An exclusive adventure in Historic Lewiston, Idaho

Welcome to Lewiston, Idaho! Our little town is nestled in the heart of the beautiful Lewis-Clark Valley, where the Snake and Clearwater rivers come together. We are surrounded by mountains and wildlife, and the locals are some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet! Our town has a rich history and culture, dating back to the early days of the American frontier. We are proud of our heritage and love to share it with our visitors. So come on down and enjoy the sights and sounds of Lewiston, Idaho!

Frequently asked questions

I’ve never been wine tasting before. am i going to feel foolish.

Heaven’s no! We’re excited you’re going to be joining us for your first trip. In fact, many people going on the tour have never done a wine tasting, so you’re with friends! An educational component will be provided at the first stop when that is the case (just let your guide know!).

How many people can you accommodate?

A minimum of four is required for the tour to go. However, the maximum amount varies. Six or seven seems to be a magical number. However, for larger groups, I contract with the Wheatland Express.

Also, you may charter the entire van if you choose, regardless if it does not meet the minimum amount.

What should I wear?

This is an easy question: whatever you want! In the summer shorts and skirts/dresses is the norm. In the winter, sweaters and sweatshirts, are prevalent. Jeans are always okay. Some people wear khakis. Every once in a great while you’ll see people in a suit and ties. The bottom line is to dress how you feel comfortable, and you will not feel out of place. However, comfortable shoes are strongly recommended. High heels are strongly discouraged, as we will be often standing and walking, and perhaps frolicking in the vineyard!

What about gratuity?

For the guide, it is completely at your discretion. If you are pleased with the service and effort put forth by your guide, you are most welcome to offer him or her a gratuity. Your thoughtfulness will be greatly appreciated.

If you have a large party, and there is a driver AND a guide, we have already given the driver a gratuity.

If you have chosen to go to Ampersand, gratuity and taxes are already included.

Can I be picked up from a different location?

No problem! Pickup is free from any Lewiston Happy Day restaurant. Pickup is also free from any of our other high-quality hotel partners in Lewiston, which include the Hampton Inn & Suites and the Holiday Inn Express. The Quality Inn & Convention Center will transport guests staying with them for free to a pickup location in Lewiston.

Pickup and return from (and back to) your Lewiston residence, or a non-partner hotel, is a popular option. $10 per residence/hotel, plus $5 per person. If you reside or are staying in Moscow, it is $20 per residence/hotel, plus $5 per person.

If you are not in one of these locations, please just ask for a quote.

What type of vehicle do you use?

A 2017 Ford Transit van, with 11 passenger bucket seats. It is kept impeccably maintained.

Will you accommodate vegetarians, vegans, gluten sensitivities, and other diet restrictions?

Yes, without additional charge! Just let us know, in advance, so we can custom craft to your needs. Usually, there are a small number of gluten-free snacks that are included in every tour, just in case, someone has forgotten to mention that they have gluten sensitivities.

If we drive in to the designated rally point to meet the tour, won’t we be too intoxicated to drive?

We strongly encourage our guests to enjoy the Lewis Clark Valley and enjoy the amazing restaurants we have to offer. Take your time, enjoy a meal, and savor this time away from stress. In fact, why don’t you stay at our Preferred Partner, the Red Lion Hotel? We can get you a discount, and there are no worries that way. Mention that you are with Twisted Vine Wine Tours, and they will apply the discount, or contact us for more information. Or, there are our partners at the Quality Inn and Convention Center, the Best Western, the Hampton Inn, or the Holiday Inn Express, who have excellent rooms and great staff to take care of your needs during your stay.

Who else might be on the tour?

If you would like a private, chartered tours: none. When the tour is chartered, it is considered to be an exclusive and private tour, and you have paid for all 7 seats on the van, regardless of the number of people. The only people who may go are those who you invite (an interpreter may be included by Twisted Vine Wine Tours, LLC, if needed and as arranged with the Responsible Party, at an additional fee.) However, if you are not on a private charter, that is a part of the fun, to meet new and interesting people while enjoying the Lewis Clark valley’s history and culture.

I really like getting drunk, and having my friends get drunk. This sounds like the place for me!

Yikes! So happy you know how to have a good time, but this tour isn’t for you. We will be more than happy to refer you to one of the limousine or taxi cab companies in the area. Most of our clientele are locals who are looking for a stress-free way to explore their own community, ex-pats who are returning to visit family, those traveling on business who crave something off the beaten path, or tourists who are intrigued by our history.

One of my friends who is going with is always late. Can we start the tour when he shows up?

With 24-hour notice, we can push your tour out to a specific time (depending on venue availability, and if no other tours have been booked for that day). With less than 24 hour notice, the tour guide will arrive promptly, and the clock will start. However, the tour will not board the van until the Responsible Party states that it is time to board. In the case of a late start, the guide will talk to the Responsible Party and ascertain her/his preferences. Additional time above the tour window will be billed at $70/hr. If it is a mixed tour and not just one group, the tour will leave no later than 10 minutes after the scheduled departure time.

Can you go into Washington?

No. Due to licensing requirements, we are unable to cross the border.

I might have to cancel. Are there refunds?

If a total of four people do not sign up, a full refund will be issued. However, after the tour is confirmed with a minimum of four people, there are no refunds. It is not fair to the other three people on the tour to cancel, and the tour will continue as planned.

For the remainder of the tours, that time was booked just for you, and there will be no refunds. If you inform us 72 hours prior to your reservation, we will be happy to reschedule your trip within one year of the original booked date, if space is available. Unfortunately, if the cancellation is less than 72 hours, we will be unable to reschedule your trip, and your tour cost will be forfeited.

Winery Seekers Wine Tours is known for:

Personalized Customer Service

Education, Background, and History of the Wineries

Fun with a Capital “F”

Our mission is to “Treat customers Special the way we like to be treated.”

I come from a Petro-Chemical Background in my career. However, my husband and I have always been interested in wine.  We have visited many wine regions over the years.  My husband had retired and as we are outdoor people, this was the perfect state to move to.

We moved to Idaho and there was no petro-chem work in this state.  I went to work for “Ste. Chapelle Winery” as a tour guide where I worked for five (5) years and learned all about the industry first-hand.   During this time, we discovered there were no winery tour companies. Customers started asking about tours and the seed was planted.

Having lived in Germany near the Mosel Wine Valley, I developed a wine interest early on.  In 2009 we started the first tour company in Idaho, while still working at Ste. Chapelle.  It’s all about the enjoyment of wine, food paring and so much more.  It is a life-learning process!

After starting our company and leaving Ste. Chapelle Winery, I also worked as a Sales Representative for “Terre Nativa Winery” for seven (7) years.  Again, I learned yet another area of the wine industry.

I have served two terms of two years each on the “Treasure Valley Wine Society” Board.  The board has food and wine pairing dinners once a month on local wines and wines from around the world.

For us, it’s all about the experience and the end product.

Best Idaho Wineries And What You Need To Know About The Sunnyslope Wine Trail

Sharing is caring!

Aside from providing some of the best outdoorsy vacations, one of the most unknown facts about traveling around Idaho is discovering the best wineries in Idaho. My favorite Idaho wine expert and travel blogger Phylicia Stitzel has spent years immersed in the Idaho wine industry, including running wine tours along the Sunnyslope Wine Trail. Today she’s telling us all about the best Idaho wineries and how the vineyards in Idaho are growing in numbers quickly!

Best Idaho Wineries and What You Need To Know About The Sunnyslope Wine Trail

Regarding wine tasting in the United States, many enthusiasts might immediately think of regions like Napa Valley or Sonoma. However, tucked away in the picturesque landscape of the Gem State lies a hidden treasure trove for wine lovers – Idaho. With its flourishing wine culture and breathtaking scenery, Idaho wine country, particularly the wineries along the Sunnyslope Wine Trail, is gaining recognition as some of the best in the country.

The vines were planted in Idaho in 1864, almost one hundred years after the first vines were planted in California by the Franciscan Missionaries at Mission San Diego de Alcalá in 1769. However, after Prohibition in the 1920s, it took until 1970 for wine grapes to be planted in Idaho again, and the wine industry started to make a comeback. This was because the farmers who had the fields ripe with grapes now had turned their fields for a “safer” crop: potatoes.

Idaho Road Trip along the Salmon River

Now, you will find most of the Idaho vineyards planted along the Snake River Valley in the Southern part of Idaho. The Snake River Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area) was approved in April of 2007. The Southwestern region of Idaho currently has the highest density of vineyards and wineries in the state, covering over 8,000 square miles!

In this article, we’ll take you on a journey through the best Idaho wineries, exploring what makes them exceptional and shedding light on the Sunnyslope Idaho Wine Trail.

THIS ARTICLE MAY CONTAIN COMPENSATED LINKS. PLEASE READ OUR DISCLAIMER FOR MORE INFO. THIS POST WAS WRITTEN BY JILL GREISING-MURSCHEL , A LOCAL IDAHO MOM AND TRAVEL BLOGGER.

Idaho Wine Country

Idaho might not be the first place that comes to mind when considering wine regions, but it’s quickly gaining recognition for its unique wine culture. The state’s varied climate and volcanic soils create an ideal environment for growing grape varieties. Whether you’re a fan of reds, whites, or rosés, Idaho’s wineries have something special for every palate.

What makes Idaho so unique for growing grapes? Location, location, location!

The latitude of the Snake River Valley AVA is along the same latitude line as some of the most significant wine regions in the world! Places like Bordeaux, France, and Tuscany, Italy.

With latitude, wonderfully rich soil, elevation, and healthy seasons ensure that the vines can go through an entire growth cycle every year – which in turn greatly impacts the vineyards in Idaho and the wines they produce.

Sunnyslope Wine Trail

Nestled within the breathtaking Snake River Valley, the Sunnyslope Wine Trail is a journey that promises unforgettable experiences. You will find Idaho’s oldest wineries and vines in the Sunnyslope wineries.

Wineries in Idaho

Along the Sunnyslope Wine Trail, you will find 17 of Idaho’s award-winning wineries, each with a unique story and wines to offer. From Chardonnay aged in a Whiskey barrel at Fujishin Family Cellars, to a full gourmet tasting menu served at Parma Ridge Winery & Bistro. One of the most romantic things to do in Idaho is to go on a wine tour along Sunnyslope Wine Trial.

As you meander through this trail, you’ll be captivated by the stunning views of vineyards against the backdrop of rolling hills. The trail offers a chance to explore multiple wineries; whether you make a reservation or stop by – you won’t be disappointed!

One of the fun things to do in Idaho in the summer is to go on a wine tour. However, if you visit the Snake River Valley Wineries in the summertime, the best practice is to make a reservation early. The tasting rooms can get very busy, and the tasting room managers and attendants take great pride in giving their patrons the best possible experience.

You can make a reservation online or by calling the wineries to schedule an appointment. Another option is to book a wine tour! Take the hassle out of booking and driving and enjoy the Sunnyslope wineries in style!

Best Idaho Wineries

When looking for the best Idaho wines and selecting the best wineries in Idaho, it is hard to choose just a few, but here we go (in no particular order)!

Holesinsky Vineyard and Winery

Rated as the number one winery in Idaho in 2022, this family-owned and operated winery has the best Peach Sangria in Idaho! Even if you can’t make it to their tasting room, tucked away in Buhl, Idaho, you can find their wines all over the state. Worth picking up a bottle (or twelve!)

Hells Canyon Winery & Zhoo Zhoo Wines

One of the oldest family-owned and operated wineries along the Sunnyslope Wine Trail, Hells Canyon Winery and Zhoo Zhoo Wines is a dual operation. Steven Robertson set the tone with Hells Canyon Winery, and then his daughters chose to carry on the family wine operation and created a second “sister” label at the winery. Absolutely worth tasting both labels!

Absolutely amazing experience! The Boise True Crime 1970s Motorhome Tour was an unforgettable trip back in time! The vintage motorhome set the perfect atmosphere, and the stories of notorious crime cases were thrilling and incredibly detailed. The guide was engaging, knowledgeable, and brought the past to life in a way that kept us hooked the entire time. The mix of history, humor, mystery, and a touch of the eerie made for such a unique adventure. If you're looking for something fun, informative, and a bit spooky--this tour is a must-do in Boise! Highly recommend!

Highly recommend the Macabre History Tour of Boise! The guide was hilarious, super knowledgeable, and really brought Boise's darker past to life. Walking through the old streets and hearing all the creepy, historical stories was fascinating. It was a great mix of local history and eerie legends that kept me hooked the whole time. Definitely something unique and worth checking out if you're into true crime or just want to see Boise from a different perspective.
