I live in Massachusetts and I was thinking of renting a place in Bermuda for February and March but I’m wondering about the weather. I understand it can be in the high 60s low 70s which is fine for me. I’m not looking to jump in the ocean. Just want to get out of the cold of Massachusetts. I haven’t been back to Bermuda in a long time. And is it exceptionally windy or rainy or very humid?

No matter what the atmospheric conditions are – hey – you are in a sub-tropical paradise! Don’t know whether to go here or there? Go everywhere – and MUST CHECK THE BERMUDA AQUARIUM MUSEUM AND ZOO (BAMZ) – AWESOME!

It’s a small island but has some interesting places to visit including the above mentioned as well as the caves. It’s nice to have things to do when the late winter winds blow and you have to get off the beautiful golf courses. You are right, it will be warmer than the northeast US and Canada.

That is if your are traveling or working there during the winter months. If your from a cold climate however, the cold days shouldn’t bother you much and it rains much less then which is a plus.

I lived in Bermuda for a year from the U.S. Chilly is an understatement. It gets down right cold in February. On certain days from late January till March I remember freezing and I’m from New York. Not in comparison to the cold in the U.S. But the temperature drop is a shock when being used to such warm weather throughout the year there. I never needed the amount of clothing needing during the winters in the U.S. But gather up a few sweaters, some socks and a leather or suede jacket just in case. Lol.

Not cold – just DAMP you can feel deep – and that is not all the time at all – because no matter what the temperature is if you are out in the sun shine you can really FEEL THE BURN!

GREAT PLACE FOR A VACATION. The weather is beautiful and the scenery is too die for.

The rain can be very heavy. It can come from nowhere. I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve left home wearing my suit to go to work and it’s been sunny so I’ve not taken an umbrella, and then arrived at the office completely soaked. One day I’ll learn I suppose.

During the winter it can get a bit chilly if you are riding a moped, so don’t forget a coat.

Fun four- or five-night getaways either don't stay overnight in Bermuda, or include a single overnight and a half-day stay on the second day. These can be easily added to a visit to East Coast departure ports, such as Manhattan, Boston and Baltimore.

Alternate ways to cruise to Bermuda include stopovers on some transatlantic cruises and on lengthier sailings that include stops in the Bahamas , the Caribbean or even on Canada and New England cruises.

Best Bermuda cruise lines

As mentioned above, Norwegian offers the most sail dates, cruising from both Manhattan and Boston most of the year. Even though the line's itineraries are mostly seven nights, look for an occasional five-night choice, as well as lengthier cruises that include other destinations.

Carnival Cruise Line is easiest on your Bermuda budget, running multiple cruise lengths from multiple ports, starting at only four nights. Royal Caribbean leans heavily into five-night itineraries, but those can often be booked back-to-back with longer cruises to other destinations. MSC Cruises, a newer entrant in the Bermuda cruise market, sticks with seven-night cruises, though you can book those sailings back to back with ones that feature a week visiting Florida and the Bahamas for a 14-night island-hopping escape. All four of these lines are ideal for family or group travel.

To step up a notch, try Celebrity Cruises , which designs its ships with adults in mind. Celebrity sails a regular schedule of seven-night cruises from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, all featuring two nights in King's Wharf.

If you want a high-end experience and the aforementioned luxury lines aren't sailing when you want to travel, consider the exclusive ship-within-a-ship enclaves on MSC Cruises (Yacht Club) and Norwegian (The Haven).

Things to do in Bermuda

Obviously, those pink beaches call like a siren song. Dockyard Beach and Snorkel Park Beach are the closest to the cruise pier in King's Wharf. Both are known for snorkeling. Butts Beach features picturesque rock formations scattered amid the sand, both in and out of the water. For long stretches of uninterrupted sand, try Elbow Beach.

When you've had your fill of beaches, you can explore multiple historical sites and popular landmarks in Bermuda.

Bermuda is Britain's oldest colony, so expect plenty of British charm along with a healthy dose of history. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, the town of St. George's doesn't have the only fortress on the island, just the largest. Fort St. Catherine was used by the British, the Bermudian militia and Royal Artillery units from 1612 until well into the twentieth century.

Museums abound in Bermuda, including the National Museum of Bermuda found at the Royal Naval Dockyard. Don't overlook the Bermuda Underwater Institute and the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo.

Caves are also popular attractions in Bermuda. In fact, the airport sits on an island named Cave Island. Several caves are open to the public and shore excursions featuring them are common. Crystal and Fantasy Caves are part of one attraction offering tours, shopping and food. Cathedral Cave is located at Grotto Bay Beach Resort, but nonguests are allowed to visit the cave.

Lighthouses are scattered around the islands, but the two most popular to visit are Gibbs Hill and St. David's. All those lighthouses didn't do much to prevent disasters at sea. Bermuda is considered the shipwreck capital of the Atlantic Ocean. You can easily visit a few of the wreck sites by snorkeling, helmet dives and scuba. Others are a bit deeper and require certified scuba diving. Some are accessible from shore, but most require boat tours.

If you're into a bit of nighttime boating, consider an after-dark boat ride into the Bermuda Triangle, complete with ghostly tales.

Serious golfers delight in the seven courses in Bermuda — all worth checking out: Turtle Hill, Mid-Ocean, Port Royal, Tucker's Point, Ocean View, Newstead Belmont Hills and Five Forts. The rest of us can get into the putting action at Bermuda Fun Golf at the Royal Naval Dockyard.

Best Bermuda cruise ports

Bermuda has three cruise ports: the main port at King's Wharf (also referred to as Royal Naval Dockyards), the capital city of Hamilton in the middle of the island and St. George's near the northeastern end. Most ships dock at King's Wharf because it's the only one that can service the larger ships.

If you can envision the map of Bermuda as a big fishhook, the Dockyards (and King's Wharf) are at the tip of the pointy part of the hook. Adjacent to the wharf, cruise passengers will find beaches, the National Museum of Bermuda, tour operators, mini golf and transportation options for getting around the entire cluster of islands, including ferry service to both Hamilton and St. George's.

Hamilton and St. George's are much smaller ports and only serve a handful of smaller ships each year. Look for cruises on Oceania, Windstar and Silversea that visit these.

When to book a Bermuda cruise

If you plan to cruise to Bermuda in the peak season, the best cabin selections and prices will be found months ahead of time. Black Friday deals might be the best option. You can find last-minute availability and often deals by booking outside the popular vacation months of June, July and August.

May and October both offer daytime temperatures near 80 degrees, making them ideal months to cruise to Bermuda, and you'll likely find the islands less crowded.

What to bring on a Bermuda cruise

Bermuda is a bit dressier than, say, the Bahamas. Even shopping, touring or heading to the beach, you'll want to spiff things up a bit. Dress like you're headed to one of those golf courses or going sailing on a yacht, and you'll fit right in. A pair of Bermuda shorts and your best kicks will work just fine.

Bermuda weather is temperate, with only small seasonal variations. Average daytime highs rarely break 90 degrees, and the average lows almost never dip below 60 degrees. Layers are ideal; as with almost any island travel, you should plan for rain. Because your time in port might be lengthy, you'll need a backpack or tote to haul your stuff around all day.

Passports are not required on closed loop (departing and returning to the same U.S. port) dedicated Bermuda cruises but might be required by some cruise lines. Adult passengers without passports will need a certified copy of a birth certificate and a government-issued photo ID. Children under the age of 16 do not need a photo ID but must have a birth certificate.

Official rules aside, passports are strongly recommended, as they are required to return to the U.S. by air. In the event of an injury, illness or cruise alteration that requires a flight back to the U.S. rather than returning to the same port by sea, a passport would have to be procured while in Bermuda.

“While there are stunning hotels in Bermuda, accommodation and dining can be expensive; [however], overnighting on a ship with accommodations and meals (and, in many cases, beverages) included tends to be a good value,” explains T+L A-List advisor Rob Clabbers , the founder and president of Q Cruise + Travel , a Virtuoso agency in Chicago. While there are many Bermuda cruises to choose from across an array of different lines — from small-ship luxury fleets to massive mega-ships — it’s worth noting that “most larger ships dock at the historic Royal Naval Dockyard in the West End” while some smaller ships “call at the port of Hamilton, the capital of Bermuda,” explains Clabbers.

Norwegian Cruise Line

This World’s Best Award-winning mega-ship ocean line stands out for its laid-back approach to cruising. (Fun fact: They were the first line to eliminate set dining times to afford passengers more flexibility.) According to Fora travel advisor Cameron Tempest , the line “offers multiple itineraries from 4-9 days, leaving from several East Coast cities” for optimal convenience; meanwhile, the itineraries “offer some great options to spend up to three days in Bermuda or even see Bermuda and sail all the way down to NCL’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas.” We’d also be remiss not to mention the ample onboard activities, entertainment, restaurants, and bars that are sure to please cruisers of all ages. Last but not least, guests can choose from a slew of accommodation options — from wallet-friendly interior cabins to splurge-worthy suites — across all the line’s ships.

Itinerary: Norwegian Cruise Line offers an array of Bermuda cruise itineraries from which to choose. However, says Clabbers, “Time-starved adults and families alike will appreciate a quick 4-day cruise on the brand-new Norwegian Aqua ,” which sails round-trip from New York. The  3,571-passenger vessel is loaded with amenities, including the Aqua Slidecoaster, a combination rollercoaster and water slide; the glass-bottomed Oceanwalk promenade; and the Haven complex, a “ship within a ship” area reserved for suite guests (which Clabbers notes is a favorite of his clients). “You will absolutely not be bored en route to the island,” he says, “with so many activities, restaurants, and entertainment.”

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises is among our readers' favorite mega-ship ocean lines thanks to its upscale ambiance, which Clabbers describes as “more sophisticated but not stuffy.” What’s more, this World’s Best Award Hall of Fame honoree is sure to impress with its sleek onboard spaces, including an adults-only Solarium and the swanky Retreat, which is exclusive to suite guests. Clabbers is also quick to call out the line’s exceptional dining — including eateries helmed by Michelin-starred chef Daniel Boulud — and its spa, which offers over 120 treatments.

Itinerary: The 7-night Bermuda cruise from Cape Liberty, New Jersey , takes place aboard Celebrity Silhouette, which Clabbers describes as “impressive.” Part of Celebrity’s popular Solstice class, this ship offers “something for everyone,” Clabbers says, from the Camp At Sea kids club to croquet and bocce ball and luxurious suites at the Retreat. While not explicitly adults-only, this luxury cruise line — which is among our readers’ favorite mid-size ocean lines — is definitely geared more towards grown-ups thanks to its refined vibes, gourmet cuisine, and sophisticated atmosphere. And while an Oceania sailing can be pricey, it packs plenty of value: The line’s signature Simply More offer includes a slew of free perks, like shore excursions, drink packages, Wi-Fi, and gourmet specialty dining.

Itinerary: “While most cruise lines depart from the New York area to visit Bermuda, the highly rated Oceania Vista (1,200 guests) can take you round-trip from Miami on April 19, 2025 ,” says Clabbers, who also notes the quality food and “country-club casual atmosphere” that’s well suited for cruisers without kids. He also describes the itinerary as “unique,” since it includes stops in Key West, Cape Canaveral, Charleston, and a private island in the Bahamas — in addition to two days at Bermuda’s Royal Naval Dockyard.

Bermuda cruisers craving an intimate onboard ambiance coupled with top-notch amenities and all-suite accommodations — each with ocean views, most with private balconies — need not look further than Silversea, which offers a luxury all-inclusive experience. High-end dining, unlimited pours of certain alcohol, shore excursions, and gratuities are all built into the cost of a Silversea cruise, making planning a breeze. While days in port are best enjoyed off-ship, travelers can easily pass the time on board by visiting the tranquil spa, listening to a guest lecturer, or enjoying live music.

“My preferred cruise line for Bermuda is Royal Caribbean,” says Melissa Loor , a travel agent at Marvelous Mouse Travels. This massive mega-ship ocean line offers fun for everyone, including (but not limited to) rock climbing, ziplining, water slides, several pools, carousels, Broadway-caliber shows, ice skating, and onboard escape rooms. As such, its splashy entertainment offerings — which vary depending on the ship — are ideal for kids, kids at heart, and, well, anyone in search of a good time coupled with fun in the sun. Ships are also equipped with ample drinking and dining venues to suit every palate — picky eaters included.

Itinerary: Loor especially recommends this 6-night Bermuda cruise , which sails roundtrip from New Jersey. “With overnight stays at the Royal Naval Dockyard, you are not pressured to be back on the ship in the afternoon/early evening, so you get more time to explore,” she says. Her recommended activities while you’re on shore include the pink beaches of Horseshoe Bay, the shopping in Hamilton, and themed restaurants like Calico Jack's Floating Bar , which comes with its own diving board so you can “walk the plank” into the surrounding bay waters. Bermuda is the only stop on this itinerary, she notes, and it’s bookended by travel days, meaning travelers will have “a few days at sea to relax and unwind after all [their] Bermuda adventures.”

Virgin Voyages — which was named our readers’ favorite mega-ship ocean line in the 2024 World’s Best Awards — is one of the industry’s truly adults-only cruise lines . It also boasts unique onboard amenities such as a sprawling nightclub, a tattoo parlor, and a dining scene with no buffets (instead, there are 20-plus menu-based drinking and dining venues that are completely complimentary). “I personally love the fact that Virgin Voyages is truly all-inclusive — Wi-Fi, gratuities, and all essential beverages (think water, soda, and drip coffee) are already included in your cruise fare,” says Charlene Recio , a travel advisor at Marvelous Mouse Travels.

Itinerary: Spanning a total of five nights, the Big Apple to Bermuda cruise features an overnight stay at Kings Wharf in Bermuda — which, per Recio, “allows travelers to truly immerse themselves in the culture and history” of the destination — as well as two days at sea. According to the travel advisor, the itinerary is “perfect for travelers who consider the features of the ship just as important as the destinations they are traveling to.” Passengers will sail aboard Brilliant Lady , the line’s newest ship, slated to debut in 2025.

MSC Cruises

This mega-ship ocean line is sure to please families of all ages with its splashy entertainment offerings, bustling common spaces, and all-around high-energy vibes. That said, those craving a more refined onboard experience should splurge on a suite in the MSC Yacht Club, a ship-within-a-ship concept that offers access to exclusive venues — including a dedicated restaurant, a private solarium, and a swanky lounge — as well as butler service. Yacht Club guests enjoy free Wi-Fi, spa access, and the line’s signature Premium Extra Package for drinks, among other perks.

Itinerary: MSC Cruises offers a handful of Bermuda cruises sailing round-trip from Brooklyn, New York, aboard the massive MSC Meraviglia. Onboard highlights include the 315-foot promenade dotted with shops and restaurants, a bowling alley, racing simulators, and several water slides. Tight on time? The mega-ship ocean line is also famous for its wallet-friendly fares, making it a popular pick among cost-conscious cruisers.

Itinerary: The four-day Bermuda sailing from New York makes for an easy and affordable long weekend escape. Unlike the other itineraries listed above, this one doesn’t include an overnight in port; rather, it docks in Bermuda from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., making it ideal for those who are tighter on time. Best Time for a Bermuda Cruise

There is no wrong time to visit Bermuda. Thanks to its position in the Gulf Stream, the tiny nation has relatively temperate weather. It doesn't get too hot like some other tropical destinations. There is no real winter or rainy season.

Still, depending on your budget and style of travel, certain times of the year might be better for you than others. Here is a guide to Bermuda during different times of the year.

Bermuda’s cruise season starts in April and ends in November. The high season is from June through August.

Bermuda in April and May

In April, temperatures start creeping up into the low to mid-70s, which makes this time very pleasant for beach lounging. It is also a very affordable time to cruise to Bermuda as the high season hasn't quite started yet. Although it is not quite warm enough for swimming in the ocean, there are still plenty of things to do.

This is the time that Bermuda gets the least amount of rain. So, this is a great time for outdoor activities like hiking and golfing. You could enjoy a walking tour around Hamilton and visit sites like Victoria Park or the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity. Or, try a Segway Tour and check out some of the best places around Bermuda like the Clocktower Mall. Take a shopping tour around Hamilton. Bermuda has lots of vivid artwork, unique jewelry, and Bermuda shorts. April and May are also a great time to visit the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. This museum showcases Bermuda's marine life and more.

Bermuda in June, July, and August

By June, the Bermuda islands are heating up. However, the weather is lovely with highs just under 90 degrees. The water temperature is perfect for swimming and other water activities. This is the ideal time to frolic with dolphins. Summer is also the prime time for fishing, Spend a day on the Jolly Roger for a bit of Atlantic Reef Fishing . The reefs also offer incredible snorkeling opportunities. There are many underwater shipwrecks to explore. Several shipwrecks are just 15 feet or so below the surface of the water, which is perfect for snorkeling.

Summer is also festival season in Bermuda. On Wednesday Harbor Nights, the streets in Hamilton come alive with steel drums, dancers, and street vendors. On Sundays, the Royal Naval Dockyard has crafts, music, face painting and more.

Bermuda in September and October  

Autumn is the start of the shoulder season in Bermuda so you can likely find lots of good cruise deals for travel to Bermuda during September and October. By October the weather has cooled down quite a bit, and the humidity is low. It is still warm enough for swimming during this time.

Reports of past sea conditions aren't going to do you much good. As you said, it's highly variable. Might be nice, might not be nice when you sail.

Chances are it might be cold and nasty, or very warm or calm, or just right.

It really varies week to week and sometimes day to day.

I was in the June 9 sailing too. While it was cooler then I would have liked, the sail away party on the pool deck was fine and not raining. First day at sea was beautiful. Sunday morning was rainy but by the afternoon we got to watch the Americas Cup from the bow of the Dawn. Monday, while at Horseshoe Bay Beach it rained. But sun came out later. Tuesday was beautiful. Wednesday at sea day was sunny and hot. Thursday started if chilly but warmed up a bit later in the day. I'd say weather was nice 80% of the time! Wish I was going again tomorrow!

We did Whale bay Monday.

Then the first NCL ferry to St. George Tues.

We loved Alexander Battery for seaglass and snorkeling then Tom Moor's jungle For the Cliff Jump and cave's :cool:

Just got back today and weather/seas unremarkable. Foggy leaving Boston and a little cool the first sea day, but by the time we hit Wash DC latitude it was warm enough for summer clothes and stayed so right up to docking in Boston this morning.

Barb, this Friday's cruise looks showery and cook. Did they do the sail away indoors?

At this time of the year the first night is mild but as soon as the ship gets south of the Gulf Stream the humidity becomes very notable. The last night of the cruise is north of the Gulf Stream and cooler. Unless there is a tropical storm nearby the seas are rather calm. If you happen to sail when there is a very large, strong, hurricane in the open Atlantic you might get a heavy swell, but that is a hit or miss thing.

I have taken this cruise 4 times in peak hurricane season and never had a rough ride.

Bermuda "rain" can be like a kid with a hose; hit and miss all at the same time. The rain is wet and the sun is hot.;)

We sailed 6/30 to 7/7 and Bermuda was exactly that - some parts of the island raining and others perfectly nice weather.

The weather, at sea, both down and back was calm with rain on the Wednesday of our return.

Not on my cruise. Sailing away from Boston was outside, and the same when we left Bermuda.

However many years ago, we sailed away from Boston during a rain storm, and the party was inside. That was on the Majesty.

When we left the ship on Sunday afternoon, it was very rainy. The ship sold plastic ponchos near the exit.

Next time we'll bring our own, or small umbrellas for "just in case."

Bermuda has been a popular cruise destination for years due to its ideal summer climate, stunning Bermuda beaches , and wealth of activities. The island is conveniently located in the North Atlantic Ocean, just 7 hours away from New York City by ship. As a result, you’ll find a wide range of cruise options available that vary in length and price.

So, what is the best time to cruise to Bermuda? Not surprisingly, it depends on what you’re really looking for in your cruise vacation. Keep reading for tips on key scheduling factors.

Bermuda: Quick Climate Overview

Bermuda has a long history as a worldwide beach destination, and it remains one of the best beach destinations outside of the Caribbean. Many argue that its temperate climate makes it even more desirable than similar Caribbean islands.

Compared to the Caribbean, Bermuda is very far north, at the same latitude as the Carolinas in the United States, but it enjoys a subtropical climate due to the warm Gulf Stream that flows toward the islands. Its temperatures dip between December and March, but it never gets below freezing.

The climate makes it comfortable to visit Bermuda year-round, but there are some things you should consider if you’re planning to cruise there.

Cruise Schedules: Bermuda As a Seasonal Destination

Most cruises only sail to Bermuda between April and November as the winter temperatures dip into the mid-fifties, which, for most people, is not suitable for a beach destination, not to mention all the other outdoor activities that get chillier in the winter.

However, this is beginning to change, and more cruises may also offer cruises to Bermuda in the colder months, which also means rates can be found at a steep discount. If you see a cruise to Bermuda in the winter months, check the prices, but remember that you probably won’t be doing a lot of swimming.

April-May: Best Time to Cruise to Bermuda for Exploration and Festivals

April through May is widely considered the best time to visit Bermuda. The weather is low to mid-seventies, making it perfect for exploring the island, golfing, touring, or whatever else you want to do. However, the water temperatures are still in the low fifties, so if you want a beach vacation where you’re swimming and playing, opt for the summer or fall months.

Instead, April and May are best for the opening of the festival season, the holiday of Easter, and several world-famous yacht races that attract the best sailors from the world over. If you time your visit with Easter weekend, you can enjoy Bermuda’s Kite Festival in Horseshoe Bay, where locals and tourists alike fly kites high in the sky. Indeed a sight to behold.

Easter is a huge holiday for the island, and you’ll find plenty to see and do while visiting. Happen to visit during the end of April instead. You’ll be able to see the Bermuda International Invitational Race Week , a highly anticipated yacht race with competitors from all over the world.

May is Bermuda Day , when Bermuda celebrates its history as a colony, and if you visit at the beginning of the month, you can catch the end of Race Week. You may also see warmer temperatures and more rainfall, so pack accordingly and prepare for beach time this month.

Unless you’re visiting during a festival or holiday, you won’t have as many crowds to deal with as during peak season, and the opening of the tourist season can see up to 30% discounts on cabins and onshore accommodations.

Given the fewer crowds, better deals, and all the festivities, April and May are hands down the best months to cruise to Bermuda during the year.

June-August: Peak Season, but the Best Time to Cruise to Bermuda for Beaches

June is the opening of hurricane season, though that’s less of a concern than you might think for Bermuda. The summer season on this island is mainly known for lots of festivals, crowds, high prices, and packed beaches.

June through August is the best time to hit the beach in Bermuda. The weather is in the nineties, the ocean is in the eighties, and it’s a fantastic time to hit the beach and enjoy the balmy weather.

These months are a must if you want your plans to revolve around the beach. However, it’s also peak season for Bermuda, and plenty of other people enjoy the coast and the islands.

Cabins and onshore accommodations are expensive, so book anything ahead of time if you’re planning to visit during this season. Luckily, the festival season is still going strong through these months, with plenty of small street festivals, longer holidays, and boat races to enjoy. 

The Annapolis Bermuda Race, the Newport Bermuda Race, and the Carnival-style Bermuda Heroes Weekend take place in June and make great visits.

If you visit during July, participate in the Bermuda Triple Crown Billfish Championship where the best anglers compete to catch the most impressive of the predatory fish species.

August has a cricket tournament called the Cup Match that takes place during the Non-Mariners Water Raft-Up, where boats of varying sizes and seaworthiness take to the sea to party. Celebrations are always happening this time of year, so you’ll be spoiled with things to do and see.

Ensure you pack a poncho for the occasional shower and that you’re aware of any tropical storms or hurricanes in the region. While nothing will likely happen, it’s good to be prepared in an emergency. The last hurricane that hit the islands was in 2003. They occasionally make landfall every six or seven years.

Thunderstorms are more common, though they fly by fairly quickly, and most rainfall is at night. But you should be packed in case a sudden bout of rain interrupts your tour or activity. Otherwise, pack lightly for hot weather, and break out the swimsuits, Bermuda shorts, and sundresses to get your feel of sunshine while on the islands.

September-November: Shoulder Season, Best Deals

Once summer is gone, so are most of the tourists. The islands begin quieting down mid-September, and most cruise lines run until the end of November, making this the best time to score great deals on cabins and accommodations. While festivals are fewer, there’s still plenty to see and do in Bermuda, like golfing, touring historic sites, and even going to the beach.

The temperature varies between the lower and the upper seventies during the fall, with more rainfall. Still, the ocean is around the same temperature, making swimming pleasant. While Bermuda doesn’t have a traditional rainy season the way Caribbean islands do, it’s good to remember there is more rain in these months and prepare accordingly.

If a few raindrops don’t stand in your way, then you’ll have islands all to yourself. Bermuda is still beautiful this time of year, and it’s the perfect time to get some beach in before winter hits. Beaches, historic sites, tours, accommodations, and cruises are offered at a steep discount.

September has a Sand Sculpture Competition , where you can show off your skills on the beach, and it rounds out the festival season for Bermuda. However, you can still attend noteworthy events, like the City Food Festival in Hamilton in October, where you can enjoy the best Bermudan food on the islands, or the World Rugby Classic in November, a must-see for rugby fans.

Keep in mind it gets colder the further you get in the year, and the last swimming temperatures would be in early October. However, Bermuda is a lot more than just stunning beaches, so there’s sure to be an activity you want to do.

Hurricane Season: Not a Concern

Hurricane season is from June through October, and Bermuda is at an elevated risk of westerlies coming in from the Gulf Stream. However, hurricanes rarely make landfall–only once every six or seven years. Many hotels and cruises offer “Hurricane guarantees,” where if a storm does throw off your plans, they’ll give you complimentary stays and free nights.

Overall, it’s good to be aware of possible hurricanes and tropical thunderstorms, but they shouldn’t be a determining factor when planning to cruise to Bermuda.

Closing Thoughts

The best time to cruise to Bermuda for hot weather and beaches is definitely during the peak season from June to August, but if you’re not concerned about swimming temperatures, you may enjoy visiting in spring for festivals or from September to November for the best deals with still decent weather.

This archipelago of small islands lies in a beautiful turquoise sea and allures visitors with its swaying palm trees, soft beaches and vibrant island culture.

Bermuda is a place where you can go on literally dozens of different outdoor adventures or simply laze your afternoon away on golden sands. You can connect with locals or attend one of the many annual festivals. No wonder that Condé Nast readers have voted Bermuda as the “best island in the Caribbean/Atlantic” no fewer than eighteen times since 1994. The archipelago is also considered to be one of the world’s top destinations for adventure travelers.

It boasts a fascinating history as well.

If you’re a history buff, you’ll find plenty to discover in Bermuda, from museums to historic sites and colonial buildings. The first European explorer to reach the archipelago was the Spanish captain Juan de Bermudez, after whom the islands are named. He did so in 1503. Since its discovery, Bermuda has been under the rule of the English Virginia Company and, later, became a British colony.

Nowadays, it’s still part of the British Commonwealth—it’s the oldest remaining, and the most populous, Overseas Territory of Great Britain. Bermuda’s capital, St. George, is the oldest continuously inhabited English town in the New World.

So, from beaches and adventure to history and culture, Bermuda has plenty to offer. I’m sure you’re pretty intrigued by now, so let’s continue with some useful information. More specifically, let’s take a look at the climate in Bermuda and the best time of the year to cruise to Bermuda.

An Overview of the Bermuda Climate

Even though Bermuda has a more northerly location than most people expect—it lies at the same latitude as the Carolinas in the United States—, it enjoys a most wonderful climate. This is not a Caribbean island, but it gets pretty close. Some would even say that it’s better than the Caribbean.

Warmed by the Gulf Stream, Bermuda is home to more than its fair share of palm trees and subtropical vegetation. Its official climate is “humid subtropical”, bordering a “tropical” climate. While the islands do experience a drop in temperature in the winter months of January, February and early March, there is no record of it ever freezing in Bermuda. The lowest-ever temperature was 43°F, or 6°C.

Summers can get quite hot in Bermuda, but they’re never unbearable. The highest recorded temperature ever was 93°F, or 34°C. Peak summer temperatures typically don’t exceed 86°F, or 30°C. Even if it does happen to get hot in the afternoon, you can simply seek refuge in the sea and wait until the evening sea breeze brings in some welcome cooling.

In other words, the weather is Bermuda is always pleasant, never uncomfortable.

One thing to know, though, is that Bermuda lies in the so-called “hurricane belt”. Its location in the warm Gulf Stream puts it directly in the path of hurricanes in the westerlies. The official hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30. However, because of the archipelago’s tiny size, landfalls are exceptionally rare. Moreover, hurricanes usually have weakened by the time they reach Bermuda. This is simply something to be aware of, nothing to worry about.

In case a hurricane does hit, it’s also pleasant to know that most hotels have “hurricane guarantees”, which includes refunds or complimentary stays in the future.

Besides the occasional hurricane—once every decade or so—Bermuda boasts incredible weather. A constant sea breeze cools things down in summer while a plethora of sunshine keeps everything pleasantly warm during winter. Rainfall is nothing to worry about.

Unlike the Caribbean islands, Bermuda does not have a wet season , which is why many prefer it over the Caribbean. Heavy downpours typically happen in summer, and then often only overnight, lasting only a couple of hours. Sunshine is available in abundance, basically all the time.

It’s this year-round fantastic weather that makes Bermuda such a superb outdoor adventure destination. The winds make for great (wind)surfing while dry and sunny weather allow you to explore as much and as far as your heart desires.

So, What’s the Best Time of the Year to Cruise to Bermuda?

Depending on what you’re after and your budget, there are two periods in the year that are ideal for visiting Bermuda.

The first one, often regarded as the absolute best time of the year to cruise to Bermuda, runs from the beginning of March to late-April. These two spring months are great for budget travelers . As the temperatures climb out of their annual low, you’ll be able to enjoy more than comfortable spring weather. This is a quiet time of the year, though, so prices are low. Additionally, this time of year is when some of the most festive events take place in Bermuda. Particularly Easter is a holiday you don’t want to miss—you’ll see islanders head to Horseshoe Bay to fly their colorful handmade kites.

The second best time of the year to cruise to Bermuda is from May through September. This is by far the warmest period, roughly correlating with the summer season. If you’re looking for a beach vacation, this is when you’ll want to visit Bermuda. However, as this is the absolute high season, prices skyrocket. Some luxury hotel rooms on the islands go for more than $1,000 per night! With demand as high as it is in summer, you need to book your cruise and, if applicable, onshore accommodation far in advance. You should also keep in mind that you won’t be alone. Beaches will be crowded, restaurants filled.

The very best time to cruise to Bermuda is late spring—April and May . This period offers the best of everything. Temperatures, both air and water, are unquestionably comfortable enough for outdoor activities as well as swimming while the prices for rooms and excursions haven’t yet reached their peaks.

Loving BDA so much wish I could cruise there, stay on Island for a few days and return on another cruise ship. The ship still gets my money but so does Bermuda’s economy. Typical cruises aren’t in Bermuda long enough. Thanks.

When is the best time to visit Bermuda?

That’s because Bermuda is all about the beach, and nearly every day of every month from June to September has perfect beach weather. Summer is when you’ll have the most options for beach activities ranging from kayak and paddleboard rentals to snorkeling, scuba diving, and sailing trips. Most tour operators run several tours each day in the summer.

Ideally, you’d opt to visit Bermuda during June or July , rather than August, as it tends to be more humid and occasionally rainier, and most of the island’s hurricanes tend to hit towards the end of summer and early fall.

What’s the weather like in Bermuda during the summer?

In a word, perfect—assuming, of course, that your idea of a perfect day consists of temperatures in the mid-80s with a slight breeze. Of course, the warmest months are July and August, but by June, average daytime temps are in the upper 70s and low 80s. Combine that with blazing sunshine, and it’s the ideal weather for spending a few hours lazing in the sand.

There’s usually not much of a dip in the temperature at night, which is another reason why summer is the best time to visit Bermuda. It’s the best time of year for outdoor dining, as you can stay out until 10 p.m. and not need more than a light sweater, at most.

What is there to do during the summer in Bermuda?

Summer is the best time to visit Bermuda not just because of the weather, but because of the nearly endless activities available. Between hiking, beaches, water sports, cultural experience, and fantastic Bermuda food and dining, you could take several trips to the island and never do or see the same thing twice.

If you’re going on a romantic couple’s vacation or traveling with a group of adult friends, take time to check out Bermuda’s rum scene. Tours take place just after sunset, and once the captain turns on the underwater lights, you’ll get an amazing view of the reef and the creatures that live there, many of which stay hidden during the day.

As you admire the underwater world, the boat crew will share stories about the on-the-water world of yesteryear, including tales of pirates and the island’s history. It’s one of the few ways you can get a scuba-diver’s view of Bermuda without ever getting wet.

Travelers who enjoy being active while on vacation will agree mid-summer is the best time to visit Bermuda since it’s the peak season for watersports like paddleboarding, parasailing, and snorkeling. But if you’re looking for a terrestrial adventure, be sure to check out the Railway Trail, one of the island’s best hikes.

The 18-mile trail runs the length of the island and follows the route of the former tourist train from the 1930s. The rail shut down in the 1940s when cars were introduced to the island, and now, it’s a scenic trail with several access points. You can hike as many or as few sections as you’d like.

What should I pack for a Bermuda vacation?

As with any visit to a tropical island, be sure to pack several swimsuits and beach cover-ups like sarongs, t-shirts, or board shorts. You could spend every day at the beach, but you want to ensure your skin is protected if you’re spending hours in the sun.

For walking around the island during the day, you’ll be fine in shorts and t-shirts. However, the island does tend to be a little more formal than other islands (thanks to that British influence), so try to pack a few elevated beach outfits.

For example, when visiting a restaurant for dinner, men will want to wear polo shirts and slip-on beach shoes, while for women, dining out is a chance to sport a long sundress or linen pants. Espadrille sandals can be an elegant way to dress up your daytime sundress for nighttime wear, and since Bermuda does have some fairly elegant restaurants, feel free to toss a linen suit or a light-colored Panama hat in your bag for a more formal evening out.

Since summer is the best time to go to Bermuda, you won’t need much in the way of clothing to keep you warm, aside from a light pair of pants and a light sweater if a breeze picks up in the evening.

Rain doesn’t usually last very long in Bermuda, but if you’re planning on an activity where you can’t escape the rain (hiking, for example), you’ll want to bring a very lightweight rain jacket and maybe a waterproof backpack. Be sure to pack at least one pair of shoes that can dry quickly, like durable hiking or athletic sandals, for wearing on days when there’s a chance of an afternoon storm. Bring a pair of non-flip-flop footwear in your bag for dinners or a formal tea time.

Otherwise, your usual summer wear should do just fine. You’ll also want to bring sunscreen, and beach accessories like a snorkel and mask or a collapsible beach bag are always smart ideas, too.

Bermuda has excellent shopping from both high-end designer boutiques to stores selling affordable island-made goods, so if you forgot something, you’ll probably be able to buy it in Bermuda without much trouble.

What beaches are best to visit in the summer?

Summer is when Bermuda’s beaches come alive, which is why so many people consider the warm months of June and July to be the best time to go to Bermuda. The island is famous for its pink-sand beaches, though there are beaches for every kind of traveler.

Horseshoe Bay Beach

Horseshoe Bay Beach is Bermuda’s most well-known due to its stunning pink sands, making it a favorite among couples on a Bermuda honeymoon . Multiple small beaches and coves run the length of the shore here, and you can walk between them relatively quickly. If you head east from the Horseshoe Bay Viewpoint, you’ll pass by Butt’s Beach (with amazing snorkeling), followed by Hidden Beach, Jobson’s Cove, then Warwick Long Bay Beach.

Having so many fantastic beaches close to one another helps spread out the crowds, so even though the secret’s out that summer is the best time to visit Bermuda, you won’t feel at all like there are too many people on the island.

Clearwater Beach

In the heat of summer, there’s no more pleasant place for explorers to be than Clearwater Beach, the northern tip of the infamous “Bermuda Triangle.” It’s a bit off the beaten path for most travelers, so it’s never as crowded as the island’s more well-known beaches. The shallow, clear water is ideal for snorkeling in Bermuda .

You can walk from the beach to the Cooper’s Island Nature Reserve, a prime spot for birdwatching and admiring the incredible views of Nonesuch Island and Pear Rock. A few snack shops are available around the beach, but it’s not as developed as some of the beaches closer to Hamilton.

Snorkel Park Beach

Whether you’re traveling with kids you need to keep entertained or just want an easy beach day near the Royal Naval Dockyard , the aptly named Snorkel Park Beach will have you covered. The best time to be here is in the summer when local bands play in the sun outside the tasty Hammerheads Bar & Grill, and you can rent everything from pool floats to jet skis on-site. If you’re up for a little adventure, consider trying a snuba tour or renting an underwater scooter to maximize your snorkeling experience.

Part of the reason summer is the best time to go to Bermuda is because the waves are small and the water is clear, making for ideal swimming conditions. But it also means that the conditions are nearly perfect for scuba diving, and you can sign up for a shallow intro to scuba dive right at Snorkel Park Beach, even if you’ve never dived before.

What else to know about summer in Bermuda

Since summer is the peak time to visit Bermuda, expect the summer months to be busier than the winter. Of course, since Bermuda is quite remote, busy in Bermuda isn’t the same as busy in the Caribbean, so you can still find space for yourself fairly easily. Consider visiting the popular beaches mid-week rather than on the weekends, or going to the beach in the morning and getting out on a kayak or renting snorkel gear in the afternoon if you’re looking for a relaxed experience.

Between pink-sand beaches, amazing shopping, the thriving underwater world, and the fascinating blend of culture on land, there’s so much to do on the island. And since summer is the best time to visit Bermuda, the days are long—you can pack several activities in each day and still have plenty of daylight left for an alfresco dinner in the evening.

Bermuda Cruise Port: Tips, Excursions and Weather

Bermuda cruise ports attract two kinds of visitors: People who cruise there as their only stop and those ships that stop there on their way to the Caribbean.

It’s a popular port of call for ships that embark from ports on the east coast of the United States. Major embarkation ports include New York, Boston, Baltimore and Cape Liberty, NJ. Most of the cruises last either five or seven nights.

This small British territory consists of small islands connected by bridges and causeways. From end to end, the country measures only 22 miles long. Tourists can travel the entire length in about one hour. Traffic is slow.

Visitors will enjoy bright blue skies, pink sand beaches, golf courses, museums and historic sites. It also has plenty of high-end boutiques and dining options.

Bermuda is not a vacation for anyone on a tight budget. Be prepared to spend some cash when going ashore. Dining and shops are pretty pricey.

These islands are more conservative than the others in the Caribbean. Restaurants have dress codes, and visitors can stroll around in bathing suits only on the beaches.

Parents will be happy to know that Bermuda is a great destination for families with many kid-friendly activities. There are many city attractions, and the beaches are clean and safe.

Unlike some Caribbean destinations, there is no need to worry about a language barrier for American, Canadian and British citizens because English is spoken everywhere.

Quick Travel Tips

Destinations / ports of call.

Ports of Call for Bermuda cruises will depend on the itinerary chosen. The most common itinerary is a five- to seven-night package with the only stop being Bermuda.

Ships will dock at King’s Wharf on the northwest tip of the island for two to three nights as we did during our seven-day cruise. Some may also stop at Hamilton in the island’s center or St. George’s at the northeast tip.

King’s Wharf

This wharf is where all the major cruise lines dock. Ships will stop right beside the Royal Naval Dockyard. It is the most popular tourist site of the islands.

King’s Wharf is rich with history and home to the Bermuda Maritime Museum. There is a mall, lighthouse and art center in the vicinity.

Buses, taxis and scooters can takes guests away from the busy area if they prefer some more private spots for relaxation.

Bermuda Cruise Port Map

The capital of Bermuda is Hamilton—with a population of less than 1,000 people—and has a modest number of things to see and do. A small number of smaller cruise ships usually dock right at Front Street where all the action takes place.

Hamilton has many daytime and nighttime activities, and visitors can see the entire town on foot. Public transportation is available for those that don’t want to walk. We walked the entire length of Front Street with occasional stops in less than two hours.

The most popular way of going from King’s Wharf to Hamilton is an inexpensive ferry that makes regular runs.

St. George’s

St. George’s was the first colonized location on Bermuda and is now a World Heritage Site. This charming city of 1,200 people is full of history and beautiful architecture.

Visitors can stroll along cobblestone streets, dine, shop and enjoy the scenery.

Attractions and Shore Excursions

Quite a few attractions and shore excursions are packed around the Royal Navy Dockyard at King’s Wharf.

The National Museum of Bermuda, officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1975, houses some of Bermuda’s most extensive artifact collections. They include rare treasures from the 16th and 17th centuries. Admission prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and free for anyone younger than 16. (Prices are subject to change.)

Commissioner’s House built in 1820 was once home to the Dockyard Commissioner. It is a large Georgian House and the first ever cast iron house in the world. Guests can explore the house and see collections and exhibits of that time period.

At Bermuda Craft Market, guests can stroll through 60+ local art stands in the old cooperage building in the dockyard. It’s a five-minute walk north of King’s Wharf.

View or buy artwork and handicrafts including paintings, jewelry, woodwork and candles.

Shore Excursions

Bermuda has a Dolphin Quest facility at the National Museum of Bermuda, by the Old Royal Navy Dockyard, where visitors can swim with the dolphins. Prices start around $150 and go up from there depending on the program.

Anyone with an interest in the island’s lengthy history can take a four- to five-hour tour of the island. Prices range from $75 on up depending on the length and other factors. Destinations may include St. George, Bermuda Botanical Gardens and the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art.

The 18-hole Turtle Hill Golf Club has an excursion for golfing fans starting at about $125 per person.

Beaches Near the Cruise Port

Snorkel Park is a white sand beach at the west end of Bermuda. It is within the Royal Navy Dockyard complex, and cruisers can walk there from ships that dock at King’s Wharf.

The water is calm and perfect for children to enjoy the ocean. Snorkelers will spy colorful fish and coral reefs under the turquoise waters.

Horseshoe Bay Beach, six miles southwest of the Hamilton cruise port and 10 miles from King’s Wharf, is known as the best beach on the island. It’s also the most popular and often available as a shore excursion from cruise ships.

Black Bay Beach is ideal for swimming and snorkeling in its shallow waters. The waves are calm, but swimmers should be aware of sharp rocks.

The sand is soft and covered with sea glass. There is a concession stand in the area to rent umbrellas, chairs and other beach items.

Shopping / Restaurants

Along with the Bermuda Craft Market by King’s Wharf, there are quite a few other options for die-hard shoppers. Although there is no sales tax in Bermuda, items are not cheap due to import duties.

There are shopping centers in Hamilton City (along Front Street), at Somers Wharf in St. George’s and at the Clocktower Mall by the Royal Naval Dockyard.

Some of the more unique finds in Bermuda are Gombey Rag Dolls, Banana Leaf Dolls, Longtail Jewelry and Rum Cakes.

The Pickled Onion serves authentic Bermudian food along with Asian and Latin menu items. The restaurant offers views of Hamilton Harbor.

Black Horse Tavern has Bermudian and Continental food with a casual atmosphere. It is a place where locals like to dine with reasonable prices.

Somerset Country Squire Pub and Restaurant is a traditional British Pub with average prices and a terrace overlooking Mangrove Bay.

Polaris at Carriage House has water views and Bermudian cuisine including seafood and sushi. Local fish and lobster caught fresh are on the daily menu.

Getting Around

Passengers who disembark from ships at King’s Wharf will need transportation to get to Hamilton, which is 15 miles away.

Shore excursion buses are common and often include visits to both Hamilton and St. George’s. These excursions may cost $100 per person or more.

Otherwise, taxis have metered rates set by the government. Exact change is required.

The rate for a one- to four-passenger taxi is $7.90 US for the first mile and $2.75 US for each extra mile. The rate for a five- to seven-passenger taxi is $9.95 US for the first mile and $3.50 US for each extra mile.

The expense of getting from King’s Wharf to Hamilton by taxi and back may make an excursion bus that also goes to St. George a better option. For getting from King’s Whart to Hamilton, it also is cheaper and faster to take the ferry.

The island has a convenient public bus system with 11 routes and 14 zones. Most buses leave from the Central Terminal on Washington Street by City Hall in Hamilton.

Bermuda has an active ferry system for travel around the island. Ferries leave from the Ferry Terminal on Front Street in Hamilton and also from King’s Wharf.

When to Go/ Weather

Bermuda has sub-tropical weather with high humidity and warm temperatures. Average high temperatures from December through March hover in the 60s Fahrenheit.

April through November are warmer months with average highs in the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit.

Bermuda does not have a monsoon or rainy season. There is no fixed pattern for rainfall, but October is historically the wettest month with an average of six inches of rain.

April historically is the driest month with three inches of rain.

The best time to visit Bermuda is from April to September. The temperatures are warmer, along with the water.

The majority of tourist attractions are open during this time. Those who prefer to go when there are fewer people should visit during the winter months. The winter is popular with golfers.

Port Canaveral ordered to temporarily close due to winds from Helene

The U.S. Coast Guard ordered Port Canaveral to temporarily close, effective just after midnight Thursday, because of the anticipated high winds from Hurricane Helene.

The closing likely will affect the schedules of at least five Port Canaveral-based cruise ships that were due to return to port from cruises on Thursday and Friday.

The storm is expected to be a major hurricane by time it makes landfall Thursday evening, likely in the Florida Panhandle/Big Bend region, with sustained winds of up to 130 mph, which would make it a Category 4 hurricane. The Space Coast could experience tropical-storm-force winds of at least 39 mph from Helene, which has a large wind field.

Cruise ships to be affected

Already, the scheduled Thursday morning arrival at Port Canaveral of the  MSC Seashore  at the end of its cruise has been pushed back to Friday, meaning the ship's next cruise departure will be delayed by at least a day.

Also affected likely will be four cruise ships scheduled to arrive at Port Canaveral to complete their cruises on Friday morning and to depart on their next cruises Friday afternoon. The ships are Carnival's Glory, Disney's Wish, and Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas.

There is a potential for Saturday arrival and departure times to be affected as well. Cruise ships due at Port Canaveral on Saturday are Carnival's Freedom and Mardi Gras, as well as Disney's Fantasy.

The port advises cruise passengers planning to sail from Port Canaveral on Friday or Saturday to contact their cruise lines to confirm their embarkation time and ship’s departure time.

With the closing of the port, there will need to be an inspection after the storm passed to check the port's channel for shoaling and debris caused by the high winds and the rough waves.

Port Canaveral CEO John Murray said there are no plans to evacuate smaller ships from the port's marinas, and restaurants and other landside operations at the port will be allowed to continue operating.

"This is not going to be a surge event," Murray told port commissioners at their monthly meeting on Wednesday. "For us, it's going to be a wind event."

The National Hurricane Center predicts a 31% chance of tropical-storm-force winds of at least 39 mph being experienced in Cocoa Beach from the storm, most likely on Thursday.

Port Canaveral has set up a special status hotline at 321-394-3411 for general updates about the port's status.

Royal Caribbean cancels upcoming voyage for world's largest cruise ship

Royal Caribbean canceled an upcoming voyage for “Icon of the Seas,” the world’s largest cruise ship.

The ship, which was initially supposed to set sail Sept. 28, 2024, had to be docked due to “unplanned maintenance,” according to the cruise liner.

“We are currently conducting unplanned maintenance onboard Icon of the Seas,” Royal Caribbean disclosed in an email to travel agents . “We understand the disappointment this news may bring and we’re truly sorry for the impact to your vacation plans.”

The cruise liner is offering guests who were supposed to sail on that date a 100% refund, including food and beverage packages, according to WPLG.

Guests who also booked flight packages through Royal Caribbean to go along with the sailing will receive a refund as well.

Royal Caribbean will also provide $200 per guest for guests who planned to travel domestically and $400 per guest for guests with international travel plans for all customers who booked flights independently.

The ship is expected to stay docked in Miami to undergo repairs.

Coast Guard helicopter evacuates sick 8-year-old from cruise ship near Eureka

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. — A Coast Guard helicopter aircrew medically evacuated an 8-year-old off a cruise ship about 20 miles west off the coast of Eureka Tuesday morning.

The Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay says they received notification around 7 a.m. on Sept. 24, 2024, from Sector Columbia River relaying a message from the Royal Princess cruise ship, stating that an 8-year-old boy. a passenger onboard, was diagnosed with appendicitis and needed to be taken by helicopter to the hospital.

Sector Humboldt Bay watchstanders coordinated the launch of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew around 8 a.m.

Officials say the aircrew arrived on scene, hoisted the passenger and his family into the helicopter, and transferred him to emergency medical services at Saint Joseph Hospital in Eureka by 9:40 a.m.
