Our Guests Say It Best

No way the Water Taxi can top this. Spend the extra $$. You will be glad you did. Winstonator approved. Stamp it!  Ahoy!!!!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed Captain Lindsey. If you can’t hear or understand her, then frankly, you may want to invest in a hearing aid. No loud obnoxious microphone needed, just well thought out historical information regarding Fort Lauderdale, with some funny jokes thrown in for good measure.

Just what we were looking for We have been coming to Ft Lauderdale for decades and have been looking for a sunset cruise to view the magnificent waterways, yachts and homes. We took the 1 1/2 hour cruise. I was impressed with the design and quietness of the battery powered boat. The price was reasonable. Captain Rocco was one of those people who loves their job. He even dropped us off at the 15 Street Fisheries where we had a memorable dinner. A most excellent evening !

Family and pet friendly tour We had a great time on our tour! We opted for a bottle of wine on board and that was really nice to have. Our captain was great at sharing so much information with us about what we were passing by and made a couple of special turns to show us things that interested us specifically. Our dog enjoyed the tour and well and even got a treat! It was a fun, relaxing and adventurous time on the water! Thank you Intimate waterways.

BEST Boat Ride in FL Area

My girl and I booked this boat ride when we went on vacation in the FL area on Aug 19 around 7 pm, wanted to see the sunset. This was the best boat ride we have ever had. Our captain was “Christina”, she shared the town history and showed us all the multi-million dollar homes! Such a fun, safe, relaxing environment, a great way to spend the day! Thank you! We had blast and she also stopped at a nice view to take pictures. Definitely would recommend it!

You Don’t want to miss this!!

Our group was looking for something Fun to do and we are so happy we chose the 3 hour Sunset Cruise. It was so relaxing and calming. Captain Christina, went out of her way to make us comfortable and helped us enjoy every moment. She was very informative and answered all the questions we had. It’s pretty amazing that I have lived here for almost 40 years and have missed the beauty that’s in our own backyard! Beautiful and Peaceful!

3 Things to Do Along the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale, FL, is known as “The Venice of America” for good reason. Just like its European namesake, Fort Lauderdale is permeated by numerous winding canals and waterways. Because of its amazing location, this city is a haven for all things water. Here are three things to do along the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale to get you started! Don’t forget to access our free Fort Lauderdale Vacation Guide f or more attraction and activity ideas.

Access Our Local Guide

All About the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale

What is the intracoastal waterway.

The Intracoastal Waterway is a 3,000-mile inland water channel that runs along the Eastern United States and into the Atlantic Ocean. It consists of natural inlets, saltwater rivers, and canals. The Waterway aligns perfectly with the coastal city of Fort Lauderdale! When visiting, you’ll notice plenty of tropical foliage as well as yachts and mansions along Millionaire’s Row. Fort Lauderdale is quite a sight from the Intracoastal Waterway!

Things to Do on the Water

Explore via water taxi.

There are so many shops, restaurants, and bars dotting the banks of the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale! If you’re trying to get from Point A to Point B, there’s no better way to get around than taking the   water taxi in Fort Lauderdale . The water taxi takes a variety of routes, including the New River, Fort Lauderdale, and Hollywood. It also makes “whistle stops” along the way. You can even take the water taxi to nearby cities like Miami for fun day trips! Check out the online schedule for route details, pricing, and pickup times.

Experience Dining with a View

Fort Lauderdale features a great selection of restaurants right on the Intracoastal Waterway! There’s nothing like hopping off a boat and right into a restaurant. Along the Waterway, you’ll find Kaluz , a modern eatery featuring a cushy outdoor lounge. At Kaluz, watch boats dock as you enjoy delectable bites like slow roasted prime rib or Cedar plank salmon! Another option for waterfront dining in Fort Lauderdale is the Blue Moon Fish Company , a favorite seafood spot for traveling foodies. This place has a romantic vibe, fun outdoor deck, and famous Sunday brunch. Thirsty for some waterfront libations? There are bars here, too!

Go on a Fort Lauderdale Boat Tour in Las Olas

The best boat tours in Fort Lauderdale guide guests to Las Olas Boulevard. Some of them even take guests to hidden tropical oases! A riverfront cruise in Fort Lauderdale is a wonderful way for first-time visitors to get to know the area. Guests can even dine and enjoy live entertainment aboard some of these vessels. We recommend beginning your South Florida vacation with one of these tours. You’ll have an amazing time and emerge much more knowledgeable about “The Venice of America!”

PLANNING YOUR TRIP TO FT. LAUDERDALE

  • HALF DAY (~4 HOURS)
  • FULL DAY (~8 HOURS)

Half day Yacht Tour (up to 4 hours)

On a 4-hour half day yacht charter, we recommend picking you up from any marina in Ft. Lauderdale like the  Pier 66 Marina or the legendary Bahia Mar Marina made famous in the Travis McGee mystery series.

Start your trip by cruising through the intracoastal waterways, making your way to the open ocean. As our crew is pampering you with beverages and snacks, you are now  passing in front of Port Everglades where you can view the cruise ships arriving and departing through the port inlet.

Heading out toward the oceanside, moving north past Commercial Boulevard and Pompano Beach, you can enjoy the impeccable beaches of Fort Lauderdale while watching the sunbathers envious of the yacht you are on. Learn more with The Advantaged.

Near the inlet  at Pompano Beach  you can drop anchor and take a break  snorkeling, swimming or jetting around on one of our available waverunners.

When you are ready, head back south to Fort Lauderdale Intracoastal and cruise along The New River where you’ll enjoy an endless parade of the magnificent homes of the rich and famous.

Finish your day by being dropped off at one of the restaurants with a dockage  or you can return to the marina and bask in the joy of a well-spent, beautiful day.

Full day Yacht Tour (up to 8 hours)

For a full day yacht charter tour, the best starting point would be from the  Miami Beach Marina or Sunset Harbor Yacht Club in South Beach, Florida early morning.

Choose your preferred yacht that you want to impress your friends and family and off you go cruising north towards Ft. Lauderdale.

First you will pass by the famous  Star Island, Palm Island, and Venetian Island  in South Beach pushing north thru the bay area. There you will see  Normandy Village  and once you get to Bal Harbor in North Miami Beach area your captain will move to the ocean side where he will be able to pick up speed and make his way to Ft. Lauderdale.

You will enjoy the picturesque view and the beautiful blue Atlantic Ocean. Up to this point you are within a 3-hour cruising in a luxurious & relax mode being entertained by your favorite music while sipping champagne of your choice and possibly snacking on fruit & cheese platter all that can be provided by us for your convenience.

For the next four hours, which is also our recommendation for a 4-hour charter, your captain will show you a true spectacular waterway view of Ft. Lauderdale by first entering the Port Everglades inlet.

You are able to view cruise ships like Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise lines. Making your way to Millionaire’s Row sightseeing celebrities luxury homes,  “6 Million Dollar Man” home, Radio Shack home, Wayne Huizenga compound, La Maison Blanche, and more.

If time permits, the captain might stop at the  Las Olas Riverfront for some shopping, eating, drinking or other land-side entertainment.  Right on the waterway is the iconic Broward Center for the Performing Arts where you will also find the IMAX theater and science museum.

You will have the option to be dropped off at one of more than 10 restaurants with dockage facility or you may just be ready to  head back home to your destination marina with memories for a lifetime.

There are various options of pick-up and drop-off locations for this tour. We will be happy to work around your schedule to make yours an easy and convenient experience!

Morning cruise  suggested time frame:  10am to 2pm or 10am to 6pm. Sunset cruise  suggested time frame:  4pm to 8pm or 2pm to 10pm.

Enhance your experience

Whatever the reason for your boat charter, we will be sure to make it special! We offer a broad range of additional services to make your time spent on one of our yachts unforgettable. Think of us as a  concierge service , available to meet the needs of your special day.

Every moment on your chartered yacht is meant to be spent enjoying the sights, sea and sun, while relaxing with your special guests. With this in mind, we have a selection of “add-ons” for your onboard enjoyment (also feel free to bring your own).

CHOOSING A BOAT

Your boat choice will be determined by  budget , number of  guests ,  occasion  and  destination .

May we suggest a 40’ Sessa or a 50’ Sea Ray for a budget-conscious group of 13 guests (excluding the captain and mate)? Or, how about a 70’ Sunseeker or an 85’ Azimut for that special occasion with a larger budget? Or a sexy 40’ Van Dutch for the partying group of 10 guests seeking a good time for 2+ hours.

Note: Fishing charters are permitted for a maximum of 6 guests by law.

You will learn about specific areas of interest, celebrity homes, historical landmarks, places to stop and watch the sunset, the best restaurants to eat by the water, sandbars for swimming, the best snorkeling and fishing areas, the ideal time to catch the best fish, and even designated areas to jet ski.

SOUTH FLORIDA SEASONS

Here in South Florida, we are fortunate to have  almost perfect weather all year round –  making it possible to enjoy a boating, yachting, sailing or fishing trip at any given moment!

During the  Summer,  we have a short period of hot and humid weather, with temperatures from the mid-80s to low-90s (29–35° C) and occasional afternoon rain showers. This combination creates the perfect conditions for swimming, sunbathing, and ice-cold mojitos.

Winter  temperatures   average 69.2° F (20.7° C) during the day and 50° F (10° C) at night, making it the preferred time of the year for tourists from up north to escape the cold and soak up the sun while enjoying the cool, dry air. It’s truly the most wonderful time of the year.

Tour greater fort lauderdale via the intracoastal in a water taxi.

By Terry Ward

Oh, how much fun would it be if all cities had a Water Taxi like Fort Lauderdale! What better way is there to get to know a beautiful Florida place than by boat?

When in Fort Lauderdale, leave your car at the hotel, and take a water taxi  into the Intracoastal and New River instead. These bright yellow boats are as much about getting you from point A to point B as they are about entertaining you along the way.

As the captain pilots you past millionaires' mansions and super yachts that have given Fort Lauderdale its moniker as the Yachting Capital of the World, the skipper fills passengers in on area lore. Keep an eye out for Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz's former digs along the Intracoastal. And see the place where Sonny and Cher used to live. You'll learn about the curious owners of some of the yachts you see - and the even more curious ways in which they've made their fortunes.
