Travel Grants

fully funded travel opportunities 2023

Just one trip, the right people, and great ideas can spark enduring partnerships between communities in the Americas.

Travel is powerful: It shatters prejudices and opens individuals up to new cultures, ideas, and ways of thinking. Travel is often a means to connect the right people and ideas necessary to enact social change. This program is funded by the U.S. Department of State with implementation support by Partners of the Americas.

Each year, we award professional travel grants through our Education and Culture program to members of Partners of the Americas. The grants fund international travel for qualified members to visit other Partners of the Americas Chapters and Organizational members to work together on areas of mutual interest, supporting public diplomacy. Applicants who have not traveled and Chapters that have not had travelers are encouraged to submit an application!

In accordance with the U.S. Department of State priority areas, we fund travel grants activities that closely align with one or more of the following goals through public diplomacy:

  • Civil Society Engagement
  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA)
  • Environmental Protection and Resilience
  • Inclusive Economic Growth and Entrepreneurship
  • Language Learning/Language Teaching
  • Leadership Capacity Building
  • Media Literacy/Countering Disinformation

Other travel themes (such as art) can be funded, but must be closely tied to 1 or more of the above themes. It is recommended to only pick 1-2 themes. A strong proposal is clear and concise.

“GIVE changed my entire life. From the very first day of reaching the island of Zanzibar, I saw the world in a different light. The cliche expectations of serving others and volunteering were achieved but I had no idea that I would experience the best 2 weeks of my life. Giving is a lot more than monetary handouts. If you want to change the world, go and get your hands a little dirty. But trust me when I say that the locals will help you more than you could ever help them. Don’t sit and wonder what it’s like or ask others what it’s like. Go. Go and give your time and effort with the best organization you could find.” – Chase, Tanzania.

“I completed the WILD course this past March, and it was one of the best experiences I have ever had as a student. I honestly did not think I could learn as much as I did within one week, and the course was a perfect balance of learning and fun. Not only did we get to learn in the classroom, but we would venture out into the Cascade Mountains and do real-time Wilderness First Aid scenarios, which solidified our knowledge of the topics we discussed. The lodge staff was so kind and went above and beyond to ensure we had a comfortable stay, and the fellow students I met during the course were awesome and we have stayed in-touch with one another since! Those running the course were not only great teachers, but created an inspiring, nurturing, and fun environment for each student to step into their own leadership roles.” – Haylie, WILD

and why we do what we do

  • Our Mission & Methodology

GIVE’s Mission:  To inspire growth, empower global citizens,  and ignite sustainable change worldwide .

Give’s promise: people, projects & principles above profit.

With over 10 million people volunteering abroad each year and more than a  thousand different organizations offering volunteer programs abroad, it’s no surprise that one of the most common questions we hear is, “What makes GIVE different?”  In fact, it was  this very question that inspired GIVE’s founding in 2011.  After  witnessing the good, the bad and the downright ugly sides of the volunteer  tourism industry, we ultimately determined that there is real potential for international volunteers to have positive impacts in lower-income countries, but it would require a fresh, focused approach to truly foster sustainable change. That’s why we’ve made  a   lasting commitment to put  people, projects and principles above profit.   SEE MORE

GIVE’s Family: Happy People Sail Fast

This principle is clearly manifested in both our host community members and volunteers, and it all starts with our unrivaled team of staff. The GIVE family is a concept we’ve fostered since day one, as we’ve established a clear pipeline for international staff to learn and grow over several years of experience in the field. All of our international staff started as GIVE volunteers, gained necessary certifications and skill sets during GIVE’s WILD course, went on to increase their involvement as in-country interns, and are now facilitating an unparalleled volunteer experience as GIVE Guides and Project Coordinators. We are also proud to employ local Guides and Project Coordinators in each of our destinations, who act as a critical link between our volunteers and the communities we empower. These are truly some of the most passionate, responsible and inspiring human beings on the planet! SEE MORE.

8 ways to find free or subsidized travel in 2022

Grants, teaching programs and seasonal jobs can help unattached travelers looking to fund their adventures

fully funded travel opportunities 2023

Even if you’re backpacking on a shoestring budget or hostel-hopping through Europe, you have to spend money to travel. There’s the price of eating and sleeping on the road, plus the financial toll of leaving your job, children, pets or other responsibilities behind.

Fortunately for people with flexibility in their schedules — and even more flexibility with their relationships — there are ways to finagle free (or even paid) travel, particularly for artists, scuba divers, animal lovers, teachers and lucky contest winners.

There’s always a catch, of course, whether it’s working your way through a trip or producing something to show from your experience by the end.

Here are eight ways to see the world on someone else’s dime.

You tested positive in a foreign country. Here’s what you should do.

Sign up to be a sitter

Have you always dreamed of visiting Boston but can’t afford a hotel? Do you want access to the slopes of Tahoe without paying peak-season rates? Generally responsible people can find gigs caring after homes and pets. Companies like Nomador and TrustedHousesitters connect people who love to travel with people who need help looking after their homes or pets in exchange for room and board. There are blogs dedicated to this lifestyle for people looking to learn more about the opportunity before jumping into a trip.

Apply for a travel grant

Just like scientists who apply for research funding, you can try to get a grant to sponsor your travel goals. Scoring one is tough, as not many exist, and many people want free travel.

One way to find them is by entering terms like “grant” or “travel grant” into a search engine alongside topics that relate to your job, interests or field of study.

For example, a quick search of “scuba diving grant” will pull up more than $500,000 in grants and scholarships for divers, according to the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. Try “grants for hikers,” and you will find options such as the American Alpine Club’s McNeill-Nott Award , offering $5,000 a year to female amateur climbers and alpinists (applications are open Oct. 1 through Dec. 31).

There are also widely known grants, such as the Fulbright-National Geographic fellowship that offers U.S. students a paid year of “storytelling on a globally significant theme.” Grantees — or “storytellers” — get standard Fulbright benefits covering travel, health care and a general stipend, plus a reporting allowance and additional materials. They will also get instruction on storytelling techniques by National Geographic staff before they start their adventure. They will have the chance to pitch stories for the publication’s platforms. Although applications are closed for the 2022-2023 competition, you can apply for the 2023-2024 year when applications open this April .

Adventure awaits in Central America. Now it just needs tourists to return.

Teach English

An old-school route for travelers is to become an English teacher abroad. A good place to start your search for opportunities is TEFL, a membership network that provides accreditation and offers a connection to more than 30,000 employers, according to its website. Members can access jobs around the world, whether they want to work four hours a day in Moscow or full time in Santiago, Chile.

Another route is online teaching. Because of the pandemic, there are more online English teaching jobs that could enable you to work from anywhere you would like to travel. Teachers with Magic Ears earn between $22 and $26 per hour, for example.

A viral TikTok showed how to get $1,000 if you’re bumped from a flight. We unpack that.

Study microelectronics from an RV

Roadtrip Nation is sending three people on a three-week RV trip across the country in the name of microelectronics. They are looking for applicants who want to pursue a career focused on microelectronics, semiconductors and microchips, so if you’re into AI or adaptive manufacturing, this gig is for you.

The trip — set to begin in May, although it could get shifted depending on the pandemic — will be filmed, resulting in a documentary that may end up shown on public television. All expenses will be covered, and road trippers will also get a daily stipend. Applications are due Feb. 6 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time.

Become an ‘artist-in-residence’

For the creative set, one opportunity for free or subsidized travel is an artist residency.

The National Parks Arts Foundation (NPAF) lists opportunities that support visual artists, writers, musicians, and other creatives, typically for about two to four weeks. One such gig is the Death Valley National Park artist-in-residency program that has two residencies each year. Artists get a $3,000 stipend and are housed (and fed) in a hotel right inside the park.

For writers, there is the chance to stay in a “poet’s cottage” in Central Pennsylvania through the Philip Roth Residence in Creative Writing . The program gives recipients four months of time to work, plus a stipend of $5,000. Applicants must be writing their first or second book of fiction or creative nonfiction. The deadline for applications is Feb. 1.

Retreat to Peterborough, N.H., for the MacDowell program, which invites emerging and established artists and provides accommodations, use of a studio and three prepared meals per day for as many as six weeks. Applicants must work in disciplines including architecture, film or video arts, interdisciplinary arts, literature, music composition, theater and visual arts. The deadline for fall residency applications is Feb. 10.

Traveling to Europe? What to know about 5 countries during omicron.

Become a flight attendant

Should a career change suit you, you may want to consider becoming a flight attendant. With airlines’ labor shortage and staffing issues, many are hiring flight attendants — and offering bonuses and extra pay — to make sure flights can take off on schedule. And, obviously, the job is all about travel.

Several big names are hiring right now, including American Airlines , United and Delta . But there are flight attendant openings from lesser-known regional and corporate carriers, too.

How 3 travelers with disabilities or chronic illness navigate the world

Find a seasonal job

Like airlines, tourist destinations have been hurting for staff throughout the pandemic. Cool Works is a seemingly endless portal of seasonal jobs that appeal to travel lovers, including operating a gondola at a Telluride ski resort, becoming a chef right outside a national park or tending to a historic Cape Cod inn . The website features openings in categories broken down by type of job — brewery, winery and distillery, camp jobs or general labor, for example — as well as season or location, help wanted now, interesting regions and more.

If you have dreamed of shadowing a pasta maker in Italy or learning about permaculture in Malawi , you can also pick up short-term gigs working just about anywhere in the world through WWOOF, the Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms. Founded in 1871, the organization features opportunities in more than 130 countries. WWOOF’s mission is to connect travelers with organic farmers in the spirit of cultural and educational exchange while promoting good farming and sustainability practices.

Apply to live rent-free in Sicily

In its latest marketing stunt, Airbnb is offering one lucky applicant the opportunity to spend a year rent-free in the rural village of Sambuca in Sicily. The concept was inspired by Sambuca’s 2019 “1 Euro House” campaign that aimed to solve the town’s declining population problem by enticing new investments through cheap real estate. If you win, you will have to list one of the rooms of the house on Airbnb. You may also be able to learn Italian through a mentorship program.

50+ Fully Funded Scholarships for International Students to Study Abroad for Free

50+ Fully Funded Scholarships to Study Abroad for free

Today, I’ll tell you more than Fifty Fully Funded Scholarship opportunities around the world specifically in Canada, UK, US, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe (Hungary, Portugal, Austria, Romania, Ireland, Italy, Norway, and Germany).

I will only be sharing scholarships that will cover your 100% tuition and scholarships that will cover your tuition, accommodation, travel, books, groceries, meals, medicinal costs and go on to even pay you a monthly stipend for your personal expenses.

Basically, I won’t sharing any partial scholarships in this video which can cover your tuition anywhere from 10% to 90% because there are literally so many of them and it would take me years to cover them all as almost all universities in the world offer some form of scholarship to their students.

Before moving forward, if you’re like me who prefers videos and graphics over text, you can watch my video on the same topic down below 👇.

The 100% scholarships I will be sharing today are the ones I found out while I was applying to universities abroad. In high school, I knew my family won’t be able to afford my education in foreign universities and so I said to myself “I will study at any university as long as it offers me a full tuition scholarship or a full ride scholarship.” And so I researched and found out all these scholarships which I will be sharing with you today.

Obviously, I didn’t apply to all of them and I won’t recommend you to do so but since this year’s college admission cycle has already begun, I thought my scholarship list would be a lot helpful for you guys looking to fulfill your dreams but are not aware of these wonderful scholarship opportunities.

Types of Scholarships

Even though I am saying fully funded scholarships or 100% scholarships, what I really mean is full financial assistance offered by different universities, countries, foundations and private organizations in the form of scholarships, financial aid, bursaries, initiatives, stipends etc.

These methods of financial assistance are pretty much the same in the way that someone is giving you money to complete your studies, but there are major differences in the expectations, eligibility criteria, application process, terms and conditions, deadlines and consideration of your family’s financial situation. Therefore, you’ll find official links to all the scholarships down below. Don’t forget to check them out for specific details and don’t forget to read them thoroughly before applying.

Now before we get started, I’d like to tell you that these scholarships are only for students who are starting their undergraduate studies after completing high school and they are not for transfer students or graduate students.

Moreover, there are a lot of scholarships specifically for American Students, European Citizens, ASEAN citizens, students from developing nations, but in this post, I have tried my best to share scholarships that are open to all nationalities and international students from anywhere in the world can apply to them, but in some cases local students who are residing in the same country, where the scholarships is being offered are not eligible to apply.

Ok, that’s enough for details. Here are 50+ Fully Funded Scholarships.

University of Toronto (Lester B. Pearson Scholarship)

– Fully Funded – Official Link

I have already created a detailed post on the Lester B. Pearson Scholarship, covering every aspect of its application process, eligibility criteria, essay questions, selection process etc., if you’re interested do check it out down below.

University of British Columbia (International Scholars Program)

The UBC International Scholars Program consists of the following 4 need-and-merit-based awards:

  • Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award
  • Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award
  • International Impact Award
  • Vantage One Excellence Award

If you’re selected as a UBC International Scholar, you’ll be given one of the above mentioned awards. Every year, UBC offers approximately 50 scholarships across all four awards.

University of Montreal (UdeM Exemption Scholarship for International Students)

– 100% Tuition – Official Link

Concordia University (Concordia Presidential Scholarship)

Again, I’ve written an extremely detailed post on this full-ride scholarship opportunity, covering all aspects of the scholarship from the eligibility requirements, and application process to selection criteria and tips to win. If you’re interested, do check the post down below 👇

How to Get Concordia Presidential Scholarship (Ultimate Guide)

– Zero Tuition Fee – Official Link

Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich

Technical university of munich, humboldt university of berlin.

There are approximately 180 more universities in Germany like the four I mentioned above where no tuition fee needs to be paid because most German universities follow a free tuition system where no matter where you are coming from, you’ll not to asked to pay a cent for your education. There is a great post by My German University listing 180+ German Universities with no tuition fee, you should definitely check it out if you are planning to apply in Germany.

Check Here 👉 180+ Tuition-free Universities In Germany Taught In English

And this is not it, all Nordic Nations (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden), offer international students the opportunity to study for free at any public institution regardless of their study level or nationality.

I thought it was worth mentioning these free tuition universities because they are pretty much full tuition scholarships without any condition.

✅ Full Tuition Scholarship = No Money For Tuition ✅ Free Tuition Universities = No Money For Tuition

UNITED KINGDOM

Ok, let’s move onto the last country for today.

University of Oxford (Reach Oxford Scholarship)

University of cambridge (cambridge trust).

The Cambridge Trust Scholarships is only for UK Undergrad students and PHD International students. Unfortunately, Cambridge University DOESN’T offer any full ride scholarship to international students.

University College London (United World College and International Students’ House Scholarship)

The list isn’t done yet !!

In this post, I have only covered full tuition and full ride scholarships in UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. Basically, all the Tier 1 Countries, but there are many more scholarships for International undergraduate students in Asia which I have covered in a separate post. If you want to know full scholarship opportunities in Asian countries like Japan, China, Korea, Singapore etc., I highly recommend you check out my “100% Scholarships in Asia” post down below 👇.

Check Here 👉 100% Scholarships for International Students in Singapore, Japan, China, South Korea and more.

Also guys, a small request, if you know any other full tuition or full ride scholarship in the countries I have mentioned above don’t forget to share it in the comments below, so we as a community help each other out and fulfill our education dreams together.

Today, I shared full tuition and full ride scholarships in United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe (Ireland, Hungary, Portugal, Austria, Romania, Italy, Norway, Germany). I shared fully funded scholarships for international high students to pursue their undergraduate studies at some of the top universities in the world including but not limited to Harvard University, Stanford University, Caltech, UChicago, MIT, U of T, TUM etc. These full scholarships go from covering all tuition expenses to covering your accommodation, travel, books, groceries, meals, medicinal costs and any other expenses (some even offer you stipends).

That’s it for today guys, I would really appreciate if you could share this post with your family and friends so more students like you and me get to know about these wonderful, life-changing scholarship opportunities.

Thank you so much for sticking around till the end of the post.

See you in the next one.

Good Bye and Take Care.

I wish to study in uk

I need help to study in America

thank you so much for this, but i have a question ,what is a need aware financial aid like the one in the usa?

Need aware scholarships take into account that you are asking for aid and it becomes a factor for admission. For instance, if there are two equally capable students. One needs the scholarship and one doesn’t need it, the one that doesn’t need it will be preferred over a student who wants the scholarship. This is different from need-based where asking for a scholarship is not taken into account, so both students would be treated equally.

Ukraine-Russia war latest: Putin warns Russia could provide long-range weapons to attack West - and issues new nuclear threat

Vladimir Putin has warned he could supply weapons to other nations to strike Western countries in a meeting with international journalists. The Russian president also reaffirmed the country's position on using nuclear weapons. Follow live updates below.

By Nicole Johnston, Asia correspondent in Beijing

Putin's St Petersburg summit comes right out of the same playbook as China's President Xi Jinping.

So how do you get a read on China's geo-political thinking? One way is by wading through the dry and detailed pronouncements of its president, that's where the nuggets are.

In 2022, Xi said: "The world today is undergoing major changes, unseen in a century.

"The most important characteristic of the world is chaos and the trend is likely to continue."

In the world according to Xi, the time is right to reorder global governance with China at its pinnacle, where it belongs. His view is that the US anchored world order is breaking down.

Many countries in the global south are on board with China, chaffing at the dominance of the US led international system and ready to countenance a shake-up.

Russia is in lock step with China.

Both countries need each other. Though Russia needs China more, for trade and diplomatic cover.

In this great power rivalry, the China-Russian axis could draw in other regional disrupters like Iran and North Korea.

If that happens it will be a formidable alliance based on hostility towards the US, sympathy for Russia, a deep fear of subversion and in the case of China, a relentless goal to unify with Taiwan.

Ukraine's main hydropower company says it has initiated proceedings to secure damages for Russia's destruction of the Kakhovka dam and power station a year ago today.

State-run Ukrhydroenergo said it estimates the damage to be around €2.5bn (£2.12bn).

The explosion of the dam on 6 June 2023 - which sent huge amounts of water across swathes of southern Ukraine and left thousands of people without drinking water - was met with global outcry and accusations of a war crime.

"The company's actions aim to compensate for the losses caused by the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant," Ukrhydroenergo said in a statement.

"The company believes that initiating international arbitration process is the most promising way to compensate for the losses."

The firm said Vladimir Putin, his government and other authorised bodies had been informed.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ukrainian first lady Olena Zelenska have arrived in Normandy for an event to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

French President Emmanuel Macron greeted the Ukrainian leader with a hug as he arrived, and the president was applauded as he went to take his place inside the event.

Several other political figures including UK defence minister Grant Shapps embraced Mr Zelenskyy as they greeted him.

Earlier, the Ukrainian president said he was "honoured" to participate in the anniversary event and said he would also take part in "important events and meetings aimed at strengthening our country".

"This event and day serve as a reminder of the courage and determination demonstrated in the pursuit of freedom and democracy," he said.

"Allies defended Europe's freedom then, and Ukrainians do so now. Unity prevailed then, and true unity can prevail today."

Earlier today we reported claims by Russian officials that Ukrainian drones hit an oil refinery and fuel depot in Russian border regions.

Rostov regional governor Vasily Golubev said an overnight drone attack struck the Novoshakhtinsk refinery, causing a fire to erupt.

Meanwhile the governor for Belgorod, a Russian border region which has come under frequent Ukrainian fire during the war, said a drone hit an oil depot and caused an explosion.

No casualties were reported in either attack.

The trial of a US soldier accused of stealing is under way in Russia's far eastern city of Vladivostok.

Staff Sergeant Gordon Black flew to the city to see his girlfriend last month but was arrested after she accused him of stealing from her, US and Russian officials said.

The 34-year-old, who was on leave at the time, faces up to five years in prison if found guilty.

The US army said the soldier had not been given official clearance to travel to Russia's far east.

According to Russian news agency RIA, Sgt Black will give evidence during the trial and respond to the allegations against him.

He has been cooperating with authorities, the report said.

Following today's court session, Sgt Black's girlfriend, Alexandra Vashchuk, told reporters "it was a simple domestic dispute" during which the soldier "became aggressive and attacked" her.

"He then stole money from my wallet and I didn't give him permission to do it," she said.

Joe Biden has just addressed the crowds at the US national D-Day commemoration in Normandy, alongside French president Emmanuel Macron.

The US president began with a retelling of the devastation and evil unleashed on the world by Hitler and told the stories of some veterans in the audience.

"Every one of them knew the probability of dying was real, but they did it anyway," he said.

Mr Biden prayed that America never forgets the importance of alliances, noting NATO as the "greatest military alliance in the history of the world".

"Isolationism was not the answer 80 years ago, and it is not the answer today," he said.

"We know the dark forces that these heroes fought against 80 years ago, they never fade."

He added: "The struggle between dictatorship and freedom is unending. Here in Europe we see one stark example. Ukraine has been invaded by a tyrant bent on domination."

Mr Biden continued: "Make no mistake, the autocrats of the world are watching closely.

"To surrender to bullies, to bow down to dictators, is simply unthinkable. Were we to do that, it means we would be forgetting what happened here on these hallowed beaches.

"History tells us that freedom is not free: If you want to know the price of freedom, come here to Normandy and look."

Russia has detained a French national on suspicion of collecting information on Russian military activity, investigators have said.

The man had visited the country repeatedly over several years, Russia's Investigative Committee said.

He's also said to have held meetings with Russian citizens.

The man has not been named.

The outcome of the US election this November is unlikely to have any impact on Washington's policy towards Russia, Vladimir Putin has said.

In comments cited by the Russian embassy in the UK, the Russian president said the Kremlin does "not think there will be any serious changes".

"You know perfectly well that the current developments in the US are political infighting; they are burning themselves out, their state and their political system," he said.

Democrat Joe Biden and Republican Donald Trump are their parties' presumptive nominees for the looming election.

Several polls are putting Trump ahead of Mr Biden, despite his recent criminal conviction.

Earlier this year, Mr Putin said he would prefer to see Mr Biden re-elected to the White House as he is "more experienced".

But he has also enjoyed a previous good relationship with Trump, who has often praised his leadership.

Hungary will attend a Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland next week despite Budapest strengthening its ties with Moscow.

Foreign minister Peter Szijjarto confirmed at an economic forum in St Petersburg that his country would be represented at the summit on 15 June.

The summit is aimed at building support among dozens of countries for a 10-point peace proposal from Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which includes Russian troops fully withdrawing from Ukrainian territory.

Russia has not been invited, and has branded it a waste of time.

Hungary, an EU and NATO member, has often pushed back against sending Western aid to Ukraine and has been critical of sanctions on Russia.

Vladimir Putin and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban also reaffirmed their commitment to bilateral ties during a meeting in October.
