Will report back. For clarity, normal cruise control is called 'Active' and that sounds like what you are being advised (two mem buttons on the stalk). The 'Adaptive' cruise control will have a 'gap' button instead of the top 'mem' button that you push to control the distance (near/normal/far) to the car infront.

Ik lees wat wisselende berichten over de minimale afstand die met de adaptive cruise control wordt aangehouden, deze kan wat groot zijn en dan zou ik het adapatieve deel uit willen kunnen zetten.

I don't know if it's a by product of the adaptive systems, but I find the cruise control one of the best in any car, especially in keeping you under the limit going down long descents.
