We included this stroller bassinet on our list because it’s a newborn essential that many parents are already packing for travel day without realizing that it doubles as an overnight sleep solution. This bassinet is compatible with UPPAbaby’s popular Vista , Minu , Cruz , and Ridge strollers. For parents who would rather not place it on the floor inside, the brand sells a chic bassinet stand that doubles as a hamper.

Though not as compact as some others on our list, this bassinet collapses for travel and comes in 10 modern color choices. It boasts an extendable, UPF-50 sun shade, a breathable mattress pad with a vented base, and a bug shield. Although the mattress cover is machine-washable, the canopy and sidewalls are not. 

Lightest weight: Munchkin Brica Travel Pod

Although it comes with a high price tag, the Nuna has all the bells and whistles. It comes with an organic cotton sheet, an insect net, a bassinet attachment, a durable travel bag, and a vented mattress that pulls heat and humidity away from tiny sleepers. This bed opens in seconds and folds down with one hand, even with the bassinet attached. Although the mattress cover is machine washable, the Nuna’s other fabrics are not.

Phil & Ted’s Traveller Full-Size Travel Crib

Why shelly recommends it:.

It only weighs 7 lbs.–compare that with other play yards! Add to that its terrific versatility and its hard to find a better travel bed. Use it from birth on up through three years (or more), indoors and out. Breathable mesh panels let you take this to the park and beach just as easily as Grandma’s house (where rubber feet will protect her floors).

The self-inflating air mattress works much like a Therm-a-Rest (or backpacker’s mattress), providing good insulation from the cold ground as well as padding from hard floors. An optional UV-protective cover fits over the top to offer protection outdoors (though you’ll have to throw a beach towel or something over the sides for sun protection now that they are 100% mesh (please let me know when you’ve finished thinking that one through, Phil&Ted).

The Traveler also has a zipping side panel to allow in and out access for playtime on the beach, and for older children who are ready to come and go on their own from their own travel bed. BabyBjorn Travel Crib Light

At 11 lbs. the Travel Crib Light weighs a little more than Phil & Ted’s full-size travel crib, costs around $100 more, and you probably won’t be able to use it as long (it also doesn’t offer the unzipped side self-access for older children).

That said, the easy to assemble BabyBjorn Travel Crib Light is worth it to some parents for the 1-minute (or less) set-up time, space savings when folded and set-up, and eco-certified softer fabrics–every bit of which can be gently washed in the machine.

In theory, the BabyBjorn Travel Light can be used for newborns up to around 3 years old (older children may be happier with the longer mattress of the Phil & Ted or Peapod Plus, both of which they can freely come and go from when they’re ready). The Peapod Baby Bed for Travel

Helps create your “tent within a tent” safely on cold camping trips, and gives a clean, safe place for baby to snooze bug-free, whether indoors or out. Folds into its own carrying case at 16.5″ diameter and 3″ thick, then pops up when needed to 46″L x 28″W x 18″H.

The Peapod Plus weighs less than 3 lbs. Although this is recommended for  1 to 3 years, you may prefer the slightly larger Peapod Plus, which can be used on through the preschool years (see below).  Find it online at:   Amazon.com

The Peapod Plus Travel Bed

The Peapod Plus can be used from infancy well through preschool, and includes a lightweight sleeping bag. In addition to the UV mesh found in the smaller Peapod, the Plus also has roll-down nylon sides for added wind protection.

Other differences: The poles used in the Plus are thinner and more lightweight than the very heavy-duty ones used in the original above, keeping its weight down, but at the cost of some stability (if you have rowdy rompers in the house, you may prefer the original Peapod). Travels at 19″ diameter and 6.5″ thick in its carrying case. Unfolds to 52.5″ x 34″ x 25″.

Fold ‘n Go Infant Travel Bassinet

This portable folding infant bassinet sets up in 10 seconds (okay it took us 20 the first time, but…) and features a rigid steel frame with four-point Safe-T-Lock System , providing a sturdier alternative to some baby travel beds with soft sides. Mesh side panels also allow for better air circulation.

The Brica Fold N Go bassinet folds to 22″ at its widest point x 16″ x 2″ thick and weighs less than 3 lbs. Unfolds to 30.5″L x 22″W x 10″H with an included 29″ x 18″ foam mattress with cover. The Snuggle Nest by Baby Delight Folding Infant Travel Bed

The very popular Snuggle Nest has been improved with new safety features, including ventilation through breathable sidewalls and an optional 1.5″ incline wedge to help elevate baby’s head–very helpful should a little nose get stuffy during your travels.

This model of Snuggle Nest plays soft music or womb-like sounds and includes a convenient night light you’ll be glad to have when checking on baby in an unfamiliar hotel room. Cover can be removed and washed.

What I don’t like about this newer model is that the wrap-around bumper means it won’t last as longer for taller/longer babies, and the new “vented” side walls actually look less breathable than the earlier mesh used.

First Years Close and Secure Folding Infant Travel Co-Sleeper

Baby travel beds with a built-in, battery-powered night light are few and far between. This co-sleeper also adds an extra measure of protection, buffering your baby from head to toe, making it a suitable sleeping spot for infants both in the “family bed” and out.

As mentioned, it features a built-in night light, which can be helpful for late-night checks, especially when staying in new and unfamiliar places. Machine washable cover and sheet included. Summer Infant Travel Bed with Toy Bar and Shoulder Strap

Great for the airport and possibly even on the airplane. It starts out folded into a travel bag with a shoulder strap and bottle pockets on each end. Then, when you need a clean, safe spot for baby to stretch out while you await your flight, just unfold this portable baby bed and the toy bar is already in place.

What’s that? There’s NOT a changing table in the lavatory on your flight? No problem. This will give you a clean, workable surface with no-roll sidewalls to use either on the airplane seat, floor, or–if the toilet design suits–in the lavatory over the closed lid. Oh, right! The Shrunks Inflatable Portable Bed for Toddlers and Preschoolers

Great solution for occasional visits to Grandma’s house, car trips, and camping (but at 6 lbs. and still bulky when deflated, you probably don’t want to pack this portable bed on the plane).

The air mattress insert is the same size as a standard crib mattress, and you can use it with your own crib/toddler bed sheet sets. (If your child is already pushing the limits of the toddler bed, take a look at the kid-size inflatable travel bed that fits a twin-size sheet .)

Make the most of extra beds where you find them by easily adding these portable bed safety bumpers to hotel beds, guest beds, cruise ship berths, and then some.

Toddler travel beds provide consistency and a protected sleep space, resulting in a well-rested child and a smoother trip for everyone. To help you shop for the best suited to your kid and your travel plans, we've tested dozens of travel beds , mattresses, and pack-and-plays in our lab and at home with our kids. For some parents, portable beds are must-haves to provide young children with a secure place to sleep while on vacation. “Simpler is always better, especially when thinking of traveling with toddlers . So, when it comes to a toddler travel bed, you don't need all the bells and whistles,” says Anjuli Gans , M.D., a pediatrician at the Karabots Pediatric Care Center in West Philadelphia. “There are a lot of fancy ones out there on the market, but your baby really just needs a safe and comfortable place to sleep ." 

We spent hours testing these products in the lab and our homes by assembling and disassembling them—even seeing if we could do it one-handed—and timing the whole process. We also studied the beds' features, how well they hold a toddler's weight, and how easy they are to clean. The Eltow Inflatable Toddler Bed is portable and easy to set up, and it comes at a lower price than our top pick, the Stokke. Unlike other inflatables, the Eltow toddler travel bed consists of an outer section with bumpers on two sides and a mattress that fits snugly inside the outer shell . It's not sitting directly on the floor but is at floor level.

We love that it took us just five minutes to set up and is  lightweight and portable . It comes with a high-speed pump, two patches in case of punctures, and a travel bag for storage. And thanks to a vinyl layer that protects against punctures, it's well-equipped to withstand wear and tear. Plus, it comes with a bag, so it's super portable. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with a sheet, so you'll have to pack one in your luggage. 

One flaw is that the mattress has a plastic smell that sticks around for a few hours once the mattress is removed from its packaging. (It should go away if you allow the product to air out for a day or two before use.) Assembly is straightforward, but removing the pump nozzle without losing air can be difficult when done alone, so we recommend getting a partner to help you out.

This nearly puncture-proof  toddler travel bed can be used during trips or at home as a transitional bed for toddlers who are still getting used to not having crib walls. A 120-volt electric pump (and three universal nozzles) is a game changer and makes inflating the bed a breeze. We love how quickly and easily this bed can be put together: It took us five minutes to blow up both parts of the bed and attach a fitted sheet. Best of all, we didn’t even need to glance at the instructions while doing so.

In case you worry about your toddler rolling off the mattress, the EnerPlex Kids Inflatable Travel Bed has bumpers along three sides. The removable coil-beam mattress rests snugly inside the outer shell and fits a standard crib sheet. Even though the bed is bulky, it comes with a large carry bag that you can wear as a backpack, freeing your hands for luggage or a kid. We also like that the  electric pump comes with an adapter for your car , making it ideal for camping. It can be wiped down and the crib sheet can be tossed in the laundry for cleanup.

In terms of ease of use, this travel bed only took us five minutes to set up and didn't require too much prep work to understand how to put it together. The setup process isn't as straightforward as other travel beds we tested, but it's not difficult.

An access door makes it easier to get to your little one without leaning over the side. You can use the entrance to lay them on the  padded, waterproof mattress  inside the mesh enclosure or to let them go in and out of the crib when they are awake. You can unzip the bed cover and throw it into the washer for a deep clean.

It is a tad heavy to carry for long periods of time. Also the mattress is easy enough to wipe, but the fabric around the top of the crib is so absorbent that it's tough to give it a good cleaning.

A  built-in pump  makes for easy assembly, since you just turn the panel to either inflate or deflate, and you’re done! When it needs a cleaning, just wipe down as needed. It also has a  built-in pillow rest , so you won’t have to pack an extra pillow for your kid when you travel.

The mattress comes with a duffel bag for storage and travel, but it's not the most compact, and the bag isn't as comfortable as others we tested.

To find the best toddler travel beds, we tested 20 travel beds and more than 20 pack-and-plays in the Parents Testing Lab, in our own homes, and on the road. We first tried to assemble the travel beds—with one hand, if possible. After that, we noted whether we needed to use both hands or had to get another adult to help. We also timed just how long the setup took for each bed. We then tested how well the toddler travel beds hold a toddler's weight using a 25-to-30-pound sandbag.

Next, we looked at how hard it would be to clean messes on the beds, examining hard-to-reach areas and taking note of the material and what it felt like to wipe it. We tested whether we could use a standard crib sheet as well, and then we tried to disassemble the beds one-handed. After breaking them down, we considered how long it took us and how difficult it was to place the beds inside their carry bags, if bags were included. Finally, we lifted the carrying bags to assess the beds’ portability. 

In addition to lab and real-world testing, we spoke with medical experts to gather their input on how to choose a toddler travel bed. We spoke to the following experts:

Factors to Consider in a Toddler Travel Bed

• Comfort:  As you’ve probably realized when getting a kid to sleep at home, comfort is key. Comfort for some toddlers may mean a favorite blanket, while others require a crib. Parents should consider various must-haves to make traveling easier and smoother when trekking across the country—or a few hours away—with your little one.
• Safety:  Dr. Gans recommends researching products on the  Consumer Product Safety Commission  (CPSC) website to determine their safety and ensure that they haven't been recalled. When purchasing a crib or bassinet, parents of babies should also practice the same  safe sleeping rules  they implement at home. "Every toddler travel bed has age and weight requirements, so I would definitely check those first and make sure it matches up [with your toddler's age and weight]," she explains. Then, stick to simple beds without all the added features. "The less they have, the better.” Once you've narrowed down your selection to simple beds, make sure there are no bumpers or parts that can potentially trap your child, and check corner points and sharp corners. "Corner points are sometimes a place where kids can get clothing caught or get injured, so make sure it doesn't have sharp corners," explains Dr. Gans. "And remember that pillows and blankets are still [only] recommended for toddlers age 2 and over."
• Ease of Use:  If you need a toddler travel bed that is easy to carry, quick to assemble, and doesn't require much work, then ease of use and portability must be considered when selecting a toddler travel bed. Some toddler travel beds can be assembled using one hand and only take minutes to assemble. That is very helpful if you arrive at a destination with a  sleeping or cranky tot . You may want to look for bags that allow hands-free carrying. Another consideration is whether the bed is easy to put in those bags so you don’t find yourself fighting to pack it back in when it’s time to go home. If you are in a situation where you don't have a toddler travel bed, don't worry. "If you are staying somewhere, and they allow you to request a crib, you can pull out the mattress and just lay it on the floor," Dr. Gans adds. "If it's in a safe place for your toddler, then it is perfectly fine. Make sure it is somewhere they can have adult supervision at all times and within eye view, because you may not be able to safety-proof rooms the way you can at home."

How can I keep my toddler in bed while traveling?

A pack-and-play or travel bed with inflatable bumpers (which are  not  recommended for babies, of course!) can help keep a toddler from rolling onto the floor. If your child is still sleeping in a crib at home, you will probably want to keep them in a pack-and-play or travel crib while traveling. You can also bring along some of their favorite items from home to help them want to stay in bed in a strange new place.

"The best thing to do when traveling is to bring along items from the child's home bedroom," recommends Dr. Schneeberg. "Parents can bring along the child's favorite pillow, 'bedtime buddy,' and favorite books, for example. If the child is used to a certain night-light or a  sound machine , these can be brought along as well."

Can my 2-year-old sleep in a travel cot?

Certain travel cots are appropriate for 2-year-olds, but young 2-year-olds who haven't yet  transitioned to a toddler bed  may be more comfortable and safer in more crib-like pack-and-plays or travel beds with safety rails.

Can I put my 3-year-old in a toddler cot?

Unless a manufacturer suggests otherwise (usually based on a child's weight or height), most toddler travel cots are appropriate for 3-year-olds who have already transitioned from a crib to a bed.

How much is a toddler travel bed?

A high-quality travel toddler bed will generally cost between $60 and $100, although some can be cheaper, and certain models can cost upwards of $200. Pricier travel beds often come with more accessories and features, although not every family will need extra bells and whistles.

• The US and Canada intercepted Russian and Chinese military aircraft flying in international airspace near Alaska, the North American Aerospace Defence Command reported. Russia's defence ministry said the bombers were carrying out joint air patrols.
• Meanwhile, after two more nights of Russian attacks on Ukraine, Romania's defence ministry said it found fragments of a Russian attack drone in a rural village near the Danube river and the country's border with Ukraine this morning. A NATO spokesperson said there was no evidence that its territory was intentionally targeted;
• Russia said senior US and Russian officials have been holding unofficial diplomatic talks on Ukraine , with the Kremlin later claiming it was open to negotiations with Kyiv about ending the conflict on the condition it was given more details about Ukraine's preparedness for such discussions.

Ukrainian professional boxer Oleksandr Usyk says he has cried about the war in his country behind closed doors.

Usyk, the first undisputed heavyweight champion in almost 25 years, said it was "hard" to see the recent Russian attack on Okhmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv.

"Yes [I cry], because it's children, it's not soldiers, it's not a big person. They are 10 years, six, 15 - it's only the start of life. But for these people it's the last. It's hard for me," he said, in an interview with Sky News.

Usyk was speaking at the departure of 50 vehicles from London to Kyiv as part of the ULEZ scrappage scheme. The vehicles will be used to support humanitarian and medical needs in Ukraine.

A Moscow court has ordered the arrest of one of its senior defence ministry staff on suspicion of abuse of power, according to Russian state news agencies.

Andrei Belkov, who heads the ministry's military construction company, is the latest in a string of high-ranking ministry officials to be detained this year.

The company builds bases, hospitals, schools and other facilities for the military, according to its website.

Mr Belkov's boss, former Russian deputy defence minister Timur Ivanov, was also arrested in April on suspicion of taking bribes.

Russia won't be able to keep up its offensive attacks in the long term because its "capabilities are not limitless", a Ukrainian commander has said.

Oleksandr Pivnenko, commander of Ukraine's National Guard, said he believes Russian forces "will not be able to conduct active assaults in many directions" after the next several weeks and will move to being "on the defensive".

"The enemy's offensive capabilities are not limitless, considering the losses they suffer," he said in an interview with Ukrainian outlet Ukrinform.

Mr Pivnenko said Ukraine's military needed to use the time until Russia scales down its attacks to form divisions "and prepare them".

But he warned there would be no "radical" change or any major imminent breakthrough by Kyiv's troops, with forces continuing to look for Russia's "weak points" and "bypass the strong ones".

Russia is planning to slow YouTube speeds on desktop computers in the country by up to 70% in a bid to penalise the video-sharing site, a senior politician has said.

YouTube is one of just a few social media sites still available in Russia, after Moscow blocked other popular apps such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

Since the 2022 Russian invasion, the Google-owned company has blocked a host of Russian channels and removed thousands of videos related to the war - including some pro-Kremlin content.

Alexander Khinshtein, a Russian politician in the State Duma lower house of parliament, said the "degradation" of YouTube was a "forced step" against a company he claims "continues to believe it can violate and ignore our legislation with impunity".

He said speeds could drop by 40% by the end of this week and 70% by the end of next week.

Russia has repeatedly fined YouTube for failing to take down content Russia considers illegal or undesirable.

The threat of US sanctions on Russian financial institutions is hampering its ability to secure what it needs for the war against Ukraine, the US treasury secretary has said.

Janet Yellen said Russian revenues had also been hindered by other sanctions and a price cap on Russian oil exports.

The US, UK and other Western nations responded to Moscow's invasion of Ukraine with widespread sanctions targeting high-value areas of Russia's economy, including finance, energy and trade.

Some have targeted members of Vladimir Putin's inner circle, as well as Russian firms linked to the conflict.

A cyber attack by Ukraine's military intelligence agency is causing disruption across Russia, according to Ukrainian media reports.

Sources have told the Kyiv Independent, Suspilne and the New Voice of Ukraine that the seemingly large-scale attack, which has disrupted banking and telecommunications in the country, is now in its third day.

The attack was also affecting Russia's VK social media network and some payment systems,  reports suggested.

Ukraine's military intelligence agency (HUR) has not posted anything official about the attack on its Telegram channel.

Vladimir Putin has met Bashar al Assad in Moscow, after a surprise visit from the Syrian president that was announced by the Kremlin this morning.

Footage shared on Telegram by the Russian president's press service showed the two leaders smiling and shaking hands, before sitting down and chatting through their respective interpreters.

"I am very glad to see you," President Putin could be heard gushing to his guest.

Russia has been a key ally for President Assad during the Syrian civil war, helping him regain control over the country following an uprising that began in 2011.

Threats to Britain from Russia's invasion of Ukraine are "alive and well" and "no longer a distant possibility", the head of the UK's defence review has said.

Former NATO chief Lord Robertson is leading a "root and branch" review of the UK's armed forces, launched by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, to assess the defence challenges the country faces.

Speaking in the House of Lords today, he pointed to the "depraved conduct" of Russian forces as an example of what was at stake and said it was vital that the UK's military was strong enough to deter any threat.

"We need to recognise... that the threats to our country and our citizens are no longer theoretical. They are no longer a distant possibility," Lord Robertson said.

"They are alive and well in Ukraine today, where Vladimir Putin's Russia has brutally invaded and sought to occupy a peaceful, neighbouring independent nation-state.

"Anybody who needs reminding of what the stakes are in the world today need only look at the depraved conduct of Putin's occupiers in those parts of the Donbas and Crimea that they presently and temporarily occupy."

During a debate on the subject, Lord Stirrup said the UK should not put off increasing defence spending, saying that Mr Putin would "not wait upon our pleasure".

"I suppose we could send him a note saying: 'Dear Vladimir, we know that you're a dire threat to the peace and security of Europe, but would you mind holding off until we get the books straight?' I doubt that he would pay attention," he said.

A peace settlement in the Ukraine war cannot be achieved without Russia and China at the table, Czech President Petr Pavel has said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been eyeing a second Ukrainian peace summit in November after hosting representatives from 92 countries at the first summit in Switzerland last month aimed at outlining a roadmap for future peace efforts.

Russia was not invited, and said discussing any plans for peace in its absence was a waste of time. China was also absent.

The Ukrainian president said earlier this month that Russia should attend the second meeting if it goes ahead.

Mr Pavel said another summit was "desirable" - but he told Czech news agency CTK that the negotiations would not make sense without Moscow's participation.

"Without Russia and China at the table, there really won't be any peace negotiations," he said.

He also said Beijing should use its status as an "important global player" to urge Russia to move towards peace in the conflict.
