The Asteroids Galaxy Tour is an indie and psychedelic pop band from Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen. They formed in 2007 and have built a reputation of their songs featuring in Film, TV and Commercials.

It was in their formative years that the band decided to record a demo. The demo was heard by Amy Winehouse’ management, who asked the group to open for her in Copenhagen. This was the band’s first live show, and soon after, their track “Around the Bend” was chosen by Apple to be used in the new iPod Touch commercial and to be aired worldwide from December 2008. After the success of the commercial, this track became the band’s biggest single to date helping to launch the band onto the international stage. They even supported Katy Perry on her 2009 summer tour in Europe.

The band has had a lot of promotion, with their works being used in TV commercials, Film and TV shows. Myer, Australia’s largest department store chain used the song “the Golden Age" to launch their 2009 summer range and SBS Television used the song “The Golden Age” to promote the U.S. television series, Mad Men. Even Heineken International used the song in the 2011 commercial, “The Entrance” where the band in fact featured in the commercial.

“Around the Bend" is featured in the Anna Wintour documentary movie, The September Issue which was released in 2009. In 2008, three songs by the band were featured on the Gossip Girl episode “It’s a Wonderful Life”. “Around the Bend" was featured in the NBC TV series Chuck in episode 209. “The Sun Ain’t Shining No More” has been selected as the theme song of the Canadian action comedy television series InSecurity, which premiered on January 4th 2011.

The band has experienced chart success with their song “The Golden Age” which became a hit in Austria, Switzerland, Spain, UK, Canada and the US. They released an album called “Bring Us Together” on September 15th 2014.

Live reviews

Shooting to some kind of fame after ‘The Golden Age’ was used to market a popular beer, all the hard work put in by Danish act Asteroids Galaxy Tour since forming in 2007 has finally started to pay off. The core duo of Mette Lindberg and Lars Iversen write complex pop songs with killer hooks filling their albums Fruit and Out of Frequency with great songs that could really all be used to market whatever you like, such is the power of the band’s catchy hooks. Some of AGT’s songs have been used during rather well-known TV programmes like Chuck and Gossip Girl, while Mette herself appeared as a guest on Never Mind the Buzzcocks back in 2008. But never mind all that, what about the music itself? Well, Mette Lindberg is the one to watch, a bundle of energy and in possession of a powerful voice that one moment can sound helium-filled, the next she’s belting songs out like a soul singer. They will of course play ‘The Golden Age’, its swinging 60s feel supplemented by a dose of electronica but there’s also the giddy ‘Heart Attack’ which has crazy synths burbling over a little garage rock riff and the set will close out with the funky brass attack of ‘Major’ – which, in fact, is by far their best song. It will probably turn out that you know more Asteroids Galaxy Tour songs than you think – and the ones you don’t? Well, that’s just a bonus.

Despite sounding more like a live schedule than a band, Danish pop outfit The Asteroids Galaxy Tour have forged quite a reputation for themselves following the release of their debut album 'Fruit' in 2009. The brain child of vocalist and producer Mette Lindberg and Lars Iversen, TAGT have become known through central Europe as one of the liveliest and most involving acts on the circuit.

Bounding onstage in a wash of colour and sound, the five musicians take their place and warmly greet the crowd before performing a double opener of 'Hero' and 'Push The Envelope'. The energy is clearly infectious and the audience are beginning to move, jump and even dance in places under the command of the likeable Mette. They work through a setlist primarily comprising of tracks from 'Fruit' yet there is some new music showcased this evening with similarly shiny production and infectious melodic hooks. There is no doubt that The Asteriods Galaxy Tour are one of the most fun artists currently working.

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour

Putting a 21st century spin on the hip late-'60s world of Burt Bacharach, Sly Stone, and Barbarella, Denmark's the Asteroids Galaxy Tour had barely let their demo out into the world before fame came calling thanks to Amy Winehouse and the iPod family. Multi-instrumentalist Lars Iversen and vocalist Mette Lindberg formed the Asteroids in 2007. Thanks to a freshly pressed demo landing in the right hands, their debut gig was an opening slot at the request of Winehouse when the superstar singer visited the duo's hometown of Copenhagen. Soon after they were signed to the major label Universal who released their debut single, "The Sun Ain't Shining No More," in 2008. As the Asteroids were preparing their debut album and expanding their live lineup to a six-piece, their B-52's-flavored, retro-party single was featured in a television commercial for Apple's iPod Touch MP3 player. ~ David Jeffries

Our Solar System: Facts

Our solar system is made up of a star, eight planets, and countless smaller bodies such as dwarf planets, asteroids, and comets.

10 ThingS ABOUT OUR SOLAR SYSTEM

1. Our planetary system is called “the solar system” because we use the word “solar” to describe things related to our star, after the Latin word for Sun, "solis."

Illustration of the Solar System.

2. Our solar system orbits the center of the Milky Way galaxy at about 515,000 mph (828,000 kph). We’re in one of the galaxy’s four spiral arms.

Sun in Milky Way

3. It takes our solar system about 230 million years to complete one orbit around the galactic center.

Illustration of spacecraft heading toward center of Milky Way.

4. There are three general kinds of galaxies: elliptical, spiral, and irregular. The Milky Way is a spiral galaxy.

A spiral galaxy, a fuzzy oval tilted diagonally and partially towards the viewer. The center glows in warm colors, and has two prominent spiral arms around it, with bright points of star formation. The galaxy appears centrally in a field of small stars and galaxies on a dark background.

5. Our solar system is a region of space. It has no atmosphere. But it contains many worlds – including Earth – with many kinds of atmospheres.

A setting, waning crescent moon amid the thin line of Earth's atmosphere.

6. The planets of our solar system – and even many asteroids – hold hundreds of moons in their orbits.

7. The four giant planets – and at least one asteroid – have rings. None are as spectacular as Saturn’s gorgeous rings.

8. More than 300 robotic spacecraft from many nations have explored destinations beyond Earth's orbit.

9. Our solar system is the only one known to support life. So far, we only know of life on Earth, but we’re looking for more everywhere we can.

A view of Earth in the blackness of space, looking toward the Pacific Ocean, shows only blue ocean and clouds.

10. NASA’s Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 are the only spacecraft leaving our solar system. Three other spacecraft – Pioneer 10, Pioneer 11, and New Horizons – will eventually hit interstellar space.

Voyager 1 and the solar system with orbits

Size and Distance

Our solar system extends much farther than the planets that orbit the Sun. The solar system also includes the Kuiper Belt that lies past Neptune's orbit. This is a sparsely occupied ring of icy bodies, almost all smaller than the most popular Kuiper Belt Object – dwarf planet Pluto .

Beyond the fringes of the Kuiper Belt is the Oort Cloud . This giant spherical shell surrounds our solar system. It has never been directly observed, but its existence is predicted based on mathematical models and observations of comets that likely originate there.

The Oort Cloud is made of icy pieces of space debris - some bigger than mountains – orbiting our Sun as far as 1.6 light-years away. This shell of material is thick, extending from 5,000 astronomical units to 100,000 astronomical units. One astronomical unit (or AU) is the distance from the Sun to Earth, or about 93 million miles (150 million kilometers).

The Oort Cloud is the boundary of the Sun's gravitational influence, where orbiting objects can turn around and return closer to our Sun.

The Sun's heliosphere doesn't extend quite as far. The heliosphere is the bubble created by the solar wind – a stream of electrically charged gas blowing outward from the Sun in all directions. The boundary where the solar wind is abruptly slowed by pressure from interstellar gases is called the termination shock. This edge occurs between 80-100 astronomical units.

Two NASA spacecraft launched in 1977 have crossed the termination shock: Voyager 1 in 2004 and Voyager 2 in 2007. Voyager 1 went interstellar in 2012 and Voyager 2 joined it in 2018. But it will be many thousands of years before the two Voyagers exit the Oort Cloud.

According to the  NASA/JPL Solar System Dynamics  team, the current tally of moons orbiting planets in our solar system is 293: One moon for Earth; two for Mars; 95 at Jupiter; 146 at Saturn; 28 at Uranus; 16 at Neptune; and five for dwarf planet Pluto.

Astronomers also have documented more than 470 satellites, or moons, orbiting smaller objects, such as asteroids, dwarf planets, or Kuiper Belt Objects (KBOs) beyond the orbit of Neptune. These moons are called s mall-body satellites .

Of the eight planets, Mercury and Venus are the only ones with no moons, although Venus does have a quasi-satellite that has  officially been named Zoozve .

The giant planets Jupiter and Saturn lead our solar system’s moon counts. In some ways, the swarms of moons around these worlds resemble mini versions of our solar system.

Pluto, smaller than our own moon, has five moons in its orbit, including Charon, a moon so large it makes Pluto wobble.

Our solar system formed about 4.5 billion years ago from a dense cloud of interstellar gas and dust. The cloud collapsed, possibly due to the shockwave of a nearby exploding star, called a supernova. When this dust cloud collapsed, it formed a solar nebula – a spinning, swirling disk of material.

At the center, gravity pulled more and more material in. Eventually, the pressure in the core was so great that hydrogen atoms began to combine and form helium, releasing a tremendous amount of energy. With that, our Sun was born, and it eventually amassed more than 99% of the available matter.

Matter farther out in the disk was also clumping together. These clumps smashed into one another, forming larger and larger objects. Some of them grew big enough for their gravity to shape them into spheres, becoming planets, dwarf planets, and large moons. In other cases, planets did not form: the asteroid belt is made of bits and pieces of the early solar system that could never quite come together into a planet. Other smaller leftover pieces became asteroids, comets, meteoroids, and small, irregular moons.

The order and arrangement of the planets and other bodies in our solar system is due to the way the solar system formed. Nearest to the Sun, only rocky material could withstand the heat when the solar system was young. For this reason, the first four planets – Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars – are terrestrial planets. They are all small with solid, rocky surfaces.

Meanwhile, materials we are used to seeing as ice, liquid, or gas settled in the outer regions of the young solar system. Gravity pulled these materials together, and that is where we find gas giants Jupiter and Saturn, and the ice giants Uranus and Neptune.

Golf Galaxy Employee Sinks Three Beers And Then Qualifies For First Ever PGA Tour Event Via Marathon Playoff

"That's the guy who downed three beers before qualifying for this" is the kind of sentence that Nick Bienz might well hear a few times as he makes his way around Detroit Golf Club at the Rocket Mortgage Classic this week. The story behind how he arrived there is fantastic.

After playing college golf and graduating from Indiana University-Indianapolis (formerly IUPUI) in 2019, the 2023 Indiana Open champion set about trying to forge a path to the paid ranks. Bienz opted to turn pro and began working part-time at Golf Galaxy to help fund his career while practicing hard when off the clock.

The 27-year-old had never reached the main draw of a PGA Tour-sanctioned event in several years of trying, teeing it up in pre-qualifiers and Monday qualifying on numerous occasions. But he always had a good feeling about The Orchards Golf Club in Michigan and had gone close to making it through before, only to ultimately fall just short.

Lessons learned, he rocked up in 2024 feeling good about his game and hopeful of a successful week. One bogey-free round of 65 later - which featured a tap-in eagle on 15 and a closing birdie from 12 feet - and it was looking extremely promising that he would nab one of the four Monday Qualifier spots.

The man from Hoagland, Indiana was in the clubhouse tied for the lead on seven-under (65) along with two other players, but with a handful of groups yet to finish. Understandably nervous about this potentially life-changing moment, Bienz ordered a beer to calm his nerves. And then another one. And then another one.

Speaking to Monday Q Info's Ryan French in the clubhouse, Bienz said: “I need every ounce of alcohol to calm the nervous system and not vomit all over myself. That’s where we’re at right now.”

Two more players carded 65s, and Bienz was required to play in a five-for-four playoff alongside Beau Breault, Danny Guise, Brandon Berry and Angelo Giantsopolous to decide which unfortunate golfer missed out.

Chatting to French as they walked to the first tee again, Bienz reportedly said to him: “Remember how I said three beers would be a perfect amount? Well, I’m perfect.”

By the time all was said and done, though, there was every chance that Bienz had sobered up somewhat. After Berry locked up his spot via a birdie at the first, the four remaining players continued their stalemate until the sixth extra hole, when Giantsopolous drained a superb 40 footer.

All would be decided at the eighth playoff hole, with Bienz first to card a birdie from four feet and Guise eventually following him in.

“I have to call my boss and call out of work tomorrow,” Bienz said. “I’m supposed to be there at 7:30 in the morning, and I don’t think that’s going to happen.”

The Indiana University-Indianapolis graduate is now exempt from all pre-qualifiers for the rest of the season and will make his way over to Detroit ahead of Thursday's opening tee shot alongside the likes of defending champion Rickie Fowler , Tom Kim , and Will Zalatoris .

“I didn’t even pack clothes for this week,” Bienz said. “Every time I’d go to a Monday for a Korn Ferry Event, I used to pack like eight days’ worth of clothes; never made it through, so now I’ve gone to the strategy of pack just enough for the Monday and we’ll figure it out if we need to."

Since Monday Q Info's report emerged, people have been donating to Bienz's Venmo account to help him cover the expenses racked up during a week on tour. Veteran Tour pro Kevin Kisner - considered by many to be one of the friendliest pros out there - also published a post on social media asking to be paired with Bienz during the first two rounds.

Three beers is apparently the perfect amount for this golfer.

Nick Bienz, a Golf Galaxy employee, survived a playoff qualifier to play in this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic after downing a few cold ones.

Bienz, 27, shot 7-under 65 thanks to a 12-foot birdie on the 18th hole at The Orchards Golf Club in Michigan, tying four other golfers looking to make it into the PGA Tour event.

Nick Bienz just before playing the playoff qualifier on Monday.

A perhaps slightly wobbly Bienz survived the eight-hole playoff, qualifying for his first-ever PGA Tour-sanctioned event with a little buzz on.

“I have to call my boss and call off work tomorrow for sure,” Bienz said after the round, per Golfweek. “I’m supposed to be there at 7:30 in the morning (Tuesday) and I don’t think that’s going to happen.”

If this four minutes doesn’t make you love Mondays I can’t help you. Nick Bienz works at Golf Galaxy, has never played any pga tour sanctioned event, he is so nervous he’s pounding beers. Just shot 65. Please take the time to watch this. pic.twitter.com/BeXgsjiWFv — Monday Q Info (@acaseofthegolf1) June 24, 2024

Bienz will be one of 156 golfers at Detroit Golf Club on Thursday and playing for a purse of $9.2 million.

He’ll tee off at 2:22 p.m. ET in the last grouping of the day alongside Rafael Campos and Anders Albertson.

“This is by far the craziest day of my life,” Bienz wrote on X. “Thank you so much to everyone. Let’s have a freaking week!”

This is by far the craziest day of my life. Thank you so much to everyone. Let’s have a freaking week! 😎 https://t.co/Pwc2RuHmmR — Nick Bienz (@nick_bienz1) June 24, 2024

Nick Bienz has quickly become a cult hero for golf fans.

Bienz appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday ahead of his big weekend in Detroit.

“Everybody needs a little swing oil,” Bienz said. “It’s just about finding the right balance. For me, it just happened to be three.”

The world’s most dangerous cheese is served covered in jumping maggots

Cheese is a wonderful food. It’s a core component of many meals, including some of my personal favorites. But not all cheese is good. In fact, some of it is downright terrifying—and even dangerous. enter casu marzu, the world’s most dangerous cheese. What makes this cheese so dangerous, you ask? Well, this cheese is made with the help of the larvae of the cheese fly, Piophila casei , and they’re still alive and in the cheese when people eat it.

The main reason that casu marzu is considered the world’s most dangerous cheese, though, comes down to the fact that eating the cheese—even if you somehow got rid of most of the maggots in the cheese on your plate—you still might end up infected with intestinal myiasis . This is essentially when maggots congregate and live in your digestive system.

Casu Marzu - world's most dangerous cheese

It’s a really dangerous issue, and when patients become infected with the condition, it can lead to things like abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. Some infected patients can even be asymptomatic—meaning they won’t know they have maggots living out of their digestive tract because they won’t show any signs of the infection.

Kind of crazy, right? Despite being considered the world’s most dangerous cheese, casu marzu is also an extreme delicacy that has been enjoyed for thousands of years in Sardinia. Some have even said they didn’t notice the maggots at all when eating it. I find that hard to believe, considering how much they seem to jump around, but maybe those people got lucky.

Either way, I don’t think I’ll be looking to taste casu marzu anytime soon. In fact, I’d prefer to forget that this terrifyingly disgusting cheese even exists. But since brains don’t really work that way, I’ll have to live with the knowledge that someone is probably eating cheese full of live maggots somewhere each day. I guess, at least, it isn’t driving anything to extinction like frog legs are, though.

Last summer, The Eagles announced their final concert trek, The Long Goodbye Tour. The venture is over, but fans still have a few chances to catch the band one more time before they put their instruments down for good.

The rock group recently extended their upcoming residency again, apparently due to “overwhelming demand,” according to a press release. The band is planning on wrapping their performing career at the Sphere in Las Vegas, and as dates sell out, they continue to add more and more, as their followers can’t seem to get enough.

The Eagles will now play four concerts this coming December. For two weekends in a row—December 6 through 7 and 13 through 14—they’ll headline the Sphere, and these may be the absolute final dates for the group.

The rock outfit’s Las Vegas residency is set to begin on Friday, September 20. They already have six weekends of Friday and Saturday shows lined up throughout that month, as well as in both October and November.

A press release announcing the new concerts states that tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, July 10 at 10:00 PST. An Artist Presale signup begins the day prior, and certain VIP packages will also become available that same day.

The Eagles are set to become just the fourth act to headline the Sphere. U2 inaugurated the venue in September 2023, when the Irish rockers started their highly successful U2: Achtung Baby Live at Sphere run. That 40-date project ended up netting a little more than $240 million in ticket grosses.

After U2, Phish took over. The jam band only played four dates in April 2024, and they were quickly followed by another well-known name in their field. Dead & Company’s Dead Forever: Live at Sphere started in May, and at the moment, it’s scheduled to continue through August.

Golfer downs three beers before rocket mortgage classic monday qualifier playoff, then advances to his first pga tour event, share this article.

One of the better follows on golf social media is Monday Q Info , powered by Ryan French. In his latest hunt for great content, he brings us Nick Bienz, who survived a playoff in the Monday qualifier for the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Bienz was one of five golfers to post a 7-under 65 at The Orchards Golf Club in Washington, Michigan, but there were only four spots available, so off to a 5-for-4 playoff they went. It was Bienz gunning it out alongside Danny Guise, Angelo Giantsopoulos, Brandon Berry and Beau Breault.

But before the playoff started, Bienz, in attempt to calm his nerves, pounded three cold ones.

The eight-hole playoff finally ended when Breault was odd man out, coming up short against two birdies on the final hole.

As for Bienz, he has never played in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event. Now he’ll be one of 156 golfers in the field at Detroit Golf Club on Thursday morning. He’ll find out his grouping Tuesday afternoon.

Pro golfer Bo Van Pelt even made a plea to Bienz’s employer, Golf Galaxy.

@golfgalaxy – one of your employees @nick_bienz1 just qualified for the @RocketMortgage @PGATOUR event in Detroit. I hope there is some gear and a possible sponsorship deal headed his way. @acaseofthegolf1 — Bo Van Pelt (@bovanpelt) June 24, 2024

“I have to call my boss and call off work tomorrow for sure,” Bienz told French after his round. “I’m supposed to be there at 7:30 in the morning [Tuesday] and I don’t think that’s going to happen.”

Among those who came up short in the Monday qualifier were Robert Garrigus, Ryan Palmer and Michael Gligic.
