The  Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo  is an annual series of  military tattoos  performed by  British Armed Forces ,  Commonwealth  and international  military bands , and artistic performance teams on the Esplanade of  Edinburgh Castle  in the  capital of Scotland . The event is held each August as one of the  Edinburgh Festivals .

Our 4-day, 3-night trip is based at the 3-star Rob Roy Hotel in Aberfoyle, on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. The Rob Roy Hotel is wonderfully situated in idyllic countryside at the gateway to the glorious Trossachs and is set within Scotland’s first National Park. Named after the legendary local folk hero Rob Roy McGregor, The Rob Roy offers excellent food friendly staff, and good old fashioned value for money.

The Hotel is a short stroll along the banks of the Forth River to the picturesque village of Aberfoyle where you will find Scottish made Arts, Crafts and Clothing, and 3 Visitor Centres. The splendours of Loch Katrine, Callender, Historic Stirling and Loch Lomond are all within easy striking distance, and the hotel is an ideal centre for touring the Trossachs, Perthshire and the Highlands.

Each of the 103 bedrooms features everything you need to ensure a comfortable well-rested stay with us. Fresh decor, well appointed ensuite bathrooms, bedrooms equipped with flat screen televisions, tea and coffee making facilities and wi-fi is all part of the experience. The Rob Roy Hotel is the perfect place to relax.

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Festival

The Edinburgh Tattoo is a spectacular like no other. A kaleidoscope of music, dance and entertainment. All set against the iconic backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. See your evening burst into life with a colourful blend of Scottish pipe and drum bands, highland dancers and performers from across the world. Bigger, better and more technically thrilling than ever before. A unique mix of military tradition and global cultures. This really is an experience for the senses. Your seat is waiting.

Departing from your chosen pick up point, we travel to Edinburgh with a comfort stop en route. Enjoy some free time exploring the Scottish capital before heading to Edinburgh Castle and taking your seats for the 18.15 performance of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The performance lasts approximately 90 minutes. After the show has finished the coach will be waiting for you for the return journey. It may be quite chilly, if you feel the cold please bring a small cushion and blanket for the performance.

Important information

The walk to the arena is via Castlehill, the old, cobbled approach to the Esplanade on a steep incline and consequently, may prove difficult for some.  In addition, there are five or so steps to be negotiated to reach the front rows of all the spectator stands in the arena where generally, the seating is quite steeply tiered.
