And now the end is near, the final curtain… at least for Blake Shelton’s storied tenure in a red swivel chair on The Voice . Monday’s Season 23 premiere of the NBC sing-off was the beginning of the end for the last remaining OG coach, who announced this past fall that his next team would be his last. What’s New on Netflix in January — Plus: Disney+, Hulu, Amazon and Others View List

Needless to say, the episode did not let the occasion go unmentioned. Kelly Clarkson joked that she’d only returned after a season off to beat Blake one final time. The souvenir that he gave his recruits read, “I’m on Blake’s last team, and all I got was this lousy T-shirt.” Every time he pitched a singer, he mentioned that this would be his last hurrah. (Thank God I didn’t make a drinking game of it!) And Niall Horan, who along with Chance the Rapper, was new to the coaching panel, did a dead-on impersonation of the country superstar playing the “It’s my last time as coach” card.

Speaking of the rookie coaches, how much fun were Chance and Niall! Chance was chill but spirited, and Niall was just a hoot, a goofy live wire who quickly established a playful “father/son” shtick with the show’s GOAT.

Oh, and lest we forget, Monday also trotted out the first of Season 23’s Blind Auditions. Did anyone stand out to you? I thought a couple of contestants were really good and one, extraordinary. Let’s discuss the contenders who earned a coveted chair turn, shall we, then you can play favorites in the poll below.

The Voice Recap Season 23 Premiere Chance The Rapper Niall Horan

Sorelle (Team Chance), “Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy” — Grade: B | Though this sister act was inspired by Season 21 victors Girl Named Tom, the three-part harmonizers were more Season 22’s The Marilynds. The social-media influencers’ take on Queen was perfectly enjoyable but only got chair turns from Blake and Chance, who said that he’d been drawn in by the theatrical quality of their performance.

Holly Brand (Team Kelly), “Mississippi Girl” — Grade: A- | This former Miss Mississippi, who opened for Blake back when she was 10 years old (!), wowed all of the coaches but Blake with her record-ready version of Faith Hill’s hit. She has range, power, control and an ear-catching whistle note to (cowboy) boot. Maybe for once Blake was even more tone-deaf than your friendly neighborhood recapper?

the-voice-recap-season-23-premiere-chance-the-rapper-niall-horan

Ross Clayton (Team Niall), “Blue Ain’t Your Color” — Grade: A- | After putting his career on hold for his family, this father of three came roaring back with a Keith Urban cover that was rock-solid — as far as we could hear. There was almost as much of Carson Daly and the coaches hollering as the four-chair turn singing! Nonetheless, Ross’ soulful country tone was so impressive, it inspired Niall to beg on bended knee to recruit the standout.

Michael B. (Team Niall), “Save Your Tears” — Grade: C+ | Having come close (but no cigar) to realizing his dream of performing on Broadway, this personable P.A. put a sorta show-tuney spin on The Weeknd, earning a chair turn from Niall with a vocal that probably fell closer to Clay Aiken than Ben Platt. As much as I’d love to see a theatre kid do well on the show, I doubt Michael’s gonna be the one.

the-voice-recap-season-23-premiere-chance-the-rapper-niall-horan

NOIVAS (Team Chance), “A Change Is Gonna Come” — Grade: A | Ordinarily, I’m skeptical of singers who insist on all-caps names. (Why are you yelling at us?) But this Texas girldad, I had to admit, deserved it. From note No. 1 of his Sam Cooke cover, the four-chair turn was serving power, feeling and absolute conviction. So forget what I said about Alex — NOIVAS definitely had the most interesting voice of the night. Straight to the Live Playoffs for him.

Holly, NOIVAS, and Tasha were my top 3 tonight! All stellar auditions!

Honorable mention to Sorelle, they had really nice harmonies

With Blake Shelton stepping away from his role as a Voice coach, you’d think the show would pull out all the stops in Season 23. You’d be wrong. Very wrong. Instead, Voice producers are about to roll out the least satisfying season of the show to date. Don’t misunderstand. The talent is there. I’ve researched the 40 singers / acts rumored to fill the teams and it’s a diverse and gifted group of artists. Artists deserving of the exposure that would come from a full season of The Voice. That’s not what they’ll get. That’s not what viewers will get. Instead, The Voice is going to serve up the lightest version yet of what I call Voice light, returning to the format that took contestants from the playoffs to the finale in just three weeks in seasons 18-20. And, for good measure, they’ve thrown in some unwelcome twists. Here are the groan-worthy details. * In Season 23, the playoffs won’t be live. Instead, for the first time ever, the coaches will handpick all eight semifinalists. * That will mean just two lives shows. Just two chances to vote for your favorites. * And Voice producers have come up with one of their silliest gimmicks yet, something they’re calling the playoff pass. Here’s how that will work. During the battle round, instead of the save they’ve had in past seasons, each coach will have one playoff pass. Recipients of the playoff pass will get to skip the knockout round and advance directly to those no-longer-live playoffs. So, with such a powerful playoff pass at play, surely The Voice altered its format to make sure every contestant had a chance of snagging one, right? Not hardly. Remember, this is The Voice. Fair play isn’t even a consideration. In past seasons, I’ve criticized The Voice because coaches tend to use all their saves and steals quickly, leaving contestants who perform later in the battle and knockout rounds in a win-or-go-home situation. Under the format The Voice insists on using, how early in the round a singer performs matters nearly as much as how well they perform in terms of their chance of advancing. I’ve long argued steal and save decisions should be made only after coaches have watched everyone perform. Not one thing changed in Season 23. All the playoff passes were gone by the end of the second day of battle round taping. At least 14 singers who performed on day three didn’t even have a chance at the playoff pass. That’s 35 percent of the singers who made the show. And, once again, the problem was worse in the knockouts, with all four steals used on day one. Half of the contestants sang on day two, when no steals were available. From my perspective, there’s another problem with the playoff pass. It means a singer can make the Voice Season 23 finale based on just three solo performance — their blind audition followed by their playoff and the semifinal performances. I’m sorry, but that’s absurd. I’d call the playoff pass the stupidest gimmick The Voice has come up with, except that there’s been so many others. Remember the cross battles? Remember the second-chance stage? And, hey, it’s tough to top the instant save, which the show still uses. It redoes hours of overnight voting in about 5 minutes. While only part of The Voice audience is watching. Putting singers with West Coast fans bases at an enormous disadvantage. One good thing about this spring’s abbreviated format is that there will only be one instant save in Season 23. Life’s too short for me to waste my time than pretending there’s much credibility to anything that happens Monday and Tuesday nights on The Voice..

gosh, that format sounds *awful*. thank you for posting about it, though, as i’d rather know going in what to expect. i hate the seasons that shortchange the later rounds and lives.

But you wasted OUR time with this long, boring preview of what’s to come. Sheesh, buddy, why did you feel the need for this? What did you think of Niall and Chance? Did you have a favorite singer from Monday?

No one forced you to read his post. You wasted your own time ,not him

Go to my blog.

I’m writing about the Blind Auditions.

I agree mostly. Saw a lot of promise in D Smooth even though he didn’t pick the best song. Didn’t care much for Ross, not quite sure how it was a 4 chair turn. NOIVAS was my favorite with Tasha 2nd.

Tasha Jessen got my vote!!

Forgot to mention that I absolutely loved Niall Horan and Chance also did very well!

Niall and Chance were great, very nice and funny guys. Tired of hearing about Blake’s last season already. I really hope that people vote for the singer and not Blake because this is his last season. And yes, I realize that is probably a foolish wish. NOIVAS was so incredible – really the highlight of the show. But I also enjoyed Ross and Sorelle.

Agree on all counts: the new coaches are refreshing; am tired of Blake’s entitled schtick (& annoyed that Kelly is already scripted to play his antagonist); and NOIVAS was sublime.

Chance and Niall are terrific! This is going to be a good season with the new coaches.

Loved NOIVAS, who seemed the only A-level. .. Elsewise, Star Martin (from U.S. Virgin Islands) was as good as anyone, but failed to get a chair turn! I’d give her a B+. .. Star was good as my 2 other B+ers–Neil & Ross. .. The Solid Bs imo were Tasha, Holly, Alex, & D.

I would have enjoyed it more if they had not advertised the gimmicks Niall and Chance used, in the weeks leading up to tonight. I really enjoyed Chance. He’s definitely more than a rapper. How many were from Oklahoma tonight? Guess the season will be full of them because it’s BLAKE’S LAST SEASON 🤣🙈 Loved Novias and Ross and Holly.

You are so right! They have away too much in the promos. Ruined all the fun.

Hey, did you know that it’s Blake’s Last Season™ ??? It’s too bad he isn’t using that, it’s a great gimmick. *gag*

Frankly, I never heard of Niall, but he is a fresh addition to the Voice! And I have a new respect for Chance, I loved what he did with the trio, pretty clever! I will always love Blake no matter how they beat his “last season” to death. What I don’t like is Kelly. More often than not I am thinking ‘just shut up Kelly, it’s not about you!” Of course, Noivas was the best, they always save the best for last. I also liked Tasha and Ross. The “Mississippi Girl” will go home first.

Thank you for saying that about Holly. Her voice seemed thin at points. Nothing special imo. Thought Blake was right not to turn for her.

I just saw the spoilers for the final 8 and I really wasn’t looking for them .Now I know who to fast forward through 😂

Jill O'Rourke

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Voice Season 22 has officially started filming, and fans can request tickets to upcoming tapings. This is the first year the show has only aired one season rather than two. Although a premiere date hasn’t been announced, this season’s coaching panel has.

‘The Voice’ Is Filming, Fans Can Request Tickets

Earlier this week, warm-up host Chuck Dukas posted photos from the set of The Voice , showing a small audience in the stands. He tagged the location as Universal Studios Hollywood and wrote in the caption, “Had a fun day warming up this great crowd today.”

The show is currently filming the Blind Auditions, and fans can request tickets to attend online. Tickets are currently available by request for Thursday, June 23, and Friday, June 24. There are two tapings listed for each day, in the morning and afternoon.

New Coach Camila Cabello Joins Season 22

Season 22 of The Voice will feature a new coach, Camila Cabello . She appeared as a Battle Advisor on John Legend’s team last year, and now she’ll be sitting in her own spinning red chair and coaching her own team.

Past coach Gwen Stefani will also be joining the panel this season. She last appeared as a coach in Season 19, when her artist Carter Rubin won the show. This will be her sixth season on the panel, as she’s appeared on and off over the years.

Stefani’s husband Blake Shelton will also return to the panel for his 22nd season of coaching. Rounding out the panel is John Legend, who will be back for his seventh season as a coach. That means we have to say goodbye to Kelly Clarkson, who coached for eight seasons but won’t be appearing this time.

Carson Daly will return to host the new season, which is expected to premiere some time this fall on NBC.

The country singer then went on tour with Blake Shelton and the Zac Brown Band. Under Dean Dillon's Wildcatter Records, he released the album 'Stained Glass and Neon' in January 2019. He has continued to tour and perform in the United States.

In 2019, she changed her stage name to Chloe MK, which is written in all lowercase letters, and released the track 'To Be Young' off her later-released EP Fantasy. She will also release the single 'Slide' in September 2021.

Cam Anthony

'The Voice' Season 20 winner Cam Anthony (Instagram/therealcamanthony)

Cam Anthony rose to prominence on YouTube with his versions of songs like Bruno Mars' 'When I Was Your Man' and John Legend's 'All of Me' before winning the NBC series alongside coach Blake in 2021. He was even interviewed by talk show star Ellen Degeneres and won the Fox revival of 'Showtime at the Apollo' in 2018.

Cam opened for the 2021 Wawa Welcome America lineup, which included Bebe Rexha and Flo Rida, following his recent 'Voice' triumph.

Girl Named Tom

'The Voice' Season 21 winner Girl Named Toy (Instagram/girlnamedtom)

Girl Name Tom, a folk group composed of siblings Joshua, Bekah Grace, and Caleb Liechty, were the first three to win 'The Voice' in 2021. During their tenure on Kelly's squad, they had four songs rank in the top ten on iTunes.

Since winning the title, the siblings have embarked on a nationwide tour and will release an album titled 'One More Christmas' in 2022. In the same year, they opened for Pentatonix's Holidays Around the World Tour. The band plans to return to the road in 2023, visiting venues across the United States.

Bryce Leatherwood

'The Voice' Season 22 winner Bryce Leatherwood (Instagram/bryceleatherwood)

At the age of 22, Bryce Leatherwood, a Georgia-born country singer and songwriter, won Season 22, giving Blake his seventh (and last) triumph. In Tishomingo, Orlando, and Gatlinburg, he has performed at Ole Reds, which are Blake-inspired live-music venues.

Bryce also returned to the 'The Voice' stage for the season 23 finale to pay respect to Blake during the coach's last season. Bryce revealed plans for his first national tour in May 2023.

'The Voice' Season 23 winner Gina Miles (Instagram/ginamilesofficial)

Gina Miles won 'The Voice' season 23 at the age of 18, earning coach Niall Horan his first win in the competition. Kelly and Niall both turned around after hearing her audition, a version of Katy Perry's 'The One That Got Away'.

Gina joined the Irish singer for a duet of 'New York State of Mind' during the live finale. The teen received $100,000 and a record deal with Universal Music.

What does the winner of 'The Voice' get?

View this post on Instagram                       Shared post on Time

Each 'The Voice' winner allegedly receives $100,000 and a record deal with Universal Music Group. For instance, the 'American Idol' winner allegedly receives $250,000 plus a $1,000 weekly stipend while recording their album.

However, the winner of 'The Voice' may receive additional benefits from the show's celebrity coach mentoring them. Judge Blake has brought winners from his team on tour with him and has attempted to get Universal Music Group to properly market their recordings.

Furthermore, the financial award is said to come with conditions. According to the New York Daily News , if a participant breaks the contract they signed with the network, they will not get the reward.

Any candidate who leaks the show's contract specifics may be sued for $100,000 to $1 million. Aside from the financial reward, contenders are given a modest stipend to cover living expenses while on the show.

Texas A&M baseball

Despite Tennessee's effort to gain runs back in the final innings, Texas A&M's massive third inning and lockdown defense sealed its Game 1 win, 9-5. The Aggies set the tone with a leadoff homer from Gavin Grahovac and didn't let off the gas in the third, plating five with Kaeden Kent's two-RBI single as the exclamation point. The Aggies did not err once defensively as the Vols racked up three errors, one resulting in an A&M RBI. Evan Aschenbeck secured the win, pitching 2.2 innings while striking out seven and allowing two hits and no walks.

The teams face off in Game 2 of the MCWS finals at 2 p.m. ET Sunday on ABC.

Another RBI single from Caden Sorrell brought the Aggies up again before a Tennessee throwing error brought Ted Burton home.

MCWS finals start today ⤵️

Texas A&M vs. Tennessee for MCWS Finals

It's Game Day. The No. 1 national seed Tennessee Volunteers face off against No. 3 Texas A&M in the 2024 Men's College World Series finals tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET in Game 1 . Both teams went undefeated through the MCWS bracket, with Tennessee becoming the first No. 1 national seed to advance to the finals since 2009.

Both programs are in uncharted territory as the Vols are making their first finals appearance since 1951. The Aggies are making their first ever. Regardless of the outcome, one team will bring home its program's first MCWS trophy.

For Tennessee, it has finally reached the finals in its third MCWS berth since 2021, and the Volunteers will look to cap off their dominant season by becoming the first No. 1 national seed to win the national championship since 1999.

Over in College Station, Texas A&M has already accomplished more than any Aggies team before them, but the 12th man has shown fight this postseason, reaching the finals despite losing one of college baseball's greatest stars, Braden Montgomery, in the Super Regionals. The Aggies have proven resilient, and they will certainly challenge the Vols for the trophy.

This is the third time in four years the MCWS finals has featured an SEC matchup, and the streak of four-straight SEC MCWS champions will continue.

MCWS finals set: Tennessee vs. Texas A&M

We'll have a first-time Men's College World Series champion in 2024 after Tennessee and Texas A&M both clinched berths in the finals on Wednesday, June 19.  See the championship schedule and how they got there below.

MCWS finals schedule

  • June 22 — MCWS Final Game 1 : Tennessee vs. Texas A&M, 7:30 p.m. | ESPN
  • June 23 — MCWS Final Game 2 : Texas A&M vs. Tennessee, 2 p.m. | ABC

The clinching moments

Tennessee 7 , Florida State 2

Tennessee defeated Florida State 7-2 to advance to the championship series of the 2024 Men's College World Series. It's the second time the Volunteers have made the finals in program history — and the first time since 1951.

The Volunteers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Tennessee boosted the lead up to 6-0 by the seventh inning stretch before Florida State got on the board late. Tennessee's pitching staff allowed only seven hits in the game.

No program has more wins over the last four seasons than Tennessee, and now the Volunteers will have a chance to add a title to support those successful seasons.

Texas A&M 6,  Florida 0

Texas A&M defeated Florida 6-0 to win advance to the 2024 Men's College World Series finals.

The Aggies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, forcing an early Florida pitching change. Meanwhile, excellent pitching from Justin Lamkin for the first five innings kicked off a shutout effort. Lamkin had nine of Texas A&M's 14 strikeouts in the win.
