Sorry, Swifties: Taylor Swift won't be coming to Canada any time soon.

The pop singer announced the international leg of her wildly popular Eras world tour on Tuesday. Canadian cities like Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver were conspicuously absent from the list.

The Anti-Hero  singer is currently on the U.S. leg of her tour, which ends on Aug. 9.

Just two weeks later, she'll begin a 50-show run across North America, South America, Europe and Asia, with a kickoff concert in Mexico City on Aug. 24.

Canadian fans were anxious to hear if Swift would make her way to the other side of the border during the tour's next wave.

The newly announced leg ends in August 2024, so it could be a while before Swift touches down in Canada, if she does at all. The last time she did was for her Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018.

Money, geography may be why Taylor Swift isn't touring in Canada

As superstar Taylor Swift continues to take the world by storm with her massively popular Eras Tour, there’s one country that’s being left out of the excitement – Canada.

Canadians were left heartbroken after the star announced her international tour dates, which didn’t include any Canadian cities.

Kevin Donnelly, senior vice president of venues and entertainment with True North Sports and Entertainment, said there is no big conspiracy surrounding why Swift is not coming to Canada.

“There are obviously many, many more cities that would like to have Taylor Swift come to visit them, but the decision-making process that they went through ended up without them stopping in Canada,” he said.

“I think the fans that want to see her are expected to go to those nearby markets, whether it’s Detroit or Chicago or Seattle or other places that are near the Canadian border that would be good targets for Canadian fans to go see her.”

Donnelly said that some of the factors that may deter artists from coming to Canada are money, the exchange rate, and whether certain venues are available.

“It’s a combination of the money available through the size of your venue, the currency you’re going to pay in, and the availability of that venue and the schedule of that performer,” he said.

Donnelly explained the easiest thing for Canadian markets is when an artist decides to schedule a number of Canadian dates together, as opposed to coming into the country for one show and then returning to the United States.

When it comes to Taylor Swift, Canada’s size and geography may also have played a role in why she’s not coming.

“In Taylor Swift’s case, because it’s multiple stadiums in very, very large cities, it would have been cross the border one time, play Toronto. There’s not a nearby stadium of that size that she can hit as well, so it’s one date in Toronto and out,” Donnelly said.

However, despite this disappointment, Donnelly said Canadians should try to stay optimistic.

“Just because it didn’t happen on this tour, doesn’t mean it won’t happen on a subsequent tour,” he said.

“She’s a young lady, of course, and hopefully there’s a long touring history ahead of her yet to be accomplished.”

The Eras Tour has dates scheduled in the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Australia, France, and more.

MP files 'official grievance' after Taylor Swift announces new tour dates with no Canadian cities

An Alberta MP is filing an "official grievance" with the House of Commons calling on Taylor Swift to bring her Eras Tour to Canada.

"It has come to my attention that despite much anticipation, Taylor Swift's Eras Tour has neglected to include any Canadian dates or locations as she released her international dates, with includes stops throughout Asia and Europe," Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux wrote in a letter addressed to House Speaker Anthony Rota on Wednesday.

The pop superstar announced international tour dates for the Eras Tour on Tuesday. Swift has international shows planned in Latin America, Europe, Asia and Australia, but no Canadian dates were announced.

Swift is already more than halfway through her U.S. tour, which has been a boon to the hotel and tourism industry in each city that she has performed in. Online research company QuestionPro estimates that her tour could generate nearly US$5 billion for the U.S. economy.

"Not only is this leaving Canadian fans without the opportunity to see her tour, but it is also leaving Canada out of the economic opportunities her shows generate," Jeneroux wrote. "Fans just don't simply attend concerts, they spend money at local business including hotels, restaurants, and shops."

Jeneroux's grievance also has the support from fellow Conservative MP Melissa Lantsman and Liberal MP Ya'ara Saks.

"I have no idea how this works, but I’ll second this grievance from @jeneroux if you even can do that," Lantsman tweeted on Wednesday . "We got you, Swifties."

"Joint seconding this one @jeneroux for my two #Swifies at home," Saks also tweeted Wednesday .

The Eras Tour is Swift's sixth world tour and her only one to omit any stops in Canada. Swift's last performance in Canada was in August 2018, when she stopped in Toronto for her Reputation Stadium Tour.

Joint seconding this one @jeneroux for my two #Swifies at home - let’s get UC! #cdnpoli #TaylorSwiftErasTour https://t.co/j5Ql4VBFNU

Taylor Swift Announces End of Her Eras Tour Era: “I Think I Once Had Hobbies”

taylor swift tour no canada

There’s long, and then there’s “perform a very physical three-hour-plus concert 150ish times around the world throughout two calendar years.” The latter is where Taylor Swift finds herself, announcing onstage at her 100th Eras Tour performance that her December 2024 run in Vancouver, Canada will be the end of the tour.

While introducing the 10-minute extended version of “All Too Well” (speaking of long) Thursday evening in Liverpool during the first of her three planned shows there, Swift announced the news.

“You know, this is actually the 100th show of the show,” she said, saying that it “blows my mind.”

“This has definitely been the most exhausting, all-encompassing, but most joyful, most rewarding, most wonderful thing that has ever happened in my life,” she said. But all good things must come to an end, or so we hear. “This is the very first time I’ve ever acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is gonna end in December,” she said. “Like, that’s it.

“And that feels like so far away from now,” she added. “But then again, it feels like we just played our first show on this tour. Because you have made this so much fun for us that we wanted to do a hundred shows, 150-something shows that we have on the whole tour.”

She went on to admit that “this tour has really become my entire life. Like, it’s taken over everything. I think I once had hobbies, but I don’t know what they were anymore. Because all I do when I’m not on stage is, like, sit at home and try to think of clever acoustic song mashups and think about what you might want to hear. So when I’m not on the stage, I’m dreaming about being back on the stage with you guys.” She thanked the fans for their effort and told them that “I appreciate every single ounce of effort that you put in to be with us.”

Notably, Swift has dropped the (Taylor’s Version) re-recordings of two of her older albums, Speak Now and 1989 , during the tour’s run, plus the super-sized 31-track album The Tortured Poets Department . Oh, and she released that record-breaking concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour . And she nabbed a historic fourth Album of the Year Grammy . That to-do list of hers has gotten plenty done, and there’s still time yet for more of the singer's signature surprises.

Though she sings in “Gorgeous” that she’ll “stumble on home to my cats,” Swifties know that there’s someone else the singer has been spending time with offstage, and he also has whiskers, despite being human. Swift stayed up late Thursday night to virtually join in on celebrations for boyfriend Travis Kelce as he and the Kansas City Chiefs accepted their latest championship hardware during the ring ceremony for their 2024 Super Bowl win. While Swift couldn’t do a repeat of February’s post-game celebrations (smooches, lip-sync serenades , and all), she hopped onto the Instagram Live cast of the ceremony to watch Kelce put a ring on it and dropped some choice all-caps comments in real-time.

“JOINING THE PARTY FROM LIVERPOOL LET’S GOOOOOOOO,” she commented on the stream, throwing in some “AHHHHHHH” and “YESSSSSSSS” to make her feelings clear. Eventually, she decided that it was time to get some sleep, presumably to prep for Friday night’s show and have those dreams about being onstage that she talked about. “Gotta go to sleep it’s so late here love you guys❣️❣️❣️,” she wrote in parting.

The Eras Tour continues its European run through August, before Swift takes a several-week break. In mid-October, she concludes the tour with stops in three U.S. cities, then a final jaunt to Canada to close out the run, which began in March 2023. Then, perhaps, she will rediscover her hobbies.
