Rhine Cruises Basel

Basler Personenschifffahrt AG Westquaistrasse 62 4057 Basel Phone  +41 (0)61 639 95 00 bpg.ch

There is always something to experience aboard the flotilla of the Basle passenger cruise company: lock passages between Basle and Rheinfelden, city and harbour tours, rich brunch offer and much more.

The city and harbour tours take roughly one hour. They take visitors past the charming facades of the Basle old town, Basle cathedral and the ancient city walls near the St. Alban valley, further along the Kleinbasle Rhine shores up to the border triangle and the Basle Rhine harbour, which is the loading and unloading station of countless goods. The two-and-a-half hour Rhine lock journey takes passengers along the Rhine shores from Basle to Rheinfelden. Two locks at Augst and Birsfelden have to be negotiated on the Swiss as well as the German side. Also, the vessel docks at several boat landings: at Kaiseraugst and at the former Roman city Augusta Raurica among others.

Excursion tips

  • Beyeler Foundation – the museum with some of the most famous masterpieces of classical modernism
  • Brewery Feldschlösschen – exploring one of the most beautiful beer breweries in the world
  • Basle Zoo – the world of animals in a fascinating park landscape
  • Tinguely Museum
  • Aqua Basilea – the bath offering a mixture of action and relaxation

Straight Talk

We want to make sure you're on the trip that's right for you. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.

On our active cruises, we seek out diversity by including regionally authentic and creative meals for onshore lunches, picnics and the occasional onshore dinner. On-ship meals, though delightful, are meant to appeal to a wide cross section of passengers and may at times feel more conventional for some, and less reflective of the region than on Backroads hotel trips.

In contrast to our land-based trips, which have similar room categories, the AmaWaterways ships offer a wide range of stateroom categories. The top-tier staterooms often fill fast so book as early as possible if this is important to you.

Most port conditions require that ships tie up alongside each other, in which case you may need to walk through another ship to access our ship. This is a part of river cruising due to its popularity. You may experience obstructed views from your stateroom when the ship is double-docked, but as soon as we set sail again your beautiful views will be restored.

Accommodations

Small ships, big adventures.

Our small ships feel more like boutique retreats, offering an experience a world away from the typical large cruise.
