My boyfriend and I did this excursion today and it was fantastic. It was the first sunny day of our trip and we chose the best day. We rode through a frosty / snowy landscape, took a breather by a frozen lake and made our way up a mountain to be greeted by the most spectacular views of Reykjavík! Hanna was our tour leader who was patient and friendly ensuring everyone in the group was keeping up and staying safe!

The one hour tour was a good adventure with beautiful views- fun for beginners but not too boring for those wanting a little more excitement. The guides were brilliant. Do not be put off by the price, it is an excursion worth every penny. We have ridden quads before but you don’t have to be experienced as they gauge how experienced you are in a few minutes. The weather wasn’t great for us but it didn’t matter, this was the best excursion of our trip.

Your day will begin with picking you up from a bus stop downtown if you have chosen pick-up. On arriving at our basecamp we will suit you up and gear you for the weather. You will be provided with everything you need, please make sure to wear shoes according to the weather condition. Most of our guests are beginners, so we know how to provide an experience that’s as safe as it is fun. Our expert guides will make sure you have all the safety instructions you need before you start the tour. The quad bikes are fully automatic and super easy to use – you just hit the throttle and go!

Your quad bike tour takes you on a route along the lovely Lake Hafravatn, and a variety of terrains to have fun on. Then it’s onwards and upwards as you bike to the top of Hafrafell mountain – the high point of your journey. From there you should be able to see the Hengill mountain range, Iceland’s third most active volcanic system, together with Hellisheiði, the geothermal power plant for the capital area. A spectacular view over Faxaflói bay and the whole capital region, Bláfjöll mountain range and Esja, Reykjavik’s house mountain, is waiting for you. ATV tracks are dependent on weather and trail conditions.

Operation: This tour is operated by our trusted partner.

Pick-up: Hotel pickups are not included in the price of the tour. We do offer a pickup service, but you are also very welcome to make your own way to our Safari Quads Base Camp. Please note that we offer pick-up service from authorized pickup points in the Reykjavik downtown area. We can unfortunately not offer pick-up service from Airbnb or private apartments, nor Keflavik Airport for our tours. If your pick-up location is not on our pick-up list in the booking form then we kindly ask you to locate the closest pick-up point to your accommodation. It might take up to 30 min for our guides to reach your pick-up point, so please wait patiently for us to arrive. As much as possible be prepared and ready to go.

You need to be 15 minutes prior to departure time. If our guide is not there please give him 10 minutes to arrive. He might be coming from pick ups.

All drivers need to have a valid driver’s license and a minimum age of 17 years old. Our day tours are very popular and we have many days when all the available seats are booked out. Please book your tour early to avoid disappointment. You can book this tour online using the booking form or just call our office. We typically respond to phone calls from 8:00 AM to 17:00 PM GMT – if you do not reach us, please send an email and we will reply to your message as soon as possible.

Prices: All prices are per person. We accept payment by major credit and debit cards with no additional fees. Gratuities are not included.

Tour itinerary changes: At all times your safety is our first priority. You can expect any kind of weather in Iceland. For this reason, the tour itinerary may be subject to change the sights without notice or the tour might be canceled due to weather, or other unforeseen circumstances. If the timing changes, we will need your valid mobile phone number to contact you and inform you of the time change. Please don’t forget to fill out your phone number on the booking form. If the tour is canceled, you can choose to receive a full refund or to reschedule your tour for another day. We make every effort to avoid any such changes wherever possible.

What to bring: We recommend you bring warm first and/or mid-layer, e.g. a warm sweater. Bring your personal daily medications if required. It is a good idea for you to bring extra clothing on this tour, as you might get wet!

About the ATV Tour from Reykjavik

We booked the trip the day before after another excursion we’d planned to do was cancelled and after a bit of an issue at pick up (a standard car was sent for 6 people) this was quickly resolved and we arrived in good time. The Midnight Sun ATV Tour

The Midnight Sun ATV tour offers you the unique opportunity to enjoy the best views of Reykjavík at sundown. On this popular tour, you will explore the nature found just outside of Reykjavík. You’ll ride to the top of a mountain where you can enjoy picture-perfect city views. We recommend this one if you are looking for an evening activity in Reykjavík.

This tour is only available from May till the end of July!

On the outskirts of Reykjavík, you will find nature’s treasure trove, an area perfect for ATV exploration. For 2 hours, you will ride on various terrain in this area. You will drive along Lake Hafravatn and up to the top of Hafrafell mountain. There you can enjoy awe-inspiring views over Reykjavík and feel the magic of the midnight sun.

During this time of year, the skylights are ablaze with a colorful display of gold and orange just before midnight. These colors get more intense as dusk approaches. The sky illuminates for a few magic moments before the sun rises again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, a valid driver‘s license is required to operate an ATV. If you do not have such a license but are traveling with a partner who does, you can ride on the back of his/her snowmobile.

The standard version of this tour has two persons riding an ATV. This is called a double ride.

You can book the tour with the additional single rider fee (solo), which means that one person rides each ATV.

Please note that if you are traveling solo, you must book this tour with the single rider fee. Double rides are not shared with other guests on the tour.

Yes, this is a great activity for families with kids. Children 6 years and older are welcome on this tour. Children 6-16 years of age ride on the back of an ATV.

No, pickup and dropoff are not included in the tour price but you can add transfer services from Reykjavík at booking.

The transfer cost is 3,500 ISK per person.

The meeting point for this tour is at Lambhagavegur. It takes about 15 minutes to drive there from the center of Reykjavík.

Please note that you must be on location at least 15 minutes before the start of your tour.

You will spend 2 hours on the ATV’s. Allow up to 3,5 hours for the whole experience, including transfer to and from Reykjavík.

You should wear warm, comfortable clothing and good, sturdy shoes.

You will be supplied with warm overalls, gloves, balaclava and helmet.

You will be supplied with helmets and other appropriate safety equipment for the ATV tour.

The tour operator reserves the right to alter the itinerary according to weather and road conditions. If a tour is canceled due to bad weather, we will work together to either find another date for you to go on the tour (if possible) or provide you with a full refund.

Reservations can be canceled 24 hours prior to departure without penalty. Cancellations received less than 24 hours prior to departure are non-refundable.

Please be mindful of possible time zone differences. Iceland is in the GMT time zone and cancellations must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure in Icelandic local time (GMT).

Our  one hour Mountain ATV Tour  is one of our most popular quad bike tours for tourists who are taking a short break in Iceland and want to try out as many different things as possible in a limited amount of time.

The tour starts in a location about 15 minutes’ drive away from Reykjavík city center and takes customers to the top of Hafrafell Mountain, where drivers will have a spectacular view over the city and the Mount Esja.

Our  One-Hour Buggy Safari  is a great option for anyone new to Buggy driving. Over the course of an hour, drivers will take in the stunning Icelandic nature, visit Hafravatn and Mount Hafrafell, before returning to base camp.

For those who want something more challenging, our  Buggy Extra Tour  is a great option for adrenaline-junkies. What Should I Wear on My Quad Bike / Buggy Tour?

you will be given a warm overall suit, rain gear (if needed), a balaclava, helmet and gloves. However, we recommend that all customers wear warm layers underneath.

ATV and Buggy tours take place in a variety of weather conditions. During summer or sunny days, wearing overalls can get quite warm, so thin layers of active wear (T-shirts and some leggings or pants) are advised.

On cold days or during the winter months, you should wear geothermal underwear, lots of layers (wool is recommended), warm socks, thick pants and a comfortable sweater. Closed shoes are always recommended, no matter what the weather is like, as you’d never know when you’ll hit a puddle or a stream, and wet feet is the last thing you need while on your arctic adventure!!

Do I Need A Driver’s License To Drive A Buggy Or Atv?

The driver will need to have a valid driver’s license from their home country. You will sign a liability form before the tour, stating that you possess a valid driver’s license. The passenger is not required to have a driver’s license.

Do You Need A Special Motorcycle Or Scooter License?

No, you don’t need to have a specific motorcycle license, a regular driver’s license is enough to be able to join the tour.

What Is The Minimum Age To Book An Atv Or Buggy Tour?

The youngest age that someone can join a tour (as a passenger) is 6.

What Do I Need To Bring?

Proper warm clothing, your driver’s license (or a copy of it) and some closed shoes. The rest is provided! But we recommend a camera as well, as the views are spectacular! (check out our  guide to taking travel selfies )

Do The Tours Offer Pick Up Or Do I Need To Get There Myself?

You can  add a pickup to your tour  for a small extra cost and a guide will pick you up before the tour.

The pickup locations are usually set up at Reykjavík’s main hotels, hostels and bus stops. It’s possible to see the list of pick up locations when you make your online booking.

In this 3-hour Lava ATV tour your guide leads you through the lava fields to the west of Þorlákshöfn and over the Selvogsheiði mountain road. We stop by the church Strandarkirkja, which is one of the most famous churches in Iceland. We cover some off-road trails and have a look at the sea cliffs by the coast and end the tour by driving on the Black Sand Beach. Enjoy panoramic views and amazing photo opportunities in this fun filled, adventure tour.
