Enjoy afternoon tea in London

Sample over 300-years of history in the simplicity of homemade scones with whipped cream and jam. This deliciously British treat is best enjoyed in the afternoon, complete with a hot cup of Earl Grey, cucumber sandwiches and a tower of sugary delights.

Explore ancient Athens

You don't need to be a historian to appreciate the significance of Athens. Your love affair with the city might begin with goddess Athena’s Parthenon temple and the ruins of Acropolis, but it’s likely to end in a quaint alleyway getting a glimpse at daily life in this ancient capital. The story of Athens continues to unfold.

Catch a flamenco show in Spain

Discover the soul-stirring emotion of a Flamenco show in Spain. This expressive art-form has an intangible cultural heritage recognised by UNESCO, merging song, dance and musical instruments into a performance that has to be experienced at least once. Finish with dinner of paella or tapas to round off your perfect evening.

View the Northern Lights in Iceland

Mother Nature’s wonders come to life with the Aurora Borealis or ‘Northern Lights’. In the frosty landscapes of Iceland, this light display offers viewers a genuine pinch-me moment as vivid colours dance across the night sky.

Spend a night at the opera in Vienna

Hear the talents of traditional opera with the ghosts of Mozart and Strauss in your presence. Though there are more than few places to catch the opera in Vienna, none can compare to the State Opera House (Staatsoper).

Our top 5 things to do in Europe & Britain

There are endless pinch-me moments to be found across the many countries that make up our Europe travel packages. But where to even begin? Perhaps a Flamenco show in Spain, afternoon tea in London or a Northern Lights viewing in frosty Iceland? Here are some of the highlights of our Europe and Britain trips that you're sure to love.

Paris, France

The world’s largest gallery and the home of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, the Louvre is without rival in the art world and is a must see when in Paris. Allow an entire day to explore its eight departments, not missing the Egyptian antiquities, Islamic art and various halls of sculptures. End your day with sunset by the Louvre Pyramid.

London, England

The British Museum

With some eight million works within its permanent collection, The British Museum is an illustrious European landmark. Admire objects brought back from the voyages of Captain James Cook and walk in the controversial presence of the Parthenon Marbles.

Florence, Italy

Uffizi Gallery

The Tuscan capital is home to Uffizi Gallery, where the brushworks of art’s true masters can be found. Names like Raffaello, Leonardo, and Michelangelo fill Uffizi’s grand pink walls, whilst internal courtyards leading to the Arno River reveal the building’s architectural brilliance.

Best museums in Europe & Britain

When traveling Europe with Trafalgar, museum hopping is one of the best ways to understand the culture and history of the places you visit. You’ll find yourself critiquing ancient art and staring in awe at some of the world’s most prominent works. Here are some of our favorites.

Paella Valenciana

Saffron, snails, butterbeans and bomba rice are just some of the ingredients you might find in traditional Spanish paella. Despite originating from the coastal town of Valencia, Paella Valenciana is a variety without seafood. You'll love sitting back to enjoy a steaming plate over the sounds of Spanish jazz in a lively alfresco restaurant.

Beef Stroganoff

Now a staple dish in many parts of the world, beef stroganoff is best enjoyed in its birthplace in Russia with a vodka in hand. This simple dish of beef strips sauteed in a sour cream sauce offers a heart-warming taste of this country’s culinary heritage.

Bouillabaisse

The Mediterranean city of Marseille is where a French culinary icon can be found and devoured. The fragrant stew of bouillabaisse, commonly served with crusty white bread, boils up the finest local seafood and seasonal vegetables with the flavors of fennel, saffron and cayenne pepper.

Best food in Europe & Britain

Our trips to Europe gravitate around indulgent local mealtimes. With new cuisines and cooking methodologies found at every turn, this continent is simply delicious.

What to pack for a tour in Europe

People packing for a tour

With such a large expanse of space to explore on a European travel tour, on some days, long journeys are unavoidable. The scenery will provide plenty of visual entertainment, while headphones can be used to listen to some local music or enjoy podcasts about European history, culture and politics when you're not enjoying the storytelling from your Travel Director.

A good book

Exploring Europe is best done at a relaxed pace with ample opportunity to absorb your surroundings. Dedicate a few days to sitting in a park or a cafe, alternating between reading and watching the world go by.

Versatile shoes

Within the space of one outing you may experience all kinds of terrain when in Europe. Pack shoes that can see you walking from an elegant restaurant to a cobbled footpath, with a stroll along the soft grass of a park in between.

A blank journal

With the wealth of inspiration tucked into every corner of Europe, you may find yourself compelled to write down notes or memories. At the very least to share recommendations with friends when you return home.

All climate clothing

No matter the time of year you travel, Europe can deliver a myriad of temperatures. From frosty cities of Scandinavia to the temperate hills of Portugal, layered clothing best suits the varying micro-climates across this continent.

Pack for sustainable travel

Consider your environmental impact when you next take a trip and go single-use-plastic-free by packing a reusable water bottle, a steel straw, your own shopping bags and refillable toiletry bottles.

THIS IS WHAT AWAITS IN EUROPE

Towering castles. Untamed natural beauty. Captivating history. Can’t-miss cuisine. This is your time, your moment, your chance to discover Europe.

Destination Must-Sees

Greece Must see takeover

One of the most well-known tourist destinations in Greece, Olympia is located in the western Peloponnese, known as the “Valley of the Gods.” Surrounded by beautiful scenery from the Arcadian Mountains, it is home of the first Olympic Games that were held in 776 B. Step into history when you walk through the ruins of the ancient Olympic stadium or witness amazing sculptures at the museum.

paris europe mustsees

France’s romantic capital is a must-see destination, and a gorgeous gateway to the wonders the rest of this country has to offer. Whether your ideal Parisian getaway has you spending some free time sipping coffee at a café and watching the bustling city life, roaming the halls of art at the Louvre, or exploring the bohemian artist’s haven — the Montmartre neighborhood, there’s rich history and culture abound in every corner of the City of Light.

Europe ms1

Irish countryside:

Take in the atmosphere of quaint seaside villages, see awe inspiring views of the Lakes of Killarney and explore the picturesque town of Kinsale. Wherever you travel in the countryside, you’ll find that the rolling hills and friendly people you encounter will become a part of your fabric.

Europe ms2

Ancient cities of Italy:

Italy is positively brimming with the world’s most famous Roman ruins like the Colosseum, Pompeii and many other relics from the ancient past. In fact, many cities in Italy still hold evidence of what once was. You can find an aqueduct, city gate, Roman theater or the ruins of an entire city there.

Destination Must-Dos

Greece Must dos takeoverv2

Meteora Monastery:

Over 600 years ago Byzantine monks chose to build their monastic community atop limestone rock “towers” that extend nearly 900 feet into the air, making them virtually inaccessible. It is one of the greatest monuments in the world, and is the most important monastic center in Greece. You can climb these rocks and travel the paths hidden behind the massive rocks.

Palace of Versailles France2022

The Palace of Versailles

The iconic Palace of Versailles (UNESCO) and its gardens reflect the extravagant tastes of King Louis XIV, the "Sun King." Alongside a local guide, learn the history and admire the various rooms of the State Apartments, including the Queen's bedchamber and the famous Hall of Mirrors. Be sure to explore the incredible gardens, some of the most famous in the world, which took over 40 years to complete and include intricate architecture, elaborate fountains, and gorgeous statues.

Europe md2

Drift down a canal:

While canals are found across Europe, nothing beats a romantic gondola ride in Venice. Locals like to say the best way to explore the city is to ‘get lost.’ So take a ride along these waterways, step off and then wind your way through the intricate blend of bridges, narrow streets and grand squares.

Spain md4

This was the first capital of Spain located about 43 miles south of Madrid. The history of Toledo dates back to the Roman occupation circa 192 B.C. The old city of Toledo sits atop of a small mountain surrounded on three sides by the Tagus River, and medieval walls on the fourth. From the top of the mountain you can get a 180 degree view of the surrounding landscape.

Magnificent landscapes combined with the country’s charming traditions and customs offer new experiences unlike anywhere else in the world. Famous for bullfighting, Spain allows you to grab life by the horns and dive into adventure. Whether it’s the eye-catching architecture of Madrid, the bold Spanish wines, or the shimmering Costa del Sol, this country remains a delight to the senses. Once you experience Spain, you’ll never want to leave and when you do, you’ll always be craving more.

Whether it’s old-world traditions and wonderful culture, cuisine, history, fashion or natural beauty, Italy is special to many people for different reasons. Few other countries boast so many legendary cities. There are also many charming hill towns and coastal villages that showcase Italy’s amazing natural beauty. From the big cities to the small towns, there is always something exciting to see in Italy. With so many reasons to visit, the rest is up to you!

A rendezvous with a magnifique experience awaits! As cliché as it sounds, France truly has something for everyone. With over two dozen cities, each with their own nuances of the French culture and contributions to its history, architecture, art and last but not least, the gastronomical delights that the French are famous for throughout the world are yours to explore, experience and fall in love with during your stay. Coast to coast, border to border, there are seemingly endless variations on your French experience to be had. Rolling hills and scenic valleys lined with the fruit of the gods; seaside towns, along sandy beaches with views you just might be sharing with royalty; or maybe snowcapped mountain ranges providing some of the best skiing in the world and an adrenaline rush to match is what you seek. Whatever you decide, France easily makes you feel as if you have stepped out of reality and into the art you learned about and loved since you were a child.

A gem of the Iberian Peninsula, Portugal is a paradise. On the coasts, sun-soaked beaches meet breathtaking hillside towns all down the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. In the cities, ancient structures rise up shoulder-to-shoulder with modern living. Everywhere you turn, you can find mouth-watering food paired with delicious local wines, medieval architecture paired with Moorish artistic influence, and friendly locals paired with charming attitudes. No matter what you seek, when you go, where you look, or how long you stay, Portugal offers something for every traveler.

At the heart of Europe, monumental contemporary and historic events shape today’s Germany. From the fall of the Berlin Wall to the rise of the Beatles in Hamburg, the culture of the country is marked by its influential past and present. Imagine yourself exploring postcard-worthy castles such as Neuschwanstein or wandering through medieval cities such as Regensburg. From the Bavarian Alps to the Rhine Gorge to the plains of the north, the range of Germany’s landscapes will capture your heart. Perhaps you’ll also indulge your taste buds as you sample the delicious Marzipan sweet treats of the Hanseatic port of Lubeck, which have been produced there for over 200 years. Whether on a journey on the ‘Romantic Road’ or cruising along the Rhine, know that a stein of German beer or a glass of wine from the Rhine vineyards are both a worthy compliment to a destination that offers far more than the average traveler anticipates.

Switzerland

Incredible skiing on the Swiss Alps and delectable Swiss chocolate are only two reasons for visiting Switzerland. Located between Austria, France, Germany and Italy, you can get quite a diverse European cultural experience depending on which region of Switzerland you choose. And though the food, music, art and people themselves are very much influenced by their European neighbors, they are all still uniquely Swiss. You will leave with plenty of memories to savor for a lifetime.

Listen for the music of the great classical composers. Seek out grand capitals and wide boulevards. Austria travel takes you to fairytale landscapes and glorious castles. You are in Austria, a country that brings together a distinct culture with a diverse landscape.

Do you need a visa to travel to Europe?

Whether or not you need a visa to travel to European countries largely depends on the nationality on your passport and whether the country you're traveling to is part of the Schengen Agreement.

This agreement sees 26 European countries offer visa-free travel to nationals from 60 other countries including Australia, the United States, Canada, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

To determine whether the country you're traveling to requires a visa, head to the   Schengen Visa's information website.

What is the internet access like in Europe?

You can easily access the internet in most countries in Europe, generally in capital cities and other major towns. Internet access may be limited in regional locations such as national parks or remote villages in some countries.

Can I use my cell phone in Europe?

You shouldn't have a problem using your cell phone while traveling throughout Europe, however, your international data roaming will need to be activated in order to connect to the internet or send messages (unless you connect to the local wi-fi).

What are the toilets like in Europe?

Modern, flushable toilets are the standard in the majority of European countries.

Can I drink the water in Europe?

Tap water in most European countries is considered safe to drink unless it is otherwise marked.

When should I book a tour in Europe?

There is no 'best time' to travel around Europe as most countries offer plenty to do in every season of the year.

T he most popular time to travel to countries like Greece, Italy, and Croatia is during the summer months (June, July, and August) so you can make the most of each country's respective beaches and warm weather.

C ountries such as Iceland, Norway, and Sweden are known for their snowy landscapes and northern lights sightings during Winter (December, January, and February).

How much does a Europe tour cost?

A tour in Europe can vary depending on the countries you want to visit, the style of tour, and how long you want to go for but you can expect to pay anywhere between USD$1,000 to USD$5,000, with most tours around USD$2,500.

Is tipping common in Europe?

Tipping isn't as prevalent in Europe as it is in some other countries and definitely isn't expected, but if you like the quality of service you've been given at hotels, restaurants etc then a tip is always appreciated.

Are credit cards widely accepted in Europe?

While credit cards are accepted in all European countries (especially in capital cities and other larger cities), smaller cafes or local run businesses may not have EFTPOS machines so it's always best to carry around a little cash to cover these expenses.

What is ATM access like in Europe?

You should have no problem finding ATMs in most European cities.

What currency will I need on a Europe tour?

The official currency of Europe is the Euro (€), however, only 19 of the 28 countries in the European Union use this. Countries that still use their own currency include Norway, Switzerland, Belarus, Croatia, Denmark, and Sweden.

Is Europe safe for LGBTQIA+ travelers?

Europe is considered a reasonably safe continent for LGBTQIA+ travelers with plenty of countries openly accepting, welcoming, and embracing the community.

This is evident in large capital cities such as Paris, Berlin, Madrid, and Vienna.

Some countries still hold traditional religious beliefs such as Belarus and Poland so a degree of caution should be taken when travelling around cities and remote regions in those countries.

Will I need a socket adapter for Europe?

If you plan on traveling to multiple countries throughout Europe then purchasing an all-in-one, worldwide adapter is the safest way to go.

I f you don't want to do that, your safest bet is to buy an adapter that uses C or E/F-type plugs as most European countries recognize this.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance before traveling?

Absolutely. All passengers traveling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

For more information on insurance, please go to: Travel Insurance

Are Intrepid trips accessible for travellers with disabilities?

We are always happy to talk to travellers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them toward the most suitable itinerary for their needs and, where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.

The best tours to book for the ultimate European escape

Experience Italy’s culinary magic, Portugal’s flower festivals, the magic of Slovenia’s Lake Bled – and more – with our unique European tours

bikes by the canal on a sunny summer day in amsterdam, netherlands

Certain times of the year conjure dreams of certain types of holiday ─ like the allure of the Alps in autumn when everyone’s gearing up for their ski holidays, or city breaks in spring.

When you’re forward-planning, it can be hard to decide on one single place with so many enticing options to choose from. Especially if you want to pack in as much culture and sightseeing as possible. And with seasons to contend with, you want to be mindful of the weather, especially if you’re looking to explore the lakes of Slovenia, say, or the mountains of Switzerland.

Our tours in Europe bookend some pretty fantastic experiences, too, with free time in which to explore your destination for the night, cultural guided tours around major attractions, and events like wine tastings, flower festivals and music concerts. And if you’re struggling to pick one, you could even combine a few for an uber-indulgent, ultimate tour of Europe spread over the year.

For a 2024 trip with like-minded people, see our collection of favourite escorted Europe tours, below.

Switzerland

red bernina express train in the snowy landscape, chapella, switzerland

Right in the heart of Europe, Switzerland is a small country with boundless beauty. On the one hand you have the mighty snow-capped mountains – which morph from wintry wonderlands to summery scenes so colourful you might expect Julie Andrews to sing her way around every corner.

On the other, you get luxury hotels on shimmering lakes, fairytale towns with medieval streets to wander, and the lush ranges of the Jura. There are some fantastic ways to experience Switzerland – lake cruises are popular, as are road trips – but perhaps one of the loveliest ways to take in that scenery is by train, traversing peaks, ravines and dramatic passes along the way.

We recommend… a luxury take on the Alps and lakes

Enjoy the Swiss Alps up close with this five-day escorted group tour , which features a three-course lunch on the Glacier Express, cruises on Lake Thun and Lake Lucerne, and four nights at the Hotel Metropole in Interlaken.

sevilla, plaza de espana

From city breaks in Barcelona to family activities in the Balearics, holidays to Spain aren’t just about kicking back on the beach. Each region has a distinct personality that sets it apart from its neighbour, offering travellers a wonderfully broad scope of holidays to pick from – every time they visit.

Some love the warm, sunny costas of Valencia, or the mountainous Pyrenees of Aragon, while others might opt to explore the foodie hotspots of Pais Vasco, or the architectural splendour of Andalucía. Home to Seville, flamenco, the Sierra de Andújar National Park, and incredible wildlife – like the endangered Iberian lynx – Andalucía is perhaps one of the most exciting regions of Spain, and is as ideal for returning holidaymakers as it is for first-timers.

We recommend… seeking wildlife and culture in Andalucía

If you’re after a broad taste of this wonderful region, consider mixing history and architecture with foodie forays and wildlife-spotting experiences on this four-night escorted tour .

For those looking to bank a few more cultural moments, this small-group, six-day tour of Andalucía encompasses buzzy tapas bars, a flamenco performance, horse shows, wine tasting and so much more.

tourist walking in the picturesque village of alberobello, puglia, italy

Let it be said that there is nowhere quite like Italy when it comes to food. From Lombardy to Sicily, every region has its culinary trove of epicurean delights – of which every city, town and even rural village has its own take. For instance, in Puglia you might see the same dishes menu to menu, but subtle variations distinguish it from one place to the next, even if that’s down the road.

If food stories are your thing, Puglia should be high on your agenda. Not only does it have a fantastic reputation for serving exceptionally great-tasting plates using fresh, local ingredients and recipes passed down through generations, but it’s also still relatively cheap, especially if you head away from the touristy hotspots. Emilia-Romagna is another fabulous foodie option. Described as the gastronomical city of Italy, Bologna’s regional delicacies include Parmesan, Prosciutto di Parma and Mortadella – firm favourites on the international dining scene.

We recommend… guided gourmet getaways

You can spend six days enjoying the gourmet highlights of beautiful Puglia with this small group tour. You and seven other guests will get to dine at local restaurants, visit a historic bakery, make your own pasta, and attend olive oil tasting sessions, as well as join cultural visits to the ancient cave dwellings of Matera and Trulli of Alberobello.

This six-day tour of Bologna and Modena is perfect for gourmands looking to delve into the culinary heart of Emilia-Romagna, with visits to a Parmesan factory, Balsamic vineyard, and Parma ham producer in Bologna, plus trips to the grand Duomo, Ferrari and Lamborghini museums, and a cookery class in Modena.

lake bled

Slovenia is having a moment. With a consistently growing popularity, travellers are cottoning onto the fact that you can have a magical holiday with everything you want in a typical European destination – but without the crowds.

Beautiful Lake Bled beckons with its emerald waters at the foot of snow-dusted mountains; Ljubljana is uniquely atmospheric with its cobbled streets and cafe culture; caves and canyons are breathtaking in their magnificent size; and there are forests galore to explore. The splendid natural landscapes are certainly something to behold here.

Add to this a melting pot of historical influences and a burgeoning food scene, and you’ll understand why so many in-the-know globetrotters have this European country high on their holiday hotlists.

We recommend… slow, scenic encounters and a focus on cuisine

If you’re looking for more of a gastronomical take on Slovenia, this six-day tour features truffle hunting in Istria, wine tasting in Vipava Valley, herbal tea tasting in Gornji Grad, and a brewery tour (plus tasting) in Kamnik. Add to that, trips to Lake Bled, Tolmin Gorge walks, and cave tours, and you’ll leave with a well-rounded picture of what makes Slovenia so special.

Netherlands

maastricht and maas river around sunset

Famous for its canals, tulips, windmills, clogs and cycling, the allure of the Netherlands is hard to resist. The Dutch country is home to some captivating cities, too – the gabled facades and waterways of Amsterdam , modern architecture of Rotterdam, and the cobbled streets and Gothic spires of Maastricht are all equally as enchanting in their own right.

There’s plenty to keep you busy when it comes to culture, especially in Amsterdam where the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, and Anne Frank House are absolute musts, and the music scene – especially when it comes to classical music concerts and dance shows – is diverse, with events held regularly throughout the country.

We recommend… musical magic in Maastricht

Born in Maastricht, legendary violinist and conductor André Rieu is one of the Netherlands’ home-grown treasures, and you can see the ‘Waltz King’ play on this short two-night tour in July. Eurostar/flights and hotels are also included.

choreographed gardens in the middle of the "jardim botânico da madeira", funchal

With the rolling vineyards of the Douro Valley, the buzz of elegant Lisbon, the natural island beauty of Madeira, and the beautiful beaches of the Algarve, it’s no wonder people return to Portugal time and time again. There really is something for everyone, and that’s before even mentioning its culinary heritage or cultural events.

Cruises will always be one of the most popular traditional ways to experience Portugal, especially Madeira and the Douro Valley. But for those who prefer travelling on terra firma, new hotels pop up all the time, cultural events – like the nail-biting surf championships in Nazaré, or Madeira’s spectacular Flower Festival – attract visitors in their droves, and more ‘out-there’ experiences like soaking in Longroiva’s thermal hot springs keep things interesting.

We recommend… thermal dips and flower festivals

On this eight-day adventure you’ll get to taste wines in the vineyards of the Douro Valley, enjoy a river cruise in Porto, head to Aveiro (the 'Venice of Portugal') to take in the canals, and take a dip in the thermal hot springs of Longroiva.

You could also peg your Portugal trip to the 2024 Flower Festival in Madeira , the 'Floating Garden of the Atlantic'. This eight-day tour includes visits to spectacular spots like Funchal Botanical Gardens and the Quinta do Arco Rose Garden, and you’ll have time to wander around Funchal.

The 15 Best Tour Operators in 2022

These are the companies Travel + Leisure readers trust to provide them with travel expertise and memorable experiences.

best european escorted tours

Note: If you’re looking for our most recent recommendations, check out the 2023 list of our favorite tour operators .

When it comes to an itinerary, Travel + Leisure readers want more than a string of photo opportunities — and the right tour operator makes all the difference in creating a trip of a lifetime versus one that simply checks off a list of sights. This year, our readers were especially drawn to companies that utilize local expertise and experience to thoughtfully design trips that will entertain as well as inspire.

Every year for our World's Best Awards survey , T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Readers rated tour operators and safari outfitters based on their staff and guides, itineraries and destinations, activities, accommodations, food, and overall value.

The top picks were noted for their deep knowledge of destinations and guides who "go the extra mile." One reader who has been traveling for more than five decades said a trip with Classic Journeys (No. 2) was the "very best" they had experienced. Others noted attention to pandemic safety details, while one who went to Norway was charmed by a "wonderful surprise dinner in Bergen out on the water that was fantastic."

Tour operators that seamlessly navigated the logistics of a trip also came out on top. Quasar Expeditions (No. 9) was noted "for really planning out every detail" so that "all you have to do is show up and have a great time." Meanwhile, of TCS World Travel (No. 10), a guest said: "You never lift a finger and just spend your time actually exploring the destination." They even added that they "learned so much" along the way.

Among the five companies on this year's list that weren't on last year's were two women-only tour operators that cater to travelers of all ages. AdventureWomen (No. 14) has multiday tours designed by women from Bhutan to Yellowstone National Park, while Explorer Chick (No. 15) has everything from day trips — like glassblowing in Baltimore and cave rappelling in St. Louis — to full itineraries in Machu Picchu and the Galápagos. One reader said her Everest Base Camp trip with AdventureWomen was filled with "like-minded women" who "bonded so well," while another said she felt it was a "safe tour group for women."

No matter which tour they chose, readers were most taken by the people they met along the way, as one said of Trek Travel (No. 13): "By the end of the trip, a group of strangers felt like longtime friends." Find out which other companies round out the list of the best tour operators below.

1. DuVine Cycling + Adventure Co.

A tour with DuVine goes far beyond just riding a bike — it's a way to really see the character of a destination. Case in point: even those who say they're not necessarily cycling fans have been converted. That's part of what helped the tour operator — which runs trips in Europe, the U.S., Latin America, and Africa — skyrocket from No. 14 last year to this year's top spot. Its "top-notch biking equipment" and "challenging but doable itineraries" didn't hurt either. One reader was especially taken by a guide picking figs off of a local tree in Puglia for an extra energy boost during a tough climb, as well as another guide singing to the group after dinner. As another reader put it simply: "They exceed your expectations."

In 2024 visit the most cosmopolitan of the Baltic capitals, Riga , the capital of Latvia, is a modern city with a historical heart that offers a spectacular variety of natural, culinary and cultural charms.

Exploring the best places in Riga will give you a definitive answer to the question of why Riga is worth visiting. Riga Old town has UNESCO World Heritage status. The historical center holds many winding paths and well-hidden streets to rediscover the Old Town Riga upon every visit. It is surrounded by Romanticism, Gothic and Baroque testimonials that refresh the views of the modern city.

Pedantic luxury of the rich building facades can be admired for a long time at Art Nouveau district because about a third of the houses in the city center are genuine pearls of this style.  Architecture, theaters, art galleries , outdoor events are only a small part of the whole cultural pie that can be tasted in Riga. The luxurious Opera House, various music halls, independent cinemas, and contemporary art scene are among the brightest cultural offerings.

At the end of 2023 Latvia and Riga joined exclusive Michelin guide family, earing it's first star. In Riga you can find cozy cafes or fancy restaurants on every corner in the city center. Food menus there consist of combinations of local and world cuisine flavors, emphasizing seasonal and locally available products. Whether it is a restaurant with white tablecloths or a place to grab a coffee and some vegan bread, it is evident that Riga likes to eat and enjoy food. And let's not forget about the drinks! Riga is home to the best coffee roasters in the Baltics , thus finding a decent cup of Joe in the city is not a problem. The same applies for a glass of beer, as there are a quite a few of home-grown breweries that take their IPA’ s and lagers very seriously.

Despite the remarkable age of 822, Riga is far from feeling old. The city's youthful spirit is best enjoyed at one of the street food festivals or other creative and urban events held throughout the year. But if you want to get more adventurous and closer to the nature, you just have to spend only thirty minutes from the city center to the beach , districts surrounded by forests and fresh sea air, walking along the pier - unique proximity to nature with breathtaking landscapes that you can enjoy here in Riga. Almost everything nature has to offer is just a short drive away.

Lège-Cap-Ferret is like a Proust madeleine reminiscent of real holidays. Simplicity, sharing, an open-air market, an impromptu concert, new friends met during a bike ride, an aperitif on the beach , this is the South-West and its legendary conviviality .

Leave your tourist rental or hotel and take a walk or bike ride. Join the nearby café, visit the lighthouse and admire the Pilat dune, the largest dune in Europe. Taste oysters in the neighbouring oyster village or take a short sea trip with an oyster farmer.

Here everything has the great taste of summer holidays , from the freshness of fish to mouth-watering ice cream or the white wine accompanying your seafood. Here there are no shopping centres, just a small boulevard lined with fashion boutiques with their pretty dresses and linen shirts to bring home as souvenirs of an unforgettable holiday in the South-West of France.

The Arcachon Bay is a jewel of European tourism once prized by the nobility for the quality of its pure air (sea air and pine air combined). The Arcachon basin offers an incredible architectural heritage and beautiful villas in different architectural styles. The most recent constructions truly embrace nature and give this magical place the appearance of a Robinson Crusoe island , with added comfort and conviviality.

Cap-Ferret, a destination which the French would prefer to keep to themselves, is not yet well known to the international traveller; you can only be seduced by this lifestyle combining simplicity, good food and conviviality.

For holidays with family, couples or friends, where true luxury is time, nature and horizons, book your flights to Bordeaux (1h by car), your accommodation in Cap Ferret or Arcachon , as well as your activities and tours , such as a " Cap-Ferret with Oysters Tasting ".

In addition to Siena, it is an area rich in medieval villages, breathtaking landscapes, historic buildings with much to offer: walks in nature, wine tasting, enjoying olive oils and delicious local products.

Surrounded by nature, Siena is one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Italy :  its historic centre was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. One could come to Siena for the beauty of the "Piazza del Campo" alone when it hosts a spectacular horse race in July and August.

Ponza Italy European Best Destinations 2024

13. Ponza Island - Italy

This small Italian island of a few thousand inhabitants will be your favourite destination this year 2024 .

This Eden, with an area of only 7km2, is located off the coasts of Rome and Naples and was until recently a well- kept secret by the richest Italian families.

Ponza, for the oldest among us, will remind us of Saint Tropez in the 60s and 70s with its festive atmosphere, simplicity, colour, meetings, cocktails, designer boutiques, coves and beaches.

The best way to enjoy the island is to rent a boat or take a water taxi and discover the most beautiful coves and beaches of Ponza but also its caves and natural pools such as the natural pool of Cala Feola to the West of Ponza. Do you like the views? You will enjoy superb panoramas from the top of the cliffs of Ponza such as the Maria Rosa Cliffs.

Come and taste the fish of the day at “Da Enzo al Frontone” also nicknamed “Solo a Vela” because this restaurant is only accessible by boat from the port. Finally, don't forget that you are in Italy, it would be sacrilege not to end your meal with an Italian ice cream . The Bar Gelateria Panoramica is located in the port of Ponza and it is one of the best ice cream parlours on the island:  its strawberry sorbet is a delight!

Ponza is magical at any time of the year but if you can take your holiday in September (until mid-October) it is certainly the best time of the year to discover Ponza.

Book your flights to Rome, your accommodation in Ponza as well as your activities & tours , such as a " From Rome: Ponza Island Day Trip with Boat Excursion ".

European Best Destinations 2024 - Porto-Vecchio

14. Porto-Vecchio, Corsica, France

This year, more than ever, you want destinations of rare beauty but also exclusive destinations far from the crowds . Porto-Vecchio is the perfect choice for this. Imagine a destination with a 16th century Genoese citadel, a great marina, a few yachts and fishing boats, shops, bars, restaurants…  You will find some of the most beautiful beaches in France like Santa Giulia and its crystal-clear waters and fine white sand, or even Palombaggia and its umbrella pines to rest in the shade under their sweet scent.

In Porto-Vecchio you have the charm of an old Croatian or Montenegrin town with the beauty of a Tahitian lagoon a few kilometres away. You will discover the Corsican identity, which is neither France, nor Italy, nor a mixture of the two, but a uniquely Corsican feel to be appreciated with humility and respect just as the Corsicans do.

Porto-Vecchio is the promise of an unforgettable gastronomic, cultural and visual experience . Are you stiff from too much lazing at the beach? Meet the winegrowers, the women and men who cultivate the land to give you wines of character. Too much sun? Immerse yourself in the heart of the maquis and be transported by the smell of Mediterranean plants, unless it is the beautiful heritage of Porto-Vecchio that thrills you, its Genoese citadels, Romanesque chapels or prehistoric villages.

Whether you are looking for a relaxing, sporting, gastronomic, oenological, cultural holiday, with family, friends or as a couple, Porto-Vecchio is the guarantee of an unforgettable vacation. It is for this reason that Porto-Vecchio is truly one of the best European destinations 2024 .

16. Faroe Islands

An autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, the Faroes are an archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean to put at the top of your travel wish-list in 2024 .

Formerly the private turf of a few travellers passionate about ornithology or hiking, the Faroes today attract travellers looking for authenticity, preserved nature , spectacular landscapes, sometimes dramatic, steep cliffs populated by thousands of sea birds or from which spring fountains flow into the sea.

Today very well connected by road tunnel, ferry, bridge and roads, you will not miss anything of the Faroes during your stay in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean.

Still having trouble figuring out where this archipelago is located? Let's say between the tip of Scotland and Iceland to keep it simple. This gives you an idea of the climate. If you like extreme conditions, come in winter, otherwise come in spring or summer. The Faroes can be summed up in a slogan "Discover the islands, discover yourself".

Piran is probably the most beautiful little town in Europe and in any case the most photogenic destination in Europe. Piran is located in Istria, a region renowned for its vineyards, its gastronomy close to Italian gastronomy (oh these truffles!) and also for the beauty of its crystal-clear waters and nature.

Piran is, along with Portoroz and Koper, one of the few seaside resorts in Slovenia and probably the most beautiful one. City of love , Piran will seduce you with its narrow town streets, the beauty of its facades and the picture sights of the Slovenian Mediterranean.

Discover the Venetian architecture, the ancient city walls, the Monastery of St Francis and participate in the harvest of the famous Piran fleur de sel. This medieval city has it all:  dive into the underwater world with your family or discover that the stars are also visible in broad daylight at the wonderful Pira aquarium.

Take an E-Bike to discover the Slovenian Coast on a tour that combines local cuisine and beautiful beaches or try homemade premium extra virgin olive oil in the small village of Marezige. Thassos Greece European Best Destinations 2024

20. Thassos, North Aegean Sea, Greece

We all want to go to Greece but where exactly? Athens or Santorini ? These two destinations are often classified as overtourism destinations where you are more likely to come across another tourist than a local.

Imagine an island with deserted beaches, a little corner of lost paradise that the Greeks prefer to keep for themselves and where you can enjoy delicious mezze for a few euros in typical cafés. Add to that a natural lagoon, Marble Beach which contrasts with the turquoise blue of the water, and a warm welcome from the locals.

There are only very, very good reasons to visit Thassos, one of your best European destinations in 2024 .

Have a few lazy days at the beach, then climb the mountains to meet the inhabitants of Panagia or Kazavati. They will welcome you with open arms.

Thassos is an adventure, don't hesitate to rent a 4x4 to wander through its wild and untouched nature and do not miss anything of this earthly paradise.

Take your flights to Athens, then a domestic flight to Kavala and the ferry to the island. Alternate lazy days with days of discovery in the mountains, restaurants, trendy bars, visits to authentic villages, meeting people and sharing unforgettable moments.

Best for:  Nature lovers, Hikers, Foodies, Families, Beach Lovers, Instagrammers, Sun Seekers.

4 spectacular (and cheap) European destinations

Puedes leer esta historia presionando aquí.

Europe is one of the regions most visited by tourists and it's no surprise. Its beauty, its history, its diversity and its attractions have everything that many travelers seek. However, many people think that traveling to that continent entails high expenses since its most visited cities are usually costly destinations, such as Amsterdam, London and Paris.

Through my years of traveling, I have discovered beautiful destinations in Europe that you can visit with more modest budgets. Here are four European countries where you will have a spectacular time without spending a fortune:

This country has been one of the great surprises in my life. From crystalline beaches to mountains with beautiful views like Switzerland, Albania offers tourists a little bit of everything.

Prices for transportation, lodging, and food are very affordable. For example, in Tirana, you can get very good hotels for less than $59 per night . Do not forget to visit its famous region of Theth or the towns of Berat, Kruje, Shkodër and Ksamil.

Two vacations in one: How to add a second destination to your trip (for little or no cost)

One of the most beautiful countries in Europe. It has a gastronomy of the first order. Taking a tour of its Adriatic coast will take you to see several of the most beautiful coastal towns in Europe.

I recommend you visit Dubrovnik, Split, Pula, Trogir, Rovinj, Hvar and Zadar, among others. You cannot leave out the beautiful Plitvice Lakes. Croatia recently entered the euro area. If you want to save on arrival flights to this destination, you can consider the airports of Zagreb, Split, or Dubrovnik.

Czech Republic

The romantic country in the center of Europe. Its capital, Prague, is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. However, many tourists only visit the capital and forget other towns and cities such as Karlovy Vary, Český Krumlov, Kutna Hora, or Brno. Moving between them is very cheap. For example, the bus between Prague and Český Krumlov starts from $6.99 .

African trips: Want to do a safari trip in Africa, but don't know where to start? Here are my tips to get organized.

What I consider one of the best destinations in the world to travel. Portugal has it all: gastronomy, history, architecture, activities, beaches, nature, vineyards, etc. In short, a long list of many offers and activities that you can do in one place. Flights from New York, Washington, D.C., Boston, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles and Seattle to cities like Lisbon or Porto can often be had for less than $499-$599 round trip. Be sure to visit, apart from its two main cities, Cascais, Sintra, Nazaré, Aveiro, Coimbra and Evora. Portuguese gastronomy has some delicacies that you must try, such as Pastéis de nata, octopus, bacalhau (salted cod), or duck rice.

Europe has many destinations that are sometimes off our itineraries because they are simply not the most frequented and we have not seen much about them. If you want to venture on a trip to Europe, without spending a lot of money and without sacrificing a unique experience on your trip, here are four options that you will fall in love with.

Hidden Spain - From Barcelona to Basque Country

Do you want to explore highlights in Spain while staying in nature at the same time? Look no further. Start your Spanish adventure in Barcelona before heading off to the mountains - drive your rental car to Andorra and further on to Basque Country. Decide between driving yourself or guided tours.

Leaving Paris , cruise through the gentle hills of Champagne and Reims to the quaint capital of Luxembourg City, and explore the small country’s many fairy-tale castles.

Trier , Germany’s oldest city, is less than an hour’s drive north-east, where ancient Roman baths and basilicas stand marvellously intact.

Spend a night in the medieval village of Bacharach in Riesling wine country, before wandering the riverside streets of Heidelberg . Onward to Nuremberg , and then to Leipzig for a strong dose of hot caffeine with your Cold War history, classical music and cake. Make sure to check out the complete guide to the UNESCO world heritage sites in Germany to visit some of the palaces and gardens , industrial heritage sites or historic town centres along the way.

Detour to Dresden , restored after the ruinous bombing in WWII, before ending in one of Europe’s coolest cities: the creative paradise of Berlin .

For a longer trip, start in London and take the ferry or channel tunnel to France , transforming this road trip into a pilgrimage between Europe’s holy trinity of artistic hubs.

  • Best for: Culture vultures looking for bragging rights.
  • How long: 1–2 weeks.
  • Insider tip: If you’re driving in France, you’ll legally need to keep safety equipment in your car (a reflective vest and hazard signal). Additionally, be prepared with a cash or credit card to pay the French road tolls on the way.

Thinking exclusively about a vacation in France? Start planning your trip by finding out how to get there .

Begin in Bilbao , where the surrounding beaches boast world-class surf, then drive along the Atlantic to San Sebastian : watersports wonderland and foodie heaven. From there venture south through the rugged wilderness of the Pyrenees to Pamplona . Climb the Roncesvalles Pass before looping back to the coast. Or continue along the Bay of Biscay to the attractive seaside resort of St-Jean-de-Luz.

Travellers with a little extra money lining their pockets will be happy to spend days lingering on boho beaches in Biarritz, while those looking for gargantuan swell can do no better than the surfer hangouts in Hossegor.

Finish the trip northward in Bordeaux – the Pearl of the Aquitaine – where café-strewn boulevards and world-class wines are your trophies at the finish line.

Bilbao to Bordeaux

  • Best for: Sun-seeking surfers and foodies.
  • How long: 1 week.
  • Insider tip: Check seasonal surf forecasts before you go, and look into coastal campsites if you're on a budget. The Basque roads beg for a convertible – or a colourful camper van with surfboards strapped to the roof.

Kick off in the city of Bergen , on Norway’s southwest coast, and make way past mighty fjords to Voss and the colossal Tvindefossen waterfall. Then check the world's longest road tunnel off your to-do list, a cavernous 24.5km route under the mountains.

Catch a quick ferry across the Sognefjord and carry on to the Fjaler valleys, a land of glaciers and snowy mountain peaks, to the waterside towns of Stryn or the mountain village Videster.

Work your way northward to the well-touristed towns of Geiranger, down the death-defying hairpin turns of Trollstigen (literally “The Troll Path”).

After the descent, ferry across the Eresfjord to Molde and Kristiansund. For the final stretch, drive the iconic Atlantic Road with its roller-coaster-style bridges, and conclude with some well-deserved downtime upon the still waters and stilted homes of Trondheim .

  • Best for: Thrill seekers and landscape junkies.
  • How long : 5–7 days.
  • Insider tip : This route is best tackled from late spring to early autumn. If you plan on road tripping during Norway’s winter months, be sure to check online ahead of time for road closures due to snow and ice.
  • Ready to explore Norway? Start preparing by finding out how to get there .

Start from Bucharest , travelling northward through the Carpathian mountains to Transylvania, and make a mandatory stop at Bran Castle (claimed to be the old stomping grounds of Dracula himself).

Take the Transfagarasan mountain road, one of the most scenic routes in the world, towards the age-old cities and countless castles of Sibu, Brasov and Sighisoara. Then set course to the unexplored architectural gems of Timisoara.

Carry on towards the tranquil hot springs and hip ruin pubs of bustling Budapest, and be prepared to stay at least a few days. Depart for Bratislava – a capital full of surprises – from where it's only an hour further to the coffeehouses and eclectic architecture of Vienna .

  • Best for: Anyone looking for a break from the conventional tourism of western Europe.
  • How long: 7–12 days.
  • Insider tip: Exercise caution when driving through tunnels. Though the weather outside may be fine, tunnels are often slippery.

Start in Braga , before driving south to the medieval town of Guimarães , a UNESCO World Heritage site. Then it’s onward to the breathtaking "second-city" of Porto , though it's nothing less than first-rate. Check here for the best places to stay in Porto .

Drive east to the vineyards and steep valleys of Penafiel and Amarante before hitting the coastal road to the vast white beaches of Figueira da Foz - among the best beaches in Portugal . From here it’s on to Peniche, Ericeira and then Lisbon : the country's vibrant capital that's on course to beat out Berlin for Europe’s coolest city. Check out the best areas to stay in Lisbon as well as the best places to eat to match your taste.

Drive south to Sagres , Arrifana and Carrapateira. After soaking up the sun on the picturesque shores of the Algarve, wrap this road trip up in the Mediterranean dreamland otherwise known as Faro .

If you’ve still got itchy feet when you reach Faro, take the ferry from nearby Algeciras in Spain to Morocco . Imagine the satisfaction of parking your ride in the desert village of Merzouga, before exploring the Sahara – that's right, it would feel awesome.

  • Best for: Beach bums and oenophiles.
  • How long: At least 10–14 days.
  • Insider tip: As Portugal is among the more affordable destinations in Western Europe, this can be an especially great trip for travellers on a budget .

6. High-altitude adventure on Germany's Alpine Road

The Alpenstrasse, or Alpine Road, is your ticket to a bonafide Bavarian odyssey: a safe route through the unforgettable vistas of Germany 's high-altitude meadows, mountains, crystal-clear lakes and cosy village restaurants. Start lakeside at Lindau on the Bodensee and head to Oberstaufen for a therapeutic beauty treatment in the country’s “Capital of Wellness”.

Venture eastwards to the Breitachklamm gorge, where the river Breitach cuts through verdant cliffs and colossal boulders. Carry on to the town of Füssen – famous for its violin makers – stopping along the way at any quaint Alpine villages you please. The iconic Neuschwanstein Castle , the same structure that inspired Walt Disney to build his own version for Cinderella, isn’t far off either - one of those places even more beautiful in winter.

Speaking of winter, hit the slopes of Garmisch-Partenkirchen for some serious skiing if the season’s right. Stop at Benediktbeuern on your way to the medieval town of Bad Tölz, then up through the stunning wilderness scenes of the Chiemgau Alps before ending in the regional capital of Munich . If you’re missing the mountain roads already, carry on to Salzburg in Austria and stop in the ice caves of Werfen on the way.

Lindau to Oberstaufen

  • Best for: Outdoorsy types.
  • How long: 5–8 days.
  • Insider tip: Give your road trip an extra purpose and pack your skis or snowboard. Garmisch-Partenkirchen ski season starts early December and ends early May. In the summer months, you can go hiking or climbing instead.

Start in Athens and take the coastal roads south through the Athenian Riviera to Sounion, situated at the tip the Attic peninsula. Watch a sunset at the Temple of Poseidon, then drive northward through mythic mountains to the fortress of Kórinthos before posting up in the legendary city of Mycenae (home of Homeric heroes).

If you’re craving a luxurious seaside stay, look no further than the resort town of Nafplio. If not, carry onwards through the unforgiving landscapes to Mystra, the cultural and political capital of Byzantium.

Want more? Then it’s on to Olympia, sporting grounds of the ancients, and the mystic ruins of Delphi. Loop back towards Athens, approaching the city from the north.

  • Best for: Sun-worshippers,and anyone who’s ever read Homer or watched overly action-packed flicks such as Troy and 300 .
  • How long: 5–10 days, though it’s easy to trim a version of this road trip down to a long weekend.
  • Insider tip: If you’re parking in central Athens keep an eye out for coloured parking spaces – these are reserved for locals, so if you park here you’ll get a ticket.

Leave the hectic pace of England ’s capital London behind. Make for Oxford, home of the world’s oldest English-language university, and a place of storied pubs where the likes of J.R.R Tolkien and Lewis Carrol regularly wet their whistles.

If you’ve got the time, it’s a quick drive to the cottages of the Cotswolds - check our guide to the prettiest villages to visit . If not, cruise up to Stratford-Upon-Avon, birthplace of Shakespeare.

Take the two-and-a-half-hour drive north to Manchester for a city fix and watch a football match. Carry on north to the Lake District National Park, one of the most beautiful places in England . Drink in the scenery that inspired England’s finest romantics, then head across the Yorkshire dales to the quirky medieval lanes of York, founded by the Romans nearly 2000 years ago.

From there it's north again past tiny villages to the majestic wonders of Edinburgh . If you’re craving the rugged comforts of the highlands go to Stirling, Inverness, or the Western Isles – worth the drive indeed. And if you are going by electric car, check out this great guide to plan your electric car road trip in Britain .

London to Inverness

  • Best for: Locals that want to feel like foreigners, and foreigners that want to feel like locals.
  • How long: 5–10 days.
  • Insider tip: Destinations like Stratford-Upon-Avon and York (not to mention London) are true tourist hotspots in the summer. Plan your road trip for spring or autumn and you’ll enjoy the beautiful scenery along with fewer crowds.

Hit the gas in the Sicilian capital of Palermo, the biggest historic centre in Italy after Rome and arguably the country’s most chaotic metropolis.

Adventure onwards along the Tyrrhenian coast to the golden sands of Cefalù – a great holiday spot for families, with a mellow medieval town centre to boot.

Get to the island’s heartland and the ancient city of Enna. Surrounded by cliffs on all sides, and built atop a massive hill, you'll feel as though you've walked on the set of Game of Thrones . Head southeast to the shores of the Ionian Sea and dock in Siracusa, once the most important in the western world while under ancient Greek rule with much of its historic architecture intact.

Then it’s up to Catania for a trip to molten Mount Etna, the tallest active volcano on the entire European continent.

Finish the trip in Messina, or ferry across into the Italian province of Calabria where rustic mountain villages, friendly locals and the idyllic sands of Tropea and Pizzo await – refreshingly devoid of foreigners.

  • Best for: Anyone looking for a truly authentic Italian experience, and of course, hardcore foodies.
  • How long : 6–12 days.
  • Insider tip: Remember that southern Italy can get very hot in July and August. Avoid the heat of the day with a leisurely lunch (go easy on the wine if you’re driving!) and travel in the early morning or evening instead.

Reviews of Small Group tours to Europe

My sister and I did the Mama Mia Tour throughout Italy May 27-June 8. Each one of our tour guides was amazing, we had Carlo and Max in Rome, Giovanni in Sorrento, and Nedas in Florence and Venice. All of them were so fun to tour with, always happy to take our picture and since the groups were smaller we could be a bit more customizable with our experience and what we wanted to see during walking tours of the city! The guides were probably one of my favorite parts of the trip because after spending so much time with them they began to feel like more of a friend than a tour guide which was awesome! I really enjoyed the welcome dinners as well to help break the ice with fellow travelers and get to know the guides better. They all were very funny and knowledgeable of the location we were at and happy to provide food/activity recommendations for our free time. The only critique I would give the company is we were often not meeting our guides at the accommodation, we were asked to meet them somewhere in the city whether that was a train station or a specific street in the city. Being in a city I had never been to before this was a little difficult at first, especially when the meeting point was far away. I wish they would put us in direct contact with who we are meeting so we can message them if we are lost or running late, and who we should be looking for. With that being said, we had a couple times where we arrived at the meeting point and nobody came or came much later once I called the company a few times, which I think could have been resolved if we were just given the contact of who we were meeting from the beginning or making a WhatsApp group chat of some sort for the group to send updates and communicate better. But after one incident of a meeting point mix up the company was very accommodating in helping us the rest of the trip and adding a gondola ride in Venice for us to make up for a hiccup in Rome. Overall I would recommend this trip to other fellow travelers! You see such amazing things with amazing tour guides and I would do it again and again!
We loved and enjoyed our tour from Athens to Belgrade with Choose Balkans and Alfred (Alfie) as our tour guide and driver. We have been to 130 countries to date and Alfred is in our top 3 best tour guide list. He is excellent. The itinerary was well thought of, with all the highlights of each destination visited. Alfred provided us with the historical background of each attraction. Having a small group is absolutely a plus. There were 7 of us in an 8 passenger van. We communicated through social media when we were not in the van so a regional or global sim is advisable but not a must because all the hotels had free wifi. Since it was a small group, the guide had ample time to entertain our questions such as currency used and accepted and good places to eat. I recommend Choose Balkans and hopefully, we can do more tours with them someday. Faleminderit!
An absolutely amazing tour would highly recommend. There was only 3 at the beginning of the tour then they left after 7 days so I had Ana for the rest of the tour by myself. What an amazing young lady she is. Was a great driver and went out of her way to make sure I never slipped on the pavers as I had not long had a knee replacement. She’s the best, very polite and made sure if we needed a bathroom she would organise The girl at the apartment was great as well she was there to call if needed They stay in touch by WhatsApp if you need anything they are just a message away I am going home to promote Choose Balkins they are an amazing company Thank you for the awesome Tour
