One of the best things about visiting Chicago is all of the choices! Theater, world-class dining, sports, shopping, music….I could go on and on. I’ve created so many amusing memories here.  Hanging out in the city comes with its challenges though, most aren’t particularly fond of the traffic, parking, and driving!

 Cloud Gate

For those who want to experience Chicago without the unwanted extra stress, sightseeing tours are a hassle-free option.  You only need to relax and take in the many sights.

Chicago Safari Tour Guide, Lisa #2

Chicago Safaris

Chicago Safaris is a new company offering luxury sightseeing tours of the Windy City.  The owner, Seyi Arokoyo, came up with his business plan ten years ago while living in Chicago and working in an industry which allowed him to meet and host visitors in the city.  Realizing that most barely scratched the surface when it came to all that the city had to offer, his goal was to expose others to the hidden gems, restaurants, and rich history that he cherished.  I can appreciate his vision; there’s so much to discover beyond the Magnificent Mile and Navy Pier.

Based out of Northwest Indiana, Chicago Safaris affords individuals in the region the opportunity to visit one of the best cities in the world with ease and convenience. The company also offers wine tours to Michigan and transportation services to local events.

There are three levels of customizable packages; Silver, Gold, and Diamond. I was invited by Chicago Safaris to try out one of their tours along with my friends.

My crew and I decided on the Gold package.  You select a sightseeing activity and a food tasting activity.  We chose the movie scenes of Chicago for the sightseeing portion and a visit to Little Italy for out tasting tour!  Everything from the booking to pick up was a breeze.  Our group met at a central location, for our scheduled transportation.

First pre-trip drinks!  Priorities!

 Pre Trip Priorities

Our guides for the day were the 2 Lisas.  We liked them straight away.  Two down to earth ladies ready to deal with a group of crazy adults.  The bus was very comfortable with plenty of room.

The first leg of our tour focused on locations of movies filmed in Chicago.  Each year the number of films produced in the city continues to increase; 2017 saw an all-time high with over 580 film and media projects.

During the drive, Lisa divided the van into rows by teams and quizzed us on our movie history knowledge.  There’s nothing like a van full of competitive adults, you would’ve thought we were playing for money!

Our first location drive-by was the 95th St. bridge on Chicago’s far southeast side.  This drawbridge was famously jumped by Jake and Elwood in their Bluesmobile in Blues Brothers, a movie credited with putting the city of Chicago on the map as a venue for filmmaking.  I can’t tell you how many times that movie played in my household growing up!  It was one of my father’s favorites!

Continuing on, we got history and facts on a few additional locations before making our first stop at Skylark bar in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood.  Skylark is a spacious dive bar with an impressive beer selection and cheap prices; it’s also cash-only.  This bar was the location of the Jennifer Aniston, Vince Vaughn movie The Breakup.  Its also been the filming site for several Chicago based television shows and is a local favorite.

chicago safari tours

While driving to the next spot we made a pit stop at Firehouse 51, the filming site of tv show Chicago Fire. The building is the location of real-life fire station Engine 18 on the Near West side of Chicago.   As a fan of the show, it was cool to see.

 Firehouse 51, Chicago Fire

Food was the focus of the second half of the tour and centered around Little Italy, home to some of the city’s best Italian restaurants.

We stopped in for our first tasting at Al’s Italian Beef , a family business celebrating 80 years! The original recipe developed in Al’s home kitchen so many years ago is still in use at all Al’s Beef locations today.  It was my first time trying Al’s; the beef was tender and well-seasoned…I’d return.  The fries were the bomb!

 Al's Italian Beef

Our next stop in Little Italy was at Pompei , one of Chicago’s oldest eateries, where we feasted on pizza and their famous strudel.  I favored the strudel.  It reminded me of a calzone but much lighter, and it was STUFFED with flavorful ingredients.

 Pompei

My crew and I enjoyed a full day of hilarious memories and learned a great deal! I especially liked how we combined some walking and exploring along with the driving.  We’d surely roll with Chicago Safaris again. If you’re searching for a sightseeing company with great customer service and attention to detail, give them a try.

*Although my sightseeing tour with Chicago Safaris was complimentary, the opinions and thoughts are my own.  I’d definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a special experience in the city.

Head To Lake Geneva Safari, A 1.5 Hour Drive From Chicago

Just imagine wandering through the plains with a Giraffe bending its neck toward you or gazing at black-and-white-coated zebras frolicking through the grasslands.

Tori Levy

Lake Geneva is notably one of Chicagoans’ favored small-town getaway destinations— a scintillating lake, charming shops downtown, and sumptuous eateries. However, even with all those alluring attractions , the city has something even more enticing—the exhilarating Lake Geneva Safari.

Just imagine wandering through the plains with a Giraffe bending its neck toward you or gazing at black-and-white-coated zebras frolicking through the grasslands. Lake Geneva Safari is truly like nothing else.

giraffes next to a car at Lake Geneva Safari

Most animals are restricted to small enclosures at zoos and theme parks, with only small glimpses through clouded windows. However, during the Geneva Safari, visitors can see the animals roaming freely. The wildlife sanctuary allows herds of animals to wander and interact with one another on a vast acreage as you slowly drive through the exploration.

Founded by “Jungle” Jay Christie, a renowned exotic animal expert in the state, the park is a family-owned business. Visitors can see the world’s diminishing animal breeds in their natural habitats and promote conservation efforts to protect these endangered species.

Some animals at Lake Geneva Safari you’ll see include an Addax , Alpaca, Arabian Camel, Emu , Plains Bison, Plains Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Yak, and more. It’s essential to note that this is a drive-through safar i; nevertheless, you can purchase a bowl of grain and feed animals from your window.

The safari officially reopens on May 1st; online reservations are required. The soundest part? You can drive through as many times as you like. Learn more about it at Lake Geneva Safari .

Welcome to Africa

African landscapes parading with the circle of life promise magical moments unlike any you have imagined before. You'll find them...

Mountain gorillas in rwanda, a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with endangered mountain gorillas... on safari in rwanda with tauck.

On two safaris in wildlife-rich game reserves in Tanzania and Kenya, you'll spend the last three nights of your journey in Rwanda – home to the last remaining mountain gorillas on Earth. After gaining insights on gorilla behavior at private lectures and a visit to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund Museum, you'll be ready to begin your gorilla trek. Imagine hiking into the wilderness with a private porter and an expert guide for a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with mountain gorillas in the wild… watching them interact with each other – and, if they so choose, perhaps with you!

Africa's "Big Five"

Meet the "big five".

Lions (Panthera leo) are often seen in Masai Mara National Reserve (Kenya), Serengeti & Tarangire national parks, and Ngorongoro Conservation Area (Tanzania). Buffalo (Syncerus caffer) can weigh as much as 1,500 lbs. – big and dangerous enough to keep most predators at bay. Buffalo roam the Sabi Sands Game Reserve (South Africa) and Serengeti National Park (Tanzania). black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis) may be spotted in Ngorongoro Crater and the Masai Mara. leopards (Panthera pardus) are prevalent in most parks and reserves in east and southern Africa; you'll often need to look up to spot one... since they spend much of their time in trees. African Elephant (Loxodonta africana), the world's largest land mammal, is a fixture throughout the Masai Mara, as well as Amboseli and Serengeti national parks. Although they are not among the "Big Five," a gorilla trek in Rwanda is one of life's memorable experiences.

Star gaze in one of the naturally darkest places on earth. Enjoy a hands-on personal encounter with baby baboons. A truly unforgettable adventure in every way.

Then it's on to our desert camp, where dinner is served Berber-style under a tent with musical entertainment. Chicago official joked about ‘safari’ tours in high-crime neighborhoods.

chicago safari tours

A former supervisory city official in Chicago used a municipal email account to send and receive racist emails — including one that offered “safari tickets” to see life-threatening violence committed by “animals” in crime-riddled neighborhoods, according to a watchdog report released Monday.

The report by Chicago’s Inspector General found that one employee from the city’s Department of Water Management sent other high-ranking staffers an email with the subject line “Chicago Safari Tickets,” a fake travel package to see some parts of the city live and up close.

“If you didn’t book a Chicago Safari adventure with us this 4 th of July weekend, this is what you missed,” according to the email , which included the number of recent gunshot victims in neighborhoods like Englewood, Garfield Park and Woodlawn. “Remember all Chicago Safari packages include 3 Deluxe ‘Harold’s Chicken’ meals a day … We guarantee that you will see at least one kill and five crime scenes per three day tour. You’ll also see lots and lots of animals in their natural habitat.”

The employee was not named in the 35-page report, but the Chicago Tribune identified the former employee as Paul Hansen , a district superintendent who resigned in May after Inspector General Joseph Ferguson launched an investigation into racist and sexist emails allegedly distributed throughout the agency. The department’s commissioner, Barrett Murphy, and his top deputy, William Bresnahan, also stepped down after Mayor Rahm Emanuel learned of the ongoing probe.

Hansen is also accused of sending emails to other department employees with subject lines like “Watermelon Protection,” a message that contained an image of a Ku Klux Klan robe on a stick in the middle of a field of watermelons. In other emails, Hansen allegedly communicated with a high-ranking official using “purported Ebonics,” sent sexually explicit photos and videos and used his city email account to negotiate purchases or sales of at least four firearms and five cars with private individuals.

“OIG does not purport to have identified all improper emails sent and received by the employee,” according to the report, which noted that the employee in question subsequently resigned and has been placed on a do-not-rehire list.

A second employee from the troubled department also sent and received racist messages concerning Muslims and blacks, referring to them as “rag head c— suckers” and “wild animals,” respectively, according to the report. Another message suggested that people should have tossed grenades at a black Italian politician instead of bananas, the inspector general report found.

The second, now-former employee was identified by the Chicago Tribune as Thomas Durkin, general foreman of plumbers who resigned after being placed on administrative leave in June as an investigation unfolded.

Both Hansen and Durkin could not be reached for comment, the newspaper reports.

In a statement issued in response to the report, Emanuel said the conduct found by the inspector general “does not reflect” the city’s values.

“Mayor Emanuel has been clear that the conduct uncovered by the OIG’s investigation does not reflect Chicago’s values and will not be tolerated, which is why he acted swiftly to address the issue and bring in new leadership at the Department of Water Management,” spokeswoman Shannon Breymaier told the Chicago Tribune.

Becky G brings her 'Casa Gómez: Otro Capítulo Tour 2024' to Phoenix. How to get tickets

B ecky G is heading back to the Valley this year as part of the 14 stops she'll make during her recently announced "Casa Gómez: Otro Capítulo Tour 2024."

The tour will kick off on Oct. 11 at the Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom in Chicago and conclude at the Park in San Diego on Nov. 17.

Her Phoenix stop is scheduled for Oct. 27 at the Arizona Financial Theater, where she'll grace fans with new singles from her latest studio album, Esquinas, through which she pays tribute to her roots, referencing the intersection between her American style and Mexican upbringing.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

"I’m so excited to share this with you guys … I can’t wait to sing and laugh and dance and cry with you guys again muuuuuy pronto," she wrote on her Instagram account.

Becky G will also be expected to perform more of her regional Mexican music hits, including “Chanel” with Peso Pluma, “2ndo Chance” with Iván Cornejo, “Mercedes” with Oscar Maydon and “Por el contrario.”

The pre-sale began on Wednesday, Aug. 21, while general tickets go on sale Friday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. You can sign up at her site to get the presale code.

Who is Becky G?

Rebecca Marie Gomez, better known as Becky G , was born on March 2, 1997, in Inglewood, California. Of Mexican grandparents and American parents, the 26-year-old singer and actress has managed to position herself among renowned Latin artists in the U.S.

Becky G launched her career when she did a cover of Kanye West and JAY-Z's “Otis,” reaching the ears of Dr. Luke, who signed her to his label Kemosabe Records a year later. Her single “Shower” made her one of the big revelations of 2014.

She has since collaborated with major Latin artists like Bad Bunny, J Balvin, El Alfa and Karol G.

Her first hit in Spanish was “Mayores,” which she recorded and released in 2017 with Bad Bunny. Her Spanish-language success continued with “Mala Santa” in 2019. In 2022, she had another big hit alongside Karol G, when “MAMIII” was among the most listened-to singles.

Departure And Return

Pickup is at a central location where all guest meet. This can be at a residential location or business. We highly recommend that this location is close and has easy access to the expressway, allowing for more flexibility and the appropriate amount of time to the tour itself.

We will target to arrive at least 15mins prior to departure for loading of guests and materials for your tour (coolers, celebration balloons, etc.)

Return will be at the exact same location as pickup. We appreciate guest remove all items (personal and trash) from the vehicle upon return.

What To Expect

Depending on pickup/return location and traffic during the day of the event, transit time to and from winery locations can range from 1 hour to 2 hours. To make the day efficient, there are no intermediate stops other than stops at the wineries, so guests should plan accordingly.

During transit to and from winery locations, TV and DVD player will be available for entertainment purposes. Guests are welcome to bring their favorite movies (No Blu-ray) along. Depending on availability, other in-transit entertainment (games) could be provided.

Unless pre-planned, wineries tours do not include a stop for lunch. Most wineries have snack options and some have a full menu for food. Wine tour itineraries can be built to include a winery location that serves lunch. Also, the tour can be customized to include a more of a formal “sit-down” location for lunch or an early supper. Additional time can be required if planning for lunch for guest. Guest can bring coolers for their own food/snacks/drinks.
