Empower Field at Mile High Denver Broncos stadium events seating parking food

Empower Field at Mile High

By Edward de la Fuente

Our guide to Empower Field at Mile High, home stadium of the Denver Broncos, includes information on events, tickets, parking, public transportation, nearby hotels and restaurants, seating and more. Read on to find out how to get the most out of your gameday experience.

The Mile High City is a sports mecca these days, and a visit to Empower Field at Mile High will validate that quickly.

After all, despite the vibrant sports scene Denver boasts now, with representative teams in five major sports leagues and other major events taking place there throughout the year, once upon a time the Broncos were the only game in town.

And that’s a big reason — one of many, surely, but big nonetheless — why the team is so beloved in Denver. Three Super Bowl victories and countless players who have become local legends have something to do with it, too.

So it stands to reason that attending a Broncos game in Denver is quite an experience, but like most experiences around the NFL, it’s one that’s best summed up by being there. The Broncos’ stadium — which got its latest name thanks to a 2019 naming-rights deal — adds to the ambiance as a fantastic venue to watch some football.

Located on the edge of downtown Denver, the stadium is easy to get to for visitors to Denver as well as set off far enough for the tailgaters and other die-hards to spread out. And once you get inside, there’s plenty to offer as well.

Read on to find out more about the uniquely mile-high experience at the Broncos’ stadium.

Getting to Empower Field

Denver is one of those cities where just about anything a visitor would want to do is located within or reasonably close to the downtown core, so planning a visit is easy. That’s no different for football fans coming in from elsewhere. Find yourself a hotel room near downtown, and you’re largely set for a Broncos game at the stadium.

The above paragraph comes with a caveat, though: the stadium itself is actually on the other side of Interstate 25, which runs just west of downtown. If you’re staying along the popular 16th Street Mall, you would still be more than a mile from the venue. That’s a walk some might prefer not to take, though many football fans do it every gameday and there are plenty of places to stop and hang out along the way if need be.

Denver’s light rail system, which has expanded in recent years to serve the outlying suburbs in several different directions, also has a stop at the stadium (just on the other side of I-25 as well).

Three different lines reach the station, and from downtown it can be reached by boarding at Union Station. Though the journey is all of two stops, it might be worth saving all those footsteps if you’re trying to get to the Broncos’ stadium from a downtown hotel.

Parking at Empower Field

Drivers are well taken care of by the numerous surface lots surrounding the stadium. Typically, the closest lots are permit-only, but a handful of them are set aside for gameday purchase. As of the 2022 season, gameday parking rates began at $30.

More parking is readily available in the lots east of I-25, some of which are shared with the nearby Ball Arena and University of Colorado-Denver.

And real bargain-hunters can seek parking in any number of private parking lots and structures downtown and walk or take light rail from there; anecdotally, we’ve seen rates as low as $5 being advertised downtown.

Things to do around empower field.

If you thought the 16th Street Mall and other downtown hotels and restaurants were too far from the stadium, try walking through just hours before kickoff of a Broncos home game. The area is typically teeming with football fans, and not just those planning to watch from the bar, either.

So downtown is a perfectly viable — and popular — pregame stop, with hundreds of restaurants and bars to choose from. For a starter’s guide to downtown Denver restaurants, click here .

Also if you’re downtown, swing by Larimer Square, a section of Larimer Street between 14th and 15th streets that each fall is festooned with Broncos colors. The street is lined with restaurants and coffee shops, but whether you visit those establishments or not, it’s worth passing through just to get a glimpse of how the city supports its football team.

For those who would rather find a spot close by, you might be a little disappointed. Federal Avenue, west of the venue, is dotted with fast-food and quick-bite type places and a handful of smaller hotels, but other than that, the pickings are slim in the immediate vicinity of the Broncos’ stadium.

As is the case at other NFL venues, the best thing to do close to the stadium (before going in, at least) is to tailgate, find some friendly fans who will let you join their tailgate, or simply take in the tailgate scene.

Whether the lots are permit-only or open for gameday purchase, there are some epic tailgates to be found throughout the area around the stadium. Follow this link for more on tailgating before Broncos games at Empower Field.

Watching a game at Empower Field

The gate on Empower Field’s east side, which is the first view of the stadium for fans coming from downtown, is fronted by a fountain and the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame . This entrance is also the end of a path that winds from the east parking lots underneath I-25 and over the meandering South Platte River.

There is also a large gate on the stadium’s west side that features several large sculptures on the approaching walkway. Though there are numerous turnstiles at both gates, bottlenecks still frequently occur the closer it gets to kickoff.

Before going inside, don’t forget to check out the Mile High Monument , in Parking Lot J just north of the stadium, which pays homage to the Broncos’ previous home, Mile High Stadium .

Once you’re inside, you’ll find the usual creature comforts that a modern NFL venue provides. If your seat is in the upper reaches, though, be forewarned that this is when you’ll truly be reminded that Denver is the Mile High City — walking up 20-plus seating rows worth of steps in the Broncos stadium’s upper reaches, or walking up a series of ramps to reach the upper concourses, aren’t easy tasks at this altitude.

Also, know that the stadium’s horseshoe design proves to be a disadvantage for fans in the 500 level: If you’ve ascended on, say, the east side of the stadium only to find your section is on the west side, you’ll only be able to walk one direction because the concourse doesn’t extend around the south side of the venue.

Most of what makes the Broncos’ stadium unique lies within the seating bowl, from the wave-like design of the upper seating bowl meant to invoke the Rocky Mountains, to the statue of Bucky the Bronco , a relic of the old Mile High Stadium, that sits atop the main videoboard on the stadium’s south side.

Also, be sure to note the Broncos’ Ring of Fame , which lines the facade of the upper deck.

Food and drink at Empower Field

The stadium’s concessions menu reveals few unique surprises, though new items continue to be rolled out . All-you-can-drink soda is offered at the numerous “5280 Favorites” stands, and deli sandwiches, street tacos and cheesesteaks are among the more popular items.

The Broncos have also introduced the “ Bud Light Rooftop ,” a pair of lounges on the 500 seating level of the stadium for fans to hang out and enjoy a drink or two.

Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium Denver Colorado

Empower Field at Mile High – Denver

Formerly Invesco Field at Mile High, then Sports Authority Field at Mile High, now called Empower Field at Mile High through 2039. Commonly known as Mile High Stadium, it’s located just west of downtown Denver, though not quite walking distance like the Ball Arena or Coors Field.

The stadium is visible from Interstate 25 when looping around the city. To reach it, take exit 211/23rd Avenue west from I-25, toward the mountains. Take a left on Clay Street, which will connect with Mile High Stadium Circle. You can’t miss the big manmade landmark.

There was a previous field known as Mile High Stadium located at 2755 West 17th Avenue, though the current Mile High at 1701 Bryant Street, replaced its use. The original Mile High Stadium was previously called Bears Stadium and hosted the Denver Bears baseball team from 1948-1968. It also hosted the Denver Broncos from their 1960 start in the AFL through 2000.

Construction of the new stadium ran from 1999 to 2001 and cost $400.8 million at the time. Invesco Field at Mile High first opened in 2001 and became the new home of the Denver Broncos NFL team. It took on the Sports Authority Field moniker in 2011.

The company Sports Authority was liquidated in 2016, though the name stayed until 2018. It was known as Broncos Stadium at Mile High for 2018 and the start of the 2019 season until a deal was signed with Empower Retirement. Empower Field at Mile High came about in 2019.

The stadium has a seating capacity of 76,125. It hosts 132 executive suites. For concerts is can host up to 60,000 screaming fans. The surface of the field is Kentucky Bluegrass. Big-name artists that performed at Mile High include Justin Bieber and Kenny Chesney. They also host events such as monster truck Monster Jam and dirt bikes AMA Supercross.

Home Teams: Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos professional football team runs its season from September to January. With such a limited number of games, compared to a sport like basketball (Nuggets) or hockey (Avalanche), tickets tend to be pricier, but worth it for the experience. And get there early to tail-gate, which is the best before a football game.

The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame is located at Mile High Stadium. Discover its colorful exhibits year-round. You can even arrange behind-the-scenes tours of Empower Field at Mile High Stadium.

Football fans won't want to pass up the chance to spend some time on the Denver Broncos' home turf. Empower Field at Mile High can hold more than 76,000 NFL fans and is notable for its elevation, which sits at 5,280 feet above sea level. That, combined with the view of the Rocky Mountains to the west and the Denver skyline to the east, makes it a unique venue to visit.

If you can swing it, try to catch a home game. Ticket prices vary by game and availability, and you'll want to purchase your seats well in advance to ensure availability. If you can't make it to a game, you can tag along on a guided tour of the stadium. Led by employees from the on-site Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Museum (one of the stops on the tour), these 75- to 90-minute tours take participants to the visiting teams' locker rooms, the end zone as well as into the network television production compound and the TV and radio broadcast facilities. Recent visitors described the tour experience as incredible thanks to the knowledgeable guides.

Tour times change with the seasons, but tickets cost $40 for adults and $35 for seniors and children ages 6 to 12; kids ages 5 and younger can tag along for free. Although you don't need reservations, all tours are subject to availability, so your best bet would be to reserve them in advance through the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Museum . And for more information on game schedules and ticket prices, visit Empower Field's  website . You'll find the stadium at the intersection of Federal Boulevard and West Colfax Avenue on the southern end of the Riverfront neighborhood. It’s accessible from E and W trams at the stadium stop.

Denver Broncos Stadium Tour – Great Fun For Anyone

January 7, 2019 By stephen Leave a Comment

What do you get someone who’s a huge LA Rams fan for their birthday?

Why, a tour of the Denver Broncos stadium of course 😉

Shae’s Dad came to visit us in Denver for the week leading up to Christmas which coincided with his birthday. Even though he’s been a Rams fan for decades, we took him on a Broncos stadium tour as we thought he’d love it anyway.

If you ever find yourself in the mile-high city, here’s why you too should go on a Denver Broncos stadium tour.

Denver Broncos Stadium

Colorado Sports Hall Of Fame

The tour itself is run by the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame rather than the Denver Broncos organization. As a result, 80% of the proceeds from ticket sales go to local non-profits.

The Hall of Fame is located in the stadium and we had a few minutes to look around before the tour began.

Denver Broncos Stadium Tour - Colorado Sports Hall Of Fame

Our first stop on the tour was one of the luxury suites. These are only found on levels 2 and 4, with levels 1, 3 and 5 only featuring outdoor seating.

I don’t think any of us had ever seen an NFL game in person, so the first thing we noticed when entering the suite was how small the football field looked. 100 yards appears to be a much shorter distance in person compared to seeing it on TV.

The field consists of 100% Kentucky blue grass which keeps it green. There’s 21 miles of hot water piped 4 inches below the field, preventing it from freezing over.

Denver Broncos Stadium Tour - View of the field from a party suite

We had an excellent tour guide called Steve and he shared some figures for how much suites can cost. Pricing for suites is based on what type of game it is – pre-season, regular season or premium (e.g. games against rivals, playoffs, etc.)

The smallest party suite can hold up to 20 people and comes with 5 parking passes that usually cost $50 per pass. Reserving one of these suites would cost you ~$15,000 for a pre-season game or ~$25,000 for a regular season game. Even more crazily, those figures don’t include any food or beverage – those costs are negotiated separately!

Denver Broncos Stadium Tour - Party Suite

Corporations can also reserve larger executive suites. This requires a 5 year commitment, with one company paying up to $300,000 per year for 10 games and which includes space for up to 45 people. With an average food and beverage cost of $60 per person, that effectively comes to ~$725 per person per game.

Old Stadium Vs New Stadium

The current Denver Broncos stadium has the capacity to hold 76,125 people. That’s only two more people than the old stadium which held 76,123.

While on the tour, we walked past a photo taken of the two stadiums side-by-side before the old one was demolished. It’s hard to believe that the stadium on the right only holds two extra spectators, but it’s because it contains three times the space for concessions and restrooms, as well as more suites, room for press, larger team locker rooms, etc. They didn’t want to increase the spectator capacity so that fans could be as close to the action as possible.

The new stadium cost $400 million to build. $250 million came from a 1c sales tax increase (which Denver residents voted for), with the other $150 million coming from the Broncos organization. Unfortunately for John Elway, he retired as quarterback before the new stadium opened, so he never got to play on the new field.

Denver Broncos Stadium Tour - Old Broncos stadium vs new Broncos stadium

Our tour guide shared that they weren’t able to demolish the old stadium by using dynamite (or whatever’s used to knock buildings down) as the blast would’ve also demolished the windows of the new stadium. They therefore had to tear it down much more carefully, with the process taking three months.

In its place, they’ve built a small replica that you can check out at the end of the main stadium tour. The Mile High Monument “seats” 298 people, but we had it to ourselves during our visit.

Denver Broncos Stadium Tour - Replica of the old Mile High Stadium

The Mile High Monument can be found in the stadium parking lot and appeared to be open throughout the day. It therefore seems to be something you can check out for free even if you don’t go on an official tour.

Behind The Scenes

The tour took us through several areas behind the scenes. One of those was the booth where Fox had broadcast the game against the Browns the previous week.

When a network is due to broadcast a game, they show up three days beforehand to set up cameras around the stadium. For regular season games they tend to use 25 cameras; for post-season games they use closer to 35.

Denver Broncos Stadium Tour - The TV broadcasting booth

We got to go inside and see how little personal space the presenters get which is something I’ve never really paid attention to when watching a game. The windows are left open during a game (presumably to help capture some of the atmosphere), even when it’s less than 20°F outside.

Denver Broncos Stadium Tour - Inside the TV broadcasting booth

Next up was John Elway’s suite. After a successful career with the Broncos, he’s now their General Manager and so gets his own private suite.

Denver Broncos Stadium Tour - John Elway's suite

A little further along was the press box. This area was enormous and stretched far around the stadium. Despite the amount of space allocated for press, there’s usually only ~120 people which is barely half full. The reason they have so much space is because it’s needed for post-season games. When the Denver Broncos played the New England Patriots in the post-season a couple of years ago, there were 411 people in the press box.

Denver Broncos Stadium Tour - Denver Broncos field

In the above photo, you can see a statue of a Bronco atop the stadium at the far side. The Broncos had a competition to name the 30 foot, 1 ton statue, with the winner getting two season tickets for life.

When the winning name – Bucko – was announced over the loudspeaker during a game, the crowd booed. They ended up renaming the statue Bucky, but the person who’d submitted the Bucko name still got to keep their season tickets.

Other Lounges & Suites

The Champions Club is the only private suite with outdoor seating. Access to this suite is reserved for people invited by the Broncos organization. Corporate sponsors get some tickets, former players who were with the Denver Broncos for 5+ years get some, business leaders, politicians, etc. get the rest.

Denver Broncos Stadium Tour - Champions Club

Season ticket holders wanting a more premium experience can pay $375 for access to the Club Level Lounge, although this requires a 5 year contract.

Denver Broncos Stadium Tour - Club Level Lounge

The cost of food and drink isn’t included in that $375, but you do have access to a giant fireplace which is probably worth the price in the winter 😉

Denver Broncos Stadium Tour - Fireplace in the Club Level Lounge

Locker Rooms

One of our final stops on the tour was the visitors locker room. We went on the tour a few days before Christmas, so it was kitted out for a Christmas function rather than an opposing team.

Denver Broncos Stadium Tour - Visitors locker room

Visitors aren’t allowed in the Denver Broncos locker room, so we were shown photos instead. Interestingly, the two sets of locker rooms are laid out differently. The Broncos locker room is a wide open space where everyone can see each other. The locker room for the visiting team on the other hand has some corners, ensuring they can’t all see each other.

There’s also a big size difference – the Denver Broncos locker room is 7,500 sq ft, whereas visitors only have 3,600 sq ft.

Denver Broncos Stadium Tour - Broncos locker room

The stadium is known as Mile High Stadium as it’s 5,280 ft above sea level. This means there’s 20% less oxygen in the air which normally takes 5 weeks to adjust to.

As a result, off to the side of the locker room was a training room. This contained taping benches, tables for players requiring IV hydration, ice baths for muscle cramping, etc. Just what you want after playing in freezing temperatures – a nice, warm ice bath.

Denver Broncos Stadium Tour - Ice baths

Denver Broncos Football Field

The final stop on the tour took us through the visiting team’s tunnel and out to the field.

Other Stats

I love facts and figures, so here were some other interesting things we learned:

  • Season Tickets – The Denver Broncos have had a 95% season ticket holder rate since 1970. There are 84,000 people on a waiting list, so it’s a 12-15 year wait. I asked our tour guide if you can sign up babies and he said you can. Apparently one person on a tour he gave was signed up for a Green Bay Packers season ticket when he was 1 month old. He’s now 57, so a 12-15 wait for a Broncos season ticket doesn’t seem so bad!
  • Broncos Valuation – The current owner Pat Bowlen paid $78 million for the Broncos in 1984. It’s now valued at $2.6 billion.
  • Employees – On game day, you can expect there to be 3,500 employees working in the Denver Broncos stadium.
  • Video Board – The Broncos have the 9th largest video board in the NFL. It’s 8,800 square feet and cost $10 million.
  • Cheerleaders – 300 people participate in cheerleading tryouts each year. 26 make it for one season, then they have to reapply the following year if they want to return. Their earnings? $200 per game.
  • Beer – Fans get through 800 kegs on game day, with 3 miles of beer lines running throughout the stadium to serve it.
  • Jail Cells – In case fans enjoy too much beer, there are two jail cells in the stadium, both of which hold four people.
  • Broncos Sculpture – Out the front of the stadium is a bronze sculpture of some broncos. This was a gift from the owner Pat Bowlen to the people of Denver. It was sculpted in Italy and cost $2 million.

Final Thoughts

The three of us had a wonderful time on the Denver Broncos stadium tour. Our tour guide Steve was fantastic and extremely knowledgeable. We also lucked out on our 90 minute tour as we were the only three people in the group.

If you visit Denver, we highly recommend taking the tour, even if you’re not a Broncos fan.

Ticket Prices

We paid $25 per person for the tour which is the standard adult rate. You can get tickets for $20 if you’re a senior aged 65+, military with ID or are a child aged 6-12. Children under 5 are free with a paying adults, while groups of 25+ can get in for $12 per person.

Although parking costs $50 on game day, it’s free when taking a tour during the week. Park on the west side of the stadium, to the left of the gift shop (where you can buy all things orange and blue).

Broncos training camp: Fan attendance schedule, parking and details

D ENVER (KDVR) — The 2024 Denver Broncos training camp is scheduled to start Friday, July 26, and the team has scheduled 16 open practices where fans can get up close to their favorite players at the newly rebranded Broncos Park Powered by CommonSpirit.

The team noted they have more open practices this year than in 2023 when they only offered 12. It’s also far more than in 2019 when the team put a pause on allowing fans at practices, and player autographs will also be allowed — also something paused for health protocols.

The Broncos training camp includes family-friendly activities, like new uniform showcases. On select days, there will be appearances from alumni of the team, Miles, Thunder, the Stampede, the Broncos cheerleaders and DJ Squizzy, as well as face painting.

Player autographs will be allowed following every practice, and fans will also have access to food trucks, free water and more.

Additionally, because Ford is the presenting partner of the training camp, fans who show their Ford key fob at the Broncos Team Store will get 15% off their total purchases during Training Camp. The first 30 fans who present their Ford fobs at the “Ford Fast Pass Tent” before gates open will be given entry before the general public and the opportunity to sit in the front row.

Seating will be the same as in previous years: Fans can get a close view of training camp with seats on the berm located along the west sideline of the practice fields. There is limited parking on-site that will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis, so fans are encouraged to take other ride options — like Uber or Lyft.

Fans are also subject to the Broncos’ stadium bag policy, which allows for one small, clear plastic or vinyl bag no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches.

Where, when and how to buy tickets

The training camp is free to attend. Fans who want to attend will need to claim free mobile tickets, which will be available on Ticketmaster starting Thursday, June 27, at 10 a.m. Fans are allowed to claim up to four free tickets per person.

Broncos season ticket holders get a first chance at tickets starting Wednesday, accessible to those fans through their personal Ticketmaster accounts, according to a Broncos release.

Most of the practices start at 10 a.m. and last about two hours. The gates will open for fans at 9 a.m. and parking lots will open at 8 a.m.

To ensure every fan who wants to attend the Broncos training camp has the opportunity to get tickets, fans can reserve “up to eight practices during the first 48 hours of availability before all practices are available.” The Broncos’ training camp website landing page and social media pages will have the most updated ticket availability, according to the team.

Fans who get tickets but cannot attend are also encouraged to return their tickets via [email protected] up to 30 minutes after the start of practice each day. Once a ticket is returned, another fan can claim the ticket and attend camp.

The official Broncos Training Camp schedule

Training camp will start July 26 at 10 a.m. Here’s a look at the full schedule:

How Much Does it Cost to Attend a Denver Broncos Game?

While the Denver defense is often the talk of the football town, most fans expect to see great quarterback play from their beloved broncos. From Elway to Cutler to Manning, the franchise carries a historic trend of fielding some of the NFL’s best quarterbacks. While this year has had its ups and down in that position recently, you can be reasonably sure to find ticket prices proportional to quarterback play.

If you are not a believer of this ticket theory, look at what the Broncos have done over the past 2 years when it comes to fielding a team without a notable star quarterback – they have frozen them. A disappointing 2017 season can be to blame, but since Peyton Manning hung up his cleats ticket prices have remained stagnant. This both good and bad for the fans. Those who are hoping for a ticket to see the Broncos play in the Super Bowl are glad to pay $50 more for a single regular game ticket.

Tickets have held the same price over the past two years.

You can expect to pay right around the NFL average of $101 for a ticket to a Denver Broncos football game. If you are looking for a better seat, you can expect to spend more than $200 as the average ticket price including luxury seats sits at $190. End zone seats can be the best – or the worst – depending on what side of the field the best action takes place. Whatever you think of the current ticket prices, they will definitely be on the rise once the Broncos find the thus far elusive franchise quarterback for the next decade. You are likely to find discounted tickets online if they fall out of playoff contention later in the year, so if you just like to watch professional football there may be opportunities in December for cheap seats.

Concessions are priced below the league average

The first thing you need to know about getting anything from concessions at Mile High Stadium is it all depends where you are at. Level 100 has the biggest variety of food and drink items, while Level 3 has the fewest with 8 concession offerings. It might be best to arrive early and wander around to find the best variety of food. As for the prices, $6.50 for a basic beer and $5 for a hot dog ranks the stadium’s overall cost for a single game below the league average. If it is the typical winter season in Denver, you are likely to spend a lot more on drinks that are hot and food that won’t turn cold on you in 30 seconds. Though many sports stadiums allow you to bring in some food and beverages, Mile High Stadium is one place where you scratch your head at this money saving strategy.

Parking prices are evenhanded.

The stadium lot parking is offered on a first come-first served basis. The lot prices range from $15 to $30, though for the most part you can expect to pay more along the lines of $30. The stadium lots open at 8 a.m., and getting there early is not the worst idea you may have had. With a stadium capacity exceeding 60,000, you may find yourself having to park away from the stadium and get some exercise walking. If you want to minimize your walking time, you can try to get a spot at 3120 Mile High Stadium Circle for the bargain price of $60. That has you walking just a couple of minutes instead of the many 25 minute walking alternatives that cost the average price of $20 for a single game.

What's the Average Cost?

The total cost for two tickets, two beers, two hot dogs, and one parking spot is about $135. Though that is in the bottom half of all NFL franchises, it actually is cheap when you consider that even in the bad years the team can be expected to put up a fight – especially against division rivals. It’s not like they’re the Cleveland Browns (of yesteryear).

Of course, the disclaimer here has to be when the Broncos draft their next franchise quarterback which will result in an expected increase of ticket prices. Though this article was designed to be a comparative measure for all 32 NFL teams, it should be climate controlled. Broncos fans should no more be expected to eat a hot dog in mid-winter than Dolphin fans should be drinking hot chocolate in December.

After that there will be 15 more practices fans can attend through Aug. 16. That last practice will be a joint practice with the Green Bay Packers.

It's normal for the Broncos to play their first preseason game before training camp practices are over. This year the Broncos will be playing an away game in Week 1 of the preseason against the Indianapolis Colts on Aug. 11 . There will be three more practices after that game. Their second preseason game is against the Packers and it's at home. The final training camp practice is two days before that game at Empower Field at Mile High.

The Broncos are in a full rebuild after an NFL offseason that included parting ways with several veterans, including quarterback Russell Wilson , safety Justin Simmons and wide receiver Jerry Jeudy . Training camp this year will offer fans to see young players who will have a chance at starring roles in the future on the team coached by Sean Payton.

Fans who wish to attend a training camp practice can do so for free, but tickets are required for entry. Fans can get tickets on Ticketmaster.com starting on Thursday morning. Get more information about that at denverbroncos.com .

Recap: Broncos Stadium at Mile High Tour

About the tour:

This exciting tour of Denver’s pride and joy,  Broncos Stadium at Mile High was on  Tuesday, April 9, 2019. We enjoyed the half-mile professionally guided walking tour that included stops at the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Museum, the Executive Suite and United Club Level. Tour-goers also had a special opportunity to peek into the Visiting Locker Room and Keg Room, spaces typically not open to the general public. Some superfans even jumped for joy (or busted a move) as we paused by the End Zone. Other highlights included a trip to the Television Truck Production Area and the Press Center. It’s always football season in Broncos Country!

About the site:

Mile High Stadium has served as the home to many great Bronco teams and players for four memorable decades. Its history goes back to 1948, when private funds were used to build a stadium for the Denver Bears (baseball) and the local football team. A hill at 19th and Clay Street was selected as the site for the construction of a ballpark. Built of mainly bleachers it was originally known as Bears Stadium. By the time Denver’s football team became part of the AFL, the 17,000-seat capacity of Bears Stadium was too small. In order to satisfy the Broncos, the capacity of Bears Stadium was increased to nearly 34,000 in 1960.

The Denver Broncos played their first game at the stadium on October 2, 1960 against the Oakland Raiders. Over its 40 year history, Mile High Stadium underwent many additions. Built in time for the start of the 1968 season, a 16,000-seat upper deck was constructed over the west stands, raising the stadium’s capacity to more than 50,000. After the 1968 season, Bears Stadium was renamed Mile High Stadium.

Mile High Stadium was closed in 2001, and the Denver Broncos moved to neighboring Broncos Stadium at Mile High (then known as Invesco Field at Mile High) upon completion of the new stadium. The demolition of Mile High Stadium began in January 2002 and was completed by April. The former stadium is now a parking lot for Broncos Stadium at Mile High.
