Trip Report for Eight Casinos on the South-end of the Strip

Side entrance to Tropicana Las Vegas

Posted By: John Mehaffey December 1, 2023

On October 18, 2023, Vegas Advantage visited eight Las Vegas Strip casinos on the south end. We found several new games and changes in this area. The list below is in the order that we visited.

We parked at Tropicana . It is the only casino in the area with free parking. The situation is convoluted. I’m not even sure we park in an area it is free. The entire lot was almost empty and there are no parking gates or payment machines.

Tropicana pulled half its table games over the summer. The pit closest to the door is gone. There are no more baccarat, pai gow, or 000 roulette tables left in the pit. The minimum bets were the same as always. It is still $25 to play 3/2 blackjack there. Craps is $10 or $15, depending on the time of day.

The other half of the Tropicana pit is now multiplayer electronic table games. All games have a $3 minimum.

Blackjack pays 6:5 and has a larger side bet menu including KK, QQ, JJ, 7s, A-2, Match, Pair, Poker 3, and 19+. In addition to the Ministar 00 roulette machine, Dual 00 roulette is now also available.

The available craps machine has changed, once again. Now, each player chooses two of the three available dice. Meaning results may vary for players during the same roll. It offers a Lucky Roller side bet.

Multiplayer craps machine at Tropicana Casino in Las Vegas

There are two major changes to table games at MGM Grand . European Roulette is gone from the pit. It is now only available in the Mansion Casino, which is its high-limit salon. The pai gow tiles table is gone.

The table limits were a little lower during this visit. For example, the poker pit games and roulette were $15. There were $25 3/2 blackjack tables. The back pit even had a couple of $10 6/5 blackjack games. It still takes $300 to play high-limit blackjack at MGM Grand. The double-deck tables are $500. Baccarat and European Roulette are $100.

Both stadiums were offline during our visit to MGM Grand. The Shoot to Win craps machine was also out of service.

There is an expanded selection of Interblock heads-up machines with a $5 minimum bet. Options include 6:5 blackjack with the expanded side bet menu, 00 roulette, craps, and Easy Craps. Easy Craps is similar to crapless craps, but come bets and buy bets are not available.

Heads-up Easy Craps game at MGM Grand in Las Vegas

00 roulette can be found for $3 on the Dual Wheel machine and $1, $2, and $5 increments on the Bally upright machines. Ministar and Golden Ball roulette have a $5 minimum.

Virtually everything at Park MGM was the same as before. Most games had a $15 minimum bet, including all dice tables, poker pit games except pai gow poker, and roulette. It takes $25 to get 3/2 blackjack and pai gow poker. The high-limit room has baccarat, European Roulette, double-deck, and six-deck blackjack that stands on soft 17 for $100.

All electronic table games have a $5 minimum, except Dual Wheel 00 roulette which is $3. Golden Ball 00 roulette is available with a side bet. Craps and 6:5 blackjack are available as heads-up and multiplayer games. The Lucky Shooter side bet was no longer available on the heads-up Interblock craps machines.

Inflation hit Aria ’s pits. Every game was at least $25. This includes all the poker ones, craps, crapless craps , 6/5 blackjack, and triple zero roulette. It took $50 to get 3/2 blackjack, pai gow poker, and double zero roulette. High-limit blackjack, midi baccarat, and European Roulette were $100.

There are a few baccarat tables outside the salon. These are no commission games. The minimums were $25 and $50.

Multiplayer craps machine at Aria in Las Vegas

The same new craps machine seen at Tropicana was also installed at Aria. However, the game was not yet operational and no minimum was listed.

All other multiplayer and most heads-up options have a $5 minimum. Players can find a selection of craps, 00 roulette, and 6:5 blackjack games.

Be wary of the upright 00 roulette game that short-pays straight and split bets. Increments are $1, $2, and $5.

The stadium offers big six and multihand 6:5 blackjack for $3. $5 options include single-hand 6:5 blackjack, craps, and 00 roulette. Baccarat has a $10 minimum.

New York-New York

Not much ever changes at New York-New York . It offers a good table game value for an MGM Resorts casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

The poker pit games start at $10. Craps is usually $15. Double and triple zero roulette are $20. There is 3/2 blackjack and pai gow poker for $25. The high-limit tables at New York-New York start at $100 and are only open for limited hours.

Heads-up and multiplayer electronic table games have a $5 minimum bet requirement. Options include 6:5 blackjack, craps, Dual Wheel 00 roulette, and Golden Ball 00 roulette.

Baccarat is available on the Interblock stadium for $10. The live dealer option for blackjack is $5. All other options have a $3 minimum. This includes 6:5 blackjack, craps, and 00 roulette. Stadium and heads up craps pay triple on a field 12.

Excalibur

A new center bar is under construction at Excalibur . It is in the middle of what was the pit. This displaced many table games. Three sides of this area have tables. All the games are still there from before. The minimum bets were $15 for all poker games except pai gow , roulette, and craps. Face Up Pai Gow Poker and 3/2 blackjack start at $25.

Most heads-up and multiplayer electronic table games at Excalibur have a $5 minimum bet requirement. However, Dual Wheel 00 roulette and heads-up 6:5 blackjack have a $3 minimum. $5 options include heads-up craps, Shoot to Win craps, Golden Ball 00 roulette, and even-money blackjack. The stadium was offline during our visit.

Little seems to change at Luxor . For $10 we found Three Card Poker , 6/5 blackjack, and 000 roulette. Dice tables, Ultimate Texas Hold’em , and 6/5 Free Bet Blackjack were $15. Double zero roulette was $20. There was an open  $50 baccarat table. High limit was closed. The minimum bets there are usually $500.

Non-roulette electronic table game options have a $5 minimum. This includes heads-up and multiplayer versions of craps and 6:5 blackjack. Golden Ball and Dual Wheel 00 roulette have $3 minimum bet requirements. The upright Bally 00 roulette machines offer $0.25, $0.50, and $1 increments.

Mandalay Bay

The limits were lower at Mandalay Bay . The poker pit minimum bets dropped to $15 from the previous $25 for all but pai gow. Double and triple zero roulette were $20. Pai gow poker and 3/2 blackjack dropped to $25 from $50. Craps and crapless craps remained $25. All the high-limit tables, which include double-deck and six-deck blackjack that stands on soft 17, as well as European Roulette, were $100.

The stadium was also offline at Mandalay Bay. We were also unable to locate the Bally 00 roulette upright that short-paid on straight and split bets.

Heads-up 00 roulette and Golden Ball 00 roulette have a $3 minimum. All other options have a $5 minimum. Options include Dual Wheel 00 roulette, Shoot to Win craps, heads-up craps, and 6:5 blackjack (both heads-up and multiplayer).

Monsoon season is near. Here’s what to expect in Las Vegas

After a stormy 2023 that included Tropical Storm Hilary, the National Weather Service is predicting a noticeably weaker monsoon season in Southern Nevada.

A pedestrian walks down a flooded sidewalk on Eastern Avenue south of Sahara Avenue Friday, Sep ...

Nevadans live in the driest state in the nation. But when cities like Las Vegas get rain in the summer months, it’s intense, shutting down roads, stranding people in their cars and even claiming lives.

After a wet, stormy 2023 that included Tropical Storm Hilary , the National Weather Service is predicting a noticeably weaker monsoon season in Southern Nevada, Clark County officials said at a news conference Tuesday. The season is about to begin in July, usually lasting until September.

And the county is doing what it can to keep residents safe. The Regional Flood Control District has completed about 75 percent of the stormwater upgrades it laid out in its master plan, including 110 basins that collect water as well as more than 713 miles of channels and storm drains.

Steven Parrish, the flood control district’s general manager, said the county will keep expanding its infrastructure as Southern Nevada grows. Overall, Las Vegas is keeping up with its yearly flash floods, he said.

“Those facilities did their job,” Parrish said. “They captured that water, and they carried it safely out to Lake Mead. But there are areas where we have more work to do.”

Lessons learned from Mount Charleston flooding

While the valley was spared the full fury of Hilary, the small town of Mount Charleston about 40 miles west of Las Vegas bore the brunt of flooding impacts.

Many residents didn’t have water and were unable to leave the mountains for weeks , but much of the town’s homes emerged unscathed, said Clark County assistant fire Chief Brian O’Neal, who helped coordinate the county’s response to the town’s flooding.

Staying in your home during similar storm events has to do with your personal level of preparedness, O’Neal said. In the case of Mount Charleston, the unique road system up in the Spring Mountains made leaving after the storm nearly impossible.

Regardless of where you live, it’s important to have at least 72 hours’ worth of water available and consider stocking up on nonperishable food that can be eaten without being cooked, he said.

“In order to avoid becoming a victim yourself, stay alert to the possibility of flooding and follow the guidance,” O’Neal said.

Las Vegas’ floods may only intensify

If you can, the best course of action is to stay inside during flooding and out of your car, officials said.

Failing to do so can be deadly. There were three deaths attributed to flooding last year: two homeless people and 13-year-old Ryan Taylor , who rode an inner tube and drowned, said Parrish, of the flood control district.

“I get tired of hearing: ‘Oh, we had a 100-year storm. We’re good for another 100 years,’” Parrish said. “I wish Mother Nature was that predictable.”

Chris Outler, lead forecaster at the National Weather Service’s Las Vegas office, said that while this season may be less destructive, it only takes one storm to have a destructive effect on Southern Nevada.

The Pacific Ocean is getting warmer, which scientists have said is an effect of climate change. That can mean more hurricanes and intense storms, Outler said.

“A warmer atmosphere holds more water, which means heavier flash flood events,” he said.

A view of the Las Vegas Strip

Las Vegas never fails to constantly reimagine itself, but these past several months have been particularly big for the city. Having played host to Formula 1 and the Super Bowl, the destination has garnered more attention than ever. And with these marquee sporting events came a slew of head-turning additions to Sin City. The arrival of the long-awaited Fontainebleau and Sphere certainly played key roles in this, but several other new spots around town are also creating some buzz. Here, we take a closer look at some of the most recent openings on the Las Vegas Strip and beyond that are worth checking out this summer.

Restaurants

The dining room at Mother Wolf

Mother Wolf

Evan Funke’s Mother Wolf is arguably the hottest restaurant in town right now. Having gained a cult-like following in Los Angeles (Funke is also behind the equally popular Felix Trattoria in Venice Beach), it was one of the most anticipated restaurants to open at the new Fontainebleau Las Vegas and the James Beard–nominated chef has certainly delivered. An homage to the Eternal City and Roman cuisine, the stars are the handmade pastas, particularly the fettucini al burro and rigatoni all’Amatriciana. Just don’t forget to start with the succulent blue prawns dressed in a green garlic salsa verde and end with the budino—both so exquisite that you’ll remember them for a lifetime.

A selection of dim sum offered at Washing Potato

Chyna Club and Washing Potato

From the mastermind behind Hakkasan, restaurateur Alan Yau strikes again with two new hits: Chyna Club and Washing Potato. Strategically located next to the high-limit room and baccarat tables at Fontainebleau, the two side-by-side restaurants offer elevated Chinese cuisine in a modern setting. The dinner-only Chyna Club transcends usual archetypes with its library-inspired interiors and eclectic music from around the world, but still serves one of the best Peking ducks in the Vegas. And in a city where there are several spots that do this famous dish justice, that’s really saying something. Equally enticing, and eccentric, is Washing Potato. If you judged it solely by appearances, the cyberpunk-esque dining room with mid-century modern furnishings and roaming spotlights would never lead you to think this was a dim sum restaurant. But the drama sets the stage for some fantastic bites, all steamed to order. Expect all the classics like har gow, chicken feet, and lotus leaf–wrapped glutinous rice, alongside newer adaptations like scallop shumai and char siu pineapple buns. And wash it all down with one of the lightly sweetened house iced teas.

Peter Luger Steak House's famed porterhouse

Peter Luger Steak House

A true NYC institution, Peter Luger has been serving up dry-aged steaks in Brooklyn since 1887. And for the first time ever, the restaurant opened its first location outside of New York last fall at Caesars Palace Las Vegas. As expected, the dining room has a classic steakhouse look with plenty of oak wood, complemented by brick arches and triple-height ceilings. The menu mirrors the original outpost, including the famed thick-cut bacon and dry-aged porterhouse served on a sizzling plate with Luger’s signature sauce, but with the addition of seafood towers (this is Vegas, after all). And yes, fret not, credit cards are accepted.

A selection of dishes offered at HaSalon

Las Vegas has recently seen an influx of restaurant-club hybrids and the latest to join the mix is HaSalon. Chef Eyal Shani’s latest location is tucked away on the Palazzo side of the Venetian Las Vegas and offers diners upscale Israeli and Mediterranean cuisine. The menu’s flowery descriptions reflect Shani’s whimsical way of speaking, with dishes like “avocado diamonds polished with gros sel resting peacefully on a bruschetta” and “terrifying hammer,” the latter a popular signature beef carpaccio that’s smashed tableside. On the weekdays the atmosphere leans on the more low-key side, but come Friday and Saturday the music pumps up and guests are welcomed to dance on tables.

Ito's 12-seat counter

Nestled within Poodle Room, a members-only club on the top floor of Fontainebleau, Ito is a 12-seat omakase experience centered around sushi. The restaurant prides itself on quality, with fish flown in daily from Japan. Panoramic views of Vegas serve as the backdrop to skillful chefs and sake pairings are highly encouraged. However, don’t skip out on the seasonal cocktails. Ranging from light and fruity to bold and savory, the tipples utilize a wide range of Japanese spirits (shochu, whisky, vodka) and flavors (shiso, yuzu, wasabi). They’re absolutely phenomenal and can either be enjoyed in the dedicated lounge or during your meal. The restaurant is open from Tuesday to Saturday with two seatings per night, but if you’re unable to land a reservation and don’t mind a much more casual offering, Bar Ito at the hotel’s Promenade food hall is their sister concept with a menu centered around hand rolls.

Nicco’s Prime Cuts & Fresh Fish

On the surface Nicco’s might look like your typical upscale steakhouse, but there are some unexpected hits on the menu. Located at the new Durango Casino & Resort, you’ll find all the classics including a range of crudos, caviar service, and a variety of steaks (USDA Prime, dry-aged, wagyu of all origins). But Nicco’s also has an unrivaled fish selection, including a dry-aged Mediterranean branzino and Faroe Island salmon, and warm seafood plateaus in addition to the classically chilled option. Don’t sleep on the signature burger, either, a double-patty beauty made with a proprietary wagyu blend, but for those who can’t resist some childhood nostalgia the country fried steak might just be the most surprising dish.

Brunch offerings at LPM Restaurant & Bar

LPM Restaurant & Bar

French-Mediterranean fare takes center stage at the Cosmopolitan’s latest addition, LPM. Delivering a taste of the French Riviera, the largely seafood-forward menu features an array of dishes that are bright, fresh, and vibrant. Go light with standouts like the yellowtail carpaccio with a citrus dressing, the king crab and tomato tart, or the grilled tiger prawns marinated in green chili and coriander. But if you want something on the heartier side, the lobster risotto and lamb cutlets are also solid choices. Naturally, there’s an extensive list of rosé wines while those who prefer cocktails should try the signature tomatini that’s topped off with fresh cracked pepper from an oversized mill. Weekend brunch service was also added in May if the late morning meal is more your speed.

The dining room at Brasserie B By Bobby Flay

Brasserie B by Bobby Flay

Bobby Flay is no stranger to Caesars Las Vegas and now the celebrity chef has another restaurant at the iconic hotel. Serving French-inspired fare in a brasserie-like setting, classic dishes include filet mignon tartarte, haricots verts, and duck confit. Others, like the homemade potato chips with a roquefort blue cheese sauce or the ribeye with a sweet-and-spicy glaze and chili butter, showcase Flay’s twists, hence the “inspired” aspect of the menu. In addition to dinner service Brasserie B also offers a daily brunch with an assortment of freshly baked pastries and favorites like French toast, croque madame, and moules frites.

The chicken parm sandwich at Parm Italian

Parm Italian

Replacing Shalom Y’all at Aria’s Proper Eats food hall , Parm is the casual offshoot of Mario Carbone and Rich Torrisi’s renowned restaurant Carbone. Italian-American comfort food is the name of the game and it’s a great way to get a taste of the duo’s acclaimed recipes if you can’t nab a reservation at their signature restaurant. Go with the crowd pleasers and order the meatballs, chicken parm sandwich, and spicy rotini (yes, with the famous spicy vodka sauce).

Bars and Clubs

Liv Nightclub and Liv Beach

One could argue that Liv is synonymous with Fontainebleau so it comes as no surprise that the Groot Hospitality–owned club would also make its way to Vegas. And, for the very first time, Liv makes its dayclub debut in Sin City. Both are on the more intimate side by Vegas standards, but that just means there’s no bad table at either venue. This summer, DJs include the likes of Tiësto, John Summit, and James Kennedy, with Calvin Harris returning in the fall on October 12.

Hidden behind a golden door on Bellagio’s casino floor, the Vault is unlike any other bar in Las Vegas. Conceptualized with high rollers in mind, the sultry lounge is decked out with black mohair banquettes, black marble with gold veining, and a sparkling bar carrying nothing but high-end spirits, including one shelf that’s dedicated to rare bottles of O.F.C. Inventive cocktails come at a premium, but expect some nice touches like a cloche-covered Old Fashioned shrouded in applewood smoke or homemade cardamom soda added tableside to a pomegranate and prickly pear margarita. While you enjoy your expertly crafted libation, nosh on a selection of elevated small bites like potato croissants topped with caviar or miniature cubano sandos with Cinco Jotas jamón.

The Pinky Ring by Bruno Mars

Leave it to Bruno Mars to personify his singular swag into the most elegant casino lounge to ever exist on the Strip. Located inside the Bellagio Hotel & Casino, the Pinky Ring refers to a lyric from the international superstar’s song “24K Magic.” Like his Vegas concerts, photos and videos aren’t permitted inside, forcing guests to be fully present and live in the moment. Past the Grammy-lined entrance is an intimate and glamorous venue with velvety banquettes, mirrored panels, and a halo-like crystal chandelier suspended over a sunken pit. Music ranges from jazz to funky beats and cocktail names are all related to the artist in some way (the Hooligan, for example, is a spicy margarita dubbed after Mars’ longtime band). And while bottle service is available, this is no boisterous venue. It’s all about good vibes and a fun time.

The Surf & Turf Experience at Tao Beach

Marquee Dayclub and Tao Beach

While both dayclubs have been around for a while, the two Tao Group Hospitality venues are taking pool food to the next level with the introduction of new interactive experiences. At Marquee—which has always had a flair for flashy bottle service presentations with fun props—you can now upgrade your cabana with a live taco or sushi station or opt for “the ultimate ocean experience” that includes a caviar bar and a trio of towers featuring seafood, sushi, and dessert. Over at Tao Beach, pan-Asian fare is naturally the star and now includes an array of dim sum; surf and turf cooked right at your cabana; and two sushi experiences, one dubbed as a “cruise line,” an exaggerated take on sushi boats, the other involving tableside preparation and a model. Many of these require either a 72-hour or one-week notice, so make sure to put in your requests ahead of time.

Activities and Entertainment

The co-ed space at Lapis Spa & Wellness

Lapis Spa & Wellness

Split between two floors and spanning 55,000 square feet, Fontainebleau’s Lapis Spa & Wellness is a beacon of self-care. You’ll find all the bells and whistles in the sanctuary’s co-ed facilities such as vitality pools, a cold plunge, salt room, and experience showers, alongside some lesser-seen offerings like a snow room and a European-inspired event sauna. The gender-separated changing rooms also feature their own set of pools, an infrared sauna, and a relaxation lounge with star lights. And in addition to your typical treatment rooms, Lapis also offers what they’ve dubbed the Supernova Suite, an exclusive-use space with its own set amenities (pool, steam room, treatment tables), granting a more private experience for a group of up to eight people. To round out the experience you’ll also find an impressive 14,000-square foot fitness center with an extensive array of the latest equipment including Peloton bikes, Hydrow rowers, Woodway treadmills, and VersaClimbers.

Bruno Mars at Dolby Live

Following last year’s successful residency with Anderson .Paak as Silk Sonic, Bruno Mars returns to the stage at Park MGM’s Dolby Live theater as a solo act with all his greatest hits (“Treasure,” “That’s What I Like,” “Just the Way Your Are,” “Grenade”—it’s one hell of a set list). The 15-time Grammy winner has once again chosen to lock up guests’ phones to avoid any distractions and, as Mars puts it, “to do whatever the [he] wants.” Expect an infectiously high-energy show as the silk shirt–donning legend glides across the stage and showcases not just his singing prowess, but his talent as an instrumentalist, too, along with a comedic bit involving a gilded retro brick phone that shamelessly segues into a plug for his new lounge the Pinky Ring. But it you can’t make it to one of Mars’ concerts, this summer you’ll also find a reprise of Lady Gaga’s highly popular Jazz & Piano show at Dolby Live, along with an eight-night appearance by Mariah Carey where the songstress will be performing fan favorites.

A view of the Sphere

After years of anticipation, the Sphere officially opened its doors last September. A true technological marvel, the one-of-a-kind arena has not just changed Las Vegas’ skyline forever, but is also breaking boundaries in the entertainment world. Covered in 580,000 square feet of fully programmable LED panels, the exterior alone has become an attraction, depicting attention-grabbing ads and various emojis throughout the day. Inside, the highest-resolution LED screen in the world extends above the audience, providing an immersive experience that’s further complemented by 4D technologies that include environmental effects (changes in temperature, scents), seats with infrasound haptic systems, and, of course, crystal-clear audio. This summer Dead & Company will finish up their residency on August 10 and the Eagles will take over starting from September 20. In addition to concerts there are also the near-daily cinematic Sphere Experiences showing Darren Aronofsky’s Postcard from Earth .

"DiscoShow" will be opening at the Linq in August

Spiegelworld—the same creators behind Absinthe at Caesars Place Las Vegas, arguably the best variety show in the city—is coming to town with a new production at the Linq. DiscoShow will be a throwback to the seventies inspired by David Mancuso’s famous invitation-only parties in New York City. Mirror balls will inevitably be plentiful and jokes undoubtedly raunchy (the age requirement has been set to 18). The show will debut August 14 alongside its accompanying restaurant, Diner Ross (like its sister production-and-restaurant combo OPM and Superfrico at the Cosmopolitan), with its grand opening celebration slated for September 7.

One of exhibits at Museum of Illusions Las Vegas

Museum of Illusions

With dozens of locations around the world, Museums of Illusions has become a beloved family-friendly attraction. Having finally made its way to Las Vegas, the mind-bending museum located between the Cosmopolitan and the Shops at Crystals is the largest location to date, measuring at over 15,000 square feet. Interactive exhibits include a spinning vortex tunnel, a reverse room, and plenty of optical illusions that are fun for everyone involved. Get your camera ready—it’ll make for some great memories.

The "Beach" exhibit at Arte Museum Las Vegas

Arte Museum

With the rise of social media digital art museums have become quite popular and one of the companies behind the growing trend is Arte Museum. Created by Korean digital design company d’strict, the experience immerses visitors by way of technology and visual installations. At its Las Vegas outpost, located just steps from Museum of Illusions, the venue spans across two floors and 30,000 square feet. Stroll along a beach as an aurora borealis dances through the night sky; admire the changing colors of suspended, raindrop-shaped lanterns in a mirrored room that creates a seemingly infinite space; and settle into the “Garden,” a large-scale installation that shows off the works of renowned artists like Claude Monet and Auguste Renoir. Kids will also love the “Live Sketchbook” exhibit where their own animal drawings come alive on the screen.

While the Sphere is a mega-stadium of sorts, Voltaire is the complete opposite capping at just 1,000 seats. Located at the Venetian, the venue’s Art Deco–inspired interiors and plush furnishings are more reminiscent of a cabaret lounge than your typical Vegas theater. The beautiful, intimate space puts you up close and personal to the stars that will grace its stage such as Christina Aguilera this summer.

Fontainebleau Las Vegas

It took 16 years and $3.7 billion, but the Fontainebleau, of Miami Beach rat pack fame, finally opened its doors this past December. Its sleek blue tower is a lofty addition to the northern end of the Strip and is conveniently located adjacent to the Las Vegas Convention Center. The property has quickly cemented itself as one of the best destinations for dining thanks to its impressive collection of 36 food and beverage outlets. In addition to the aforementioned restaurants in this list, highlights also include Don’s Prime, a classic steakhouse with mid-century modern flair; La Fontaine, a daytime French spot serving one of the best brunches on the Strip; and Promenade, a food hall for more casual bites. And it wouldn’t be Fontainebleau or an homage to Magic City without dining concepts by Miami giant Groot Hospitality. The group’s Komodo serves up pan-Asian fare in a lively, contemporary setting while Papi Steak is a modern, high-energy steakhouse where the signature is a 55-ounce Australian Wagyu tomahawk brought out in a gilded suitcase by a crew of baton light–wielding waitstaff. Chef Gabriela Cámara’s highly anticipated Catina Contramar is also slated to open later this year.

A Gold King room at Fontainebleau Las Vegas

The hotel also boasts 3,644 light and airy accommodations. A color palette of blue, white, and coral sets a soothing tone while floor-to-ceiling windows allow for plenty of natural light (and often views of the glittering Strip, Sphere included). Bathrooms are clad in marble and cloud-like beds are draped in 500-thread-count sheets. And for high rollers it’s the Fleur de Lis Suites that will be calling your name. Ranging between 980 and nearly 3,500 square feet, these grand accommodations come with access to a dedicated check-in lounge, butler service, and entry to Poodle Room, the coveted members-only club on the hotel’s top floor.

While you’re here this summer make sure to carve out some time for the resort’s six-acre pool deck. With half a dozen pools, four bars, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, a gaming area, and plenty of lounging arrangements, there’s plenty to keep you busy. Otherwise, try your luck on the casino floor, which spans more than a whopping 150,000 square feet.

Durango Casino & Resort

Whether it be lower table minimums, more space, free parking, or simply an overall better bang for your buck, there are certain perks that come with staying off the Strip. And with the opening of Durango Resort & Casino this past December, there’s a better case than ever to venture away from the city’s dazzling thoroughfare. Located in Southwest Valley, an up-and-coming corner of Vegas that’s seeing quite a bit of development, the latest Station Casinos property is just a little over 10 minutes from the airport. The $780 million project injects a much-needed touch of youthful energy to off-Strip hotels, thereby attracting an eclectic mix of guests.

Mijo's speakeasy, Wax Rabbit

From the moment you step in you’ll notice that natural light floods into its 83,000-square-foot casino—a rarity for any gaming venue let alone Vegas. The dining options are not to be slept on, either. In addition to Nicco’s, standouts also include Mijo Modern Mexican Restaurant, complete with a fantastic list of margaritas and a speakeasy where DJs spin actual vinyl records, and Eat Your Heart Out, a food hall featuring Vegas classics like Shang Artisan Noodle, Vesta Coffee, and Station Casinos’ very own Oyster Bar as well as first-to-market concepts like Prince Street Pizza and James Beard Award–winning chef Marc Vetri’s casual pasta bar, Fiorella. There’s also a phenomenal sportsbook with an outdoor patio and an elegant lounge that looks out to a cabana-lined pool.

Once you head up to the rooms, you’ll find spacious accommodations with a calming palette of neutral hues, floor-to-ceiling windows, and bathrooms with sizable showers. The higher-end suites are worth the splurge, though, furnished with conveniences like a full wet bar with a built-in ice machine, oversized tubs, and even the coveted Dyson hairdryer. Some even boast terraces and many offer round-the-clock butler service to help you with whatever you may need.

A renovated suite at the Venetian Resort Las Vegas

The Venetian Resort Las Vegas

Las Vegas’ most iconic hotels are those that are literally inspired by destinations afar and the Venetian Resort is certainly one of them. This year, the property celebrates its 25th anniversary and with it comes a $1.5 billion renovation. A portion of the revamp has already been completed, seen in recent additions like Voltaire, HaSalon, new gaming options, and Sala 118, a bar with an extensive negroni selection located just steps from reception.

For those who have been loyal guests of the hotel, the forthcoming reimagined rooms are arguably the most exciting part of the project. Slated to come online in September, just in time for the end of summer, the spacious suites nearly double the size of standard entry-level rooms on the Strip will feature a new color palette of crimson and white inspired by Venice Carnival, contemporary finishes, and upgraded technology. The resort has also reworked its loyalty program, with one of the most significant changes being that you can now earn points on dining even if you’re not staying at the property. And there will be more to come next year, including the highly anticipated opening of Cote Korean Steakhouse.
