KIMBERLEY EXPEDITION CRUISES

Welcome to the otherworldly Kimberley. Tucked along the northwestern corner of Australia, the Kimberley is one of the world’s last wild frontiers, from rugged sandstone peaks and gushing waterfalls, to desert expanses, sunken mangrove forests, and everything in between. Cruise through Montgomery Reef as the tides rush out, leaving sea turtles dotting their heads in its midst. Search for a lustrous, masterfully cultivated pearl on a local pearl farm. Splash through the spray of King George Falls, or take to the skies in an amphibious Mallard aircraft to watch tawny sharks swim below. Better yet, engage with the original land-owning communities and their cultural rites, including guided showings of the unique Gwion Gwion artwork they have curated for centuries.

Crystal-clear waters and gleaming pearls aside, our Kimberely expeditions stand out to guests who want to travel Australia, but also desire to expedition off the beaten path. Whether you are a well-seasoned traveler, wildlife enthusiast, natural history buff, or are simply seeking a new adventure in one of the most pristine places on Earth, experience this unique corner of the world with Seabourn.

The Kimberley Expedition Port Highlights

Included Expedition Experience

King George Falls

Prepare for the highlight of your trip, cruising with our Expedition Team on a Zodiac® to explore the highest twin waterfalls in Western Australia. They will skillfully maneuver the canyon that the river carved nearly 2 billion years ago, flanked by mesmerizing sandstone cliffs, to the thundering 250-foot falls that will plunge into the waters in front of you.

This stop is full of beautiful, secluded beaches and tiny islands to explore. The real draw, though, is seeing the Gwion Gwion or Bradshaw rock art galleries that cover walls and caves in the area. Take a Zodiac® ride to Jar Island to see some of the oldest art in the world. Your Expedition Team will give you an interpretation of the drawings and a look at the fascinating history that accompanies them.

Montgomery Reef

Contemplate the raw transformation of the world’s largest inshore reef as you witness it appear and dip beneath the surface in some of the biggest tidal changes on Earth. As you explore one of the ‘greatest natural wonders of the world’, you’ll search for incredible marine wildlife in their natural habitat from your Zodiac® – dolphins, octopuses, fish, reef sharks, turtles, sea snakes and more.

Talbot Bay Horizontal Waterfalls

Expect the unexpected amongst the spectacular rock formations and lush mangroves. Most waterfalls cascade vertically, but here tides push intense currents between narrow gorges to create a horizontal effect.

Featured Included Shore Excursions

Kuri bay pearl farm, traditional face painting ceremony, el questro park.

unforgettable adventure…

Discovery One will take you on an unforgettable adventure. Smaller than other cruise ships, the 25-metre catamaran has a shallow draft which allows us to travel close to shore, up rivers and between the many islands of the Buccaneer Archipelago. There is actually over 1000 islands!

We aim to immerse you in the Kimberley - igniting all of your senses - sights, sounds, touch, aromas and tastebuds...

We tow 2 tenders and take you on excursions in the adventure boats 2 to 3 times a day - depending on the cruise package (weather and tides permitting).

In 2024, we celebrate 22 years of cruising the Kimberley region. As Kimberley specialists - this is the only region that we explore - we are delighted to share the gems of this spectacular and remote region with new guests and returning passengers.

The Heli camping night would have to be the absolute highlight of our trip on Kimberley Ultimate 6. Alan (Pilot) was sooooo good, great knowledge, excellent camp cook, host and fabulous company! Was fun having Chris and Laura (Crew) as well. Was the most beautiful spot up in the top of the Kimberley, scenery and especially the stars in that outback black night. Where else can you step out of the helicopter and jump into a glorious fresh water pool. Sit around a campfire and then into your luxurious stretcher. Felt like we were in a dream!!! Would like to thank The True North Team for a truly unforgettable experience. See you all again soon. Cheers (less)

Never seen the Kimberley Coast before, True North made it possible to access remote passages and fiords of the remote western Australian coast line. The on board helicopter was a seamless transport to see the Kimberley coast from above and gave a complete magnification of the journey, as well as permitting access to the remote indigenous cave art consented by local indigenous communities. The Montgomery Reef over 100 kms long is a powerful natural wonder that rises from the sea as the 11 metre tide drops. Both at water level at the Cruise ship and from the helicopter this amazing sight will be my highlight along with the major waterfalls enroute which we encounter as a cooling natural rainfall in the 30 degree daytime. The compact cruise ship True North boasted hotel room comfort. Food was restaurant quality embellished by the catch of the day. I loved the spacious lounge and forward deck. Finally, the major stand out was the genuine staff service culture and friendliness, I think very hard to beat. A genuinely unique experience. Highly recommended. (less)

Congratulations on reaching this milestone... Happy 30th Anniversary. EVERY DAY on TRUE NORTH was full of treasured memories. One memory I would like to share with you was the experience I had on a "Ladies Only" fishing trip. It was such FUN!! Many FIRSTS for me – NEVER been fishing in a boat before, NEVER drank champagne holding a fishing line in one hand and a glass in the other and NEVER caught a Barramundi before and then that evening, at dinner, got to wear "the cap", because my catch was the first Barra caught that day. Hard to beat this day, but it was only one of many. Your helicopter BBQ's are also very memorable experiences and could we ever forget the oysters, so fresh and eaten with a squeeze of lemon, just standing on the beach and eating freshly caught mud crabs on the beach around the bonfire. I would like to thank The Haines Group for the opportunity we have recently experienced aboard the ‘True North’. The 7-day Snap Shot Tour through the Kimberley’s is not a holiday rather a 5-star Adventure exploring a part of Australia that is relatively untouched. Amazing History, Fishing and Hiking through Gorges, add to this great food and people, not to mention the ‘True North ‘itself! I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a week. (less)

This is a territory that is two-thirds the size of France and has 38,000 people living in it. Half are aborigines descended from Australia's first inhabitants. These distant ancestors have bestowed a culture and cave art with an ongoing sense of mystery. This is a region that you fly over or approach by sea because it is unspoilt and wild . Red soil, ochre cliffs, feisty inlets, roaring waterfalls, saltwater crocodiles... Welcome to the Kimberley .

Fly over the Bungle Bungle Range

Wyndham , the northernmost town in the Kimberley region, is a special gateway. This area with fewer than 800 inhabitants makes the ideal starting point for exploring Purnululu National Park . Having been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003, it is famous for the Bungle Bungle Range and its ochre and grey striped sandstone domes. There is nothing better than a panoramic flight to admire the beauty of this landscape created by erosion over a period of 20 million years.

Fly over the Buccaneer Archipelago

Fly over the Buccaneer Archipelago

In the west of the Kimberley, the land seems to break into pieces and slide into the sea. The result is a jagged coastline and no fewer than 800 islands forming the Buccaneer Archipelago , leading to finely cut panoramas. The best way to take in this unique geography is to take to the air. Soaring in a period Grumman Mallard amphibious aircraft , the views over this two-billion-year-old terrain are truly amazing. The undulating desert coast gives way to dots of land with red cliffs plunging into sapphire waters. Being so hard to access, this area has found itself protected... The nearest town is half an hour away by plane.

Sail along the King George River

Sail along the King George River

One of the Kimberley's marvels, the King George River is particularly stunning. Travellers turn into real explorers here. Guided by naturalists who are experts in the region, Zodiac® boats sail along the ochre, red, purple, pink and orange rock faces in the heart of 80-metre gorges. In the distance, the twin King George Falls rumble away. They are so vertical it gives you vertigo. The water hurtles down the cliffs. Watching is a hypnotic experience. Time seems to stand still, giving everyone the chance to enjoy the moment.

Discover cave art

Discover cave art

With 10% of the Kimberley having been systematically explored by archaeologists, hundreds of thousands of painted motifs in tunnels and on rocky walls have been found and listed. It is believed that some were done 20,000 years ago and are examples of Gwion Gwion cave art . This is characterised by its fine brushstrokes and rare aesthetics which tell us more about how these old civilisations lived. Clothes, food, arms, tools, ceremonies, trade... These precise paintings are a mine of information for researchers. One of the highlights of a trip to the Kimberley is enjoying this art, which is some of the world's oldest.

Enjoy seeing unique tidal phenomena

Enjoy seeing unique tidal phenomena

Water is king at Collier Bay . Gigantic tidal surges have created these unique landscapes, to photographers' delight. These surges can reach over 14 metres in width and are some of the world's biggest. They cause special phenomena, like at Montgomery Reef : the biggest coastal reef on the planet. When the water pulls back, this creates strong currents and little waterfalls. In Talbot Bay , when the tide comes in or goes out, the waves rush into a bottleneck. This water then flows away, creating "horizontal waterfalls" .

Australia's aborigine cuisine revolves around bush tucker . This means all the animals and plants in the Australian bush that allow humans to survive in this difficult environment. Kangaroos, emus, seafood, honey, berries, worms, lizards and snakes are foods sought by hunter-gatherers.

Myths and legends

North-west Kimberley is home to magnificent decorated caves representing Wandjina, the powerful rain spirit . Poignantly moving ochre figures and silhouettes enhanced with touches of black, red, yellow and white leap out from the walls, alone or in groups, standing or lying. No need for mouths on their round, large-eyed and fine-nosed faces, encircled with headdress-evoking halos, for the extraordinary power of these supernatural entities to express itself. Both Aboriginal people and visitors are required to observe a strict protocol in order to approach them, and only the initiated are allowed to maintain these frescoes and create new representations of the spirit in order to continue the tradition of this ancestral sacred art , which is considered to be the most ancient in the world.

Book. Leafing through Australie aborigène (Aborigine Australia) will make you want to visit the country. This stunning photo book's subtitle, Walkabout , is a reference to the rite-of-passage journey taken by aborigines across Australia, following in the footsteps of their mythological ancestors. The Kimberley and other areas are beautifully represented in the book in photos taken by Sandrine and Frédéric Mouchet, who spent two years immersed in these isolated lands.

Music. The first rock group, in the 1980s, to combine aboriginal sounds with contemporary music, Yothu Yindi (which means “mother and child” in Yongli), define themselves as artisans of cultural reconciliation. Prior to becoming a pop star, the group's singer, Yunupingu, was the first Aboriginal person ever to be a head teacher. He developed innovative teaching methods designed to suit the distinctive characteristics of Aboriginal people.

Film. In Undermined, Tales from the Kimberley , director Nicholas D. Wrathall examines what will become of the Kimberley and the 200 aborigine tribes who live there. A range of farming and industrial projects in the region are challenging their traditional lifestyles.

Facts and figures

Some experts estimate that early aborigine cave art dates back 20,000 or 30,000 years . The term "aborigine art" includes these primitive cave works as well as creations by contemporary artists influenced by this age-old culture. It is therefore the oldest ongoing artistic tradition in the world.

Catriona Rowntree shares her top tips for choosing the right Scenic cruise for you

By Jemima Skelley | 4 hours ago

For Getaway host Catriona Rowntree, trying to choose her favourite cruise route is like being asked to choose a favourite child.

"It's impossible!," she tells 9Travel.

But if you've never taken a cruise before, Catriona has what she calls the "toe warmer" cruise - a perfect way to get a feel for it.

"I recommend doing Amsterdam to Budapest," she says. "It's all the classics rolled up into one."

Watch the video above.

Amsterdam to Budapest cruise scenic

"It gives you a bit of culture, it's a wonderful and gentle cruise, and it's not too expensive," she says of the Scenic European river cruise.

"What I love about cruising - and why it is one of the most popular forms of travel in the world - is that there really is genuinely a cruise for everyone."

No matter your age, no matter your budget, and no matter what you like to do on holiday, there's a cruise that will suit you to a T. Especially with the rise of smaller ship yacht cruising, which is becoming the latest way to travel on the oceans.

Catriona Rowntree Arctic cruise with Scenic

Now talking to her own personal experience on cruises, Catriona says that there was one cruise she took which "unexpectedly deeply affected me": a Scenic Eclipse voyage in the Arctic.

"I loved going to Norway and soaking up the culture, learning about the great explorers, learning about the music that has come from there," she shares.

Of course, the wildlife there is stunning, as is the trip through Greenland up what is known as 'iceberg alley'.

"All my senses were working overtime all the time."

Another cruise she says everyone should take is a trip down the Nile. Catriona has visited Egypt three times and "hopes that everybody, once in their life, will get to see the pyramids".

kimberley cruise tours

Catriona's next cruise is set to be one right here in Australia - fishing in the Kimberley with her husband.

When it comes to booking your next trip, the travel expert advises you to think about what you need in your life right now.

"Don't do a cruise that you think you should do. Do the cruise that you want in your life right now."

If you're exhausted and want to relax, take a lovely cruise to the South Pacific,. If you're after a cultural experience, sample the river cruises of Europe.

"There really is something for everyone."

Beyond the Numbers: Silversea’s Three Oceans World Cruise 2027

  • Silver Dawn
  • World cruise 2027
  • Three Oceans World Cruise 2027

Numbers tell a fascinating story about Silversea’s recently announced World Cruise 2027 :  149 days, 80 destinations, 50 UNESCO World Heritage sites, 35 countries, five continents. For sure, the statistics are breathtaking on their own, but add a range of programs and special events, and the stage is set for nearly five months of immersive experiences and adventures that enrich and elevate guests’ journey on The Three Oceans World Cruise 2027 on Silversea.

The journey will call in more destinations than any voyage in Silversea’s history, says Bert Hernandez, president, Silversea. Traveling on the 596-passenger Silver Dawn, guests will “discover the very best experiences in ultra-luxury cruise travel,” Hernandez adds.

Indeed, Silver Dawn features Silversea’s popular S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste) program, which connects menus and shore adventures with the regions in which guests are traveling. It also has the OTIUM spa, which celebrates indulgence and wellness.

Gaining a world view in new ways

Departing Jan. 8, 2027, from Los Angeles, guests will find those experiences in such destinations as Hawaii, French Polynesia, American Samoa, Melanesia and New Caledonia before Silver Dawn heads to Brisbane, Australia and circles northward to Asian, some new, and some familiar. Then it turns south, eventually tracing a path around the southernmost piece of the African continent. Next? Silver Dawn heads up its western coast, reaching the Iberian Peninsula before heading for the U.K. and Ireland and on to Scandinavia, where the journey ends June 7 in Copenhagen.

Besides learning more about ports that promise hidden gems, guests also will be introduced to various cuisines of the world, thanks to the innovative S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste) culinary program aboard the Dawn. A constantly changing menu in the S.A.L.T. Kitchen provides a sumptuous introduction to regional cuisines through a menu that changes depending on where the Dawn is in this voyage, and S.A.L.T. Bar crafts beverages that reflect the region as well.  S.A.L.T. experiences ashore as well as programs in the hands-on S.A.L.T. Lab also expand knowledge and appreciation of global cuisines.

What’s new for 2027’s Three Oceans World Cruise?

kimberley cruise tours

Travelers can try to spot the Big 5 in South Africa, cruise the Norwegian fjords, which offer a trifecta of landscapes, brilliantly green peaks and thundering waterfalls; swim above the Great Barrier Reef, revered for its beauty and the habitats it provides; rest and rejuvenate in Bora Bora’s famed overwater bungalows, where the tides will lull you to sleep World Cruise 2027 also offers the luxury of exploring destinations in extraordinary ways. Among them:

A S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste) Culinary Experience in Sri Lanka: This country has absorbed the best of the cuisines and cultures that have been woven into its rich fabric. A S.A.L.T experience not only allows you to sample the result of the culinary triumph but also allows you to participate in its creation with interactive demonstrations that unlock the secrets of a feast that you will want to replicate.

Livingstone’s Legacy: David Livingstone, a Scottish explorer and missionary, led the way in opening Africa to the rest of the world. Thwarted by unrest in China, where he hoped to live and work, he chose Africa, arriving in March 1841 in South Africa and making discovery after discovery for the next 15 years. In 1855, he traveled to what became known as Victoria Falls. This two-night optional excursion gives guests a ringside seat to a misty spectacle that commands awe and draws respect from all who are enchanted by their power and thunder.

Hawaiian Treasures: You will be introduced to the wonders of the hoku (stars) in Hawaii, which not only put on a dazzling light show for all to see but also will be preceded by a special celebration honoring the Polynesian navigators who developed a way to navigate by the stars. You’ll eat delicious fare from an imu, an inground oven that has allowed, for centuries, the cooking and steaming of such dishes as kalua pig, taro, chicken, fish, sweet potatoes and breadfruit. The flavor of its dishes is unrivaled in its moistness and delicately smoky flavor.

Harmonies of the Emerald Isle: Belfast Cathedral, also known as the Church of St. Anne, is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year. It will be the setting for a taste of local cuisine in a special Silversea event that will also include choral music. The first part of this Romanesque building was the nave, which was consecrated in June 1904. The church’s grand arches celebrate distinguished members, and the pillars pay heed to shipbuilding, linen, the arts and womanhood, among other topics.

2027’s Three Oceans World Cruise has three segments

World cruises typically are designed in segments for a few reasons. Each one of the three segments in our 2027 Three Oceans World Cruise is wrapped around a theme of discovery. As well, for those travelers whose schedules don’t permit them a full world cruise, you can still experience its essence by just booking a segment or two. More specifics? Read on.

Segment 1: An Ocean of Time: The Pacific Ocean

kimberley cruise tours

The first leg of the voyage takes you from Los Angeles to destinations you think you know, but on Silversea, you’ll find quite a different lens through which you’ll view a trip whose first leg will dock 46 days later in Brisbane, Australia.

In Hawaii, for instance, guests can visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s home to the one of the largest active volcanoes in the world. Further, guests will learn about the mysterious Polynesian seafarers at an event that delves into the mysteries of how they navigated vast areas of the Pacific. A ho’olaule’a , or celebration, in Honolulu focuses on authentic fare and allows guests to contemplate just how those early Polynesians knew so much about the world.

kimberley cruise tours

The next phase of the trip takes you to Rangiroa, Moorea, and Bora Bora, all in French Polynesia and Samoa on Upolu, the second largest island in Samoa’s chain. Silver Dawn also calls at Lautoka on the island of Viti Levu, Fiji, the largest island in a country that includes more than 840 islands and islets and where temperatures in winter rarely dip below the 60s.

Guests can celebrate Champagne Beach in Vanuatu (“Our Land Forever”), a country that’s been independent since 1980. What will have you bubbling: This is the place you envision when you dream – think crystalline waters and baby-fine sand – of the ideal idyll.

After a stop in Lifou Island, the largest of the Loyalty Islands in the country of New Caledonia, you’ll be heading for Australia and its varied faces and places: Arlie Beach in the Whitsundays region; Darwin, the capital of Australia’s Northern Territory; and Brisbane, the third largest city in Australia and the capital of Queensland, which will give you another taste of the tropics and an opportunity to get to know the Great Barrier Reef, just off its coast.

Segment 2: An Ocean of Life: The Indian Ocean

kimberley cruise tours

The second segment of World Cruise 2027 embraces the magical and the mystical, including a stop in Bali, east of Indonesia’s Java, and Semarang, on the northern coast of Java, a place of temples and statues of Buddha. Contrast that contemplative spot with a stop in Singapore, the city-state on the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula and the largest port in Southeast Asia. The title of long-serving Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew’s book, “From Third World to First: The Singapore Story, 1965-2000” chronicles a transformation that remains a marvel.

Nature again takes center stage, this time in Praslin, Seychelles, called the “green pearl of the Indian Ocean.” It’s known for Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve, or Mai Valley National Park, a UNESCO site that overflows with colorful flowers and plants that are unique to this island.

Before 1972, Sri Lanka was known as Ceylon, and Colombo, its capital, has been crisscrossed by maritime visitors throughout the ages, including Arabs, Portuguese, Dutch and British. Today the country is a colorful tapestry of cuisines and cultures.

At a call in Réunion, South Africa, part of the Mascarene Islands (a French overseas department) in the western Indian Ocean, you’ll hear French spoken widely – it was a French colony until 1946 but today is an overseas département of France.

The adventure continues to escalate on a two-day trip from Durban, South Africa, to Port Elizabeth, now called Gqeberha, as guests are introduced to Victoria Falls, which span the breadth of the Zambezi River at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. The breathtaking spectacle drops about 33,000 cubic feet of water per second. To put that in perspective, if a small bathtub holds 4 cubic feet of water, guests will see the equivalent of 8,250 bathtubs of water plunge over the falls every second.

Segment 3: An Ocean of Discovery: The Atlantic Ocean

kimberley cruise tours

Guests will be introduced to a host of fascinating destinations after Cape Town, including Namibia, whose landscape includes desert, mountains and savannas; Angola,  the largest of the Portuguese-speaking countries and blessed with abundant natural resources, including oil; Ghana, formerly a  British colony once called the Gold Coast for its cache of the precious metal and today, rich with natural beauty; and the Gambia, Africa’s  smallest, non-island country known for its beaches and said to be the place from which Kunta Kinte, from Alex Haley’s “Roots,” originated.

Dakar, the national capital of Senegal on the Cape Verde Peninsula, is a hub for West Africa, and although the government plans to move the capital in the coming years, Dakar will remain a popular tourist destination, thanks to its melange of cultures, and its gorgeous beaches.

The Canary Islands and Morocco will be featured prominently in the next segment of travel. Guests will visit Praia, capital of Cabo Verde, a country made up of islands that are nearly 400 miles off Africa;  Arrecife, the main port of Lanzarote Island in the Canary Islands; and Agadir and Casablanca, Morocco, a place forever imprinted in movie-lovers’ minds. A stop in Lisbon, Portugal’s capital and the westernmost capital city in continental Europe, shows off the country’s ascendance as a favorite destination, thanks to the weather, its beaches, its castles and, of course, its fado music.

kimberley cruise tours

At Belfast, Northern Ireland, Silversea guests can attend a musical performance in the Romanesque Cathedral, where its stained glass windows and needlework (including kneelers) reflect both its style and simplicity.

World Cruise 2027 winds up in Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital and home to Tivoli, which is called an amusement park but will give  visitors a generous dose of culture, including musicals, ballet and concerts, as well as a generous helping of botanic beauty that makes it wholly and wonderfully different from the U.S. playgrounds and their mousey mascots.

It is 149 days later, not quite half a year! And certainly enough memories for a lifetime.

And wait! There’s more

kimberley cruise tours

A big part of the allure of a Silversea World Cruise are the special events that provide more context to the places you’re visiting. A team of destination experts design and implement these special events.

“ We love off-the-beaten-path locales that allow us to produce experiences our guests won’t find anywhere else,” Kevin McKeon, Silversea’s experiences and events manager, tells me.

World Cruise 2027, for instance, will focus on the Polynesian Seafarers and invite guests to join in on a what McKeon called a “cultural and culinary journey where, as guests dine, we lead through a reading of the stars,” which Polynesians believed spoke a “language” that communicated how to navigate the waters. They used no maps or charts in those long-ago days but memorized the position of stars to ensure successful and safe passage to and through the 62 million square miles of the Pacific Ocean. Ingenuity and innovation opened the way for travelers for generations to come.

kimberley cruise tours

McKeon also is excited about an overland trip to Victoria Falls. “The ability to take our guests deeper into southern Africa,” he says, “and immerse them in nature, the way [Scottish explorer] Stanley Livingstone found it, presents a great opportunity to deliver on our mission of ‘Traveling Deeper in Luxury.’ The experience includes two nights in luxury accommodations, sunset river cruises along the Zambezi River and memorable dining experiences await our World Cruise guests.

Producing such special events is never easy, McKeon acknowledges, but he and Jannie Cloete, the director of Silversea events and experiences, make it look that way, thanks to hard work, countless hours and millions of details woven into the creation of  these once-in-a-lifetime events.

“I often think about my second day on the job at Silversea, meeting Jannie at ‘Opera in the Quarry’ in a limestone quarry outside of Cape Town, South Africa,” McKeon recalls. “The scale, attention to detail and Jannie’s delivery of the event demonstrated to me that Silversea truly is the leader in experiential travel.

“It set me on this course, and  I’ve never looked back.”

Now it’s not uncommon for our guests to embark with some uncertainty about flying in a helicopter – however it’s always a different story when the time comes for disembarkation.

“Wow – who would have thought, I have never been in a helicopter before, now I can’t get enough. I can’t speak highly enough about the whole operation, I felt completely safe and I could not have hoped to have seen all that I saw if we didn’t have a helicopter onboard.”

The ship’s helicopter helps you to climb mountains and volcanoes in air conditioned comfort. Even if you are not as spritely as you once were – the helicopter will deliver you without fuss to even the most inaccessible locations.

See ancient rock art without leaving your seat. Glide over impenetrable jungle and swoop on historic and cultural highlights. Take someone special on a sunrise flight or join the entire guest compliment for an unforgettable heli-picnic.

7 amazing cruise itineraries to book in 2024

I don't know about you, but each year, as the weather turns cold, I start daydreaming about getting out of Dodge — or, in my case, Pennsylvania. My mind wanders to cruises that will take me to places where the temperature is warmer, but I also take a hard look at the (exceptionally lengthy) list of places I'm longing to visit.

After digging through what's new for 2024, I've come up with a shortlist of sailings that I think are noteworthy. They range from a standard Bahamas voyage with a new twist and an extended Alaska sailing that includes a foray across the Arctic Circle to more far-flung destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Dream on, dear reader, and add these to your list of 2024 cruise itineraries.

Note: All prices listed are per person, based on double occupancy, unless otherwise noted. Fares do not include taxes and fees.

Seabourn's 'Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas' itinerary

Last year, the Australia and New Zealand cruise region gained momentum following the pandemic shutdown. In 2024, the hardly populated Australia region of The Kimberley is gaining popularity. Luxury cruise brand Seabourn will be offering a series of six 10-night voyages between Broome and Darwin on expedition vessel Seabourn Pursuit during what will be early winter in the southern hemisphere.

The line's " Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas " will take passengers to places along the coast few passengers are able to visit to see the stunning teal waters and horizontal waterfalls of Talbot Bay, sample wines in the Hunter River Region and check out nature preserves in Wyndham.

Details: The first sailing, from Darwin to Broome, embarks on June 12. The final voyage, from Broome to Darwin, departs on Aug. 1. Prices start from $6,134 per person ($613 per person, per night), double occupancy, for the July 2 cruise. All accommodations are suites with balconies.

Celebrity's 'Best of Japan' and 'Vietnam and Thailand' cruises

The number of voyages in Asia was trending upward notably prior to 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought cruising in the region to an extended halt. And it's once again on the rise. Following that curve, Celebrity Cruises will be running new 11- to 13-night Asia sailings in 2024 on two ships — Celebrity Millennium and Celebrity Solstice — that bring stops in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Thailand.

What's notable about the offerings is that they will aim to immerse passengers further into the destinations by including overnights in a total of 11 ports across all itineraries. That means more time to explore Hanoi's Old Quarter as the sun sets, indulge in nighttime gastronomy in Hong Kong, visit one of Bangkok's many markets, or learn why Osaka is known for street food.

Details: Celebrity Millennium's " Best of Japan " cruises run from early mid-March to early October. At press time, the least expensive fares — for a 12-night sailing — start from $1,330 per person ($111 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. It travels round-trip from Yokohama and visits Hiroshima, Pusan and other ports, including Osaka, where the ship will overnight.

Celerbrity Solstice's Vietnam and Thailand cruises kick off in mid-January and run through March. The ship will resume them again in the fall of 2024 and run through the winter season. Prices start from $1,255 per person ($105 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. The voyage sails from Hong Kong to Singapore with stops in Da Nang and Koh Samui, plus overnights in Hanoi and Bangkok.

SeaDream's 'Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles' sailing

Here's one to put on your radar if you're looking to book — but not necessarily sail — in 2024. It's a new Mediterranean itinerary that doesn't start up for nearly three more years, in 2026. The SeaDream routing brings stops at seven ports that are rarely visited by cruise passengers. During the seven-night voyages, there will be calls at Primosten, Croatia; Cesme, Turkey; Cetubal, Portugal; and Kythira, Kythnos, Syvota and Tinos, Greece — making these sailings unique and well-suited to anyone who loves the region but who's looking for new places to experience.

SeaDream's small ships, each of which carries just 112 people, are able to reach locales about which passengers on megaships can only fantasize. Couple that with excellent service, and you'll be visiting the Our Lady of Loretto statue in Primosten, touring the Cesme Castle and lounging on stunning Greek beaches from a home base that puts you squarely in the lap of luxury.

Details: An itinerary that includes three of the seven new ports is the 11-night " Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles " itinerary from Venice, Italy, to Athens, Greece, departing on Aug. 8, 2026, on SeaDream I. Prices start from $10,399 per person ($946 per person, per night) for a room with a porthole view.

Holland America's 'Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice' Legendary Voyage

Alaska is an absolute must for anyone who enjoys the vastness of untouched wilderness, the wildlife it houses and adventurous pursuits it provides. (Think whale-watching, hiking on glaciers and salmon fishing.) However, Holland America 's Westerdam is hosting a 28-day sailing that's anything but your standard cruise to the Last Frontier .

Passengers will visit the usual Alaska ports, such as Ketchikan, Sitka and Juneau, with scenic sailing through the Inside Passage, past Hubbard Glacier and to Glacier Bay. But they can also expect less-common stops at places like Nome, Kodiak, Anchorage (with an overnight) and Homer. Plus, about halfway through, this cruise crosses the Arctic Circle — a rite of passage for many travelers.

Details: Holland America's 28-day " Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice " cruise — one of the line's Legendary Voyages, known for longer durations and a unique mix of port calls — sails June 9-July 7, round-trip from Seattle. Inside cabins start from $5,299 per person (about $189 per person, per night).

Silversea's summertime French Polynesia cruises

Another consideration for future travel is Silversea Cruises , which is featuring its first full-summer season in French Polynesia in 2026. Silver Whisper will offer two immersive itineraries, including overnights, across 17 voyages between April and September.

Passengers can choose seven-night sailings that visit idyllic favorites like Tahiti, Moorea and Huahine and which also include overnights in Bora Bora. Or, they can cruise for twice as long by selecting a 14-night voyage that calls on the same ports as the seven-night option but with Fakarava, Nuku Hiva, Fatu Hiva, Atuona and Tahuata added.

Details: Silversea's seven-night voyages begin April 6, 2026, and start from $5,650 per person ($808 per person, per night) for an ocean-view cabin.

The line's 14-night sailings start on April 20, 2026. Fares start from $10,450 per person ($747 per person, per night) for ocean-view accommodations.

New Bermuda voyages on Carnival Venezia

Beginning in May of 2025, Carnival Cruise Line 's Carnival Venezia will sail a series of eight four- and five-night cruises to Bermuda from New York. These itineraries are notable because the line is aiming to increase its presence there but also because the style of the ship is new to even most of the brand's most dedicated passengers.

In 2022, Carnival announced its Costa by Carnival concept after revealing it would be transferring ships from its Costa sister brand to the Carnival fleet. Now, when travelers visit the Gibb's Hill Lighthouse or check out the island's renowned pink-sand beaches during a sailing on Carnival Venezia, they can enjoy both the Italian style of the ship and Carnival's fun atmosphere and high service standards.

Details: Voyages kick off on May 22, 2025. Prices start from $429 per person ($108 per person, per night) for an inside cabin on a four-night cruise departing Sept. 18, 2025.

Disney Cruise Line's Lighthouse Point itineraries

Disney Cruise Line 's new Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point , a private destination on the Bahamian island of Eleuthera, is set to open in June with a three-night preview sailing on June 6 aboard Disney Magic. Following the initial voyage, the line will run regular three- to seven-night voyages to Lighthouse Point on Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream.

The island will feature a dedicated family beach and water play area, an arts and culture pavilion focused on Bahamian culture, 20 family cabanas, an adults-only beach and a selection of shore excursion options.

Details: Prices for itineraries that include Lighthouse Point start from $624 per person ($208 per person, per night) for a three-night cruise on Disney Magic. The cruise departs Nov. 5 and sails from Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
