Model launch date:

The electric Safari is expected to be launched in H1 2024.

Feature list:

The 2024 Safari EV is likely to be based on the facelift of the current version on sale. It could receive a new split headlamp design, redesigned front and rear bumpers, new alloy wheels, and more. 

Inside, the model could come equipped with Level 1 ADAS, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated seats in the first and second row (captain seats version), an electrically adjustable driver seat, and a fully digital instrument cluster.

Battery pack and specifications:

Tata Motors has not revealed the battery pack details or specifications of the upcoming Safari EV. The SUV is expected to arrive with a dual-motor setup. It will be based on the brand’s Gen-2 architecture.

The Safari EV could be offered in three variants, called XM, XZ, and XZ+

The new Safari EV has not been tested by an NCAP body yet.

Competition :

Once launched, the electric Safari will rival the likes of the XUV.e8.

Last Updated on 16th July,24: Engine:  The Tata Safari EV will underpin the Tata Gen 2 architecture. It is also expected to offer an AWD system with a dual motor setup (one on each axle). There is no information available regarding the battery capacity and power yet. 

Mileage:  While the specific details about the Safari EV are still under wraps. But recalling the fact that Tata Safari EV will be based on the active.ev platform that supports battery packs which provide a range between 300 km and 600 km. Taking note of the Safari EV’s big size, it is expected that it will provide a range between 400-500 km on a single charge. 

Dimensions:  However, we have no details with us about the dimensions yet. It is expected that the Safari EV will feature similar dimensions as its ICE counterpart. For reference, it is expected to measure 4668mm in length, 1,922 in width and 1,795 mm in height. 

Exterior and Features: The upcoming Tata Safari EV is expected to get a Harrier-like design with a different front fascia. Additionally, it will get unique lighting units, alloy wheels and some other EV-specific design elements. In terms of features, the Tata Safari EV is expected to offer features such as a big touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and a Level 1 ADAS suite. With the Safari EV, Tata Motors will become the first automaker to launch a three-row SUV in the respective segment. 

Safety:  However, the upcoming electric SUV has not been assessed by BNCAP or GNCAP as of now. It is expected to offer the highest level of safety with features like Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and a 360-degree camera, six or seven airbags, TPMS, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and front and rear parking sensors. 

Colours:  The Tata Safari EV is expected to be offered in dual-tone and single-tone paint schemes. There are no details as yet on the exact colours or shades that will be available. 

Price:  The EV Counterpart of the Tata Safari is expected to be launched at a starting price of Rs. 26.00 lakh, going up to 30 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Motors is set to electrify the SUV market with its anticipated Tata Safari EV, recently spotted during testing on highways. This upcoming SUV is the electric version of the popular 7-seater Safari, signaling Tata’s commitment to electric mobility.

In the spy shots, the Tata Safari EV maintains its robust and spacious appearance, much like its traditional counterpart. I’m using the fifth-gen Honda City, and I am looking to upgrade to a 6- or 7-seater. I will buy it under my company’s lease policy and sell it after the lease ends in four years. Hence, I want a car with good resale value. I have shortlisted the Tata Safari Accomplished+ AT and the Mahindra XUV700 diesel AT. In fact, I even booked the Safari a week ago. However, I’m sceptical about Tata and Mahindra as there are reliability issues. I am also not sure of their resale value and service cost.

Autocar India says: It is true that neither Tata nor Mahindra have bullet-proof reliability like Toyota. Between the two, customer complaints for Tata cars, especially software related, has gone up in recent months. The XUV700 also has niggles, but these are slowly getting sorted out. Between the two, the XUV700 diesel is a better choice largely because of its smoother and more powerful diesel unit. Also, with the recent price cuts, the XUV700 is an even more attractive option.

• MG Windsor EV comes as the SAIC-owned carmaker's third electric car in India, directly challenging Tata Nexon EV. However, with its aggressive pricing and immediate arrival after the Curvv EV it, challenges the Tata electric coupe SUV as well.

JSW MG Motor India launched the MG Windsor EV in the country after a lot of hype. This electric crossover comes as a rebadged iteration of the Wuling Cloud EV and it is also the third electric car from MG in India after the ZS EV and Comet EV . The Indian electric car market has been witnessing an increasing number of products being introduced over the last few years, in both the mass market and luxury segments.

While homegrown Tata Motors holds the lion's share in this space, SAIC-owned British car marque MG Motor too grabbed a lot of attention with its respective electric cars. Just a few weeks ago, Tata Motors launched its latest offering in the Indian electric passenger vehicle market, the Curvv EV , which came as the first mass-market focused coupe electric SUV in the country.

The Tata Curvv EV is priced at a much higher price bracket compared to the MG Windsor EV and meant for different set of consumers. However, with its aggressive pricing and battery subscription program on offer, the MG Windsor EV is expected to throw challenge to the Tata Curvv EV.

MG Windsor EV vs Tata Curvv EV: Price

MG Windsor EV is available in three trim options . The SUV comes available at an introductory price of ₹ 9.99 lakh, while the battery subscription costs ₹ 3.5 per kilometre. However, the complete price list per variant for this EV is yet to be disclosed. The Tata Curvv EV is priced between ₹ 17.49 lakh and ₹ 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

MG Windsor EV vs Tata Curvv EV: Specification

MG Windsor EV is powered by a 38 kWh battery pack. The electric powertrain churns out 134 bhp peak power and 200 Nm of maximum torque. The EV promises up to 331 kilometre range on a single charge.

The Tata Curvv EV is available in two different battery pack options: a 45 kWh and a 55 kWh one. Both the battery pack options come paired with a 165 bhp generating electric motor. The 55 kWh battery pack equipped Curvv EV promises up to 585 km certified range on a single charge, while the 45 kWh battery pack variant offers 425 km range on a full charge. The real-world range for these two variants would be 502 km and 350 km, respectively.
