you are planning to pass it on to someone else. Follow these simple steps to factory reset your RCA tablet:

1. Turn off your RCA tablet by pressing and holding the power button until the device powers down completely. 2. Press and hold both the volume up (+) button and the power button simultaneously. Hold them until the RCA logo appears on the screen. 3. Release the buttons and wait for the Android System Recovery menu to appear. This menu can usually be navigated using the volume buttons, so use them to highlight the “wipe data/factory reset” option and press the power button to select it. 4. A confirmation screen will appear, asking if you want to delete all user data. Again, use the volume buttons to highlight “Yes” and press the power button to confirm. 5. Wait for the process to complete. Once finished, the recovery menu will reappear. 6. Highlight the “reboot system now” option and press the power button to restart your tablet. 7. Your RCA tablet will now have been restored to its original factory settings.

Remember to back up your important data before performing a factory reset, as this process will erase everything on your device.

Troubleshooting Common Issues During The Reset Process

During the reset process of an RCA tablet, users may encounter some common issues that can hinder the successful restoration of the device. Understanding and troubleshooting these problems can save time and ensure a smooth reset experience.

One common issue is the tablet freezing or becoming unresponsive during the reset. To resolve this, users can try performing a hard reset by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds until the device restarts. If the tablet still freezes, it may be necessary to contact RCA support for further assistance.

Another issue that can occur is the tablet not recognizing the reset command or not entering recovery mode. In such cases, users can try different combinations of buttons to access the recovery menu or consult the tablet’s user manual for specific instructions. It is also crucial to ensure that the tablet has sufficient battery power before attempting a reset.

Occasionally, users may encounter errors or glitches after the reset process. In such situations, performing a factory reset using the tablet’s settings menu, rather than relying on button combinations, can help overcome these issues. However, it is important to back up important data before initiating this process, as it will erase all personal files and settings.

By addressing these common issues and troubleshooting them effectively, users can successfully reset their RCA tablets and restore them to their original settings.

Restoring Your RCA Tablet To Its Original Settings

5. Personalize your device: Now that your apps are installed, customize your device settings such as wallpaper, screen lock, notification sounds, and more. Navigate to “Settings” and explore various options to personalize your RCA tablet according to your taste.

How to Reset RCA Tablet – An Easy Guide to Bring it Back on Track

Whether your device has been showing a static screen for hours or you just want to set it to default settings to make it as good as new, the easiest solution is a reset. Unless your device has gone through major physical damages, you don’t need to take it to a shop for repair.

A lot of minor issues can be solved with a simple reset. Most people don’t know this and hence, don’t even try. You can follow these few easy steps and learn how to reset your RCA tablet at home.

Before You Start

Firstly, all glitches don’t require a reset. If the screen is not responding or the tab froze suddenly, what you need to know is how to reboot an RCA tablet in such a situation. Unlike most other tablets , RCA tablets come with a reset button at the back. The button is deep-set, so you may need a pin or paper clip to press it. Just long-press the reset button and your device will restart.

However, if you are facing any of the following issues like,

  • Slow performance or apps getting hung,
  • Forgot your password,
  • Or other glitches that are not fixed with a reboot,

Then you need to know how to factory reset RCA tablet , which is exactly what we have for you here.

Reset Process (Device On)

If you are not facing any technical issues and your tablet is working, you can factory reset it from Settings. This method can be used if you just want to erase your personal data or restore your device to default settings.

Unlock your device and open Settings.

Scroll down and you will find an option that says ‘backup and reset’. Tap on that and you will see a confirmation page that will tell you what happens once you confirm. It is recommended that you read this if you are unsure of what a factory reset will do to your device.

Alternatively ,  if you cannot find the ‘backup and reset’ option directly in Settings, it may be in a separate section. Go to Settings and then tap on Privacy. Here you will find the ‘backup and reset’ or ‘factory reset’ option.

You will see a button that says ‘reset tablet’ or ‘factory data reset’. Select that and let your device complete the process.

Select factory data reset in rca tablet settings

The reset is not completed until you restart the device. Some devices restart on their own, but if yours does not, you will have to restart it manually and your factory reset will be complete.

Reset Process (Device Off)

Use this method if you cannot unlock or turn on the tablet. For example, if you forgot your password . The steps for factory reset are similar but vary slightly for Android and Windows devices. We have covered both for your convenience.

Windows

The most common RCA tab that runs on Windows is the Cambio 10.1. Most Windows tablets come with a keyboard. So, here is how to factory reset RCA tablet with keyboard , which can also be used to reset any RCA Windows tab.

Completely switch off the device (if it isn’t off already).

Turn it on again and while it is loading, press and hold the “fn” (function) button and repeatedly press F9 on your keyboard. Keep pressing until you see ‘Please wait’ appear on the screen. Release the function button once it appears.

Wait a few seconds and select the ‘Troubleshoot’ option. Then select ‘Reset your PC’.

Next, you can either choose to just ‘remove files’ or ‘clean the drive’ completely (this will erase all your data and reset your tab to its default settings). Make your selection and you will see the RCA logo appear as well as the ‘loading’ animation.

Leave your device aside and let it proceed on its own.

Depending on your system setting, amount of data, etc. this process may take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. The device may turn on and off on its own during this, so do not manually press any buttons. Once the process is complete, your tablet will restart with its original factory settings.

For Windows tablets , if any software or applications do not seem to work properly after reset, run the Windows update. This should fix the problem.

Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Up at the same time. Once you see the start screen with the RCA logo, release the buttons.

For some tablets, you may have to go with the following alternate step:

Press and hold the Power button and Volume Up button at the same time. Now hold on to the Volume Up button and keep pressing the Power button a few times until you see the start screen.

You will see a command prompt screen with blue and yellow/orange text with the Android logo. Use the Volume Up and Down buttons to navigate and move to ‘wipe data/ factory reset’. Use the Power button to select the option.

You will see a confirmation page. Navigate the same way and select ‘yes – delete all user data’. Select the Power button.

Once the data is erased, you will be redirected to the command prompt screen. Next, select ‘reboot system now’, and let your device do the rest. How long it will take for the data to be erased depends on the amount you have stored.

Your device will restart and ask you to select your language, just like when you first turn on a new device.

You can use this method for both RCA Viking Pro   as well as to factory reset your RCA voyager tablet .

Using factory reset means you will lose your data. Unless this was your motive for resetting the device, make sure to backup. If you back it up properly or have a habit of using cloud storage, you have nothing to worry about. A factory reset can solve a lot of technical issues, but of course, it does not repair physical damages. Next time your device gets stuck, try this.

It erases all the data and settings on the tablet, giving you a clean slate to set up a new password and start fresh. Whether you have an RCA Voyager, Galileo, or any other model, the resetting process is similar and can be easily done even if you are not a tech expert.

In this article, we will discuss different methods to reset your RCA tablet if you have forgotten the password. We will explore the factory reset option through the system settings, hard reset via recovery mode, and using ADB (Android Debug Bridge) to reset the RCA tablet. Each method offers its own advantages and may vary slightly depending on the RCA tablet model you own. Follow the steps carefully and choose the method most suitable to your situation.

Why Resetting the RCA Tablet is necessary if you forgot the password?

Forgetting the password to your RCA tablet can be quite troublesome. It can prevent you from accessing your files, apps, and essential features of the device. In such a situation, resetting the RCA tablet becomes necessary to regain access and use it efficiently.

Here are some reasons why resetting your RCA tablet is necessary if you have forgotten the password:

  • Regain Control: When you forget the password, you are effectively locked out of your RCA tablet. Resetting it allows you to regain control and access to your device without the need for the forgotten password.
  • Security: Resetting the tablet ensures the security of your personal information. It erases all the data and settings and provides a fresh start, preventing unauthorized access to your files and accounts.
  • Performance Optimization: Over time, a tablet’s performance may decline due to various factors, including excessive apps and data. Resetting the device helps optimize performance by removing unnecessary files and settings.
  • Fixing Software Issues: Sometimes, software glitches or conflicts can occur that impact the performance of the tablet. Resetting it to factory settings can help fix these software issues and restore the tablet to its original state.
  • Preparing for Sale or Exchange: If you plan to sell or exchange your RCA tablet, resetting it is essential to ensure your personal data is completely removed from the device. This protects your privacy and prevents potential misuse of sensitive information.

Resetting your RCA tablet because you forgot the password can be a bit inconvenient, as it involves erasing all your data and settings. However, it is a necessary step to regain access to your tablet, ensure security, and optimize its performance.

Preparation before Resetting the RCA Tablet

Before you proceed with resetting your RCA tablet, there are a few important things to consider and steps to take to ensure a smooth process:

Backup Your Data: Resetting your RCA tablet will erase all the data and settings on the device. Therefore, it is crucial to back up any important files, documents, photos, or videos that you want to keep. You can either transfer them to a computer or upload them to a cloud storage service, such as Google Drive or Dropbox.

Ensure Sufficient Power: Make sure your RCA tablet has enough battery power to complete the resetting process. It is recommended to have at least 50% battery charge before initiating the reset. If your tablet’s battery is low, connect it to a power source and let it charge for a while before proceeding.

Make a Note of Account Information: If your RCA tablet is linked to your Google or any other accounts, ensure that you have the necessary login credentials handy. You will need this information to sign in again after the reset. Additionally, if your tablet has any other accounts linked, such as social media or email accounts, make sure you have the login details for those accounts as well.

Disconnect External Devices: Check if there are any external devices connected to your RCA tablet, such as a USB drive or an SD card. Safely remove these devices before proceeding with the reset to prevent any data loss or interference during the process.

Take Note of Wi-Fi Connection: After the reset, you will need to reconnect your RCA tablet to a Wi-Fi network. Make a note of the Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password, as you will be prompted to enter them during the device setup process.

Read the Manual or Visit the Manufacturer’s Website: Depending on the model of your RCA tablet, there may be specific instructions or guidelines provided by the manufacturer for resetting the device. It is a good idea to consult the user manual or visit the manufacturer’s website to familiarize yourself with the specific steps for your tablet model.

By following these preparation steps, you can ensure a smooth resetting process for your RCA tablet. Properly backing up your data, noting important information, and understanding the specific guidelines for your tablet model will help you avoid any potential issues and make the resetting process more efficient.

Method 1: Factory Reset via System Settings

One of the easiest ways to reset your RCA tablet is through the system settings. Follow these steps to perform a factory reset:

  • Open the “Settings” app on your RCA tablet. You can usually find the app icon in the app drawer or on the home screen.
  • Scroll down and select the “Backup & Reset” or “System” option.
  • Tap on “Factory Data Reset” or a similar option, depending on your device model.
  • Read the warning message that appears and confirm your decision to proceed with the factory reset.
  • Enter your device’s password or PIN, if prompted.
  • Finally, tap on “Reset” or “Erase Everything” to initiate the factory reset process.

Once the factory reset process is complete, your RCA tablet will reboot and return to its original factory settings. You will need to go through the initial setup process, including connecting to a Wi-Fi network, signing in with your Google or other accounts, and personalizing your device settings.

Note: It’s important to note that performing a factory reset will erase all data on your RCA tablet, including apps, photos, videos, and other files. Therefore, it’s crucial to back up any important data before proceeding with the reset.

This method is suitable if you have access to your RCA tablet and remember your device’s password. However, if you’ve forgotten the password and cannot access the settings, you will need to explore alternative methods for resetting your RCA tablet.

Method 2: Hard Reset via Recovery Mode

If you are unable to access the system settings on your RCA tablet, performing a hard reset through the recovery mode can help you reset your device. Here’s how you can do it:

  • Power off your RCA tablet by pressing and holding the Power button until the device shuts down completely.
  • Once the tablet is powered off, press and hold the Power button and the Volume Up button simultaneously. Continue holding both buttons until you see the RCA logo or a Recovery Mode screen.
  • Use the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to navigate through the options in the Recovery Mode menu. Look for the “Factory Reset,” “Wipe Data/Factory Reset,” or a similar option.
  • Highlight the factory reset option using the Volume buttons and select it by pressing the Power button. Confirm your decision to proceed with the hard reset.
  • Wait for the reset process to complete. Once finished, you will see a “Reboot System Now” or similar option. Select it with the Power button to restart your RCA tablet.

After the hard reset, your RCA tablet will reboot and return to its original factory settings. You will need to set up the device as if you are using it for the first time, including connecting to a Wi-Fi network, signing in with your Google or other accounts, and personalizing your device settings.

Note: Performing a hard reset through recovery mode will erase all data on your RCA tablet, including apps, photos, videos, and other files. Therefore, it is recommended to back up any important data before proceeding with the hard reset.

This method is helpful if you have forgotten your RCA tablet’s password and cannot access the system settings. By using the recovery mode, you can initiate a hard reset and regain control of your device.

Method 3: Using ADB (Android Debug Bridge) to Reset the RCA Tablet

If you are comfortable using command-line tools and have a basic understanding of ADB (Android Debug Bridge), you can reset your RCA tablet using ADB. This method can be useful if you are unable to access the system settings or recovery mode. Follow the steps below:

  • Connect your RCA tablet to a computer using a USB cable.
  • Ensure that you have ADB drivers installed on your computer. If not, download and install them from the official Android Developer website.
  • Open a command prompt or terminal window on your computer.
  • If your device is listed, proceed to the next step. If not, make sure the USB debugging option is enabled on your tablet. You can find this option in the Developer Options section of the settings menu. If Developer Options is not visible, go to About Phone/Tablet in the settings and tap on the build number repeatedly until the developer options are enabled.
  • Wait for the command to execute. Once finished, your RCA tablet will reboot and return to its original factory settings.

Note: Using ADB to reset your RCA tablet will erase all data on the device, including apps, photos, videos, and other files. Therefore, it is essential to back up any important data before proceeding with this method.

This method requires a bit of technical knowledge and familiarity with ADB. If you are not comfortable using command-line tools, it is recommended to use the previous methods discussed in this article.

By following these steps and using ADB, you can reset your RCA tablet and regain access to the device without having to rely on system settings or recovery mode.

Forgetting the password to your RCA tablet can be a frustrating experience, but there are ways to reset the device and regain access. In this article, we explored three methods to reset your RCA tablet if you have forgotten the password.

The first method involves performing a factory reset through the system settings. By accessing the settings menu, you can initiate a factory reset that will erase all data and settings on the tablet, returning it to its original state.

The second method involves using the recovery mode to perform a hard reset. This method is useful when you cannot access the system settings and requires you to enter a specific key combination to access the recovery mode menu.

The third method involves using ADB (Android Debug Bridge) to reset the RCA tablet. This method requires a bit of technical knowledge and familiarity with ADB but can be helpful when other methods are not feasible.

Remember, before performing any reset method, it is important to back up any important data to prevent permanent data loss. Additionally, each method will erase all data and settings on the tablet, so it is also advised to take note of important information such as Wi-Fi passwords and account login details.

By following the appropriate method based on your situation, you can successfully reset your RCA tablet and regain control of your device. Whether you choose to utilize the system settings, recovery mode, or ADB, the resetting process will ensure the security of your personal information and optimize the performance of your tablet.

Resetting your RCA tablet is an effective solution to overcome the challenge of a forgotten password, and by following the steps outlined in this article, you can get back to using your tablet without any hassle.
