The show was epic and totally rocked! It was a hairy mess getting into and out of there, but well worth it. It felt so great to be there, like being part of something important. Seeing something that will be talked about for decades and hopefully broke down some barriers between cultures. RHCP was spreading love and understanding and put on a fantastic show, which they also transmitted live to the world (which I think is unbelievably generous for a band of their stature to send out for free to everyone on the planet with an internet connection)! I’ve been a long time fan but haven’t seen them since 1992 at Lollapalooza in Michigan. Honestly, the band played better than ever matching or bettering the albums. Anthony’s voice was absolutely perfect. Chads drumming perfect, Fleas bass was stellar and energetic. Joshs guitar tones were so very interesting I’ve spent hours since looking up on the internet all of his eqpt. My wife and I will never forget the show and cant wait to see them again. Oh yeah, the merch tables ran out of shirts so we bought some online. -Merk

On June 22, 2017 the Red Hot Chili Peppers played the First Ontario Center in Hamilton, Canada. The Chilies are Rock and Roll Hall of Famers and they deliver every time. The same cannot be said for the opening acts.

Jack Irons came out first and played a non-offensive drum and synthesizer set. It was very yawn worthy.

This was followed by Deerhoof. If you have never seen this four person band, your not missing anything. Their music is heavy on drums and guitar, who are both pretty good, but the vocals are terrible. The vocals remind me something Yoko Ono would have come up with in a drug induced haze. I have seen countless musical acts and I can say without a doubt Deerhoof is the worst ever. I actually got up a left the show for 30 minutes to escape the assault on my ears.

If your going to see the Chili Peppers and you have seats, grab a few more beers and save your ears from the opening acts. These opening acts drained the energy from arena and the Red Hot Chili Peppers would be better served to either find new opening acts or skipping opening acts all together and simply playing their set. The RHCP always deliver, but the opening acts failed.

Really good concert! There some really great lights that hang from the ceiling and move up and down, as well as change colors depending on the mood of the song. I actually read somewhere that there's about 800 lights-the biggest in any tour ever. The visuals on the big screen behind the chili peppers are really cool too-basically the visuals are outstanding. Now on to what really matters; the music. The chili peppers (as you may have expected) deliver really high energy and fun songs through the concert, from old hits like "suck my kiss" to newer songs like"dark necessities" the concert was really great and it seemed everyone had a good time. Highly recommend!

Red Hot Chili Peppers Announce 2023 North America Tour With Six Different Openers

Red Hot Chili Peppers had an outstanding 2022 releasing a pair of studio albums and they'll carry over that momentum to 2023, announcing a new batch of shows in both North America and the U.K. and Europe.

The group just added 23 more shows to their touring schedule, starting this spring with a March 29 performance in Vancouver and concluding May 25 in Houston. After that, they'll cross the pond for shows in June and July in Europe and the U.K.

In addition, it should be noted that a wide array of acts will be joining Red Hot Chili Peppers on the newly announced shows, with The Strokes , Iggy Pop , The Roots , The Mars Volta , St. Vincent , City and Colour, Thundercat and King Princess all appearing on select bills throughout the North American and U.K. and European run. It should also be noted that one of the shows in Glasgow that was scheduled for this past summer will now take place on July 23 at Hampden Park Stadium. Existing tickets will remain valid for the new date.

As for the newly announced shows, tickets will go on sale starting this Friday (Dec. 9) at 10AM local time via the Red Hot Chili Peppers website .

The Red Hot Chili Peppers will be supporting their two new albums, Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen , both of which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 earlier this year.

Red Hot Chili Peppers announce dates for upcoming world tour in delightfully offbeat video: Watch

Portrait of Edward Segarra

Take (them) to the place (they) love. Past successes aside, alternative rock band  Red Hot Chili Peppers are looking to the future with the announcement of an upcoming world tour.

The band released a video in September, which featured the Peppers in a spoof newscast titled KHOT News.

“In breaking news, the news is broken,” said KHOT anchor Johnson Hammerswaddle, played by lead vocalist Anthony Kiedis.

During the newscast, RHCP guitarist John Frusciante was brought on as a guest. Frusciante revealed the tour when asked about future live performances by KHOT anchor Todd the Squirrel, played by bassist Michael “Flea” Balzary. Upon hearing the news, Todd and Hammerswaddle erupted into raucous cheer inside the KHOT newsroom.

Frusciante confirmed the tour will commence in June and have a U.S. leg that kicks off in July. The tour marks Frusciante’s first outing with the band since he rejoined the Peppers in 2019 .

The band announced the exact locations and tour dates of the upcoming journey in another news-themed video on Oct. 7.

The North American leg of the tour includes 18 shows in the states and one show in Canada. Other artists that will perform with the "Californication" band include A$AP Rocky, Anderson .Paak and The Free Nationals, Beck, HAIM and Thundercat.

Tickets go on sale for the general public Oct. 15.

The band’s tour announcement coincided with the 30th anniversary of its fifth album “Blood Sugar Sex Magik.” Released in 1991, the album was a commercial breakthrough for RHCP, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 the following year and selling 7 million copies in the U.S. to date, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. The album also produced the Billboard Hot 100 hit “Under the Bridge.”

“I remember walking down my street in the Hills and cars driving by and hearing our songs coming out of the radio,” Kiedis told the Los Angeles Times in an oral history on the album’s impact published Thursday.

Many of the album’s lyrical themes drew from a frank portrayal of sex , something which the band never shied away from.

“The Red Hot Chili Peppers were always proud of love and human sexuality, and we wanted to celebrate that from the very beginning without being in any way analytical or trying to be correct or incorrect,” Kiedis told the Los Angeles Times. “We just wanted to show that there’s a beautiful relationship to human sexual energy and music and dancing and having fun and feeling free and being a kid."

Despite the praise the album has received over the years – Rolling Stone highlighted it as one of the greatest albums of all time more than a decade after its release – RHCP is ready to forge ahead, “bursting with commitment and purpose.”

“They have no interest in resting on past accolades, awards or commercial success,” the press release states. “This is a mission. They intend to channel the most mighty spirits and give everything they’ve got.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers Announce 2022 Stadium Tour Plans With Wacky News Broadcast

By Daniel Kreps

Daniel Kreps

On the same day Blood Sugar Sex Magick celebrates its 30th birthday , the Red Hot Chili Peppers revealed that they will embark on a global stadium tour in 2022.

The band made the announcement in a faux-news broadcast, with co-anchors Johnson Hammerswaddle (or Anthony Kiedis) and Todd the Squirrel (Flea) alerting viewers of KHOT News about the band’s plans, but not before giving a rundown of the day’s news.

“Half of humanity will boil alive by next Thursday, and there’s a new chicken sandwich coming out,” Todd the Squirrel said before kicking it over to weatherman Randy Raindrops (Chad Smith).

Guitarist John Frusciante — as himself — then joined the broadcast to reveal, “We’re gonna do a tour starting in June 2022”; the U.S. leg will kick off in July.

The trek will mark the band’s first in 15 years with Frusciante, who reunited with the band back in December 2019 following a 10-year absence. As Live Nation noted in a press release that accompanied the announcement, “All the tour dates, sales information, support acts and other factoids will be available shortly.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers last performed live together at a benefit show in November 2019, a gig that was guitarist Josh Klinghoffer’s final concert with the band .

The tour kicks off in Europe at Estadio La Cartuja in Seville, Spain on June 4th and runs through mid-July before a 19-date trek through North America. Tickets go on sale October 15th, with a RHCP fan presale beginning on October 9th. Guests in North America include the Strokes, Beck, HAIM, St. Vincent, Thundercat, and King Princess.

Red Hot Chili Peppers bring the hits to Bonnaroo and tell the Manchester crowd to meet them at Waffle House later

Portrait of Melonee Hurt

After making an impromptu stop to jam at a honky-tonk on Broadway in downtown Nashville Friday night, Red Hot Chili Peppers' drummer Chad Smith joined the rest of his bandmates to light up the What Stage at Bonnaroo Saturday night.

Chili Peppers', singer Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, guitarist John Frusciante and Smith, took the stage at 10:45 p.m. Saturday night and rolled through crowd favorites as well as some newer material until after midnight.

After a cinematic pre-recorded intro, the four bandmates launched into a jam and then dropped right into the all-too familiar riff of "Can't Stop." Flea, dressed in a very L.A. Lakers-themed purple man skirt with one purple and one yellow sock, told the crowd the band was grateful to be at Bonnaroo and then proceeded to steal the show with his thumping bass licks.

Kiedis, who was wearing an orthopedic boot on his left foot with a knee brace on the other leg, certainly didn't have any issues with his vocals, which sounded as good as they ever did. He kept the small talk to a minimum and allowed the band to get down to business. He did, however, invite the crowd to join them for "a little after party at the Waffle House in Manchester," if anyone wanted to join them later.

Massive video screens showed scenes of the band often blurred by trippy graphics and special effects.

Bonnaroo's hot moments Saturday: Jon Batiste, Reneé Rapp, Cage the Elephant

The show was everything fans wanted including hits "Californication," "Under the Bridge," "Snow" and "Give It Away." Well, almost everything. Some fans might have missed hits such as "Scar Tissue," "Dani California," and "Otherside," which were eliminated from the night's setlist.

There was no unnecessary bells and whistles. No drum solo. No political speeches. No special guests. Just the funky, bass-driven grooves laced with 80s California surf culture vibes.

After a short intermission, Kiedis returned to the stage in a white cowboy hat and the band rolled through hits "Under the Bridge" and "Give it Away."

As the band left the stage, Smith stepped from behind the drum kit and walked up to the mic, saying "Thank you so much for coming tonight. We love you all so much."

It was a great way to cap off the festival's biggest night.
