They can be hunted, but any items harvested from them are considered stolen, as horses belong to the villagers. Poaching is also a crime , so Henry should be careful about who sees him, or who he tries to sell to.

All horses have different strengths and weaknesses, and you should select the horse that best suits your needs (and budget). Henry may equip his horse with different types of horse tack , such as saddles , bridles , spurs and horseshoes , to improve their stats. If your steed is to go into battle, consider obtaining some horse head armour or body armour , or even just a caparison .

  • Speed: The speed of your horse determines how fast it can walk, trot, canter and gallop.
  • Capacity: Capacity is the total weight your horse can carry (as a means of mobile storage).
  • Courage: Your horse's courage is how much sound and fury it can withstand before it bolts.
  • Stamina: Your horse's stamina will deplete during a gallop. You will have to give your horse a breather every once and a while, otherwise he will buck you off onto the ground.
  • Health: Your horse's health works much like your own, although your horse can never die. When its health drops to zero your horse will stay on the ground until its health regenerates.

There are also a lot of generic horses simply named "Horse" that are not listed here. You can ride them, but not make them your own.

W

  • 1 These horses are quest related, although you can mount them, you cannot make them your own.
  • 2 These horses were added with DLCs and are not part of the base game.
  • 3 These horses are temporally owned, and the player can call them and store items on them. However, the player will lose "owned" access to them at some point.
  • Most of the game's horses are named after horses from various mythologies and literature from around the world - with the exception of Warhorse Jenda, who is named after a developer's dog Jenda, and the name of the game's creators, Warhorse.
  • Despite some of the different horses being referred to as males or females, all horses are modeled as stallions, as they all have visible penile sheathes. This may be a developer oversight, or it was simpler to recolour one stallion model than make individual models for mares.
  • The corpses of horses that you kill will remain scattered throughout the countryside.
  • Pebbles is given to the player for free upon starting The Hunt Begins , though the player may still purchase another horse before initiating The Prey if they managed to scrounge enough groschen. Note that horses purchased before Pebbles will not come with free horse tack - Pebbles will however come with a Plain Saddle and Plain bridle .

Kingdom Come: Deliverance horse riding - how to get a horse, find horse armour, and buy a horse explained

All the info you need on horses and horse armour in Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance horse riding and horses are one of the most important aspects to master, with horses the primary means of long-distance transport - outside of fast travel that is - and likewise a helpful way to avoid or gain advantage in combat, and even expand your inventory.

Here on this page we'll explain how to get a horse in Kingdom Come: Deliverance , as well as how to get horse armour, and where to buy a horse of you're looking for an upgrade.

How to get a horse in Kingdom Come: Deliverance

There are several ways you can get yourself a horse in Kingdom Come: Deliverance , some of them legitimate, and some of them not.

kcd fast travel horse

The easiest ways to get your hands on a horse come right towards the beginning of the game where you'll encounter three chances to ride one, with some of those chances to keep it for good, too.

In the mission "Run!":

The first time you get a chance to get a horse is in your escape from the starting village, Skalitz, in the mission "Run!". This one's only temporary however, but if you're struggling to find one they're simply located at the end of the dirt path that leads out from the castle down the hill, where you get a chance to save Theresa.

Before you escape from Talmberg castle:

After that chaotic opening, you'll find yourself tasked with leaving Talmberg - only the castle gate remains locked and guarded.

In the process you'll need to get yourself a set of Talmberg guard armour, but once you've got that you can also nab yourself a horse, which seems to be the same one you rode in on. It's in the town stable, which is in the courtyard of the castle itself. Hop on - the one that says "Horse - Mount" is yours, not the one that says "Horse - Steal - Mount", which clearly isn't.

After completing the quest "The Prey" in Rattay:

Third, after you've left Talmberg in the main story, if you follow the main quest you'll eventually find yourself in Rattay, a larger settlement and the home of some more quests.

Proceed through the main story and you'll get to a quest called The Prey, which tasks you with hunting for Sir Hanush. Complete it, and Sir Radzig with reward you with your own horse! It's a pretty basic one with some rather low stats, but it's more than suitable for now, and certainly until you can muster up the coin for buying a better one.

Another way to get a horse is by half-inching it for yourself. There are two ways to go about that - stealithy, from a stable, or via combat with a mounted foe, like a travelling knight, who you manage to defeat. It's a bit of a grey area as to whether or not that counts as stealing per se.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance - how to buy a horse

You can buy a horse from various horse traders around the game world. The first chance you get seems to be in Neuhof, and you'll notice the horses here have significantly higher stats than the one you got from the main story earlier on.

kcd fast travel horse

You can buy one as soon as you have the coin and reach the settlement - but it might be better to wait even longer, with there being quite a step up in stats as you get to the higher "levels" of horses on offer.

We're aware of three traders in the game, one in Neuhof, one in Uzhits and one in Merhhojoed, which sell a total of twenty horses between them.

kcd fast travel horse

The horses have fixed names and stats, so are somewhat unique characters of their own. Some are faster, others have more endurance, or carry capacity, so which one you buy is down to your own preferences in a way.

Originally it seemed as though you couldn't actually match up the specific horses to their stats - there are lots of inspectable (and stealable) horses in stables nearby traders but they don't have names of their own - but actually it just takes a little extra searching (thanks, EG commenters!). This can still take a little while though - but it wouldn't be Kingdom Come if they didn't make you do it the old-fashioned way.

It's also worth quickly noting that when you first go to a couple of towns, like Neuhof, in the main quest their horses will have been killed by some incident there. After sorting out that quest though the stock of horses from the trader will be replenished.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance horse armour location - how to get and where to find horse armour

There are two ways you can outfit your horse in Kingdom Come: Deliverance - first, with various gear like caparisons, that's more aesthetically inclined and readily available from horse traders, and second with the very rare horse armour that so far has only been found in one place: a giant nest, which seems like a Witcher 3 easter egg to us.

kcd fast travel horse

If you're here, you're probably after the latter. Here's how and where to find the only set of horse armour in Kingdom Come: Deliverance so far:

1. Head to Ledechko, and travel east along the base of the cliffs.

kcd fast travel horse

2. Look for a space to start climbing - but be careful, one fall is normally fatal here, so try to do this after sleeping and saving. Look for a bunch of bushes near the base of the climb which you need to head through - they're marked in the image above.

kcd fast travel horse

3. You now need to work your way diagonally up the hill through the woods, until you come out in to the open, with a giant nest up ahead.

kcd fast travel horse

4. To get to the nest, you need to do some awkward platforming - get on top of the bush, which supports your weight, just next to the nest. From there, you can hop up into it, where you'll find a horse's body.

kcd fast travel horse

Loot the horse and you'll find the special horse armour, as well as some other handy loot. Equipping it grants your horse 15, 15, and 10 in the three categories of attack, and some protection to its face and neck. Handy!

Brest perk, horse carry weight or faster?

Can’t decide on that one, I am definitely a hoarder so carry weights what I’m leaning toward but I don’t want a slow horse either. Hmmm. Tough one.

Depends on whether you favor carrying maximum loot or travelling at fast speeds. Keep in mind that the horse you are given initially is rather mediocre, you can purchase much better horses from the traders.

What did you go for ?

I picked racehorse. You can already travel faster manually than by ‘fast-travel’ if you have a horse, and racehorse makes it even faster. You can buy a better horse with more carry capacity, and if you upgrade your character abilities as well then between you and the horse, you can haul a lot of loot. Also, you can ride your horse even if Henry is carrying too much weight- although this may be a bug.

Well you convinced me. And that’s exactly why I created this thread to get an informed good answer. Cheers mate. Plus If you think about it speed is kinda more unique, what I mean is there’s ways round weight issues, like don’t carry hardly anything and stuff. Speeds a bit more special.

And being I don’t like fast traveling . Speed it is.

I just got the racehorse perk with Sleipnr, i have the best horseshoes and carry bags. Capacity: 460 -> 408 Speed : 50 -> 65 My opinion; Worth, with 400 capacity on the horse, and 200 on my character, i feel the speed is more valuable.

I went with speed in the end. Carry weight can be overcome easily, speed is more special I you get what I’m saying. Just a more unique perk than letting you carry a few more items.

I’m going to disagree with everyone and say carry weight. More carry weight = more loot at one time = more money = better armor and weapons vs. taking 30-60secs longer to get somewhere…

+1 for carry more weight.

My reasoning is it’s easy to dump stuff onto horse or stash, it’s not easy to get more speed apart from better horses but then just means best horses will be faster, as long as you manage weight I don’t think I’ll need extra carry weight, I allready got perks and saddle so can carry more than I need

This is one of my biggest dilemmas. Even though Jenda is too fast and most of the times I don’t use her at full speed, I’m afraid that I’m going to cripple her by removing speed. Don’t know even if it is worth it the extra carriage capacity. Too bad that there are no reasons to preserve the speed of a horse, I mean you don’t get chased by mounted bandits to consider a fast horse as a solution so I lean to cap>speed. All that considering I’m using Jenda. Can’t say I would lower the speed of a lower tier horse.

Hmm not got jenda yet. Where you get that horse ?

I got the cheapest horse money could buy ATM lol.

Neither because all of the perks break the game especially late game…

:stuck_out_tongue:

Jenda has a penis btw

What a big one ?

I would go for the racehorse. You can Increase the capacity with saddlebags but the speed will be decreased. So going for the racehorse and a noble saddle is the best thing to in my opinion. I have Pebbles and a noble saddle with 4 bags. I can carry circa 330 and Pebbles is still fast. But I think you already made your decision.

The brest perk is probably for your horse to have boobs, but that’s just my humble opinion

Kingdom Come: Deliverance guide: How to ride a horse

How to trot, canter and gallop

by Jeffrey Parkin

kcd fast travel horse

As Kingdom Come: Deliverance ’s illuminated manuscript-style codex points out, “A dog might be man’s best friend, but you can’t ride one. Better to make friends with a horse!” Early in the game, your life will depend on your horse riding ability, but the game doesn’t give you a chance to practice before you’re running for your life. We’re here to help.

kcd fast travel horse

Right in the middle of your panicked flight out of Skalitz , you’ll get a wall-of-text tutorial about riding horses. If you’re like us, you immediately accidentally dismissed it because the exit button is the same as the sprint button on consoles. We put it above for reference, but it’s worth getting into a little more detail.

You have three speeds while riding a horse in Kingdom Come: Deliverance : trot , canter and gallop .

  • Trot . Trotting is just pushing up on the left analog stick (or W on PC). You can steer left and right and even back up as well. This is your walking pace.
  • Canter . While you’re trotting, hold down circle/B to canter . This is basically a jogging speed. It will drain your horse’s stamina very, very slowly, so it’s a good cruising speed. If you just hold down the circle/B button, your horse will follow whatever road you’re on automatically. (If it doesn’t start cantering along automatically, give it a nudge with the left thumbstick.) You can add in the left thumbstick (or A and D on PC) any time you need to steer or press up (W on a PC) for a little extra speed.
  • Galloping . Galloping requires a circle/B double-click-and-hold along with constant input on the W/left stick . (We bolded that last part because the game doesn’t explain it very well.) This is a flat-out horsey sprint that drains the horse’s stamina (but not as fast as you’d expect). It’s good to use if you’re fleeing for your life or just in a hurry to get somewhere.

It’s also important to note that you steer your horse with only the left thumbstick (or the PC equivalent). It doesn’t matter which way Henry is looking. The horse is going to go its own version of forward. This takes a second to get used to just because it’s different from Henry’s controls.
