What a lovely selection of restaurants! I would love to try the Black Pudding at L’Echaude, looks pretty awesome. Also, I am experimental with food so although I am not sure I’d like elk, I think for the sake of experimentation, I might want to pay a visit to Bistro Sous Le Fort for the elk sausages and wild boar egg rolls. Saint-Jean’s traditional poutine also seems to be a good idea, especially if you’re in Quebec!

I clearly missed out on my trip to Quebec,we stayed at the Fremont and ate there as it was a flying visit. I don’t remember it being spectacular but these dishes definitely do. I’m not sure about poutine though even though everyone said we should try it! There were too many other wonderful things to try

My mouth’s watering after reading this! My favourite is the Bistro, just because they have their own beehive; it doesn’t get any better than that! I also love a good croissant to start the day, so would stop by Paillard to grab a freshly baked one.

Wow Quebec is having delicious food options. Your post makes me hungry as all options are very tempting. Those thick cut French Fries with dollops of thick curd are my favorites. Erico Chocolates also look exotic ones.

This food tour looks like a wonderful way to become familiar with Quebec City! I’d love to do something like this where you organize it on your own so that you can spend as much time as you want in each place. I think if I visit Quebec City I’m going to have to go on a diet after, because I seriously want to eat everything that you mentioned. In particular, all the croissants, chocolate, and poutine!

To get a really immersive experience of a city, one needs to experience the local food. Quebec seems to have a wide range of eateries serving some delectable cuisine. Also, it is good to go on a food tour on your own as you have the freedom to plan your itinerary. The list given by you is really wide and interesting. I was riveted to the Croissants of Paillard and tempted by the chocolates of Erico Chocolatier.

Those are some really mouthwatering delicacies , which I would love to hog on. Being a foodie myself, I love to try out local cuisines whenever I travel to a new place. Definitely doing a gourmet food trail, based on your recommendations, when I visit Quebec.

Quebec City is most definitely a foodie city and I loved eating my way through it! My favorites on your list were Snack Bar Saint-John (because of the traditional poutine), Bistro Tournebroche (loved it so much I went twice), Le Chic Shack for the nontraditional poutine (I’m a HUGE poutine fan). Bistro Sous Le Fort was also somewhere I went twice on the same trip for their amazing salmon and maple syrup pie! This is a fabulous list of must-eats!!

It all looks delicious! I had poutine at the Snack Bar. Best in Quebec, I think. I liked the Chic Shack, too. What I didn’t try, but wanted to, was rabbit. I saw it on several menus, and had it growing up, but it’s been a long time. The rabbit “wings” look delicious.

I’m 100% planning to get to Quebec in 2019 and I will be ALL about the food. It is a destination that has been on my list for a while. As a Francophile I absolutely do not want to miss any food opportunities while I am there and you’ve got a great list here to get me started. Heck and probably to get me finished as well!

Who knew that Quebec was so diverse in its foodie tourism! The maple museum was very intriguing for sure, but the Nordic dishes sold me! I am currently having a fetish for all things Norway and may be going this next year. Who knows, maybe I will even be coming up to Quebec sometime soon!

What to expect from the Old Quebec City Food Tour? 

One-of-a-Kind Food Tasting  — The The Old Quebec City Food Tour is a 3-hour guided walking tour, with 5 tasting locations showcasing the passionate food community residing in Old Quebec. Each stop is its own unique foodie universe: from a rustic sugar-shack style experience to a gin distillery, historic monastery and traditional French bakery! The food tastings you’ll enjoy are enough to fill you up like a hearty, satisfying lunch… so be sure to bring your appetite! Some examples of the bites are: a delicious twist on traditional Québécois pea soup and pâté chinois, a bistro style Brisket, mashed potatoes, vegetables and gravy., croissants, maple taffy,  sucre à la crème … and more! All tastings are included in the ticket price.

Historic & Cultural Experience –  The Old Quebec City Food Tour is much more than just a food tour! In between delicious bites, we stop at a variety of historical landmarks and unique Old Quebec sights. We’ll take you to Quebec City’s famous Swiss clock, Dufferin Terrace by the St. Lawrence River, as well as what just might be the tiniest house in North America, and much more! As we walk through the windy streets, the guide will speckle your tour with the city’s quirky and sometimes surprising history! The result is an immersive experience of Old Quebec, both delicious and informative!

We meet at La Buche Restaurant at 49 Saint-Louis Street.

Runs rain or shine, snow or even in extreme snowstorms! (40% of the tour takes place indoors). We highly recommend you bring appropriate clothing for the winter season and sun protection in the summer.

Please note that the Mile End Food Tour includes vegetarian, lactose intolerant and vegan options during the summer season. The Mile End Food Tour is unfortunately  not gluten free friendly in it’s current version.  Please be advised that the food substitutes for the gluten free option are mostly not available on this tour.

If you’re an early bird, we suggest you have a small breakfast before coming. If not, you can also skip your breakfast and come directly to the food tour.

Tickets must be purchased before 10 AM on any given tour date. We recommend booking your tickets in advance as most of the tours tend to sell out.

The number of paid parking spots is limited in the streets of Old Quebec. There is also underground parking available at City Hall. More information will be sent in your booking confirmation email.

Travelling for the Fête nationale du Québec long weekend? The CBSA gives tips for a smoother trip.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) reminds travellers of what to expect when crossing the border for the Fête nationale du Québec long weekend.

Every day, the CBSA works hard to protect Canadians, support the economy and ensure the safe and efficient movement of people and goods across our borders. In 2023, we welcomed over 86M travellers and intercepted more than 72,200 kg of prohibited drugs, cannabis, narcotics, and chemicals, representing an increase of close to 30% from 2022.

The CBSA dedicates significant efforts to planning and preparing for peak periods, including long weekends and summer months. We monitor traveller volumes and plan to minimize border wait times at land ports of entry and at international airports, without compromising safety and security.

Here are some tips to help you plan for your trip:

• Plan ahead, expect delays and check  border wait times . Travellers crossing the border by land are encouraged to cross during non-peak hours such as early mornings. The Monday of a holiday long weekend tends to be the busiest, with longer border wait times.
• Looking for a port of entry’s hours of operation?  Always best to check the official  CBSA Directory of Offices and Services . If you are using a GPS application (such as Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze) to direct you to a port of entry, consider checking different navigation options (such as fastest and shortest routes) to determine the preferred route of travel. In many instances, there are alternative ports of entry within close proximity.
• Have your  travel documents  handy.  Whether travelling by land, air or water, you can help speed up processing times by always coming prepared with your travel documents.
• Save time with   Advance Declaration .  You can make your customs and immigration declaration up to 72 hours in advance of your arrival into Canada at the Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Winnipeg, Halifax, Québec City, Ottawa, Billy Bishop, Calgary, and Edmonton international airports. Data shows that using this tool can reduce time at a kiosk or eGate by up to 50%.
• When  travelling with children ,   it is recommended that the accompanying adult have a consent letter authorizing them to travel with the child if they share custody or are not the parent or legal guardian. Border services officers are always watching for  missing children , and in the absence of the letter, officers may ask additional questions.
• Know your exemption limits.  Returning residents who make purchases or pick up online purchases across the border should be aware of their  personal exemption  limits, including alcohol and tobacco. You are encouraged to use the  CBSA duty and taxes estimator  to help calculate your monies owed on goods purchased abroad.
• Cannabis: Don’t bring it in. Don’t take it out.  Bringing cannabis across the border in any form, including oils containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or cannabidiol (CBD), without a permit or exemption  authorized by Health Canada  is a serious criminal offence subject to arrest and prosecution, despite the legalization of cannabis in Canada. A medical prescription from a doctor does not count as Health Canada authorization.
• Be prepared to declare.  All travellers must declare their goods upon entry into Canada. For returning residents, have your receipts readily available for goods purchased or received while outside of Canada. Travellers should be aware of everything that is inside their vehicle and are responsible for its contents. You are encouraged not to travel with  firearms , but if you choose to do so, be sure to check the  rules on importing firearms  and other restricted and prohibited goods, which includes pepper spray and certain knives.
• Boaters planning to travel in or near Canadian waters, or enter Canada by boat  should review  Reporting requirements for private boaters  before making travel plans. All travellers entering Canada by boat must report to the CBSA without delay.
• Declare any  food, plants, or animals .  Consult the  Automated Import Reference System (AIRS)  on the Canadian Food Inspection Agency website before bringing any food, plant, and animal products into Canada.
• Travelling with medication?  Make sure you understand  your responsibilities .
