Mitski extends North American tour: Here’s how to register for pre-sale lottery before Jan. 22 deadline

Mitski has added a new leg to her North American tour for this summer and fall, including four shows in Texas.

The extended run of shows, which will be performed in August and September, is in support of the indie artist’s latest album, “The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We,” released in September 2023.

The new dates kick off with a pair of shows in Detroit, Michigan, on Aug. 27 and 28, and conclude with a show in Palo Alto, California, on Sept. 25. Along the way, she’ll hit cities like Washington, D.C., Atlanta and Denver. In Texas, she’ll play shows in Sugar Land on Sep. 10, Austin on Sept. 12, and Grand Prairie on Sept. 13 and 14.

For this leg of her tour, Mitski has selected openers that include Alvvays, Arlo Parks, Ethel Cain and Laufey.

The new tour dates follow Mitski’s previously announced 2024 tour, which kicks off in Miami, Florida, later this month. She then heads overseas for a run in Europe this spring.

In addition to touring around the world this year, Mitski will also be penning the music and lyrics to an upcoming Broadway adaptation of “The Queen’s Gambit.”

How to get tickets to see Mitski

In an effort to create an equal opportunity for fans, Mitski is making show tickets available via a pre-sale lottery. Pre-registration began on Tuesday, Jan. 16, and concludes Monday, Jan. 22, at 9 a.m. CT.

The general on-sale begins Friday, Jan. 26, at 10 a.m. local time, via Ticketmaster .

The pre-sale lottery is in response to frustration over tickets selling out quickly for the leg of Mitski’s tour. Many of the tickets were bought up by scalpers and bots.

At the time, Mitski posted a statement in response to the ticket-buying frustrations, urging fans not to buy from scalpers.

“It breaks my heart to think of you paying exorbitant amounts of money to scalpers when they have nothing to do with the shows or the efforts to make them happen,” she wrote. “I would rather play an empty house than have you give your money to them.”

How the pre-sale lottery works

The pre-sale lottery for Mitski is totally random, so even if you wait until just before the deadline to register, your chances of being selected to purchase show tickets are the same.

For most of the shows, including the ones in Texas, pre-sale lottery registration is handled through AXS.

To register, simply select your desired venue and date. You’ll need to sign up for an account with AXS to register. Registrants will also need to provide a credit card along with the billing address, which will be used for verification purposes only.

Registered fans who are randomly selected will receive an invitation email with instructions to purchase tickets on either Wednesday, Jan. 24, or Thursday, Jan. 25, via the email address used to register for the lottery.

While fans can only register for each date once, if selected, they can purchase up to four tickets per show.

Only one registration per show will be included in each show’s lottery selection. Additional registrations will be disqualified, but the initial registration will remain. Fans can register for as many shows as they would like.

Mitski acoustic North America, UK and Europe tour 2023: Presale, how to buy tickets, dates, venues, & more

I ndie-rock sensation Mitski has announced a series of intimate North American acoustic shows in support of her highly anticipated upcoming album, The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We. The tour, titled "Amateur Mistake," is expected to be massive as it also includes UK and European dates, making it an unforgettable musical experience for the fans.

The " Amateur Mistake" tour will make its way through major cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, London, and Paris throughout the months of September and October.

For the Los Angeles, New York City, and Toronto shows, fans have a chance to win tickets through a special lottery. One can enter this lottery from September 5 at noon until September 10 just before midnight. The lottery winners will be notified on September 13. If there are any tickets left after the lottery, they will be sold to the general public on September 18.

EU and UK presale tickets will go on sale on September 7 at 12 PM BST or 1 PM CET, while the general sale will go on sale on September 8. All tickets can be purchased via Mitski's official website, Mitski.com.

Mitski is an American singer-songwriter with an Oscar nomination for her song This Is a Life

Mitski, whose full name is Mitski Miyawaki, is an American singer and songwriter known for her lyrics and unique style of indie rock music. She was born in Japan to an American father and a Japanese mother. She had a nomadic childhood, moving to 13 different countries worldwide before settling in New York City for college.

She initially pursued a career in music after completing high school in Turkey, and her earliest song, Bag of Bones, appeared on her first album. While studying film at Hunter College in New York, she decided to switch to music and transferred to SUNY Purchase. She then created her first two albums, LUSH and Retired from Sad, New Career in Business, as part of her school projects.

Her third album, Bury Me at Makeout Creek, marked a shift in her music style, moving away from classical piano to embrace raw, impulsive guitar. Her career took off when she signed with the independent label Dead Oceans and released Puberty 2 . This album, featuring the hit song Your Best American Girl, received critical acclaim and established her as a prominent indie artist.

In 2018, Mitski released Be the Cowboy, which explored a different persona and reached high positions on various music charts, including Billboard. She continued experimenting with her music, contributing songs to soundtracks, and writing a score for a graphic novel.

In 2022, she released Laurel Hell, which debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 chart. Her music journey has been marked by constant evolution and a commitment to exploring new sounds and themes, making her a celebrated figure in the indie music scene.

Mitski Will Perform Her Next Album Across The Globe With Newly Announced Intimate Performances

Mitski is just a few days away from dropping her new album, The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We .

To get fans extra excited for the release, she has now announced that she will be performing at several intimate performances across the globe — giving attendees a chance to hear the songs live .

The dates, which run through September and October, find Mitski stopping in Mexico City, North America, and other cities across Europe. Tickets for the Mexico City date on September 11, which starts the run of performances, are on sale now.

According to Mitski’s Instagram post, the North American presale is running off a lottery system. Sign-up is now open and will end Sept. 10, with invites sent out on September 13.

Finally, the European presale sign-up access ends tomorrow, September 6, with the tickets opening for fans on Thursday, September 7 at 12 p.m. BST. All pre-orders of Mitski’s album from her European shop will receive guaranteed access to the presale.

The Amateur Mistake tour will be taking place across North America visiting four different cities and the most intimate of venues they have to offer. Those who want to join the lottery for the Los Angeles date at the Ace Hotel should head here .

Fans will have until Sunday, September 10th at 11:59pm ET to request a ticket through the Mitski presale lottery. If selected you’ll receive an email on September 13th . A presale code is not necessary but you will need to sign up for a chance at presale access for all shows you plan on getting tickets to.

The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We is the seventh studio album from Mitski and arrives on September 15th via Dead Oceans. Be sure to add your billing info (aka credit card info) before jumping into the digital queue for a quick check-out. Once the presale starts, remain in the digital queue. Only use one browser window because using multiple browsers or devices and multiple accounts with the same phone number can result in errors. Trust, it’s happened to us before! Don’t refresh your page, do be patient, don’t leave your page, do get those tickets!

Mitski Expands ‘Inhospitable’ Tour With U.S. Dates

Mitski’ s 2023 Dead Oceans album The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We has pushed her to a new level of visibility thanks to the worldwide streaming juggernaut “My Love Mine All Mine,” which has racked up more than 600 million plays in the past four months. The artist has now expanded her extensive 2024 tour plans with new U.S. dates in August and September, beginning with a two-night stand in Detroit on Aug. 27-28.

Openers for these shows include Laufey, Ethel Cain, Arlo Parks, Wyatt Flores and the Japanese band Lamp, which will be making its debut on American soil. Tickets will be available through a presale lottery beginning today (Jan. 16).

Mitski’s 2024 roadwork gets underway Jan. 26-27 in Miami, with the North American leg concluding with an April 10-13 run at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. U.K. and European shows are on tap starting April 27 in Edinburgh.

Fueled largely by its streaming prowess, “My Love Mine All Mine” became Mitski’s first entry on the Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked at No. 26. In something of a rarity for such a fiercely independent artist, the song is even picking up steam at U.S. top 40 radio stations, where tracks by Tate McRae and Jack Harlow are presently in heavy rotation.

Mitski has announced a string of intimate North American acoustic shows in support of her upcoming album, The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We .

Dubbed “Amateur Mistake,” the tour includes performances in Mexico City, Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto throughout the month of September. Come October, Mitski will play previously announced shows in the UK and Europe. Check out her updated tour schedule below.

Tickets for the LA, NYC, and Toronto shows will be distributed via lottery beginning Wednesday, September 13th (fans can register here ). Meanwhile, tickets for the Mexico City show are currently on sale.

Mitski will play a handful of North American shows this month to mark the release of her new album, The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We , out Sept. 15.

The singer-songwriter has announced four “Amateur Mistake” shows, starting Sept. 11 at the Teatro de la Ciudad in Mexico City. She’ll then play the Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles on Sept. 20, Town Hall in New York City on Sept. 26, and Trinity Church in Toronto on Sept. 29. (A run of previously-announced shows in the U.K. and Europe will follow in October.)

Mitski Shares New Song & Tour Dates For Spring 2022

This is not a drill!

After nearly two years of silence, Mitski has returned with her first new music in over three years. Titled “ Working For The Knife, ” the acclaimed musician’s gritty new single arrives with an accompanying music video, and the announcement of an upcoming spring 2022 tour in North America and Europe , set to kick off in February 2022. They will be her first live shows since wrapping up her Be The Cowboy tour in September 2019, when she announced that she’d be going on an indefinite hiatus and deleted her social media.

The heavy synth and guitar track, produced by her longtime collaborator Patrick Hyland, arrived with an intimate music video shot inside the dim and dramatically lit interiors of The Egg, a performance venue in Albany, New York.

Directed by Zia Anger with Ashley Connor directing photography, the video begins with Mitski sulking about the cavernous premises in a black cowboy hat and matching coat, which she later unveils to reveal a silky blue jumpsuit underneath. She dances around the theatre — even getting on a handrail and licking it — as she sings solemnly about feeling like the world is moving on without her, and “working for the knife,” which we’re interpreting to be a not-so-subtle metaphor for capitalism.

“It’s about going from being a kid with a dream, to a grown up with a job, and feeling that somewhere along the way you got left behind,” Mitski wrote of the song in a press release. “It’s being confronted with a world that doesn’t seem to recognize your humanity, and seeing no way out of it.”

Since lockdown, there’s been no shortage of art released centered around that specific feeling of dehumanization by the wider systems of power that be, but Mitski’s “Working the Knife” stands out. As with all her music, she nails the issue right on the head while drilling deeper into its complexities. At the end of the video, after the music’s faded away, Mitski stands alone onstage as an imaginary crowd cheers her on and she continues dancing — desperately, panting; at the end of the frenzied choreography, she collapses onto the ground and looks up with a grin into the camera. Despite it all, one can’t deny that there’s still some sick pleasure to be derived from the system’s approval.

Mitski released Be The Cowboy in August 2018. The 14-track-album was a breakout for the beloved singer who’d already amassed a sizable cult following with her previous four records, Lush , Retired From Sad, New Career In Business , Bury Me At Makeout Creek , and Puberty 2 .

Her forthcoming spring 2022 tour kicks off February 17, 2022 in Asheville, North Carolina and ends May 19 in Munich, Germany. Read on for the full list of dates and cities below, and how to buy tickets.

The land may be inhospitable —  and so are we — but Mitski sure isn’t.

Fans of the wistful indie icon will be pleased to hear that she’s added 15 August and September shows featuring special guests Laufey , Lamp , Alvvays , Arlo Parks , Ethel Cain and Wyatt Flores on select dates to her 2024 ‘The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We Tour.’

On the first leg of the tour, Tamino, Sunny War , Julia Jacklin and Sarah Kinsley will serve as Mitski’s support acts.

With the addition of the second North American leg of the tour, the 33-year-old singer-songwriter now has 51 U.S. concerts lined up this year; that includes seven consecutive New York City and Brooklyn gigs at the Beacon and Kings Theatre this February.

“In our efforts to make the show experience extra special, we found beautiful, seated theaters to play over multiple nights, rather than one giant venue per city, in the hopes of offering a more intimate experience to the audience,” Mitski shared on Instagram .

On Sept. 15, 2023, Mitski released her seventh studio album, “The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We.”

Over 11 tracks, she delivers her signature sensitive pop complete with warm choruses, evocative lyrics and lilting guitar.

After a handful of listens, our team kept coming back to the gorgeously arranged first song “Bug Like An Angel,” which is equal parts intimate and grand. Oakland County woman claims $1M win from gas station lottery ticket

An Oakland County woman has won a $1 million prize from the Michigan Lottery's Hamilton instant game.

The 40-year-old, who chose to remain anonymous, recently claimed her big win after buying a lucky ticket at a Meijer gas station off Haggerty Highway in Commerce Township, lottery officials said in a press release.

She and her husband had played instant tickets regularly before the prize, she said in the statement.

“When we scratched off our Hamilton ticket and saw we won $1 million, we were ecstatic!" she said. "We always had a feeling the day would come where we won big, and it’s a blessing that it really happened!”

The woman chose to receive her prize as a one-time lump sum payment of $693,000, according to the release. She plans to buy a new car and save the rest of the money.

The bonus follows a string of other large wins.

An Oakland County man claimed a $2 million win from the Jackson instant game, officials announced Aug. 6.

A Grand Rapids man also recently claimed a $1 million Powerball prize, officials announced a day later.

Another lottery group won a $697,974 Fantasy 5 Jackpot mid-July, officials said.

More than $38 million in Michigan Lottery prizes are still up for grabs, including two $1 million top prizes, 19 $10,000 prizes and 92 $2,000 prizes, officials reported.

He won the NYC housing lottery after applying more than 60 times. Now, he pays $2,300 in rent for his Brooklyn apartment.

• His monthly rent for a studio apartment in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, is $2,345.
• The average ratio for the housing lottery is 450 applications for each rental unit.

When Josh Ayala first received a call about a Brooklyn apartment he'd applied for under New York City's affordable-housing lottery , he was surprised.

It was February 2023, more than 8 months since he sent in his application for that apartment building.

"I was like, wait, what? I totally forgot I applied to this," Ayala, 26, told Business Insider.

The affordable-housing lotteries are run by the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, or HPD, and the Housing Development Corporation.

Ayala was 21 when he first learned about the program from a colleague at his old job.

"Someone was talking about the New York City Housing Connect, and they mentioned how you could move into new buildings with affordable rent," Ayala said. "I wasn't ready to move out yet, but I thought it was a good program. I want to make sure I apply to this when I do want to move."

Fast-forward two years, and it was finally time for him to strike out on his own.

He was coming from a three-bedroom home in Queens, where he lived with his family.

At that time, Ayala had just left his job to pursue his passion in the creative field and was accepted into One School, a program aimed at helping Black creatives craft a portfolio to work in the ad industry.

"I had already been applying for homes during the program," Ayala said. "Literally, as soon as I ended that program and got recruited for a job, that's when I started to hear back from places."

One apartment to 450 applicants

To qualify for a lottery apartment, each household must meet specific income requirements, which vary across developments depending on unit size and location.

Both rental and homeownership units are available, and application is free.

While applicants don't need to be US citizens, NYC residents get priority, Aileen Reynolds, the assistant commissioner of housing opportunity at HPD, told BI.

But competition is stiff: According to the HPD, on average, there are 450 applications received per rental unit.

Ayala, an art director, said he sent out more than 60 applications for different buildings all across NYC. He wanted a spacious apartment with plenty of natural light.

"I feel like in New York, so much of the year is cold or gloomy during the winter. If I'm going to be in a small space and then not have light, it's going to be very bad for my mental health ," Ayala said. "I was also looking at proximity to things to do and the subway — I didn't want to be very far removed from things happening."

Despite viewing a couple of different apartments prior, none of them stood out to him like his current place — in Greenpoint — which checked off all the items on his list.

The studio had large windows and came with both a washer and dryer and a dishwasher. It was also six minutes from an East River Route ferry terminal, with East 34th Street in Manhattan as the next stop, and an eight-minute walk from the Greenpoint Avenue subway station.

Ayala knew he'd found the right space. Within a month of the viewing, he was offered the apartment and signed the lease. In June 2023, he moved in.

He recently renewed his lease for another year and now pays $2,345 in rent monthly and $230 for the building's amenity fees.

The median monthly rent for a studio apartment in Greenpoint is $3,988, according to the latest August data from RentHop.com.

"Lease offers are always one or two years — it's the applicant's choice — and then they have to be offered a renewal," Reynolds said. "The city's rent stabilization program also restricts how much the rent can go up each year."

And the income and household size requirements apply only during the initial move-in, Reynolds added.

"Of course, if they're anticipating a change in their household that they know about at the time of move-in, they should disclose that. But if it's something that unexpectedly happens several months or even years in, there's no impact on their lease or their apartment situation," Reynolds said.

An apartment of his own

Ayala said the day he moved into the apartment felt surreal because it was his first home.

"And I didn't have anything really yet because I've never been in an apartment, so I had to buy all new things or find things for my space. So it felt like a very blank canvas," he added.

He estimated the apartment to be about 500 square feet but said the abundance of natural light made it feel more spacious.

"In a way, I'm glad. If it were any bigger, it would be more complicated to clean, maintain, and furnish," Ayala said.

Ayala's apartment is cozy, colorful, and filled with art pieces — many of which are his own.

It's hard to describe his space as any one theme, though he said he liked midcentury and Scandinavian styles . One thing's for sure — he believes in investing in quality furniture pieces.

"I have spent a good amount of money on my couch, my table, and stuff like that. But to me, the way that I view it is there are pieces that can last me literally forever," Ayala said, adding that he could always resell them or give them away if he didn't want them anymore.

Moving into this apartment also got him even more interested in interior design — so much so that he's even started a TikTok channel to document his journey transforming and decorating his space.

"I would say investing in your space and making it your style is also important. I'm not just filling a space because I need a couch, so I'm just going to buy any couch and throw it out when I get my dream house," Ayala said. "To me, that's wasteful too."

A life-changing opportunity

Living in NYC doesn't come cheap ,  and housing is an even bigger headache: The  median sales price for homes  hit $785,000 in early 2024, while the  median rent in NYC  is $3,684. All while city housing inventory is at its lowest since 1968 .

Not only that, but rents in NYC increased seven times as fast as wages from 2022 to 2023, a StreetEasy analysis found. Even the city's tech workers — who make $135,000 on average — can't afford to rent most of the apartments on the market.

And that's why Ayala is also passionate about sharing his housing-lottery journey with his followers on TikTok.

"I'm surprised at how many, who are from New York and have lived there their whole lives, don't know that this program even exists, Ayala said.

Even though it takes time — sometimes even years — for people to hear back or be successful in their bid, winning the housing lottery could, quite literally, be life-changing.

That's why he recommends applying to as many places under the housing lottery as possible.

"I feel like a lot of people close the door on opportunities that could potentially come their way before even applying," Ayala said. "Be open to exploring different areas of the city because you literally never know when you'll get a call back or get the chance to view an apartment."

He suggests keeping important documents — such as birth certificates, bank documents, and pay slips — on hand so that they can be easily retrieved when required during the housing-lottery application process.

It also helps to ensure the files are labeled correctly for ease of review.

"The person who is going to review the applications is not going to know what it is, and they're going to have to go in and see what each thing is," Ayala said. "But if you make that process easier for people, it also makes it easier for them to reach out to you more quickly."
