yeah the filter is a PITA...I hate trying to get to it and I always have to use an oil cap adapter to get it off...I found that its a bit easier if u do it from the top under the hood if u can reach it to just loosen it up then take it all the way off from underneath...my 04 takes 5 qts...not 6 as advertised...I would suggest cleaning the engine...use Lucas Oil treatment to attempt to seal the leak if possible and watch for oil on that side...im not sure bout a common spot

The oil filter adapter gasket is the only known oil leak issue I have had and seen. Very easy inexpensive part. But messy as the adapter plate also include coolant pluming.

Your car's engine oil, or motor oil, lubricates and cools the internal parts of your engine. Not only does motor oil help your engine operate more smoothly, but it also helps to suspend and remove contaminants with the help of the oil filter. Some motor oils even condition seals and feature other additives to prolong engine life. With time and use, your motor oil can become contaminated or may oxidize or break down, reducing its ability to lubricate and protect your engine. Oil degradation is the main reason regular oil changes are so important, and can help increase your car's performance and engine health. Your manufacturer will specify the oil change interval, oil type, and weight for your specific vehicle, and this information can be found in your car's owner's manual. If you have an oil leak or if your engine burns oil, it may be necessary to add more oil between oil changes. Low oil levels will trigger your oil pressure warning light and can cause damage to your engine, in addition to decreased performance. If your oil is extremely contaminated, worn, or low, you may also notice metallic noises from the engine while it is running indicating that it is experiencing dangerous friction. When you're ready for your next oil change, pick up conventional or synthetic oil and an oil filter from O'Reilly Auto Parts, where we carry the types and weights of oil recommended for your vehicle. If you'd like more resources for a DIY oil change , visit our How-To Hub for content like how to choose the right motor oil , what causes engine sludge , and much more.
