Entry, Exit and Visa Requirements

COVID-19 Requirements: There are no COVID-related entry requirements for U.S. citizens.

Please visit the  Embassy of Oman website  for the most current visa information.

Requirements for Entry:

  • Passport valid for at least six months

Tourist Visas:

  • U.S. citizens should apply for tourist visas in advance via the  Royal Oman Police E-Visa website . Tourist visas are also available upon arrival at airports and land crossings.
  • Visas are issued at Mazoonah and Sarfait (Oman-Yemen land borders) on a case-by-case basis.
  • The current list of visa types and a schedule of fees are available at the  Royal Oman Police website .
  • Have proof of adequate funds and an onward/return ticket.

Penalties for expired passports or visas include fines and/or imprisonment.

Avoid Travel to Yemen:  We strongly advise U.S. citizens against travel to Yemen. Crossing the Yemen-Oman border can be dangerous, and U.S. citizens who do so are routinely detained by Omani authorities. The Department of State and U.S. embassies abroad will not facilitate entry of U.S. citizens into Yemen. See Our  Travel Advisory for Yemen  for further information.

Oman does not recognize dual nationality. Omani authorities may confiscate your U.S. passport if you have Oman/U.S. dual nationality. Should this happen, contact the U.S. Embassy. This does not constitute loss of U.S. citizenship.

Children of Omani fathers automatically acquire Omani citizenship at birth and must enter and exit Oman on their Omani passports.

Omani/U.S. dual nationals are subject to all Omani laws, including those placing special obligations on citizens of Oman.

Expect considerable delays if your U.S. passport is lost or stolen. The Royal Oman Police require entry verification upon departure. If your passport containing your entry stamp is lost or stolen, a police report may be required to exit Oman using a replacement passport. For further details, see the  Royal Oman Police website .

Yellow fever vaccinations are required if you are coming from a country with yellow fever outbreaks.

Some HIV/AIDS entry restrictions exist for visitors and foreign residents of Oman. HIV/AIDS testing is required upon arrival for people on work or immigrant visas. Oman does not accept U.S. HIV/AIDS testing. Verify this information with the  Embassy of Oman  before traveling.

Customs Regulations:

  • Pornographic materials and firearms are prohibited.
  • Muslim travelers are forbidden to bring in alcohol. Oman does not require visitors to identify with a religion.
  • Non-Muslim travelers can bring in two bottles of alcohol bought at a duty-free shop.

Find information on  dual nationality ,  prevention of international child abduction  and  customs regulations  on our websites.

Safety and Security

Terrorism:  Terrorist groups and those inspired by such organizations are intent on attacking U.S. citizens abroad.  Terrorists are increasingly using less sophisticated methods of attack – including knives, firearms, and vehicles – to more effectively target crowds.  Frequently, their aim is unprotected or vulnerable targets, such as:

  • High-profile public events (sporting contests, political rallies, demonstrations, holiday events, celebratory gatherings, etc.)
  • Hotels, clubs, and restaurants frequented by tourists
  • Places of worship
  • Schools
  • Parks
  • Shopping malls and markets
  • Public transportation systems (including subways, buses, trains, and scheduled commercial flights)

For more information, see our Terrorism page.

MARAD Report:  According to the United States Maritime Administration (MARAD), U.S. flag vessels in the Gulf of Oman, North Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden, and the Bab el Mandeb regions face an elevated risk of attacks by violent extremists.

U.S. flag vessels should report suspicious activity to:

  • COMUSNAVCENT battle watch captain at 011-973-1785-3879
  • U.S. Coast Guard National Response Center at 1-800-424-8802 (toll-free), 202-267-2675, or 202-267-4477 (TDD).

Crime : There is minimal street crime in Oman, and violent crime is rare.

See the  Department of State  and the  FBI  pages for information on scams.

Victims of Crime:  U.S. citizen victims of sexual assault are encouraged to contact the U.S. Embassy for assistance. Report crimes to the local police at 9999.  Emergency hotlines are mostly Arabic-speaking.  The U.S. Embassy has received reports from U.S. citizens who were unable to receive assistance due to language barriers.  Contact the U.S. Embassy at +968 2464-3400.  Remember that local authorities are responsible for investigating and prosecuting crimes.

See our webpage on  help for U.S. victims of crime overseas .

  • Help you find appropriate medical care
  • Assist you in reporting a crime to the police
  • Contact relatives or friends with your written consent
  • Provide general information regarding the victim’s role during the local investigation and following its conclusion
  • Provide a list of local attorneys
  • Provide information on  victim’s compensation programs in the United States
  • Provide an emergency loan for repatriation to the United States and/or limited medical support in cases of destitution
  • Help you find accommodation and arrange flights home
  • Replace a stolen or lost passport

Domestic Violence:  U.S. citizen victims of domestic violence are encouraged to contact the U.S. Embassy for assistance.  The law in Oman does not specifically address domestic violence.  However, charges may be brought under other statutes.  Victims of domestic violence may file a complaint with the police, and reports indicate that police respond promptly and professionally.  The government operates a domestic violence hotline and a shelter for victims.

For additional information please see Oman’s Penal Code and our Human Rights Report for Oman .

Dial 1100 to reach the government-operated domestic violence hotline.

Tourism : The tourism industry is generally well-regulated and rules with regard to best practices and safety inspections are regularly enforced. Hazardous areas/activities are identified with appropriate signage, and professional staff is typically on hand in support of organized activities. In the event of an injury, appropriate medical treatment is widely available throughout the country. Outside of a major metropolitan center, it may take more time for first responders and medical professionals to stabilize a patient and provide life-saving assistance. U.S. citizens are encouraged to purchase medical evacuation insurance .

Local Laws & Special Circumstances

Criminal Penalties:  You are subject to local laws. If you violate local laws, even unknowingly, you may be expelled, arrested, or imprisoned.  Individuals establishing a business or practicing a profession that requires additional permits or licensing should seek information from the competent local authorities, prior to practicing or operating a business.

Furthermore, some laws are also prosecutable in the U.S., regardless of local law. For examples, see our website on  crimes against minors abroad  and the  Department of Justice website.

Arrest Notification : If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify the U.S. Embassy immediately. Omani authorities typically do not permit foreigners accused of crimes to leave the country while cases are open.

See our  webpage  for further information.

Carry your passport at all times, or you could be detained.

It is illegal to photograph certain buildings.

Alcohol and Drugs:  You may be arrested for possession of alcohol or driving under the influence. Drinking is permitted in some international hotels, bars, homes, and some restaurants.

Penalties for possession, use, or trafficking in illegal drugs include lengthy jail sentences and heavy fines.  Some prescription medications, such as narcotics, available in the United States may be illegal in Oman.  Travelers should check the Oman Ministry of Health’s Medications and Travel webpage before importing prescription medications.

Motor Vehicle Violations:  Traffic laws are strictly enforced and carry heavy penalties. Remote traffic cameras are extensively used to monitor speeding and stop light infractions.

Immigration officials, airports and other ports of entry and exit have ready access to information on traffic offenses, and violators cannot depart Oman unless all fines have been paid in full.

Personal Defamation Charges:

  • Using vulgar language or hand gestures can lead to personal defamation charges.
  • An accusation alone, regardless of who files it, can initiate a legal process.
  • U.S. citizens can usually resolve these cases with a formal apology and payment of damages to the aggrieved party.

Cultural Heritage Items:  To avoid prosecution, check first with Omani authorities before taking “cultural heritage items” such as archaeological artifacts, meteorites, or stones.

Notary Services:  All foreign public documents (Birth, Marriage, Death, Divorce, academic records, etc.) need to be apostilled for use in Oman. The U.S. Embassy in Oman cannot apostille any documents issued in the U.S. See  our website  for designated authorities in the United States. That can issue an apostille.

Employment in Oman:  Although a common practice, it is illegal for Omani employers to retain your passport. Such retention could grant undue leverage to your employer in case of a dispute. U.S. passports are the property of the U.S. government.

The U.S. Embassy cannot intervene in labor disputes. At the beginning of any employment, obtain a contract that clearly states the terms of employment. Try to resolve disputes privately with your employer. If this fails, consult our  list of lawyers .

Dress Code : Be sensitive to Islamic culture and do not wear sleeveless shirts, halter-tops, or shorts. Only wear athletic clothing in public when engaged in sports activities.

Currency : U.S. bills printed before 2006 are often not accepted. Local currency is easily available from ATMs or currency exchange counters.

Faith-Based Travelers:  See our following webpages for details:

LGBTQI+ Travelers:  Consensual same-sex sexual conduct is illegal and subject to a jail term of six months to three years. See our  LGBTQI+ Travel Information page  and section 6 of our  Human Rights report  for further details.

Travelers with Disabilities:  The law in Oman prohibits discrimination against persons with physical, intellectual, or mental disabilities   Expect accessibility to be limited in older buildings (including government buildings and schools), public transportation, and general infrastructure, and more common in newer medical facilities and public buildings in cities. Outside of urban areas, access is greatly reduced.  Handicapped parking spaces are scarce.

Omanis will generally try to accommodate reasonable requests for assistance.

Students : See our  Students Abroad  page and  FBI travel tips .

Women Travelers:   See our travel tips for  Women Travelers .

COVID-19 Testing:   For general PCR testing and exiting Oman, various health clinics in Oman offer PCR tests with results within 72 hours as well as 24-hour and 3–6-hour options.  PCR tests are at the expense of the individual/traveler.  Prices vary by clinic and range from 20 – 40 OMR; surcharges often apply for expedited result processing within 24 hours or less.  Drive up testing, walk-in tests, and tests by appointment are all available in Oman.  Test result delivery varies by clinic: e-mail, text, and physical message are commonly used to communicate results.

COVID-19 Vaccines:   The COVID-19 vaccine is available for U.S. citizens to receive in Oman. Please refer to the  Omani Ministry of Health  for additional information on vaccination registration.

Visit the FDA's website to learn more about FDA-approved vaccines in the United States.

For emergency services in Oman, dial 9999.  Emergency hotlines are mostly Arabic-speaking.  The U.S. Embassy has received reports from U.S. citizens who were unable to receive assistance due to language barriers.

Response times for ambulance services vary.  Injured or seriously ill travelers should take a taxi or private vehicle to the nearest major hospital rather than wait for an ambulance.

Modern medical facilities and Western-style pharmacies are available. Local medical treatment varies from average to inadequate, depending on location.

Hospital emergency treatment is available.

We do not pay medical bills.  Be aware that U.S. Medicare/Medicaid does not apply overseas.  Most hospitals and doctors overseas do not accept U.S. health insurance.

Medical Insurance:  Make sure your health insurance plan provides coverage overseas. Most care providers overseas only accept cash payments. See  our webpage  for more information on insurance overseas.  Visit the  U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  for more information on type of insurance you should consider before you travel overseas.

We strongly recommend supplemental insurance to cover medical evacuation.

Always carry your prescription medication in original packaging, along with your doctor’s prescription. Check with the Government of Oman to ensure the medication is legal in Oman.

Vaccinations : Be up-to-date on all  vaccinations  recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Further health information:

  • World Health Organization
  • U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

Air Quality:  Visit  AirNow Department of State  for information on air quality at U.S. Embassies and Consulates.

The U.S. Embassy maintains a  list of doctors and hospitals .  We do not endorse or recommend any specific medical provider or clinic.

Travel and Transportation

Road Conditions:  Road conditions in cities and along major highways are good. Road conditions in rural areas range from good to poor. During rare instances of rain, roads are prone to flash flooding.

Travel between cities can be dangerous due to poor lighting, wandering livestock, and speeding drivers.

Public Transportation:  Public transportation is generally safe, although vehicles may swerve to pick up passengers without warning.

Traffic Violations:

The following traffic violations may result in jail sentences, fines, and/or deportation:

  • driving without a license
  • running a red light
  • driving under the influence of alcohol
  • failure to wear a seat belt
  • talking on cell phones while driving (hands-free technology is allowed)
  • excessive speeding or overtaking another vehicle
  • failure to maintain a clean car

When involved in a traffic violation, cooperate with police officers and do not attempt to negotiate payment.

If you are involved in a traffic accident that involves injuries, death, or material damage to vehicles, do not move your vehicle until the police give you permission. Moving your car may be interpreted as an admission of guilt. For minor traffic accidents with no damage or injuries, you may move your vehicle to the side of the road.

Traffic Guidelines:

  • Traffic circles are common. The driver already in the circle always has priority.
  • Drivers flashing high beams are signaling that they want to pass.
  • Do not turn right on a red traffic signal.

Driving License Requirements:

  • Short-term visitors with a U.S. driver’s license may drive rental vehicles, but not privately registered cars.
  • Residents must have an Omani driver's license.
  • To obtain an Omani license, you must take a vision test and either have a U.S. license (with proof of being licensed for at least two years) or take a driving test.

Car Insurance:

  • Insure rental cars against death, injury, and loss or damage.

Residents may insure their vehicles outside the Sultanate; however, third party liability insurance must be purchased locally.  For all traffic-related emergencies, call the Royal Oman Police at 9999. Have an Arabic speaker call when giving directions to a location, since English-speaking operators are not always available.

See our  Road Safety page  or the  Royal Oman Police website  for further information.

Aviation Safety Oversight:  As there is no direct commercial air service to the United States by carriers registered in Oman, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not assessed the Government of Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority for compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) aviation safety standards. See the  FAA’s safety assessment page  for further information.

Maritime Travel:  Mariners planning travel to Oman should also check for  U.S. maritime advisories and alerts . Information may also be posted to the U.S. Coast Guard homeport website  and the  NGA broadcast warnings .

3 Steps on How to Apply Online for an unsponsored Oman tourist visa

Royal Oman police (ROP) has put out a three-step explainer on how one can apply for an unsponsored tourist visa to the Sultanate.

In the first step to submitting an application, one must first visit the ROP website ( www.rop.gov.om ), fill in the required form according to your travel documents, and attach the documents for your Visa.

Secondly, make your payment. “Your fees can be paid by credit card through a Global Payment Gateway. This has been officially certified by the Sultanate of Oman,” according to ROP.

Once your payment has gone through, you’ll finally “receive an email of your application”.

Travel and visas in Oman

All visitors except GCC nationals require visas. The issuing authority is the Royal Oman Police, usually referred to as ROP. According to the ROP website visitors from more than 70 ‘G1 countries’ – which include the UK, EU countries, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand – can obtain a tourist visa through the Oman eVisa service . Applicants of some other nationalities who already have a valid Schengen visa may be eligible to obtain a visa for Oman.

In 2021 Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism announced a free-of-charge 14-day tourist visa for nationals of 103 countries (which include those G1 countries) to replace the ten-day visa costing OMR5. However, since the price of the ten-day visa had been in place for many years, this might be reverted to. Other options include: OMR20 for 30 days or OMR50 for a multi-entry one-year visa; all must be paid for by credit/debit card. Visitors from New Zealand can also apply for a three-month length of stay.

Overstaying the period of the visa attracts a penalty of OMR10 per day. It is possible, though difficult, to extend the validity through the ROP at the airport. A better solution is to obtain a visa for a time period longer than you plan on staying, especially if the optimal visa is valid for only a day or two longer than your intended stay.

Oman’s entry regulations have changed several times over the past few years, so check well before travelling with the Royal Oman Police. The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office should also be consulted.

Getting there and away

Muscat International Airport, located 40km west of Old Muscat (about a 40min drive), is Oman’s main international airport and also the hub for domestic flights. Salalah Airport, in the south of the country, receives flights from other GCC countries and India, and charter flights from Europe, as well as domestic flights from Muscat. In the north, Sohar Airport   has flights from Qatar Airways and Salam Air .

Pre-pandemic, a standard direct return flight from Heathrow   (terminal 4) with Oman Air flew twice a day to Muscat, at a cost of around US$1,000. Oman Air also flew between Manchester   (terminal 2; evening only) and Muscat, with fares around US$1,100, thus enhancing Muscat’s hub status for onward flights to Asia.

Oman borders three countries, but almost all road crossings are through the United Arab Emirates, whose entire international border is fenced. It is possible to travel between the UAE and the main part of Oman (ie: south of Al Fujayrah) from four areas: Al Buraymi, with three separate border posts; Al Wajajah; Aswad, a forthcoming opening on Oman’s Route 3 for easy access to the UAE via Sharjah’s route E102; and Khitmat Milahah.

Domestic   services operate in northern Oman between Khasab in Musandam and Shinas on the northern Al Batinah coast; Khasab and Lima in Musandam; Shinas and Lima; and Lima and Dibba. In central Oman there are ferry services between Shannah on the mainland and Masirah Island. Contact National Ferries head office regarding the current domestic ferry situation.

Getting around

Within Oman there are domestic flights   from Muscat (MCT) to Khasab (KHS) in Musandam, and Salalah (SLL) in Dhofar. Oman Air also flies to Ad Duqm DQM. Check Salam Air for resumption of daily flights between Salalah and Sohar.

National Ferries operate in the Musandam area serving Khasab, Lima, Dibba and Shinas. A connecting coach service operates from Shinas to Muscat. Between Shannah and Masirah Island, there are several fast services daily. Information, including schedules and prices, as well as booking are available at  nfconline.om . Advance booking, especially for vehicles, is suggested for all services; note that personal identification is required and vehicle documents should be produced.

Between Shannah and Masirah Island there are also several slow-boat services run by independent operators, which carry cars and trucks, and depart when each ferry is loaded with vehicles to its capacity. Passengers travel free of charge.

The road network in Oman is excellent, with huge improvements having been made over the past few years. Major roads have street lighting, as do many minor roads even away from towns. Road surfaces are well maintained and road signs are in clear Arabic and, usually, also English, though occasionally the location of a sign might be improved.

Muscat and other major towns have a rush hour from 07.00 to 09.00 and from 16.00 to 18.00. Arterial routes may have elevated sections, and the previously congested roundabouts have been replaced by signalled junctions, at the loss of the very distinctive monuments at each roundabout’s centre.

However, with the dramatic increase in vehicles within Oman, the traffic is rarely free-flowing in the capital and other major conurbations. These are still more focused on vehicles than pedestrians, although there is increasing awareness that more pedestrian bridges are needed.

Foreign citizens are not able to renew an existing Oman visa online . As explained above, Oman eVisas can only be extended from within the country by visiting the Royal Oman Police.

Travelers can, however, depart Oman when their visa expires and apply for another eVisa online . Oman eVisa processing is fast, and most people receive the new permit within 24 hours.

Can GCC Residents Extend Their Visa?

According to Article 10 of Decree No 63/96, certain “foreigners residing in the GCC states who wish to visit the Sultanate for tourism” can visit the Sultanate of Oman for up to 4 weeks without a sponsor.

Additionally, Oman visa renewal rules state that residents of the GCC nations can extend their tourist visas for up to one week. This is because they have entered Oman within one month from the date of issue of their visa.

What Happens If I Do Not Get an Oman Visa Renewal?

The Omani authorities expect foreign visitors to respect the terms and conditions of their visas and leave before the permit’s expiration date.

Failing to do so means breaking the country's immigration law and visa policy and may result in severe consequences, including a fine. Overstaying a visa could also affect your chances of obtaining a new Omani travel authorization in the future.

If you wish to stay longer in Oman , there may be several ways to do so legally depending on your specific circumstances:

  • Extend your visa (if applicable)
  • Apply for another visa while still in the country
  • Leave Oman and re-apply for the same visa from abroad.

These options allow foreign citizens to stay in Oman for longer than 30 days if the request is approved. Oman visa renewals are not guaranteed . Travelers should plan their trip within the original allowance.

Driving to Oman from the UAE? Visa requirements, documents, car insurance and costs explained

Living in uae.

Planning to go on a road trip to Oman? Here’s all you need to prepare ahead of time

Waterfall Salalah

Dubai: A relaxing road trip to Oman this Eid Al Adha break not only sounds like a good idea, but is also affordable compared to a flight to any other destination.

Luckily, for UAE expatriates and other nationalities residing in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, they are eligible for a visa on arrival, and going through the border checkpoint is quite an easy process – if you are aware of all the rules.

So, to make sure you do not face any hiccups on your road trip, here is all you need to know about the visa and car insurance requirements for driving to Oman.

Visa requirements for UAE residents travelling to Oman by road

“You do not need to apply for a visa in advance. UAE residents can get a visa on arrival stamped on their passport, and this allows for a stay of 14 days in Oman,” Latheef MC, visa consultant at Dubai-based travel agency, Anisha Travel and Tourism, said.

If you are planning to stay for longer than that, then you must apply for an eVisa in advance, which would allow you to stay in Oman for up to 30 days .

However, according to Oman’s eVisa platform it normally takes at least four to five working days for the visa to be approved. If you are going for a shorter break, you can apply for a 14-day visa on arrival at the UAE-Oman border.

Additionally, Latheef stated that there are certain nationalities that are allowed to enter Oman visa free  through the border. However, it is important to check with the Oman Embassy or call the Royal Oman Police (ROP) contact centre – +968 2284820, to find if you are eligible for visa-free travel.

• Visa on arrival fee – 5 OMR (Dh47) . • Exit fee – Dh35 (this needs to be paid when you are exiting the UAE border). • Motor insurance (if your existing insurance does not cover driving in Oman) – Dh106 or higher, depending on the coverage.

Documents required

• Valid Emirates ID. • Passport with at least six months validity.

How to enter Oman from the UAE by road - five border crossings to know

Border crossing points for Oman from UAE

1. Al Darah border post

Route Ell, through Ras Al Khaimah, connects UAE residents to the northern most region of Oman - the Khasab area of Musandam, which is a governerate of Oman. Musandam is an exclave of Oman, separated from the rest of Oman by areas of the UAE. It is popular among tourists because of its boat cruises that offer the chance to sight dolphins, snorkeling and off-roading in the Hajar mountain range.

Musandam, Oman

2.UAE/Oman Dibba border post

Route E99, through Fujairah, connects UAE residents to the south of Musandam, to the areas of Dibba and Zaghi.

3.Khatmat Milaha border post

If you drive along Route E99 in the other direction through Fujairah, it will connect you to the northern part of Oman, opening up the cities of Sohar and Muscat.

4.Hatta Crossing/Al Wajajah border post

Along the borders of UAE and Oman, the next crossing is the Al Wajajah Crossing, which you can reach by driving down Route E44. This is another route you can take if you wish to access the capital Muscat or wish to explore the northern areas of the country.

5.Mezyad border post

Another border crossing through Al Ain is the Mezyad border post. When you are on route E40, take the exit for Zayed Bin Sultan Street, to reach the border crossing.

This border crossing connects you to the southern part of Oman, including Salalah, which is a popular destination during the summer months. This is because from June to September this area experiences monsoon, as Oman marks the Khareef/monsoon season.

What to do when you arrive at the Oman border

Step 1: pay exit fee.

When driving to Oman, you would first be crossing the UAE border post, where you would need to pay an exit fee of Dh35, according to Latheef.

Step 2: Get the visa stamped on your passport

“Next, when you are proceeding to the Oman border, you will need to park the car and enter the immigration section, where the visa will be issued and the passport will be stamped,” MC said.

Step 3: Apply for motor insurance for Oman, if you don’t already have one

Before you decide to travel, contact your insurance provider to find out if your policy includes Oman coverage.

“Major insurance companies in the UAE offer Oman coverage for free along with their comprehensive cover,” Hitesh Motwani, the Chief Marketing Officer at InsuranceMarket.ae, said.

In case your current motor insurance does not cover you for driving in Oman, you can purchase a policy at the border. Motor insurance for Oman is also referred ‘Orange Card’.

“The ‘Orange Card’ can also be purchased at the border, but this is limited to ‘third party cover’ only. In case of an accident, your car will not be covered,” he explained.

The ‘Orange Card’ can also be purchased at the border, but this is limited to ‘third party cover’ only. In case of an accident, your car will not be covered. - Hitesh Motwani, the Chief Marketing Officer at InsuranceMarket.ae

According to Latheef, when purchasing the insurance policy at the border, the minimum duration of the policy that you can purchase is for five days, which costs approximately Dh106.

“Most vehicles in the UAE have GCC insurance coverage. If not, you can go to one of the self-service kiosks and purchase car insurance with at least five days coverage. This costs around Dh106,” he added.

Step 4: Undergo car inspection

After the whole process is complete, the car will undergo a short inspection by the customs officers at the border, after which you will be able to enter Oman.

Driving in a car borrowed from a friend or family member? You need to have a No Objection Certificate (NOC)

You can drive to Oman in a borrowed vehicle, however, you need to have a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the car owner. The NOC must be notarised and translated to Arabic. The letter will state that the owner has given permission to the driver to use their vehicle, and it should include the chassis number, vehicle registration details and the Emirates ID number of the driver.

Some Bangladesh nationals exempted from visa ban: Oman embassy

Vinod Nair

Muscat. Certain categories of Bangladeshi nationals have been exempted from the visa ban imposed on Bangladesh nationals, Oman's embassy in Dhaka said in a statement.

The exempted categories are family visas, visit visas for citizens of Bangladesh residing in GCC countries, physicians, engineers, nurses, teachers, accountants, investors, all types of official visas, and high-income tourists.

The Embassy in Dhaka will receive and process all applications from applicants belonging to the above-mentioned categories and will coordinate duly with the Royal Oman Police (ROP) to issue the visa, the statement said.

All applications must be submitted with documentation duly attested to verify the eligibility of the applicant for the requested visa. Processing of applications will take one to four weeks depending on the particulars of each application.

The Embassy said it seeks to reassure all concerned with the ban on work visas that many steps have been taken by authorities and officials in Oman and Bangladesh to pave the way towards lifting the ban on work visas as soon as practicable.

"The ban was undertaken purely for technical reasons about the regular and ongoing review process of the foreign Labor market in Oman. Oman and Bangladesh enjoy excellent bilateral relations that are constantly growing and expanding in many fields under the wise and enlightened leadership of both the Bangladeshi and Omani governments respectively. "

It may be noted that the Royal Oman Police announced the suspension of the conversion of all types of tourist and visit visas to work visas for all nationalities coming to the Sultanate of Oman, as well as the issuance of all types of new visas for Bangladeshi citizens from October 31, 2023.

After eight months, the Oman government has lifted temporary visa restrictions on several categories for Bangladeshi nationals.

The exempted visa categories include all official visas, family visas, visitor visas for Bangladeshi nationals living in GCC countries, and visas for engineers, doctors, nurses, teachers, accountants, investors, and high-income tourists, said a note issued by the Omani Embassy in Dhaka yesterday.
