AmaWaterways

Active and retired U.S. service members can take advantage of a special military discount of $250 off an AmaWaterways river cruise using the code "MIL250" when booking (excluding Africa safaris and wildlife cruises). You can also combine the discount with other promotions or offers, including the line's Future Cruise Benefits and Loyalty Benefits programs for past guests.

Active U.S. and Canadian military members and veterans receive a $100 onboard credit per cabin on every new booking of a Holland America cruise. Margaritaville at Sea

In 2024, Margaritaville at Sea updated its popular Heroes Sail Free program, renaming it Heroes Sail Free and First.

The new program offers all active and veteran military, first responders, law enforcement officers, medical personnel and educators in the U.S. a free sailing with a paying guest as often as they like throughout the year. The offer applies to sailings aboard Margaritaville at Sea Islander, the line's newest ship, as well as Margaritaville at Sea Paradise.

With the addition of the Heroes Sail First component, qualified passengers also receive an Express Pass, which includes priority embarkation and disembarkation at both home and destination ports, two complimentary welcome beverages, priority luggage delivery and expedited booking assistance for shore excursions for all sailing destinations.

The offer applies to windowless inside cabins only. Any additional cabin guest who does not qualify for the program must pay the standard cruise sailing rate. While the cruise is free, guests are required to pay all port taxes, fees and gratuities.

MSC Cruises

MSC Cruises offers discounted fares to all active and retired U.S. military personnel and family members traveling with them. You can receive a 5% discount on inside and ocean-view cabins, a 10% discount on balcony cabins and suites and a "kids sail free" promotion on select sailings.

Additionally, MSC will not penalize cancellations due to deployment. You will receive a 100% future cruise credit for two years from cancellation (with verification from the commanding officer).

Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line 's Military Appreciation Program provides exclusive benefits to U.S. military members, veterans, the National Guard, reserves and their spouses. Members of the program receive a 10% discount on all cruise fares. It's also combinable with the Free at Sea program, which includes free drinks, airfare for a second guest, Wi-Fi and other perks.

Additionally, NCL's Teacher Cruise Discount offers educators across the U.S. and Canada an exclusive year-round 5% cruise fare discount and $50 onboard credit to use toward spa services, specialty dining and other activities. The teacher discount is also combinable with the Free at Sea program.

The line also runs its Giving Joy contest each May during Teacher Appreciation Week. Winning educators within the U.S. receive a seven-night cruise for two.

Princess Cruises

Princess Cruises extends up to $250 in free onboard spending credit to U.S. and Canadian veterans and active, retired and disabled military personnel. You can apply the credit toward specialty dining, onboard shopping, shore excursions and spa treatments.

Throughout the year, the line also has special promotions for first responders, medical professionals and teachers (no specials were available at the time of publication). Those who qualify can verify their status through Princess' website and sign up to receive notifications of promotions.

Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean offers military rates to active and retired personnel, veterans and their spouses in the U.S. and Canada. The line also extends discounts to police officers (local, state or federal) and firefighters. The discount applies to friends and family members staying in the same cabin as the eligible service member or first responder.

The special rates vary from sailing to sailing, and the best way to access the discount is by booking through a travel agent or directly with Royal Caribbean over the phone.

Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours

​​In 2024, Scenic will offer exclusive discounts and specially curated travel experiences for active and retired U.S. military personnel and their families.

For example, active military and veterans will receive an additional $150 discount on Scenic River cruises, a $150 discount for Emerald Cruises river and yacht sailings and a $250 discount on Scenic Eclipse sailings with proof of current or past military status. The discount can be applied to each passenger.

Additionally, the military discount is combinable with current offers on luxury river and yacht cruises. The offer ends Dec. 31, 2024.

Fortunately, there are ways to narrow the field and stay within budget. First, define your interests, the type of cruise experience you really want and your travel style. Then, factor in such practicalities as budget, departure port and trip length.

Experience an adventurous, exotic cruise

For example, the “Holistic Holiday at Sea” is an annual vegan cruise aboard the MSC Divina in the Caribbean that offers everything from yoga and meditation to fitness classes to wellness lectures led by nutritionists and plant-based experts.  

Or, if running’s your thing, there’s “The Great Alaskan Running Cruise” aboard Royal Caribbean’s Radiance of the Seas, where you can attend coaching sessions and run a 5K or half-marathon in the shadows of the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, Alaska.

Whether it’s going shopping with the chef or taking in some tricks of the trade in the kitchen, culinary theme cruises serve up plenty of variety.

At Windstar Cruises, for example, most every cruise offers free market tours at every port. Join the chefs on shore and visit local markets to choose the local ingredients, seasonal produce, herbs and spices that will be a part of your evening meal back onboard.

For select sailings on Princess Cruises, the Chef’s Table experience takes diners behind the scenes during the height of dinner prep, where they’ll chat with the executive chef while also enjoying Champagne and appetizers on their way to a multi-course tasting dinner.

If you’d rather focus on consuming instead of cooking, the new Virgin Voyages ships replaced their buffets with more than 20 top-quality restaurants and bars onboard, with menus by several award-winning chefs and mixologists.

Independent cruisers are a growing passenger segment—and cruise lines are responding by adding studio cabins, solo lounges and singles-friendly activities to their ships.

Norwegian Cruise Line was one of the first major lines to jump on the solo travel trend, and several others have since followed suit. E very cruise line has its own signature onboard activities, and Princess Cruise is no exception. From its iconic champagne tower to outdoor movie nights, there are experiences that you definitely shouldn’t miss. Here are the top cruise activities on Princess Cruise that you should make sure not to miss out on. The best part is these activities are completely free!

Must-Try Cruise Activities on Princess Cruise

Champagne tower.

One of the highlights of a Princess cruise for me is the champagne tower event. It takes place in the atrium and involves a grand display with hundreds of champagne glasses stacked into a tower. The cruise director starts it off by pouring champagne from the top, creating a mesmerizing cascade. 

The best part is that guests can take turns pouring champagne onto the tower. It’s a lot of fun, and the cruise photographers capture the moment. If there’s one cruise photo worth buying, it’s this one. Trust me, I have a photo of the champagne tower in my home office, and it never fails to make me smile!

Outdoor Movies

Outdoor movies are a must-try activity on Princess Cruises! The movie screenings happen on the pool deck, where the cruise staff creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere for watching movies under the stars.

They transform the pool loungers into a comfortable outdoor movie theater by adding plush seat cushions and cozy blankets for snuggling. To top it off, they serve popcorn for you to enjoy during the movie. It’s truly a unique experience that you shouldn’t miss on Princess Cruises.

Afternoon Tea

Afternoon Tea is one of my favorite onboard activities on Princess Cruises. This elegant service is typically available in one of the main dining rooms on days at sea.

Treat yourself to a spread of freshly baked scones, tea sandwiches, pastries, clotted cream, jams, and a variety of teas. It’s a great way to take a break from the afternoon activities and enjoy an elegant experience onboard. And the best part is, it’s completely free!

Back of the House Kitchen Tour

Don’t miss the free back-of-the-house kitchen tour on Princess Cruise. It’s really interesting to get a sneak peek behind the scenes in the kitchen.

But don’t expect to see a fully operational kitchen during the tour. Instead, you’ll see a clean kitchen with minimal food preparation and cooking activities. Get a tour of where your assistant waiter goes to get your drinks, lock up all the liquor, and where the line cook does their prep.  

When I was on the tour, the pastry chefs displayed elaborate cakes, which was quite impressive. It’s a great experience to see what happens behind the scenes, especially for kids. Some cruise lines charge for a behind-the-scenes kitchen tour, but luckily, Princess Cruise Line offers it for free!

Cooking Demos

The Princess cruise cooking demonstration is a fun activity to go to. It usually takes place on sea days at the Princess Theater.

Unlike some other cruise lines like Holland America, where you might expect a more serious cooking demonstration focused on teaching you how to prepare a dish, the cooking demo on Princess Cruises is more about entertainment than education. It’s a lighthearted, comedic cook-off between the chef and the cruise director. The slapstick comedy makes it fun for the kids! It’s amusing to see the chef in action.

Bartender Competition

The bartender competition on Princess Cruises is a lively event that you don’t want to miss. Held in the atrium on one of the at-sea days, it features talented cruise bartenders competing against each other in expertly mixing drinks and cocktails.

Similar to the cooking demo, it aims to entertain rather than educate. Expect acrobatic stunts, cocktail-making, and mixer juggling. They even choose a few audience members to sample the cocktails for free! It’s a family-friendly activity, so bring the kids. They will enjoy watching the bartenders compete! I Tried the NEW Xponential Fitness Classes on Princess: Find out what I Thought!

Introduction

Many people would rather stab themselves in the eye with a hot poker than exercise in regular life and most wouldn’t exercise on a cruise ship unless it involved a Victorian-style four poster canopy bed in the Captain’s quarters (I can’t be the only one with that fantasy). However, some (weirdos) enjoy keeping up with their fitness routine on vacation and some, like me, use an hour at the gym as justification for the 60,000 calories they eat each day on a cruise.

So on my last cruise aboard the Discovery, I was curious to try the new fitness classes being offered by Princess as part of a new partnership with Xponential Fitness , a global franchisor of boutique fitness brands. The first three classes were launched on February 20th, 2023 and are described by Princess as follows:

• Pure Barre : a full-body workout focused on low-impact, moderate to high-intensity movements that improve strength and flexibility. • YogaSix : a full sensory yoga experience accessible to all, with a variety of classes targeting strength, agility, flexibility and balance. • StretchLab is a unique wellness concept offering assisted stretching sessions with customized flexibility services.

Here was my experience with them…

Cost: $30 (two complimentary fitness classes are included with Princess Plus and unlimited fitness classes are included with Princess Premier) Class Length: 30 Minutes Times Offered: Specific times will vary depending on ship and itinerary, but classes generally take place between 7-10am and 5-7pm. On my 5-day sailing on the Discovery Princess, there were 6 Pure Barre classes offered (either 1 or 2 classes each day).

Class Description : This workout, synchronized to music, combined elements of ballet, yoga, and pilates. It was low impact, but high intensity and targeted all the major muscle groups in a short period of time. We used a mat to work glutes and core, 2 lb weights to target arms, and a barre (think ballet, not adult beverages) to work legs. We were also provided with round resistance bands for stretching. Movements were small and repetitive and resulted in some serious burning. There were no breaks between exercises, with continuous movement for the full 30 minutes.

What I loved about Xponential Fitness’s Pure Barre class on Princess : This was a very efficient way to get a decent low resistance, full-body workout. The time went by fast (always a plus when it comes to exercise) and I enjoyed the music and instruction. The movements were easy to follow and the instructor made sure everyone’s alignment was correct, making adjustments when necessary.

What I didn’t love about Xponential Fitness’s Pure Barre class on Princess : The 2 lb weights provided were too light for me and I felt like the arm section wasn’t effective. A variety of different weight options would have been appreciated. I also thought 30 minutes was a bit too short, especially for the cost. Most non-cruise ship Pure Barre classes are 50 minutes.

Would I take a Pure Barre class again? Yes! In fact I did. I enjoyed this class so much, I signed up for a second session later in my cruise. I also wanted to see if the same series of movements was repeated (they were) or if each session was different. I would recommend this class if you’re looking for a quick, but effective workout, so you can spend more of your cruise doing what you’re supposed to be doing: eating and drinking and relaxing. However, I didn’t consider this class a very good value at the à la carte price. Most other cruise ship fitness classes are 45 minutes and closer to $20. That said, many guests on Princess will receive fitness classes as part of their cruise package (2 free classes are included with Princess Plus and unlimited classes with Princess Premier).

Thumbs up or down? Thumbs… up!

Cost: $30 (two complimentary fitness classes are included with Princess Plus and unlimited fitness classes are included with Princess Premier) Class Length: 30 Minutes Times Offered: Specific times will vary depending on ship and itinerary, but fitness classes generally take place between 7-10am and 5-7pm. On my 5-day sailing on the Discovery Princess, there were 4 YogaSix classes offered and they all took place from 9-9:30am.

Class Description : This 30 minute full-body Vinyasa yoga practice set to calming music featured popular flow sequences and poses. Participants included both newbies and experienced yogis. A mat and block were provided and the instructor offered breathing cues and pose adjustments.

What I loved about Xponential Fitness’s YogaSix class on Princess : It was yoga. And I love yoga (I don’t consider it exercise)!

What I didn’t love about Xponential Fitness’s YogaSix class on Princess : This was a short, basic yoga class and while I enjoyed it, it wasn’t comparable to what I’ve experienced in land-based classes taught by experienced yogis. Plus, most non-cruise ship yoga classes are 45-60 minutes. One other thing to note: balancing on a cruise ship, especially on rough sea days, ranges from challenging to near impossible. I looked like Bambie on ice. Only full-grown, not adorable, and possibly drunk.

Would I take a YogaSix class again? I would. Although less enthusiastically than the barre class, only because I do yoga on land and it’s so much better by comparison. I would recommend this class as a gentle introduction to yoga for newbies and a “better than nothing” experience for more advanced yogis. Like with the barre class, I didn’t consider YogaSix a very good value at the à la carte price. However, many guests on Princess will receive fitness classes as part of their cruise package (2 free classes are included with Princess Plus and unlimited classes with Princess Premier).

Thumbs up or down? Thumbs…up (but without the boldface and exclamation mark).

Cost: $30 (two complimentary fitness classes are included with Princess Plus and unlimited fitness classes are included with Princess Premier) Class Length: 25 Minutes Times Offered: There will be a sign-up sheet with 25 minute blocks. Sign up on the first day of your cruise as slots are likely to fill up.

Class Description : Unlike the other fitness classes, StretchLab is a one-on-one session with a trainer who will provide a customized stretch routine based on your individual needs. A massage table, stretch straps, and foam rollers were provided.

What I loved about Xponential Fitness’s StretchLab class on Princess : This private stretch session was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced on a cruise ship, which was the thing I loved most about it. It also left me feeling great, with some new stretching techniques to use at home.

What I didn’t love about Xponential Fitness’s StretchLab class on Princess : 25 minutes was too short. Five hours would have been more appropriate (it felt so good…more like a spa treatment than a fitness class).

Would I take a StretchLab class again? Yes! This was my favorite of the new Princess Xponential fitness classes and felt like the best value ($30 for a private session).

Final Thoughts

If you’re interested in trying one of the new classes, be sure to stop by the fitness center on embarkation day to see the schedule and sign up. You MUST sign up in person for every class and some classes WILL fill up, so do it early. While I don’t feel comfortable enthusiastically endorsing any form of exercise, I appreciate the new offerings by Princess and look forward (I guess) to trying the others coming soon (ahead of the summer season – exact dates haven’t been released yet):

• Club Pilates : a low-impact, full-body Reformer Pilates workout with a variety of classes that build strength, mobility and stability. • CycleBar : an inclusive, immersive and inspiring low-impact, high-intensity indoor cycling experience for all ages and body types. • STRIDE Fitness : a treadmill-based interval training concept, delivering a total body cardio and strength workout.

If you’re going on a Princess cruise, here are some cruise tips you should know before you cruise. 

The reality is, that although you can read a lot of general cruise tips , every cruise line is unique and has different amenities and offerings.

Things to know about cruising with Princess (that are pretty amazing)

We’ve cruised on Princess several times, and cruise on other lines as well. However, there are some things we genuinely love about our Princess Cruises.

Princess is a really good cruise line that seems to have something for everyone. We’ve done a few family cruises, couples only cruises, and even one large family cruise – I highly recommend Princess for multi-generational travel .

Firstly, some cruise advice that will pretty much guarantee that you’ll find out all the important stuff

1. Read your Princess Patter (daily planner) or check the daily schedule and activity guide on your Ocean Medallion or Princess Cruises App . The various activities, restaurants and specialty food venues will all be written in the planner. Check the back as well, as sometime the info is there.

2. Just Ask.  When you aren’t sure, just ask your fellow cruise passengers or the staff on board. They’ll be happy to share their knowledge and steer you in the right direction.

3. Go to the first time cruisers information sessions. On many cruise ships, there will be Ocean Medallion and even cruise port talks. These information sessions can be super helpful in answering questions you didn’t even know you had. When are they? Check your Princess Patter 😉

Princess First-time Cruiser Tips

Before we begin, I will let you know – you may want to grab a pen and paper, print out, or better yet, save on your favorite Pinterest board for later :-). If you find this helpful, please share.

1. Princess Cruise Cabins

While Princess cabins aren’t the largest we’ve ever seen, they have something we just love! Princess Cruises staterooms have amazing large open closets. From inside cabins to balcony staterooms, the cruise cabins have a sort of separator wall between the sleeping area and closet and washroom area.

While these cabins don’t have large sofa chairs or couches in them, for this you’ll need to move up to a mini-suite, this large open space as you enter your cabin is really practical.

There are even a couple of full size mirrors. In our family, it served as a bit of “private” dressing area, right outside the washroom.

Whether you’re an over-packer like me or not, this extra large hanging space, along with a few shelves. Even though I still love some good cruise cabin hacks , this just makes it easier on everyone.

2. Princess Cruises Dining Options

Princess has some of the best dining options at sea. There’s literally so much available and included .

Recently, I saw a fun Facebook thread, asking Princess Cruisers to name their first-time cruiser lessons or mistakes. One common first cruise “mistake” was how many people didn’t realize that most of the food on-board the ship was actually included.

We had friends who cruised several years ago, and they recounted the story and lesson from their first cruise. It seemed that they ate each breakfast, lunch and dinner in the buffet. There’s nothing wrong with eating in the buffet, but it wasn’t until the last night of their cruise, that they realized that dinner in the dining room was actually included!

Here is a list of Princess restaurants and food venues that are included (no extra fees)

• Main Dining Room (Traditional and Anytime Dining)
• International Cafe – This is literally open almost all the time and offers breakfast, lunch (even salads), snack and dessert options
• Poolside Grill – Outdoors near the pool there is a grill with burgers, hot dogs, chicken burgers, french fries and more (fries at 4 pm are too good!)
• Poolside Pizza – Princess has some of the best pizza at sea (possibly THE best)
• Horizon Court Buffet – the buffet has quite a lot available from morning to night
• Alfredo’s Pizzeria – while not available on every ship, Alfredo’s is a casual sit down Italian venue open for lunch and dinner and there’s no extra charge.

If you’re cruising on Regal or Royal Princess (or another ship with an Alfredo’s restaurant), consider having your lunch here on embarkation day , while your fellow cruisers still don’t realize it’s included. The buffet will be busy that first day, so avoid it if you can.

I put together this review with pictures and the menus , so you could get an idea of what to expect.

On top of this there’s ice cream and popcorn on the pool deck. My best for any ship, is to explore as much as possible, and discover all it has to offer.

3.What food isn’t included?

Specialty restaurants such as Sabatini’s, Crown Grill and Crab Shack have an additional charge. If you’d like to have a more intimate or special meal, you may really enjoy this.

Other food items that aren’t included are the gelato shops in the Piazza (Princess Atrium) and a few odd items like chocolate covered strawberries. There is a fairly small charge if you enjoy them.

4. Are drinks and coffee included?

With cruise lines promoting beverage packages, it can be hard to know what drinks are included, and which are not.

There are additional charges for alcoholic drinks, soda or pop, water bottles and some juices. There’s also an extra charge for specialty coffee and tea.

While “regular” coffee and tea is available in the buffet and in the Main Dining Room, freshly brewed coffee, specialty coffee and premium teas are additional. 

Consider purchasing a coffee package at International Cafe, which is an excellent value.

Alcohol and non-alcohol/soda packages can also be purchased as well.

Tip: You can bring a bottle of wine per adult in the cabin. A corkage fee of $15 may be applied if you drink it in a public area.

5. Bonus for Foodies: Princess Fan Favorite Foods

There are some foods that frequent Princess cruisers just love – they are really kind of fan favorites. So, if you’re cruising with Princess for the first time, and you love cruise food, you might want to know this.

Poolside pizza – It’s really good, and was even voted best at Sea by USA today. More importantly, regular cruisers rave about it, so give it a try.

Fettuccine  Alfredo – In my opinion, this dish which is served in the main dining room as a full meal or appetizer, was actually much better when it was served in a parmesan cheese bowl, but it’s still really good and definitely a favorite.

Nutella Donuts – Look out for these in the International Cafe, as they are not available every day. They are so good they’re almost sinful.

Chocolate Journey’s desserts – Most chocolate desserts on Princess are really good. If you see one of these on the dessert menu in the dining room or at the International Cafe, they are worth the calories.

Princess Cruises Love Boat Dream – While this isn’t my personal favorite, it’s certainly popular and perhaps the most romantic dessert on the menu. Shaped in a heart and made of chocolate cake and chocolate mousse, it’s worth a try.

6. Princess Love Boat Nostalgia

If you’re on a Princess Cruise, there’s going to be some Love Boat nostalgia. From the cruise ship horn playing the Love Boat Theme Song (on some ships), to the Love Boat Disco Deck Party – it’s all in good fun!

You can even find Love Boat reruns on your cruise cabin TV.

7. Hooray for Room Service!

When we first started cruising, most cruise lines offered free room service. But, over the years we’ve seen that change. We love that Princess continues to offer a pretty decent room service menu!

Whether you order a light breakfast to have in your cabin before an early shore excursion, or a late night snack, just know that this is included with your cruise fare.

8. Princess Cruises Discounts and on board credit benefits

There are all sorts of discounts you should check for, if you’re booking a Princess Cruise.

From Military benefits,  Past Passenger discounts, and additional on board credits for *referring your friends (did you know about this one?) , these are things you should ask about when booking a Princess Cruise.

These additional onboard credits can be substantial – if you are a veteran or in the military, please inquire about the military benefit when booking with your travel agent or Princess directly.

To use the Refer Your Friends program, you must register your friend as a referral online. You will both get an additional on board credit, even if you aren’t cruising together. Check Princess Cruises website for details and current information.

9. Princess Cruises OceanMedallion Ships

Over the last year or so, you’ve probably heard a lot about Ocean Medallion cruises.

Basically, the Medallion device replaces the cruise card, and quite a bit more. Although not yet available on every cruise ship, Princess has said that 15 of its cruise ships will be OceanMedallion ready by the end of 2020.

If you have a smart phone, there’s a lot that you can do on your device. However, you don’t need to have a smart phone to use this, and it’s “free”. There is no additional charge.

10. Princess Cruises MedallionNet – Internet and Wifi

Could it be that the days of expensive and sluggish internet on a cruise ship are slowly becoming a thing of the past?

After cruising on the Regal Princess last Christmas and New Year’s and paying less than $10 a day for unlimited internet – it has really spoiled us!

MedallionNet is available on all OceanMedallion cruise ships. The updated technology has allowed for fast internet, that works well even in your cabin.

However, this isn’t available on all Princess Cruise Ships yet. Check to see if your ship has this, and otherwise what internet packages you can buy, if you need this.

Remember that you don’t need to buy any internet package to use the Medallion or it’s features. You only need to purchase MedallionNet if you want to use the internet.

11. Future Cruise Deposits and Booking On-board

If you’re cruising for the first time, or even if you’ve cruised a few times, you may not be aware of the advantages of booking your “next” cruise on board.

Most cruise lines offer an on-board booking incentive program, and generally they are advantageous. Princess Cruises has a really good one, which I believe is very worth it.

How does booking on-board work?

I often recommend to people, that if they have enjoyed their cruise, they should put down a deposit for a future cruise. Not only is the deposit reduced, but it will give you additional on-board credits on a future cruise, just for booking on-board.

That’s free money – and who doesn’t love this?!?

If you’ve booked with a travel agent, the future cruise reservation agent will send the booking to him or her, if you wish. You can even go home and transfer it to an agent, which may get you even more perks back home. There are some conditions , so please check before you book.

12. Princess Cruises Loyalty Program

One thing you’ll notice on a Princess Cruise, is the amount of repeat cruisers there are.

Why? Well, overall they offer a really good cruise experience and people want to cruise again.

However, they also have a really good loyalty program, called Captain’s Circle. They offer past passenger discounts, free internet minutes, a small discount in stores, and even at a certain loyalty level, free laundry, and more!

Seriously, they had me at free laundry. Ladies, am I right? 😉

13. Some Special Princess Cruise Ship Experiences that we Love!

I feel like I talk about food a lot, but Princess has some really great casual food and special experiences that are worth doing, and many cruisers just don’t know about it (and I want to make sure you do!)

Some “free” foodie experiences that you may enjoy include:

The British Pub Lunch

This is served on sea days often in the Wheelhouse Bar or Crown Grill. There is no extra charge for it.

They serve fish and chips, prawns, bangers and mash, and more. We think it’s fabulous and love it!

Tip: It gets busy and it’s quite popular, so go early.

Afternoon Tea

There are actually 2 afternoon teas served. One is served in the main dining room and there is no extra charge. The other is has a small charge and is served in a more intimate setting.

We did the afternoon tea, in the MDR for the first time while on our last Princess Cruise. We had some little cucumber sandwiches and some scones, cream and jam – it was soooo good!

14. Princess Cruises Shore Excursions Tips

I’m by no means suggesting that you book every shore excursion with Princess, or even that you need an excursion in every cruise port. However, there are times when it’s a good idea to book an excursion .

I’ve found a really good advantage, which many cruisers just don’t know about.

It’s the Best Price Shore Excursion Guarantee . Basically, the way this works is that if you find a very similar shore excursion online with another vendor, Princess will not only match the price, but give you a 10% difference in extra on-board credit.

15. Princess Cruises Glossary and Cruise Lingo Acronyms

First time cruisers will learn quickly that cruisers have a language all their own. You’ll hear frequent cruisers speak in cruise jargon and acronyms all the time.

These are just a few:

MDR – main dining room

IC – International Cafe

FCC – Future Cruise Credit

OBC – On board credit

TA – Travel Agent

B2B/B2B2B – 2 and 3 and more cruises all in a row

Will be “hopefully” leaving for a princess cruise up the coast of N.E./ Can. 7 days. I’ve always wanted to go on a cruise & now I can. We are traveling on the newest Ship. Enchanted Princess. Your videos/blog, besides being filled with information have me really excited for this trip. I’d like to see if there are any videos or the suites, other than the Sky suite (i.e. the Owner’s suite)and that class of suites. Also can you tell me what changes are to be expected due to Covid 19. For example will I need to mask in the MDR? What about at the pool? Etc.

What a great cruise and cruise ship! I’m so glad my videos & blog posts are helpful as you plan for your cruise.

For changes and policies, a lot will change and be updated before you sail. However right now you don’t need to wear a mask when eating, drinking or in a pool and outdoors in most cases. Let’s keep looking at the info from Princess and we’ll know more as it gets closer 🙂

I’m new to cruising and your content has been so helpful in figuring out my first cruise coming up at the end of March on Discovery Princess! I see Discovery Princess has Gigi’s Pizza instead of Alfredo’s. Is it the same? Similar? I don’t want to miss out on the Best Pizza at Sea!

Likely an excluded cruise.

Usually offers like this are applied to standard balcony or below.

No, I just looked at the cruise I currently have booked and checked the price different.  We did not take the plus, just the bargain basement cruise fair price.

I got the email this morning also.  I clicked on the link of cruises and it doesn't show any price difference.  Are we supposed to call Princess for these bookings?

I have not received an email.

But one of the cruises I booked this morning the rate was discounted 25% when I clicked to the last page. ($598 listed fare; $448 on that page). This was Princess Plus.

But another cruise showed no price change. (AK)

I did another dummy booking on a random Nov Caribbean cruise & again I got a discounted fare on the last page (also Princess Plus)

Thanks to all of you good folks here for explaining the math to me.  I went, as suggested, and did a mock booking for my original cabin with the plus and Princess' numbers were correct. And then, for poops and giggles, did one for a mini with plus. Only $170 difference per person. I got on chat and 10 minutes later had my new cabin. Thanks everyone for being kind enough to share your ideas.

Existing, seriously, it was so easy. I did take screen shots of my two mock bookings so I knew if was getting what I expected as far as price goes.

OK, so went ahead and walked through the booking for Alaska on the Discovery, August 7.  Looked at the cost, then logged in and the numbers went down, but not 25%, about 23%.  I contacted via chat Princess and they said that the discount was applied to my account so I am seeing the final price, not sure why their 25% is slightly different than my 25%, but we are talking about $30 between both of us.  I put it on hold for a day, just to chew on it for a few minutes.  the actual cruise before port fees and insurance was $1008 per person.

Honestly, $2500 for a balcony cabin and Princess Plus (also port fees, which are crazy in Alaska and insurance) to Alaska is a really good deal. Since we live 40 minutes from the dock, there is no air, no transfers, no hotels, just the cruise cost.  OK, Princess's roll out of this promotion was bad and communication almost non existent.  I hope they work on this and also consider that making this offer to teachers in May is OK, but making it in January for the year would be fantastic.

Pretty good deal and I will survive the clunky customer service

I just did it.  We already had a 5 day cruise booked for November 2022.  I contacted my PVP and had her cancel the original and rebook it.   We saved $238 total ($119pp).

I am hoping to convince my boyfriend to book the 4 day right after.  Never done a back to back.

Interesting. I asked Princess chat earlier today if I could get my discount applied to my current booking (even just as non-refundable OBC rather than a true refund) and was denied. I guess my cruise isn't one of the select options.

It's still not showing up for me, and I still haven't gotten the email, but can anyone who does have it or is able to look at it see if the grand princess's Alaska northbound sailing on July 6th is part of it? I currently have it booked but if I can get 25% off of it I'll definitely cancel and rebook

I just got off from talking to someone at Princess, and then they just told me that the promotion is only valid for the first cruise you book, and is not valid if you already have a cruise booked for this year.......... What the heck

Is this discount only for the actual teacher, or is it for the stateroom?

I supposed Christmas/New Years is all blacked out--like--you know--when the teachers aren't actually teaching?
