A kitesurf safari is a private yacht trip in search for the best winds that are stable and even. This is an amazing adventure for anyone who is bored with traditional, stationary spots. This exclusive floating hotel will allow you to see in 7 days what you will notnever see in a normal hotel. The high standard of the yacht, delicious food, experienced and qualified instructors, and a great atmosphere are a guarantee that the kite safari will be your unforgettable adventure.

Traveling alone, as a couple, with friends or family, it’s up to you! Kitesafari is both for beginners or intermediates who want to complete a previously started kitesurfing course and sharpen their skills, and for professionals, enthusiasts who do not like to ride only in one place. Regardless of whether you are just starting to learn or you are already riding independently, we will help you achieve your goal and make quick progress. In addition, people who only want to accompany a kitesurfer can join usand have a great adventure crossing the Red Sea together and using other amenities.

What does the YACHT look like?

For 7 days you will be accommodated in a 36-meter luxury yacht. Inside, you will find a large living room with a TV, an air-conditioned dining room and a bar. The cabins are spacious and each has a self-controlled air conditioning, a refrigerator, and a bathroom with a shower. We have Double Cabins with queen size bedorTwin Bed Cabinswith two separate beds. Boats are equipped with silent generators, so that people in the nearest cabins can sleep well. There is plenty of space to relax or sunbathe outside. The boat crew is trained to organize kite and diving safaris and are at the disposal of their guests.

1 Day: ARRIVAL AT HURGHADA AIRPORT Our representatives will be waiting for you at the airport, provide you with detailed information, and then transfer to Marina – boarding begins at 18:00. In the event of an early arrival you can ride with our team at some of the local spots or relax in one of the cafes in Marina.

Once you are on the boat, a delicious lunch will be waiting for you and it will be a great opportunity to meet other participants of your week-long adventure.

2 – 6 Days: The boat will sail north of the Red Sea in the morning for a 6-day cruise. You decide how much youride, what you do and how you use that time. Everyother day we are by different islands. Lots of activities are available: swimming, snorkeling or you can just bask in the sun until sunset. We definitely have additional activities in case of lack of wind, among others SUPboarding and wakeboarding, diving. In between, we serve delicious meals from a great chef, and in the evening we communicate, grill, dance, sing, and play various games.

Day 7 – Heading back to Hurghada by the end of the day

Returning to Hurghada harbor by 6 p.m. On the last day, we return to the port in the morning. In the morning it’s time for our final breakfast before we take everyone to the airport. Shopping souvenirs, visiting local restaurants, city tours and getting to know some Egyptian culture, customs and traditions are available on request. We can also organize a longer stay in a hotel or apartment and additional trainingon one of our kitesurfing spots.

The payment schedule is as follows: • an advance payment of 30% of the value of the Event within 3 days of booking, • surcharge to the full price no later than 30 days before the commencement of the Event; • when registering 30 days or less before the date of the Event commencement, payment of the full price of the Event at the latest within 3 days of booking the Kitesafari.

A kite safari in Egypt is a fantastic week on a comfortable yacht away from noisy crowds. Only wind, waves, and sandy beaches on uninhabited islands. For beginners, this is a great excuse to take training from experienced instructors and learn a new, exciting sports hobby. For experienced kiters, it is the perfect opportunity to ride the waves without limits.

There are spacious double cabins with air conditioning and all the conveniences, and a cozy outdoor lounge area with sun loungers and Jacuzzis. Enjoy gourmet local and European cuisine, fresh pastries and fruit, plenty of seafood, and soft drinks - all of which are included in the price of the kite safari.

Get kitesurfing training for beginners and those looking to brush up on their skills. On board, you will be greeted by experienced instructors, all of whom have international IKO and VDWS certifications. Would you like to get to know the kite better? Learn new tricks? In addition to kiting, other water activities are available on board, such as snorkeling, riding on inflatable banana and fishing. Lyra is a 47-m (154-ft) elegant and spacious steel yacht that was built in 2021. It was made with high-quality materials, and has cozy interior and cabin lighting and impeccable on-board service.

This is, without exaggeration, one of the best safari yachts in the Red Sea. The steel 47-m (154-ft) beauty offers 15 cozy double cabins with a bathroom, air conditioning, safe deposit box, and mini fridge. There is a restaurant on the main deck, there is a cozy lounge area on the upper deck, and there is a comfortable lounge area with sun loungers, a bar, and a Jacuzzi for 8 people on the sun deck.

The cozy restaurant on the main deck serves gourmet local and European cuisine daily, as well as fresh pastries, fruit, delicious snacks, and seafood.Three meals a day, snacks, and soft drinks are included in the tour price.

If you need vegetarian meals or meals for special dietary needs, please request them in advance when booking, and the on-board chef can prepare these for you.

Kite with people with similar taste in recreation, and get together in the evening to watch a video of the day.

If there is no wind, or if you are looking to take a break between kite sets, there are board games, snorkeling equipment, fishing equipment, inflatable banana on board.

Parties, grilling meat and seafood, and other exciting activities await you every evening on the yacht’s deck.

The Lyra is fully equipped and meets high safety standards. There is a fire alarm and extinguishing system on board, life jackets, a first-aid kit, and an oxygen unit. The crew of the yacht is confident in first-aid skills.

Two zodiacs (inflatable boats) will ensure safety during the kite set, and will take you back to the island if you were unable to return to shore on your own for some reason.

Kiting in the Red Sea is a great reason to put everything on pause and get the most out of your vacation so you can return home tanned and recharged. For this purpose, 7 days in good company are enough. However, there is one point to mention: kiting is addictive. You will want to return to Egypt again and again!

When you arrive at the Hurghada airport, a representative of the team will meet you and transfer you to the yacht in comfort. Then you will check in into your cabin and get to know like-minded people during dinner. The yacht stays in the port the first night.

In the early morning, the yacht leaves the port. We will go to the first kite area, and enjoy breakfast. Instructors will give a briefing and introductory theory for beginners. In the morning we will arrive at the island, which will be our training and kiteboarding spot. After the yacht is anchored, we will go to the island for the first kite set. Then we'll break off for a delicious lunch and kite again until sunset. After dinner, we conduct a debriefing on the previous day in the company of instructors.

Kitesurfing throughout the week, as well as water activities, snorkeling, grilling meat and seafood, and other exciting activities on the yacht's deck. In the evening, you can get together in a cozy indoor lounge on the upper deck to watch videos and have fun. If you wish, you can chill in the bar or in the Jacuzzi, or have a party on the island. On the last day, a kite set is scheduled in the morning, and then the yacht will sail back to the port.

Saturday is our last day on the yacht. After breakfast, we will transfer you to the airport in time for your flight departure.

To ensure that you get the most pleasure and comfort out of this amazing trip, do not forget to bring some important things on board:

• Short 2-3 mm wetsuit or rash guard: For a comfortable time in the sea water and in the wind
• Neoprene water boots: To protect your feet from corals and other underwater life that you could step on accidentally
• Several board shorts and Lycra with long sleeves: For the convenience of riding and a variety of beautiful photos
• High-quality Aquapac: To be able to take electronic devices with you
• Waterproof sunscreen with a high SPF: To prevent sunburn and for a beautiful, smooth tan
• Sunglasses with a special elastic band and a “float”: For reliable eye protection from the bright sun
• Personal medication you may need: there is a first-aid kit on the yacht

To choose the right size for your kite, you need to take 2 criteria into account: your weight and the strength of the wind. Briefly, the relationship between them can be expressed as follows:

• Weight: Heavy weight = large kite, light weight = small kite
• Wind: Strong wind = small kite, light wind = large kite

The wind force and the rider’s weight should always be considered in relation to one another.

The most versatile kite in the world is 12 sq. m. Depending on the strength of the wind and your experience, for a weight of 60-70 kg (132-154 lbs.), it is recommended to take the 11-12 and 7-8 sizes. For 70-80 kg (154-176 lbs.) it should be the 13-14 and 9-10 sizes, and for 80-100 kg (176-220 lbs.), it should be the 15-16 and 10-11 kite sizes.

The following factors should be considered:

• Rider’s level: The higher your level is, the higher the range of kite you can use, and vice versa.
• Rider’s weight: The higher your weight is, the higher the range of kite you can use, and vice versa.
• Board size and displacement: The larger the board, the lower the wind range of the kite is, and vice versa.

Unlike experienced riders, beginners should take a smaller kite. Generally, consider the following: if you use a kite whose size is not large enough for a given wind, it will be inconvenient when starting from the water and going upwind. If the kite is too large, you can lose control of it, and that is unsafe. Since the wind often changes, it makes sense for experienced kiteboarders to purchase 2-3 kites with a difference of 3-5 sq. m for different wind conditions – they will cover up to 90% of the range of existing winds.

For beginners and those who wish to brush up on their skills, we provide kitesurfing training. We have experienced instructors for all levels, and all of them have IKO and VDWS international certifications. You can choose the right one based on your goals. Would you like to get to know the kite? Learn new tricks? Try foilboarding? Whatever you dream of, our instructors will help you make it happen. To receive training, the minimum age is 7-8 years old, and the weight must not be less than 35-40 kg (77-88 lbs.). You can receive training in Russian, Ukrainian, and English.

An introductory course is essential for beginners. It introduces the kite and how it works with the power of water and wind, and gives the basics of safety. Practical lessons in shallow water teach you how to operate the kite, launch and land it, start from the water, and move against the wind. The result will be that you will be confident enough to have a really good time kitesurfing.

• Group lessons: 500 € (2-4 people in a group)
• Individual lessons: 600 €
• Hourly lessons: 80 € per hour

The complete course expands the basic knowledge of kite and kitesurfing and helps you to work on those moments in kitesurfing you are not good at. This course will help you grow and develop in kitesurfing confidently and safely.

Our rental fleet of kites, boards, and additional accessories will allow you to ride as efficiently and safely as possible. Equipment can be rented as a set or separately.

You can kitesurf in Egypt year-round. This is good news for those who like to “fly” on a kite. But each season is different.

• May to October is the best season for kiting. The air temperature is 27-32 C (81-90 F), and the water temperature is 28-31 C (82-89 F).
• In November to February, the air temperature is about 10-21 C (50-70 F), but rain is very likely. This weather is not very suitable for kiting.
• The rainiest month is January. However, even in winter, less precipitation falls on the Red Sea.

The perfect weather conditions for kiting are wind that is calm but strong enough, and warm water. Each year is different from the previous one, and it is impossible to predict the weather conditions in advance. Nevertheless, we advise you to plan a kite safari in Egypt between April and October.

The Lyra liveaboard: your home for kite safaris

KiteSafari in the Red Sea in Egypt takes place on the luxurious 47m yacht Lyra with four decks.

For guests on board there are 15 double cabins with:

• separate bathroom;
• air conditioner;

The gourmet restaurant is located on the main deck. The menu is presented with dishes of European and Egyptian cuisine. A lounge zone with DVD is located on the upper deck. You can relax in a sun lounger or in a jacuzzi after kiting on the sun deck.

Safety on a kite safari.

It is safe to go kiteboarding on the waves of the Red Sea. On board there are:

• first aid kit;
• life jackets;
• fire safety system;
• two inflatable boats zodiacs – speedboats;
• oxygen installations.

The yacht’s crew is skilled in first aid. During kiteboarding, motorboat instructors monitor safety and are ready to help at any time.

Kite tour program in Egypt

Active rest kite safari in Egypt is designed for a week.

• At the Hurghada airport, travelers are met by a team agent and taken to the yacht. Tourists settle down and, over a joint dinner in the port, get to know other participants in a kite safari in the Red Sea.
• Out to sea. The yacht is anchored near the island, which will turn into a training spot. Briefing and first kiteboarding lessons are held. In the evening, debriefing for the day.
• From 3 to 7 days of a kite tour in Egypt, extreme enthusiasts will have a rich program. Daily kiteboarding, water activities, snorkeling. Fishing, barbecues and entertainment on the yacht deck or on the islands. You can spend time in the bar or jacuzzi. At the end of the day, in the cozy saloon of the yacht, you can relax while watching a video, or spend the evening actively at a party organized on the deck of the yacht or on the shore of the island.
• On day 8, the extreme yacht tour in Egypt comes to an end. After breakfast, tourists are taken to the airport.

When participating in a kite safari in the Red Sea, it is worth considering the costs for:

Saturday  You will be arriving HOT! Our driver is waiting for you with a pink TWTS sign, you might meet some of your new kite buddies right away! We are welcome at the boat from 4 PM. In case you arrive earlier, we’ll store your luggage on deck and show you some nice restaurants around the corner. We have a chilled drink waiting for you on arrival. 8 PM our first dinner! So many new faces, luckily there is good food to start with ;) We stay in the marina this evening. Feel free to look around!

Sunday The adventure begins! While you are still sleeping, the boat departs the marina with sunrise. While we are having breakfast, the boat docks at our first spot. After a briefing & introductions, we are ready to rock! 10 AM – first session 1 PM – lunch time 2 PM – small nap & coffee 3 PM – kite till sunset 6 PM – have a nice drink on the beach while packing up your gear. 8 PM – dinner! (with desserts)

Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday Let’s check some more spots! After our spot briefing, it’s time to discover! How you found your favorite place yet? Kiting from 6 AM to 6 PM – all day – every day We try to do a nice downwinder (Advanced) on our way to the next spot.

Friday  If we still have the power, we wake up for 1 last sunrise session at our favorite spot. We can still kite from 6 AM to 3 PM this day. Let’s consolidate your new tricks! Around 3 PM we start heading back to the marina. Our last dinner is on the boat. After packing up your gear & bags, it’s time for a gooooooood-bye party! We’ll go for a dance at one of Hurghada’s clubs & dance away the sore muscles ;)

Our luxury yacht is waiting for us in the Hurghada Marina, close to Hurghada Airport. Quick flights to and from many different cities in Europe. We will be cruising the Red Sea for one week, finding all the pretty spots, the best wind & amazingly blue waters.

The Red Sea is known for it’s warm, clear waters, while blowing steady winds year round. With 80% chance of 15 to 25 knots each day, we are looking forward to a week full of sessions.

We will be kiting from sunrise to sunset, riding the prettiests lagoons & secret spots.

The windy is blowing year round on the Red Sea, with a peak in May to October .

Expect daily winds in the morning & afternoon, from light sessions to 30 knots. Egypt can be considered a freestyle heaven with it’s many shallow lagoons, warm waters & steady winds.

Wind stats for June to October is 80% chance of wind.

Advised kite sizes go from 7m to 15m, depending on your level and style.

We will be checking different spots and lagoons during this kitesurf Safari, but they all have flat, warm water & all the space to play around and progress. 

Chill at a desert island , nap at the comfortable boat while keeping an eye on your friends who are shredding it, go snorkling or just eat-sleep-kite-repeat. 

Lessons start in shallow waters. We have boat surveillance  for all and easy learning & progression conditions.

Sun, sea, salt It’s hot, warm & salty this week and you will love it! Pack your sunscreen (50+), zinc, lyra & swim suit, because that’s about all you will be wearing this week.

The water is about 30 degrees, the air temperature about the same.  You can bring a 2mm shorty for sunset sessions if you get cold quickly, but thicker will probably be too hot. 

Sunglasses, hats & leggings are often needed too, as we will be in the sun a lot. Soak up the sun and you will be completely relaxed and tanned after a week of kiting in Egypt.

KITE CLINICS WITH YOURI ZOON

The trip of a lifetime, 1650€ for 8 days on a luxury motor yacht. 1000€ with no pro kite clinics included,    30th march – 6th april  – max 6 spots.

Youri Zoon needs no introduction. One of the best rider of all time, he is now fully dedicated to kite camps and coaching all over the world. His kite clinics are oriented to small groups and to intermediate and advanced riders only , riders that know what they want and where to progress, from simple jumping or a perfect riding technique to advanced freestyle manoeuvres and big airs.

On this kite cruise, he will focus on a max number of 6 kiters – every kiter is different, with different needs and different progression in mind, that’s why every one will be trained on a One on One session with Youri, with live directions using the BBtalking system to Kite Video Analysis to help you make it right.

KITE CLINICS – THE PROGRAM

SATURDAY : Arrival day on the boat, meeting with Youri and the team & introduction to the kite clinic and to the kite cruise. We will sit down and figure out everyone goals for the week.

SUNDAY : Warm up session, in order to evaluate every riders skills and needs. We will have a professional photographer and videomaker at all time on the cruise, this will be the key to our with video analysis, that will be done in the morning before breakfast or in the evening right after dinner.

MONDAY : We will be riding all day, with a break for lunch on board, and put in practice what we started learning.

TUESDAY : Free ride session right before breakfast, followed by video analysis of the day before and more kiting. Tuesday we will go deeper in each riders needs.

WEDNESDAY : We will focus in the morning in how to ride downwind, in preparation for our downwinder on thursday. The rest of the day we will continue with our Kite Clinic Program.

THURSDAY : Downwinder day, followed by a last afternoon session. In the evening we will talk about results achieved and discuss future progressions individually.

FRIDAY : Free Kiting Day. The boat will be back at port in the afternoon. Night out in town for a drink and dinner.

SATURDAY : Time to say good bye and see you next time!

While we expect good wind conditions in the Red Sea, in case of poor wind, we will have other activity planned for that specific day: wingfoiling, stand up paddle board, wakeboarding and snorkeling. 

We will be cruising in style, with one of our favorite boat –  New Regency. This luxury motor yacht hosts up to 22 kiters and 2 extra kite guides, so it has plenty of space for every one. There is a cozy restaurant and a chef ready to cook 3 meals per day, a main lounge with TV and DVD, a sun deck, a second main deck with a small bar for a well deserved drinks at sunset, and a deck for gear set up.  All cabins have air-condition, comfortable beds, and a private toilet with shower. This boat and its crew have tons of experience in kite safaris, and of course I will be personally on board, as a kite tour leader – we organize Kite cruises in Egypt since 2015, and we know the sea and its kite spots.

Air's Moon Safari is an era-defining French album worth celebrating, 25 years on

There's no telling how many special moments have been soundtracked by Moon Safari, the acclaimed 1998 debut album from French duo Air.

An era-defining record of pristine, space-age lounge music delivered with cinematic atmosphere and a distinctively French je ne se quios , Moon Safari was a universal critical and commercial success upon release.

The lush easy-listening music was perfectly suited to post-club comedowns, hip cafes, and make-out sessions: smooth and dreamy enough to be played in the background, but singular and masterfully crafted enough to reward close listening.

It proved highly influential, too. But the wave of mellow, down tempo imitators and 'chill out' CD compilations it spawned struggled to surpass Air's chic, exquisitely woozy beauty.

'It was not meant to be played live'

Jean-Benoît Dunckel, one half of Air alongside Nicolas Godin, never expected Moon Safari's enduring success.

"We never imagined this album could work that way worldwide," he tells Karen Leng on Double J Lunch. 

"It took time, it took decades, [but] the success is not by us, the audience made [it]."

This year, the duo has been playing Moon Safari in full around the world on their first tour in seven years, including Australia.

"It was not made to be played live," says Dunckel. 

"We had to adapt it for the live [setting]. That is what the people want to get — this special feeling they heard the first time… to live again these feelings."

Having played two nights at the Sydney Opera House as part of Vivid Live , Air will live-stream their show at London's Royal Albert Hall this weekend.

"It's a beautiful venue," says Dunckel, who is keen to preserve a pristine performance of the album online for future access.

"It's really important to do that because… people can also discover the band live. Some people appreciate the live versions more than the recorded versions."

Performing as a trio, alongside drummer Louis Delorme, Air play inside an oblong box adorned with dazzling lights and visuals, which morph from swathes of minimalist colour to the perspective of a spaceship enjoying interstellar travel.

"We play in a box of light. It looks a bit like the studio on the cover of 10 000 Hz Legend," says Dunckel, referencing the band's second studio album — a weirder, wilder reaction to Moon Safari.

"It could be a home, it could be our world, our head, our architectural concept. It helps for people to enter into a world… people like [that] intimacy."

Dunckel says people often ask: "Are you not bored to play these songs you play for 20 years now?"

"Sometimes I struggle — because you have to concentrate, and you have to play. But I'm never bored. It's always a pleasure."

Moon Safari is a product of its era, but it's also aged beautifully.

It's an evocative listening experience, from the moment lengthy opener 'La femme d'argent' ushers you in with the sounds of water and slinky bassline, through to the weightless pop and robot-voiced melodies of 'Kelly Watch The Stars' and 'New Star in the Sky'.

In 1998, its retro-futuristic arrangements already sounded timeless. 25 years later, its ability to transport your mind and imagination elsewhere hasn't dated one iota.

"It could be a journey, a love story," remarks Dunckel. "That's why we're really attached to it. I think the audience is searching for that, too.

"It helps human relationships in every way," adds Dunckel. Over the years, Air fans have shared "so many stories" of what the album means to them.

"Most of the time it's for love. It's always, 'I met my girlfriend or wife this time'."

Back in 1998, Dunckel told triple j that while hiking in Iceland, his guide revealed Moon Safari was his love-making soundtrack.

There's "probably" plenty of babies in the world with some of the album's DNA in them since, Dunckel estimates of a new generation discovering Air for the first time.

"As we are getting old now, it's becoming that people say, 'oh yeah, my parents were listening to Moon Safari when we were travelling in a car; this family time'."

Sexy Boy, the surprising queer anthem

For many, debut single 'Sexy Boy' was their first introduction to Air. A seductive slice of synth-pop that brought vocoder back to the pop charts and sung in both French and English.

It's a seemingly simple song but Dunckel notes there's "a lot of tolerance and freedom" embedded in it.

"Sexy Boy, first of all, is a strange title because it breaks a certain taboo. The taboo is that heterosexual boys can check out other boys," he explains.

"Also, it became a gay slogan in a way. A gay anthem."

The song took on a new meaning in late 90s Paris when the electronic music scene's wider acceptance of the LGTBQI+ community led to more club and techno nights dedicated to queer punters and DJs emerging.

"There was a lot of gay parties," says Dunckel. "Homosexuality is everywhere in the world, and it's always existed, always there. So, it was important to liberate this movement."

Originally, the song's titular phrase was inspired by Parisian fashion culture.

"People are checking each other out all the time… In Paris, when a couple is meeting another couple, the girl is not going to check out the boy. She's going to check out the other girl: analyse what she wears, how she behaves, what is the fashion or type of the boyfriend.

"Sexy Boy is speaking about that. The fact a man wants to be a pretty man and he is checking [out] other boys."

A popular soundtrack choice, featured in teen rom-com 10 Things I Hate About You and noughties TV drama Queer As Folk, 'Sexy Boy' is also a testament to youth.

The French verses are "celebrating that golden age of being young," Dunckel explains.

"When you're young you don't realise you're at the top of your life. You have a lot of power, actually… because you're beautiful. Your skin, hair, you feel great, you have a lot of energy."

The makings of a classic

Despite its iconic status, Moon Safari was actually the last roll of the dice for Dunckel and Godin.

Raised in the conservative suburb of Versailles, the pair began making music together after meeting at school. But after having their demo tapes rejected by every record label they approached, they quit music and instead focused on their studies.

Each had established careers — Godin in architecture, Dunckel in mathematics — when an opportunity presented itself in a close friend landing a role with Virgin Records imprint Source.

They landed a deal with the label but ditching their jobs for a full-time career in music to support their burgeoning families was a gamble.

"We were 26 years old. We were not sure we come be musicians for the rest of our life," remembers Dunckel. "I was already working [as] a physics teacher… I had a baby."

Thankfully, their risk was rewarded when their debut album became a breakout international hit. Air was swiftly lumped alongside a fresh wave of Parisian artists reinventing the electronic music scene in the late 90s.

Dubbed French touch, the movement included Cassius, St. Germain, Étienne de Crécy, and Daft Punk, who recorded their breakout 1997 album Homework down the street from where Air made Moon Safari.

"There was a kind of energy circulating all over Paris," recalls Dunckel. "Paris is kind of small; all the media, artists and business part of it [were] working all together."

The worlds of music, fashion, contemporary art, cinema — "everything was mixed," Dunckel says.

"At this time, new generations of young people coming from the suburbs are even inside Paris and mixing all these rich, futuristic concepts together with new machines, samplers, computer programs to make music."

A fond farewell to youth

Despite being poster boys for the future of French music, Moon Safari was an evocative, nostalgia-drenched ode to Dunckel and Godin's past.

"In a way it was the end of my youth… That's why the songs [on Moon Safari], there are a lot of regrets and it's a goodbye to our youth and the innocence of it.

"It's full of vibrations from teenage times."

Although labelled an electronic act, Air's music wasn't rooted in beats and house music. Instead, they armed themselves with analogue Moog and Korg synthesizers, vintage drum machines, vocoders and the trusty Rhodes piano.

The resulting compositions bore the esprit of Serge Gainsbourg, electronic pioneers like Jean-Michel Jarre, and the 1970s film and TV soundtracks of Dunckel's childhood.

There's a fondness for the psychedelic grandeur of Pink Floyd and ELO. But also, Burt Bacharach arrangements, particularly in the wistful French horn topline of ''Ce matin là' (This morning) and the easy-going 'You Make It Easy' and 'All I Need', both featuring the lyrics and vocals of Godin's then-neighbour, Beth Hirsch.

From its lush, otherworldly sounds right down to its title, Moon Safari gives rise to cosmic ideas and conducive to escapism. That spirit is central to Air's entire ethos.

"I think music exists in paradise and you can feel this [album] is in a strange interface between our world and something else."

Such ephemeral expressions might be surprising coming from a former physics teacher, but Dunckel says "both sides of your brain help" when it comes to making emotive art.

"There is a mathematic aspect of music, that analyses and helps you perform and conceive music. But there is something else happening, your heart is talking.

"As a musician you're organising the vibrations of your heart and the feelings into music… vibrations travelling into space and air."

"When I do a song, it's all about 'what do I feel?'" Dunckel concludes.

"For me, good means it affects me. No good means I don't feel anything… if it affects me, it's going to affect others, too. They're going to feel the feelings I do, too."
