Even before COVID19, we at TravelNewsAsia.com were cutting down on shows, selecting just a few where it is possible to meet sellers who would not normally be easy to reach as they do not have large enough budgets to attend and exhibit at major travel trade shows.

That is precisely what organisers need to remember. It is easy to pack a trade show with conferences and other reasons to attend etc., but what many buyers really want is to experience a new destination, meet sellers who they would not normally see, do site inspections, new learn things about the host destination and to expand their business horizons.

That is why we are very big fans of shows that rotate the host city/country such as the ASEAN Tourism Forum, TTM+ and others. Though even they sometimes miss the point. For example, we have encouraged the Tourism Authority of Thailand for many years to host TTM+ in a tertiary city such as Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani or Roi-Et, so that travel buyers and media can experience the beauty of Isaan firsthand rather than just hearing how great it is.

The Cambodia Travel Market in 2019 was brilliant for exactly the reason outlined above, buyers could sit down with people from parts of the country they knew nothing about. We are hoping that Cambodia will once again establish a travel mart as the country has such massive tourism potential.

We would also love to see Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia develop and better promote an official annual travel trade show for international buyers and media that rotates meaningfully between their cities with the most future tourism potential and not just the cities so many travel buyers have visited already a dozen or more times.

The calendar of events on this page is constantly being updated as more shows confirm live events. Please note that we do not list virtual trade shows.

Some travel trade shows do host buyers - covering airfares and hotel etc., so it is always worth asking whether that is an option and how to apply.

For Asia, the ASEAN Tourism Forum , or ATF as it is more commonly known, has long been an excellent show to attend, especially as it rotates between ASEAN countries every year, allowing you to experience the destinations you are selling. The beautiful country of Laos hosted the ATF 2024 in Vientiane and did an excellent job with buyers, sellers and media all very happy. The State of Johor, Malaysia has been chosen to host the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2025. See 9 Exclusive Video Interviews with VIPs at the ASEAN Tourism Forum in Vientiane, Laos and 8 NTO Press Conferences from the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024 in Vientiane, Laos .

The Thailand Travel Mart Plus (TTM+) has improved enormously over the years but Travel News Asia has not attended since 2019 due to other commitments. In 2019, TTM+ was held at the Ocean Marina Yacht Club in Jomtien, Pattaya, but was not held in 2020, 2021, though they did manage to host TTM+ 2022 in Phuket. In 2023 the event took place at QSNCC in Bangkok from 31 May to 2 June and in 2024 will be in Khao Lak. In 2024, TTM+ will take place 5-7 June at the JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort and Spa . See: Thailand Travel Mart (TTM+) 2020 - Exclusive Interview with Chiravadee Khunsub of TAT and HD Videos from Thailand Travel Mart Plus (TTM+) 2019 .

The Kingdom of Cambodia has HUGE tourism potential. It has some amazing beaches, mountains, jungle and plenty of architectural wonders - such as Angkor Wat and others. Having said that, if the Cambodia Travel Mart is ever relaunched - the last was in 2019 - it needs to focus more on the B2B market and get more support from the large international hotel chains and regional tourism bodies. It is very important that this event succeeds, as it is far better for overseas buyers and media to visit Cambodia to attend CTM, than for sellers to travel to an event overseas and compete for their attention against all the other destinations. Cheaper too. Should you attend? Definitely, you will meet sellers that you would never normally meet, and get to experience the country at the same time. HD Videos from Cambodia Travel Mart 2019 .

Travel News Asia has not attended a Routes event that has failed to impress us. They attract key stakeholders and VIPs and are of just the right size that makes meeting the right people possible. Routes World 2023 was held in Istanbul, Türkiye. Issues with transport aside, the expo component of this event was excellent. The exhibition floor was spacious and not too loud, with many very creative stands, and a seemingly never ending supply of F&B available. Routes World 2024 will take place in Bahrain and then in Hong Kong in 2025 . The event is very highly respected and attracts senior decision makers from airports around the world, their respective tourism bodies and airlines to discuss and plan airline route development. Travel News Asia conducted 15 exclusive video interviews during our time in Istanbul, they are all available in both HD video and audio podcast formats here: Exclusive Videos from Routes World 2023 in Istanbul, Türkiye .

Routes Asia 2024 took place on the beautiful island of Langkawi, Malaysia in February, Routes Americas 2024 was in Bogota, Colombia in March, and Routes Europe 2024 was in the beautiful city of Aarhus in Denmark in April. Travel News Asia did not attend the event in Bogota , sadly, but was present in Langkawi and Aarhus. Both events were excellently organised and delegates were very happy with the number and quality of meetings that they had at each. Routes Asia 2025 will be held in Perth, Australia , whilst Routes Americas 2025 will be in Bahamas . See : 16 HD Video Interviews from Routes Europe 2024 in Aarhus, Denmark and 9 HD Video Interviews from Routes Asia 2024 in Langkawi, Malaysia . If you are interested in air connectivity, route development and airports then you really should attend the Routes event, or events, which interest you the most.

APG World Connect rotates annually between Monaco and Malta and is without doubt one of the most exclusive and glamorous conferences in the airline industry. APG limits the number of attendees and treats each person like royalty. Held in Monaco from 1-3 November 2023, delegates were treated to a 7-minute flight between Nice Airport and Monaco by 6-seat Airbus H130 helicopters operated by Blade . Once in Monaco, those attending - CEOs, SVPs, VPs of airlines and related stakeholders as well as APG offices from around the world - enjoyed some very interesting conference sessions and were thoroughly spoiled throughout their entire stay with delicious 5-star French cuisine, sparkling Taittinger Champagne and delightful Lampe de Meduse Cotes de Provence wines, amongst many other delectable treats. APG World Connect 2024 will take place 23-25 October at the Westin Dragonara Resort in Malta, whilst the company will also hold its annual AGM in Kuala Lumpur and its Asia Pacific regional training conference in Melaka, Malaysia in 2024.

In 2008, Messe Berlin, organisers of the mammoth ITB Berlin, together with the Singapore Tourism Board, put their full weight behind the inaugural ITB Asia . Over the years, it has grown and grown, and continued to grow - at least the events around ITB Asia have. While all this expansion may seem like a good thing, in our eyes - as a media outlet - there is too much going on, with conferences and seminars covering every imaginable topic taking place at the same time. Travel News Asia no longer attends ITB Asia, as we prefer to attend more focused shows such as TTM+ and ATF that are smaller and rotate annually between host cities/countries.

Another important travel trade show in the region is Tourism Expo Japan , formerly known as JATA Tourism Expo. This trade show has the ambitious aim of becoming the biggest in Asia and with Japan being such an important outbound market, even with a weak global economy, then this will always be one of the most important events on a calendar year. Traditionally JATA and the World Travel Fair, also in Tokyo, rotated annually. Now they have combined, and a few years ago they set up an inbound component to the show. This was very big news, as JATA had always been about the important, and lucrative, outbound market, and, had pretty much ignored the inbound. The Tourism Expo Japan takes place annually in September, and is a show you should attend. There are many delegates not just from Japan but also, Asia Pacific and around the world.

The Mekong Tourism Forum used to rotate annually between countries in the GMS, so from that perspective it was very interesting to see different cities and get updates about the local tourism industry in that area. The event had potential, but never really managed to get the following it needed. It was not really a travel trade show as there were no buyers meet seller appointments, a pity. Nor were there any real exhibitors - again a pity, as it would have been interesting to see and meet with small hotels and tour operators in the host city. The MTF was more of a conference to promote sustainable tourism. Hopefully a more meaningful, better organised and well thought out MTF will be created in the future, but until then go to the ASEAN Tourism Forum instead.

The ITB and WTM , held each year in Berlin and London respectively, are two of the oldest and still the biggest travel trade shows in the world. We used to attend both religiously for many, many years, but now, of the two, only attend the WTM in London. Make sure you book flights and accommodation well in advance as both Berlin and London get very busy.

The EIBTM and IMEX are without a doubt the best MICE shows in the world, although AIME in Australia is also a good event aimed at the MICE market.

The Arabian Travel Market is an excellent show if you are interested in selling the Middle East or attracting customers from the wealthy Middle Eastern markets. To make the most of this show try and do sales trips either after or before the show to some surrounding areas such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain etc.

For luxury, the ILTM series which started in Cannes but has grown in recent years to include Japan and China, among others, is one of the best.

To add your trade show to the calendar of events above costs just US$199 per show, per year, and includes a direct link which opens in a new tab / window. Send us an email to add your show.

16 Best Places to Travel in September 2024

Here are the best places to travel in September in the United States and around the world.

travel fair september 2023

Telluride, Colorado

Greenville, south carolina, grand rapids, michigan, raleigh, north carolina, healdsburg, california, sedona, arizona, buffalo, new york, corpus christi, texas, santorini, greece, cape breton, canada, rome, italy, bali, indonesia, panama city, panama.

Ready to plan a last-minute summer getaway or an early fall vacation? We've got you covered. We selected 16 of the best places to travel in September, based on my personal favorites and some local insights. September is the start of a broader “shoulder season,” when school has begun and therefore most vacations have ended. Fewer crowds (and lower prices) make this a great time to travel to European destinations like Norway, Greece, and Italy, while exciting festivals and events offer plenty to do closer to home in North Carolina and Colorado.

This vibrant mountain town , known as the “Festival Capital of the Rockies,” is true to its nickname in September. The Telluride Film Festival , an annual Labor Day Weekend event, features four days of cinematic immersion from Aug. 29-Sept. 2. The Blues & Brews Festival arrives Sept. 13-15 with a multi-stage celebration of craft beer and music that includes blues, funk, indie, rock, jam-band, gospel, and soul. From Sept. 26-28, the Telluride Autumn Classic celebrates motorcycles, aircraft, exotic vehicles, live music, and an exciting art scene. Regional vice president at Madeline Hotel & Residences , Bryan Woody, says, “September temperatures are idyllic, fishing is at its peak, rock climbing and the via ferrata are incredible against the early fall colors which peak at month end.” Famed as a winter sports destination, Telluride is just as gorgeous when autumn arrives.

Where to Stay: Madeline Hotel & Residences will host a pairing dinner to kick off the Blues & Brews Festival. Nocturne Luxury Villas offers plush rental homes for groups.

“The transition from summer to fall harvest starts in September, and most of the farmers markets in and around Greenville run through the end of the month, so you can find lots of locally sourced fruits and vegetables in season. More than 200 restaurants in downtown Greenville alone feature cuisine from all over the world, and from some of the most talented chefs across the Southeast,” according to Morgan Allen, executive director of Euphoria , an annual event set for Sept. 19-22. The award-winning food, wine, and music festival celebrates Greenville’s thriving culinary arts scene. “With 65 events over four days ranging from classrooms, lunch and learns, and wine seminars to musical performances, signature tasting events, and guest chef dinners, there’s something for everyone,” Allen says.

Where to Stay: The Grand Bohemian Lodge is located in Falls Park where there’s a waterfall and walking trails. The Westin Poinsett features the WestinWorkout Fitness Studio and Heavenly Bed. Hyatt Regency Greenville ’s Roost restaurant serves Southern-inspired cuisine.

Mike Kline/Getty Images

Located along the Grand River about 25 miles east of Lake Michigan, Grand Rapids is home to ArtPrize , an annual 16-day international art festival and competition from Sept. 13-28. “ArtPrize is an incredible celebration of creativity, uniting artists and art enthusiasts from all corners of the globe in Grand Rapids. It’s more than just an art competition; it’s an iconic event that energizes the entire city,” according to ArtPrize executive director, Catlin Whitington. “From sculptures to intricate paintings, every street corner and venue becomes a stage for artistic expression.” Grand Rapids offers a walkable downtown, with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, downtown market , and Millennium Park, with a six-acre beach, boat rentals, and 18 miles of trails. Known as “Beer City,” Grand Rapids features the Beer City Ale Trail and an annual Oktoberfest (Sept.27-28) with live music, games, food, a keg toss, and the third annual Dachshund Dash.

Where to Stay: The Amway Grand Plaza offers views of the city skyline. JW Marriott Grand Rapids , in the heart of downtown, overlooks the Grand River.

Chansak Joe/Getty Images

North Carolina’s capital sees warm weather in the 80s, cooling as the month goes on. Several festivals make September a great time to visit, starting with the Labor Day Weekend African American Cultural Festival , a free family-friendly celebration of art, music, food, crafts, and community. The Hopscotch Music Festival , Sept. 5-7, features three days of music and late-night sets in downtown clubs. On Sept. 15, there’s La Fiesta del Pueblo , a festival of Latin American culture featuring live music, dance, food trucks, and family activities. The International Bluegrass Music Association brings their music to downtown Raleigh on Sept. 27-28, with five stages of free music, a dance tent, and more. Raleigh’s new mural trail and museums should be on a visitor’s itinerary. I visited the North Carolina Museum of Art last year, and was so impressed by the collection, activities, and Museum Park.

Where to Stay: The five-star Umstead Hotel and Spa is a spectacular property with an extensive art collection and signature restaurant, Herons . I’ve stayed at the Umstead twice, and had a memorable dinner at Herons. Not far away, another favorite is Fearrington Village , a charming inn with an excellent restaurant and adorable black-and-white cows and goats.

Adrian Rudd/Travel + Leisure

Located in Sonoma County about 70 miles north of San Francisco, Healdsburg is home to hotels, spas, restaurants, tasting rooms, and a charming walkable downtown. In September, temperatures in the 70s make strolling through town, browsing art galleries, boutiques, and farmers markets a pleasant way to spend the day. It’s grape picking season, a great time to visit local wineries for tours and a glimpse of the harvest activity. Ferrari-Carano and Jordan — among many other wineries — offer tastings and food pairings, and seeing the beautiful properties is part of the enjoyment. I’ve visited these wineries, and it’s always fun and educational to chat with winemakers or tasting room staff and then take home a bottle or two. However, you don’t have to be an oenophile to enjoy wine country; the scenery and atmosphere are captivating no matter what you’re sipping.

Where to Stay: The Ruse , Harmon Guest House , and Hotel Healdsburg are lovely options in town. Montage Healdsburg , set on 258 acres of rolling hills and vineyards, features its signature restaurant, Hazel Hill . My husband and I spent a few days at the Montage and loved the setting and view from our bungalow.

Ivey Redding/Travel + Leisure

Known for gorgeous red rock formations and vortexes, where the Earth’s energy is said to feel especially strong, Sedona is beautiful in September with temperatures in the high 70s, ideal for enjoying the outdoors. Hiking trails at all levels lead to stunning views and perhaps a vortex experience along with a healthy workout. In town, browse the many art galleries or shop for crystals, rocks, or handmade items. Swimming, fishing, kayaking, biking, or just enjoying the landscape are more things to do in Sedona . Wine has been produced in Sedona’s Verde Valley since the late 1800’s according to an exhibit at the Sedona Heritage Museum . That history is celebrated in the annual WineFest to be held Sept. 28-29, with tastings from Arizona wineries, entertainment, food trucks, and artisan vendors.

Where to Stay: The Wilde Resort and Spa is set in the heart of Sedona. L’Auberge De Sedona offers a luxurious spa. Sky Rock Sedona debuted an extensive property-wide transformation in March 2024.

DenisTangneyJr/Getty Images

“The City of Good Neighbors” celebrates its famous spicy wings over Labor Day Weekend with the National Buffalo Wing Festival featuring Sauce-Offs, the U.S. Wing Eating Championship, music, and plenty of wings for the expected 50,000 attendees. If you miss the event, you’ll find the best of local favorites along the Buffalo Wing Trail . Enjoy the revitalized waterfront with bike paths and marinas along Lake Erie or visit the Buffalo AKG Art Museum , reopened to acclaim in June 2023. Just 20 miles away, Niagara Falls is a must-see when you’re in Western New York. Also nearby, the three-day Borderland Festival (Sept. 13-15) features three stages with Americana, rock, country, folk, and bluegrass music.

Where to Stay: Buffalo offers a range of places to stay including the historic Richardson Hote l, the Mansion on Delaware Avenue , and the Curtiss Hotel .

Laro Pilartes/Getty Images

This coastal city in South Texas was recently named a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community , and Sept. 6-7 brings an event that combines art and music. "We invite visitors and residents to MusicWalk, a musical takeover of the Corpus Christi downtown monthly ArtWalk. This celebration brings the flavor, culture, and vibrance of Corpus Christi to life,” Emily Zertuche, interim music commissioner, says. “The festival features over 60 local musicians across multiple outdoor stages and local venues, dozens of food trucks, live mural paintings, a classic car show, pickleball courts, and over 100 local vendors and pop-up shops." Corpus Christi also boasts beaches, the Texas State Aquarium , the USS Lexington Museum , and the Art Museum of South Texas .

Where to Stay: Lively Beach is a secluded, resort-style condominium property. Emerald Beach is the only waterfront property downtown.

Michela Sieman/Travel + Leisure

I went to Scotland with close friends a few Septembers ago, and it was an all-time favorite trip. We played golf at St. Andrews and Gleneagles, stayed at a historic inn, once one of Scotland’s many castles, and drove through the gorgeous Highlands. We spent a few days in Edinburgh where we enjoyed a walking tour, one of many great things to do in Scotland . We loved our road trip, but another way to see the country is with Vacations By Rail , celebrating 20 years with 20 Must-experience Tours, including Edinburgh, the Highlands & Islands . Scotland’s rich literary tradition is celebrated at the Fife Arms in Braemar with the third annual Literary Festival from Sept. 20-22.

Where to Stay: The Fife Arms features a museum-worthy art collection in a 19th-century building. The Glasshouse Hotel in Edinburgh was converted from the 160-year-old Lady Glenorchy Church in 2003. I stayed at (and loved) The Balmoral in Edinburgh . My stay at Gleneagles was also a memorable part of my Scotland trip, with an exquisite dinner at Michelin-starred Andrew Fairlie .

Christopher Larson/Travel + Leisure

After the busy summer season, there’s still mild weather and plenty of daylight in Norway , making the early autumn shoulder season a perfect time to visit. “September marks the transition from summer to autumn in Norway, making it a pleasant time to experience the beauty of the Nordic landscape. Crisp and clear air enhances the vibrant autumn foliage, with stunning shades of orange and yellow throughout the forests and mountains, making the perfect driving or hiking backdrop. Sunny days and dark nights of autumn offer starry skies and colorful sunsets, adding to the visual splendor,” Torunn Tronsvang of Up Norway tells Travel + Leisure . “By late September, Norway’s famed northern lights start to peek through in the northern regions such as Tromsø and the Lofoten Islands. September is ideal for hiking, mountain biking, visiting museums and sculpture parks, and exploring from the comfort of a train ride.

Where to Stay: In Oslo, stay at Sommero , where the emphasis is on wellness. You could also tour Norway with Up Norway with a custom itinerary, or take a cruise with Holland America Line , Hurtigruten,  Norwegian Cruise Line , or Havila .

Daniel Gorostieta/Travel + Leisure

After the bustling summer season, visitor numbers will taper off in September, but the sea and the weather are still warm, and restaurants and hotels are open at least through the month. Known for gorgeous sunsets, Santorini has been called the most Instagrammable Greek Island, although every island boasts an abundance of photogenic places. Stunning resorts are also numerous, and T+L readers voted for several Santorini resorts in the 2023 World’s Best Awards. Whether you enjoy Santorini on land with a walking tour, from the Aegean with a sunset cruise, or in a restaurant sipping local wines, you’ll find many ways to appreciate Santorini in September.

Where to Stay: World’s Best Awards winner Andronis Luxury Suites features private infinity pools. Andronis Concept Wellness Resort offers 28 recently renovated suites and villas. World’s Best Awards winner Grace Hotel, Auberge Resorts Collection ’s guest rooms, suites, and villas come with heated plunge pools. The Santo Collection offers two new four-bedroom luxury villas.

Early fall weather in Nova Scotia is mild, with daytime temperatures in the 70s, paired with long daylight hours for hiking, biking, playing golf, and enjoying the finest lobsters and snow crab sustainably sourced from the cold coastal waters. “In September, Cape Breton Island reveals its true magic. It’s the perfect time to explore all Cape Breton has to offer, and come mid-month, the colors of fall begin to arrive,” Kendall Clancy, general manager of Cabot Cape Breton, tells T+L. “September’s clear weather also makes it a great time to whale watch, charter a boat, or rent a kayak to explore some of the most beautiful coastlines in North America.” Hike the Highlands Festival 2024 from Sept. 13-22 attracts hikers from across North America and Europe. In Halifax, the Atlantic International Film Festival takes place from Sept. 11-18.

Where to Stay: Cabot Cape Breton , set atop majestic cliffs overlooking the Gulf of St. Lawrence, features two acclaimed golf courses and a short par-3 course.

In September, Romans are returning from their August holidays, temperatures are cooling into the 70s, and summer’s tourists are starting to head home. Even if you’ve visited The Eternal City several times, there’s always something new to see — or a favorite place to return to. Those favorites might include one of Rome’s outdoor markets, the Trevi Fountain , or the Spanish Steps, a popular gathering place — just don’t plan to sit and relax there ( that is no longer permitted ). First-time visitors who want to see the Colosseum, the Sistine Chapel, or St. Peter’s Basilica should plan their itinerary and get front-of-the-line tickets to avoid long waits. After exploring the popular spots, it’s time to walk the cobblestone streets, do some people watching, sip an Aperol spritz in a busy piazza, or find the perfect gelato.

Where to Stay: Hotel de Russie is a T+L reader favorite. The Romeo Roma is set in a 16th-century palace, and Rome Cavalieri is on the city’s highest hilltop. Hotel Eden is a personal favorite, and I love the rooftop Il Giardino Ristorante.

Just as beautiful as you imagine, Bali is surrounded by beaches and covered in hillsides with terraced rice paddies. September ends the dry season as October brings more rain, but as in many places, there’s beauty to be found on rainy days, too. Many visitors head for Bali’s beaches , and others are fascinated by the temples and the culture. During my last trip to Bali, we visited beaches, temples, and markets with handmade crafts in Ubud; I had to keep reminding myself of the limited space in my carry-on bag.

Where to Stay: Umana Bali LXR Hotels & Resorts offers one, two, and three-bedroom villas. Four Seasons Resorts Bali at Sayan is located in the central highlands along the Ayung River. Hoshinoya Bali is in the serene Bali jungle, and Viceroy Bali is set in a secluded ridge above Bali’s Valley of the Kings.

The country’s capital and the place to see the Panama Canal, Panama City is a modern city with a historic center, Casco Viejo. Cobblestone streets, plazas, restaurants, churches, and historical buildings make up the UNESCO World Heritage site. At the Miraflores Visitor Center , visitors can watch ships pass through the canal from an observation deck, and an IMAX film tells about the history and operation of the canal. Amador Causeway , built from materials extracted during the digging of the canal, is a recreation area of restaurants, shops, clubs, and the Biomuseo. When you visit Panama , be sure to taste Geisha coffee, said to be some of the best in the world, as T+L writer Stacey Leasca learned during her visit .

Where to Stay: Hotel La Compañía is a restored heritage hotel, formerly a 17th-century Jesuit convent. The Santa Maria, a Luxury Collection Hotel & Golf Resort features a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course.  The Buenaventura Golf & Beach Resort Panama, Autograph Collection is set on Panama’s shoreline.

September is considered shoulder season in Iceland, after the popular summer and before the cold winter months. Daytime temperatures in the 50s and cooler nights will make jumping into Iceland’s hot springs especially appealing. From Sept. 26-Oct. 6, the Reykjavík International Film Festival brings a variety of motion pictures and events to the city. Many travelers head to Iceland hoping to see the northern lights. “Most people think the dark winter months are when you have the best odds of catching a glimpse of the northern lights, but September is actually the best month to view them, and 2024 is predicted to have the best aurora visibility in decades,” according to Lauren Bates, founder and CEO of Wild Terrains . Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast looking to hike a glacier or a wellness devotee content to soak in a hot spring, Iceland will satisfy.

Where to Stay: Hotel Rangá , in the secluded countryside of the south coast, features an on-site observatory and geothermal hot tubs. Wild Terrains offers two group trips in September, and CEO Bates comments, “The summer crowds have dissipated, but locals are still enjoying the warm-ish weather at multiple outdoor festivals like Reykjavik Jazz Fest .”

The History and Facts About US State Fairs

County and state fairs are the beating heart of the United States. Started in 1811 by a banker Elkanah Watson, most of these fairs had agricultural roots. They initially served as meeting points for farmers to promote, trade, or sell local commodities, and to display crafts and skills.

There are almost 3,300 county and state fairs in the US which generate jobs and income for the regions that host them. Most importantly, many of these fairs reinvest the revenue back into the community. While the agricultural aspect is still there today, it has taken a back seat to family-friendly cuisine, rides, and musical performances.

Is there a pastime more distinctly American than eating something fried on a stick, marveling at livestock, and taking a spin on a Ferris wheel?

American State Fairs are just a ton of fun. For the last 250 years, they have been an embodiment of the best things that each state has to offer. They are now eagerly anticipated summertime celebrations in the majority of the U.S. states, each offering a vast array of sights, sounds, aromas, and entertainment options ranging from high-flying midway thrills to traditional livestock and farm equipment shows.

What Is The Most Popular US State Fair?

It’s the State Fair of Texas. By attracting more than 2 million guests every year, it is one of the largest state fairs in the US by attendance. Since 1952, attendees have experienced auto showcases, agricultural expos, games, and fried food galore.

What Is The Only Multi-State Fair in The US?

The answer is The Big E. Once known as the Eastern States Exposition, the festival lasts 17 days and is held in states that make up New England: Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

Which US State Fair Is Big on History?

North Carolina State Fair’s Heritage Circle is home to historic buildings and blacksmith demonstrations that you can see in 11 days. At the Folk Festival which is hosted daily, you will find all sorts of competitions that celebrate North Carolina’s musical past.

Which US State Fair Can I Enter For Free?

Arizona State Fair offers free entrance on selected days for those who donate canned goods at the front gates. Since 1884, this month-long southwestern fair has evolved into an eclectic gathering, featuring things like psychic readings, tribute bands, monster trucks, and a spooky haunted mansion.

Which US State Fair is Best For Families?

The Wisconsin State Fair stands out as an excellent choice for family outings. In addition to a plethora of games and carnival rides, families can explore the Garden Walk or the Exploratory Park, a delightful garden equipped with kid-friendly activities, a playground, and a sandbox.

Ukraine-Russia latest: Ukraine now controls 1,000sq km of Russian territory, official says - as Putin responds to Kyiv's assaults

Parts of the Russian region of Belgorod are evacuated, as the local governor reports "Ukrainian activity". This follows local reports that Kyiv's forces entered the region yesterday. In the nearby Kursk region, Ukraine's invasion continues.

Russia has said it is carrying out a "counterterrorism operation" in its border regions with Ukraine.

In a clip shared by columnist for The Daily Beast, Julia Davis, a news presenter of Russia's state news channel says the Kremlin is ensuring the safety of its citizens from the "threat of sabotage and terrorist acts".

"Counterterrorism operations have been announced in three Russian regions: Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk," she says.

"The national antiterrorism committee underscored that Kyiv made an unprecedented attempt to destabilise the situation in a number of border regions.

"The government is implementing special measures to ensure the safety of its citizens from the threat of sabotage and terrorist acts."

Earlier, Vladimir Putin said that Ukraine's biggest attack on Russian territory since the start of the war was aimed at improving Kyiv's negotiating position ahead of possible peace talks and at slowing the advance of Russian forces.

Russia has to be "forced to make peace", Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said.

Speaking in his nightly address, the Ukrainian leader said that Kyiv's major cross-border assault into the western region of Kursk was a matter of security for Ukraine and that Kyiv had captured areas from where Russia had launched strikes.

"Russia must be forced to make peace if Putin wants to fight so badly," he said.

He said Ukraine's northeastern Sumy region, which lies across the border from Kursk region, had been attacked almost 2,100 times by Russian cross-border strikes since 1 June.

"Russia brought war to others, now it's coming home. Ukraine has always wanted only peace, and we will certainly ensure peace," he added.

Ukrainian troops have been taking down Russian flags in villages across the Kursk region.

The clips, which have been circulating on social media, come as Ukraine's top commander said Kyiv controlled around 1,000 square kilometres of the region.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said earlier a meeting of top-level officials had ordered the preparation of a "humanitarian plan" for the area.

Russia did have some advance warning that an attack was going to take place but they "didn't take it seriously", an expert at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) has told Sky News.

Senior associate fellow at the institute, Mark Galeotti, said it was currently a "very fast-moving and fluid situation".

"However you play it, this is something that Putin cannot ignore. It is the first invasion of the Russian territory since the Second World War," he said.

"And for someone who had been claiming that everything was going according to plan in Ukraine, it clearly puts a line to that."

Mr Galeotti added: "It seems Russia did have some advance warning that an attack was going to take place, but they thought it was going to be a short and minor raid.

"They clearly didn't take it seriously."

He said Ukraine was going to have "a variety of objectives" - military and political.

When it came to military objectives, Mr Galeotti said Ukraine "wanted to draw troops away from the other fronts".

And when it came to political objectives, the expert said "it was not just a chance to humiliate Putin" but "also a chance to convey to Europe and the US - whose support Ukraine relies on - that the war is not yet over".

The US has said it is deeply concerned by reports that Iran is planning to deliver hundreds of ballistic missiles to Russia.

State department deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel told reporters this afternoon that such a move would represent a dramatic escalation.

For context : On Friday, reports emerged that dozens of men in the Russian military were being trained in Iran to use the Fath 360 close-range ballistic missile system.

Two intelligence sources also told Reuters that they expected the imminent delivery of hundreds of the satellite-guided weapons to Russia.

Russian officials are believed to have signed a contract with Iranian officials last December in Tehran for the missiles.

Ukraine controls around 1,000 square kilometres of Russia's Kursk region, Kyiv's army chief Oleksandr Syrskyi has said in the last few moments.

This is the first time the Kursk region has been named by the Ukrainian commander.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy published a video excerpt of Mr Syrskyi's report on Telegram.

We have been reporting throughout the day of Ukraine's biggest attack on Russian territory since the start of the war.

Ukrainian forces rammed through the Russian border last Tuesday and swept across some western parts of Russia's Kursk region, a surprise attack that has laid bare the weakness of Russian border defences in the area.

Ukraine's State Security Service (SBU) has said that Russia is trying to falsely accuse Kyiv's military of war crimes.

In a statement on Telegram , the SBU said it had information showing Russia might stage crimes for which it would blame Ukraine.

"The Security Service of Ukraine notes the attempts of the special services of the Russian Federation to use the situation in the Kursk region to groundlessly accuse Ukrainian defenders of committing war crimes," the SBU said.

"To do this, the Russian side creates and spreads various fakes and information leaks that have nothing to do with reality."

For context : Earlier, Alexei Smirnov, acting governor of the Kursk region, was quoted by Russian state media as saying Ukrainian forces had used shells containing chemical weapons.

Mr Smirnov said Ukraine had taken control of 28 settlements in the Kursk region.

We have been reporting today on Vladimir Putin's response to the Ukrainian army's invasion of the Kursk region, which has caused more than 100,000 civilians to flee.

Russian forces are still scrambling to respond to the surprise Ukrainian attack after almost a week of fierce fighting, but Mr Putin insisted Moscow's army would prevail.

Speaking at a meeting with top security and defence officials, the Russian leader said the attack that began on 6 August appeared to reflect Kyiv's attempt to gain a better negotiating position in possible future talks to end the war.

He argued that Ukraine may have hoped to cause public unrest in Russia with the attack, adding that it has failed to achieve that goal, and claimed that the number of volunteers to join the Russian military had increased because of the assault.

Here are some of the scenes that have emerged today of Mr Putin's meeting with security officials and regional governors to discuss the situation...

Swiss foreign minister Ignazio Cassis has said he signed a joint declaration with his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani expressing "deep concern" over Russian aggression in Ukraine, but said Moscow should be present at the next peace summit.

Switzerland in mid-June hosted dozens of world leaders at a summit aimed at crafting a pathway towards peace in Ukraine, although Russia was not invited.

Now, Mr Cassis has said on X: "We support holding a second peace summit that includes all parties, including Russia."
