Eldorado Canyon Mine

The Eldorado Canyon Mine is one of Nevada’s richest historical locations, thanks to the abundance of gold deposits that were found in the region.

Today, this popular gold mine is a popular tourist attraction in Nevada, and one of the many ways to learn about the history of the region.

Start with a mine tour to discover what made the Techatticup Mine the region’s oldest and richest mines in South Nevada. This mine, which was operational between 1861 and 1942, is a fascinating place to explore. It is interesting to note that at the peak of its operation, steamboats traveling on the Colorado River were the main form of transport.

Inside the mines, visitors get a chance to see up close the veins in which the silver and gold were transported. The experience is a walking tour that stretches for about a quarter of a mile on gravel, and typically lasts an hour and 10 minutes.

Visitors are advised that the inner parts of the mine get pretty cool during winter, so it is important to dress accordingly. These mine tours are set for 9am, 12pm and 2pm provided there are four or more adults. Entry fees are $15 and $10 for adults and kids, respectively.

If the mine tour is not your cup of tea, then worry not because the is the option of taking on the mighty Colorado River in a canoe or kayak. The River, which is located five miles away, is perfect for kayaking. Rentals are available at the mine, but visitors are responsible for transporting the canoes and kayaks to and from the mine. Trailers and supply foam roof racks are available.

In the year 1775, Spanish explorers discovered vast quantities of gold in the area of El Dorado Canyon. Over the next 100 years, this area attracted many pioneers who were looking to strike it rich. Due to its remote location, it became notorious as a place of lawlessness--where highwaymen, banditos, and cowboys alike sought their fortune in this relic of the Wild West.

The Techatticup Mine is one of the biggest and most successful mines in the area. Over its lifespan of 40 years, it produced tens of millions of dollars' worth of gold, silver, and lead. The El Dorado Tour is a great way to see how people lived, worked, and died in these rugged mining camps. You'll encounter many great photo opportunities and see for yourself why this area was known as the most lawless place in all of the West.

Your driver/guide will pick you up from your Las Vegas hotel at 7:45 AM, and you will have the chance to soak in the city views on the way to the of the ghost town. The mine tour is approximately one hour and 10 minutes and is very educational and fun. At the conclusion of the tour, you will have time to walk around the Ghost Town to take photos and look around.

We will provide water for you, but you are also more than welcome to bring additional beverages (including alcohol) and snacks. You will want to bring a camera and/or a phone to take your own pictures of this significant location. There are modern restrooms in the main building at the Ghost Town, along with water and snacks for purchase.

The walking tour of the Techatticup Mine is about ¼ mile long. You'll follow a guide down a gravel path that remains on one level. You won't have to climb or navigate obstacles during the approximate 1-hour tour. As an added bonus, the mine offers cool temperatures and relief from the hot summer sun.

Is Nelson's Ghost Town Haunted?

While we cannot say for sure if Nelson's Ghost Town is haunted, keep in mind that the town experienced a huge murder rate during its heyday in the 1800s. This area was the epitome of the lawlessness of the Wild West, and we wouldn't be surprised if some of that energy still remains to this day.

What should I wear for the mine tour?

The mine is located underground and can be a tad bit chilly, especially in the fall and winter months. It's advisable to wear sturdy shoes with excellent sole support and not sandals or flip flops. If you come during the winter months, be sure to bring a jacket as it may get a bit chilly!

Doctor Burke is an amazing doctor. She has cared for my family and I for well over a decade. She was right there with us during my father's illness and helped ease his passing and cared for us after he had left us. The entire office is part of our family. I can't think of any better way to honor her other than to say we truly love her. She is top notch when it comes to the technical side of her craft and yet, she will take time to explain things to you in plain English and... oh my... she has the patient PARTICIPATE in their outcome rather than talk at them. I had a minor hand procedure last night and she like my suggestion of immobilizing with a splint to remind me not to move the finger that had been treated. She's a gem. She will be my doctor as long as she is around. Period. That should say plenty!

I moved to Florida a few years ago. You'd think that living in a place like Florida you would have access to a slew of qualified doctors with plenty of experience. We are talking about Florida, God's waiting room. In any event, not the case. Dr's here run the routine annuals, review your meds and really don't seem to prescribe supplements. Yes, SUPPLEMENTS! If I recall correctly, Dr. Burke would order over 90 individual blood tests each year, track your progress and help you identify how to fix your results, naturally. Functional medicine. I had never heard of it prior to Dr. Burke and, apparently, it's still unheard of in SW Florida. If you are lucky enough to get to be her patient then you can look forward to being in good hands. I may move back to our home in California permanently just to be her patient. (If I can get in.) She is a treasure.

After years of the same uninformative doctors that don't want to or don't know how to address real issues or complex issues, it is Dr. Holthouse at True Health that has helped me get the care I've searched for and wanted! Extremely comprehensive and thorough testing and treatment. They have the answers to all my questions and concerns s.

So grateful to find TrueHealth! Finally I found the team of professionals who are interested in finding the root of my health issues and are helping me to achieve true health on physical, emotional and energetic levels! Thank you very much!

Dr. Burke's practice is about integrated, functional medicine. She takes a more holistic approach, incorporating aspects of various treatment modalities to the benefit of the patient. IMHO, the reason she charges the membership fee, is to compensate for the time she spends with each patient. Thats the difference from her practice to others. The amount of time she spends thinking about care for each patient, outside of the time spent in each office visit, is enormous. She is always looking for was for patients to save money on the tests needed to diagnose problems that plague people, for which traditional Western medicine has been unable to solve. There are so many tests available that are incredibly relevant for diagnosing issues that most health Insurance won't pay for. I was outraged when I began to understand this. Insurance pays for what's easiest for them to say they met the minimum standard of care, not necessarily what's best for you. That isn't Dr Burkes fault, thats the result of greedy Health insurance company practices. My other Dr's with UCDavis and Mercy were not educated enough to order the tests that Dr. Burke would order for me. It takes years for the body to get screwed up, due to due environmental issues, and high stress jobs, with no sleep, like mine, and it will take time to unravel the mystery of why I'm not healthy. So this is an investment in myself, and I'm worth it. I struggle with immune and GI issues that are significant. After 1 year with Dr. Burke, I've seen more improvement, than over 15 years with traditional care western medicine. I'm happy to pay more for a Dr that will undertake the journey towards better health with me. That's invaluable, and the previous 15 years of "health care" was wasted dollars, now that I know better. Choose better health, and choose Dr. Burke.

Left her practice after 12 years of service due to yearly membership fee of $$$$ introduced in Oct. 2009.

Dr. Burke and her entire staff are amazing. I have had thyroid issues for the last 20 years. With Dr. Burkes expertise, I can say iam finally on a path of wellness. I feel better and have decreased by body inflammation by half and with the guidance of True Health and Dr. Burke, I will continue on my path to wellness.

My wife has been a patient of Dr. Burke's for almost ten years. We were a part of the practice before the transition to the new FEE system for service. I don't mind paying fees even extreme fees such as $900 annually (out of pocket) assuming I receive excellent care. However, the only change in care I have seen from the doctor is how much she cares about her pocketbook. We were seeing her for severe pain for almost four years telling her that there was something severely wrong. She did rudimentary examinations, and denied that there was any problem and prescribed pain management in the form of medication. Over time the pain continued and worsened. Dr Burke's only solution was to numb the pain with heavier drugs. After going to her at wits end, still in pain, and now fed up with the foggy haze that my wife was in from all of the medicine, we demanded an MRI. Finally to Dr. Burke's chagrin, the MRI was granted, and the results showed what we had known all along. There was something severely wrong. My wife had been walking around with a half broken neck! (Same injury as Christopher Reeve.) During those FOUR years, my wife could have been bumped the wrong way and been paralyzed for life, or worse, death. Dr Burke could have negligently killed my wife.

I love Dr. Burke. She was my Primary Care for years. She helped me with my knee problems, took care of me during my pregnancy, and was my daughter's pediatrician after she was born. I would still be with Dr. Burke had I not moved out of the area. I've only found one other Dr. who has shown the kind of care and concern Dr. Burke showed. Wish she was still my Dr.
