Wonderful app!

This app is a lifesaver! I made an account and set it up with PayPal. Now whenever I need a ticket, I just take out my smartphone. No need to waste time going to ticket machines, waiting in line at them, or getting out cash. The electronic ticket also shows the time left on it and all the records of your ticket purchases go on your credit card.

Fined 60 eur because of this app

I habitually buy 4-ticket packs, and in the last year the transactions have gotten longer and longer (1-2 minutes of the spinner interaction - I might as well buy physical tickets) and nowadays even fail. Today I entered the train trusting that this was about to complete and it failed (all on wifi), and I was on a train with fare control and was given a 60 euro ticket. The app says that I have purchased tickets using a past credit card transaction, but no record of this visible in the app, nor any tickets are visible in app. To emphasize: this was all while being connected to bvg wifi. The only conclusion is that using this service in its current state incurs serious risk of getting fined, not to mention inconvenience because of the length of the transaction. This service used to work well but as of now is effectively broken and should not be used for day to day tickets, and I’m probably out 60 eur because of it.

Hi, we are sorry to hear that of course and our colleagues are constantly working on the performance of the app. At the moment we can only advise that you delete the app and download it again as this clears any old cache. Please note that you have to ensure that you are in possession of a valid ticket before entering public transport.

App crashes when you need it

Also for some reason you cannot buy an ABC ticket on the app. Twice when I’ve arrived at the airport been forced to use the ticket machines. Edit: I got a reply from the developer and apparently you can change the fare zone in order to buy an ABC ticket. This app needs improvement with UI and Ux if a user whose has purchased tickets with the app since it’s first released didn’t clearly understand how to access that feature. To clarify I was trying to use my four pack of AB tickets to buy a ticket into berlin from the airport , it did not work. (most likely because BER is in C.) Did I need to buy the C ticket first and then activate the AB ticket? Could the app tell me the next step instead of just locking me out ?

Edit 17.03.2023: Hi, it is correct that you cannot activate a section of an AB ticket in the C area with a C station and we do not advise to activate a section of an AB ticket and to buy an extension ticket in addition, as this is more expensive than buying either a single trip ticket ABC or, if you use the tickets more often a 4-trip-ticket Berlin ABC. --- Hi, that is not correct, you can buy ABC tickets with the app ;-), you need to choose the ticket you wish to buy and then click onto the field "fare zone", a pop up opens at the bottom of the screen where you can change from AB to BC or ABC.

The official ticket for tourists: Explore Berlin with the WelcomeCard

• More than 200 discount partners
• Unlimited number of journeys in the respective period and fare zone

• The Berlin WelcomeCard is the classic ticket. The validity period can be freely selected and ranges from 48 hours to six days. It can be purchased for the Berlin AB or Berlin ABC fare zones. The regular discounts and offers apply.
• The Berlin WelcomeCard Museum Island is valid for 72 hours after validation. It can be purchased for the Berlin AB or Berlin ABC fare zones. In addition to the regular discounts and offers, there is free admission once a day to the museums on Museum Island (excluding special exhibitions) during the period of validity.
• The Berlin WelcomeCard all inclusive is an extension of the Berlin WelcomeCard and the "all-round carefree ticket". It can be purchased for different validity periods between 48 hours and six days and is always valid for the Berlin ABC fare zone. In addition to the regular offers, this variant gives you free admission to over 30 partners.

The Berlin WelcomeCard consists of the ticket for public transportation and the CityGuide. Upon presentation of the ticket and the CityGuide to the discount partners, the respective offers and discounts can be claimed.

The Biosphäre Potsdam, the Gay Museum, the JUMP House or the Alte Nationalgalerie – with over 200 discount partners , there is something for everyone.

The Berlin A fare zone includes the city center, where the main train station, the Brandenburg Gate and other sights are located. Fare zone Berlin B extends outside the S-Bahn ring to the city limits. The surrounding area of Berlin, the city of Potsdam and BER Airport fall under fare zone Berlin C. Here you will find a detailed view of the fare zones and fare regulations .

The WelcomeCard 48h is not only available via our Ticket-App and Fahrinfo-App, but also via the following:

Welcomecard vs. citytour card.

The WelcomeCard is valid for either the Berlin AB or Berlin ABC fare zones and can be purchased for different lengths of time. With the WelcomeCard, you benefit from over 200 discount partners and discounts of between 25 % and 50 %. The ticket comes with a printed CityGuide with recommendations and tours as well as a map of the city and public transport network. The WelcomeCard Museum Island gives you free admission to the respective museums and the WelcomeCard all inclusive is an all-round carefree package.

The CityTour Card is valid for either the Berlin AB or Berlin ABC fare zones and can be purchased for different lengths of time. The CityTour Card gives you up to 40 % discount at around 30 partners. In addition to the classics such as the TV Tower, it also includes more unusual offers such as the Disgusting Food Museum or Poetry Slam. You receive a folding map with your ticket. Overall, the CityTour Card is slightly cheaper than the WelcomeCard.

Depending on what exactly you are planning and which sights or cultural institutions you would like to visit, you can decide in advance which ticket is more worthwhile for you.

How to Get Around Like a Local in Berlin: 16 Best Apps (iOS and Android)

Like any other major city, Berlin is fairly easy to navigate with the help of standard travel apps such as Google Maps. However, as I've learned from the last year of being based in Berlin, there are quite a few apps that are more specific to the city that can make your life a lot easier.

Whether it's ride-sharing or currency exchange, I've curated a list of apps and services that make your life infinitely easier. As a bonus, I've also included coupons and referral codes so you get a little something (free stuff!) when you sign up.

Below, you'll find out how to manage your money, get around and even get food delivered when you're lying in your room with a hangover from last night.

Currency Exchange: TransferWise

You've arrived and need access to cash - in this case, Euros. I'd highly recommend sorting yourself out with an international fee-free card before leaving home, but if you ever find yourself in need of Euros, check out TransferWise .

They offer the cheapest currency exchange rate on the market - much more so than your average bank. TransferWise even offers a "Borderless account", a multi-currency virtual bank account from which you can receive and transfer funds in multiple currencies. And it's free.  Use this link to sign up , and once you're all done, you can also access your account from your iPhone or Android device.

Online Banking in Berlin: N26

If you're actually moving to Berlin and need a local bank account, check out N26 . It's the leading digital bank in Germany with easy setup, no fees, free ATM withdrawals, and everything is in both English and German. I've actually written a guide on  how to open a bank account  with N26.

People typically don't have much nice to say about banks, but N26 seems to be the exception - I've barely met anyone who doesn't have an account with them.

Getting Around: Public Transport

Now that you have your shiny new bank card (or cards), we can really start moving. While many Berliners spend a lot of time in their own local areas (called "Kiez"), the fact is that the city is quite spread out and you'll often have to take public transport to get around.

The official BVG FahrInfo Plus app ( iOS / Android ) is an easy way to buy tickets from your phone using a credit card, which saves you the hassle of stopping at ticket machines every time you get on the U-Bahn.

They can even show you the connections you need to take and give you updates if there are delays or any other issues getting around, although personally I prefer to use Google Maps.

Taxis & Ride Sharing: BerlKönig, CleverShuttle, Uber

The often annoying thing about Berlin's public transport system is that it's rare that you get to your destination without any transfers, meaning a 15 minute bicycle ride might turn into 35 minutes on two trains and a bus. If you can't be bothered waiting around, there's a number of options available for you.

Note: almost all of the options below have referral codes, which means that you (and me) will get free or subsidised rides. Let's share the love!

BerlKönig ( iOS / Android ) is a ride-sharing shuttle service operated by the BVG, first starting out as a replacement service for late-night travellers (Berlin's public transport doesn't run 24 hours) and now operating around the clock. It's much cheaper than taking a taxi and if you use the code " chris7i3 ", you'll get 10€ credit - which is usually enough for two rides! The catch is that you might pick up an extra passenger or two on the way to your destination, but it usually doesn't take you too far out of your way. In fact, most times I've used Berlkönig, it's basically been a private shuttle.

The other option is CleverShuttle ( iOS / Android ), an eco-friendly shuttle service that only operates electric and hydrogen-powered cars. It operates in a similar way to Berlkönig with the added bonus of being better for the environment, and you can get 10€ credit here as well by using the code " p721ea ".

Both Berlkönig and Clevershuttle often have deals and specials, which you need to be signed up for to be notified.

If you just want a direct trip, you can also use Uber ( iOS / Android ) as you would anywhere else in the world - although Uber is technically banned in Germany, so might be getting a taxi instead of a private car. Use the code " chrisl2739 " to get 10€ off your first ride.

If you don't want to mess around with sharing, the taxi app FREE NOW ( iOS / Android ) has you covered. They also have taxi vans that can take up to 8 people, which can be helpful if you're travelling in larger groups. Use the code " chris.lim1 " to get a 10€ coupon.

Car Sharing: WeShare, DriveNow, Car2Go, Miles, Drivy

Car sharing has slowly been taking off across the globe in past years, and Berlin is no different. There are quite a few options as far as companies go but WeShare DriveNow, Car2Go and Miles are the four main options to consider.

WeShare ( iOS / Android ) is my new favourite, with a fleet of electric VW Golfs and hands-down the best prices of any car-sharing company in Berlin. WeShare is 1€ to start a drive, then costs 19 cents per minute. Unless you predict heavy traffic (which case Miles might be slightly better), WeShare has consistently been the most cost-effective option for me - and their cars are comfortable, clean and pleasure to drive. Use this link to get 20€ in driving credit.

DriveNow ( iOS / Android ) is operated by BMW and costs 29€ to register, between 20-36 cents/minute depending on the model and time of day, and a 1€ comprehensive insurance fee. Alternatively, you can choose one of four package options, such as hourly, daily or prepaid. Check out the  DriveNow pricing page for more details. To get discounted registration (9.98€) and 15 minutes of free driving, use the coupon code " N4720LJBS6M7 ".

Car2Go ( iOS / Android ) is operated by Daimler - that is, Mercedes Benz and Smart cars - and costs 9€ to register, between 19-39 cents/minute depending on the model and time of day, and a 1.90€ drop-off fee within the main city ring of Berlin. They also have package options - check out the Car2Go pricing page for more details. To get free registration and 10€ credit, use the code " J18_R_EN/ [email protected] ".

For both options, you use the app to find your nearest vehicle and can also drop them off wherever you like within the main city limits. As of March 2018, DriveNow and Car2Go have teamed up to become "ShareNow", but you still need both apps to access each network of cars.

Then, there's my new favourite: Miles ( iOS / Android ). Compared to DriveNow and Car2Go, they're a relatively new service. The difference? They charge by kilometre rather than minutes. This means you don't have to rush across the city and stress about finding parking - take your time and enjoy the drive. Prices start from 0.79€ for a small hatchback to €1.19 for a transporter van (great for moving furniture). Check out the Miles pricing page for more details and use the coupon code " qbXIJfwa " for 10€ credit when you sign up.

If you want a car for a full day or longer, Drivy by Getaround allows you to rent cars from other people around the city. Some cars have even registered for "Drivy Open", which means you can access the car without even having to message the owner - although your account needs to be verified first. Use this link to get 30€ off on your first rental.

Scooter Sharing: Coup, Emmy

Although I do enjoy cycling around Berlin, my favourite way to get around the city for slightly longer distances is by the electric scooters provided by Coup and Emmy.

Coup ( iOS / Android ) is my preferred choice due to its simplicity: it costs 0.21€ per minute. Use the code " REF-UAB4-WYGQ " for 3 free rides when you first sign up. The scooters are seemingly everywhere, feel very light and manoeuvrable, and the acceleration is quick enough to beat most cars off a red light.

Emmy ( iOS / Android ) comes with the added bonus of a second helmet with each scooter, which means that you can carry a passenger and split the costs. The pricing is slightly more confusing though: there's a 10€ sign-up fee which includes 50 minutes, then once your ride credit has run out, the price per minute is 0.23€. There are fewer Emmys available compared to Coup and they do feel a little clunkier in general to drive, but they're a great option when you're driving two people. Use the code " i1XF5TFj " to get an additional 15 minutes for free.

Both Coup and Emmy have easy-to-use apps, and insurance is included as standard. The only downside is that that you need a European driver's license to register. They both also offer discounted minutes if you buy them in bulk.

Bike Sharing: Donkey Republic, Nextbike, Mobike

When it comes to bike-sharing, Berliners are spoiled for choice.

I used to rely on Deezer Nextbike ( iOS / Android ) simply because they're everywhere and are full-sized. Deezer costs 1€ for 30 minutes, which is about standard for bike-sharing in Berlin.

My new favourite pick is Donkey Republic (iOS/Android) as their app is far more reliable and their bikes are even better than Nextbike. They also get cheaper the longer you use them, from 1.50€ for 15 minutes to 10€ for a full day. You can also rent bikes for up to a week.

It seems Mobike ( iOS / Android ) can be found almost everywhere you look in Berlin, which is the only reason I'd suggest it as a backup option. While they also have the occasional full-sized bikes available, standard Mobikes tend to be quite small for most people and it can be a real struggle to get anywhere fast. Still, they're all right in a pinch.

Food Delivery: Lieferando

It's easy to get a little carried away in Berlin, whether it's one of the many bars that cover the city, or that one casual Späti beer that suddenly becomes ten. If you're feeling a bit rough around the edges and don't feel like facing the world, food delivery services such  Lieferando have you covered. At the time of this article, Deliveroo has since pulled out of Germany and Foodora was acquired, so these are no longer options for Berliners.

Classifieds: eBay Kleinanzeigen, Facebook Groups

If you ever find yourself in need of a new phone because you broke yours while travelling (been there), or to buy a new backpack because the one you brought with you simply wasn't cutting it (also been there), it's handy to know what the locals use to buy and sell second-hand goods.

The name to remember here is eBay Kleinanzeigen  ( iOS / Android ), which is Germany's version of Craigslist or Gumtree. Otherwise, there are a number of Facebook groups such as Sell Your Stuff Berlin .

How to use public transit in Berlin

This guide explains how to use trains, trams, buses and ride sharing in Berlin.

Step 1: Buy a ticket

Where to buy a ticket.

To use intercity trains (IC and ICE), buy a ticket from the Deutsche Bahn website , in the DB Navigator app, a DB Reisezentrum or a DB ticket machine. You can’t buy tickets on the train.

To use everything else ( S-Bahn , U-Bahn , tram, bus, ferry), buy a local public transit ticket. It lets you travel in Berlin and parts of Brandenburg.

You can buy local public transit tickets…

• At a ticket machine Find a yellow or red ticket machine at the train station. The machines are on the train platforms, near the exits. You can pay with coins, bills, credit cards and Girocards . You can sometimes pay with Apple Pay and Google Pay. The ticket machines speak many languages. Don’t forget to stamp your ticket .
• Jelbi app   You can also rent cars, bicycles, scooters and mopeds with this app. It’s in English and German.
• BVG app It’s in English and German.
• VBB app You can buy tickets for Berlin and Brandenburg . It’s a little harder to use.
• On the tram Find a yellow ticket machine near the middle of the tram. The old machines only accept coins. The new machines only accept cards. 1
• On the bus Enter at the front of the bus, and buy a ticket from the driver. Tap your card or phone on the payment terminal near the driver. 15 If you pay cash, ask the driver for a ticket. 14
• At S-Bahn and BVG service points Buy tickets at S-Bahn and BVG service points .

At the airport , there are ticket machines on the way to the train platforms, just before you go downstairs. You can also install the BVG ticket app before you arrive in Berlin. The airport is in zone C, so you must buy an ABC ticket.

What ticket to buy

To buy a local public transit ticket…

• Choose the tariff zone Berlin has 3 tariff zones : A, B and C. Buy an AB or ABC ticket, depending on the zones you travel in. Most things are in zone A or B. The airport is in zone C.
• Choose the duration of the ticket Single tickets are valid for 2 hours in one direction. There are daily, weekly and monthly passes. Short trip tickets ( Kurzstrecke ) let you travel just a few stops.
• Choose the type of ticket There are cheaper tickets for children, students, apprentices and dogs . You need a ticket for your bicycle . Daily, weekly and monthly passes sometimes let you bring people for free.

Your ticket is valid for the S-Bahn , the U-Bahn , trams, buses, ferries, regional trains (RE) and some IC and ICE trains . It’s not valid for private buses (Flixbus, Hop-On, Hop-Off ) and tour boats.

Tariff zones

Berlin has 3 public transit zones: A, B and C.

• Zone A is central Berlin. It’s everything inside the Ringbahn ; all the central neighbourhoods.
• Zone B is everything outside the Ringbahn , but inside Berlin.
• Zone C is outside of Berlin. It includes parts of Brandenburg like the Berlin-Brandenburg airport, Potsdam and Oranienburg.

Most things are in zone A or B, so you usually need an AB ticket. If you go to the airport, you need an ABC ticket.

If you already have an AB ticket, and you want to go to zone C, get an extention ticket ( Anschlussfahrausweis ) . It’s cheaper than an ABC ticket.

If you have a Deutschland Ticket , you can travel in all zones.

Ticket duration

Single tickets are valid for 2 hours in one direction. You can take as many trains, buses and ferries as you want with the same ticket. You can stop, do some shopping, and take the train again. Your ticket only works in one direction. To go back, you must buy a new ticket.

Short trip tickets let you travel 3 train tops, or 6 bus or tram stops. If you buy them in the app, they are valid for 20 minutes. 13

Daily, monthly and weekly passes are cheaper. They usually let you bring other people for free .

The Deutschland Ticket is a monthly subscription. You can use all public transit in Germany for 49 € per month.

Ticket types

• Standard ticket This is the ticket most people need.
• Reduced price ticket ( Ermäßigungstarif ) Children between 6 and 15 years old need a reduced price ticket. Dogs too. Most tickets let you bring children for free . Some tickets let you bring a dog for free .
• Student ticket ( Schülerticket , Ausbildungsticket ) Students and apprentices get a free monthly pass . Apply for it here or here .
• Bicycle ticket ( Fahrradkarte ) You need a bicycle ticket for your bicycle. –  How to bring bikes on public transit .

If you get caught without a ticket

There are ticket checkers who enter the train and look at everyone’s tickets. They wait until the doors close, so you can’t run away. If your ticket is not valid, you get a 60 € fine.

If you have the wrong ticket, you still get a fine.

If you bought your ticket with the app, show them the ticket QR code in the app.

Step 2: Validate your ticket

Stamp your ticket before you use it . If your ticket is not stamped, it’s not valid. There are stamping machines on train platforms, and inside trams and buses. Look for a yellow or red metal box, and put your ticket in the slit.

If you buy a ticket on the bus or tram, it’s already stamped. Monthly passes are already stamped. 3

Digital tickets are valid 1 minute after you buy them. 2 Buy your ticket before you get on the train.

Step 3: Use public transport

Get on the bus, tram, train or ferry, and go where you want to go. Get directions from Google Maps ( iOS or Android ) or BVG Fahrinfo . BVG Fahrinfo has more accurate information.

Go in the right direction

The display shows a train’s last stop, not its direction. For example, the S2’s last stop could be in Bernau, Buch or Blankenburg. These trains all go in the same direction, but their last stops are not the same.

Take the bus or tram

When your bus or tram arrives, stand on the side, and let other people exit before you enter. If you stand in front of the door, you block people who try to leave.

You can use any door to get on the bus. You don’t need to show your ticket to the driver. 16

Before your stop, press the yellow or red “STOP” button near you. You will hear a “ding” sound. You will see “STOP” in the corner of the information screen. The bus will stop at the next bus stop.

To open the doors, you might need to press a button near the doors.

• S-Bahn trains The red and yellow S-Bahn trains are run by the Deutsche Bahn . They travel everywhere in Berlin, and in some parts of Brandenburg . S-Bahn line names start with an S (S1, S2, …).
• U-Bahn trains The yellow U-Bahn trains use their own rail network. They travel everywhere in Berlin. They are run by the BVG . U-Bahn line names start with a U (U1, U2, …). The “U” is for “underground”, but U-Bahn lines are not always underground. At night, U-Bahn trains are replaced by night buses.
• Trams ( Straßenbahn ) Some tram lines start with an M (M1, M2…), and others have just a number (50, 68…). Most trams are in the east. Before the reunification , there were no trams in West Berlin. At night, some tram lines are replaced by night buses. Some tram lines also run at night.
• Buses Bus stops have an “H” sign or post . There are night buses that replace U-Bahn and tram lines. 4 Night bus lines start with the letter N (N6, N7, …). Their number is the same as the bus or train line they replace (U6 and N6, 50 and N50…).
• Ferries There are a few ferries in Berlin. 5 Ferry lines start with an F (F12, F24, …).

Outside of Berlin

• Regional trains The Regio trains travel from Berlin to Brandenburg and other parts of Germany. The express lines start with RE (RE1, RE2…) and the other lines start with RB (RB10, RB49…). There is also the FEX line, which goes to the BER airport. 6
• S-Bahn trains Most S-Bahn lines end in zone C. Zone C is outside of Berlin, in Brandenburg .
• Long distance trains These trains travel to other German cities. The express line names start with ICE. The other lines start with IC. You can board some IC and ICE trains with a regular ticket. Use Omio or Bahn.de to find train tickets.

You can rent electric scooters (🛴) with the Jelbi , Bolt , Lime , Tier or Voi apps. You do not need a driving licence.

Rent a moped

You can rent motor scooters (🛵) with the Jelbi , Emmy , Felyx , Lime or Tier apps. There are also scooter rental businesses . You need a valid driving licence. Scooter rental services don’t always accept non-EU driving licences, because they’re only valid for 6 months after you move to Germany.

You can rent a car from Sixt , Avis , Budget or Europcar . RentalCars.com can help you find a rental car. You can also use car sharing services like Miles and Share Now . The Jelbi app lets you use different car sharing services. Car sharing services let you rent a car for just one trip, and park it when you are finished.

You need a valid driving licence to use those services. Car sharing services don’t always accept non-EU licences, because they’re only valid for 6 months after you move to Germany.

Call a taxi

People rarely use taxis in Berlin, because they are very expensive. 7 You can get a taxi from BerlKönig , Bolt , FreeNow , Uber , and standard taxi services. The Jelbi app also lets you book a taxi.

German taxis must accept cash and credit cards. 7 The Jelbi app also accepts PayPal.

Ride sharing

BlaBlaCar lets you ride with drivers who travel to Berlin. You meet them in one place, and drive together to another city. It’s usually the cheapest way to travel between cities.

Bicycles on public transit

You can bring your bicycle on the train (S-Bahn and U-Bahn), on the tram, on ferries, and on the N1 to N9 night buses. 8 You can’t bring your bicycle on other buses. On the U-Bahn, don’t bring your bicycle in the first carriage. Some carriages also have a “no bicycles” sign near the door. 9 On the S-Bahn, only use the carriages with a bicycle sign near the door. 9

Bicycle trailers, bicycles with more than two wheels, scooters and motorcycles are not allowed. Electric bicycles are allowed. 9

Bicycle tickets

You must buy a bicycle ticket ( Fahrradticket ) for your bicycle.

If you have a student ticket ( Schülerticket ) or an apprentice ticket ( Ausbildungsticket ), you don’t need a bicycle ticket.

If you have a folding bike , you don’t need a bicycle ticket, but your bike must be folded when you are on the train. You can also bring your folded bike on the bus and tram.

Dogs on public transit

In Berlin, you can take your dog with you in trains, trams and buses. They can’t go on the seats. They must be in a closed container. If they don’t fit in a container, they must wear a muzzle and be on a leash.

Normally, you must buy a reduced price ( Ermäßigungstarif ) ticket for your dog, but there are exceptions. You can bring your dog on the train, tram or bus for free if… 10

• It’s not bigger than a house cat, and you carry it in a closed container
• or you have a daily, weekly, monthly or yearly pass
• or your dog is a guide dog
• or you have a student ticket
• or you have an apprentice ticket

If you have a Deutschland Ticket , you can bring a dog with you for free, but only in zones A, B and C. In the rest of Germany, the rules can be different.

Justin Timberlake arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated in the Hamptons

Justin Timberlake has been arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

The " Selfish " singer was apprehended by police in the Hamptons at 12:37 a.m. Tuesday, according to a press release from the Sag Harbor Village Police Department.

According to police, Timberlake was pulled over after failing to stop at a stop sign and "maintain his lane of travel." "Upon investigation it was determined that Mr. Timberlake was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated position," the release claims.

The singer was held overnight following his arrest and was released on his own recognizance following his Tuesday morning arraignment.

USA TODAY has reached out to Timberlake's representatives for comment.

Justin Timberlake's arrest comes amid his Forget Tomorrow tour

The 43-year-old's arrest comes ahead of two concerts on The Forget Tomorrow World Tour in Chicago on Friday and Saturday. 

The "Mirrors" singer, actor and former member of the boyband NSYNC announced the tour in January , his first in five years. The North American leg of the tour kicked off in April at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada, with stops including cities in the U.S., Canada, Europe and the U.K.

Timberlake's return to the stage follows the release of his sixth album,  "Everything I Thought It Was ."

"I worked for a long time on this album and I ended up with 100 songs," he told Zane Lowe for  Apple Music 1 in January. "So narrowing them down to 18 was a thing, and then, yeah, I’m really excited about this album. I think every artist probably says this, but it is my best work."

He added: "There are moments that are incredibly honest, but also, there’s a lot of fun on this album. … Some of the songs are more introspective and some of them are more what I think people know me for."

Timberlake also performed several free shows , including a stop in his hometown of Memphis, New York City and Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles show in March included a surprise performance of his song "Paradise," which features his NSYNC bandmates.

Videos on social media  showed Timberlake standing as the curtain behind him slowly revealed  Lance Bass ,  Joey Fatone ,  Chris Kirkpatrick  and  JC Chasez . The crowd instantly went wild, screaming louder than the group as they began singing.

The group performed "Paradise" and "Bye Bye Bye" together, bridging their new music with their classic hit. The night marked their first performance with all five band members since their reunion at the 2013 VMAs.

BERLIN -- Whether it's UNO games with her family or a reading challenge with her boyfriend, Coco Gauff's competitive streak is as wholesome as it is unquenchable. 

While Gauff was biding time over the weekend ahead of the ecotrans Ladies Open, she posted the progress of mid-year progress on her reading challenge. The World No.2 has already torn through 12 books, ranging from autobiographies and dystopian fantasies to Japanese and American fiction. 

"[The reading challenge] started because I loved reading as a kid and I kind of lost it when I got older," Gauff told reporters at media day. "So at first my goal was to read 12 books, one per month. Then my boyfriend has this thing where he reads the amount of books as the year we're in, so 24 in 2024, 23 in 2023.

"So when he said he was going to read 24, I got super competitive and I doubled my goal to match his and I like trying to finish faster than him," she said. "I'm two books ahead, so I'm winning right now."

Grass is a surface that holds bittersweet memories for Gauff. She made her Hologic WTA Tour debut five years ago at Wimbledon as a 15-year-old qualifier and proceeded to defeat her idol, Venus Williams, in the first round before making the Round of 16. She returned to that stage the following year, but a first-round exit last year left her reeling. 

Gauff responded to that loss the way great champions do. She lost only four matches for the rest of the season, picking up her first WTA 500 title (Washington D.C.), WTA 1000 (Cincinnati) and Grand Slam New York). 

Gauff is the top seed this week in Berlin, where she was a semifinalist two years ago. After a first-round bye she will face Ekaterina Alexandrova, who began her grass season last week with a run to the semifinals at 's-Hertogenbosch.

"Last year I didn't do so well, so there's nothing to lose," Gauff said. "I'm really happy to be back on grass."

It will be Gauff's last few weeks before the stakes get real for the American. She is set to represent Team USA at the Paris 2024 Olympics before embarking on the back half of the season in which she will have the daunting task to defend two big titles.  

"The calendar is full, but it's just a sacrifice I'm willing to make," Gauff said, referring to the Olympics. She qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 but was unable to attend after contracting COVID-19.

"I know I have a lot to defend in the hard-court season, but there's experiences that you ask yourself if it's worth sacrificing for and for me, this is one of those times that I'm willing to."
