Walking in Greece & The Greek Islands

Follow in the footsteps of legendary heroes and start your own Odyssey by walking in Greece. Hike over sunbaked cliffs with the azure sea glittering by your side, explore jaw-dropping gorges that look like they have been carved by the gods and enjoy fresh, simple cuisine that highlights Greece’s natural larder. With a multitude of extraordinary landscapes, Greece is a magical Mediterranean walking experience.

Greece’s islands are scattered like jewels in the Aegean Sea and each has its own personality, mythology and beautiful landscape. Hike from  Coast to Coast in Crete  to walk through dramatic landscapes, finishing up in a secluded slice of paradise. Get island hopping with hikes on  Naxos and Santorini , or discover the little jewels of  Poros and Hydra  after paying a visit to the incredible Athens.

This tour will take you from the fertile green agricultural area of Apokoronas via the White Mountains to the astonishing south coast with its famous gorges. You start in Vamos , a traditional village east of Chania . Meet the locals of this village in the “kafeneion” and drink a “raki” with them after gazing the regio from 1300 meters.

Level 3: Walking levels: Moderate day walks are interspersed with more strenuous excursions, 4-6 hours per day (excluding breaks) on hilly to mountainous areas using well kept, sometimes stony paths. Cycling levels: Biking in hilly areas for the fit and frequent cyclist. The daily distances vary between 35 and 65 km. but you will encounter some steep or extended climbs up to 500m. You will need a bicycle with at least 21 gears

Comfort level 3:

Good hotels, inns, B&B, agriturismo (farmstead) with ensuite bathroom, often well located and serving good meals.

In this one week holiday the Menalon Trail is covered in 6 daily walks. Through the dramatic Lousios gorge , with a handful of impressive monasteries built on its cliffs, you reach Dimitsana . Dense forests surround you on the stretch via Zygovisti , across the mountain pass Bilani to the remote village of Elati .

S-cape Travel is a Spanish  travel agency and tour operator  based in The Picos de Europa,  specialist  in organizing  self-guided walking and cycling  programs all over Europe, including Portugal. S-cape Travel believes that the best way to experience the  nature  and  cultural heritage  of each region is to travel by bike or on foot. Since the early nineties, S-cape Travel has been designing and organizing  tours in France, Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal, for  active and involved cosmopolites  who want to experience some of Europe’s finest countryside in a different way: body and soul and at their own pace.  They take care  of hotel reservations, luggage transports and local transfers, and provided very detailed route notes, maps and GPS tracks. The  Rota Vicentina  is already one of their best-selling tours, available as a  self-guided tour  for independent travellers (standard itinerary) or as a  group tour  (tailor made itineraries on request).
