Great experience. Probably one of the best of my life. Very well organized especially by our tour guide and his whole crew. The planning done by them was very good. Great accommodations. Good bikes. Very helpful throughout the trip whenever required. Proper instructions were given throughout. all are well managed.😍😍

Not any problem occurred during the trip. Thanks ! Banbanjara

wonderful trip

I have always been a solo rider. Traveling in a group was so much fun, having a backup vehicle made things even better. All the hotels and meals being booked made my life easier and of course - all the great friends I have made - were the cherry on the cake :) it's a nice time spending for me.

To start with I had the most adventurous ride of a lifetime. A bike trip allows you to experience the best just in front of your eyes and Manali to Leh was one of my dream destinations. The word that follows will be a huge WOW. I went with my 2 friends and once we reached there we were provided with our bikes. Another best thing was that the fuel was included in the package. This is a must-trip for the bikers.

Deepak Kaul

The trip sure will test your resolve and character as challenges on and off the road, altitude sickness, scarcity of your conventional food, etc. But once past that the memories you make are pure and will last for life! I sincerely feel relieved to take the trip through Banbanjara and not attempt a solo ride on our own. This trip is for those who are willing to push themselves a bit extra to experience the Adventure of a Lifetime!!

Vikrant Pratap

Mobile Phones and STD Booths

Mobile Phones and STD Booths

The only service providers in the valley of Leh are the BSNL and Airtel. Hence, the people who have the post-paid connections from these operators can enjoy a hassle-free connectivity during their visit to Leh. On the other hand, if you do not have the post-paid connection from the aforementioned service providers, there are only two options for you: First, either buy a prepaid connection from the mentioned service providers or just use the overcrowded phone booths located in the Leh city.

As the city of Ladakh has a considerable amount of Army, the phone booths in the city are almost always crowded and you can find a lot of soldiers waiting in line to talk to their loved ones, especially in the booths located near the main market or the main road of Leh.

However, if you want to buy the prepaid sim from BSNL or Airtel, it is one of the toughest tasks for the Indian nationals. As the Indian Govt. considers the regions of Leh-Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir as sensitive areas, getting a SIM card is a daunting process for Indians.

Hence, it is recommended that you do not apply for the SIM cards until you are planning to stay for long in the city. On the other hand, the foreign nationals can easily get the prepaid connections and the process is pretty straightforward. They only have to submit photocopies of passport and two passports sized photographs while submitting the application for the SIM cards.  Also Checkout:  Leh Ladakh Tour Packages From Nagpur

To make it further interesting, there are the double-humped Bactrian Camels, offering rides through the dunes. And when it turns dusky, head to the Diskit Monastery and visit the towering statue of Maitreya Buddha which looks over the entire valley and blesses it for another day to come.Planning a Trip to Ladakh, Experience of Chadar Trek - The Frozen River Trek

“ I recently went to Winter Spiti Valley trip with JustWravel which ended up being more as a trip with best friends. JustWravel had everything sorted for us be it transportation, safety, constant checkups, personalised care , accommodation, food and everything was super comfortable and amazing. Then it comes to the best part of this trip our trip captains - Abhishek and Ramneek He treated us like their own brother from day one and made sure all of us are having the time of our lives. They had constant checkups to ensure all of us are doing great physically. They had good knowledge about the place and shared the same with us as well. I would surely plan my next trip with JustWravel. I would like to mention an instance: I forgot my bag in the Volvo bus and there was nothing important in that bag but our captains still went out of their way to ensure that I got my bag safely. ”

SOS : Sale Of the Season

When it comes to a Leh Ladakh bike trip, it’s a known fact that the majority of people have it reserved on top of their bucket list. It has been decades since Ladakh first opened its route for travelers and yet it is still renowned as a bikers paradise.  The main reason is that a bike trip to Ladakh encompasses both adventure and peace. On one hand, you get to traverse through different terrains with the landscape in the backdrop changing from the lush green valleys of Kullu to the cold deserts of Ladakh. On the other hand, the dramatic shift in the culture that you witness as you move on this bike trip to Leh from Manali also is one of the reasons why so many travelers wait for Ladakh season to commence.  The Leh Manali route is one that many adventure seekers opt for simply because of the rugged terrain with the majestic view of the Himalayas in the backdrop. Since the route from Manali to Leh stretches to approx 474Kms of land, it also allows riders to have the experience of the ultimate road trip on one of the most popular highways of India.

Another reason why many travelers prefer to go to Leh Ladakh from Manali is because of all the popular attractions they get to witness throughout their journey. After all, Ladakh bike trips are known to provide people with diverse experiences, part of which comes from the landmarks that adorn the trail that leads you to Leh. In this itinerary, we’ve curated an experience that consists of some of the best places to visit in Ladakh and have also made sure that the ride leading up to Leh from Manali is just as exciting as spending your days in the Land of High passes.  We first make our way from Manali with the stunning views of Kullu valley accompanying us throughout the ride until we reach Sarchu , which is a major halt point for all travelers and riders who embark on a Ladakh bike trip for acclimatization purposes. At an altitude of 13,783 ft, Sarchu serves as an ideal tented accommodation amid the Himalayas and gives you the first glimpse at the barrenness that Ladakh is known for. En route Sarchu, you’d be traversing through Baralacha La pass which, nestled at an altitude of 15,912 ft, is one of the most popular high motorable passes in the Zanskar range.

The best part about going to Leh from Manali is that the journey takes two days which allows you more time to explore Ladakh as much as you want and make the most out of your experience. As you move towards Leh from Sarchu, the trail becomes dirt-ridden and bumpy up until you reach More plains which is a vast stretch of plain land as opposed to the jagged terrains that you ride throughout your Ladakh bike trip. The terrain remains straight for approximately 35 kilometers up until the point you come across Tanglang La pass which is when you’d start to feel the rise in the road as the pass is nestled at an altitude of 17,480ft.  Soon after you’d reach Upshi which is one of the highest civilized settlements in India. The small village which lies along the pristine Indus river is the last milestone you traverse through before finally reaching Leh.  When it comes to Leh, there’s no limit to the outburst of a vibrant culture that you get to witness here. As the largest city in Ladakh, it is the ultimate stop for travelers to feed on local cuisine, shop for souvenirs and get in touch with the locals. Naturally, a Leh sightseeing tour is a significant part of any Ladakh bike trip which is why we’ve included some of the must-visit places in Leh on this trip.  Starting from Shey Palace which is an abode to a 12 meters tall copper Buddha statue gilded with gold expanding to three floors of the monastery. Apart from the statue, the monastery also holds thangka paintings as well as centuries-old manuscripts that have been preserved for ages now. Afterward, we will visit Thiksey Monastery which is the largest gompa in central Ladakh and holds extreme religious significance as the temple inside the monastery was commemorated by the Dalai Lama himself in 1970. It also has the largest statue of Maitreya Buddha which is as tall as a two-story building.  The last stop in the Leh sightseeing day would be Shanti Stupa , a white-domed pristine structure nestled at an altitude of 11,841 feet that offers a stunning panoramic view of the entire district. It also holds ancient relics of Buddha in its embrace and is one of the most popular attractions of Ladakh.

Although Ladakh is mostly popular among biking enthusiasts and has branded itself to be a place that offers off-roading adventures, there are many other activities that a few hidden gems of Ladakh offer. One of them is Nubra Valley , which offers the opportunity for people to indulge in ATV rides as well as Bactrian camel safari rides as the double hump camel is found only here. Apart from that Nubra has also known for its river beds and the ride to Nubra from Leh consists of traversing through yet another iconic pass which is Khardung La pass. At an altitude of 18,379ft, it is one of the highest motorable passes in the world and is a gateway to the Shyok and Nubra valleys. The next stop in this Ladakh bike trip package is the iconic Pangong lake. Popularized after featuring in many Bollywood movies including 3 Idiots, the lake is also known to have fascinating qualities such as that it changes color according to the direction of the sun and that despite being a saltwater lake, it freezes completely. En route to Pangong, we’d pay a visit to Diskit Monastery which is the oldest and largest gompa in Nubra valley and is notable for its 32-meter tall Buddha statue that overlooks the Shyok river.  It also has a lot of frescoes, paintings, and statues that are symbols of the Buddhist culture that is prevalent throughout the valley.  As we started this Leh bike trip from Manali covering one route that leads you to Ladakh, for the return journey we take you through the Leh Srinagar route, and in this way, you get to experience the best of both routes to Ladakh.

As we head from Leh to Kargil which is the second-largest city in Ladakh, we’d be traversing through many iconic passes including Fotu La pass which nestled at an altitude of 13,478ft is the highest point on the Srinagar Leh highway surpassing the otherwise iconic Zoji La pass which is at an altitude of 11,575ft. The other pass between Leh and Kargil is Namika La which is at an altitude of 12,139 ft. Apart from all these passes of the Zanskar range of the Himalayas, you also get to visit some other popular attractions in Ladakh.  The first one is Gurudwara Patthar Ganj Sahib which is dedicated to the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Sahib. Although Buddhism is largely practiced in the entire region, the gurudwara attracts devotees from all over the world, and many Buddhists also come here to pay their reverence. The place of worship is maintained by the Indian Army and has extreme spiritual and historical significance associated with it like many other Gurudwara that provide regular Langar, Patthar sahib too offers it to all those who visit it.

Another popular attraction of Ladakh that you get to visit when you’re traversing through the Srinagar - Leh route is the Magnetic Hill which is believed to be a gravity-defying phenomenon. It is believed that when driving in a certain spot, your vehicle travels uphill even if you’re driving in the opposite direction. Although it has been said that there is a brilliant optical illusion at play, the popularity of magnetic hills has only increased in recent years.

Last but not least is The Hall of Fame , which is a museum dedicated to all the martyrs who lost their lives during the many battles that occurred post-partition along with the Kargil war that happened in 1999. The Hall of Fame is a reminder of the many sacrifices that Ladakh has witnessed in the past. The museum has a wall named “The Last Post” which has all the letters written by soldiers in their last few days before they lost their lives in the Kargil war.  As you leave Kargil behind, you’d yet again witness the contrasting landscape that this bike trip is popular from. The barren cold desert of Ladakh will soon be replaced by the lush green meadows of Kashmir as you move toward Srinagar.

This Ladakh bike trip package gives people a chance to embark on a full-circuit bike trip ride throughout Ladakh. The best time to go on this Leh Ladakh bike trip is from the months of June to September as all the passes that connect different valleys which you’d be passing through in this bike trip open after May when the snow melts away to give way for authorities to restore the many high passes that Ladakh is known for.

Overall, this Ladakh bike trip package starting from Manali and ending in Srinagar encompasses everything that you’d imagine for your dream trip to be and hence needs to be ticked off of your bucket list as soon as possible.

What are some precautions we need to take when on a bike trip to Ladakh?

As you travel to higher altitudes, your body doesn't get enough oxygen which is the main cause of AMS. This can easily be avoided if one keeps drinking water, stays hydrated, and intakes enough carbohydrate-rich foods to keep the body warm.

Another thing to keep in mind when traveling to Ladakh is that you need to wear proper layers so that your body temperature is maintained.

Most importantly, make sure you cover your ears when traversing through the high passes as the chances of you getting hit by AMS, motion sickness, and the possibility of you getting pain or discomfort are extremely high while ascending.

Does it get difficult to breathe in Ladakh?

Nestled at an elevation of almost 11,500 ft Ladakh is a high-altitude region and if you're traveling from the plains, then you will start to face some difficulty as the atmospheric pressure drops. As a result, there is less oxygen in the air the higher you go.

You might get hit by a wave of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) where your symptoms would breathlessness would be a major symptom while the other symptoms would include headache, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, and more. It is important to keep drinking water and give your body at least a day so that it can get acclimatized properly.

Read more about AMS here:  https://www.justwravel.com/blog/a-guide-to-ams/

How long does it take one to get acclimatized in Ladakh?

The time taken to acclimatize may vary from person to person. You are traveling to a height of around 3500 meters. In most cases, people abruptly feel the changes while some people will acclimatize easily. For some people, it can take the whole first day. But in case of flying in, we do recommend 1-day of complete rest in Leh.

Additionally, for precautionary measures, one needs to spend at least 24-48 hours at rest in Leh to get acclimatized properly.

What is special about Kargil and Dras?

The Kargil War fought in 1999 against Pakistan is a testimonial to the raw courage and strength of The Indian Army. A War memorial to honor the sacrifices made by our brave soldiers is situated in Drass and is a must-visit place when traveling to Ladakh.

Drass is also the first village while embark on the Zoji La pass and offers spectacular views of the nearby surroundings, it is also known to be the coldest place in India.

What are some of the things to do in Manali?

Manali is Himachal’s most fabled town and has some great cafes, bars, viewpoints, and markets.

You can visit Solang valley and Anjani Mahadev, which is about an hour from the main town.

Mall Road is one of the very famous attractions as it has an array of Clubs, Cafes, and markets where you can find a number of Himchali apparel, and handicrafts and is the perfect place to buy souvenirs.

You can easily rent bikes from Manali or even Delhi. All you have to do is submit some required documents and security money and certify that you're having a valid driver's license. Additionally, if you damage the bike during the course of the trip, you will have to pay the amount to the shop owner according to the damage incurred.

Ladakh is a cold desert and the weather condition changes there from minute to minute, so being mentally and strategically prepared is always good. There is no network, so you cannot ca anybody for help, and should always be self-reliable.

Keep a daypack with all your essentials such as medication including Diamox for AMS, a small oxygen cylinder, a water bottle, and more. Be sure to get to know your bike and how to tackle some common emergencies. Take a physical map of the terrain and make sure that you know how to use the same. If you're riding solo then 350 CC or above will be a comfortable choice and the same goes for 500 CC and above for dual riders.

How can we reach Ladakh?

You can reach Ladakh via road or by flight.

When it comes to flights, you can land at Leh Airport as it is connected to major cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, and Srinagar, through direct and connecting flights.

When it comes to roads there are two routes. One is from Manali and the other is via Srinagar. If you're traveling via Manali, you'll need to cover a distance of approximately 474 kilometers while the Srinagar route is shorter in comparison with a stretch of 434 Kilometers of road.

Here is everything you need to know about Leh Ladakh:

How to Reach Leh Ladakh

The Indian winter paradise of Ladakh is one of the most valued travel destinations for both nature lovers and thrill-seekers. Mountain bikers, trekkers, and hikers will love this spot. Ladakh, which is 3,001 meters above sea level, appears otherworldly with its surrounding peaks, valleys, ancient monasteries, and alpine lakes.

By Road - Despite its high elevation, major Indian towns like Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir and Manali in Himachal Pradesh have good road connections to Ladakh. The fact remains, though, that individuals can only schedule their road travel during the first six months of the year because snowfall keeps the roads closed the rest of the time.

Biker favorite route 1 is from Manali to Leh. The Manali to Leh route is superior, more practical, and has some of the nicest views along the way. Leh is around 490 kilometers from Manali.

Route 1-  Manali-Rohtang-Gramphu-Kokhsar-Keylong-Jispa-Darcha-Zingzingbar-Baralacha La-Bharatpur-Sargu-Gata Loops-Nakee La-Lachulung La-Pang-Tanglang La-Gya-Upshi-Kuru-Leh

Route 2: The roadway between Srinagar and Leh is less often traveled.

Srinagar – Sonmarg – Zozi La – Drass – Kargil – Mulbek – Lamayaru – Saspol – Leh

By Air - Air travel is one of the most convenient and pleasant methods to go to Ladakh. There are several airlines that offer direct flights to Ladakh. The Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh is the closest airport to the city.

Best Time to Visit Leh Ladakh

The best time to visit Leh Ladakh is from May to September. The beautiful weather and open roads to Leh make it easier to get there during this time of year.

Summer (May to September) : With its pleasant temperatures and beautiful skies, summer is Leh Ladakh's busiest travel season. Visitors can experience the region's breathtaking landscapes since the majority of the routes, including high-altitude crossings and famous lakes like Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri, are open. Adventure seekers come from all over the world to participate in outdoor activities like white-water rafting, trekking, and camping because of the perfect weather.

Spring (Late April to Early May):  As temperatures progressively rise and the snow starts to melt, spring signals the start of the tourist season. With snow-capped peaks in the background, the landscape comes to life with flowering flowers, even though certain higher passes may still be unreachable early in the season. Less people visit around this time, so it's ideal for individuals looking for a peaceful experience.

Autumn (late September to October): With crisper weather and colorful scenery, autumn showcases Leh Ladakh in all its splendor. Winter is coming, but the days are still nice and the nights are starting to grow chilly. Even while certain tourist attractions might close by the end of October, most attractions are still open, and there are comparatively fewer people around, making it a great time for a quiet vacation.

Winter (November to April): Because of the intense cold and a lot of snowfall, which cause road closures, particularly in higher-altitude places, winter is the off-season for tourists in Leh Ladakh. snow, however, offers special chances for those seeking adventure, such as going on snow trekking and attending customary celebrations like Losar. Even if there aren't as many amenities available, visiting Leh Ladakh in all of its icy beauty may be an unforgettable experience.

The Best Places to Visit in Ladakh

Nubra Valley - Nubra, a deep gorge created by the Shyok and Siachen Rivers, is without a doubt one of the top tourist destinations in Ladakh. In addition to being the starting point for some of the highest regions, such Siachen Glacier, it is also the location of the hot springs at Panamik settlement, the old monasteries, the sand dunes of Hunder, and the settlement split along a boundary.

Pangong Tso  - One of the most well-liked and fantastic locations to visit in Ladakh is Pangong Lake, which is the highest saltwater lake in the world. Several scenes from the films 3 Idiots, Jab Tak hai Jaan, and many more were filmed there as well.

Lamayuru -  Tradition has it that the Yuru Gompa, commonly referred to as the "eternal monastery," was the first Bon Monastery to be built in Ladakh.

Shanti Stupa - Ladakhi and Japanese Buddhists collaborated to construct the Shanti Stupa. This white-domed structure, perched atop a hill, is a popular tourist destination in Ladakh and is said to contain Buddha relics.

Khardung La Pass -  One of the highest motorable passes in the world, the Khardung La Pass serves as a gateway to Ladakh's Nubra and Shyok Valleys.

Magnetic Hill   -  Magnetic Hill is a picturesque and captivating route that runs next to the Sindhu river. When you park your car in the designated white box on the road, the vehicle will begin to ascend at a rate of twenty kilometers per hour on its own. The phenomenon piques travelers' curiosity and is the subject of numerous mythology.

Tso Moriri -  Tso Moriri is undoubtedly at the top of the list when it comes to Ladakh tourist destinations. Tso Moriri, the region's largest lake, is a lesser-known paradise hidden among Ladakh's high mountains. Measuring around 26 km in length and 8 km in width, it's one of the region's hidden treasures!

Diskit Gompa - One of the main draws for tourists visiting Nubra Valley is the 108-foot-tall Maitreya Buddha statue, which stands guard over the Shyok River. It was constructed to uphold the ideals of harmony and serenity as well as to keep evil out of Diskit Village.

Hanle - Hanle, another breathtakingly gorgeous location in Ladakh, is literally heaven for all astronomy enthusiasts. Situated around 250 kilometers from Leh on the historic India-Tibetan trade route, it is the site of the Indian Astronomical Observatory and one of the oldest monasteries constructed in the Indo-Chinese style.

Turtuk - Located at the northernmost point of Nubra beside the Shyok River, Turtuk is the final settlement situated in the Baltistan region along the boundary between India and Pakistan. For the Indian Army, this region is crucial since it serves as the entrance to Siachen Glacier. One of the best spots to visit in Ladakh is its apricot-laden orchards, lush plains, pure river banks, and captivating history.

Umling La  - The world's highest motorable pass, Umling La, has been built by BRO (Border Roads Organization), surpassing national expectations once again and surpassing Khardung La and Mana Pass in Uttarakhand. Constructed as part of "Project Himank," the 19,300-foot road trip is sure to leave you feeling amazed, ecstatic, and full of adrenaline.

JustWravel Review by Ritin Suvarna

I recently went to Winter Spiti Valley trip with JustWravel which ended up being more as a trip with best friends.

Continuing on the scenic route, we reach Sangam Point, the meeting point of the Indus and Zanskar rivers.
