He is notified about a coded message, and breaks into a satellite facility to fully receive it. With the help from his stepfather Hank (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) he decodes the message leading him to find the map that leads him to Verne's mysterious island. Along with Gabato and Kailani, Sean embarks on a mission to find his grandfather, the legendary Vernian Alexander. There’s nothing about this family-friendly movie that’s outrageously offensive, but there’s nothing about it that’s particularly interesting, well-executed, or inventively conceived either.

A screenplay that never quite clicks on all cylinders. There are too many scenes dealing with relationships that really halt any momentum.

Journey 2 is simply magical.

Undeniably an exhilarating family friendly, action adventure that'll no doubt thrill younger audiences.

Like its predecessor, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is a race against time to survive, but the inclusion of new characters adds a little more interest.

For a family, this is an agreeable Saturday outing, largely because director Brad Peyton doesn't set his sight higher than the material actually is.

"Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" is light, airy family entertainment that actually ends up being too light and airy.

It's a harmless, lighthearted film with wooden acting, a nice message about accepting your parents-whoever they are-and again, lots of ridiculous CGI.

A bland, blurry CGI mess of a movie that leaves a lot to be desired. The original Fraser-led film was an enjoyable adventure fare that could entertain on a dull afternoon, but this movie feels unwatchable, with a cast playing to type and not showing their best, but would thankfully get plenty of opportunities to prove themselves

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (also known as Journey to the Mysterious Island ) is a 2012 American 3D science fiction adventure film directed by Brad Peyton and the sequel to the 2008 film Journey to the Center of the Earth . Following the first film, the sequel is based on another Jules Verne novel, this time The Mysterious Island , similar to the first movie and second film in the Journey series . The film was released on February 10, 2012 in Digital 3D and IMAX 3D. The film was released with a Looney Tunes short called Daffy's Rhapsody with Daffy Duck and Elmer Fudd .

The film stars Dwayne Johnson , Michael Caine , Josh Hutcherson , Vanessa Hudgens , Luis Guzmán , and Kristin Davis . The story was written by Richard Outten , Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn, and the screenplay by Brian and Mark Gunn.
